What does it take to go from an Idaho high school state champion to playing college basketball? On Episode 477 of The Gametime Guru, Shane Larson sits down with Josie Davis, a former Owyhee High School standout from Meridian, Idaho, and current college basketball player at Fort Lewis College. Josie was a four-year letterwinner at Owyhee High School and capped off her prep basketball career as a state champion and State Tournament MVP. She earned multiple All-Conference and All-State honors while also competing at a high level in track and field. But Josie's story goes far beyond championships and awards. In this conversation, Josie gives athletes, parents and coaches an inside look at what it actually takes to make the jump from high school sports to college athletics. We discuss: When Josie realized she wanted to become a college athlete The extra work she put in outside of normal basketball practices The sacrifices high school athletes may have to make to reach the next level Owyhee High School's run to an Idaho state basketball championship How Josie handled pressure during the state tournament Why she believes young athletes should compete in multiple sports How track and field helped improve her explosiveness, athleticism and rebounding The biggest differences between high school basketball and college basketball Transitioning from point guard to shooting guard at Fort Lewis College Why defense has always been one of the foundations of her game Why young basketball players need to actually watch high-level basketball What a typical day looks like for a college student-athlete Her routine of working toward 300 made three-pointers per day Balancing basketball, lifting, conditioning, classes and studying Why athletes need to remember they are more than their sport The biggest life lesson basketball has taught her Her future goals in occupational therapy and working with children Josie also explains just how different the college game becomes. The speed increases. The physicality increases. Every player was successful at the level they came from, which means competition for playing time becomes even more intense. For Josie, that transition also meant learning an entirely new role. After playing point guard throughout high school, she moved to shooting guard at Fort Lewis and began developing into more of a scoring threat while continuing to take pride in her defense. One of the biggest lessons from this episode is the importance of doing the work that nobody requires you to do. Extra shooting. Extra training. Strength work. Watching basketball. Learning the game. Prioritizing academics. Showing up on the days when you may not feel like doing it. Josie shares how that mentality helped take her from Owyhee High School basketball in Meridian, Idaho to becoming a college basketball player. And while athletics are a major part of her life, Josie also offers an important perspective for student-athletes: you are more than your sport. She is currently studying health sciences and plans to pursue a master's degree with the goal of becoming an occupational therapist and eventually working with children with disabilities. If you're a high school athlete wondering what it takes to play college basketball, a parent helping your athlete navigate the process, a coach developing young players, or simply a basketball fan who enjoys learning from athletes who are currently living the journey, this episode is for you. Guest: Josie Davis Position: Guard High School: Owyhee High School – Meridian, Idaho College: Fort Lewis College Sport: Women's Basketball The Gametime Guru brings you conversations with athletes, coaches and sports professionals from around the world to help you see sports through a different lens. What time is it? GAMETIME.

Introduction What does an insurer actually own after a few years of buying AI one use case at a time? Feathery co-founder Zack Khan argues that the answer decides whether AI ever produces more than incremental gains, because a workflow you cannot change without filing a vendor ticket is a workflow you are renting. Fresh off a $30 million round led by Portage, with Allstate and Erie both in as strategic investors, Khan walks host Joshua R. Hollander through what it takes to put workflow control in the hands of the operating teams themselves. Guest Bio Zack Khan is Co-Founder of Feathery, the AI operating and decisioning system for financial services. He started as a software engineer building complex forms at Robinhood and Nextdoor alongside co-founder Peter Dun, then became the fifth employee at Hightouch, where he led marketing as the company grew toward a $3 billion valuation. Khan and Dun founded Feathery in 2021 as a developer-focused form builder and grew it into a platform that now serves more than 300 firms, including Tokio Marine, Hiscox, Baldwin Group, and Hylant, orchestrating submission intake, virtual inspections, quoting, and benefits workflows across carriers, MGAs, and brokers. Feathery ran profitably before raising its $30 million round in July 2026. Key Topics -Vendor-led vs. team-owned workflows - Why the last generation of insurance software put every change behind a vendor ticket, and what changes when underwriting and operations teams define workflows in natural language instead. -Copilot licenses vs. step changes - Giving everyone a copilot produces small gains; redefining one workflow end to end took a carrier from an eight-hour time to quote down to fifteen minutes. -Orchestrate rather than replace - Feathery's agent, Robin, works across existing rating