Spoilers for Scary Movie. Jason and Rachel review Scary Movie, the sixth installment in the franchise and the return of the Wayans Brothers. The movie brings back Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Ghostface, horror spoof chaos, offensive jokes, stoner comedy, and a whole lot of nostalgia — but did it actually make us laugh? We talk about the Wayans Brothers returning to the franchise, the Teyana Taylor cold open, the packed-but-quiet theater experience, Scary Movie 3 holding up surprisingly well, The Naked Gun comparison, whether the jokes pull their punches, and why this reboot left us more sad than satisfied. LexG back with a look at the Star Wars entry Mandalorian and Grogu, as well as the latest Scary Movie, a few words about Mortal Kombat II and the bad experience of seeing it at a matinee, and various other random freeform riffs for early June.
This week we're reviewing the return of the Scary Movie franchise. We discuss the endless list of dated references, significant time spent on non-horror movies, the Wayans penchant for punching down, and whether or not Gen X are the new Boomers. Plus, what makes a truly great horror parody, and what films SHOULD you check out? Racheld drops some truly mind blowing trivia about the original scary movie, and we debate what's maybe the most important question, do the Wayans brothers actually LIKE horror movies? Scary Movie (AKA Scary Movie 6) is an upcoming American horror-parody film directed by Michael Tiddes and written by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Craig Wayans, and Rick Alvarez. It is the sixth installment in the Scary Movie film series, following Scary Movie 5 (2013), and the spiritual sequel to the first two films. It stars Marlon, Shawn, and other returning actors including Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, Dave Sheridan, Lochlyn Munro, Jon Abrahams, and Anthony Anderson. The plot follows Cindy Campbell and her friends Ray Wilkins and siblings Shorty and Brenda Meeks reunited when the same masked killer from the first film resurfaces. Learn more about your ad choices. UNEQUAL SEQUEL - BONUS REVIEW EPISODE- SCARY MOVIE (2026) ~ This week on Unequal Sequel, we're heading back to the world of ridiculous spoofs, chaotic pop culture references and jokes that absolutely should not work with Scary Movie (2026) — the return of the parody franchise after years away. After taking aim at horror films, celebrity culture and literally anything happening at the cinema, we're asking whether Scary Movie still has something to say in a world where films sometimes parody themselves. Does this sequel recapture the anarchic energy of the originals, or does it arrive years too late to the joke? We dive into the action, the legacy of modern Star Wars, and whether this latest chapter proves there's still life in the franchise. On a side note we do dive in spoilers but it's very clear when that happens because we do give out a big warning. So if you don't want it spoiled then stay clear of this episode.

Jose is out, so the boys assemble as the discount podcast Avengers and immediately start arguing over Marvel names, summer songs, Florida Man beer, and whether adults should know how to walk through an airport without doing the awkward sidewalk tango. The 2000s comedy bracket rolls on with Pineapple Express, Role Models, Anchorman, and Scary Movie on the chopping block, rapid fire gets way too personal with MmmBop sex music, tramp stamps, strip club buffets, movie theater hookups, fake boobs, and morning wood, and Kevin's dad tip somehow turns into teaching your kids life skills, mowing the lawn, air fryer chicken thighs, and the birth of the Air Fryer Boys.

For episode 294, I'm joined once again by my co-host Myles Hughes, with producer Steve Prusakowski working behind the scenes on Emmy season content and, of course, TV Topics. This time around, we're beginning the conversation about Steven Spielberg's Disclosure Day. My rave review can be found here, and we talk a bit about my Spielberg movie ranking to be published on Friday, but this is just the start of our chat here. Next week, we'll get deeper into it, so prepare for at least light spoilers then. Myles has caught up with Masters of the Universe (my review is here) and Mortal Kombat II (reviewed here), so we discuss those, as well as Backrooms, which I've caught up on and reviewed here. Plus, I've seen Scary Movie (reviewed here), so that leads to a section on spoof movies. There's also some brief Tribeca talk, centered on In Memoriam, which I raved about here. Throw in a few of your questions and it's a rather focused episode...As always my friends and faithful listeners/readers, I do hope you all enjoy the latest episode of the Awards Radar Podcast, our 294th one to date (here's to many more). Of course, feel free to revisit the previous installments by clicking the Podcast tab (here) on the top of the page. Plus, listen to us on Apple Podcasts (iTunes), Spotify, and other platforms. More to come each and every single week, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you for listening!

