For years I've know that balance is not an orderly experience of the perfectly designated pie chart. With equal percentages and everything just so. The fact that most modern human societies still hold this version of balance is part of why we have begun to reject the idea of balance all together, because in our bodies we can feel this is not truth. Rather than perfection, what if balance is simply the ever evolving experience of being alive? What if it's about finding the center of the center within us. Ticks bite RV'ers and that keeps you from camping! There is no place across the U.S., Canada, and beyond where you can't say "ticks bite." They're everywhere! The fact is, ticks rank right up there with spiders, scorpions, and other creepy crawlies that people cite as reasons not to head to the great outdoors. The fear isn't unwarranted. Ticks aren't just gross, but they have a very real capacity to spread disease and infection. Yes, ticks bite, and here are two fantastic resources to arm yourself. I found that the Center for Disease Control (CDC) really has a fantastic section on their website dedicated to ticks, their habits, and reporting on tick bites across the US. If there are that many detailed pages about ticks on the CDC's website, that tells me that this is a major concern, year-over-year. So, prepare yourself as we head into outdoor activity season by doing a little learning on their website. Also, the information on CleverHiker.com is well organized and presented in a very easy-to-understand manner. The writers over at Clever Hiker have the expertise that comes with lots of real-time investments in outdoors pursuits and continued education in making those pursuits both safe and worthwhile. They know their stuff, and you can be very well-prepared just by spending a few minutes with their article, alone. Sounds like my name (Lindsay) if I was a robot Jerome, Arizona Jerome was once known as the Billion Dollar Copper Camp, but after the last mines closed in 1953, the booming population of 15,000 dwindled to 50 determined souls. Although its population has risen back to almost 500, Jerome still holds on to its "ghost town" designation, and several B&Bs and eateries regularly report spirit sightings. Jerome saw its first revival during the mid-1960s when hippies arrived and turned it into an arts colony of sorts, and it has since become a tourist attraction. In January 2021 at the ASSA meetings the Association of Christian Economists hosted two academic sessions. One of those was a panel of theologians and economists, all tasked with answering the following question: “What does a Christian Vision for Economic Justice Require of United States Policy Regarding Taxation and Government Spending?” The four participants were John Anderson, from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Daniel Finn from St. John's University, Enoch Hill from Wheaton College, and Christina McRorie from Creighton University. Over the course of four episodes, we are sharing each of the presentations from that panel discussion, followed by a longer interview conversation in which we dig into the ideas in their remarks. If you prefer, you can also go and read printed versions of each of the panelists' contributions, which appear in the Spring 2021 issue of Faith & Economics. Today, we lead off with John Anderson. John is the Baird Family Professor of Economics at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln and the Executive Director of the Central Plains Research Data Center. John is an established leader in the field of public finance, with numerous publications including a textbook on the topic. John has also served on the President's council of economic advisors in 2005 and 2006, and has advised foreign governments on taxation and government budget issues, as he discusses in our conversation here. John has, over the years, turned some of his scholarly attention to thinking about Biblical principles for taxation, spending, and government debt, and since that is the topic of our conversation, you can find links to some of that writing in the notes to this episode. What I appreciate about John's contribution is that he has a flexible and pragmatic approach to these policy questions. He does not think that God ordains specific tax laws or rules for government debt. At the same time, he finds lots of broad guidance in scripture for how we should think about these policies. I suspect I could have pushed him to a point where we found real disagreement on some policy questions, but that would have been a bit of a distraction. His real message is that there are different legitimate priorities that we need to balance and that we need to pay attention to the long-term consequences of our choices. What Does the Lord Require? The process mimics traditional printmaking disciplines that are blended with painting techniques." In 2011, she moved from the East Coast (New York/Miami) and relocated to California. Lifestyle and climate differences aside, the biggest variances are the terrain and diffused, golden light. The brightness of colour found in the work is a reflection of her interior response to this natural beauty. It is emotion expressed through colour, shape, and texture. I never plan ahead or make studies. Each painting is accomplished through an intuitive progression that begins with laying down a background colour made up of many thin layers of paint. This is applied using non-traditional tools such as sponges and squeegees. She then layers the shapes on top, adding and deleting as the image impels her. Asandra says: “There is an inherent freedom when one works without fixed idea or formal methodology. I allow the image to guide me, turning the wood panel around as I work. The final direction of the piece is usually determined at the very end. One can compare it to creating from almost a dream state. The Magus and her companions explore the shining city of Istallia under the hospitality of the Gilded One, whoever that might be. Schools are toured, old friends are visited, and magic continues to die.
The magic continues to pass and with it the magus will die. The journey finds the group leaving barley town and heading into the mistwoods, meeting gray rangers, opening up old wounds, and eventually reaching the city of Istallia.

Eleanor Turner is the Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer at Argent. Eleanor is from Lynchburg, VA & dreamed of moving to NYC or Paris and working in the fashion industry. She attended SCAD, Savannah College of Art & Design, where she majored in fashion design. Starting with an internship at Vivienne Tam, she then worked as a designer at Isaac Mizrahi, Tommy Hilfiger, Tory Burch & J.Crew before founding Argent. Argent was founded in 2016 by Eleanor Turner and Sali Christeson. Argent is a functional workwear company, offering stylish options for women that evoke confidence and allow them to conquer the world! Argent clothing has hidden, functional elements like microfiber pockets to clean glasses or an iPhone screen, places for lipstick or pens, iPhone pocket and more. Their use of color and patterns makes the thought of wearing a suit fun again and they are most often reversible, so you get two-for-one!! Eleanor comes from a family of entrepreneurs. Her great-grandfather owned textile mills and outfitted railroad workers in the 1940s & 50s. She always had the entrepreneurial spirit and fashion industry in her blood, which she realized later as she learned about her family history. Around the time Eleanor was thinking of breaking out on her own and starting a company, a mutual friend introduced her to Sali. Sali wanted to start a women's work apparel company & began discussing this with Eleanor. They went shopping together and realized there was a huge space in the market for this. They knew they could turn suiting on its head and set out to do so! Once you have an idea, it is all in the execution. In order to get started, they had to find manufacturing partners, sample & pattern makers, production partners, make sure the quality was right & find the fabric. The design process - Argent is trying to work on tighter lead times (6-8 months) so they can affect change closer to when the pieces will go to market. They start a season with inspiration which comes from the customer and her everyday life - the atmosphere of the world around us. From there, they begin development, find fabrics and start sampling the clothes. Eleanor's favorite part of her job is talking to the customer, finding out what she needs and how to solve that problem. Her second favorite part is incorporating color since the workwear space has typically been void of color. She gets color stories inspiration from art, tv, etc. Argent has two main collections a year - Spring & Fall with one smaller drop within that to build upon the season. The cross-over blazer is the core piece. There are pants to go back to all the blazers. There are blouses, jumpsuits, dresses and more! Fabric mills are developing more functionality into the fabrics.
