It's Wednesday, March 12th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark British street preacher faced Muslim death threats A court in the United Kingdom threw out a case against a Christian street preacher this week. Back in 2023, Karandeep Mamman faced death threats from a group of Muslims for sharing the Gospel with them. To his shock, police later charged him with causing religiously aggravated harassment.  Karandeep won his case in court thanks to the help of the Christian Legal Centre. Andrea Williams, a leader with the Christian Legal Centre, said, “The CCTV footage reveals Karandeep being assaulted, threatened and surrounded, for expressing his Christian beliefs, yet it is he that ends up being prosecuted by the police.”  After the ruling, Karandeep said, “I am relieved and pleased that the judge threw the case out and I give all the glory to Jesus.” In Romans 1:16, the Apostle Paul wrote, “I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes.” Ukraine agrees to 30-day ceasefire with Russia Ukraine agreed to a 30-day ceasefire in the war with Russia.  U.S. and Ukrainian officials announced the agreement yesterday after talks in Saudi Arabia. The ceasefire is now pending approval by Russia.  Secretary of State Marco Rubio led the U.S. delegation. RUBIO: “We'll take this offer now to the Russians, and we hope that they'll say yes, that they'll say yes to peace. The ball is now in their court.  But again, the President's objective, [Donald Trump], here is number one above everything else. He wants the war to end, and I think today, Ukraine has taken a concrete step in that regard. We hope the Russians will reciprocate.” Rubio added, “It'll be up to [Russia] to say yes or no. If they say no, then we'll unfortunately know what the impediment is to peace here.” Following Ukraine's agreement to the ceasefire, the Trump administration said it would resume military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine.   United States increasing influence over Panama Canal The United States is increasing its influence over the Panama Canal. BlackRock, the American investment company, is leading a consortium to buy over 40 ports in 23 countries for $23 billion. A conglomerate based in Hong Kong is selling its control of the ports. The deal includes the ports on either end of the Panama Canal as well as ports in Mexico, the Netherlands, Egypt, Australia, and Pakistan.  President Donald Trump touted the deal as reclaiming the Panama Canal from Chinese influence.  House OKs continuing resolution funding gov't through end of fiscal year On Tuesday, the House voted 217-213 to pass the Republicans' continuing resolution that would avert a partial government shutdown that was set to begin Friday. The bill will now go to the Senate, where its prospects remain uncertain, reports The Daily Signal. The GOP-backed Continuing Resolution passed the House along party lines with the exception of Republican Congressman Thomas Massie of Kentucky who remained the only Republican in opposition. All Democrats voted against it, except Democratic Congressman Jared Golden of Maine. Now, the Continuing Resolution will face an even greater test in the Senate, where Republicans will have to win over the votes of at least seven Democrats or independents in order to bring the bill to the floor. Navy no longer pays for abortion travel The U.S. Navy announced last week it will no longer cover travel-related expense or provide leave for its service members to get abortions. The new policy ends a pro-abortion policy from the Biden administration. The Coast Guard also updated its policies to no longer cover travel expenses or grant leave for abortions. YouTube TV discriminates against Christian programming The Federal Communications Commission is questioning YouTube TV over allegations that it discriminates against Christian programming.  Brendan Carr, the Chairman of the FCC, sent a letter last week to the CEOs of Alphabet and Google which own YouTube TV. The letter cites a complaint from Great American Media. The network shares family-friendly and Christian content. It's one of the fastest growing networks and is carried on many cable and streaming services, but not on YouTube TV.  Carr noted, “These concerning allegations come at a time when American public discourse has experienced an unprecedented—and unacceptable—surge in censorship.” Franklin Graham preached to 400,000 Ethiopians And finally, Evangelist Franklin Graham preached to over 400,000 people in Ethiopia this past weekend. GRAHAM: “He took your sins and my sins, and He went to the grave. He died. He was buried, but on the third day, God raised His Son to life. Jesus isn't dead. He is alive.  He's in Ethiopia tonight, and He'll come into each and every heart that invites Him.” The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association organized the event with over 1,600 Evangelical churches in the country. They held the event in Meskal Square in Ethiopia's capital of Addis Ababa. Meskal Square means “Cross Square.” The square was the place where infamous Communist rallies once took place. During the event, Graham posted on Facebook. He said, “Sixty-five years ago today, my father Billy Graham preached the Gospel here in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and it is such a privilege for me to be able to preach here this weekend. … Please pray for these new believers and the local Evangelical churches as they follow up with them.” Speaking of Jesus, Acts 4:12 says, “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under Heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Wednesday, March 12th, in the year of our Lord 2025. Subscribe by Amazon Music or by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com. On Thursday's Mark Levin Show, the Democrats and the media are furious with a report from the special counsel about President Biden's classified documents because it exposes Biden as a feeble old man with dementia who should be removed under the 25th Amendment. Biden was unable to remember key details and basic facts and had entirely forgotten that he was even Vice President for 8 years. At the same time, the Democrat party and the Biden regime are behind the push to apply the 14th Amendment to Donald Trump to disqualify him from the election. All Democrats care about is power, which is why they have hidden Biden as much as possible. The President is the Executive branch and has the power to declassify information, which is why the case against Trump is bogus. Trump could not have violated the Espionage Act, unlike Biden and Hillary Clinton who were not President and stole classified documents. The willful removal and disclosure of classified information falls directly into the Espionage Act, which is exactly what Biden did for 40 years, and