Wie bereits in der letzten Folge ziehen wir ein Fazit über ein Produkt, dass wir seit Jahren immer wieder bei unseren Premium-Projekten verbauen. In der letzten Folge haben wir die Strömungspumpe von Sicce, genauer gesagt, die SDC 8500 kritisch unter die Lupe genommen. Wenn du die Folge noch nicht gehört hast, findest du den Link zur Folge in der Podcastbeschreibung. Diesmal geht es um eine Rückförderpumpe, die wir in der Regel immer nehmen, wenn sich das Technikbecken im Keller befindet und große Förderhöhen zuverlässig überwunden werden müssen. Die Deltec E-Flow 16  24 Volt. Und jetzt ziehen wir ein Fazit. In der Zwischenzeit haben wir doch einige Pumpen dieser Art verbaut und  ziehen in dieser Folge ein Fazit über die Stärken und Schwächen dieser Pumpe, die wir in den letzten Jahren so erlebt haben. Bevor wir einsteigen, möchte ich die Pumpe noch kurz vorstellen.  Hierbei möchte ich betonen, dass diese Folge weder von Deltec gesponsert wurde oder ich sonstige Vorteile durch Deltec  habe.  Dies stellt lediglich meine Meinung bzw. meine Erfahrung dar. Deltec entwickelt und fertigt nach eigenen Aussagen seit über 30 Jahren Produkte für die Aquaristik. Ich baue diese Pumpe, wie bereits erwähnt, immer dann gerne ein, wenn sich die Filtertechnik im Keller befindet und dadurch große Förderhöhen bewältigt werden müssen. Für diesen Einsatz ist die Deltec E-Flow 16 perfekt geeignet, da sie große Förderhöhen problemlos überwindet und aufgrund ihrer Leistungsstärke für eine ausreichende Wasserumwälzung bzw. Filterung sorgt. So kommen bei einer Förderhöhe von zum Beispiel 4 Metern immer noch cirka 8000 Liter pro Stunde im Aquarium an.  Die maximale Leistung der Deltec E-Flow 16  liegt bei 14.000 L pro Stunde. Aber lass uns die Deltec E-Flow 16 im Detail anschauen. Bei der Pumpe handelt es sich um eine leistungsfähige Pumpe mit 24 Volt Niederspannung. Durch die Sinuswellensteuerung ist die Deltec E-Flow 16 absolut leise im Betrieb und kann dadurch auch perfekt im Wohnraum eingesetzt werden. Ich kenne derzeit keine vergleichbare Pumpe, die so leistungsstark und gleichzeitig so leise ist. Der Grund für die geringe Lautstärke liegt an der Sinuswellensteuerung. Die Pumpe ist für Süß- und Meerwasser geeignet und kann sowohl unter Wasser, das heißt im Technikbecken, als auch außerhalb des Technikbecken verwendet werden. Die Pumpe ist serienmäßig mit einem Controller ausgestattet, der sich schnell und einfach an der Wand montieren lässt. Über diesen Controller kann die Pumpe perfekt in 10 Schritten von 0 – 180 Watt geregelt werden. Durch die kleinteilige Einstellmöglichkeit ist eine perfekte Abstimmung der gewünschten Fördermenge möglich, was sich besonders bei längeren Rohrstrecken vom Keller zum Aquarium auszahlt.  Denn bei solchen Installationen ist nicht nur die Rohrleitung länger als wenn sich die Rückförderpumpe direkt im Technikbecken unter dem Aquarium befindet, sondern es sind bei solchen Rohrleitungen zwangsläufig häufig viele PVC-Bögen verbaut, die am Schluß immer Förderleistung kosten.  Nicht regulierbare Pumpen sind hier dann schnell zu schwach oder auch zu stark.  Beides ist nicht von Vorteil. Schauen wir uns im nächsten Punkt den Stromverbrauch an, der ja im Hinblick auf die steigenden Strompreise immer wichtiger wird. Wie gesagt kannst du die Pumpe von null bis 180 Watt in 10 Watt Schritten einstellen. Das bedeutet, dass die Pumpe in der Spitze 180 Watt verbraucht. Wenn man die hohe Leistungsfähigkeit der Pumpe in das Verhältnis zum Stromverbrauch setzt, ist die Pumpe sehr sparsam im Stromverbrauch. Kommen wir im nächsten Punkt zu den Anschlüssen. Der Durchmesser der PVC-Verschraubung im Ansaugbereich liegt bei 50 mm und im Pumpenausgang bei 40 mm. Die Trägerplatte der Pumpe steht auf weichen Gummifüßen und ist somit perfekt schallentkoppelt. Zur Reinigung der Antriebseinheit lassen sich die Hutmuttern am Pumpengehäuse leicht entfernen, so dass die Antriebseinheit schnell und einfach ein- und ausgebaut werden kann. Die E-Flow 16 ist absolut wartungsarm und zeigt sich im laufenden Betrieb als absolut robust und zuverlässig. Wie bereits erwähnt ist die Pumpe nahezu geräuschlos, was ein weiterer großer Vorteil ist. Auch wenn wir die Pumpe in der Regel immer im Technikkeller verbauen, ist es für den Kunden und für uns wesentlich angenehmer, wenn es auch hier so leise wie möglich ist.  