"The protection of interiority is the central motivation of Metamodernism." So says Greg Dember, a Seattle-based musician, songwriter and independent researcher in Metamodernism. As the co-founder of the What Is Metamodern? website with Linda Ceriello, PhD, Greg's writing and podcast appearances speaking on metamodernism have helped popularize the terminology outside of academic discourse through accessible writing. He is the author of Say Hello To Metamodernism!: Understanding Today's Culture of Ironesty, Felt Experience, and Empathic Reflexivity (2024 Exact Rush). He is also a co-editor of the forthcoming multi-author volume, My Impossible Soul: The Metamodern Music of Sufjan Stevens (Bloomsbury/Lexington). He holds a BA (1987) from Yale University.____________Greg and Linda's Metamodern site - https://www.whatismetamodern.comGreg's article on the 11 methods of Metamodernism - https://medium.com/what-is-metamodern/after-postmodernism-eleven-metamodern-methods-in-the-arts-767f7b646cae Greg's book on Metamodernism - https://www.amazon.com/Say-Hello-Metamodernism-Understanding-Reflexivity/dp/B0DHGFKZ8W/__________In this conversation, I sit down with Greg to explore metamodernism as the cultural backdrop that's emerged since roughly 2000, taking over from postmodernism's ironic detachment. We discuss how metamodernism oscillates between modern earnestness and postmodern irony to defend the significance of interiority and felt experience. Greg introduces his framework of 11 metamodern methods—including empathic reflexivity and the double frame—and we examine how artists like the Daniels (Everything Everywhere All At Once), Wes Anderson, Bo Burnham, and even The Beatles navigate this territory. The conversation ranges from David Letterman's evolution to Don Quixote as a proto-metamodern text, exploring how this sensibility has spread from indie niches into mainstream culture, and what it means for how we make and experience art today._____________⏳Timestamps0:00 Episode Intro2:26 Greg's current work: Sufjan Stevens book3:26 What is metamodernism? We share with you a raw & in-the-moment sitdown on Prolific B-Movie Producer Roger Corman. We sat on this as we wanted to give everyone time to process the beloved filmmaker's loss while also framing it mainly on why he resonates with so many of us many film nerds. After starting off with a 1982 David Letterman interview clip, we dive deeper into some of the future A-list talent mentored by Corman, talk less-discussed trivia & address the crappy comments made by (the otherwise talented) screenwriter Paul Schrader over Corman's passing. Love him, hate him, admire the passion, Roger's influence is here to stay for centuries regardless!
Coyle Girelli is my guest this week to share his new release “Out of This Town”, on Sun Records, a collaboration project with the late, Texas native, Mac Davis (“Baby Don't Get Hooked on Me”, so many of Elvis's biggest hits, and so much more!). This album takes you on a journey the way many great records did in my formative years. When a story was told, beginning when the needle first hit the vinyl, till the last lyric was sung. I was so moved by Coyle, and it is easy to understand why Mac reached out to him after seeing him on the David Letterman show a decade ago. Be sure to listen this week, Coyle is a special kind of artist. Originally aired 10/26/2025 on 95.3 FM KHYI the Range in Dallas, TX.

Hi everyone and welcome back to TT. This week, I am honored to welcome J Ryan of the Late Night Playset and founder of the Good Vibes breakfast club in Los Angeles.J is best known for the two things above as well as going adventures in his yellow 997 911. Based on the name of his show, it is clear that he is also a fan of older late night TV. We chat about working for Conan O'Brien back in his youth, why David Letterman is such a big inspiration, driving in Deloreans with Kobe Bryant and so much more.Additionally, what I really loved about this episode is that it's very different from anything we have done in the past. This was a very vulnerable conversation and J and I really opened up about life, things from when we were growing up and of course, we have to talk about his lovely late wife, Nicole.I hope this episode can serve as a reminder that life is fragile, short, yet beautiful. And remember to always try and live it to the fullest, like Nicole did. And that people will be there along the way to help you, encourage you and you are not alone in this life. I am incredibly grateful to J for sharing everything he shared with me, and I can honestly call him a friend after this and a man I very much admire. Cheers to you J, and cheers to Nicole.Follow J on social media @porschelife111 where you can find him on another massive road trip as we speak. Those who we love that pass on are always with us. They live through us, so let's make them proud.
Episode 182 – Mark Malkoff: “Love, Johnny Carson”This week marks the triumphant return of Mark Malkoff, released just one day after his brand-new book, Love, Johnny Carson, officially hit store shelves — both digital and delightfully physical. In this special two-part conversation, Mark and Mike dive deep into the world of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, exploring the legacy, influence, and pure magic of the era that defined late-night television. Mark opens up about the research and stories that shaped his book — including brand-new insights about David Letterman, and how Johnny's Tonight Show helped forge the late-night landscape that followed.Together, the two compare and contrast the genius of Carson and Letterman — the similarities, the differences, and the unshakable threads that tie their work together. It's a thoughtful, entertaining deep-dive into two of television's greatest giants, guided by one of late-night's most passionate historians. Before you do anything else, swing by Hello-Deli.com — the only place on Earth to get officially licensed Late Show with David Letterman merchandise, straight from the legendary Rupert Jee himself. And if this episode made you laugh, learn, or feel even a tiny spark of nostalgia, please like, share, subscribe, and leave us a glowing comment — or a mildly amused one, we'll still frame it.