engines, AMSs, and even legacy desktop applications, automating the data entry instead of ripping out the system. -Rules where you want them, judgment where you need it - Deterministic guardrails handle rating inputs, while objective-driven agents handle tasks like checking a virtual inspection for a pool or a tree touching the roof. -The Baldwin Group benefits example - Custom employee benefit guides that took 20 to 30 or more hours to build now generate in minutes, across 10 to 15 assets and multiple languages, and the team's hours moved to consultative work. -What a platform actually is - Khan's test is control: if you cannot apply your own business logic to your own workflow without a vendor ticket, you bought a point solution. -Start in specialty lines - Fast-growing lines with less tech debt and less red tape are where AI transformation finds its first champions inside a large carrier. Notable Quotes "An actual platform gives you control. If you don't have fundamental control over the actual experience, and you're applying your own firm-specific business logic to your workflow, that is a point solution." "If your rating engine is working great, it's just the annoying part is typing data into it. You don't rip out the whole rating engine; you just automate the data entry part of it." "Some of our customers have gone from an eight-hour time to quote to less than fifteen minutes responding to producers. That's the stuff that actually will impact your bind ratio." "For AI to truly have the impact you want, you need to redefine the workflow, think about the end-to-end ideal process that you want your best underwriter, your best claims adjuster, your best producer to be following." Giving feedback is one of the hardest parts of managing people, and most of us were never taught how to do it. In this conversation, we sit down with Katie O’Brien Ceccarini, Certified Executive Coach and author of Fearless Feedback, to unpack what actually makes a feedback conversation work. We start with mindset (Katie’s reframe of feedback as “food in someone’s teeth,”) and why she stopped calling it feedback altogether, choosing instead to think of it as information that helps someone succeed. From there we move into her “Headline, Observation, Ask” framework, walking through what a good opening line sounds like versus the kind that puts people on the defensive before the conversation even starts. We also get into when feedback is actually worth giving, using her “instance, pattern, and role-fit framework” and how often managers should be sharing it, including her 5-to-1 ratio and the idea of staying “high cadence, low stakes” rather than letting things build up. We close with a quick tip on how to receive feedback better, too. Our Guest: Katie O’Brien Ceccarini Katie O’Brien Ceccarini is the Founder of Endurance Management Coaching, a Certified Executive Coach, and author of Fearless Feedback: Everything Managers Have Never Been Taught About Feedback. Over the last 20 years, she’s managed, trained, and developed thousands of people — from scaling Customer Success at Yelp to leading Learning & Development at Opendoor. Today she works with organizations like eBay, LinkedIn, and AllState to build high-performing teams with the power of feedback. Did you get the promotion and immediately start wondering if they made a mistake? Do you feel like a fraud in your own role, waiting for someone to figure out you don't belong? Are you a newly promoted manager who's carrying this quietly, convinced no one else in leadership feels the way you feel right now? The Leader I Needed is the podcast for the promoted professional who has the title but not the tools. Every episode is an honest, people-first conversation about what it actually takes to lead. That includes the private battles no one prepares you for. I'm James Rosseau Sr., and I've spent 20-plus years in corporate leadership at companies like JPMorgan Chase, Allstate, and LegalShield. I've led teams of 40 in New York City. I've been the youngest at the table more times than I can count. And I've dealt with imposter syndrome at every level, including the ones that looked most impressive from the outside. This show is the one I needed back then, built for the leader you're becoming right now. If you're ready to stop carrying this in silence and start leading with the clarity and confidence your team needs, subscribe now and let's do this together. Grab your coffee, close the office door, and let's get to work.
Nate sits down with Morris Central School alumna and Canisius University Soccer player Hannah Wist at the Foothills Performing Arts Center in Oneonta. A small-school standout, she was pulled up to varsity as a 7th grader and went on to earn multiple All-State selections in both Soccer and Softball. Hannah also helped E/M capture Section IV championships in each sport and shares what it was like when the former rivals (Edmeston and Morris) joined forces. Now competing at the Division-I level, she looks back on the path that took her from MCS to Buffalo and the dedication required to make that dream a reality. Hannah discusses her recruiting process, the challenges of getting noticed while attending a smaller school, and the role club ball played in creating additional opportunities. She also reflects on her freshman year at Canisius, adjusting to the college game, and what she hopes to accomplish as she prepares for her sophomore season. Plus, Hannah's close friend and E/M teammate Brenna Bolton from Edmeston makes a special appearance at the end of the conversation.