Denn es gibt auch Pumpenhersteller, die man noch durch die geschlossene Türe des Technikraums hört.  Doch was kostet nun die Deltec E-Flow 16?  Die Deltec E-Flow 16 kostet im Schnitt rund € 1100,00. Wenn man die hohe Qualität der Pumpe, die Langlebigkeit und die absolute Laufruhe zugrunde legt, ist das ein absolut fairer Preis. Kommen wir nun, wie angekündigt,  zu den Schwächen der Deltec E-Flow 16. Ich habe in den letzten Jahren die Pumpe regelmäßig verbaut.  Bei Becken bei denen die Rückförderleistung aufgrund der bauseitig vorhandenen Förderhöhe zu gering war, haben wir sogar mehrere Pumpen eingebaut. In all den Jahren, die wir jetzt diese Pumpe verbaut haben, hatten wir ein einziges Mal ein Problem mit einer Antriebseinheit. Dieses Problem wurde sehr schnell und kulant von Deltec gelöst, ohne Diskussion und ohne Gezeter. Und auch das ist viel Wert. Denn es kommt immer wieder vor, dass Hersteller in Fällen, in denen einfach nur schneller Service gefragt ist, sinnlos diskutieren und nicht in die Pötte kommen. Wenn ich ehrlich bin, kann ich keine einzige Schwäche bei der Deltec E-Flow 16 finden.  Wem die E-Flow 16 zu stark ist, dem stehen noch 4 kleinere Varianten zur Auswahl. Die Regelung erfolgt bei den Modellen 4,8, 10,12 ebenfalls über den Deltec Controller. Die kleineren Modelle können in 5 Watt Schritten von 0 - 130 Watt geregelt werden. Zudem besitzen die Pumpen eine 0-10V Schnittstelle. Abgerundet wird das Ganze wie schon erwähnt durch den schnellen und unkomplizierten Service, den Deltec bietet. Vor rund drei Jahren kam die neue Strömungspumpe von Sicce auf den Markt. Die Sicce xStream SDC 8500.  Und jetzt ist es Zeit ein Fazit zu ziehen. In der Zwischenzeit haben wir einige hundert Stück bei unseren Projekten verbaut und ziehen in dieser Folge ein Fazit über die Stärken und Schwächen dieser Pumpe die wir in den letzten drei Jahren so erlebt haben. Bevor wir einsteigen möchte ich die Pumpe noch kurz vorstellen.  Hierbei ist möchte ich betonen dass diese Folge weder von Sicce gesponsert wurde oder ich sonstige Vorteile durch Sicce habe. Die Sicce SDC ist eine sehr kleine und kompakte Strömungspumpe die sich aufgrund ihrer Größe und ihrer 3 D Magnethalterung sehr gut im Riffaufbau einbauen und verstecken lässt.  Die Pumpe ist lediglich 94 mm lang und 50 Millimeter breit. Der knapp 50 mm breite Auslass der Pumpe ermöglicht eine breite und sanfte Strömung. Die Abstände der Ansaugitter sind großzügig gewählt und dadurch auch sehr leicht, wie bereits beim Vorgängermodell, zu reinigen. Die Magnethalterung hält gut an Scheiben bis zu einer Glasstärke von 15 mm.  Werden die im Lieferumfang enthaltenen Gummiunterlage zur Schallentkopplung an der Scheibe verwendet, verliert das Magnet deutlich an Haltekraft, so dass es am Schluss nur noch bis 12mm Glasstärke vernünftig hält.  Die Strömungsleistung kann zwischen 1000-8500 Liter pro Stunde eingestellt werden. Der Stromverbrauch liegt bei 12 W und ist dadurch sehr sparsam. Die Pumpe kann im Dauerbetrieb oder über eines der fünf voreingestellten Programme betrieben werden. Wir selbst nutzen in der Regel alle Pumpen im Dauerbetrieb. Wem das nicht reicht, der kann sich selbst noch ein eigenes individuelles Strömungsbild einstellen. Natürlich verfügt die Strömungspumpe auch über eine sogenannte Futterpause und einen ECO Modus für die Nacht, in der sich die Strömungsleistung automatisch reduziert. Im laufenden Betrieb ist die Sicce XStream SDC 8500 sehr leise und überzeugt durch die Vielzahl der verschiedenen Strömungsbilder. Die Steuerung der Pumpe kann über den Controller oder auch über die App erfolgen, da die Pumpe WLAN-fähig ist und in das hauseigene WLAN Netz eingebunden werden kann.  