In this episode of the Power Producers Podcast, host David Carothers welcomes back Andy Mathisen, Insurance Sales Manager for Homebot. They dive into how agencies can dominate the personal lines market by shifting from transactional relationships to value-driven engagement.  Andy breaks down how Homebot serves as a "set it and forget it" tool that keeps agents front-and-center with insureds while simultaneously generating leads for loan officers and realtors—flipping the traditional referral food chain on its head. Key Highlights: What is Homebot? Andy explains that Homebot is a monthly home digest sent to insureds with a staggering 76% open rate. Unlike standard newsletters, this digest provides homeowners with real-time data on their home value, loan balance, and purchasing power (equity for refinances, HELOCs, or new purchases). The "Santa Claus" Effect: Gaining Leverage  Historically, insurance agents are at the bottom of the referral food chain (Realtor > Lender > Agent). Andy details how Homebot changes this dynamic by aggregating a "Team of Professionals" on the client's dashboard. When a homeowner interacts with financial tools on the platform, the insurance agent can pass those leads back to lenders and realtors, creating immense leverage and reciprocity. Content Strategy: Donuts vs. Data David and Andy discuss why dropping off donuts at a loan officer's office no longer works. To win in today's market, agents must provide actionable data and tools that help their referral partners grow.  The "Too Busy" Trap  The duo critiques the mindset of agency owners who claim they are "too busy" for new leads. They discuss the necessity of implementing systems, departmentalization, and proper website content strategies (blogs vs. paid ads) to scale consulting capabilities without drowning in work. Pet Peeves: Pick Up the Phone! Andy shares his frustration with agencies that rely on complex phone trees or refuse to answer calls, and the growing trend of prospects "ghosting" after good sales calls. From bomb sites in postwar Birmingham to the centre of British stage and screen, Martin Shaw's life has been shaped by curiosity, kindness and a refusal to play the part he was expected to play.In this episode of Full Disclosure, James O'Brien sits down with one of Britain's most enduring actors to trace the journey behind the performances. Shaw reflects on growing up with parents marked by war and frustration, discovering storytelling at school, and the teachers who unlocked a sense of freedom, confidence and purpose. He talks about leaving security behind for drama school, confronting imposter syndrome, and the moment he realised that great acting is not about showing off but about listening. The conversation moves through a remarkable career. From early theatre work and transformative mentors, to working with Roman Polanski on Macbeth, sharing kitchens with Anthony Hopkins, and navigating the highs and costs of fame after The Professionals. Shaw speaks candidly about alcohol, masculinity, spiritual searching and the quiet anger that can linger beneath success. He also explains why kindness on set matters to him, how one encounter with a fan reframed his view of his own work, and why the stage has always remained his creative home.

In this episode of the Long Range Shooting and Custom Rifle Building Podcast, Jamie kicks off a new series called The Simple Truth—and pulls no punches. You can learn through trial and error, or you can learn from professionals. Both are expensive. But what most people underestimate isn't just the money—it's the time, frustration, and risk that come with assumptions and misinformation. Jamie shares real-world stories from decades in long-range shooting, gunsmithing, and manufacturing, including: Why assumption is the death of good projects How "experience" without feedback becomes a closed loop The hidden dangers of DIY gunsmithing done without guidance Why modern "drop-in" parts often aren't drop-in at all How one bad component can ruin an entire rifle And why professional mentorship fast-tracks real progress This episode also dives into why shooting fundamentals and rifle building must go hand-in-hand, and how Wolf Precision's Prosumer Gunsmithing School is designed to give shooters and builders the tools, knowledge, and confidence to do things the right way—safely, repeatably, and without guesswork. Whether you're a long-range shooter, aspiring gunsmith, or someone tired of chasing problems you can't diagnose, this episode lays out the simple truth: learning correctly saves more than money—it saves time, effort, and sometimes lives. Ireland Sees Surge in 'Job Hugging' as Professionals Dial Back Job Searches

Irish Tech News Audio Articles

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 18, 2025 4:32