stashed them in his garage. The fact is they threw the book at Trump who had the power to declassify, but they let Biden go free despite being guilty and caught red-handed because he's old and feeble. Later, Mark speaks with Jim Trusty, former lawyer for Donald Trump, to discuss the special counsel report about Joe Biden's mental capacity and their refusal to prosecute Biden despite being guilty with mountains of evidence. In another edition of "Taking It to the Streets," I made my way down Broadway to the Mississippi River in Missouri to talk to random people. My goal was to ask them if they were elected president what would be their first priority, and I followed up with what they would do first locally if they were mayor of their city. Discussions ranged from Donald Trump to the media to faith to jobs to race—and more! This was rich! I even "disturbed" a couple out on their first date! One guy joined the conversation because he overheard another guy say, "All Democrats hate America." There is absolutely nothing like talking to folks—and that's what "Taking It to the Streets" is all about! The final tally showed 216 in favor of the motion to vacate, while 210 were opposed. Though McCarthy is no longer third in line to the presidency, he will retain his seat. The House will now have to decide who, if anyone, has enough votes to take over as Speaker. Until then, Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) will act as Speaker pro tempore. Earlier Tuesday, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) stood and repeated his motion to vacate. Rep Tom Cole (R-OK) rose to offer to table that motion. The 15-minute vote saw 208 Republicans vote in favor of McCarthy's leadership, and 11 against. All Democrats were in favor of vacating. Following a 60-minute back and forth between those for and against vacating McCarthy's position, the final vote was taken. Gaetz was able to initiate proceedings on his own thanks to the inclusion of the Jeffersonian Motion in the deal made when McCarthy accepted the Speakership in January. Under the agreement, a single person was permitted to introduce a motion to remove McCarthy if he "goes back on his word or policy agenda." In the months since, McCarthy has been criticized by members of his own party for decisions regarding the appropriation of funds to Ukraine, among other things. He recently drew ire from Gaetz and his crew for teaming up with Democrats to pass a 45-day stopgap resolution to keep the government running, despite there not being a properly passed continuing resolution. "You don't know chaos until you've seen where this Congress and this uniparty is bringing us," the Florida Congressman said in response to suggestions from reporters that removing the Speaker would throw the House into disarray. Others, including Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Thomas Massie (R-KY), disagreed with Gaetz, and indicated that they would support McCarthy. "I agree with you we need serious change," Greene said, "but there is no plan and no one capable even stepping up. Last time Freedom Caucus threw out a Speaker, we ended up with Paul Ryan who did not support President Trump’s agenda. Nothing can truly change until Trump is back in the WH." Prior to the vote, McCarthy admitted it was "likely" that he would be vacated, noting that if all Democrats sided against him, they would only need five Republican votes. https://dailycaller.com/2023/10/03/dnc-officials-minorities-representation/ DNC Officials Are Freaking Out Because They Can’t Get Enough Minorities To Represent Them High-ranking officials at the Democratic National Committee (DNC) are expressing significant worries that the committee is not meeting its self-established minority representation goals, Politico reported. Six present and former committee members are increasingly fretting about the lack of desired diversity among delegates selected to attend the 2023 DNC convention, according to Politico. At the same time, President Joe Biden’s campaign is hemorrhaging minority support, which is crucial for securing a second term. “I keep looking at these diversity goals in big states like New York, like California. And, for some reason, whether it’s the African American community, Black community, the LGBTQ+ community, or Hispanic community, [the] numbers continue to decrease,” political strategist and former chair of the DNC Donna Brazile stated at a recent committee meeting in Washington, D.C., according to Politico. “It raises a red flag in my judgment,” Brazile told Politico in an interview. “And then I try to find out what the hell is it.” Biden’s support among black, Latino and Asian voters plummeted from 63% in July to 47%, according to a Monmouth University poll published on Monday. The poll also found that Trump’s support from these demographics increased from 23% to 33% over the same period of time. The DNC employs a formula to determine delegate diversity figures, which is tailored for each state and considers factors like census data and Democrat-leaning status, according to Politico. “If African Americans are 10 percent of the population, they’re usually like 15-20 percent of the Democratic vote,” political scientist and DNC member Elaine Kamarck stated, according to Politico. “So that’s how the math starts to work for the affirmative action goals.” Biden won the 2020 presidential election with support from more than 70% of nonwhite voters, according to The New York Times. https://nypost.com/2023/10/03/disturbing-video-shows-moment-beloved-activist-poet-is-randomly-stabbed-to-death-in-front-of-girlfriend-on-nyc-street/ Disturbing video shows moment beloved activist, poet is randomly stabbed to death in front of girlfriend on NYC street Disturbing new video shows the moment an activist and poet was randomly stabbed to death in front of his girlfriend – who desperately tried to get help in the aftermath of the harrowing attack in Brooklyn. Ryan Carson, 32, and his girlfriend can be seen sitting on a bus stop bench in Bedford-Stuyvesant and speaking with his girlfriend as the two made their way home from a wedding on Long Island just before 4 a.m. on Monday, according to the surveillance footage. Wearing a gray suit, Carson and the young woman, dressed in a blue, sleeveless gown, get up and begin to walk down the block, in the same direction as a man in a dark colored sweatshirt who had just strolled past the pair at the B38 bus stop, with his hood up over his head and his hands in his pockets. Just feet ahead of them, the stranger begins kicking scooters parked near the curb for no apparent reason, the footage – obtained by The Post on Tuesday – shows. Suddenly, the unhinged man turns to Carson The community activist – who replied that he wasn’t looking at anything – then stepped between his girlfriend