Are you ready for an exciting summary of the latest episode of the Alpine Property Podcast? In episode 20, Lesley Thomas and Steve Thomas review a 4-day French AIps trip. Here's what you need to know! Key Highlights• Visiting the Alps as often as I do is important to give the client confidence that you know what you are talking about. You need to understand the what and where you are selling.• Finally getting the chance to visit Val Thorens at 2300m, somewhere l've been wanting to visit for a number of years. It certainly did not disappoint• There is still a misperception that Courchevel 1850 is full of Russian Buyers and owners. This has not been the case for many years. Now there is a diverse mix of owners and those that visit 1850• Les Allues sits below Meribel at an altitude of 1100m and is a place where some clients overlook. The village itself is a very traditional with narrow streets and warm atmosphere. I really like it there.• As with Courchevel, many of the properties for sale in Meribel that I saw are sold completely off market without any advertising. This is why I cant stress enough, its important to contact us, irrespective of what is advertised on the Alpine Property lnvestments website to let us know what you are looking for. For the two restaurants mentioned in this episode, details can be found below: • Bistrot Serac – St Gervais (https://www.3serac.fr/bistrots%C3%A9rac/)• L'Ceil de Beuf – Courchevel Village (https://loeildeboeuf-courchevel.com/) Join us on our next episode as we continue to uncover Steve's exciting adventures. This week we loved chatting with adventurer, mother, writer, broadcaster and designer Alexandra Tolstoy. As very keen skiers as well as new mums who have just attempted a ski trip with small people - we were keen to discuss her recent family trip over Easter to Meribel and what makes for a fun and easy ski holiday with children. We also talk about her two inspiring businesses - Alexandra organises bespoke horse riding holidays in Kyrgyzstan (Alexandra Tolstoy Travel) and runs The Tolstoy Edit, which is a curated shop of her favourite interiors discoveries.Alexandra has had a fascinating life to say the least. She fell in love with travel at an early age and spent twenty years riding horses all over Central Asia, Mongolia and Siberia. She travelled by horse and camel for nine months on the Silk Road across central Asia to China, hosted a BBC TV series, wrote a book about her adventures and spent time rediscovering her family heritage in Moscow - not to mention raising 3 children as a single mother. She has recently set up The Tostoy Edit - a collection of gorgeous decorative pieces for the home, influenced by her travels and embracing folk traditions and craftsmanship. Separately Bella and Emma discuss Emma's recent trip to Deplar Farm in Iceland, hosted by Eleven Experience. We have talked about (and raved about) Eleven Experience before on the podcast - and safe to say the trip lived up to the expectations of being a trip of a lifetime! From heli-skiing above the ocean to snowmobiling to incredible food to viking sauna rituals to horse-riding to sipping cocktails in the swim-up bar in the geothermally heated pool .. to seeing the Northern Lights .. to trying fermented shark! .. The award winning adventure Deplar Farm is remote, action filled, revitalising and unique - it has to be experienced to be believed. Besides some minor dustings, it hasn't snowed significantly in the French resorts hosting the skiing world championships since mid-January. And there is no snow in the long-term forecast. Instead, the weather has been perfectly clear, sunny and, yes — cold. But a warm front was slated to move in over the posh towns of Courchevel and Meribel in early February, and temperatures were expected to soar well above freezing and start melting the perfectly shaped racing surfaces that organizers have prepared with mostly artificial snow. Dealing with warm temperatures and a lack of snow has been a constant this season across the Alps for the International Ski and Snowboard Federation, known as FIS, with Mother Nature and global warming having just as much say about when and where to hold races as the sport's governing body. Warm weather and a lack of snow wiped out nearly a month of racing at the start of this season, preseason training on melting European glaciers is heading toward extinction and the impact of climate change on the schedule is being seen even in January. “There's a very real threat to what we know and love from winter,” American skiing standout Mikaela Shiffrin said. “We get really caught up in our world and the medals and wins and victories and records and everything. But what we hope is to be able to enjoy skiing and winter sports and winter recreation for many, many years to come. And that's under threat right now.” For nearly three decades, the FIS has started the World Cup season in late October with a weekend of racing atop the Rettenbach glacier in Soelden, Austria. The idea is not only to draw attention to the racing circuit but also to encourage spectators and consumers to start thinking about reserving their winter vacations and start buying skis, boots and other equipment. The entire skiing industry in Europe relies on the race to boost sales. This article was provided by The Associated Press.