New data published by LinkedIn has revealed that labour markets across EMEA slackened in October, highlighting the growing competition professionals face to secure a new job. Job seekers are instead countering this trend by reducing their search intensity in favour of "job hugging" - the trend of staying put. In Ireland, job search intensity - the ratio of applications to applicants - fell by -3.9% year-on-year in October, over double the rate of decline in several EMEA-LATAM countries during the month, averaging at -1.5% YoY. Only the United Kingdom (down -9.4% YoY), France (-5.6%), and Germany (-4.4%) recorded higher falls than Ireland. Ireland continues to lead the way on flexible work Hybrid work remains the most popular flexible working option offered by companies in Ireland, with 37.3% of all job postings in October offered as hybrid. Ireland ties with the United Kingdom for the highest availability of hybrid across EMEA, above the average of 30.8% of job postings advertised as hybrid across the region during the same period. Ireland also ranks highly for pure remote positions, placing second in EMEA with 8.2% of all job postings offering the opportunity to work exclusively from home. Ireland ranks second only to the UK (8.6%) and also surpasses the European average (5.3%.) Remote roles remain some of the most in demand jobs, making up 14.7% of job applications in EMEA. Demand in Ireland was higher, with applications for remote jobs making up almost one in five (18.4%) job applications. Green talent more likely to land jobs LinkedIn's Green Skills Report 2025 has also revealed green talent is far more likely to secure a job, getting hired at a global rate of 46.6% above the global hiring rate. Across the world, Energy Management is the fastest-growing green skill category. The proportion of LinkedIn members that added this skill was 17.4% higher in 2025 than in 2024. A spike in AI-driven demand for energy and continued growth in renewable energy supply has led to these skills growing particularly quickly in the Technology, Information and Media and Utilities sectors. Commenting on the data, LinkedIn Ireland Country Manager Cara O'Leary said: "Internationally and in Ireland, we are seeing a trend where more workers are opting to stay in their current roles rather than actively seeking new opportunities. This is down to a more competitive jobs market as companies advertise fewer roles. This is coming through in our data where we have observed a decline in job search intensity, which fell by nearly 4% year-on-year in October. "At the same time, Ireland continues to stand out as a leader in flexible work, with hybrid roles now accounting for more than one-third of all job postings. Remote opportunities also remain highly sought after, with Irish workers applying to them at even higher rates than the European average. Flexibility continues to be a key differentiator for companies seeking to attract and retain the best talent. "Internationally and in Ireland, we're also seeing real momentum around green skills, with talent in this space being hired at rates well above the global average. As demand for sustainability and energy-related expertise accelerates, Irish professionals who invest in these skills will be exceptionally well positioned for the future." See more stories here. Perspective with Ryan Bridge: Let the Jennie Wyllie saga be a warning to sports PR professionals

A quick Christmas message to all the PR people advising sports people and sporting organisations - could you please start talking? The less you talk, the dodgier you look. Stop hiding your CEOS and board chairs under bushes in the hope scandals and poor decisions will be overlooked and forgotten and swept under the carpet. Because if 2025 has taught us anything, it's that they won't and they don't. Jennie Wyllie is gone from Netball NZ. No surprises there. There'll be no surprises either when half the board follows her out the door. They'll be lining that up as we speak with announcements to come soon, I would've thought. But, like cricket, we've got the top dog at a top sporting body disappearing before Christmas without a once-over in the press from their higher-ups. Because Matt Whineray is not fronting this. He's clearly on holiday somewhere. In the world of American football right now, much is being made of Travis Kelce's media management. He refused to do interviews post-match because they lost. Yes that's TayTay's boyfriend, and yes that's the Kansas City Chiefs. They've won a couple of Super Bowls recently. Now they're not even going to make the playoffs. So he's upset, obviously, and doesn't wanna talk to pesky journos. And I get that. I understand that. They're athletes, they're emotional, they're up and down like a yo-yo. But when something goes down in the business of sport, in my view - you should front it in the same way as a regular company CEO or a politician would. The fans are the voters, the shareholders. And they deserve some