Industria cosmetică franceză și-a făcut primele calcule.

One of the largest deals to acquire a D2C brand took place in January this year. India's largest manufacturer of consumer good, Hindustan Unilever acquired the skincare company Minimalist, a 90% shareholding for nearly Rs 3000 crores.Homegrown startup beauty brands have been on a roll in India. Scores and scores of new age skincare brands have cropped up since the pandemic and all of them harp on the science of it. And their whole appeal is transparency. Transparency about the ingredients that go into each of their products.Among all of them, Minimalist is the one that really stands out. It is an active ingredients based skincare company that sells things like niacinamide, retinol, Vit C, glycolic acid, and salicylic acid. It launched around the end of 2020, and within a span of eight months, it built a 1000 crore rupee  business. Ever since the pandemic, the world of skincare has witnessed nothing short of a revolution. Almost overnight, that jar of Ponds cold cream that had stood the test of time on dressing tables across the country was replaced by elaborate six-step skincare routines. The legacy brands we grew up with – the likes of Loreal, Ponds, Johnson and Johnson – were dethroned almost overnight. In their place came an explosion of new brands.  Today, everyone wants some skin in the game. Traditional FMCG companies like Tata, Marico, Dabur and Godrej all want in. So much so, that it's hard to keep a tab on the list of D2C skincare brands available in the market now.  But what does it take to launch a skincare brand? Turns out, not a lot. All you need is a contract manufacturer, 30 days, and a penchant for marketing. Tune in. We are hosting our first live recording! Last week, Foxtale, an Indian D2C skincare company secured an $18 million funding in its series B round. Meanwhile, news also broke that the Deepika Padukone-led 82°E is planning to raise around $6 million from new and existing investors. Scores of new age skincare and beauty brands have cropped up since the pandemic and all of them harp on the science of skincare and their whole appeal is transparency.Among them one brand stands out: Minimalist. And now, seeing the success of brands like Minimalist, legacy brands are rethinking their strategy.Tune in.Also listen to: Daybreak Special: Why aren't we scared of chemicals in our skincare anymore?

In this Tub Talks, I get to soak in the unique wisdom of Chantel Jeffries. Chantel is known in the world for seemingly disparate things: being a DJ, investor, entrepreneur, and social media creator. She is simultaneously a mystery. However, this bathtub conversation is a treasure chest of knowledge that I've never heard her share before.  As we learn more about Chantel, we learn more about how interconnected all of these industries actually are. She articulates her multidisciplinary work approach as perceiving every ‘job' as a fractal, in which all things are related to everything else. They all reflect each other.Chantel started out making videos, and then became one of the first people to get partnerships with companies like Revolve, Samsung, Uber, and Loreal as a brand ambassador. In experiencing how deals like these were done, Chantel realized there was more opportunity to be had. Investing in companies and then supporting them made sense, because she believed in the product, and her value add was multifaceted: capital, network, audience… Chantel compares work life to playing games like Zelda or King of Hearts as a teenager, in which the player would go on a quest and have to collect the jewels or find the tools to get to the goal. The journey is the game. And the journey is meant to be enjoyed. Chantel enjoys her life quest. In this episode, she shows us about her unorthodox approach to success and how our success can be limitless too. Chantel grew up in a military family, in which she learned the value of discipline and hard work. With these values instilled in her, Chantel shows us how taking risks aren't really risks because if you put hard work into anything, something will give.Chantel worked hard even as a young person, creating jobs for herself from the beginning. At 14, on the day she could get a job, she walked down the street and started at Arbys. Before that, Chantel did everything from babysitting, to washing cars and cat sitting for neighbors, to reselling her friends' old phones on Ebay: hustling. Chantel has never been afraid to work hard. Now, she doesn't have to work so hard. She tells us about how to create systems and become the engineer of our lives. This approach requires thought. It requires mindfulness. It requires strategy. This approach offsets chaos and pressure. “There are infinite ways to do things,” Chantel shares, “How can I have the most enjoyment while doing them?”Chantel is also not afraid to be authentically herself. In a sense, she is as she always has been. She tells us about rediscovering her old Macbook, in which photobooth she found the archive of videos she made from age 16 to 21. In these videos, Chantel would make videos (VLOGS) for her friends, and then answer questions from people on Tumblr, just for fun. Her life now and her hobbies now, are an extension of that joy. She keeps hobbies like tennis, golf, and rollerblading. She likes the aesthetic things in life and lives her life as if it were a hobby in itself: health is a hobby, figuring out equations is a hobby, decorating her house is a hobby… You get the picture. Chantel defines herself as curious and full of energy, and these hobbies definitely demonstrate that. There is an incredible opportunity in listening to this conversation, and understanding the approach of someone who seems to ‘have it all' and whose life may look like it came easy. It looks easy because Chantel has worked hard and made mindful and intelligent decisions. Her life approach is innovative. I hope you are as inspired by this conversation as I was. Soak it in!

