On the morning of December 8, 1944, General George S. Patton rang  his Third Army Chief Chaplain asking him for a prayer to stop the rains. What ensued was a conversation of revelation with one of our nations greatest Generals, his faith and his die hard belief that victory was only ensured through prayer. The Chief Chaplain ended up producing a prayer card with a Christmas message from General Patton on the reverse side, as well as Training Letter No 5 with instructions to Chaplains and Commanders on the importance that everyone pray. 250,000 prayer cards were printed and distributed by December 14, 2025. Luke 2:22–24Forty days after a firstborn male was born, the law of Moses required that the mother participate in a purification ritual and that the parents were to “redeem” the child by offering a ritual sacrifice. As faithful Jews, Mary and Joseph took these obligations seriously. When they entered the Temple, they were met by a holy man named Simeon, who was among the faithful Jews “awaiting the consolation of Israel.”From its founding, the Kingdom of Israel had endured many troubled times. The last time the Kingdom of Israel had been united was under the reign of King David and his son Solomon in the tenth century B.C. After Solomon's death, the kingdom split into the Northern Kingdom of Israel and the Southern Kingdom of Judah. The Northern Kingdom was captured by the Assyrians in 722 B.C., and the Southern Kingdom was conquered by the Babylonians in 586 B.C., leading to the destruction of the First Temple and the exile of many Jews to Babylon for about seventy years. In the centuries that followed, Greek culture was imposed upon the region after the conquest of Alexander the Great, and the Romans finally captured Judah in 63 BC, maintaining control beyond the birth of Christ.This history of oppression and division created various responses among the Jewish people. Many prophets had foretold the coming of the Messiah, the one who would bring consolation to Israel. Some Jews expected the Messiah to be a political leader who would reunite and restore the Kingdom. Others were indifferent to the prophecies. But a faithful remnant, like Simeon, awaited the Messiah who would bring about a profound spiritual renewal.Simeon was not a Pharisee, Sadducee, or scribe, but an ordinary devout Jew filled with the Holy Spirit. It was the Holy Spirit Who revealed to him that he would not see death before he had seen the Messiah. On the day Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the Temple, Simeon, inspired by the Holy Spirit, came to the Temple and recognized the Christ Child. He took Jesus in his arms and rejoiced, saying, “Lord, now let your servant go in peace; your word has been fulfilled…”We should all strive to be like Simeon. Like the people of Israel and Judah, we are living in a world where God's Kingdom is often divided or overshadowed by immorality, wars, divisions, and a lack of faith. We might be tempted to address these challenges in various ways, but the best way is to become part of the faithful remnant who, like Simeon, trust in God's promises and eagerly anticipate His transforming action in our lives and in the world. Reflect today on the state of the world. In some places, the Kingdom of God is vibrant and alive; in others, it seems distant or absent. No matter where you find yourself, turn your gaze to the all-powerful Messiah, Who is capable of renewing His Kingdom on Earth as we await its fullness at the end of time. Devote yourself to His mission, and allow the Holy Spirit to inspire you to be an active participant in bringing about the reign of God. My Lord and Messiah, as I see the challenges and divisions in the world around me, help me to trust in Your promises. May I, like Simeon, be filled with faith and hope as I await Your Kingdom. Inspire me to be an instrument of Your grace, helping to build Your Kingdom here on Earth. Isaiah 63:7 Mercy and Compassion A highly respected running coach was once asked what he would do if he wanted to make his own son an Olympic runner. He responded, “I would get him a coach that believed he could be an Olympian.” After all his years of training runners, this man had learned that having a coach who believed in his runner was a key component to helping that athlete reach his true potential. Isaiah describes the Lord looking at his people and saying, “Surely they are my people, sons who will not be false to me.” How could the Lord say this when Israel had turned its back on him again and again? It wasn’t that God thought he could make his people better simply by believing in them. No, God calls Israel his people because in his love and mercy, he made them his people. “He became their Savior.” A coach might help an athlete achieve his greatest potential by believing in him, but God has done much more for us. Simply believing in us would not have been enough, because left to ourselves, our only potential was to go our own way and stray further away from him. So, God in his love and mercy redeemed us. By sending his only Son, he bought us back from our destiny of being sinners forever separated from him. This truth causes our Christmas joy to overflow every day of the year. In his loving kindness, the Lord has made us his people, who are given the righteousness and obedience of his Son. What’s our response to such mercy and compassion? We can join with Isaiah in saying, “I will tell of the kindnesses of the LORD, the deeds for which he is to be praised, according to all the LORD has done for us.” Prayer: Merciful and compassionate God, I thank you for being my Savior. He framed the scandal almost exclusively as a problem of “Democrat friends,” insisting they be outed while presenting himself as a bystander calling for justice. Coming from Donald Trump, the posture rang hollow, because it leaned heavily on partisan finger-pointing rather than a serious reckoning with how Epstein operated for decades in plain sight. The message read less like a call for transparency and more like a political cudgel, reducing a sprawling, institutional failure into a convenient culture-war talking point. By isolating the scandal to one political camp, Trump sidestepped broader questions about elite protection, federal leniency, and systemic rot that transcend party labels.Critically, Trump's demand also exposed a glaring contradiction: if full exposure is the goal, why limit it to one side while avoiding a comprehensive release of records that would implicate anyone, anywhere? I don't use those words for shock value — I use them because the pattern is now impossible to ignore. While Parliament was closed for Christmas, Keir Starmer quietly U-turned on his farmers' tax, avoiding scrutiny and debate. He followed it with a speech to the nation so flat and empty it reassured no one.  At the same time, pubs and the hospitality sector — the heart of communities across Britain — continue to close, with little meaningful help from this government.  And then came the moment that left many people stunned. The Prime Minister publicly welcomed and celebrated the entry into the UK of Alaa Abd El-Fattah, a highly controversial activist. Alaa Abd El-Fattah is regarded by some as a political prisoner — but past statements attributed to him and widely circulated online, including violent rhetoric, have caused serious concern for many people.  He is accused of being a Jew Hater.  Whether you support his release or not, this was a decision that demanded explanation and judgement — not celebration and silence.  Each of these issues on its own raises questions. Taken together, they point to something far more serious: a Prime Minister showing poor judgement, bad instincts, and no awareness of how his actions land with the British public. That's why this matters. Because leadership without judgement isn't just weak — it's clueless… and it's dangerous.