respect. Respect is shown through communication and right now, they're getting the corporate equivalent of the middle finger. And all of this is made worse by the fact that this is what got them into this mess to begin with with Dame Noels. They didn't front. When they did, they didn't say anything. And then the mood reached fever pitch, almost every single Silver Fern who'd ever donned a bib came out and had their say, even the Government stepped in. Then, finally, things changed. One of the reasons I love netball as a sport is because of the straight-up, hard-as-nails personalities that tend to dominate it. They're no nonsense and they're straight up the guts. Today we had the pleasure of welcoming back our good friend Les Csorba, Partner in Charge of the Houston office and a member of the CEO and Board of Directors Practice at Heidrick & Struggles. Les has over 30 years of experience in executive search, leadership consulting, and executive coaching, and he has long been a thoughtful, balanced voice within the energy community. Earlier this fall, he published “Aware: The Power of Seeing Yourself Clearly” (linked here). It's a fascinating exploration of how confronting blind spots, deepening both internal and external self-awareness, and cultivating environments where candid feedback is encouraged can transform leaders and organizations. As always, we appreciate hearing Les's perspective and were thrilled to visit with him. In our conversation, we cover why 2026 will test leaders, with fast-changing macro and geopolitical dynamics putting pressure on executives to lead with clarity, agility, and foresight. We explore how to create cultures where people speak candidly, including giving trusted team members permission to call out blind spots, as well as the difference between chain of command and chain of communication, and the importance of leaders being visible, accessible, and in direct contact with all levels of the organization. Les shares what led him to write “Aware” and the research Heidrick conducted showing that across 75,000 assessments, only ~13% of people demonstrated true self-awareness, inspiring Les to conclude that meaningfully raising that percentage could dramatically enhance organizational performance. We discuss internal versus external awareness, how leaders must treat macro/geopolitical chaos as primary inputs rather than background noise, how AI can boost efficiency but may dull self-awareness, and how to build feedback cultures and measure awareness. Les reflects on the early reception to the book and why self-awareness matters not just for leaders but for teams, boards, and personal relationships, why self-awareness is at historic lows, the importance of hiring and building around weaknesses, and how leaders can optimize and fully leverage their strengths. Les emphasizes the need to get outside of your information bubble, seek diverse perspectives, and cultivate the blend of confidence and humility that characterizes the most effective leaders. We close by discussing what's next for Les, the four forces for energy leaders in 2026 (agility, internal activism, strategic awareness, and foresight vs. forecast), and the most common board weakness, lacking someone who can push back thoughtfully and respectfully. Mike Bradley kicked us off by noting the 10-year bond yield was holding steady (~4.15%) following last week's FOMC meeting. He flagged the dissenting votes for an interest rate cut and suggested the split could foreshadow dynamics under the next Fed Chairman. On the broader equity market front, he observed that markets appear to be losing trading momentum and that 2026 could be a “year of reckoning” for 2025's market leaders (AI/Tech) as investors begin scrutinizing data center spending and associated returns more closely. In the oil market, he highlighted that WTI fell to a four-year low (~$55-bbl) on continued 2026 global oil surplus concerns rather than any specific event. He also noted that at the current 12-month strip ($55/bbl), 2026 upstream budgets, which will be announced in the next 1-2 months, will likely be negatively affected. On the natural gas front, he pointed out that over the past seven trading days, prompt U.S. natural gas price has plunged ~$1.50/MMBtu (to $3.85/MMBtu) due to a warmer short-term winter outlook. On the electricity front, he noted that 2027+ PJM capacity market auction results will be released Wednesday afternoon. Most investors are expecting prices to again hit the ceiling (~$335/mw), which might serve a

