First Exit Podcast for 2023 featuring Fiona Stewart in conversation with Philip Nitschke. The topic is the coming Canadian trial of Kenneth Law a distributor of the lethal legal salt, sodium nitrite. Described by some as a 'serial killer', but by many members of Exit as a savior who provided them with a reliable means for a peaceful death, the trial of Law will be watched closely around the world by supporters of rational suicide and the right to die.. for further details
Guest: Jason Miller, crime and justice reporter An Ontario man is facing two charges of counselling or aiding suicide and, as details emerge, we have learned authorities in other parts of the world are looking into other specific deaths never before questioned. The case centres around sodium nitrite, a substance widely available that can be used to cure meats but can also be lethal. Here's what we know so far about the local case that could have international ramifications. If you are thinking of suicide or know someone who is, there is help. Resources are available online at www.crisisservicescanada.ca or you can connect to the national suicide prevention helpline at 1-833-456-4566, or the Kids Help Phone at 1-800-668-6868. Inhalant Abuse: Understanding the Dangers of Hydrocarbon and Nitrite Inhalation - Hydrocarbon inhalants are substances that are inhaled for their intoxicating effects. They include a wide range of products, such as gasoline, paint thinner, glue, and aerosol sprays. These substances are commonly abused by inhaling the fumes, which can produce a feeling of euphoria and relaxation. However, inhaling hydrocarbon fumes can be extremely dangerous and can lead to a number of negative health effects, including respiratory problems, brain damage, and even death. Additionally, inhaling these substances can also be highly flammable and can lead to fires and explosions. It is important to avoid inhaling hydrocarbon fumes and to seek help if you or someone you know is struggling with addiction to these substances. Additionally we discuss nitrites which are vasodilators and can create a warm rush and sensation of warmth and also can be used as a chemsex drug which can cause anal sphincter relaxation. Side effects can include headaches, hypotension, methaemoglobinaemia and can cause burns if nititres are exposed to a flame.Discussions and comments in our videos are for informational purposes only and should not replace the advice of your medical professional. We're bringing back listener favorite, James McDonald, CWT on the show to talk about Nitrites. Today, he answers listener questions such as: How do you convert Nitrite to Sodium Nitrite? How do you make sure your Nitrite levels are not too high or too low? Does microbiological activity impact nitrite levels? What can cause a reaction in a closed loop system when there's Nitrite involved? What do you need to know before adding a biocide to a system that has Nitrite in it? How can you prevent pitting from happening when you are using Nitrite? What is Nitrite used for? Bottom line: Tune in to learn all about Nitrite from James McDonald. Why is PTSA used? Can PTSA be used in both cooling towers AND Boilers? Why or why not? How about closed loops? What does PTSA stand for? What is a typical dosage of PTSA? How is the concentration of PTSA measured? What can cause PTSA to degrade? Is PTSA compatible with all biocides? Why did PTSA come into more widespread use within the last decade or so? Should other parameters be measured regularly in addition to PTSA or can one rely solely upon the PTSA reading when monitoring product dosage? Quotes “Nitrite can be tested in the field, which is great because not everything can be.” - James McDonald “To convert from Nitrite to Sodium Nitrite, you multiply Nitrite by 1.5; that's a big multiplier. So if you're not talking apples to apples, you're talking apples to oranges, and you may be out of range and not know it.” - James McDonald “Having too low of Nitrite levels can be worse than no Nitrite in the system because of the pitting that can occur.” - James McDonald “Nitrite can be bug food. Do some tests and make a plan.” - James McDonald “Nitrite can get a reaction in a closed loop when adding sulfites and biocides.” - James McDonald Connect with James McDonald Phone: (937) 689-4031 LinkedIn: in/james-mcdonald-pe Websites: industrialwaterscience.com Chemaqua.com Industrial Water Treatment Cartoon: industrialwaterscience.com/fun James McDonald Press Release: Read or download Here Links Mentioned The Rising Tide Mastermind CWT Practice Course from the Scaling UP! Sodium Nitrite [18:20] Dana says: Good morning! I just listened to your episode from 12/23. I have had a long-standing, perplexing question about sodium nitrite/nitrate, and it relates to the recent episode. Since I was 14, I've had a sensitivity to processed meats that contain sodium nitrite/nitrate (ham, lunch meat, salami, hot dogs, etc). It creates a vascular migraine headache with a aura of visual disturbances and sometimes hemiparesis. I can stop the progression with aspirin, so I'm confident it's vascular. The perplexing part, is that it never happens if I eat vegetable high in nitrite/ nitrates, or meats that are cured with celery powder that is high in nitrite/nitrates. Any thoughts on how these are different? 