Peter reveals the single most important lever for extending healthspan and lifespan, and explains how he motivates midlife patients using the Centenarian Decathlon framework. He discusses the importance of addressing high apoB and cholesterol even in metabolically healthy individuals with calcium scores of zero, how to manage high blood pressure, and how to accurately evaluate metabolic health beyond HbA1c. Additional topics include time-restricted eating, practical considerations around ultra-processed foods, nuanced approaches to HRT for women and TRT for men, and why early and expanded screening for chronic disease—colonoscopy, PSA, coronary imaging, low-dose CT—can be lifesaving. He also offers insights into treating prediabetes, crafting exercise programs for those short on time, and safely incorporating high-intensity training in older adults. Life of the Record
The Making of "Fairytale of New York" by The Pogues - featuring Steve Lillywhite, Jem Finer and James Fearnley

In celebration of the Pogues' 'Fairytale of New York' EP, we take a detailed look at how their classic Christmas single came together. The Pogues originally formed in London in 1982 by Shane MacGowan, Spider Stacy and Jem Finer. MacGowan had gotten his start playing in the punk band, the Nipple Erectors, and when that band broke up, he began playing in an Irish traditional music style. Gradually, he brought in James Fearnley, Cait O'Riordan and John Hasler to become a sextet. Andrew Ranken replaced John Hasler as they signed with Stiff Records. Their debut album, Red Roses for Me, was released in 1984. For their second album, they added Philip Chevron on guitar and hired Elvis Costello as their producer. Rum Sodomy & the Lash was released in 1985, and they continued working with Costello for the Poguetry in Motion EP, released in 1986. At this point, Cait O'Riordan left the band and they updated the lineup to include Darryl Hunt and Terry Woods. They signed to Island Records and hired Steve Lillywhite to produce their third album. If I Should Fall from Grace with God was eventually released in 1988 and included the Christmas single, “Fairytale of New York.”  In this episode, Steve Lillywhite describes working with the Pogues at this pivotal time in their career when they were expanding the lineup and becoming more ambitious with their song structures and arrangements. Despite not having experience recording a traditional folk band, Lillywhite proved to be the right producer for the Pogues at this moment. His input and confidence in the studio led to them splicing two sections of “Fairytale of New York” together and also enlisting his wife Kirsty MacColl to sing the female part in the song. Jem Finer talks about his initial writing process for the song and how he wrote two potential Christmas ideas that his wife Marcia dismissed as being far too sentimental. Her input led to him rethinking the song and writing about a down on their luck couple, inspired by people who lived in their neighborhood in London. Finer describes how Shane MacGowan then took the song and moved the setting to New York City and added some key lines that were taken from real conversations. James Fearnley describes the thrill of recording the opening section with just piano and voice and how he practiced repeatedly to be able to get that part right. He talks about how the song deserved an ambitious string arrangement and so he worked out some ideas on a synthesizer before bringing in Fiachra Trench to help with the orchestration. By taking inspiration from film scores like Ennio Morricone's Once Upon a Time in America and Leonard Bernstein's On the Waterfront, Fearnley talks about wanting to bring a cinematic sound to match the classic American story that was being told. From the song's long gestation period of a few years, to Steve Lillywhite bringing the tapes home and casually asking Kirsty MacColl to sing on it, to the inspiration behind the classic “I could've been someone”  line, to the initial disappointment of getting to number 2 in the charts, to the perfect sparring duet partners in Shane and Kirsty, to the anti-Christmas Christmas song that has become timeless, we'll hear the stories of how the record came together.

