Every Rammastide (the Third Earth equivalent of Christmas which commemorates the first defeat of Mumm-Ra) the inhabitants live in fear. Of course, the Mutants decide to crash the ThunderCats' Rammastide festivities, knocking over the snowman. Luckily, the intruder alarm alerted the heroes who quickly hid as snow sculptures and overtake the foes. The heroes then invite them in to celebrate. Finally, in issue #128, Snarf is home alone preparing a feast on Rammas Eve, when a traveling salesman tries to cash in. The sidekick tries to haggle with him, making a huge mess. As the ThunderCats return, they invite Snarf and the salesman to the Tower of Omens for Rammastide.Fierce beasts? Yep. Crazy art? Uh huh. The New Zealand Crime and Victims Survey reveals most violent crimes have been dropping in the past two years. It finds the number of sexual assault victims steadily increased over this time. More beat officers are being deployed in Auckland to act as a deterrent to crime. Chief Victims Advisor Ruth Money told Andrew Dickens that these numbers are highly volatile. She says there's lots of high pressure times, like Christmas which can see an uptick of crime in the community. LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Tonight on Real Ghost Stories Online, a collection of encounters that blur the line between the ordinary and the otherworldly. Angela from Michigan recalls a night in the late '90s that should have been harmless fun at a scrapbooking party. Instead, she found herself staring through a hazy, Vaseline-like shimmer at a man in overalls—standing in the doorway of her friend's home. When she spoke up, her friend casually confirmed: Oh, that's just the old man who owned the house. He can't come into this part. A chilling reminder that renovations don't always erase the past. Then there's Stacy, who visited a cemetery Christmas display with her mother. As they drove the narrow, one-way path, headlights appeared in her rearview mirror. But when she pulled over to let the car pass—there was nothing there. No vehicle, no sound, no trace. Just an empty road in the middle of a graveyard. Eric shares the bizarre story of his debit card—used to buy donuts at 8 a.m., yet somehow discovered minutes later buried deep in a box of clothes during his garage sale. With no duplicates, no logical explanation, and bank records confirming the purchase, the only conclusion left may be paranormal interference—or something darker attached to his sensitive girlfriend. And finally, Daniel's four-year-old daughter describes a dream conversation with her great-grandfather. In it, she cheerfully recounted family memories—before abruptly turning somber: “No Daddy, they killed him. He told me last night.” She was right. Her grandfather had been stabbed to death decades earlier, information she could never have known. These are the stories that remind us: the dead aren't always done speaking. Love real ghost stories? Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Jim Sybert, recipient of the 2025 Strobel Volunteer Award for Older Adult Volunteers, who shares his journey of community service, which began in childhood under the influence of his parents. He discusses his career in risk management, which led him to Middle Tennessee, where he has lived for 28 years and found a strong sense of community. Jim's association with Morning Pointe of Brentwood began when a friend required assisted living, and he has since volunteered over 12,000 hours, primarily in their assisted living facility. He was deeply moved by residents' requests to continue visiting after his friend's funeral and has maintained his involvement ever since.Jim spends six days a week volunteering at Morning Pointe of Brentwood, where he interacts with residents by listening to their stories, playing games, and assisting with various needs. He enjoys forming connections with the residents, who consider him part of their family. Jim also organizes Christmas gifts for all residents, making the holiday special for those without strong family ties.Jim shares his meaningful experiences volunteering at Morning Pointe of Brentwood, including his special friendship with a 104-year-old resident whom he helps connect with her family. He expresses humility about receiving the 2025 Strobel Volunteer Award, noting he initially wanted to decline the recognition as he views service as his duty rather than seeking recognition. Jim advises others to find meaningful ways to serve, particularly in assisted living facilities, suggesting simple approaches like bringing candy to start conversations.Visit https://morningpointe.com/senior-livi... to connect with Morning Pointe of Brentwood.Visit https://www.unitedwaygreaternashville... to learn more about Jim Sybert and the other 2025 finalists and recipients of the 2025 Strobel Volunteer Awards hosted by Hands On Nashville powered by United Way of Greater Nashville.
After their Wembley triumph over Watford in 1984, many assumed that Everton had saved a wretched season and Howard Kendall's job. Few could have predicted the season that would directly follow. But Jesus knows the devil's schemes...