2. High fasted blood glucose/high cholesterol [20:56] Jackie says: Hey there! Long term listener, first time e-mail-er. I've been low carb for the better part of the last 5 years and had some success in maintaining a 40lb weightloss with those eating habits. However, after 2 surrogate pregnancies accompanied with IVF and exogenous hormones over the last 3 years, I'm struggling to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight. Looking for answers I had some labs done, expecting a thyroid issue, to find high fasted glucose levels (99-101) and elevated bilirubin. I'm fine after eating, my glucose sits at about 74-84 2 hours after eating pretty consistently. I'm just not sure why all of a sudden I'm showing poor insulin management in the mornings on an empty stomach? My BMI is 34- which I know isn't ideal and I'm working on it- but after hormones the weight doesn't seem to want to come off. I'm 30 years old. My doctor said “make some lifestyle changes and we'll keep an eye on it.” So much help there! Wondering if that might be attributable to my dis-regulated blood glucose levels. Would appreciate your insight on the matter! Any thoughts as to what I can try to get my blood sugar back to normal before it spirals out of control? I'm debating on a CGM but not sure if it would be of help? Also, my cholesterol came back high at 212. LDL/HDL ratio of 3. Triglycerides are 66. In the low carb world what does this mean, as in the standard medicine world it's not great- not sure if it's the same. Thank you for your time and all the knowledge you bring to optimizing health! You're truly changing the world. 3. Keto Breastfeeding [26:55] Juliana says: Hi Robb and Nikki, I've been listening to your show for about a year now and I love the breadth of topics you cover. I know sometimes you joke that people my age are not interested in what you have to say, but I want to let you know we are very interested. I share your podcast all the time and people my age love it. With my second baby I was diagnosed with GDM and was on my way toward type 2 diabetes post partum. My blood sugar levels were out of control and I kept adding on weight. I found keto and completely changed my life. I lost 40 pounds before getting pregnant with our 3rd baby. With our 3rd baby I was very strict and ate less than 50 carbs/day and had an extremely healthy pregnancy with no GDM this time. I am now 10 weeks post partum of my 3rd baby. After having the 3rd baby I gave myself a ton of freedom (ie any/all carbs). It was a celebration of all my hard work for 2 years. Now at 10 weeks post partum I tried to go back to my very low carb way of eating and within 48 hours I got soo soo soo sick, it very much felt like keto flu. I would like to note that I had an LMNT each day and salt my food generously with redmonds. I got scared because breastfeeding is the most important thing for me. I went back to having carbs to undo the sickness, but I would prefer a low carb way of eating if I could get there. I take magnesium and dessicated liver and vitamin D and LMNT. I also did not restrict calories, I am very familiar with the keto diet and I made sure I had plenty of fat and calories. I'm curious as to what ketosis does to our overall hydration levels and possibly breast milk supply? I know you recommend LMNT for breastfeeding moms, so I was hoping you might have some insight on low carb diets and breastfeeding. I'm willing to suffer through the keto flu but I'm terrified of it hurting my milk supply. I also read that breastfeeding lowers glucose levels and am curious if that may have had an interaction and intensified the keto flu. I forgot to take my morning fasting numbers. I'm a 33 year old female and my weight is totally irrelevant because I just had a baby Thank you for any insight you might have! The fact that many people are actually chronically dehydrated without even realizing it. What surprised Miray the most when she first began tracking herself with Vivoo. Sneaky reasons why you might be experiencing chronic fatigue. The Salt Fix: Why the Experts Got It All Wrong--and How Eating More Might Save Your Life by Dr. James DiNicolantonio The moment Miray realized that she needed more salt in her diet to help her keep her energy up and feel good everyday. No. 1 beverage mistake people are making thinking that soda or juice or coffee is the same as drinking water to be hydrated. Common issues people face when they are chronically dehydrated. LMNT 403 Robb Wolf | Electrolytes: How Sodium, Potassium & Magnesium Help To Beat Brain Fog How Vivoo tracks our pH levels so that you can make adjustments accordingly; especially if you're a vegan or vegetarian. Miray's experience combining Vivoo with