In this episode of SportsLifeTalk's You Got Next, we sit down with one of the most electric players in Texas girls basketball: Class of 2027 five-star wing Maci Pringle of Flower Mound High School. Standing 6-foot-2, Maci has developed into a versatile scorer, relentless rebounder, high-energy defender, and one of the most entertaining competitors in the DFW basketball scene. She's a two-time District 5-6A MVP, an All-State selection, a nationally ranked prospect, and helped lead Flower Mound to its first state championship game in program history. But for SportsLifeTalk, this episode hits differently. We first saw Maci years ago with the DC Queens, long before the five-star recognition and national rankings. Back then, she was the energetic young player diving for loose balls, attacking rebounds, supporting teammates, and making basketball look ridiculously fun. Now? That same energy has developed into what Maci describes with one perfect word: electric.Maci takes us back to the beginning of her journey and explains how playing with the DC Queens helped her truly fall in love with basketball. She credits teammates like Zayvionna Madison, Jamyla Anderson, and others for helping shape different pieces of her game. She also reveals how growing up playing soccer helped develop the motor, aggressiveness, speed, and competitive instincts that basketball fans see today. Then we get into the transformation.Maci talks about competing alongside and against elite talent, including players she once looked up to. She explains how those environments demanded excellence and taught her about leadership, composure, preparation, and what it actually takes to compete at the highest level. And the work has paid off. After years of being an underdog who wasn't always playing on the showcase courts, Maci has climbed into the national conversation as a five-star prospect. But instead of treating the ranking like the destination, she views it as confirmation that all those unseen hours mattered. Her mentality becomes even clearer when we discuss Flower Mound's historic run to the Texas state championship game. Maci reflects on the heartbreak of coming so close, the lessons she learned from that experience, and why accountability, leadership, preparation, and eliminating the “woulda, shoulda, coulda” moments will be critical as Flower Mound tries to finish the job.And when we ask Maci what's next? Her answer is simple: a state championship.Recruiting is also becoming a major part of her journey. Maci explains what “home” needs to feel like at the college level. She wants genuine relationships, teammates and coaches she can believe in, an environment where love is felt instead of forced, and a university where she can thrive academically. With aspirations of becoming a pediatrician and eventually opening her own practice, strong pre-med opportunities will play an important role in her decision.Of course, this wouldn't be You Got Next without getting to know Maci beyond basketball. We discover she can speak Pig Latin, loves anime and Studio Ghibli films, plays RPGs like God of War, rocks with Mac Miller, Erykah Badu, Summer Walker and Daniel Caesar, and chooses Black Panther as her favorite superhero. We even learn about the $2.30 tacos near Little Elm that may have officially become an SLT road-trip destination.Behind the rankings is a young woman who is funny, confident, thoughtful, competitive, ambitious, and incredibly comfortable being herself. That's what makes Maci Pringle's journey worth watching.Subscribe to You Got Next on Spotify and Apple Podcasts, leave a rating and review, and share this episode with someone who loves girls' basketball. We've watched Maci Pringle grow from that energetic young DC Queens player into one of the country's most exciting prospects. And she's nowhere close to finished.Once Maci Pringle pops… she can't stop.
In this episode of The Marketing Rapport podcast, host Tim Finnigan sits down with Andrew Filar, Co-Founder and CEO of Next Call Club, to unpack what's really happening inside the insurance lead economy — and why the old "buy more leads" mindset is quietly costing agencies their profitability. Andrew traces his journey from cold-calling commercial auto prospects at a State Farm office to running one of the largest Allstate scratch agencies in the country, and finally to building Next Call Club, an aggregator-plus-consultative-partner model designed to help agents hit real cost-per-acquisition targets. The views, thoughts, and opinions expressed are those of the speaker and do not necessarily represent the views, thoughts, and opinions of ActiveProspect. Portland's big idea for solving homelessness — pay homeowners $1,000 to house a homeless stranger in their home — has produced exactly five applications in four months. Mayor Wilson called it one of the "fastest and most cost-effective" housing solutions the city had ever deployed. The market responded accordingly. The program's designers appear to have skipped some obvious questions: who volunteers to absorb the liability, the 12-month availability requirement, and the Allstate call when something goes wrong — for $800 a month? The "removing barriers" rhetoric remains fully intact, the progressive bubble is still pressurized, and the gap between the mayor's "fastest" framing and the program's glacial matching reality is apparently not a contradiction anyone plans to address.Sean breaks down the Willamette Week reporting by Sophie Peel, dismantles the "down on their luck" myth, and explains why Portland's political class keeps pulling the same failed lever when the actual solution — law enforcement and political will — is sitting right there. San Francisco figured this out. Portland hasn't. This program will be discontinued. SDM sits down with Randall Renfroe, president and CEO of Allstate Security Inc., to discuss Allstate's legacy as a 100-year-old company.