and the irate stranger, who began to advance on the couple. “I’ll kill you!” the maniac threatens as Carson pleads with him to “Chill! Chill!” and holds up his hand. But the attacker pursues Carson, pulling a knife, as the victim’s girlfriend – running up behind them – is heard frantically yelling “Please, please, please!” As he runs, Carson tumbles over the bench the couple had earlier been sitting on. The assailant then grabs his jacket and knocks him onto the ground, savagely stabbing him multiple times in the chest as the victim’s girlfriend catches up to them. He then walks away as Carson lies curled up on the ground, before returning and approaching the terrified woman, who raises her hand to stop him. The sicko spits on her – while still clutching the knife – before kicking Carson’s mortally wounded body and storming away. An unknown woman then appears near the corner of the frame, yelling, “Don’t hurt him!” at the crazed man and repeating what sounds like the name “Brian” or “Bryan.” Investigators believe that woman and the suspect knew each other prior to the slaying, police sources said Tuesday. “I’m so sorry!” the same woman exclaims as she approaches Carson, still lying on the sidewalk, as his worried girlfriend stands at his side. The video cuts off as the girlfriend kneels over her loved one’s body, gently moving his arm that had been hanging over his face. She held her gravely injured boyfriend in her arms before he was rushed to Kings County Hospital Center, but it was too late – as the stab wound had pierced his heart, according to cops and sources. The horrific attack happened at Lafayette Avenue and Malcolm X Boulevard, just blocks from the Bedford-Nostrand avenues train station, where the couple had gotten off the subway on their way home from the wedding, cops said. No arrests had been made in the heinous crime by Tuesday afternoon, but a “Wanted” poster circulated showing a close-up of the suspect wearing a black “Champion” sweatshirt. Men, this is a somber reminder it’s always a good idea to carry a firearm to protect yourself and those you love. And finally… https://www.dailywire.com/news/chicago-airport-now-sheltering-hundreds-of-illegal-migrants-as-city-waits-on-tents Chicago Airport Now Sheltering Hundreds Of Illegal Migrants As City Waits On Tents Chicago is now sheltering hundreds of illegal migrants at O’Hare International Airport as the city waits for new shelters to be built. The hundreds of recent arrivals, including babies and the elderly, live in a shuttle bus center at the airport’s Terminal 1, where they sleep on cardboard and use airport bathrooms, the Associated Press reported. Up to 500 migrants have lived at O’Hare at the same time in the crowded area where privacy is a curtain closed with staples, although the migrants have spread out beyond the curtain, some sleeping along windows as travelers walk by. Medical care is limited, and germs reportedly spread quickly in the living area. A private firm watches the migrants and their activities. The haphazard shelter situation has raised concerns about public health as well as safety. “It was supposed to be a stop-and-go place,” said Vianney Marzullo, one of the few volunteers at O’Hare. “It’s very concerning. It is not just a safety matter, but a public health matter.” Some migrants are also living at Chicago’s other airport, Midway International Airport, about 20 miles south of O’Hare. Others are sleeping on the floors of police stations. Chicago has been scrambling to respond to a migrant crisis before the cold winter months arrive. The country’s third-largest city has experienced an influx of about 14,000 migrants recently, many from Venezuela, and has already spent at least $250 million on the issue. Last month, the city of Chicago signed a $29.4 million contract with a private security firm to build massive winterized camps for newly arrived illegal migrants. The firm will be responsible for building, staffing, and operating the huge tents, which must be able to house between 250 and 1,400 migrants. Chicago Democratic Mayor Brandon Johnson faced pushback last month when he asked all 50 city council members to find two acres in their wards for a large tent that could house 200 migrants. “I’ve looked in my ward. I just don’t have any available space. I have one of the most dense wards in the city,” Alderman Brian Hopkins, whose ward includes parts of downtown, said last month. In the meantime, Chicago leaders have been begging the federal government for help with the migrant crisis. “Let me state this clearly: the city of Chicago cannot go on welcoming new arrivals safely and capably without significant support and immigration policy changes,” Johnson said in late August. The federal government has already given Chicago and Illinois at least $8.5 million for the migrant crisis. Other major cities are battling a migrant problem as well. New York City is struggling to process about 113,000 migrants who have streamed into the city since last summer. New York also set up tent shelters for migrants last year but ran into issues, including flooding in one of those shelters. Other cities like Boston and Atlantic City, New Jersey, have rejected the idea of sheltering migrants in airports.

President Joe Biden hopes to use his visit to Asia to confirm his belief that long-standing friendships can afford to become even friendlier — and pay dividends. He opens the trip in South Korea on Friday and ends in Japan next week at a time when world events are resetting the foundations of the global order. Among the issues on the table for Biden are seeking ways to show tighter relationships, rethinking national security aims, launching a new trade framework and improving the availability of computer chips after a debilitating shortage. Ukrainian authorities say their troops repelled a Russian attack in the east, as Moscow struggled to gain ground in the region that is now the focus of the war even as it intensified its campaign there. Battered by their monthslong siege of the vital port city of Mariupol, Russian troops need time to regroup. But Britain's Defense Ministry said in an assessment they may not get it. The city and the steelworks where Ukrainian fighters have held off the Russian assault for weeks have become a symbol of Ukraine's stoic resistance. With the battle for the steel plant winding down, Russia has already started deploying troops away from the site. But the British assessment Friday indicated Russian commanders are under pressure to quickly send them elsewhere. Authorities say two people are dead and another eight wounded following a shooting in Chicago. The shooting happened about 10:40 p.m. Thursday near a McDonald's restaurant on the city's Near North Side.  