Der Controller der SDC ist wesentlich besser als der Vorgänger der xtream e und fällt bei weitem nicht mehr so häufig aus. Die kostenlose App gibt es sowohl für IOS als auch Android Die Pumpe verfügt über einen Trockenlaufschutz um Schäden frühzeitig zu vermeiden. Im Lieferumfang  ist ein Kabelschutz enthalten, der das Stromkabel der Pumpe vor Bissschäden von Seeigel, Kugelfischen usw. schützt. Neben den genannten Features verfügt die Pumpe zusätzlich über einen Temperaturfühler, der permanent die Wassertemperatur misst und diese auch in der App anzeigt. Doch leider kommt es immer wieder vor, dass aberwitzige Temperaturen übermittelt werden, die diese Funktion dann nicht besonders vertrauenswürdig und hilfreich macht. Der nächste große Vorteil den die App bietet, ist ein Alarm, wenn es zu einer Blockade des Flügelrads oder einem Stromausfall kommt. Durch diese 24 Stunden Überwachung in Echtzeit fallen einige Risikofaktoren weg, die Meerwasseraquarien immer wieder bedrohen. Eine weitere durchaus sinnvolle und wichtige Innovation ist, dass an dem Controller der Pumpe für den Fall eines Stromausfalls Notfallakkus angebracht werden können. Dieser zusätzliche Akkupack bestehend aus drei 3,7 V Lithium Batterien. Diese werden automatisch während des laufenden Betriebs am Controller aufgeladen und sorgen dafür, dass im Falle eines Stromausfalls die Pumpen bis zu 5 Stunden weiterlaufen. Der Akkupack ist nicht im Lieferumfang enthalten. Die Pumpe verfügt über eine Garantie von drei Jahren, die sich nochmals um zwei Jahre verlängert, wenn man die Pumpe bei Sicce registriert. Grundsätzlich hat man sich einiges bei der Entwicklung der Sicce xStream SDC 8500 überlegt und gut umgesetzt. Jedoch hat die Pumpe auch ihre Schwächen im täglichen Betrieb. Kommen wir deshalb im nächsten Schritt zu den Nachteilen der Sicce xStream SDC 8500, die wir so im Laufe der Jahre festgestellt haben. Wir stellen immer wieder bei unseren Wartungen fest, dass einzelne Pumpen nach dem Einstecken beim Wasserwechsel rückwärts laufen und dann anstelle einer Strömung einen Sog produzieren.  Das ist ein Thema das mich persönlich ziemlich nervt, da hier dann ein Teil der Gesamtströmungsleistung im Becken wegbricht. Auch das Umdrehen des Stromsteckers nützt dann meistens nichts und die Pumpe muss ausgetauscht werden. Ein weiterer Punkt der auffällig ist, dass die Sicce xStream SDC 8500 im Laufe der Zeit unverhältnismäßig an Leistung verliert und dann die Antriebseinheit ausgetauscht werden muss. In der Regel tauschen wir zwei mal pro Jahr die Antriebseinheit der Pumpen bei unseren Kunden aus. Im Vergleich zu anderen Strömungspumpen die wir nutzen ist der Wartungsaufwand der Sicce xStream SDC 8500 etwas höher, da sie schneller Leistungsverluste bei leichten Verschmutzungen zeigt. Das bedeutet, dass die Antriebseinheit öfters ausgebaut und gereinigt werden muss.  Ebenso wäre leistungsstärkere Variante mit mehr als 8500 Litern pro Stunde für größere Meerwasserbecken wünschenswert. Diese wurde immer wieder angekündigt, ist aber zum Erscheinen dieser Folge noch nicht am Markt. Mein Fazit zur Sicce xStream SDC 8500: Die Sicce xStream SDC 8500 ist aufgrund ihrer Baugröße, den vorinstallierten Programmen und dem geringen Stromverbrauch sehr interessant.  Störend ist aber der höhere Wartungsaufwand, dass die Pumpen nach dem Einstecken teilweise rückwärts anlaufen und der Leistungsverlust der Strömungsleistung. Wenn Sicce es schafft künftig diese Themen zu lösen gehört sie sicher zu den  besten Pumpen am Markt.  