Hey, it's jD here. August 20th, 2026. Bath, Ontario. A stone coach house west of Kingston that the band turned into a recording room, where "Phantom Power", "Music @ Work", "We Are The Same", and "Man Machine Poem" were all made. Ten years to the day since the last show. This is the last one. Yer Hipstories: Reflections From The Final Tour ran the length of the Man Machine Poem Tour, city by city, Victoria east to Kingston, and it ends here, in the room where the last record was made. Three fans at the table, and not one of them tells August 20th the same way. One was on the floor. One was in the square with 25,000 people. One was on his couch in Brockville with a bottle of wine and a good reason.

Episode 433: On August 16, 1995, Avis Ottey came home to her townhouse in Scarborough, Ontario, expecting to find her daughters packing for the future. Instead, she found nineteen-year-old Marsha Ottey and sixteen-year-old Tamara "Tami" Ottey murdered in the basement. Marsha was just two days away from leaving for Arkansas State University on an athletic scholarship she had worked years to earn. She had also confided something chilling to her mother while packing her bags: "If anything should happen to me, it's Rohan." What followed was a seven-month investigation that stretched beyond the murders of the Ottey sisters. Two unsolved sexual assaults, a seemingly unrelated killing at a Toronto subway station, that of TTC employee Dimitrija Trajceski, DNA evidence, and the largest manhunt in Toronto Police history ultimately exposed the truth behind a crime driven by obsession, control, and extraordinary violence. When I first laid eyes on a book with the title, SELF-HELP FROM THE MIDDLE AGES: What the Seven Deadly Sins Can Teach Us About Living, I interested myself. Even more when I found out the author is an expert in medieval times. Peter Jones is a writer and academic specializing in the history of the human heart. Over his career he has taught at New York University, the University of Toronto, University College London, Complutense University of Madrid, and School of Advanced Studies in Tyumen, Siberia, where he helped put History at the centre of the liberal arts curriculum. But this book is about something that started in the 1300s when I've now learned that the ultimate level of high education was theology with a focus to “create self-aware citizens” and the most prized roles had job descriptions that involved analyzing the triggers of temptation and desire, giving lectures on fear and doubt, and healing the anxieties of people in crisis. Sounds like what we need, now. Thus why I did this show. I thoroughly enjoyed and benefited from this conversation with Pete and learned how I can have a better relationship with these 7 Deadly Sins, which the originator described as, “generic thoughts,” or in essence, human impulses, which include: 1) Pride - vanity, 2) Envy, 3) Anger, 4) Sloth, 5) Avarice - Greed, 6) Gluttony, 7) Lust.