A church service was held Thursday night to remember the victims of the 10 killed in Buffalo. In sports, the Celtics blow out the Heat to even their series, The Lightning strikes late to go up 2-0 on the Panthers, a roaring start for Rory at the PGA, and walkoff homers for the Mets and Orioles.  Oklahoma's Legislature has given final approval to another Texas-style anti-abortion bill. Abortion providers say once the bill is signed, it would be the most restrictive abortion ban in effect in the country. Its passage is part of an aggressive push in Republican-led states across the country to scale back abortion rights. The bill would prohibit all abortions, except to save the life of a pregnant woman or if the pregnancy is the result of rape or incest that has been reported to law enforcement. It now heads to Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt, who is expected to sign it. A $40 billion infusion of military and economic aid for Ukraine and its allies has cleared the Senate and will head to President Joe Biden for his signature. All Democrats and most Republicans rallied behind the latest, and possibly not last, U.S. financial salvo against Russia's invasion. Approval comes three weeks after Biden requested a smaller $33 billion version. Though the margins in both chambers were overwhelming, many of the “no” votes in the House and Senate came from supporters of former President Donald Trump's isolationist agenda. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said before Thursday's vote that it was “beyond troubling” that some Republicans were adopting Trump's “soft-on-Putin playbook.” Meanwhile, Biden hosted leaders of Sweden and Finland at the White House for a meeting as the two nations seek to join NATO in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The white man accused of killing 10 Black people at a Buffalo supermarket appeared briefly in court Thursday after a grand jury indicted him on a first-degree murder charge. Assistant district attorney Gary Hackbush said the indictment of 18-year-old Payton Gendron was handed up Wednesday. He was silent throughout the proceeding and sent back to jail. Someone shouted “Payton you're a coward!” as he was led out. Ten people were killed and three others wounded in the Saturday shooting at the Tops Friendly Market in a predominantly Black neighborhood of Buffalo. Authorities are continuing to investigate the possibility of hate crime and terrorism charges. Testimony continued as Johnny Depp is suing Amber Heard for libel in Fairfax, Virginia, over a 2018 op-ed she wrote describing herself as “a public figure representing domestic abuse.” More Americans applied for jobless aid last week, but the total number of Americans collecting unemployment benefits is at a 53-year low. Applications for unemployment benefits rose by 21,000 to 218,000 for the week ending May 14, the Labor Department reported Thursday.  Former President George W. Bush is facing criticism after mistakenly describing the invasion of Iraq — which he led as commander in chief — as “brutal” and “wholly unjustified.” Bush then corrected himself to say he meant to refer to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The 75-year-old former president made the comment during a speech Wednesday night in Dallas, and jokingly blamed the mistake on his age. U.S. health advisers are urging a booster dose of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine for kids ages 5 to 11. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention quickly signed off on the advice. The decision opens a third COVID-19 shot to healthy elementary-age kids, just like what is already recommended for everybody 12 and older. Regulators this week authorized the extra dose to be given at least five months after youngsters' last shot. CDC's advisers endorsed it during a public meeting on Thursday. The Greek electronic composer who wrote the unforgettable Academy Award-winning score for “Chariots of Fire” and music for dozens of other movies, documentaries and TV series, has died. The composer known as Vangelis was 79. Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and other officials expressed their condolences Thursday. Greek media reported that Vangelis died in a French hospital late Tuesday. Vangelis started playing the piano at age 4, although he claimed he never learned to read notes. His big breakthrough came with the score for “Chariots of Fire,” a 1981 film that told the story of two British runners in the 1924 Olympics. Vangelis' score received one of the four Academy Awards the film won, including best picture. The Food and Drug Administration's commissioner says a shuttered baby formula factory could be up and running by next week. FDA Commissioner Robert Califf faced congressional anger Thursday for not answering questions about whether his agency should have intervened earlier at the Michigan plant tied to a national formula shortage. Members of a House subcommittee questioned Califf about why the FDA didn't step in when there were signs of problems at Abbott Nutrition's plant last fall before it was closed. The shortage has rattled parents and become a political headwind for President Joe Biden, who's invoked the Defense Production Act to ease supply. Califf asked lawmakers for new food safety funding. The Oscars are getting back to normal, eligibility-wise. After two years of tweaking rules because of the pandemic, including allowing films to debut on a streaming service, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said Wednesday that Oscar hopefuls will once again have to launch in movie theaters. —The Associated Press See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

WMAL INTERVIEW - BYRON YORK - Chief political correspondent, Washington Examiner and author of "Obsession: Inside the Washington Establishment's Never-Ending War on Trump" https://twitter.com/ByronYork https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/author/byron-york TOPIC: Preview the start of impeachment trial 2: AXIOS: Impeachment managers, Trump legal team trade briefs ahead of trial Starting Wednesday at noon, impeachment managers and Trump's lawyers will have up to 16 hours per side for presentations. The allotted time can be stretched across a maximum of two days each. Time will be included at the end of the trial for closing arguments and a vote. BYRON YORK: FIVE REASONS THE TRUMP TRIAL IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL (AND ONE OPPOSING VIEW). The impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump begins Tuesday. Nearly all Republican senators believe it is unconstitutional to try an ex-president. All Democrats disagree. Democrats point to a majority of law professors who agree with them -- no surprise there -- while some conservative scholars and jurists support the Republican position that a Senate trial is not permitted by the Constitution. The conservatives are right. Here are five reasons to support their position, plus a look at the strongest argument on the other side. 1) President means president. Article II, Section 4 of the Constitution says, "The president, vice president and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors." By "president," the Framers meant the President of the United States. 