Lassen wir uns überraschen, ob sich Sicce bewegt. Effective November 1 of this year Red Sea USA will allow local fish stores to submit their orders for Red Seas's popular line of all-in-one-aquariums directly to Red Sea. The new fish is a longfin version of the very popular Snow Storm Clownfish. As Manny aquarists know, longfin clownfish are not new to the hobby, but Sea & Reef's new Longfin Clownfish have a much different look to them. Their longfin clownfish have long flowing fins with a rounded, more even outlines. This sets them apart from the typical longfin strain that display jagged, stiff fins with uneven edges that are often observed. Coral aquaculture is ever increasing around the world for reef restoration and the hobby. The effort to minimize the impact of coral predators, pathogens and parasites is necessary for optimal growth. We are going to discuss the Acropora coral-eating polyclad flatworm (AEFW), which feeds on wild and cultivated Acropora species. Recent studies have found the presence of AEFW in wild Acropora colonies, new studies are taking place on the possible affects. The inadvertent introduction of this pest into our reef tanks can lead to the rapid death of coral colonies. We will discuss treatment of infested corals, the flatworm's life cycle, how to disrupt said life cycle, and how temperature can affect your treatment plan. The broodstock pairing attempts started in 2017 with one successful pair, then additional potential broodfish were obtained in 2018. Currently, there are four bonded pairs of copperband butterflyfish at IRREC. One pair (henceforth referred to as Pair A), consisting of the largest-sized individuals, is spawning consistently. Another pair has spawned a few infertile eggs but is not consistently spawning yet. Two other pairs may not be sexually mature yet. While the answer to how many coral species are there? is Googleable', until now scientists didn't know how many individual coral colonies there are in the world. In the Pacific, we estimate there are roughly half a trillion corals, said the study lead author, Dr Andy Dietzel from the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies at James Cook University (Coral CoE at JCU). This is about the same number of trees in the Amazon, or birds in the world. Lesser known, however, are Brazil's tropical marine fishes; this is mostly because prior regulations kept some species entirely out of the aquarium trade, while others were readily available from other Caribbean sources. In the new policy, Brazil has created several common-sense processes for allowing the commercial exploitation of species that might otherwise not be permitted. This includes those that have yet to be formally described (mainly a problem with freshwater species), but also those that might otherwise exist on a red list of species that by default are not allowed for commercial collection and export, through a series of individual evaluations. Captive breeding also has prominent support in the new rules, and may be another pathway to market for species that would not otherwise be allowed for export. The small team and other volunteers have planted more than 9,000 corals over about 600 square metres in the past year. Within five years, they hope to cover 300,000 square metres with 1.5 million corals. He also started RadReefs last year which is a multi vendor coral marketplace. As for the hobby, he has been in it for 3 years now and currently have 3 systems running. A 210 mixed reef DT, his coral system consists of two low boys and a 100g Rubbermaid sump in his shop, and a little IM25 lagoon in his office. He loves the hobby, loves helping folks work through any tech or tank issues. Greg Cholewa- has been around aquariums most of his life. As a child, it was always freshwater. It wasn't until he was stationed over in Okinawa that he fell in love with all things coral reef related. He quickly had 3 tanks while over there, and then a fourth came. He had a mixture of corals, freshwater planted, axolotls, and cichlids. Once coming back stateside, one of the first things he established was a FOWLR as he knew he would be leaving again soon and could not justify a full blown reef. He is currently building out a WaterBox 130.4 that is plumbed to the basement where the sump, frag tank, and water mixing/change station all live and QT