Presented by: Global Training Center Episode Summary This episode concludes Simply Trade's four-part special collaboration with the National Customs Brokers & Forwarders Association of America (NCBFAA), with NCBFAA hosting its own in-depth legal roundtable focused on what trade professionals must prepare for in 2026. Moderated by Laurie Arnold, Secretary of NCBFAA, this candid discussion brings together the association's legal counsel to unpack legislative priorities, regulatory uncertainty, enforcement trends, and agency staffing challenges impacting customs brokers, freight forwarders, and the broader trade community. From tariff volatility and BIS rulemaking to FMC enforcement, PGA staffing shortages, and heightened CBP scrutiny, this final episode provides practical guidance and forward-looking insight for navigating an increasingly complex compliance environment. Key Learnings & Themes 1. Genevieve Keeney-Vazquez explores universal themes in death rituals, examining how funerals, grief, and cultural customs intersect at the National Museum of Funeral History. Museum exhibits include gynecological coffins from Ghana, jazz funerals in Louisiana, and Victorian mourning practices, providing insight into how traditions shape the grieving process and honor the dead. Religion and cultural heritage guide communities through loss, establishing rituals that unite people and create space for healthy grieving. Grief is recognized as an ongoing experience, with individuals choosing solitude or seeking support from loved ones. Genevieve Keeney-Vazquez shares personal experiences with grief and emphasizes practices that foster healing. This conversation is part two of a two-part interview with Ashley Gould for On the Table with Ashley, a podcast dedicated to meaningful conversations across diverse life experiences and professions. Plan your visit to the museum today at nmfh.org and take a journey through over 30,000 square feet of fascinating history. Subscribe to The Final Curtain Never Closes on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. Key Takeaways 1. Rituals surrounding death are universal, but they vary widely in their practices and meanings. These customs serve dual purposes: aiding the grieving process for the living and, in many traditions, helping the soul or spirit of the deceased to “transcend” or move on. Regardless of the specifics, a common thread is that every culture finds ways to honor and remember loved ones, and most have beliefs about life after death or the soul's journey. 2. Funerary practices, including burial containers like coffins and caskets or unique customs such as Ghanaian fantasy coffins or jazz funerals, reflect both cultural values and practical concerns (like public health). These practices evolve over time—sometimes merging, adapting, or being challenged by modern sensibilities—but always provide structure and meaning during periods of loss. 3. Grief is a lifelong and deeply personal process. The transcript emphasizes that grieving varies from person to person and is affected by culture, tradition, and individual circumstance. Equally important is the message that grief should be honored and experienced—not masked or ignored—as unhealthy grief can have lasting physical and emotional impacts. Support from community, rituals, and sometimes professional help, can be vital. 4. Objects, photography, and even art made from cremains are powerful tools for remembrance and healing. These items enable people to hold on to memories, honor the dead, and sometimes find new ways to process loss. The meaning attached to such objects often transcends their physical material, providing comfort and a sense of continuity. 5. Professionals in the funeral industry are both caretakers and guides for grieving families. The transcript highlights that even those with expertise in death care are affected by grief and must manage personal boundaries and seek support when needed. There's an ongoing need for empathy, community, and sometimes humor, to balance the emotional demands of the profession, as well as recognition of the human aspect behind every role.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Joint Readiness Training Center is pleased to present the one-hundredth-and-eighteenth episode to air on ‘The Crucible - The JRTC Experience.' Hosted by the Senior Enlisted Medical Advisor and Role II Observer-Coach-Trainer for the Task Force Sustainment (BSB / CSSB), MSG Timothy Sargent on behalf of the Commander of Ops Group (COG). Today's guests are all combat medicine professionals across the JRTC. SFC William Deutsch is the Senior Medical OCT with TF-3 (IN BN), SFC Robert Schimmelpfenneg is the Medical Advisor and Role II OCT with TF Sustainment (BSB / CSSB), and SFC Anthony Norris is the Senior Medical OCT with Live Fire Division.   