2) Impeachment is for removal. It's clear from a reading of the Constitution that the Founders included impeachment as a mechanism to remove a top official from office for specific instances of misconduct. 3) There's no precedent. Some Democrats have pointed to the case of a cabinet secretary who was impeached after resigning in 1869 as precedent for a trial for a former president. First of all, it's a pretty weak precedent -- the cabinet officer was acquitted because a number of senators had concerns about trying a former official. And second, there is this basic fact: This has never been done before with a former President of the United States. Never.  4) It wasn't discussed when the Constitution was written. As mentioned above, both the authors of the Federalist Papers and the delegates to the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia discussed impeachment as a means of removing officials for misconduct. But they did not discuss the issue of impeaching and trying a former official.  5) The Framers rejected it. Still, Democrats point to some pre-Constitution state constitutions, which allowed for the impeachment of former officials, as proof that the Framers intended impeachment to apply to those ex-officials. And it is true that a few early state constitutions specifically provided for the impeachment of former officials. The constitutions of Pennsylvania, Virginia, Delaware, and Vermont, all passed in 1776-1777, all provided for after-office impeachment (although Delaware's limited impeachment to the 18 months after leaving office). The problem is, a decade later, in 1787, the Framers did not incorporate those provisions in the Constitution SUBSCRIBE TO BYRON'S NEWSLETTER See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Is Joe Biden a Racist?Harris puts Biden's race record on trial in Round 2 of Dem primary debateDemocratic presidential primary front-runner Joe Biden ran into a formidable challenge at Thursday night’s debate from U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris, who tapped into her prosecutor toolbox to put his race record on trial following the controversy over his comments on segregationist senators. In perhaps the most heated momentof the night, Harris told Biden she doesn’t believe he is a “racist” but considers his recent comments about being able to work with segregationist senators early in his career “hurtful.”Biden has said he disagreed with the senators on segregation, but was still able to work with them in the Senate. But that explanation did not deter Harris during Thursday's debate. “You worked with them to oppose busing,” Harris said, referring to efforts to limit orders for school desegregation by busing. In an emotional moment, she told her own story of being bussed as a little girl in California. Biden fired back that Harris’ comments were a “mischaracterization of my position across the board.”Biden, though, mostly kept his focus on the candidate he really wants to face -- President Trump. He repeatedly invoked the name and record of his popular running-mate Barack Obama and brushed back swipes at his age from long-shot candidate Rep. Eric Swalwell, who repeatedly called on him to "pass the torch." It's unclear whether the clash with Harris might damage Biden -- considering most prior controversies have not dinged his poll numbers -- or simply give Harris some needed momentum.Meanwhile, Sen. Bernie Sanders avoided any direct clash with Biden. He spent much of the night defending his big-government agenda against questions from moderators and criticism from more centrist leaning – and lower-polling – candidates. Several rivalstook issue with some of Sanders’ socialistic policies, like "Medicare-for-all" and free college tuition. South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg broke with Sanders in saying while he supports free college for children of low and middle income, “I just don’t believe it makes sense to ask working-class families to subsidize even the children of billionaires.”Still, the debate also made clear how Democrats have moved to the left on issues relating to immigration. All 10 Democrats raised their hands when asked if their government health care plan would cover illegal immigrants. Pollster Frank Luntz summed it upthis way on "The Ingraham Angle" on Thursday: "This is not your parents' Democratic Party." Click here for former Clinton strategist Mark Penn's list of winners and losers from Thursday night's Democratic debate.Trump likes what he saw in the Democratic debate from afarAt one time, some pundits were predicting that Democrats could defeat President Trump and the Republican Party on health care. However, thanks to the Democratic Party's stance on health care for illegal immigrants, Trump and Republicans are feeling very confident. While attending the G-20 Summit in Osaka, Japan, the president said Democratic White House contenders’ willingness to extend government health care to illegal immigrants in America will get him reelected. Trump tweeted: “All Democrats just raised their hands for giving millions of illegal aliens unlimited healthcare. How about taking care of American Citizens first!?” He then added: “That’s the end of that race!”Friends of missing Utah student spot activity on Instagram accountThe search for missing Utah student Mackenzie Lueck has taken a peculiar twist. Friends of Lueck told Fox News that they noticed activity on her Instagram account on Wednesday and turned the information over to authorities. Lueck’s personal Instagram account liked a page called “fatherless,” around noon, and her friends quickly took screengrabs to document the activity and turn over to police. The @fatherless handle had more than 47,000 followers as of early Friday but was following only 15 accounts — not including that of Lueck. The 23-year-old woman was last seen meeting an unknown individual around 3 a.m. June 17 at a park in Salt Lake City after being dropped off by a Lyft driver. In a recording made earlier this month, Maj. Gen. Abbas al-Jubouri testified he never saw Gallagher stab the detainee in the neck. Gallagher served alongside Abbas’ unit in an advise-and-assistcapacity in Mosul. Abbas told the defense lawyer if had he witnessed improper conduct from SEALs, he would have taken action. Last week, a Navy SEAL, Special Operator 1st Class Corey Scott, testified that Abbas’ unit tortured, raped and murdered prisoners. Scott said he killed the ISIS prisoner by putting his thumb over the detainee’s breathing tube in order to save him from falling into the hands of Abbas’ unit.France highly motivated in Women's World Cup showdown with Team USAThe United States has its ranking and its trophies, and that's all the motivation France needs. Doug Belkin, Higher education reporter for the WSJ, tells us about “504 designations.” Next, the trial for NXIVM sex cult leader Keith Raniere continues in court and testimony is shedding more light on the practices of the group and also what went down when Raniere was arrested.  