The Munsons are thrilled to welcome back guest Munson Mike Van de Voort for a celebration of one of modern comedy's most recognizable stars: Anna Faris. We trace Faris's path from children's theater in Washington to the audition that changed her life, when she used her mother's airline miles to fly to Los Angeles and land the role of Cindy Campbell in Scary Movie. That leap launched a billion-dollar franchise and a career built on fearless timing, strange voices, committed physical comedy, and an uncanny ability to remain the grounded center of total absurdity. Along the way, Mike shares a spectacularly uncomfortable childhood experience watching Scary Movie, we debate whether Waiting… is a disgusting masterpiece or simply a restaurant-industry documentary, defend Brokeback Mountain from the cultural shorthand that has followed it for two decades, and discover that The House Bunny may be Faris's true movie-star performance. We also explore her natural fit for voice acting, her chemistry with Allison Janney on Mom, Case's increasingly convincing Goldie Hawn comparison, and a filmography that critics often dismiss even as its modest budgets and enormous returns make Faris one of the strongest financial performers we've covered. We're also forced to confront Mama's Boy and the cinematic crime scene known as Movie 43 before finding an Anna Faris performance Aubrey loves inside a romantic comedy he absolutely hates. Is Faris an underrated comedic star whose projects never fully showcased her range, or did she simply find the profitable entertainment lane that suited her best? How does she rank on the Munson Meter? Listen to find out.

Firmado: JJ

Holy crap are we loaded with stuff this morning! In the news, a recall on a popular fruit puree, the results of an independent autopsy on Nolan Wells, a deadly shooting in Madison, a garbage truck in Milwaukee explodes, William Shatner and his daughter reveal their recent battles with cancer, the wreckage of a Pan Am plane is located 74 years after it crashed, and wild video of a leopard attacking a shop owner in India! We talked about what's on TV & streaming today/tonight. Plus, Elon Musk is apparently making his own version of "The Odyssey" that will allegedly be more historically accurate than the Christopher Nolan version that's currently in theaters. Conan O'Brien explains what happened to his hair after recent pics of him went viral, a sequel to "Days of Thunder" is in the works, and the Ghostface from the "Scary Movie" franchise launches an OnlyFans account. Great story about a teen driver who trusted his gut & checked on a car in a ditch…which led to him possibly saving a woman's life! As we always do on Thursday mornings, we asked each other Hypothetical questions…and Brian's question for Jean was: "If you could only listen to music with one form of media for the rest of your life, what would it be? Tapes/Records/CDs/MP3s" While Jean's question for Brian was: " " Elsewhere in sports, Sophie Cunningham clarifies her statements on trans athletes, Charlie Woods gets interrupted in his backswing, the latest on the Cubs fan who slapped another fan when they refused to stand for the National anthem, an American cyclist gets brake-checked by a car before a stage at the Tour de France, and an update on the Puka Nacua bite allegations. Office Cora joined us just after 8am to talk about what she's up to this weekend in the 715 and to recap her time at Rock Fest last weekend. And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a family in Alaska that were cleaning out a dead relatives house & found human remains in a freezer, an alligator that was blocking a family's front door, a roller coaster in Ecuador that tossed a passenger, a guy who got arrested for stealing a bunch of vodka & Bacon, a Great White shark that was swimming extremely close to some kids in the ocean, and a bear that hilarious got trapped in an SUV and wouldn't stop honking the horn.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

They should make more Star Wars movies. And by “they”, I guess I mean “whoever the fuck feels like it”. Hey it can't be any worse than Rise of Skywalker, can it? Well, I thought that movie was decent. So it probably can be worse than that. Scary Movie was worse than it. So it stands to reason that other things could be as well. I'm guessing that being one of those guys who shows up to the ER saying he slipped and fell on a barbie doll in the shower and it went all the way up his ass and he can't get it out is worse than Episode 9, also, from what I have read in various journals and documents. Speaking of which, I have to go work on some documents right now! Ah, I'd love to talk more about this or anything else but I simply don't have the time. Documents await! The Fourth of July gave us more material than we could've written ourselves. This week, DJ and Kelly break down the unbelievable Independence Day celebrations that felt straight out of a satire, share behind-the-scenes stories from Kelly's birthday week, debate whether Supergirl is getting unfairly trashed online, and review Young Washington, Leviticus, and the painfully unfunny Scary Movie 6. They also discuss