Rob and Dom take a look at the highs and lows of the Alpine skiing world championships that took place between Feb 6-19 in Courchevel and Meribel. And they take a listen to the previous interviews with Ragnhild Mowinckel from Norway who took a bronze at the championships and also Henrik Kristoffersen who took a gold! Snow conditionsFrance - mainly dry this week with possible snow in the Haute-Savoie resorts later in the week (that's pds, grand massif, Elaine la clusaz etc)Austria - The southern Austrian alps remained fairly dry earlier on this week but cloud gathered further north and snow was seen down to 700 m levels which is fantastic and later this week that Snow can expect to build up to 60 cm as low at 700 m, so it's the northern part of Austria that's getting the share of the snow right now the southern part will probably not see hardly anyItaly - a slightly drier week but still cold and sunny it's freezing levels at around 1500 m cloud will increase in the eastern Italian out the Dolomites later this week to by the time this podcast is out with some flurries of snow possible mid to later this week. Those flurries could continue later this week and into the borders of Austria but this is just the eastern part of the Italian Dolomites and it's likely that the rest of the Italian ski resorts will remain cold clear skies with very little extra snow this week.Switzerland - a similar story with plenty of sunshine although clouds will increase in the north and north-east later this week with some possible flurries of snow in resorts to the east of Zürich down to 600 m with flurries of snow turning heavier later in the week also mainly in the north-east e.g. Klosters possibly into Engelberg, Laax, possibly spreading Northwest to the likes of Gstaad, Wengen but resorts like Zermatt, St Moritz will see little, if any, snow.

Roger Cruikshank and Nathan Jones both competed for the Royal Air Force alpine team when the inter services snow sports championships first came to Meribel. Now, sixteen years later, they are part of the coaching set up for the RAF team, and in 2022 they enjoyed success with the light blue ladies winning the alpine competition and the men coming second. Both have had very varied lives, both on and off their skis, including Roger's appearance for Team GB at the Winter Olympics in Turin in 2006.
It was the competition that almost didn't happen. But after the inter services snow sports championships were cancelled in 2021 due to COVID, the organisers were more determined than ever to make it happen. And so they did. Meribel ISSSC 2022 is underway and the athletes from all three services, across alpine skiing, telemark and snowboard, are keen to get racing. This is the 70th inter services snow sports competition and the 15th time it's been held in the resort of Meribel, in the French Alps.
Meribel, Courchevel, après ski, oh my! Sami starts off this week's episode by telling Jordana and Aleen all about her luxurious European ski adventures—yes, matching Fila tracksuits were of course involved. We love a good matching moment, which also inspired Sami's upcoming nap dress themed birthday party—save the date for April, everyone. Then they attempt to dissect all the Kim and Kanye drama, as Kim apparently didn't invite Kanye to their daughter Chicago's fourth birthday party, so Kanye pouted on IG Live and then crashed the party. Honestly Kanye, leave the tantrums to the children. And Jordana asks the million dollar question—does Kanye have a therapist? Next, they all discuss the unfortunate nuances of RHOSLC and Jennie Nguyen's offensive Facebook that was recently uncovered. Trust us, you're gonna want to hear about this one, and Sami spills all the Jennie Nguyen Reddit tea. Then onto the Summer House drama between Kyle and Amanda (seriously, what was with that contract?), the weekly And Just Like That debrief (shocker, Carrie gets even more selfish), and Aleen and Jordana cover the Yellowjackets season finale. They get into all the questions we've been pondering—Where did Misty get those Shrooms? And why didn't Jackie just go inside? To wrap up the show Jordana, Aleen, and Sami want to hear from you. That's right, leave us a *glowing* 5 star review if you will, and share all the shows you've been loving and what they should chat about next.
Officials are hoping the current COVID-19 restrictions in France will be lifted in time for the Inter Services Snow Sports Championships to take place in Meribel. The event, which was cancelled last year, is scheduled to start on 30 January but restrictions mean competitors are currently not allowed to travel to the resort. Lieutenant Colonel (Ret'd) Steve Davis, secretary for the UK Armed Forces Winter Sports Association, revealed to Forces News that a postponement until March is being "tentatively" considered.