saliva and CGM testing to cross-check everything. The fact that 60% of Americans are not meeting their daily magnesium intake and 70% are not for calcium. How important it is to count our nutrients and not just calories in some individuals' cases. Power Quotes From The Show Common Nutrient Deficiencies in the USA "Around 60% of Americans are not meeting their daily magnesium intake and it is 70% for calcium. Please be mindful of what you are eating. As well as counting calories, if you are doing that, try to count nutrients as well because as humans are living longer, we need to take better care of ourselves. Many of us will easily live to be 90 years old or older if we continue to take good care of our health. It's important that we have good health as we get older so that we're not in bad shape, barely walking, and suffering for decades. These nutrient deficiencies are really, really important and we need to keep an eye on them on a regular basis." - Miray Tayfun Vivoo's Positive Encouragement for Lifestyle Change "I want people to be encouraged by their Vivoo results. If their results are above average, instead of panicking, I want them to see it as an opportunity to make a change to improve their results. The language we use on the app is not rigid but friendly because we don't want to make people feel sad or punished if they're not hydrated but rather encouraged. People don't tend to have a serious lack of information about how to improve their health but they have a lack of motivation and we want to help them with that. A health product and app should be supportive, not make you feel bad." - Miray Tayfun Living Life Well Every Day "For me, wellness is listening to your body's voice; listening to your mind's voice. Give it your full attention every day. Wellness is a whole but if one area of it is suffering, it's not the end of the world. You just have to take extra care. Maybe your body needs you to focus on nutrition or hydration more than usual some days. In moments of high stress when your heart is racing, remember to breathe. If you focus on doing something for your health every single day, then your whole body will remain strong." - Miray Tayfun Links From Today's Show Miray Tayfun The Salt Fix: Why the Experts Got It All Wrong--and How Eating More Might Save Your Life by Dr. James DiNicolantonio LMNT 403 Robb Wolf | Electrolytes: How Sodium, Potassium & Magnesium Help To Beat Brain Fog 252 Why Sleep Beats Food For Fat Loss: Harpreet Rai 397 Kara Collier | How To Stop Eating Sugar: The CGM Solution & NutriSense Shop the Wellness Force Store breathwork.io Paleovalley – Save 15% on your ACV Complex with the code ‘JOSH' Seeking Health - Save 10% with the code 'JOSH' Organifi – Special 20% off to our listeners with the code ‘WELLNESSFORCE' Drink LMNT – Zero Sugar Hydration: Get your free LMNT Sample Pack, you only cover the cost of shipping Botanic Tonics – Save 40% when you use the code ‘WELLNESS40' Essential Oil Wizardry: Save 10% with the code 'WELLNESSFORCE' Cured Nutrition – Get 15% off of your order when you visit wellnessforce.com/cured + use the code ‘WELLNESSFORCE' M21 Wellness Guide Wellness Force Community Leave Wellness Force a review on iTunes Vivoo Instagram YouTube Facebook Twitter LinkedIn About Miray Tayfun Miray Tayfun is the Co-founder and the CEO of Vivoo, an at-home urine test with an application that measures 11 parameters and delivers personalized advice to individuals so they can improve their health and wellness. Dr Tim answers your questions! Time stamps: 2:02 my cycle is stalled with Ammonia reading of 2ppm going on for 2 weeks. 6:20 Things to think of when moving. 11:57 Would you recommend leaving out all mechanical filtration while cycling with this bacteria? That way the only thing they can get stuck to is the substrate, rock, and biological filter media? 14:01 Just came out of my 3 day blackout. I'm dosing waste away now. The Dino's are gone for now. But my alk is sky high and my corals are stressed. I don't want to do a water change because it will spark the Dinos again. What should I do here? 18:45 I set my tank yesterday and followed everything you say but my ammonia reads between 0.50 and 1.0 is this okay or should I start over? 22:05 I've been using NP active pearl & waste away liquid form for half a year But now I am interested in Waste away gel. Do I need to remove NP Active pearl while introducing waste away? 25:20 I noticed that the protein skimmer has been overflowing with clear water in the collection cup right after I introduced waste away. As I don't see cloudy water - how long should I remain turning off the protein skimmer? 29:00 I am on day 16 and nitrates are still high, and climbing, I'm getting ready to do a partial water change. Is it possible my bottle was dead? On your website that shows a chart where it shows constantly adding ammonium, but in the video Dr. Tim said never to add unless both Ammonium and Nitrite are low. Should I still be adding ammonium or not? 34:00 New BiOrb and One and Only... should I remove or turn off this air pump or remove the sponge? I just don't want all the helpful bacteria to end up in the cartridge that's going to be replaced at some point. 