With eCommerce's pervasive presence in today's consumer-led landscape, how can you develop an advertising and media strategy to drive purchasing decisions? Whether shopping online or in-store, consumers want a simple and accelerated experience, and with so many retail channels available, media-buying thought leader Tamara Alesi says brands must adapt to an omnichannel environment to grow their market share. Capturing consumer engagement and intent on these channels requires researching your category, recognizing customer behavior and habits, and identifying the channels with the most consumption. When allocating ad spend and creating marketing campaigns, you can measure results through relevance rather than focusing on reach. On today's episode of The Digital Deep Dive, Tamara Alesi, the CEO of Mediaplus, joins Aaron Conant to talk about adapting your media strategy for the omnipresent eCommerce age. Tamara shares why brands should collaborate with agency partners, pressing marketing trends and challenges, and TikTok's evolution from a social platform to a search engine.

Ahh, the unmistakable scent of a new Business Teardown! This one has notes of brand elegance and a touch of sophisticated aesthetics… but does it have the sweet smell of business success?  Excuse our indulgence in some beauty-based puns; this week, we're taking our first look at a skincare brand that has long been admired for its design, customer experience, and attention to detail - Aesop. With its unique amber bottles, stunningly designed stores, and a deep-rooted commitment to botanical science, Aesop's strategy goes beyond just selling skincare products. It's about selling an experience, a philosophy, and a lifestyle. The brand has carved out a niche in the competitive skincare market by merging a keen sense of design with quality formulations. In this episode, we'll explore how Aesop's distinctive branding, commitment to sustainability, and authentic storytelling have made it a beacon in luxury skincare.  But is this high-end brand all looks and no business substance? Or does Aesop deserve its fabled status?   In this latest dMBA teardown, Alen, Franz, and Tom discuss…. Why Aesop's investment in spa-like store experiences has been a strategic masterstroke How a deep commitment to saying 'no' has helped Aesop own its place in a competitive market The reasons its recent acquisition was a complete no-brainer for new owner L'Oreal How China (and its booming luxury market) could unlock enormous growth for Aesop So relax, unwind, and indulge in another episode of the Business Teardown.   www.d.mba

Work On Your Game: Discipline, Confidence & Mental Toughness For Sports, Business & Life | Mental Health & Mindset

I got this masterclass idea when I was at a conference where Jamie Kern Lima was the speaker. She is in the cosmetic industry and she tells her story about her experience on how she became the first woman in the history of the Loreal brand to become a CEO. Jamie Kern Lima experienced being rejected by so many companies because she used plain models for her makeup line, and companies are telling her that if she wants to sell, she should use a model that is hard to copy and that women can never achieve. These companies that gave her these ideas are similar to the mass media today! Mass Media Sells you dreams that are unattainable so that you keep on paying! Shownotes: [09:27]#1 Mass media is designed to show and tell that you are not enough [13:21]#2 Making somebody feel weak, vulnerable, and embarrassed then selling them something about that weakness. [16:50]#3 Nothing is wrong with working on yourself but don't do it because somebody told you to do it, do it because you want it and you want personal growth. EPISODE SUMMARY: Originally Aired: Mar 8, 2021 For years and years, #JamieKernLima, the mega-mega-millionaire who sold her cosmetics company #ITCosmetics to #LOreal for over a billion dollars, was told her line wouldn't sell, she didn't have the instincts for beauty, and, prepare to get angry, she wasn't the type of person who woman would buy beauty products from... she didn't fit THEIR mold. Yet, this fierce, smart, bad ass wouldn't take no for an answer. She listened to her gut, not the haters and just kept fighting, pushing and. BELIEVING. How did Jamie continue to push through the criticism? How did she go from less than $1,000 in her bank account, 22 bank loan rejections and being a Denny's waitress to the CEO of a Billion Dollar company?