Christmas is supposed to be a time for joy, comfort, and Mariah Carey. But for one woman spending the holiday in her childhood home—a late-1700s colonial with a haunted reputation—it became a night she'd never forget. Freshly divorced and feeling a bit like a lonely ornament tossed into a landfill, she returned to the house where she'd once danced around decking the halls for ghosts past. Only this year, one ghost decided to RSVP. While refilling an ice tray, she came face-to-face with a glowing Civil War soldier—full uniform, shadowed face, and just enough eerie charm to ruin your quiet nightcap. What did he want? Was it a message? A memory? Or just a long-time spectral roommate checking in for the holidays? Either way, this haunted holiday turned into something more heartwarming than terrifying… and possibly a lesson that no one is truly alone on Christmas—even if your date is from the 1860s. Devoted Know Your Enemy listeners will recall that, in November 2021, we released a fairly dense, theory-driven episode on Frank Meyer, the Communist from New Jersey whose exploits on behalf of the Party in the UK got him kicked out of the country and back to the United States, where he eventually turned right and became a key figure in the post-war U.S. conservative movement, both as an editor at National Review and an architect of institutions like the American Conservative Union, Young Americans for Freedom, and the Conservative Party of New York. Of course, we had more to say about Meyer, and we're devoting another episode to him, this time focused on the details of his incredible life, thanks to the publication of an extraordinary new biography of Meyer, Daniel J. Flynn's The Man Who Invented Conservatism: The Unlikely Life of Frank S. Meyer. Flynn discovered a trove of never-before-seen papers of Meyer's that range from personal documents (tax returns, Christmas cards from Joan Didion, his dance card from college) to his correspondence with nearly every conservative writer and intellectual of note in the 1950s and 60s. Armed with these files, Flynn offers a vivid portrait of a brilliant, eccentric political life and mind.Listen again: "Frank Meyer: Father of Fusionism" (November 10, 2021)Sources:Daniel J. In this episode of Tech Talks Daily, I speak with Jane Ostler from Kantar, the world's leading marketing data and analytics company, whose clients include Google, Diageo, AB InBev, Unilever, and Kraft Heinz. Jane brings clarity to a debate often clouded by headlines, explaining why AI should be seen as a creative sparring partner, not a rival. She outlines how Kantar is helping brands balance efficiency with inspiration, and why the best marketing in the years ahead will come from humans and machines working together. We explore Kantar's research into how marketers really feel about AI adoption, uncovering why so many projects stall in pilot phase, and what steps can help teams move from experimentation to execution. Jane also discusses the importance of data quality as the foundation of effective AI, drawing comparisons to the early days of GDPR when oversight and governance first became front of mind. From Coca-Cola's AI-assisted Christmas ads to predictive analytics that help brands allocate budgets with greater confidence, Jane shares examples of where AI is already shaping marketing in ways that might surprise you. She also highlights the importance of cultural nuance in AI-driven campaigns across 90-plus markets, and why transparency, explainability, and human oversight are vital for earning consumer trust. Whether you're a CMO weighing AI strategy, a brand manager experimenting with new tools, or someone curious about how the biggest advertisers are reshaping their playbooks, this conversation with Jane Ostler offers both inspiration and practical guidance. It's about rethinking AI not as the end of creativity, but as the beginning of a new partnership between data, machines, and human imagination.