35:45 First Defense, Eco-Balance and Waste Away gels - can these products be used in the same tank? Once my aquarium is established, it seems the process should be - water change (using AquaCleanse), Then add First Defense, wait 7 days and add Eco-Balance, just replace the gels when needed, is this correct? 39:40 Would it be advisable to use Dr.Tim's One and Only on an established system to help fight off diatoms? 42:02 Which of the Eco Balance products-freshwater or saltwater- would be best suited for a brackish water system? 44:00 ASF lights- how much do they run, and would they be anemone grade? 48:59 I've used secondhand Marco rock. It's leaching out some phosphate into the water. My Hanna checker is reading 0.248ppm. I would normally just use PhosphateRX to knock these back down to 0.03ppm. But I don't have any filters on the system yet and I don't know is PhosphateRX will affect the one&only?
“I want people to understand the importance of science. We live in a world now where there's a lot of mistrust, but I honestly believe that science is the only way out of all of the confusion and misinformation that exists. I'm not saying that science is perfect. We actually need to do science better, but science is integral to sorting through the world's problems.” - Simon Hill Welcome to The Fit Vegan Podcast, I'm your host, Luckie Sigouin! Today, I am speaking with Simon Hill as we bust vegan myths! From confusions about protein intake to iron-related myths, we are going to address all of that today. Simon Hill is a Physiotherapist and Nutritionist who is passionate about making nutritional information simple and accessible so that people can make informed decisions about the food they feed themselves and their families. In 2008, Simon completed a Bachelor of Physiotherapy and immediately began working as a Sports Physiotherapist in Melbourne both at a leading private practice and with professional AFL & VFL footballers. Over the years, however, Simon became increasingly curious about the role nutrition played in nourishing the body and preventing disease. By using his research skills developed during his honors degree, Simon dove deep into the available literature on nutrition & disease and soon became fascinated by the vast evidence out there that proved that simple lifestyle changes could help people prevent and sometimes even reverse many of the leading chronic diseases that plague the western world today. After undertaking a Plant-Based Nutrition Certificate and a post-graduate degree in Nutrition, Simon set up plantproof.com and began hosting world-renowned doctors and public figures, such as Neurologist's Dean & Ayesha Sherzai, MD, Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, MD, Dr. David Katz, MD, Environmental Researcher Nicholas Carter, Climate Scientist Dr. Jonathon Foley, and Ultra-Athlete Rich Roll on the Plant Proof podcast. In this episode, we cover [00:01 - 18:01] Life Events that Made Simon Go Plant-Based [18:02 - 37:40] The Importance of Science in Improving Public Health [37:41 - 44:47] Why You Don't Need Meat to Get Enough Iron [44:48 - 47:57] Dealing with Vitamin B12 Deficiency [47:58 - 01:00:56] Addressing Protein-Related Vegan Myths [01:00:57 - 01:08:53] Simon on Soy Consumption [01:08:54 - 01:14:30] Getting Enough Calcium on a Plant-Based Diet [01:14:31 - 01:24:42] Having Enough Omega-3 Without Eating Fish [01:24:43 - 01:27:47] Tackling the Confusion About Nitrate and Nitrite [01:27:48 - 01:34:10] Closing Segment Key Quotes “Unless you're eating a diet that has almost no diversity or a diet that is severely calorie- and protein-restricted, then you have absolutely no worries on a completely plant exclusive diet, that you will be consuming adequate amounts of all of those nine essential amino acids.” - Simon Hill “It's not as though you need to do some sort of creative accounting and calculation every meal to ensure that you have all nine essential amino acids in perfect amounts, it doesn't work like that. All you need to do is focus on consuming a plant-based diet that has a good amount of diversity – you're eating fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes, whole grains, lots of different colors, and you will be getting all of the amino acids that you require.” - Simon Hill “If you include soy in your diet, at levels that are in line with what traditional soy consumption is, whether you're female or male, it's a healthy inclusion in your diet. But at the same time, soy is also not a necessary component of a diet. So if for some reason you don't want to consume it, then there's a whole host of other plant-based foods that you can eat instead.” - Simon Hill “Focus on all of those different sorts of pillars and key nutrients and you'll give yourself the best chance of keeping strong, healthy bones.” - Simon Hill ...