Two people had been taken into custody, Marseille prosecutor Dominique Laurens said, adding that the probe was targeting a "small part of the team" and that those in custody were part of the "close entourage of the main rider", without naming him. Arkea-Samsic's leader on the Tour was Colombian Quintana, twice a runner-up and also a Vuelta and Giro d'Italia champion. He finished 17th overall on this year's Tour. The French team confirmed that their hotel in Meribel was searched by the OCLAESP, the Central Office for the Fight against Environmental and Public Health Damage, after last Wednesday's 17th stage. Laurens said the search had resulted in the "discovery of many health products, including drugs and especially a method that can be qualified as doping". A source with direct knowledge of the matter told Reuters that a "saline solution" and "injection material" were found. "The elements gathered during the search will need further investigation and analysis," Laurens said in a statement on Tuesday. Injection material can only be in possession of doctors as per the 'no needle policy' in place in cycling since 2011. Arkea-Samsic team manager Emmanuel Hubert said on Monday that the investigation did "not target the team or its staff directly". Quintana, who was allowed to continue working with his own doctor when he signed a three-year deal with Arkea-Samsic this year, later denied using any banned substances and said he had voluntarily answered investigators' questions with "a clear conscience".
On this week's Tips and Tales, Sean Higgins has a conversation with Canadian Olympian, World Cup winner, and World Championship silver medalist Dustin Cook. Dustin made his World Cup debut way back in 2010 and enjoyed a slow and steady progression on tour, scoring points in giant slalom, super-G, and combined before his breakthrough silver medal performance in the 2015 World Championship super-G in Beaver Creek, Colorado. Not only did he shock the field — and himself — that day, but the Ottawa native backed up that performance a few weeks later, landing on the podium a second time in Kvitfjell, Norway, and closed out the season with his first World Cup win, taking the final super-G of the season in Meribel, France. Unfortunately for Dustin, the high of a career-best season came to a screeching halt that fall after he suffered a traumatic knee injury just days before the World Cup opener in Soelden, Austria, forcing him to watch from the couch for the entirety of the 2016 season. Dustin returned to the World Cup a year later and has been a solid performer since, even making his Olympic debut at PyeongChang in 2018, finishing ninth in the super-G. But, as you’ll hear him explain, he’s nowhere near satisfied yet and is busy grinding away to step back on a World Cup podium.
This week I’m joined by one of the UK’s top riders, Matt Simmonds. Matt has had a long career in DH, including a 2nd place in Meribel in 2014. He’s taken on a season of... The post Matt Simmonds – This is a Test appeared first on Downtime Podcast.
Last week I spent some time catching up with a good friend of mine, Mat Wilson, CEO of Einstein Marketer; in Meribel in the French Alps. Skiing has always been something that we both gravitated towards, so it was wonderful to get the chance to meet up with him on the slopes. As you'll hear in the interview, we're in our hotel room in our ski gear, fresh off the slopes - discussing the state of the union of digital advertising through social media, using funnels, awareness campaigns, and lead generation tools. Mat is always going out of his way to shed some light on an industry that's often pretty mysterious - so make sure you're taking notes! I hope that you enjoy this interview as much as Mat and I enjoyed making it!
The 2nd stop of the 2017 DC Hit & Run went down in Meribel, France. The inconsistent and troubling weather didn’t stop the field of over 50+ riders from ripping it up all day. Taking place at France’s legendary DC Area 43, the course challenged riders to ride as fast as they can through banked turns, and throw down their best tricks on the 3 judged sections (pipe, rails, and jump). At the end of the day it was Mons Roisland who took home the cash for Men's Pro and best trick with a switch back 1260, Sebbe De Buck coming in second, and Jordan Morse with 3rd. The mysterious “LeBlanc” lead the way in Men’s Open, and Nikelaeva Xenia won for the Women’s Open. Next stop Whistler! Iain and Jim aren't getting much skiing in at the moment which is probably why they are discussing skiing in fancy dress, what they would do if they bought a ski resort and their best ski related car boot sale find. We have big news as The Ski Podcast wins its first award! There is also a report from Meribel on what it is like to train as a ski instructor and they talk to Paddy the founder of Huski a ready meals delivery company that could be set to shake up the traditional catered ski holiday.

I first met Nick Doody in Meribel, France when we were both performing at the Altitude festival together. Since then I have worked with him many times in London and Edinburgh. He is a striver and an achiever because he is not lazy and is always trying to bust out new material which I always find inspiring. I like his style and his intelligence that he brings to the stage and most importantly in the course of our friendship we never chit chat about insignificant things but always dig deep into each others brains where the best thoughts live. I have always said that London was the key to getting into the world wide circuits for me but what keeps pulling me back there other than some of the best audiences this planet has to offer is the countless genius comedian friends I have there of which I include Nick without hesitation. I often like to see comedians as gun fighters because of the fearlessness with which they have to stare down threatening beasts. I've seen him tame wild beasts and make them purr by rubbing their bellies with intelligent thoughts and that is why it is my pleasure to present to you now the one and only Nick Doody!
