Matty A. and Ryan Breedwell discuss the latest market movements driving the S&P 500 to new all-time highs on this Wise Investor Segment. They unpack the impact of the recent FOMC meeting, where interest rates were held steady, and analyze how geopolitical tensions and negotiations are driving down global oil prices. The hosts also explore the realities of the real estate market, noting that high mortgage rates are squeezing retail buyers while creative financing remains the primary path forward for commercial investors.Additionally, the hosts share actionable investment strategies, taking a close look at massive earnings jumps from AI-driven companies like Palantir, and discussing the long-term outlook for space exploration and robotics equities. They also reveal the dangers of over-leveraging by exploring the rapid liquidation of Leopold Aschenbrenner's hedge fund by Citadel, and provide critical advice on how to vet financial advisors using public SEC disclosures to uncover hidden fees.KEY TOPICS DISCUSSEDS&P 500 all-time highs and the macroeconomic forces behind the market rallyPalantir's explosive earnings and the technical mechanics of stock gap fillingFederal Reserve rate hold decisions and Kevin Warsh's economic commentaryThe impact of Middle East negotiations on global oil prices and inflationMicroStrategy's Bitcoin sell-off and Michael Saylor's corporate historyThe liquidation of Leopold Aschenbrenner's multi-billion dollar hedge fund by CitadelWhy traditional financial advisory firms charge exorbitant fees for generic mutual fundsUsing the SEC Investment Adviser Public Disclosure website to vet financial plannersKEY TAKEAWAYSLeverage in investing can wipe out incredible gains; even a portfolio up over a thousand percent can be liquidated entirely if over-leveraged during market volatility.High-net-worth investors view taxes as a simple byproduct of making money, rather than avoiding them at the cost of liquidity and complex financial gymnastics. The national average 30-year fixed mortgage rate sits near 6.78%, making real estate entry difficult for retail buyers without creative financing or substantial equity.Investors should verify a financial advisor's fiduciary status and disclosure history through the SEC's public database to avoid bad actors and high-fee, non-discretionary models.CONNECT & TAKE ACTIONImagos Income Fund: Text "INCOME" or "DEALS" to 844-447-1555 to learn more about Matty A's private debt fund targeting 10% fixed returns paid out monthly.Visit skylineocresidences.com to discover luxury condo ownership at Skyline OC, Orange County's tallest residential tower.
There are some earnings surprises as we focus on a pivotal week for the markets, highlighted by major earnings reports, the Federal Reserve's latest meeting, and growing signs of market divergence beneath the surface. Microsoft and Amazon delivered strong results driven by cloud and AI-related growth, while Apple and Meta faced significant selloffs. We also examine how the Nasdaq has broken below an important trading range, making the coming weeks critical for determining whether technology stocks can resume leadership or face a deeper correction. We talk the rising long-term interest rates, signs of stagflation, weakening economic growth, elevated inflation, shrinking consumer savings, and growing concerns about market concentration as a handful of mega-cap stocks continue to mask weakness across the broader market. Investors should focus on strong fundamentals and cash-generating businesses rather than chasing popular stocks with weak growth prospects. Today we discuss... The market-moving impact of a busy week featuring Federal Reserve decisions, major earnings reports, and heightened market volatility. How Microsoft and Amazon posted strong earnings while Apple and Meta saw sharp post-earnings declines, highlighting increasing investor selectivity. Why AI enthusiasm alone is no longer enough and why companies are being rewarded based on execution and profitability. The collapse of a highly leveraged AI-focused hedge fund and what it reveals about leverage and institutional trading on Wall Street. How rising long-term Treasury yields and a more hawkish Federal Reserve are creating additional pressure on stocks and corporate borrowing. Growing signs of stagflation as economic growth slows while inflation remains stubbornly elevated. Weakening consumer finances, including falling savings rates and the impact of persistent inflation on household budgets. How a small number of mega-cap technology stocks continue to mask weakness across the broader stock market. Increasing risks in global markets, including currency volatility, Japan's interest rate outlook, and weakness in South Korea's market. The outlook for gold, Bitcoin, bonds, and other asset classes as investors navigate an increasingly uncertain environment. Why investors should remain patient, focus on strong cash-generating businesses, and avoid chasing expensive stocks without solid underlying growth. "We need Bitcoiners to fight for Bitcoin. If no one fights for Bitcoin, Bitcoin will very soon be dead." Hodlonaut is a Bitcoin citizen journalist, the founder of the Citadel21 zine, the man behind the 2019 Lightning Torch, and the person who told the simple truth about Craig Wright and then stood in the fire for five years over it. Most recently he is the author of the Capture series, a deep investigation into how informal power over Bitcoin Core was assembled, exercised, and defended. We recorded this on August 2, 2026, in the middle of the ColdCard fallout, and the grief of that moment runs underneath the whole conversation. From there we go all the way back: how he found Bitcoin in 2013, the Pirate Bay ethos, Citadel21, and the birth of Hodlonaut and the Space Cat. We get into the Lightning Torch as a three-month experiment in trust, the Craig Wright war and how stoicism carried him through it, and then the heart of it: the Capture series, the "priesthood" narrative around Core, the OP_RETURN uncap, the DEI and "extractive" playbook used to shut down criticism, why every line of code must serve monetary sovereignty, and his return to fully supporting BIP-110. This is a conversation about the human layer of Bitcoin, and why we have to fight for it. Subscribe so you never miss an episode.