Identity: Cured | Luke 19:10 & Isaiah 55:8–11 | Identity (Week 2)What does it really mean to be saved? In this message, Pastor John unpacks how the biblical idea of salvation is more than just forgiveness—it's a cure. Jesus didn't come just to rescue us from sin; He came to restore what was broken, heal what was sick, and bring us back to who we were created to be.Through Luke 19:10 (“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost”) and Isaiah 55:8–11, we see that God's thoughts and ways are higher than ours—and His plan for salvation is nothing less than the full healing of our identity.Discover how God's Word not only reveals who we are but also transforms us from the inside out.

Titled after the Kendrick Lamar feature in the latter portion of the installment, welcome to I'm Dying of Thirst. The newest episode curated by your favorite internet disc jockey, DJ Witwickatron. A hip-hip majority installment starting in the 90's and ending at current features. I do love the Jai Paul demo soundcloud playlist, but outside of that? My favorite portions of this episode would be Wu-Tang's Black Diamonds, Beastie Boys live on David Letterman, Paul Wall Sittin' Sideways on vinyl and the Jay Electronica run featuring the closing stanza of Eternal Sunshine. Boylife in EU by Yung Lean makes me smile as well. I really ended up enjoying this episode, I hope you did the same. In other unrelated news, just yesterday I was lucky enough to give a really nice, beautiful lady a bouquet of roses for the first time in my life. Peachy, dusty pink roses that I spent time picking out, found a vase at a separate fancy location and really enjoyed the whole process. No reason in relaying this message to my internet populous other than to let you know that DJ Witwicky is out here balling out of control in real life. Thank you, as always, for being here. I'll be byck with another handful of game next weekend.Polka King of the Midwest,DJ Witwicky
When an icon like Diane Keaton...poised, accomplished and unforgettable, admits to being anxious before a live appearance, it stops us in our tracks. In a recent video shared by David Letterman as a tribute to the loss of Dianne, it showed her being visibly nervous in front of a live audience. The world saw a superstar momentarily unsure of herself… and loved her even more for it.In this episode, I unpack why seeing celebrities like Diane outside their polished performances makes us feel so connected, and what that means for you and your business when you show up live on camera. If you've been holding back from going live because you feel nervous, awkward, or unpolished, this episode will shift your perspective. Vulnerability doesn't weaken your credibility....it amplifies your relatability. If you've been waiting for the perfect time to hit “Go Live,” this is it. I'm offering a free 20-minute Go Live Coaching Call to help you:Identify what's holding you backMap out your first (or next) live topicCreate a simple visibility plan that feels natural and aligned

G-towners and nonfrowners; hello. Well I did tell you that I did indeed have something epic planned for the century mark episode - and I feel pretty confident to say that I delivered on that promise of Epic-iosity. My guest for episode 100 is none other Canadian and American media personality, ex CBC and Muchmusic television host, podcaster, Apple Music showrunner and all around renaissance man George Stroumboulopoulos. George and I started chatting way back during the early days of the pandemic lockdowns, when he would have me pop on his livestreams (as just some random music guy from Ottawa) and when I was doing the graventown livestream basement shows, he would kindly boost my signal and say nice things in the chat. So as you can imagine, I was thrilled to the gills to have such a busy, massively well known and loved high-octane mind in the graventown studio with me. We talked about a metric tonne of topics; music, film, comedy, the arts in general, Norm Macdonald, Kevin Hearn, Marc Maron, Tom Green, David Letterman, The Misfits, long form conversations, human connection and all kinds of golden goose dropping shiznit. I hope you enjoyed our hang. Good things, friends. Thanks for being here for such a special and very monumental episiode.Catch me in a town near you in 2025 alongside Melissa Payne, Stephen Stanley (Lowest of the Low) and many other rad artists by visiting my website to see where I'm playing. If people can hate for no reason, I can love for no reason - and I love you. Thanks for stopping by Graventown. Yer always welcome here. As a full time independent artist, you can support me by buying the Always Everthing vinyl or brand new "block heater" toque here or by joining my SUPER RAD subscription service at https://ko-fi.com/gravencanada - and remember - you're always welcome in Graventown.
”"Is Meg White actually going to show up—or will someone else be the White Stripes?" That burning question sets the tone for a wildly entertaining edition of Krystina's Cookie Jar on The Ben and Skin Show, featuring Ben Rogers, Jeff “Skin” Wade, Kevin “KT” Turner, and Krystina Ray. With the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ceremony just weeks away, the gang dives into the newly released list of presenters and performers—and things get speculative, hilarious, and downright chaotic. From Doja Cat possibly honoring Salt-N-Pepa to David Letterman's confirmed tribute to Warren Zevon, the team plays musical matchmaker, trying to connect the dots between legends and their modern-day counterparts.
In this episode we discuss our Top 5 Late Show with David Letterman performances with Randy Franks

Yesterday, Jimmy Kimmel's late-night show was suspended indefinitely. It's a shocking moment for free speech, given the order in which events unfolded. Earlier that day, FCC Chair Brendan Carr had suggested on a conservative podcast that ABC and its affiliates consider taking steps against Kimmel, saying, “We can do this the easy way or the hard way.” As it so happened, the late-night legend David Letterman was scheduled to speak at The Atlantic Festival the next day. Letterman and The Atlantic's editor in chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, sat down for an impromptu interview about the news. --- Get more from your favorite Atlantic voices when you subscribe. Mark talks with Marc about his early days on soap operas, the faith he had in Star Wars being a big hit while they were making it, the casting troubles he came up against in Hollywood that made him seek work on Broadway, and the voiceover acting that changed his career. They also talk about his connection to Late Night with David Letterman and his recent work in two Stephen King adaptations, The Life of Chuck and The Long Walk. Hosted on Acast.