This stock keeps moving up every time we take a peek at it. So in today's episode for September 4th 2021, we see what's happening with Deepak Nitrite once again.
Nifty ended 0.65 percent higher at 15,737.75 on June 10. On the weekly timeframe, the index is maintaining its bullish formation of the higher top higher bottom which means the medium to longer-term uptrend is still intact but some correction may happen in the short term. It remains above the long-term moving averages of 50, 100 and 200-day SMA. Momentum indicator RSI plotted on the daily timeframe can be seen turning down from the overbought zone which indicates bullish momentum has lost and we may see some profit-booking in the market in the short term. The key support levels to watch out for in the short term are 15,374 and 15,145. On the upside, key resistance levels are 15,800. If the index sustains above this level, we might see the index head higher towards 15,986 and 16,687. We believe that the long-term bullish trend is intact but in the short to medium term, we might see some profit booking in the index. If the Nifty goes below 15,500 we can see some correction till 15,374 – 15,145 levels.

While the answer to how many coral species are there? is Googleable', until now scientists didn't know how many individual coral colonies there are in the world. In the Pacific, we estimate there are roughly half a trillion corals, said the study lead author, Dr Andy Dietzel from the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies at James Cook University (Coral CoE at JCU). This is about the same number of trees in the Amazon, or birds in the world. The results are crucial for the research and conservation of corals and coral reefs as they decline across the world due to the effects of climate change. http://bit.ly/RNNnewsPeter153 Jeremy: ReefBot uses traditional reagent based method to autonomously measure the levels of the most common parameters in your tank. It currently measures Alkalinity, Calcium, Magnesium, Nitrate, Phosphate, Nitrite, Ammonia, Copper and Iodine with more parameters added regularly. Upgraded features Needle Reach The needle can now reach most of the reagents in the vials allowing you to perform more tests before refilling. Our test kits are our greatest tool. But what happens when the tests we rely on don’t do what they are supposed to do? Yes, your tests know how to lie! They also know how to have a bit of fun and not react the way you are expecting. Adds a bit more fun to our job, doesn’t it? Well, the fact is our test will always react within the confines of chemistry, even if we don’t understand the chemistry. The only way to truly understand your tests is to understand the chemistry that allows them to work. And there again, another thing to learn in water treatment. This is why I always say that you should learn something every day in the water treatment industry! Today, we are going to talk about understanding our tests better. I have chosen questions from the Scaling UP! mailbag about tests. What happens when our pinks don’t turn pink, and our blues don’t turn blue? That’s what we are talking about today. C., Magnusson, K. R., Tanguay, R. L., Stevens, J. F., Hord, N. G. Abstract: Introduction Dietary nitrate lowers blood pressure and improves athletic performance in humans, yet data supporting observations that it may increase cerebral blood flow and improve cognitive performance are mixed. Here we tested the hypothesis that nitrate and nitrite treatment would improve indicators of learning and cognitive performance in a zebrafish ( Danio rerio ) model. We also explored the extent to which nitrate and nitrite treatment affected the brain metabolome in order to understand how nitrate and nitrite supplementation may affect indices of cognitive function. Methods Fish were exposed to sodium nitrate (606.9 mg/L), sodium nitrite (19.5 mg/L), or control water for 2-4 weeks and free swim, startle response, innate predator avoidance, social cohesion, and shuttle box assays were performed. Results Nitrate and nitrite treatment did not change fish weight, length, predator avoidance, or distance and velocity traveled in an unstressed environment. Nitrate- and nitrite-treated fish initially experienced more negative reinforcement and increased time to decision in the shuttle box assay, which is consistent with a decrease in associative learning or executive function however, over multiple trials, all treatment groups demonstrated behaviors associated with learning. Nitrate and nitrite treatment significantly increased anxiety-like behavior but did not alter epinephrine, norepinephrine or dopamine levels. Targeted LC-MS/MS analysis revealed no significant increase in