This week on Casual Nerds, Hollywood served up more drama than an actual script. • Avengers: Doomsday – Rumors say RDJ and Ryan Reynolds went full diva slap-fight, and Marvel's solution was possibly: “Bet, you two don't play together anymore.” • Weapons – Marketed as horror, served as thriller, garnished with awkward laughs. Half the crowd called it movie of the year, the other half wanted refunds. • Stephen King – Turns out childhood trauma makes for a hell of a career move. The Long Walk and The Life of Chuck are next up on the adaptation conveyor belt. • Batman 2 – Robin might get shoved in to make the DCU fit, but we're not buying it. Gunn's vision vs. studio meddling = chaos incoming. • MCU Gossip – Tramell Tillman joins Spider-Man, Florence Pugh might be back with her widow's bite, and Jonathan Majors is apparently still on Marvel's Christmas card list. In this episode of Wine Road, hosts Marcy Gordon and Beth Costa (0:00-0:24) introduce the show and thank sponsors Ron Rubin and River Road Family Vineyards and Winery for their support. They welcome Crystalyn Hackett, owner of Spicy Vines, as their guest (0:49-1:00). Crystalyn shares her excitement about being on the show and introduces a spiced wine she brought, which ties into her personal story and the origins of Spicy Vines (1:23-2:55). The wine, described as "Christmas in a glass," is a blend of Grenache, Zinfandel, Carignan, and Petite Syrah, infused with holiday spices and a hint of brandy, evoking cozy, festive feelings (2:05-2:33). Crystalyn recounts her journey, starting with her time as a competitive equestrian in Germany, where she realized her entrepreneurial aspirations (3:08-4:46). After traveling and brainstorming ideas, she returned to California and created her first spiced wine, inspired by a drink she had in Germany (6:00-7:16). Despite having no prior experience in the wine industry, she spent a year perfecting the formula and navigating regulatory challenges to define and legally categorize "spiced wine" (8:03-9:22). Crystalyn explains how she built Spicy Vines from scratch, starting with events in San Francisco and eventually partnering with her now-husband, Doug, who became the winemaker (10:29-11:19). Together, they expanded their portfolio to include Zinfandel, Syrah, rosé, and other varietals, focusing on high-quality, small-batch production (12:12-13:07). Their Healdsburg tasting room, opened in 2016, offers a lively atmosphere with live music, wine cocktails, and charcuterie (13:13-14:22). Crystalyn emphasizes the importance of creating a welcoming, fun experience for visitors and wine club members, offering customizable memberships and personal touches like follow-ups and curated shipments (17:00-24:41). She also teases plans to launch her own podcast to share inspiring stories and connect with others (24:42-25:35). The episode wraps up with details about Spicy Vines' unique "winning cork" promotion and upcoming events, including their harvest release party and annual "Taste of Pine Mountain" event (25:36-27:00). The hosts close by encouraging listeners to visit Spicy Vines and keep it spicy (29:33-30:05). Send us a text! We'd love to hear your thoughts on the show.In this episode of The Resilient Writers Radio Show, we break down the complete roadmap for finishing your book—because contrary to what movies show us, it's not just "type, spell check, publish." Finishing a book requires a systematic, step-by-step approach that prevents overwhelm and helps you track real progress. Why You Need a Step-by-Step ProcessOur culture perpetuates myths about book writing—think Jo March in Little Women or countless Christmas movies where characters magically go from manuscript to bestselling author tour. The reality? Finishing a book takes everything you've got and requires becoming the writer you need to be to complete your unique project.Breaking the process into clear phases gives you momentum, prevents paralysis, and allows you to celebrate milestones along the way. Instead of facing an overwhelming 300-400 page project, you work through manageable steps, always knowing exactly where you are in the process. The 11-Step Process to Finishing Your BookStep 1: Prepare Your Project Plan Treat your book like any other major project in your life. Calculate how many words you need, determine your weekly writing capacity, and create a realistic timeline. For example: if you need 50,000 more words and typically write 3,000 words per week, you're looking at approximately 16 weeks to complete your draft.Step 2: Complete the Essential Book Outline Create a basic outline that tracks your protagonist's journey from beginning to end, including their desires, obstacles, and transformation. This serves as your roadmap for brainstorming scenes.Step 3: Fast Draft Using "Rules for the Draft" Focus on getting the story down without perfectionism. The goal is completion, not perfection.Step 4: Optional Manuscript Evaluation Consider getting professional feedback on your messy first draft to understand what's working and what needs development before diving into revision.Step 5: Story Clarity Revision Shape your draft by determining what story you really want to tell and ensuring that vision translates clearly onto the page.Step 6: Submit to Beta Readers Send your revised manuscript to 3-4 genre readers who can provide supportive critique. Ask specific questions about pacing, character development, and any sections where they found themselves skimming.Step 7: Integrate Beta Reader Feedback Carefully evaluate feedback and decide what serves your book's vision. This may require additional revision passes.Step 8: Line Edit Perfect your language, sharpen verbs, and ensure every sentence serves your story. Only do this after incorporating beta feedback to avoid attachment to scenes that might need cutting.Step 9: Copy Edit Focus on spelling, grammar, and catching typos—especially important if you use dictation software.Step 10: Prepare to Publish Choose your publishing path (traditional or indie) and complete the specific requirements for that route.Step 11: Build Your Author Platform Develop a minimalist marketing approach that builds your presence without taking over your life—whether for pitching agents or self-publishing success. The Power of ProcessThis step-by-step approach transforms an intimidating project into manageable milestones. You can see your progress, celebrate achievements, and maintain momentum knowing exactly what comes next. Each completed step moves you closer to your goal and proves you're further along than ever before.Mentioned in this Episode: Book Finishers Bootcamp, September 11-17