stations for coral and fish are also in the works. It has been a long process that is still ongoing. He really enjoys the planning of the build and trying to design everything out to make the easiest to maintain. Outside of equipment and the glass box, He try's to make sure everything else is custom and done by himself. The main focus is trying to have a very successful reef while attempting to keep everything as simple as possible. After 2 years of compiling the most recent and comprehensive data on the fishery, this DEIS shows that the Oahu aquarium fishery has little to no detrimental impact to the environment or Native Hawaiian cultural practices. This DEIS describes scientific data from both state and federal management agencies and also includes a cultural impact assessment that directly engages the Native Hawaiian community. Aquarium fisheries in Hawaii are likely the most sustainable near shore fisheries in the state, and we continue to work with state and federal resource managers to develop additional steps to ensure the resource is healthy for future generations. The over 2000-page EIS had been produced by a group of ten West Hawaii aquarium fishers and the National Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council, on their proposal to ask the DLNR to issue permits to the ten aquarium fishers. The proposed permits themselves were not before the BLNR for decision. The Supreme Court in 2017, in Umberger et. al vs. the Department of Land and Natural Resources, issued a decision requiring for the first time, chapter 343 environmental review for the issuance of permits required to use fine mesh nets for aquarium fishing. No permits have been issued since the 2017 decision, though aquarium fishing using other gear, considered less optimal for aquarium fishing but not regulated under Hawaiian law, continues. The EIS was an applicant-action rather than an agency-action, meaning it was proposed by the aquarium fishers, not the Department. Jamie Craggs and his team at the Horniman Museum & Gardens first successfully spawned and raised Acropora corals in an aquarium environment in 2013. Now this same team has succeeded in spawning the first generation of corals they raised in aquariums. The focus of this successive spawning study producing the world's first F2 generation of aquarium corals was none other than the illustrious Acropora millepora, a widespread, fast growing and very colorful coral. Also, as a really interesting side note, some familiar equipment was used to recreate the environmental marker that induce coral spawning. In particular, Radion LEDs were used. Both of my reef aquariums would get dinoflagellate outbreaks whenever I would make small changes. Corals struggled to grow and thrive while covered in the brown snot. I actually converted my smaller reef aquarium into a freshwater planted system, because it was in a more prominent area of the house, I couldn't stand looking at it. Over the last 5 years, coral nursery operations have expanded exponentially in PR and the VI. The report outlines that 2,368 corals were outplanted from the coral nurseries to 13 different sites. This includes 1,821 Acropora cervicornis (Staghorn Coral), 467 Acropora palmata (Elkhorn Coral), 35 Dendrogyra cylindrus (Pillar Coral) and 10 Xestospongia muta (Giant Barrel Sponge). In addition to outplanting these facilities are conducting genetic analyses of the farmed species. With only a small number of the total samples taken analyzed, the results from 73 samples, 41 different genotypes are present in the nurseries at La Parguera and Guanica. I had heard about this before but never seen footage of what they are doing down in Florida. Becoming part of a living reef after passing is a pretty epic idea, and the location that is featured is creating their own version of Atlantis. The Neptune Memorial Reef is a manmade structure that combines ashes of the deceased with cement that are placed into this underwater city.