brain nitrate or nitrite concentrations with treatment. An untargeted metabolomics analysis found 47 metabolites whose abundance was significantly altered in the brain with nitrate and nitrite treatment including an 18-19% reduction in the neurotransmitter {gamma}-aminobutyric acid (GABA), and 17-22% reduction in its precursor, glutamine, which may contribute to the increased anxiety-like behavior. Conclusion Nitrate and nitrite treatment did not adversely affect multiple parameters of zebrafish health but was associated with mild anxiety-like behavior, changes in the brain metabolome, and caused a short-term decrease in executive function or associative learning. Nifty fell more than 100 points from the intraday high to close with a loss of 24 points at 11,440 on September 14. During last week, the benchmark index took support at 50-day SMA, which is placed at 11,200 currently, and bounced back sharply. This support also coincides with the recent swing low of 11,185, registered on September 9. In the Nifty options segment, we have seen Put writing at 11,200 -11,300 levels. There are multiple pieces of evidence that suggest that Nifty is likely to find strong support around 11,200 levels and unless it closes below this level, the uptrend will remain intact. On the higher side, immediate resistance is seen around 11,585 which is the recent swing high. We believe that, rather than anticipating the resistance or top, it is advisable to remain bullish with a trailing stop loss strategy in the index as well as in the stocks.

Abstract: Aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) is a devastating subset of stroke. One of the major determinates of morbidity is the development of delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI). Disruption of the nitric oxide (NO) pathway and consequently the control of cerebral blood flow (CBF), known as cerebral autoregulation, is believed to play a role in its pathophysiology. Through the pharmacological manipulation of in vivo NO levels using an exogenous NO donor we sought to explore this relationship. Phase synchronisation index (PSI), an expression of the interdependence between CBF and arterial blood pressure (ABP) and thus cerebral autoregulation, was calculated before and during sodium nitrite administration in 10 high-grade SAH patients acutely post-rupture. In patients that did not develop DCI, there was a significant increase in PSI around 0.1 Hz during the administration of sodium nitrite (33%; p-value 0.006). In patients that developed DCI, PSI did not change significantly. Synchronisation between ABP and CBF at 0.1 Hz has been proposed as a mechanism by which organ perfusion is maintained, during periods of physiological stress. These findings suggest that functional NO depletion plays a role in impaired cerebral autoregulation during EBI, but the development of DCI may have a distinct pathophysiological aetiology. 116 Pinks and Blues: System Volume Episode 116: Show Notes I am so grateful for the members of the Scaling UP! Nation! I have the best audience in all of podcasting. To great content every week every episode, I beg the Nation! to help me by asking questions they would like for me to answer. The Nation! has responded to that call once again! Today, a friend of the show, Eric Russo, of episode 111, asks about the rules of thumb when it comes to determining volume in a closed-loop system. If you have ever heard me speak on this topic, you know I don't trust rules of thumb. But I do accept math. WARNING: This episode contains MATH. Today's episode is about how I use math to determine how much volume is in a closed-loop system. Below are the calculations I talk about on the show. Estimating System Volume: Πr2 x 7.48 x pipe’ Π = 3.14 R = half the pipe diameter and then square that number (must be in feet) Pipe = 7.48 the conversion to get feet of pipe into gallons Titration Drop Manipulation: SDC / (NV / OV) = NDC SDC= Standard or Original drop count in ppm NDC = New drop count in ppm NV = New volume OV = Original volume Volume Calculation: (120,000 x NaNO2) / Δ x (conversion) = Gallons in the system NaNO2 = the lbs. Of sodium nitrite added to the system Δ = the change in NaNO2 in the system from your addition Conversion = if you are using a nitrite test (not a sodium nitrite test), you will need to account for the fact you added sodium nitrite and only tested for nitrite. The conversion will be 1.5 120,000 the conversion/axiom that 1 pound of anything in 1,000 gallons of water will yield 120 ppm Nitrite test procedure courtesy of Aquaphoenix: https://www.aquaphoenixsci.com/resources/procedures/?fileid=7368 Test Species Conversion: What we add / what we test = conversion factor Key