Just before he would engage in group sex with his slaves, federal agents busted in to arrest him and he hid in a walk-in closet, leaving the women to cover for him. Pilar Melendez, reporter for the Daily Beast, breaks down the latest. Finally, former White House counsel Don McGahn was subpoenaed to appear before the House Judiciary Committee and testify on ways that Trump could possibly have obstructed justice.  All Democrats got was an empty chair after he refused to show on orders from the White House.  Kyle Cheney, congressional reporter for Politico, joins us for the no-show and increased calls for an impeachment inquiry. Mike Burgess (TX) "The bill we will be voting out soon is about patients. It is about having more time with their loved ones. In the words of Vice President MIKE PENCE, ‘‘It’s about restoring hope and giving patients with life-threatening diseases a fighting chance.’’ With hundreds of thousands of Americans with a terminal illness and their families looking for us to act, I urge Members of this House, the people’s House, to support restoring hope and giving them a fighting chance at life." Hearing: House Hearing; Yucca Mountain, May 10, 2018. 32:00 Representative Greg Walden (OR): You know, the Department of Energy’s Hanford site is just up the mighty Columbia River from where I live and where I grew up. That area and those workers helped us win World War II, and the site’s nuclear program was instrumental in projecting peace through strength throughout the Cold War. While the community has been a constructive partner in support of our vital national security missions, it did not agree to serve as a perpetual storage site for the resulting nuclear waste. Fifty-six million gallons of toxic waste sitting in decades-old metal tanks at Hanford—these are those tanks that were being constructed to hold this waste. They are now buried in the ground. The only entry point is right here. The amount of waste stored at Hanford would fill this entire House Chamber 20 times over. According to a recent Government Accountability Office report, the oldest of these tanks, some of which date back to the 1940s, have single-layer walls, or shells. They were built to last 20 years. They will be almost 100 years old by the estimated end of their waste treatment. The Department of Energy has reported that 67 of these tanks are assumed or known to have leaked waste into the soil. There is an understandable sense of urgency in the Northwest behind the cleanup efforts that are under way at Hanford. H.R. 3053 will provide the pathway to clean up the contaminated Hanford site. You see, the waste from Hanford will end up in a secure permanent storage site that we believe will be Yucca Mountain. 35:15 Representative Greg Walden (OR): The legislation authorizes the Department of Energy to contract with private companies to store nuclear waste while DOE finishes the rigorous scientific analysis of the repository design and the associated Nuclear Regulatory Commission licensing process. So, an interim storage facility can bring added flexibility to DOE’s disposal program and may provide a more expeditious near-term pathway to consolidate spent nuclear fuel. 41.31 Representative Fred Upton (MI): In my district, we have two nuclear plants. Both of them have run out of room in their storage, so they have dry casks that are literally a John Shimkus baseball throw away from Lake Michigan. Every one of these 100-some sites across the country is in an environmentally sensitive area, and at some point they’re going to run out of room. In Michigan, we’ve got two other sites that also have dry casks in addition to the two in my district. 45:05 Representative Buddy Carter (GA): This legislation is important not only because of what it means to the future of clean-energy opportunities for this country, but also what this means for our communities. Nuclear energy has become a safe and effective way to generate energy, all while not producing greenhouse gas emissions. 53:29 Representative Leonard Lance (NJ): New Jersey is home to four nuclear reactors at three generating stations: Oyster Creek, Hope Creek, and Salem. Oyster Creek will be closing this October. In the congressional district I serve, these plants account for about half of the power generation and 90 percent of the carbon-free electricity. New Jersey’s nuclear plants avoid 14 million tons of carbon emissions each year. Public Service, FirstEnergy, and Exelon are doing their part in storing their station’s spent nuclear fuel on-site, but we need a permanent site. The expertise and know-how of the federal government has a responsibility to my constituents and to the American people. I want the 3,000 metric tons of nuclear waste out of New Jersey and consolidated in a national protected facility. 58:54 Representative Dina Titus (NV): The first ‘‘Screw Nevada’’ bill was passed in 1982, and since that time, Nevada’s residents, elected officials, business leaders, health and environmental groups have steadfastly opposed the Yucca Mountain repository. I ask unanimous consent to enter into the record over 100 letters from those groups in opposition. 59:19 Representative Dina Titus (NV): You’ve heard that the legislation before you now, ‘‘Screw Nevada 2.0,’’ is a work of compromise, a bipartisan effort, not perfect, but a step forward. Well, that, frankly, is an opinion. It’s not the facts. Here are the facts: the legislation overrides environmental laws, allowing the EPA to move the goalposts in terms of radiation limits to ensure that nothing will ever interfere with the agenda of the nuclear industry. It sets up a consent-based process for the establishment of an interim storage facility but imposes a permanent facility at Yucca Mountain. It increases the amount of nuclear waste to be dumped in Nevada by 37 percent, 110 metric tons more that were not considered in any of the environmental or safety studies being used to justify the project. It also removes the prohibition currently in law that prohibits Nevada from being the de facto interim storage facility until a permanent one can be licensed. It was also changed after passing out of committee to address the high scoring costs—is it already three minutes? Chairman: Gentlewoman’s time has expired. Representative Paul Tonko: Mr. Speaker, we grant the gentlelady another minute. Chairman: Gentlelady’s recognized. Rep. Titus: Thank you. —to address the high scoring costs, making it less likely that we get host benefits. Also, contrary to the sponsor’s comments, the area around Yucca Mountain is not some desolate area. It has iconic wildlife, endangered species, and Native American artifacts. Also, the proposed facility sits above the water table and on an active fault and can only be reached by roads that travel through 329 of your congressional districts. 