DeRon Talley knows a thing or two about being thrown significant curve balls in life. After college graduation, he had his plans in place and was ready to make his mark on the world. Yet through a series of curve balls and some unwise decisions, DeRon found himself at a literal crossroad and would have to decide if he would lay down his pride in order to walk upon the path of light and love. Come join us for this truly amazing story of how to trust God even when you can't trace Him in the moment. Below are some of our favorite takeaways from today's show: ️ What we view as a curve ball in our plans can actually be God's way of moving us in a new direction. ️ Worshipping God in an unfamiliar place helps us to know that God is still with us wherever we go. No matter where we are mentally, emotionally, or spiritually He is there. ️ Even when we can't trace God, we can still trust Him. God will be faithful to show us remnants of hope and light. ️ God's hand, coupled with the prayers of others, can provide protection over us, even while making bad decisions. However, it honors Him when we realize His love for us and return to His path of light. ️ God is never lost and He is with us through every valley. When we lay down our pride/ego and allow Him to pave our way, it's then that we can find our purpose. About Our Guest: DeRon was born and raised in Folsom, Louisiana, and is a 2019 graduate of the Louisiana State University-Shreveport University (LSU-Shreveport) with a Master of Business Administration - Marketing, and a 2012 graduate of the University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM) with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications, where he ran track for two years. DeRon is the owner of Key Marketing Solutions, and he is also a pastor and podcaster. He is married to Patience Talley and they have both a daughter and a son.

What does it take to be successful in sales for the IT industry? Tim Arpin, Regional Sales Manager for NY/NJ at Service Express, a data center maintenance company, has a candid conversation with Phil and Nabeel about the world of sales — the good and the bad — and what he loves about providing value through consultative sales for the data center industry. Arpin always had a natural proclivity for sales. While in his teens he started selling golf equipment in a sporting goods store. He then worked at Enterprise Rent-A-Car as a sales manager and went on to do sales and business development for several firms. A former manager from Enterprise invited Arpin to join him at Service Express as a senior account manager.  He soon realized how attractive the IT industry was: “IT sales now is like pharmaceutical sales in the eighties and nineties…there's a lot of success to be had, a lot of growth in the industry…a lot of IT spend, with lots of companies looking for salespeople.”  Arpin became conversant with the technical aspects of the industry through a combination of online research, on-the-job training, and developing relationships with clients and vendors. Arpin speaks with pride about his work helping to support his company and their customers. He shares his commitment to sales as a profession — how he is in it not just for financial rewards, but also to solve problems, find value, and build relationships.  He references the book “Selling with Noble Purpose: How to Drive Revenue and Do Work That Makes You Proud” by Lisa Earle McCleod which emphasizes the importance of finding your reason, the “why” behind your selling, and believing that what you're selling is providing value and having impact. “The consultative process of sales is an art form…the need to become a high-level consultative seller has forced me to become a better salesperson — a better listener, a better relationship builder, a better problem solver.” In terms of advice, Arpin highlights the importance of staying current and actively pursuing knowledge. He also recommends attending industry events where one can make or deepen relationships with vendors, colleagues, and end users. “AFCOM has by far been the most beneficial for me…I get to walk through the latest data and learn…there's always guest speakers and different companies talking about their products…that stuff's invaluable.” He shares the following insight: “The biggest thing that helped me honestly, was just conversations with end users when I didn't know something. Being open to admitting that and asking them to explain it to me, because I wanted to learn.” Tim Arpin is the Regional Sales Manager for the New York/New Jersey Market for Service Express, a third-party Data Center Maintenance Provider. Arpin has been with Service Express for over four years and has fifteen years of sales experience starting with a job selling golf equipment at a local Sports Authority store while he was in high school. Arpin manages a team of eight sellers and lives in North Jersey. He has a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration/Marketing from Eastern Connecticut State University.

Hi everyone! Thanks for tuning-in today for a new episode of Entrepreneur Mindset-Reset, THE podcast where entrepreneurs just like you and me share how they master their mindset to overcome obstacles to their success. In today's episode, I am thrilled to be speaking with the passionate and very-dedicated-to-music, David Joseph of School of Rock Chapel Hill. David took a leap of faith back in 2017, and left his corporate gig to start a music school! David is the owner and General Manger of School of Rock in Chapel Hill, NC, which is a franchise of the School of Rock, inspiration for the movie with the same name.  David reminds us that our life skills are transferrable, so we should always aim to find something that we love and take it out into the world. This shows up so much in David's dedication to the success not only of his School of Rock location, but also in how he supports the success of students and staff. School of Rock provides music education, and so much more for all aspiring musicians, from tiny tots to retirees. In addition to music education, the opportunities for press coverage, live gigs and live-streamed gigs, builds impressive resumes for young musicians, many of whom go on after high school to study music and become professional musicians.  David's success tips are all great, but the one that really struck me was this: Proceed as if success is inevitable. Let me repeat that: Proceed as if success is inevitable. I would add: when you believe it, you'll see it, so proceed as if success is inevitable. So, grab a beverage or a snack and settle-in to listen to David and his amazing journey. You can find David at: LinkedIn:  https://www.linkedin.com/in/dtjoseph/ Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/david.joseph.520 School of Rock Chapel Hill Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SORChapelHill  Email:  djoseph@schoolofrock.com Web:  https://locations.schoolofrock.com/chapelhill David's Bio: Born in Philadelphia, and raised in its suburbs, David Joseph is a graduate of Drexel University (with both a BS in Business Administration / Marketing, and a Masters of Business Administration).  David's professional career includes finance, operations, and control roles in several national retailers (Hecht's, Zany Brainy, Saks 5th Avenue), as well as consulting, strategic planning, corporate development, M&A, and competitive and market intelligence in the software industry (SAP, SAS).  And then there is music… David is passionate about live music, and rock and roll in particular. It's been that way forever. His favorite teenage memories involve playing the drums with his bandmates. Opening the School of Rock Chapel Hill in 2017 has been more than a business opportunity for David. It's been a musical mission to give back to the community he has come to call home. Anne answered, yes. The explanation entails, take advantage of buying these income-generating properties while the interest rates are low.  7:47 -  Caroline asked, what are the safety measures in place during house tours since people are afraid to go out due to the pandemic.  8:05 -  Anne and her firm introduced Virtual tours.  Also, there are lots of showings using Lockboxes which are master lock key boxes that can hang on doorknobs or fences so the renter's agent can access the key and unit themselves.  They are also offering Virtual Open houses as well as some in-person open houses with masks, shoe covers, and gloves.  They Limit the showings in tenant-occupied units for safety and protection measures.  But what is great is that interest rates are very low so new homeowners and investors are taking advantage. 142: Ken Hoyt—Harnessing The Extraordinary Power of Data