There is someone on your team you need to talk to. They've been showing up late. Dropping the ball. Bringing an attitude everyone can feel. You know the conversation needs to happen. And you've been putting it off for weeks. Here is the truth. Issues don't age well. They rot. And when you finally do have the conversation, if it comes out as "because I'm the boss, that's why," you just made it worse. In this episode, James Rosseau Sr. shares the working relationship that went sideways for over a year before he figured out what he was doing wrong. He walks you through the three-question filter you can use before you open your mouth, the four moves that let you be direct without being destructive, and the short list of do's and don'ts that can keep any hard conversation from going off the rails. James also shares the story of a head of strategy at Allstate who stopped him cold one day. He never once said the words "because I said so." But he was living in "because I said so" mode. And it was costing him exactly the expertise he had hired her for. You'll learn why most workplace blowups have nothing to do with the actual issue, why your office is the worst place to have a hard conversation, and why the sandwich method is quietly making your feedback forgettable. By the end of this episode, you'll have a script you can actually use for the conversation you've been avoiding. Feedback private. Celebration public. Never flip those two.
Fresh off their 11-city Breakaway Tour, Christian Polanco and Alexis Guerreros return to the studio to process the post-World Cup soccer landscape. Christian kicks off the episode with an unbelievable travel horror story about a chaotic flight delay from Miami to Dallas involving an intoxicated passenger, an unruly accusation, and an emergency flight attendant swap. The hosts then dive into a blueprint for the future, detailing radical ways to overhaul US Soccer and turn the USMNT into legitimate contenders for the 2030 World Cup—from ending pay-to-play under Arsène Wenger and merging CONCACAF with CONMEBOL to creating a 50-state "States Cup" tournament. Next, the guys welcome USMNT midfielder Tyler Adams for an exclusive, wide-ranging interview. Tyler breaks his silence on the team's World Cup exit against Belgium, setting the record straight on what really went down in camp when Folarin Balogun's red card suspension was rescinded 20 hours before kickoff. He reflects on Mauricio Pochettino's front-foot tactical philosophy, reveals why Pochettino declaring he "wished he was American" after singing Country Roads was his favorite team memory, and details his ongoing community mini-pitch initiative with Allstate. Finally, the hosts analyze the summer transfer window frenzy and critique the latest kit drops across world football. They break down major moves including Morgan Rogers' £117M transfer to Chelsea, Anthony Gordon joining Barcelona, Robert Lewandowski signing with the Chicago Fire, and Casemiro's move to Inter Miami amid LA Galaxy discovery-rights drama. They close out the show with a look at Manchester City and Real Madrid's roster overhauls, Sebastian Berhalter's transfer to Middlesbrough, and a fashion breakdown of the best and worst jerseys of the season. If a brand is no longer what a company says it is, but the sum of every experience a customer has, what does that mean for the marketing department's role in the organization?Agility requires more than just adapting to market changes; it demands a fundamental shift from broadcasting a message to engineering an experience. It requires a willingness to unlearn old definitions of brand and embrace a new reality where customer perception is the ultimate truth.Today, we're going to talk about what some are calling a "reformation" in branding. It's a move away from the traditional model of logos, slogans, and campaigns, and toward a new understanding where the brand is the cumulative effect of every single customer interaction. This shift has massive implications for organizational structure, strategy, and how we measure success. To help me discuss this topic, I'd like to welcome, Lou Carbone, Professor of Practice, Michigan State University & Founder/Chief Experience Officer at Experience Engineering. About Lou CarboneLou Carbone, often called the "Godfather of Experience Management," has been a pioneer in experience engineering since the 1980s. California homeowners are about to absorb the steepest home insurance rate increase of any state in the country — a 16% spike that isn't a rounding error but the compounding result of years of regulatory failure. Gavin Newsom's California Department of Insurance kept a stranglehold on rate approvals for so long that major carriers