1:03:53 Representative Ruben Kihuen (NV): You know, Mr. Speaker, I find it offensive. I sit here and listen to all my colleagues, and they all want to send nuclear waste to the state of Nevada. They’re all generating this nuclear waste, and they want to send it to my backyard right in the Fourth Congressional District. You know, bottom line is this, Mr. Speaker: if you generate nuclear waste, you should keep it in your own backyard. Don’t be sending it to our backyard. 1:11:27 Representative Joe Courtney (CT): Next to me is a picture of Haddam Neck, Connecticut, which is a pristine part of the state where the Connecticut River and the Salmon River come together. Where the circle is on the photograph, there are 43 casks of spent nuclear power uranium rods that, again, today, pretty much cordon off that whole area. If you drove up in a car, you’d be met by a platoon of heavily armed security guards who, for good reason, have to patrol that area every single day because of the dangerous material that is stored there. That has been the case for over 20 years. It costs Connecticut ratepayers $10 million a year, again, for a site that should be long overdue for renovation and access to folks from all over the world because of its rich archeological and historical area. This bill provides a way out for this area, along with 120 other sites across the country, that host communities have been saddled with storage of spent nuclear fuel because of the fact that this country has been unable to come together with a coherent policy. And this bill provides a way out. 1:15:23 Representative Dana Rohrabacher (CA): This bill authorizes the construction of Yucca Mountain as a nuclear waste storage site, which would alleviate the burden of incredible risk that is now borne by communities throughout the country, such as in my district, where homes are not far located from the closed San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station. That, and many other plants throughout the nation, have closed their doors in decades. Yet, Congress has yet to agree of how to safely store that waste, while—and what’s really important is we must store the waste—but while we develop new nuclear energy technologies, that we are capable of doing, that are safe and produce less of their own waste and can consume the waste of older plants—I reminded Secretary of Energy Perry of that yesterday—but, in the meantime, until that technology—by the way, it is sinful that we have not developed that technology, which we are capable of, that could eat this waste—but until we do, having safe storage at Yucca Mountain makes all the sense to me and is safe for my constituents. 1:17:07 Representative Rick Allen (GA): Mr. Speaker, I have the great honor of representing Georgia’s 12th Congressional District, which is home to every nuclear reactor in our state, and we are leading the way in the new nuclear. At Plant Vogtle, in my district, there are thousands of spent fuel rods being held in spent fuel pools and dry cask storage containers, and in the next few years we’re going to double the number of nuclear reactors online at Vogtle. Hearing: House Hearing; Forests Act, November 1, 2017. 3:02:49 Representative Bruce Poliquin (MA): Now, H.R. 2936 brings federal regulations in line with this new technology and new standards of safety by allowing family-owned logging business the ability to train 16- and 17-year-olds under very close supervision of their parents. 3:23:31 Representative Greg Walden (OR): In Oregon, this bill would take away arbitrary prohibition on harvesting trees over 21 inches in diameter. It’s tied the hands of our forest managers. 3:28:00 Representative Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA): I represent the Colville National Forest, which is about a million-acre forest. It’s really the engine of our economy in the Northwest, because what happens on the Colville National Forest determines whether or not we have Vaagen’s lumber or 49 Degrees North ski resort or the biomass facility that Avista runs, converting wood waste into electricity. This is all providing jobs, energy, recreational opportunities. Yet mills have been closed, jobs have been lost. It’s unacceptable. It’s time to pass the Resilient Federal Forests legislation. 5:32:57 Representative Jeff Denham (CA): The Resilient Federal Forests Act gives us the tools to immediately reduce the threat of catastrophic wildfires. It allows us to expedite the removal of dead trees and rapidly mitigate disease-infested areas. 5:41:58 Representative Louie Gohmert (TX): If you want to just leave it to nature, nature will destroy massive numbers of acres of land. So we have a responsibility. Even in the Garden of Eden when things were perfect, God said, tend the garden. 6:06:29 Representative Raul Grijalva (AZ): This is not the first time we have seen the bill, this piece of legislation. House Republicans sent a version to the Senate in the 113th and the 114th Congress, where it languished on the shelf because our colleagues on the other side of the Capitol found it too extreme. Rather than view that experience as an opportunity to seek compromise, this time around, today, we are considering a bill that is even more extreme and polarizing. They doubled the environmental review waivers, added language to undermine the Endangered Species Act, and scaled back protections for national monuments and roadless areas. 6:07:39 Representative Raul Grijalva (AZ): But this bill is not about forest health or wildfire mitigation; it’s about increasing the number of trees removed from our forests. 6:18:24 Representative Tom McClintock (CA): You know, there’s an old adage that excess timber comes out of the forest one way or the other—it’s either carried out or it burns out. When we carried it out, we had resilient, healthy forests and a thriving economy, as excess timber was sold and harvested before it could choke our forests to death. In the years since then, we’ve seen an 80 percent decline in timber sales from our federal lands and a concomitant increase in acreage destroyed by forest fire. I would remind my friend from Oregon that timber sales used to generate us money, not cost us money. The direct revenues and spin-off commerce generated by these sales provided a stream of revenues that we could then use to improve our national forests and share with the local communities affected. 