Coldcard remains the dominant story as estimates of the hardware wallet exploit continue climbing. Researchers now believe at least 15 attackers were involved, with losses exceeding $100 million and possibly approaching $130 million, affecting roughly 7,300 wallet addresses. Matt argues that companies selling security products should be held responsible when failures stem from their own implementation, comparing the situation to how exchanges eventually created reserve and insurance funds after years of hacks. The episode also covers Circle's new institutional ARC blockchain, Visa and Mastercard expanding stablecoin payment infrastructure, Hashdex closing its DeFi Spot Bitcoin ETF, continued uncertainty surrounding the CLARITY Act, a foiled plot to kidnap a Bitcoin holder, and World Chain's upcoming throughput upgrade. Matt closes by arguing that trust is crypto's most valuable asset, and when companies built around security fail to protect customers, confidence in the entire ecosystem suffers. The Pima County Sheriff's Department has released two messages connected to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of TODAY co-anchor Savannah Guthrie. One demands millions in Bitcoin and threatens her life. The other claims she died shortly after being taken and was “buried in nature.” In this episode, we examine the communications using forensic linguistics, behavioral threat-assessment principles and practical law-enforcement investigative standards. The conversation also examines how growing institutional adoption is reshaping Bitcoin ownership, why security and trust are becoming more important than ideology, and how the rise of agentic AI trading could transform markets by enabling autonomous systems to trade, manage capital, and interact with financial infrastructure in real time. Coldcard is at the center of the crypto conversation after a flaw in its seed-generation process reportedly allowed attackers to brute-force wallet seed phrases, ultimately draining an estimated 1,367 Bitcoin, worth roughly $88.6 million, from around 4,500 addresses. Matt discusses how the incident is driving some users back toward centralized exchanges, highlighting OKX's report of increased inflows and arguing that the lesson isn't that exchanges are safer, but that every form of custody carries its own risks. The episode also covers BlackRock's launch of tokenized European money market funds, Binance's new Bitcoin-backed lending product, ARK Invest adding Coinbase shares after the stock's post-earnings decline, the crypto industry's growing political influence ahead of the 2026 midterms, and continuing questions surrounding Strategy's recent Bitcoin sale. Matt closes by arguing that trust—not Bitcoin's price—is the biggest issue facing the industry today, as investors weigh the risks of self-custody against those of centralized platforms. A five-year-old firmware bug quietly turned "cold storage" into a guessing game, and roughly $88 million in Bitcoin walked out the door without anyone touching a device. Joel Comm and Travis Wright open year ten of The Bad Crypto Podcast with the Coldcard entropy flaw: a March 2021 build error routed seed generation through a predictable software fallback instead of the hardware random number generator, leaving affected seeds with about 40 bits of entropy instead of 128. Galaxy Research mapped the first sweep — 1,196 addresses drained in 41 minutes — and later waves pushed the total past 4,500 addresses. Updating the firmware does not fix a seed that was already generated. Also on this episode: BitGo CEO Mike Belshe posts a wallet holding 100 BTC and dares Anthropic's Claude to take it. Strategy sells another 1,638 Bitcoin to cover STRC preferred dividends while sitting on $10.9 billion in unrealized losses. Trump's executive orders move the federal post-quantum deadline to 2031, and BIP-361 raises the question of what happens to Satoshi's coins. Truth Social starts selling early access to the President's posts. And American Bitcoin posts a $57.2 million quarterly loss while growing its treasury to 8,002 BTC. Then the hosts swap notes on what they've been building. Travis is turning the marketing canon into installable AI skills at MRKT.NG, finished two screenplays that sat in a drawer for twenty-six years, and rebuilt his site around a news-reading audio agent and a council of nine AI advisors. Joel made a short film, wrote and produced an original song with AI, and makes the case that "slop" is a skill issue — the work is in the directing, not the prompting. Closes with a practical tutorial on building character reference sheets so your AI-generated characters stop changing faces between shots. Strategy sold another 1,638 Bitcoin for roughly $105 million, while also raising about $290 million through common stock sales and maintaining billions in cash to cover preferred dividends. Matt questions whether the company's Bitcoin treasury model can remain sustainable when its holdings do not generate operating cash flow and the business must keep raising money or selling Bitcoin to meet its obligations. The episode also covers BitGo's new institutional account-management platform, Ripple's investment in tokenized