Friends, we come to the Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, and we're going to finish our reading of the thirteenth chapter of Matthew's Gospel, which deals with the parables. Jesus's parables cut to the heart of the matter and convey the truth of the kingdom, and the two we hear today—the parable of the hidden treasure and the parable of the pearl—are really good examples. Both are about the summum bonum, the highest good, and therefore about what's most fundamental in the spiritual life. Indeed, this is life itself; this is what it's all about!
Comedians Laurie Kilmartin (Jimmy Kimmel Live, Conan, Cis Woke Grief Sl*t) and Sydney Kane (Wife Material, Millennial Jenny, Barney & Friends) join Jameela to see who can out mortify the other.Laurie confesses to screaming obscenities at the wrong side of a protest, then rewinds to the school yearbook comments that got her shunned for all of eighth grade. Sydney details the make-up shopping spree that ended with four cops, an eight hour holding cell, and her entire college group chat finding out before she did.Jameela shares her own tale of being ignored at school, the group compares notes on strategically pretending to be asleep, and a Misery Loves Company listener's egg throwing scheme backfires spectacularly.Laurie brings her stand-up to London's Soho Theatre July 27th and 28th.Jameela's Substack is A Low Desire To Please, you can also find her on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. Our consulting producer is Colin Anderson.Wrong Turns was created and produced by Jameela Jamil and Stewart Bailey. Everyone heard "grand jury" and filled in the rest themselves. Charges must be coming. Someone is about to be arrested. The system is finally moving. Except the Jackson County DA clarified the same day: referring a case to a grand jury is the default pathway when a death in the county cannot be readily explained. The referral itself does not mean law enforcement suspects foul play. This episode cuts through the noise and explains what a Mississippi grand jury actually does. Not the social media interpretation. The real one — where a panel of citizens convened by a circuit court judge reviews evidence in a sealed proceeding and decides whether probable cause exists to bring formal charges.Probable cause is the lowest bar in the system. Clearing it does not produce a guilty verdict. It produces a formal charge — an indictment — and the case then moves to a trial with an entirely different jury and a much higher standard of proof. What makes the grand jury significant in this case is a tool most observers skip past: the authority to subpoena witnesses. Every person summoned enters that sealed room individually. They swear an oath. Their lawyer stays outside. And the questions they face carry legal consequences if they lie. In a case where the group that went to Horn Island with Nolan has offered stories that directly contradict a separate witness, that forced testimony — solo, sworn, behind closed doors — could produce clarity that no press conference ever will.Autopsy results from two separate examinations remain outstanding. The agreed-upon joint review of Nolan's cellphone data has not occurred. Witness accounts remain unreconciled. Whether the grand jury has what it needs to act depends on how much of that evidence is assembled before the case lands on their table.END LINKS:Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski | True Crime News & Commentary
The DA informed Nolan Wells' family that the case will go before a grand jury. The internet heard "criminal charges." The DA's office meant something else entirely — a procedural checkpoint Jackson County applies to any death that remains unexplained. One of those readings made national news. The other disappeared. This episode lays out how the Mississippi grand jury system actually functions, what authority it holds, and why the distance between public expectation and legal reality could shape whether this family ever gets answers.Mississippi runs its grand juries behind a wall. A panel of citizens drawn from the county's voter rolls sits with only the prosecutor and called witnesses. Defense lawyers are barred. So are defendants, journalists, and the public. Most Mississippi grand juries do not even use a court reporter — no transcript exists. When the panel deliberates and votes, the prosecutor exits the room. The jurors decide alone.Three outcomes are possible: formal charges, outright dismissal, or a decision to table the case for a future court term. None requires a public explanation. But the grand jury also wields investigative muscle that most observers overlook — it can compel any witness to appear, testify solo and under oath, with no attorney beside them. That authority matters here. The friends who boated to Horn Island with Nolan and returned without him have offered competing versions of what happened. A young woman on the island says Nolan planned to head back with the group. The group says he wanted to stay. Somebody is wrong. A grand jury is built to answer exactly that kind of question — behind closed doors, under penalty of perjury, one witness at a time. The state and independent autopsies are both outstanding. The phone data has not been reviewed. The evidence file is still incomplete — and what is in it when those jurors sit down will dictate every outcome that follows.END LINKS:Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Send me a some feedback! What if the only thing standing between you and the life you truly want is permission? In this episode, Mike Kitko explores one of the most profound realizations from his work with entrepreneurs, leaders, and high performers: the people who transform their lives aren't waiting for better circumstances—they finally give themselves permission to become, do, ask for, receive, and feel what they've wanted all along. Through powerful personal stories and client transformations, Mike explains why permission is the gateway to receiving. Whether it's building a dream business, feeling financially secure, expressing your authentic self, or asking for what you want, lasting change begins the moment you stop waiting for someone else's approval and start giving yourself permission. Key Takeaways1. Permission Is the Beginning of Receiving Receiving doesn't begin with circumstances changing—it begins with a decision. The moment you give yourself permission to want, ask for, receive, and feel what you truly desire, your life begins to change. 2. Most People Are Waiting for Permission They Already Have Whether it's starting a business, changing careers, speaking up, or pursuing a dream, many people remain stuck because they're waiting for someone else to validate what only they can authorize. 3. Your Nervous System Will Resist Growth Growth feels uncomfortable because your nervous system prefers what's familiar. Learning to move through that discomfort is part of becoming more receptive to life. 4. Receiving Includes More Than Money Receiving means allowing yourself to experience confidence, fulfillment, peace, security, significance, love, and every other internal state you've been postponing until "someday." 