6:22:38 Representative Jared Huffman (CA): Title I of this bill allows intensive logging projects of 10,000 to 30,000 acres each. That’s as big as the entire city of San Francisco. Projects of that size can proceed on federal public lands without any environmental review under NEPA, without any compliance with the Endangered Species Act. Title II of the bill eliminates the requirement that the Forest Service consult with the Fish and Wildlife Service; essentially, lets the Forest Service decide for itself if it wants to follow the Endangered Species Act consultation requirements regarding any of its projects on public lands. Title III further chokes judicial review by prohibiting the recovery of attorneys' fees for any challenges to forest management activity under the Equal Access to Justice Act, including meritorious successful challenges. This severely limits public review of logging projects on federal public lands. Hearing: Examining patient access to investigational drugs, Energy & Commerce, October 3, 2017. House Session: Legislative Day of January 4, 2017, Houselive.gov 4:15:30 - Rep. Darrell Issa (CA) "For the freshmen of either party, when you go to make a vote on this, re-member, we are not changing the un-derlying law. Only one regulation under the underlying law has ever been repealed, and it was bipartisan in both the House and the Senate when it was repealed. It has been 16 years, and the few that will likely be considered under this act and the underlying law will be just that, a relatively few regulations that are believed to be unnecessary and for which the House, the Senate, and the President concur.   Video: Josh Lyman Sick of Congress, YouTube, July 23, 2012. The Inconvenient Truth About the Democratic Party Did you know that the Democratic Party defended slavery, started the Civil War, founded the KKK, and fought against every major civil rights act in U.S. history? Watch as Carol Swain, professor of political science at Vanderbilt University, shares the inconvenient history of the Democratic Party. When you think about racial equality and civil rights, which political party comes to mind? The Republicans? Or, the Democrats? Most people would probably say the Democrats. But this answer is incorrect.   Since its founding in 1829, the Democratic Party has fought against every major civil rights initiative, and has a long history of discrimination. The Democratic Party defended slavery, started the Civil War, opposed Reconstruction, founded the Ku Klux Klan, imposed segregation, perpetrated lynchings, and fought against the civil rights acts of the 1950s and 1960s. In contrast, the Republican Party was founded in 1854 as an anti-slavery party. Its mission was to stop the spread of slavery into the new western territories with the aim of abolishing it entirely. This effort, however, was dealt a major blow by the Supreme Court. In the 1857 case Dred Scott v. Sandford, the court ruled that slaves aren’t citizens; they’re property. The seven justices who voted in favor of slavery? All Democrats. The two justices who dissented? Both Republicans. The slavery question was, of course, ultimately resolved by a bloody civil war. The commander-in-chief during that war was the first Republican President, Abraham Lincoln – the man who freed the slaves. Six days after the Confederate army surrendered, John Wilkes Booth, a Democrat, assassinated President Lincoln. Lincoln’s vice president, a Democrat named Andrew Johnson, assumed the presidency. But Johnson adamantly opposed Lincoln’s plan to integrate the newly freed slaves into the South’s economic and social order. Johnson and the Democratic Party were unified in their opposition to the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery; the 14th Amendment, which gave blacks citizenship; and the 15th Amendment, which gave blacks the vote. All three passed only because of universal Republican support. During the era of Reconstruction, federal troops stationed in the south helped secure rights for the newly freed slaves. Hundreds of black men were elected to southern state legislatures as Republicans, and 22 black Republicans served in the US Congress by 1900. The Democrats did not elect a black man to Congress until 1935. But after Reconstruction ended, when the federal troops went home, Democrats roared back into power in the South. They quickly reestablished white supremacy across the region with measures like black codes – laws that restricted the ability of blacks to own property and run businesses. And they imposed poll taxes and literacy tests, used to subvert the black citizen’s right to vote. And how was all of this enforced? By terror -- much of it instigated by the Ku Klux Klan, founded by a Democrat, Nathan Bedford Forrest. As historian Eric Foner - himself a Democrat - notes: “In effect, the Klan was a military force serving the interests of the Democratic Party.” President Woodrow Wilson, a Democrat, shared many views with the Klan. He re-segregated many federal agencies, and even screened the first movie ever played at the White House - the racist film “The Birth of a Nation,” originally entitled “The Clansman.” A few decades later, the only serious congressional opposition to the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1964 came from Democrats. Eighty percent of Republicans in Congress supported the bill. Less than 70 percent of Democrats did. Democratic senators filibustered the bill for 75 days, until Republicans mustered the few extra votes needed to break the logjam. And when all of their efforts to enslave blacks, keep them enslaved, and then keep them from voting had failed, the Democrats came up with a new strategy: If black people are going to vote, they might as well vote for Democrats. As President Lyndon Johnson was purported to have said about the Civil Rights Act, “I’ll have them n*****s voting Democrat for two hundred years.” So now, the Democratic Party prospers on the votes of the very people it has spent much of its history oppressing. Democrats falsely claim that the Republican Party is the villain, when in reality it’s the failed policies of the Democratic Party that have kept blacks down. Massive government welfare has decimated the black family. Opposition to school choice has kept them trapped in failing schools.  Politically correct policing has left black neighborhoods defenseless against violent crime. So, when you think about racial equality and civil rights, which political party should come to mind? I’m Carol Swain, professor of political science and law at Vanderbilt University, for Prager University.