What if the “I'm just in a busy season” story you've been telling yourself is actually masking chronic stress… or worse — the early stages of burnout? If you've been holding everything together on the outside while quietly falling apart on the inside, this episode is your wake-up call. Today, I'm pulling back the curtain on the real difference between chronic stress and burnout — especially for my high achievers who live in hustle culture, normalize overwhelm, and don't realize when they've crossed the line. This is the episode you didn't know you needed. In this powerful and personal conversation, I break down: – Why it feels normal for ambitious women – The subtle symptoms we brush off – How high performers mistake stress for “drive,” “discipline,” and “just another busy season” – The emotional flatlining – The loss of spark – Why rest stops working – How you can be “performing,” meeting goals, and still be deeply burnt out I walk you through clear red flags for each stage and the signals your body has probably been whispering for months. Because stress and burnout need different solutions: – Micro resets for chronic stress – Nervous system regulation – Time-blocking with white space – The “close the loop” method – Sensory slowdowns – And how to rebuild after true burnout Whether you're running a business, leading a team, or carrying the weight of everyone's expectations, you'll walk away with the clarity you've been craving. burnout, chronic stress, high achiever mindset, self care for women, hustle culture, nervous system, productivity pressure, stress recovery, burnout recovery, emotional depletion, mental overload ✨ If this episode hit home, share it with another Boss Babe who needs to hear it. In this episode of Canary Cry Clubhouse, host Basil, joined by Pete from Days of Noah Podcast and Rod from Millennial Mustard Seed, discusses a widespread feeling of spiritual and emotional fatigue among believers. They describe this as a "siege" that depletes resources and isolates people. The conversation covers:The nature of the fatigue: It's not just physical tiredness but a spiritual heaviness, possibly a "systematic attack" exacerbated by constant exposure to news and geopolitical chaos.Combating isolation through fellowship: The guests and a caller, Aaron, emphasize the vital role of fellowship and open communication about struggles to counter the enemy's attacks and provide mutual support. The spiritual journey and "honeymoon period": Basil explains the concept of a "honeymoon period" for new Christians, where faith feels easy and joyful. He warns that this period eventually ends, leading to trials and hardships, making fellowship crucial for endurance.Repentance, Refreshing, Restoration, Return: Pete shares the scripture from Acts 3:19-21, outlining the order of repentance leading to times of refreshing and ultimate restoration. The "pipeline" to Christ: Basil notes an interesting trend where people initially drawn to conspiracy theories or fringe topics often find their way to biblical prophecy, the Nephilim, and ultimately to Christ.

Creepypastas are horror-related legends or images that have been copied and pasted around the Internet. These Internet entries are often brief, user-generated, paranormal stories intended to scare readers. They include gruesome tales of murder, suicide, and otherworldly occurrences. According to Time magazine, the genre had its peak audience in 2010 when it was covered by The New York Times. In the mainstream media, creepypastas relating to the fictitious Slender Man character came to public attention after the 2014 "Slender Man stabbing", in which a 12-year-old girl from Waukesha, Wisconsin, was stabbed by two of her friends; the perpetrators claimed they "wanted to prove the Slender Man skeptics" wrong. After the murder attempt, some creepypasta website administrators made statements reminding readers of the "line between fiction and reality". Other notable creepypasta characters and stories include Jeff the Killer and Ted the Caver. In May 2015, Machinima Inc. announced plans for a live action web series curated by Clive Barker, titled Clive Barker's Creepy Pasta. The term is a portmanteau of the words "creepy" and "copypasta", a word coined on 4chan in 2006 to describe viral copy-and-pasted text. The exact origins of creepypasta are unknown. Early creepypastas were usually written anonymously and routinely re-posted, making the history of the genre difficult to study. Jessica Roy, writing for Time, argued that creepypastas emerged in the 1990s when the text of chain emails was reposted on internet forums and Usenet groups. Aja Romano, writing for the Daily Dot, stated that Ted the Caver was arguably the earliest example of creepypasta. The story, posted on Angelfire in 2001, was written in the first person from the perspective of Ted as he and several friends explored an increasingly frightening cave system. Many early creepypastas consisted of rituals, personal anecdotes and urban legends such as Polybius and Bunny Man. Darcie Nadel, writing for TurboNews, argued that these early creepypastas had to be somewhat believable and realistic to be re-posted. Many of the earliest creepypastas were created on the /x/ board of 4chan, which focused on the paranormal. Major dedicated creepypasta