According to Statista Research Department, statista.com, "The United States is home to the largest number of prisoners worldwide. More than 1.8 million people were incarcerated in the U.S. at the beginning of 2025."  In the U.S., incarceration extends beyond prisons and local jails to include other systems of confinement. The U.S. and state incarceration rates in this graph include people held by other parts of the justice system as well, so they might be slightly higher than the commonly reported incarceration rates that only include prisons and jails. The statistics are alarming, heartbreaking, and expensive. During this Underdog Ag Podcast, we meet Brandon Hinrichs, the visionary behind Aspire Impact Network. What will be Berlin's legacy? A mecca for upstarts and start-ups, not to mention international creatives of every discipline, the capital of Germany is positioned to be a global cultural leader in the decades to come. For Sascha Wolf, that vision includes Berlin becoming the global impact capital. In this episode, studio MM04's Lou Croff Blake talks with Sascha about his vision for Berlin's future, and the path that led him to a revolutionary approach to networking. Sascha founded AusserGewöhnlich Berlin in 2009, transitioning from a long career in the world of diplomats. He and co-founder Giada Armani wanted to build an alternative network, one based on impact instead of personal gain. Impact alludes to sustainable development, but takes an action-based, multidisciplinary approach. As per the 4-pillar model of sustainability, it means creating environmental, social, cultural and economic positive change. Now, the concept of AusserGewöhnlich Berlin has expanded into GICA, the Global Impact Capital Alliance, which unites different cities with their own established impact networks. And to top it all off, Sacha and colleagues have founded the 17Academy – referencing SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals – to train participants on how to become an impact networker. To learn more about AusserGewöhnlich Berlin, visit https://aussergewoehnlich-berlin.de/ To join the 17Academy, visit https://17academy.org/ To see how your city can get involved in GICA, visit https://gica.community/ At the 202030 Podcast, we have exciting news: our next live event, 202030 Pop-up: Culture & Communication will take place on 06/02/2024 in Berlin. “Over a hundred Black clergy are joining forces to protest the racially insensitive environment at The Word Network, a Christian T.V. station that sells itself as the world's largest African-Ameican Religious Network that reaches 93 million homes in the U.S. The network is owned by a white man named Kevin Adell, and pastors claim he has a history of outright racist actions. His biggest move came on September 19, 2019 when he sent a text message with a photo of himself dressed like a pimp surrounded by Black clergymen he deemed his “hoes.” This incident ignited a boycott against the Word Network kicked off on Change.org. Preachers around the country have signed up to support the boycott, included Bishop George Bloomer, who is one of the preachers featured most prominently in Adell's pimp photo. All the clergy are planning protests in Michigan and other targeted locations throughout the country. Archbishop E. Bernard Jordan, Zoe Ministries, Pastor Debra Jordan, Zoe Ministries, Pastor Larry Reid, Larry Reid Live, Vickie Yohe, Christian Recording Artist, Paul Crouch, Jr. Impact Network, Lisa Sharon Harper, Freedom Roads, and Rev. Anita Faye-Wilson ae just a few of the 100 preachers joining in the boycott. Adell claims he didn't create the racist pimp image, however, he also didn't protest its circulation. In fact, he texted it to various staff, many of whom are Black, including Bishop Bloomer. In the Change.org petition, it's layed out that Bishop Bloomer tried to tell Adell, “This is not funny. This is not good. That pimp talk and hoe talk has racist connotations for Black people.” However, Adell texted Bishop Bloomer, witing “it's funny and you should get over it.” At one point, Adell went even further by photoshopping a picture of Bishop Bloomer in a white tuxedo and below the photo, he typed the text, “The show last night was good, Tattoo (the dwarf from the 1977 show “Fantasy Island” who went around calling Mr. Roarke “Boss”). In other words, Adell was calling Bishop Bloomer his Tattoo, while he was the “Boss.” The last straw came when Bishop Bloomer texted Adell again saying, “This is not good. I don't know what you are doing but stop playing.” Adell responded, “Oh, you're too sensitive.” Bishop Bloomer tried to explain that what Adell was doing was similar to a white man wearing blackface. Bishop Bloomer told Adell once again, “Get rid of this. Stop playing with this.” Adell then texted Bishop Bloomer a picture of himself in a white tuxedo standing next to a friend of his also wearing a white tuxedo. Supposedly using a sharpie, he blacked out the face of the friend, thus producing blackface. Bishop Bloomer ended up leaving The Word Network after this and now, he and the other clergy are demanding Adell publically apologize to Bishop Bloomer and the Black community and they also demand that cable companies drop The Word Network from their packages. You can check out more of their demands at the Change.org petition here, which has since received over 3000 signatures.” --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/antonio-myers4/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/antonio-myers4/support