finance infrastructure, Robinhood receiving UK crypto registration, Bitget exiting Japan, and South Korea recording its 18th straight month of net stablecoin outflows. Prediction markets also reached $50.6 billion in July trading volume, while Bithumb continues preparing for a possible 2028 IPO. Happy Hodling, Everyone. Hosted on Acast. Craig says Bitcoin is still grinding lower, but not with enough momentum to create consistently strong trading conditions. The market remains trapped between roughly $59,000 and $65,000, with most major cryptocurrencies either drifting sideways or producing only weak trends. Cardano is one of the clearer long setups after gaining more than 14% last week, while Hyperliquid continues to stand out on the short side with a cleaner daily downtrend. Craig remains mostly in cash and would welcome a more decisive move lower because it would create better trading opportunities and more attractive long-term buying levels. For now, he is watching for confirmation rather than forcing positions. US equity futures are trading higher, with the S&P up around 0.6%. Bonds are firmer, with the US 10-year yield down 2 bps at 4.7% and the Bund down 5 bps at 3.2%. The dollar is mixed, firmer against the euro, sterling, and the Aussie, but under pressure versus the yen following FX intervention. In commodities, oil is notably weaker, with WTI crude down 6.5% below $80 a barrel, while gold is trading firmer and industrial metals are mostly lower. Bitcoin is also lower. Market sentiment is benefiting from news that President Trump called off planned strikes against Iran to allow room for negotiations over Strait of Hormuz. Trump said talks would begin Monday and posted parameters of deal have been agreed to. Iran echoed by noting an agreement on Strait of Hormuz close. Companied mentioned: AstraZeneca, BMS, Shell Plc, Blackstone
Jonathan Drake wraps up Spooner's rights argument by taking direct aim at voting itself, arguing that if a right is truly exclusive, you cannot claim a right to override your neighbor's rights just by being part of a bigger group. Expect the "nine men voting on the tenth" thought experiment revisited, a dig into the actual Latin origin of the word "legislation," a surprising cameo from Cicero making a very Spooner like argument centuries early, and a candid aside on Romans 13 that Jon promises to unpack more fully later. He also touches on Bitcoin's philosophical roots in Spooner's writing, a security incident in that space, and an AI research project he's building to study natural law thinkers. Lighter moments include a firewood callback and some sponsor fun, but the core is a sharp, sobering case for why majority rule cannot manufacture legitimate authority.

A full forensic timeline. Brady traced it end to end: a 2018 MicroPython software fallback sat harmless for three years until March 2021, when Coinkite moved to Bitcoin Core's math library and silently bound seed generation to that fallback. Lopp notes the bug lived in the build system, not the main code. Firmware 4.0.0 is the dividing line. Shipped March 17, 2021. Seeds generated before roughly March 1 are fine, and MK3 releases 3.2.1 and 3.2.2 were the last safe ones. Every default seed after that was weak. It was flagged in 2021 and dismissed. Four months after the bad firmware shipped, someone publicly raised Coldcard entropy concerns. NVK's reply called it FUD and demanded a line in the code. That post is deleted; an archived screenshot survives. The scope widened over the weekend. Coinkite added MK2 alongside MK3 and MK4, and confirmed Q and MK5 at roughly 72 bits rather than the expected 128. Independent analysis put the MK4 class nearer 50 to 60 bits in practice. Dice rolls and passphrases do not cover everything. Nine other Coldcard features draw from the same broken generator, including message signing and deriving keys for other purposes. BTC Sessions confirmed an MK4 with a one-word passphrase was drained. Scale, and Cory's proportion. Roughly 1,300 Bitcoin total, 594 in the first wave, with Chainalysis showing the highest-balance wallets targeted first. Cory noted centralized exchanges and lenders have lost about a thousand times more. The chip-ID recovery hope is gone. Holders were told earlier in the week to keep their devices because a chip signature might prove ownership. Brady reported that has since been shown not to work as hoped, narrowing recovery further. Vendor indictment or self-custody indictment? An audience question that framed the hour. Brady argued it is a challenge to upgrade toward multi-vendor multisig rather than a verdict on self-custody. One listener pushed back that the indictment already landed. Joe Nakamoto from Europe. He found almost nobody in his circle affected, since Coldcard's loudest advocates were largely American and circular economies mostly run on Lightning. Bloomberg was the only genuinely mainstream outlet, and its coverage was fair. Open source, and the AI asymmetry. Researchers keep reaching for Moonshot's open-weight Kimi K3 because US frontier models refuse legitimate security work. Rob Hamilton's decentralized effort to pentest Bitcoin repos received grant funding during the show.