Points From This Episode: Rising Tide Mastermind [0:00:35] Journaling [0:04:24] Rules Of Thumb [0:08:38] Calculating The System Volume [0:10:06] Calculation For Pipe [0:12:32] Compounded Addition [0:15:45] Nitrite Test & Sodium Nitrite Test Procedure [0:23:11] Get A Copy Of 5 Minutes Journal [0:32:55] And A Lot More! Amyl Nitrites (known as “amyl” or “poppers”) are a part of life for many queer Australians, particularly gay men. A prescription level relaxant, it has been used as a party drug and sex aid for decades. Now, the Therapeutic Goods Administration has proposed criminalising amyl, moving it to the same classification as heroin. Since amyl is a non-addictive substance with significantly lower health risks, many in the queer community are seeing this move as an act of discrimination.Producer/Presenter:Daniel ButlerFeaturing:Dr Daniel Demant, Lecturer in Public Health, University of Technology Sydney*Due to the number of submissions, the TGA has delayed its final decision and extended the deadline for community feedback. The sides should be trimmed and straight, all glands, nodes and skin removed, and the slab squared up. The weight of your slab of belly is the reference weight for the salt and sugar cure. Weigh your salt to 3.25% of the total weight of the belly. Place salt in large mixing bowl. Weight the maple syrup to 0.75% of the total belly weight. Pour that into the bowl with the salt. Weight brown sugar to 1.75% of the total pork belly weight. Add to mixing bowl. Mix all ingredients in bowl thoroughly. Spread cure on belly evenly, so you have none leftover. Sprinkle liberally with black pepper. Seal belly in vacuum sealer, or in a large ziplock bag (it's ok if you have to split it up between bags.) Refrigerate for 10 days, flipping the belly every other day to ensure good contact with the brine. After 10 days, remove from sealed bag, rinse with cold water and pat dery. Lightly coat outside of slab with black pepper. The belly is ready to slice and fry, but for a more developed flavor, I recommend wrapping the slab in cheesecloth and hanging it in a dark room that stays between 60 and 70 degrees and letting it dry there for another week or two. The enzymatic and bacterial actions will build flavor and reduce water weight in the meat
Jasmina Aganovic is a cosmetics and consumer goods entrepreneur who received her degree in chemical and biological engineering from MIT, and she’s back on the podcast to talk about the progress AOBiome have made with their clinical trials. In this interview, we focus mostly on the potential treatment of acne and hypertension, but trials are also underway for allergies, eczema, wound healing, migraines and temperature regulation. Mother Dirt is the company focussed on commercialising the research of AOBiome, and I’ve been using their AO+ Mist spray product for over two years for the successful prevention of nappy (diaper) rash, saddle sores, and acne caused by bike helmets. I’ve also been using the spray in the place of a deodorant, and so far my wife hasn’t divorced me. Three deaths from nitrite tainted milk in China show that the country still has some way to go to clean up its dairy industry. One of the authors of a new study1 on the 2008 China melamine milk scandal explains what has gone wrong and what reforms are needed.
Aims: The aim of the presented study was to clarify the relationship between the pulsatility index of the uterine arteries and the maternal cubital artery and peripheral concentrations of the metabolites of nitric oxide (NO) and its second messenger cyclic guanosinmonophophate (cGMP) during the normal course of pregnancy and postpartum. Methods: 49 uncomplicated pregnancies were investigated every 46 weeks until delivery, 29 of them were additionally investigated postpartum. Paralleling each Doppler sonografic investigation maternal blood and urine samples were taken. The measurements of nitrite/ nitrate and cGMP were performed with a colorimetric and radio immuno assay. We demonstrate a significant decrease of the PI of the uterine arteries and of the cubital artery with inverse correlation to advancing gestational age. Results: The concentrations of nitrite/nitrate and cGMP remain stable during gestation and do not correlate to the PI of the uterine and cubital artery. Postpartum a reincrease in the uterine and peripheral resistance can be shown. The concentrations of urinary cGMP and nitrite/ nitrate as well as plasma cGMP remain unchanged, whereas plasma nitrite/nitrate decreases postpartum. Conclusions: The status of NO biosyntheses in normal pregnancy remains controversial. We hypothesize further systemically acting mediators which contribute to the decreasing vascular resistance.