If you want to build a show-stopping brand that generates attention, creates tons of leads for you, and positively impacts the world, you want to pay very close attention to today's episode with guest, Josh Pitts. I am beyond excited and honored to bring you this conversation with Josh who is a dear friend and former client of mine. Josh is the founder of Shred Media, the world's #1 Attention and Impact Network, he has completely changed the game for branding and social media specifically in the mortgage industry, and he's the host of the Shred Show, which is the most popular podcast and live show in the mortgage space and beyond. Josh draws in listeners from all industries since his content is so powerful and recently I've been honored to be on the show. Josh is such a great show host and interviewer and I was privileged to be interviewed by him. Outside of all this he's a dedicated family man with a beautiful family, he has a huge heart for service, and is just a standout guy all around.   You do not want to miss this conversation with Josh as we talk about building a brand. But not just building a brand, but to break through obscurity. It's not easy, but with consistency and authenticity, Josh is confident that you can impact your audience, even if it's just one person at a time.   Show Notes: [3:14] - Elyse is the one who helped Josh solidify the brand obscurity focus through coaching. [4:09] - Don't make noise, make an impact. [5:26] - Will your posts make an impact or add to the noise? Impactful posts will catch someone's eye and make someone stop and think. [6:29] - Put out meaningful content instead of posting too often. [8:10] - Don't just check the box that you have done something. Think about content coming from your heart. [10:20] - Josh shares his background and journey to his current career. [11:30] - In 2009, Josh and his wife were taken advantage of with a high interest mortgage and it inspired him to help others out of the same issue. [13:49] - With his newfound knowledge and passion, Josh grew a mortgage firm and used social media to help grow business. [15:40] - Building a brand takes time and is hard. But it is possible. [16:54] - Josh has always had a “challenge accepted” mentality when it comes to obstacles. [19:13] - Consistency is the key to everything. [20:48] - Metrics will be distracting and discouraging. Stay consistent. [23:21] - Being the real you is the most impactful. [24:20] - Think about what scroll-stopping content looks and sounds like. [25:34] - Social media is meant to entertain and educate, not to constantly sell. [27:23] - What if you impact just one person a day? [29:04] - What has Elyse seen that impacts people's lives? [31:14] - Listen to your body and feelings when making a real post. [32:55] - Everyone's audience is a little different. Even if someone says the exact same message, you might be the one to have an impact on someone else. [34:53] - If you don't feel compelled to post something, you have to find the balance of posting something just for the sake of posting. [36:20] - When building a brand, where are you coming from? [37:32] - You can't do every single thing. Start small. [39:08] - Josh shares one major thing to do to grow 1% better everyday. [40:16] - Always show up even on days when it is hard. No matter what financial state you start in with us at The Financial Gym, at some point, we like to see all of our clients graduate to investing. To give a Gym analogy to investing, I like to think of investing as taking your money off the sofa and putting it on the treadmill to make it work harder for you. I always say that we work hard for every dollar that we make and when we invest our money, we're asking our money to work hard for us in return. A common theme that we see with a number of our clients is a desire to invest in companies that are socially impactful, whether it's the way they manage employees to the way they navigate the environment, there's a number of ways that companies can be considered impact companies; however, it's often hard to truly decipher the right companies and the best ways to invest in them.  So joining me today is Jean Case, CEO of Case Impact Network to share with us why she thinks impact investing makes sense, how you can participate and what her company is doing to make it easier for us to get involved with impact investing. How do you extrapolate insights on pandemic leadership, the role of women in edtech, and the dynamics of Zoom in just over 20 minutes? Listen to Kelli Campbell, President of Discovery Education as she imparts on how Discovery Education continues to reinvent products and services during COVID, how gender disparities in education need to be rectified, and what board meetings may look like in the “new normal.”In her new role as President, Campbell will expand her portfolio and oversee all aspects of Discovery Education's customer lifecycle management operations, as well as manage the recently acquired Mystery Science business. Most recently, Campbell served as the company's President of International and University. In that role she led the development of innovative partnerships with Ministries of Education in Egypt, Chile, and with channel partners worldwide, and oversaw the development of the Discovery Education's Impact Network, whose members offer educators online access to Discovery Education's high-quality graduate-level professional learning content.Previously, Campbell led the creation and launch of the Discovery Education's Techbook line of business. In 2015, Campbell served on the committee that developed President Barack Obama's “Digital Textbook Playbook.” Prior to joining Discovery Education in 2006, she served as Vice President of Marketing & Product Development at Clearvue & SVE. An early pioneer in using cloud-based digital content for instruction, Campbell directed the creation, launch, and distribution of the award-winning PowerMediaPlus.com media-on-demand system.