websites started to emerge in the late 2000s to early 2010s: Creepypasta.com was created in 2008, while the Creepypasta Wiki and r/NoSleep (a Reddit forum, or subreddit) were both created in 2010. The websites created a permanent archive of creepypasta, which profoundly impacted the genre. Many authors started using creepypasta characters in their own stories, which resulted in the development of continuities encompassing numerous works. The definition of creepypasta has expanded over time to include most horror stories written on the internet. Over time, authorship has become increasingly important: many creepypastas are written by named authors rather than by anonymous individuals. Many of these authors attempt to achieve notice through their creepypasta. The copying and pasting of creepypastas has become less common over time; doing so is seen as intellectual theft by many members of the creepypasta community. #creepypasta #nosleep #doppleganger YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channe... Community spirit has been a constant in the work of composer and trumpet player Sarah Wilson, whose experiences and inspirations have ranged from socially conscious puppet theater to brass band and New Orleans traditions to her own illuminating style of jazz. When musicians are truly inspired and connected with one another, Wilson describes, time seems to stand still for artist and listener alike.“Time just evaporates,” Wilson says, “and you're completely immersed in feeling the euphoria and joy of being in this creative moment. You forget everything else that is happening in space and time, while paradoxically the music is moving through time.”During a 2023 artist residency in Krems, Austria, the Bay Area-based Wilson experienced a similar epiphany when she encountered the paintings of Viennese artist Thomas Reinhold. One of the founding figures of German “New Painting” or “Junge Wilde,” Reinhold's large- scale work combines architectural planning with the chance effects of time. Wilson's reaction to the paintings inspired the music on Incandescence, the joy-fueled new album by her sextet Brass Tonic.Out July 18, 2025 via Wilson's own Brass Tonic Records and co-produced by Wilson and Grammy Award-winning producer Hans Wendl, Incandescence was commissioned by InterMusic SF's Musical Grant Program. It draws equal inspiration from Reinhold's bold, multi-hued abstracts and from the street- level, community-spirited traditions of brass band, marching and New Orleans parade music. In Brass Tonic, Wilson combines an all-woman horn frontline – herself, alto saxophonist Kasey Knudsen, and trombonist Mara Fox – with the buoyant rhythm section of guitarist John Schott, bassist Lisa Mezzacappa, and, for this recording, drummers Jon Arkin and Tim Bulkley.Support the show

In this episode of The IT Experts Podcast I sit down with the brilliant Heather Macdonald-Alford from Counting Creators to explore how MSP owners can move from cash flow chaos to real clarity. This is a subject close to my heart because so many great MSPs work incredibly hard without truly understanding what their numbers are telling them. Heather Macdonald-Alford brings a level of honesty, energy and practical insight that cuts through the noise and helps owners see their finances in a completely fresh way.    As we open the conversation I share a view that I see often inside The MSP Growth Hub. Most MSP owners do not really have a finance problem, they have a visibility problem. They look at their bank balance and assume it reflects performance. They tell themselves the numbers will make more sense when they have more time. They hope that the year end will reveal something encouraging. Heather Macdonald-Alford explains how this pattern keeps people overwhelmed and how clarity is always closer than they think when they start looking at the right information.    Throughout the episode I hear again why so many MSPs believe they are doing well when the detail tells a different story. Heather Macdonald-Alford works with MSPs every day and sees the same issue repeating itself. Busy owners who care deeply about their clients still find they are undercharging, over delivering and carrying clients who take too much time for too little return. When she talks about profitability by service it becomes obvious why this is such a powerful starting point. When you know the true performance of each service, you can see instantly where the pressure sits and where value is being eroded. It changes the way you think about growth.    One of my favourite sections in this conversation is when we talk about time tracking. Many MSP owners treat it as a chore and some even resist it. I have seen this in my own clients and I know how quickly it can become a cultural issue. I share exactly how we approach it in our own business and Heather Macdonald-Alford reinforces the point with real clarity. Time tracking is not about checking up on people. It is about giving the business the insight it needs to make good decisions. When your team understand that it protects them as much as it protects the business the entire dynamic shifts.    