like State Farm and Allstate simply walked away. Residents were left relying on an underfunded state plan nobody wanted, and when the Palisades fire hit and billions in claims came due, the math finally caught up.Now the bill is landing inside escrow accounts and monthly mortgage payments that millions of California families cannot absorb. Overregulation didn't protect consumers — it guaranteed this crisis. The reinsurance market priced the risk that Sacramento refused to acknowledge, and every homeowner in the state is now paying for that bet. This is just one more notch on California's affordability belt. Insurance isn't optional when you carry a mortgage, and when the unavoidable cost of staying becomes unsustainable, people leave. They already are — and this 16% shock is going to accelerate it. The state is not getting cheaper. It is getting more expensive on every axis simultaneously, and the exits are wide open.Subscribe to @reasonablenews for daily news from a perspective the mainstream skips — no spin, no nonsense.#California #InsuranceCrisis #CostOfLivingGO PREMIUM WITH REASONABLE+ FOR UNCENSORED ACCESS

Your projects keep stalling and you've been blaming the wrong thing. It's not your team. It's not that they lack ownership. It's not that they don't care. The real reason is something most new managers don't see coming, and once you see it, you can fix it this week. Are you leaving meetings feeling aligned, only to come back a week later and realize nothing moved? Are you constantly refereeing decisions nobody seems willing to make? Are you carrying the anxiety of entire projects because no one knows what they actually own? In this episode, you'll learn why productive meetings don't create ownership, why decisions freeze when no one knows who has the authority to call it, and how to bring clarity to one stuck project before this week is out using a simple framework. Two sentences. That's all it takes to save yourself two weeks of spinning. I'm James Rosseau Sr. I've spent 20-plus years in corporate leadership leading large teams at JPMorgan Chase, Allstate, LegalShield, and beyond, and I've watched this one thing drain projects over and over. If you're tired of meetings that lead nowhere, frozen decisions, and carrying the weight of every project on your back, this episode is for you. Grab your coffee, close your office door, and let's get to work.

In today's episode of the Tactical Dent Tech Podcast, I'm unpacking one of the biggest realizations I've had after this recent hail season: Is high volume really the best business model anymore? After running full throttle for the last month and a half, dealing with packed shops, overwhelmed logistics, insurance bottlenecks, storage issues, delayed approvals, supplements, and technician management — I'm stepping back and evaluating what actually makes sense moving forward. In this episode, I break down: The reality of running a hail shop during a major storm Why State Farm, USAA, and Allstate are disrupting the process Long approval times and supplement delays The hidden cost of storage and tied-up shop space Why body shops become bottlenecks during hail season High volume vs high profit shop models Whether it makes more sense to chase every car… or maximize every claim Why technician pay and retention matter more than ever How insurance company relationships are changing the game Thinking long-term: shop growth, acquisitions, and retirement strategy The truth is, hail repair logistics are changing fast. Insurance companies are tightening the process, approvals are slower, and independent shops are being forced to rethink how they operate. At some point, every shop owner has to ask themselves: Do I want to do more cars… or make more money per car? This episode is an honest look at what happens after the storm settles down and you finally have enough breathing room to evaluate what worked, what didn't, and where the future of your business is headed. Topics Discussed: Paintless Dent Repair (PDR), hail repair business, hail shop logistics, State Farm claims, USAA hail claims, Allstate hail claims, insurance supplements, PDR shop growth, technician retention, hail estimating, CCC1, storage fees, hail damage operations, PDR business strategy, high volume vs high profit, EOS meetings, scaling a dent business, technician pay, shop systems.

A new Wall Street Journal study finds that the five biggest home insurers, Allstate, State Farm, Liberty Mutual, United Services Automobile Association, and Farmers Insurance, denied nearly half of all claims last year. The primary driver is an increase in deductibles, which insurers claim is being done to compensate for an increase in weather-related catastrophes.