“Throughout my career at Discovery Education, I've had the privilege of seeing firsthand the tremendous impact our digital resources and professional learning can have on teaching and learning,” said Campbell. “I'm excited to work alongside Scott, our Board of Directors, and the rest of the Discovery Education team on our shared mission to prepare all learners for tomorrow by creating innovative classrooms connected to today's world.”Below is an excerpt from a blog post Kelli wrote on LinkedIn last month:Right now, an estimated 76% of K-12 educators in the U.S. are women, according to AASA. The issue isn't that most teachers are women, but rather like far too many industries and sectors, women's leadership isn't reflected in leadership positions. Only 24% of school district's chief officers are women. While the total percent of women superintendents grew from 6.6% to 13.2% since 1990, 87% of men still hold that role within school districts nationwide. The lack of representation of women, particularly women of color, in these leadership levels impacts all of education.Diversity at all levels fosters innovation and stronger, more equitable informed decision making that is reflective of today's students. Women's leadership in education supports the need for ongoing equity and diverse voices in the content, resources, and access provided to teachers and students in the U.S. and around the world. While we need to have more women in leadership positions, reaching that goal cannot (and should not!) follow the old narrative of women ‘leaning in'. Research shows that addressing gender differences in leadership isn't as simple as encouraging women to be more like men. Rather, all genders must identify, practice, and emulate successful leadership styles, which in practice, include many traits commonly associated with women's working styles. In my experience, what makes a good leader are those very traits I see most often in my women colleagues: perseverance, empathy, open-mindedness, grace under pressure, multitasking, and open communication.

Stories are powerful things. Even your own story can uplift, inspire, and make a change. As a filmmaker, you know the value of stories. What you have the power to do is take what others might see as mundane, and make it compelling and extraordinary. I’m so excited to have a guest who uses his own amazing story to show others how to dig deep into their own potential so that they too can become inspirations. Key Takeaways Life is full of opportunities to improve and reinvent yourself. To do this, you need to seriously consider your strengths, weaknesses, and how you want to grow as a person and as a professional. If done right, this should be a lifelong process. No matter what, we all face challenges. Sharing those struggles and your journey while it’s still happening is one of the greatest gifts you can give to others. Doing so communicates the universal nature of struggle and can inspire perseverance in others who need it the most. About Kevin Brown Kevin L. Brown is native to the City of Detroit, Michigan. He attributes the majority of his success to his rough and violent childhood, which he details in his literary work entitled Chasing Crows: A True Detroit Success Story, which chronicles his life growing up on Detroit’s eastside, one of the city’s roughest areas.  Kevin joined the Impact Network in 2012, where he is a television producer. He is currently working diligently on creating a documentary about his life journey, as well as a movie entitled “Chasing Crows”. Kevin believes that his purpose in life is to be sharing his story of passion, perseverance, and hope with the world so that others may understand what they are able to unlock within themselves. Stories as Vehicles for Positive Change Through the massive reach of the Impact Network, Kevin creates videos aimed at inspiring others. He recognizes that all people are dreamers, but sometimes we need a little inspiration to recognize and act on those dreams. Videos are a way to connect with people on a meaningful level and show them the potential that they have to accomplish great things. Kevin’s own life experience has led him to see this value in storytelling. He gets real and vulnerable in this conversation about his numerous past traumas and triumphs. This is a story that is far from over. It is a  positive one of hope and resilience that we all can identify with, whether we lived it or not. Finding Your Purpose and Using It Throughout it all, Kevin learned countless valuable lessons. He tells us that the only person we should ever compete with is ourselves. We need to understand our strengths and our weaknesses because that allows us to build strong teams and constantly improve.  At the heart of Kevin’s message is that there is purpose in everyone. No matter anybody’s background or current situation, there is still something for us all to accomplish. Kevin describes how to dig deep to discover that purpose so that you can identify it and act on it. How do your past experiences inspire the stories you tell? What challenges have you overcome (big or small) to become the storyteller you are today? Leave a comment on the episode page!   