a woman leaving America to move to Afghanistan for a man she met on Snapchat, why public behavior seems to be getting more unhinged, disastrous flight delays, sneaking snacks into movie theaters, and how a dog with a taste for coconut oil created an unforgettable night. Pieces (1982) Director: Juan Piquer Simón Cast: Christopher George, Lynda Day George, Paul L. Smith, Ian SeraIf you've ever wanted to watch a chainsaw-wielding maniac assemble a human jigsaw puzzle on a Boston college campus while the cops shrug and grab a Baconator — brother, have we got a movie for you. This week on Dewey Pod Monster, we're diving headfirst into Pieces (1982), the Spanish-shot, American-set slasher that somehow makes police incompetence, waterbed murders, and a random Bruce Lee cameo feel like a completely coherent cinematic experience. It is not. And that is exactly why we love it.In this episode, we discuss:"We Don't Have Enough Evidence" — The cops in this movie find a guy standing over vacuum-sealed body parts holding a blood-soaked chainsaw and still let him walk. We spend an embarrassing amount of time screaming about the jaw-dropping investigative ineptitude on display throughout the entire film. The Least Sexy Nudie Puzzle — From Little Timmy getting revenge on his mother in the first three minutes to the film's gloriously unhinged finale involving a reanimated corpse and a crotch grab, we break down why Pieces commits completely to its own deranged logic and why that's actually kind of beautiful.Had Me, Then You Lost Me — We debate the ending. Hard. One of us thinks the ball-grab freeze frame is a bridge too far. The other thinks you don't get to complain about subtlety in a movie where someone hides a running chainsaw behind their back in a two-person elevator. You'll have to listen to find out who's who.The Random Karate Professor Problem — Bruce Lee (not that Bruce Lee) shows up out of nowhere, does karate at Lynda Day George, says something about bad chop suey, and disappears forever. We explain how this actually happened and why the director thought it fit the movie "perfectly." He was wrong. It's also perfect. We Also Talked About:Enemies of the People (2009) (Youtube) — A deeply affecting documentary about the Khmer Rouge genocide in Cambodia, told through the filmmaker's personal quest to confront the people who murdered his family. Heavy watch. Essential.Untold UK: Vinnie Jones (Netflix) — John refuses to look at Vinnie Jones. Sean watched it anyway. We get into it.Racquet (1979) (Fawesome) — Lynda Day George shows up in not one but TWO tennis movies. Her on-screen tennis skills remain aggressively unconvincing in both.Beavis and Butt-Head (Latest Season) (Amazon) — John checks in on America's favorite degenerates and reports back. Some things never change, and thank god for that.Scary Movie (2000) (Pluto.tv) — The original. The blueprint. The Digger trailer finally dropped — and we are NOT impressed. Dylan and Craig break down why Tom Cruise's long-awaited political satire from Alejandro González Iñárritu feels more like Scary Movie than Dr. Strangelove, and what it means for the Oscar race. Then: our way-too-early Best Director predictions for the 2027 Academy Awards. Who makes the cut? Christopher Nolan (The Odyssey), Denis Villeneuve (Dune 3), Iñárritu himself, Pavel Pawlikowski (Fatherland), Jesse Eisenberg, Martin McDonagh (Wild Horse Nine), and a bold Olivia Wilde pick that Dylan and Craig disagree on. Plus: Penélope Cruz could run Oscar campaigns for THREE films this year, the Michael biopic's jaw-dropping critic/audience score gulf, and why Luca Guadagnino's Sam Altman biopic Artificial may never get a wide release. Films discussed: Digger, The Odyssey, Dune 3, Fatherland, Wild Horse Nine, The Black Ball, Artificial, Michael, Being Human, Prima Facie, Bunker, The Social Reckoning, Cold War, Roma, Birdman, The Revenant, Eyes Wide Shut, Tropic Thunder.#Oscars #BestDirector #TomCruise #Digger #OscarsOutsider

After a short break, DJ & Kelly are back—and kicking off a brand new era of Locked & Probably Loaded. This week, we catch up on everything that's happened while we were away, including Kelly's birthday celebration at the legendary Magic Castle, where one impossible illusion left us questioning reality (seriously... where did that goose come from?). Kelly's brother Scott joins us to tell the unbelievable story of accidentally getting turned away at the Magic Castle because of the dress code, leading to a frantic Hollywood scooter adventure, an emergency wardrobe change, and one very memorable entrance. We also review every movie we've seen since DJ got his Regal Unlimited pass, including Backrooms, Masters of the Universe, The Sheep Detectives, I Love Boosters, Disclosure Day, Stop That Train, Obsession, and Scary Movie 6. Which movies surprised us? Which ones were worth the hype? And which one earned our brand-new "Y'all Shouldn't Have Done That" award? Plus, we rant about shrinkflation, sunscreen getting smaller and more expensive, Magic Castle etiquette, internet disasters while recording remotely, aphantasia, movie theater obsession, and plenty of the completely unqualified conversations you'd