A little over two years ago, in June 2017, Dr. Kenneth Hoyt did a podcast with us about his work with higher education institutions that needed, or wanted, to change. We had previously worked with Ken when he was president of Centenary University from 2002 to 2009 when he turned around the institution, dramatically increasing enrollment from 1,600 students to 3,300. How did he do this? By better understanding and improving retention rates and expanding into non-traditional, adult, online and graduate programs. It was Ken's mastery of the power of data that enabled him to provide the insights needed to better recruit potential college students while adapting Centenary's curricula to their needs. Are you in need of a turnaround? Listen and learn! It was this same understanding of the power of data that led Dr. Hoyt to found The Higher Education Practice. In our 2nd podcast, we asked him to talk about the work he has been doing with higher education institutions, especially regarding the three-year project he recently completed with the Association of Independent Kentucky Colleges and Universities (AIKCU). This podcast is important because Ken discusses how he engaged with these colleges and universities to get them to capture and analyze their data, and then own the results so they could transform their institutions and better serve their students. You can read the analysis of Ken's work, “Optimizing Academic Balance (OAB): Mission, Quality, Market Potential, Cost, and Revenue,” here.  Of particular interest to us at SAMC and the work we do in higher education: Dr. Hoyt looks for the Key Performance Indicators on which a college should be focusing. All too often, institutions are not looking at the right data. They are focused on enrollment and retention but are unaware of how their own data can help them better attract, and retain, students. He successfully got the independent colleges in Kentucky to see the benefit of cross-institutional analysis. As anthropologists, we also look across institutions, and even industries, to better understand which model works best in which setting. He also helps organizations disrupt the myths which they have always held to be true, even when the facts are neither supportive of those myths nor trusted to change them. At one college he worked with, the administration was certain that minority students performed poorly when compared to (white) majority students. The facts said the opposite. The administration also thought that residential students did better than commuters. Wrong again.  SAMC helps organizations "see, feel and think" differently There is so much information, along with exceptional insights, awaiting college leadership that wants to see things with fresh eyes. It really is all around them, if only they could see it. At SAMC, that's what we're all about: helping clients see things through a new lens, with fresh eyes. About Ken Hoyt The founding principal of The Higher Education Practice, Dr. Kenneth L. Hoyt is in the midst of a distinguished 30-year higher education career. He has served as president of Centenary University in Hackettstown, New Jersey, president of The Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges, Inc. (OFIC), vice president for The University of Akron, and in various campaign/fundraising leadership positions for Otterbein College and Baldwin-Wallace College. Dr. Hoyt holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration and Leadership from Ohio University, an M.A. in Journalism/PR from Ohio State University, and a B.A. in Business Administration/ Marketing from Baldwin-Wallace College. During his seven years at Centenary University, he transformed the institution, implementing a collaborative strategic planning model that led to unprecedented enrollment growth in the university's traditional, non-traditional/adult, online and graduate programs. Recently, Centenary was recognized by Intel as one of the top 50 wireless universities in the U.S. for its wireless IBM laptop campus.  To learn more about what's ahead for higher ed, check out these blogs and podcasts  What Makes Arizona State University the Most Innovative College in the US? She is currently a substitute teacher, owns a baking business, and is pursuing real estate as well. We discuss about the values shared in these society about how expectations arose from the world and where her influences came from. With history in business from her family, she’s had her own baking business for 10 years now. We talk about how she came about into business and as well as she was able to leverage from her college experience.  Post College series is one of the seasons the On-The-Go Voice podcast has created to connect with the current generation. This season is about interviewing recent or post graduate students from college to explore the raw and authentic emotions after college, which involves seeing things from their perspectives and understanding the role of college for them. By dissecting their values, this series is focused on identifying the impact on society itself and why graduates chose to pursuit where they are at. I’m more so excited to share with people where people have gone and tell their stories how they view it so that we can see life for more than what it is.  There will be more seasons catered to target certain individuals that I believe that the world needs to hear more about.