STILL FUNNY WITHOUT THE WAYANS BROS?! Scary Movie 4 Full Length Watch Alongs & Early Access: / thereelrejects Support The Channel By Getting Some REEL REJECTS Apparrel! https://www.rejectnationshop.com/ Greg Alba & Jackie Bonsignore react to Scary Movie 4, the outrageous horror-comedy sequel that spoofs Saw, The Grudge, War of the Worlds, The Village, and more. Starring Anna Faris as Cindy Campbell and Regina Hall as Brenda Meeks, this entry might be the most chaotic and joke-packed movie in the entire franchise. We react to the legendary Saw opening with Shaquille O'Neal and Dr. Phil, Brenda's hilarious return, the Grudge parody, the alien invasion storyline inspired by War of the Worlds, the Tom Cruise & Oprah spoof, the Village twists, and some of the wildest visual gags the series ever attempted. Greg & Jackie also discuss why this one feels stronger than some of the previous sequels and why Regina Hall continues to be one of the franchise's secret weapons. The film stars Anna Faris (The House Bunny, Mom) as Cindy Campbell, Regina Hall (Girls Trip, The Best Man) as Brenda Meeks, Craig Bierko (Cinderella Man, Boston Legal) as Tom Ryan, Leslie Nielsen (Airplane!, The Naked Gun) as President Harris, Bill Pullman (Independence Day, While You Were Sleeping) as Henry Hale, and features memorable appearances from Shaquille O'Neal, Dr. Phil, Michael Madsen, Molly Shannon, Carmen Electra, and more. James Cameron-Wilson found #1, the horror spoof Scary Movie shouty and exhausting, emerging despairing for humanity. The brief trailer, however, is quite funny. #13 Savage House feels like a Jacobean tragedy but is an original, supposedly a satire on our own times. Starring Richard E. Grant and Claire Foy, it's supposedly a black comedy but the tone left James depressed. It is well made, with excellent production values, but while grotesque, it is not funny. However, he does recommend Remarkably Bright Creatures on Netflix. Starring Sally Fields, who is on excellent form in her 80th year, it is a funny, touching movie set in an aquarium, with Alfred Molina voicing a wise octopus. Set in a timeless backwater full of eccentrics it has real heart and is frequently very funny. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

With the introduction of some new characters and new spoofs, the audience is taken on a journey to find who the killer is before it's too late. Review of Scary Movie 6 Scary movie 6 being released after the longest gap in the franchise with the return of the Wayans brothers was promising a lot, I'm not quite sure if we got all that was promised The movie does deliver with with multiple parodies of more recent popular horror films like the substance, weapons, smile and a lot more but some jokes fell more flat than others I find it really hard to give a score to a comedy as it is often super subjective and I'm just not into the scary movie franchise all that much, not really my kind of comedy It wasn't a miserable experience and just for the nostalgia I'm sure there are plenty of people that liked this film but for me it was a major miss There were plenty of bits/points that I found funny but more that weren't than were Score 4/10

"Scary Movie 6" starring Anna Faris and Regina Hall released just days ago to a massive box office overhaul, continuing Paramount Pictures' streak of franchise hits after "Scream 7." In this episode, Ryan reviews "Scary Movie 6" with producer TJ Jones, Josh Carr, Anthony Dapuzzo, and Jess Melendez. Ryan discusses the bold statement the Wayans Brothers make with the ending of this movie about embracing the original characters rather than the requel replacements, a concept that has been widely discussed in relation to the SCREAM franchise since "Scream VI." In addition, Ryan explains his point of view as to why the Wayans spoofed the exact narrative structure of "Scream" (2022) to undercut the message of the Radio Silence era with their own statement about how they view their franchise. Then, Ashley joins Ryan to for "Drop Dead" by Olivia Rodrigo as the song of the week ahead of the release of her new album, "You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So In Love," this Friday. Lance Taylor and Tyler Johns are back with another episode of The Next Reel, and this time they are taking on one of the best debates in movie fandom: what movies did critics get completely wrong? Before getting to their Top 5 lists of movies critics hated but they personally love, Lance and Tyler recap everything they watched recently, including classic films, thrillers, horror, comedies, reboots, franchise movies, box office surprises, and nostalgic favorites. This episode covers everything from classic Clint Eastwood crime thrillers like Dirty Harry and Magnum Force, to the tense Nicole Kidman thriller Dead Calm, the disappointing return of Scary Movie 6, the messy Masters of the Universe reboot, and a theatrical rewatch of The Backrooms. Lance and Tyler also break down the massive box office success of Obsession, a low-budget film that exploded into a nearly $200 million phenomenon, and compare its word-of-mouth success to some of the biggest movie surprises of all time. Then, the guys dive into the main event: a spoiler-safe countdown of their favorite movies that received harsh reviews, low critic scores, or poor Rotten Tomatoes ratings — but still deserve love from real movie fans. Are critics too harsh on certain genres? Do comedy, action, nostalgia, and crowd-pleasing blockbusters get unfairly dismissed? And are there some so-called “bad movies” that are actually great? If you love movie reviews, film podcasts, Rotten Tomatoes debates, underrated movies, cult classics, rewatchable films, nostalgic favorites, bad reviews vs audience scores, and passionate arguments about the movies critics got wrong, this episode of The Next Reel is for you. Drop your favorite movie that critics hated but you still love in the comments. Did Rotten Tomatoes get it wrong? Are critics out of touch? Or are some movies just more fun than their reviews suggest?