expect from us. 1992's Universal Soldier marked the first collaboration between stars Jean Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren. The action titans play Vietnam soldiers resurrected 20 years after the war as bio-engineered killing machines with very different agendas. It was also the first big Hollywood movie helmed but Roland Emmerich, who, based on the commercial success of this film would go on to make some the most successful movies (Independence Day, Stargate, The Patriot) in history. Dan and Vicky discuss the sc-fi action hybrid along with lots of recently seen items like Scary Movie 2026, Toy Story 5, The Furious, and the Death of Robin Hood. Sometimes the biggest business lessons come from unexpected places. In this episode, Travis Chappell and Eric use the new Scary Movie film as a jumping-off point to discuss creativity, ownership, revenge, and resilience. What starts as a humorous movie review evolves into a thoughtful conversation about the Wayans brothers losing control of the Scary Movie franchise, why some battles aren't worth fighting, and how successful entrepreneurs redirect their energy toward building instead of bitterness. On this episode we talk about: Why the Scary Movie franchise became a surprising box office success. The Wayans brothers' experience losing the rights to the franchise they created. Why focusing on new opportunities often beats fighting over the past. How choosing peace over revenge can lead to greater long-term success. The importance of directing your energy toward creating rather than dwelling on setbacks. Top 3 Takeaways Not every battle is worth fighting. Sometimes the greatest win is moving on and investing your energy into building something new. Great creators don't depend on one successful project—they continue creating value, even after setbacks. Bitterness is expensive. Protecting your peace and focusing on what you can control often produces better personal and financial outcomes. Notable Quotes "Not every battle is worth fighting." "Life is your revenge." "Money only solves your money problems, but it's easier to solve the rest of your problems with money in the bank." The Devil's Ledger — Week of June 30, 2026 This week on The Devil's Ledger, we celebrate the spirit of the 2026 FIFA World Cup as the United States, Canada, and Mexico continue welcoming the world with open arms. Amid months of political division, it's been refreshing to see communities across North America reminding us why sports have a unique way of bringing people together. From packed stadiums to neighborhood watch parties, hospitality has taken center stage—and yes, maybe ranch dressing deserves a little credit too. We begin, as always, with The Creepiest Thing I Heard This Week. This week we travel to Montreal's historic Griffintown, where ghost hunters, historians, and curious locals gathered on June 27 to await the legendary return of Headless Mary Gallagher. Murdered and decapitated in 1879, local folklore claims Mary's spirit returns every seven years on the anniversary of her death, wandering the streets in search of the head she lost nearly 150 years ago. Whether you believe in ghosts or not, it's a haunting reminder that some stories refuse to die. On The Devil Within, our Campfire Files series continues with one of our most believable paranormal stories yet. Four college friends rent an Airbnb cabin for a relaxing weekend in the mountains and discover what appears to be an ordinary board game left behind by a previous guest. The only problem? It's a Ouija Board. What begins as harmless curiosity slowly transforms into something unsettling, proving that sometimes the scariest stories aren't the loudest—they're the ones that feel like they could happen to anyone. On Criminal Mischief, Carolyn Ossorio is keeping this week's case a complete secret. Is she racing to meet another impossible deadline? Or has she uncovered a story so disturbing she wants listeners to experience it with fresh ears? We honestly don't know—but knowing Carolyn, it could very well be both. Tune in and find out. On The Slippery, Scott Eldridge and Nancy Moscatiello unravel the extraordinary story of Gaurav Srivastava, a man who convinced world leaders, celebrities, and business executives that he had been recruited by the CIA as a teenager. His elaborate intelligence persona opened doors across the global oil industry—until investigators began asking difficult questions. It's a remarkable story of deception, influence, and one of the most audacious confidence schemes in recent memory. On Forever Young, Dr. John Layke and Dr. Payman Danielpour explore the rapidly evolving world of regenerative medicine, separating science from hype as they discuss how stem cell therapies may reshape healthcare in the years ahead. If you're interested in living healthier and longer, this is an episode you won't want to miss. Finally, in This Week in Horror, we revisit the return of Scary Movie. More than twenty years after the original became a comedy phenomenon, the franchise is back with another round of outrageous horror parody, proving that even today's most terrifying films aren't safe from a good laugh.