This episode dives deep into combat medicine at the tactical small-unit level, focusing on what 68W medics truly face in a large-scale combat operations environment. The discussion highlights how today's medics arrive from Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training with significantly more clinical capability: whole blood transfusions, chest tubes, finger thoracotomies, FAST exams, etc. Yet often lose proficiency once they reach their units due to lack of repetitions, limited clinical exposure, and competing taskings like motor-pool duties and gate guard. The panel emphasizes the widening gap between what new medics learn in the schoolhouse and what line units actually reinforce day to day. Just as importantly, the episode stresses that modern LSCO demands a return to mastery of basics: triage under mass-casualty conditions, reassessments, deliberate casualty collection point (CCP) management, documentation, and base-level soldier tasks such as security, dispersion, movement, and survivability. We routinely observe high-casualties at JRTC, often 60–80 casualties at once and hundreds per rotation. Poor triage and poor soldier-skill fundamentals, not lack of “sexy medicine,” are the leading causes of died-of-wounds outcomes.    The episode also examines how units can better sustain medical readiness during home-station training. Leaders discuss integrating medics into ER rotations, EMS ride-alongs, sick-call operations, and realistic trauma/medical lanes that reinforce both prolonged field care and everyday DMBI cases. They argue that NCOs must reclaim ownership of training through proper DTMS programming, use of existing doctrinal resources, and deliberate linkage to mission-essential tasks. The conversation closes on three high-value priorities for the future fight: deliberate triage, accurate/documented patient care, and competent CCP & CASEVAC execution—all grounded in disciplined soldiering, not just advanced interventions. Ultimately, the episode makes clear that on the LSCO battlefield, combat medics must be clinicians, communicators, and soldiers, capable of saving lives while enabling commanders to maintain combat power forward.    Part of S05 “Beans, Bullets, Band-Aids, Batteries, Water, & Fuel” series.   For additional information and insights from this episode, please check-out our Instagram page @the_jrtc_crucible_podcast   Be sure to follow us on social media to keep up with the latest warfighting TTPs learned through the crucible that is the Joint Readiness Training Center.   Follow us by going to: https://linktr.ee/jrtc and then selecting your preferred podcast format.   Again, we'd like to thank our guests for participating. professorjrod@gmail.comPrinters and multifunction devices are more than just simple office tools—they're intricate systems combining optical, thermal, mechanical, and networked computing components. In this episode, we decode printer technology and its critical role in business operations, highlighting how these devices impact IT skills development and technology education. From unboxing to output, we explore the key decisions that keep your pages moving smoothly while safeguarding your data. Whether you're preparing for CompTIA exams or seeking practical IT certification tips, this episode offers valuable insights into managing printer technology within your IT infrastructure.Instructional Downloadable Resource Guidehttps://www.professorjrod.com/downloadsWe start with fit-for-purpose buying—matching speed, DPI, trays, duplexing, and duty cycle to real workloads—then move to placement and environment, where airflow, humidity, and power quality determine whether a fleet runs smoothly or jams at 4:58 p.m. Firmware strategy matters more than most shops admit: back up configs, schedule updates, and never interrupt a flash. On connectivity, we compare USB simplicity against Ethernet and Wi‑Fi flexibility, then layer in drivers and PDLs—PCL for speed, PostScript for precision, XPS for Windows pipelines—plus the color logic of CMYK. You'll hear clean exam clues for the A+ and practical tells for real-world triage, like when a single user's issue is just a preference and not a driver.Inside the box, we translate the seven-step laser process into actionable troubleshooting: charging, exposing, developing, transferring, fusing, and cleaning each leave fingerprints—smears, ghosting, or blank pages—that point straight to the failing part. We round out the print tech tour with inkjet (thermal vs piezo), thermal printers (direct vs transfer), and impact units for multipart forms. Then we head to the network, where DHCP reassignments, wrong ports, and spooler crashes derail entire floors. Print servers centralize power and risk, and mobile/cloud printing adds discovery quirks and new attack surfaces.Security is the blind spot: printers hold disks, address books, and cached jobs. We lay out the must-haves—PIN or badge release, secure erase, firmware signing, role-based access, and segmentation—so confidential pages don't land in the wrong tray and default passwords don't become open doors. We finish with ethics, because technicians handle sensitive data and trust is the real SLA. If you want sharper troubleshooting, stronger security, and higher A+ exam confidence, this one's a field guide you'll use tomorrow.Enjoyed the deep dive?