In This Episode: Connecting with amazing people over social media [5:50] The power of video to inspire people [9:15] How Kevin’s difficult childhood continues to be an inspiration [11:55] Why self-discovery and personal improvement are key elements of success [25:25] Why purpose is something everyone has [32:48]   Quotes “I just love the ability to create content - the high of coming up with a concept in your mind, working through it, working through the process, and seeing it actually come to fruition as a picture on the screen and working with like-minded people and creating something that people can benefit from.” [11:02] “Regardless of what you go through, regardless of what people think about you, you have to believe in yourself. Embracing a more fearless approach, even in a pandemic   When Jean Case published her book, Be Fearless: 5 Principles for a Life of Breakthroughs and Purpose five years ago, she had no idea that we were about to experience a life-altering global pandemic—and she certainly didn’t anticipate that the book’s principles would remain relevant during such a crisis. But, as she discussed with Women on the Move host Sam Saperstein, that’s exactly what happened. Case’s book centers on five principles of a fearless approach to change and growth: making big bets; being bold in taking risks; making failure matter; reaching beyond your bubble; and letting urgency conquer fear. And as Case, who’s also CEO of the Case Impact Network, the Case Foundation and chairman of National Geographic Society, told Saperstein, she was a little uncomfortable in the beginning of COVID-19 to have a book about being fearless at a time when we all needed to take safety measures. “But obviously the kind of fearlessness that I talk about in the book is the fearlessness that looks past what's right in front of you and sees a different future, and clearly that's what we've needed in this last year,” she said.   Big risks, big bets At the core of Case’s advice to innovators is the idea of starting where you are. “What is not well understood about entrepreneurs, for instance, is that in most cases they’re really solving a problem when they start a new company,” she says. “And in most instances it’s a problem that they’ve either dealt with, or been up close to. And it turns out that’s universal for change makers around the world.” Once you’ve envisioned a solution to a need that’s before you, you often need to take a big risk and make a big bet to put that vision into practice. In Case’s own life, her big risk and her big bet came in the early days of the internet, when she had a dream job shepherding the new “online services” vision at corporate giant GE. But when a tiny start-up came calling, she was interested in joining an organization with risk-taking in its DNA. Against the advice of horrified friends, she joined the start-up, which later became AOL.   Silver linings of the COVID era The current pandemic has impacted several areas of life over the past year—not the least of which is people’s willingness and ability to take big risks and make big bets. But Case says the pandemic has led to great innovation as well: she tells the story of an emergency-room doctor struggling with a lack of PPE who devised a process so that 80,000 masks a day could be sanitized and reused. And pandemic life has provided fertile ground for another of Case’s priorities: advancing equity and inclusion, especially amongst women. Amidst research showing that organizations with diverse teams outperform those without, today’s virtual meetings are more diverse than when people had to physically meet in an office. She noted a very specific reason why female entrepreneurs are benefiting from the propensity to virtual meetings: “There's a very sad narrative through the years as entrepreneurs sit in front of investors, they get hit on, they have to put up with a lot . . Well, it's a little harder to do that over Zoom.”   Looking forward Case continues to advocate for diversity and inclusion in her roles at both the Case Foundation and the National Geographic Society. When she became chair at National Geographic, the organization’s explorer class was more than 80 percent male; today it’s 51 percent female. At the Case Foundation she continues to both invest in and champion organizations that strive to give women opportunities.  She’s currently putting her passion to work as co-chair of the American Women's History Initiative at the Smithsonian Institution. “This initiative sets out with one goal in mind, and that is to make sure we are adequately capturing the unbelievable contributions and achievements of women through time in America,” she said. “It is a very intentional effort to open up the archives and look across fields and say, where were the contributions of women left on the cutting room floor?” To Case, it’s an extension of her life’s work: recognizing when women have been fearless in the past is a step toward encouraging women to be fearless today.

The Endocannabinoid Deficiency Foundation with Dr. Michele Ross, Ph.D., MBA. Dr. Ross is a neuroscientist and health coach with a passion to help patients with chronic illness live their best life ever. Dr. Ross is both a cannabinoid medicine researcher and a cannabis patient. After being diagnosed with fibromyalgia, neuropathy, and chronic pelvic pain, cannabis and kratom were the only treatments that reduced her symptoms and allowed her to return to work. After hearing thousands of extraordinary patient stories just like hers, Dr. Ross was compelled to ensure cannabis and other natural substances become part of the American healthcare regimen. Dr. Ross was frustrated by the lack of education on the endocannabinoid system both doctors and scientists received, despite medical cannabis being used by millions of patients nationwide. In 2013, she founded the Endocannabinoid Deficiency Foundation, later known as IMPACT Network, which was the first nonprofit to provide research and advocacy on cannabis for women's health. Dr. Ross has been a guest expert on TV and radio shows including The Doctors, The Ricki Lake Show, and KFI. She sits on the Medical Advisory Board of several companies, including NanoSphere-Health Sciences, and is active in drug policy, working to decriminalize cannabis, kratom, and psychedelics around the world as a founding board member of the Society for Psychedelic Outreach, Reform and Education. Dr. Ross became well-known as the first scientist to star on reality television in the world, starring on the #1 hit summer show, Big Brother on CBS, in 2009.