We then explore the difference between profit and cash which is something that catches MSPs out repeatedly. I have had many conversations with owners who believe they have had a strong month then realise they have large commitments that sit outside the profit and loss. Heather Macdonald-Alford explains why so many owners look at the numbers mid-month, see more money than expected and start making decisions that create stress later on. She gives a clear and simple habit that every MSP can adopt straight away. Review your numbers to the most recently closed month. Not to date. Not part way through. Once that habit forms the risk of being blindsided drops dramatically.    There is also a moment where I offer a long overdue apology for a comment I once made about bookkeeping. I share openly that it was a mistake and Heather Macdonald-Alford brings both humour and depth to the correction. Bookkeeping is not a low value task. It is a growth lever. When the right people manage the numbers the business gains clarity, rhythm, and confidence. When the wrong people manage the numbers, the business loses visibility, and the owner loses control. Heather explains how to spot the difference and what good financial support should look like.    As we bring the episode to a close, I ask Heather Macdonald-Alford for the three actions she recommends every MSP owner takes. Her answers are simple and powerful. Block time every month to review your numbers. Ensure the right people are doing the right financial tasks. Be selective about events and ideas so you stay focused on the actions that genuinely move the business forward. These principles echo what we teach inside The MSP Growth Hub and they create structure around financial clarity that helps owners grow with confidence.    For any MSP owner who wants more control, more insight, and more confidence in their numbers, this episode will give you practical steps that you can use straight away. When you understand your numbers, you lead your business with greater certainty and you create a path that supports both growth and quality of life.   Connect with Heather Macdonald-Alford through her LinkedIn by clicking HERE.       You can also visit their website and learn more about Counting Creators by clicking HERE.    Make sure to check out our Ultimate MSP Growth Guide, a free guide that walks you through a proven process to take your MSP from stuck to scalable, without working even more hours. It's 44 pages rammed with advice, insights and inspiration to help you decide what support is available to you now if you want to grow and scale your business. Is Jasmine Crockett a Force for GOP to Fear? | Ashley Brasfield

House Speaker Mike Johnson said he was “delighted” when he learned Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, is running for Senate.    “I think it's one of the greatest things that's happened to the Republican Party in a long, long time,” Johnson said.    “I want her to have the largest, loudest microphone that she can every single day, and we look forward to having that election down there,” the House speaker added.    Crockett, who is viewed as a member of the Democrat's far-left cohort, officially announced her bid for Senate on Monday. The Texas lawmaker has made a number of claims in the past which Republicans no doubt plan to use against her.    During an interview with Vanity Fair last year, Crockett indicated she thinks Latino voters have a “slave mentality” when it comes to their view of immigration policy. She also recommended tax exemptions for black people, has called Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents “slave patrol,” and has referred to Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott, who is in a wheelchair, “governor hot wheels.”   Republicans appear poised to paint Crockett, and her rhetoric, as the face of the Democrat Party, and while it is unlikely Crockett can pull out a Senate win in deep red Texas, the margin of her support, or lack their of, may prove to be a critical indication of the nation's political views.    On this week's edition of “Problematic Women,” we discuss what Democrats will be watching for during Crockett's run for Senate. Also on today's show, we breakdown what you need to know about Charlie Kirk's latest, and last, book, “Stop, in the Name of God: Why Honoring the Sabbath Will Transform Your Life.”    And some celebrities and podcasters continue to attack Erika Kirk – we discuss why. Plus, Time has named its person, or persons, of the year. Is the magazine's choice accurate?    All this and more on this week's edition of "Problematic Women” with special guest and Daily Caller reporter Ashley Brasfield.  Subscribe to The Tony Kinnett Cast:    https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-tony-kinnett-cast/id1714879044   Don't forget our other shows: Virginia Allen's Problematic Women: https://www.dailysignal.com/problematic-women  Bradley Devlin's The Signal Sitdown: https://www.dailysignal.com/the-signal-sitdown  Follow The Daily Signal:  X: https://x.com/DailySignal  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thedailysignal/  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheDailySignalNews/  Truth Social: https://truthsocial.com/@DailySignal  YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/DailySignal  Rumble: https://rumble.com/c/TheDailySignal    Thanks for making The Daily Signal Podcast your trusted source for the day's top news.