5. You Become Free the Moment You Stop Waiting You don't need permission from your parents, your boss, your spouse, society, or anyone else. The freedom you've been searching for begins the moment you give yourself permission. Notable Quotes"You don't need permission to be who you want to be, to do what you want to do, to want what you want, to ask for what you want, to receive what you want, or even to feel what you'd rather feel. The only permission you've ever truly needed is your own.""I didn't build Melanie's business. I didn't build Corey's business. I didn't build Matt's business. They did all the work. What I gave them was permission—the permission they wouldn't give themselves—and that became the spark that changed everything.""Receiving starts with one single decision, and that's to give yourself permission to want what you want, ask for what you want, receive what you want, feel what you want, be who you want, and do what you want. It all begins with permission.""Sometimes the greatest act of receiving is giving yourself permission to ask for what you want. I don't need anyone else's permission to invite someone into my work—I only need to give myself permission to be on the receiving end of life.""If you do need permission, then consider this your permission to be who you want, do what you want, want what you want, ask for what you want, receive what you want, and most importantly, feel what you want. Why would you settle for anything less?"Call to ActionIf this episode challenged the way you've thought about permission, spend a few moments reflecting on where you've been waiting for someone else to approve the life you already know you're meant to live. Where have you been withholding permission from yourself? What would change if you simply decided that today was the day you gave it to yourself? If you're ready to stop waiting and finally become fully receptive to the life that's calling you, join Mike for the Built to Give, Rebuilt to Receive Workshop on August 28–29, just outside of St. Louis, Missouri. Hey Heal Squad! Today's conversation is SO important… especially as we are in the middle of summer! Friends… did you know that drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 4? Wild, right? We protect our children with the safest car seats, seat belts, and vehicles available, yet when it comes to water, many families don't have the same layers of protection. So this summer, let's make our backyards safer. And save some lives while we're at it.Today we are joined by Pamela Baldwin, a swim instructor with over 25 years of experience and the founder of FINtastic Swim School. Maria has been taking swim and water safety intensives with her recently, and it sparked one of the most eye-opening experiences of her life. In this episode, Pam breaks down everything we think we know about water safety and where we're getting it wrong. We talk about what drowning actually looks like (nothing like the movies), why your pool fence isn't enough on its own, the safety equipment every pool owner needs within arm's reach, and the one thing you bring to the pool every single time that you trust completely… that could actually make things worse. We also do a full myth-or-fact on swim safety, and we talk about the profound Drowning in Silence….the documentary we are asking every single one of you to watch. It is hard. It is beautiful. It will change you. And if this episode sparks any safety action in you, be sure to shop Pam's W.A.T.E.R. Ambassador Essentials. These are the tools and resources every family should have to protect the people they love most around any body of water. Because let's be real… water safety starts with a conversation. So start the conversation today and help create a safer tomorrow.#StartTheConversationToday #IAmWaterAware #WaterSafety #DrowningPrevention #WATERAmbassador HEALERS & HEAL LINERS 4 Water Safety Tips To Protect Your Family: Recognize what drowning actually looks like, it's silent, not splashing; Identify what's keeping your child safe versus what's giving you false security; Equip your pool with the right safety tools; Learn CPR and build a family emergency action plan before you need one Drowning doesn't make a sound. In real life drowning is fast, it is silent, and it almost always happens with someone nearby, 88% of the time, in fact. The single most powerful thing you can do is understand what it actually looks like. Telling one person what you learned today is an act of love. Water safety starts with awareness, but it doesn't end there. Every conversation, every added layer of protection, and every swim lesson makes a difference. Text this episode to a parent, a grandparent, or a neighbor with a pool. Pam has spent 25 years trying to reach families one at a time. We all want closer friendships, but too few of us are actually having the conversations that would get us there. This week Em and Cass answer a listener question about how to have hard conversations with friends, and get into the years they spent hiding things from each other: postpartum shame, a months-long sex-life crisis, feeling left out, feeling jealous, feeling like too much. They read the community polls (68% of you have lied about how good your sex life is, 85% of you have hidden a relationship problem from your friends because you didn't want them to judge your partner) and answer five anonymous confessions, from the friend who's secretly not excited when her friends get pregnant, to the woman who hooked up with her friend's boyfriend before they started dating, to the one where you don't know how to tell your friend she isn't showing up. For anyone who's been biting their tongue with their best friend because they were scared of what the honesty would cost, this epi is for you, babe. Lisa Kudrow (Friends, The Comeback) reveals some of the most astonishing stories and ideas she's ever shared publicly, from mysterious messages received after her mother's passing to profound spiritual experiences that challenged her understanding of reality itself.Lisa opens up about supernatural events surrounding her mom's death, the unexplained text messages she received from beyond, and her family's experiences with an energy worker, including a remarkable moment when her son seemingly communicated that he was okay. She also shares why she was captivated by The Telepathy Tapes and why she believes "there's something going on" beyond our current scientific understanding. She explores what she learned about the nature of reality through playing "Phoebe Buffay", whether childhood imaginary friends might not be imaginary after all, and her thought-provoking perspective on why we're here, and why perhaps we're not meant to fully understand the spiritual side of existence.Lisa also discusses concrete examples of how spirituality can provide guidance when modern science falls short, the role of intuition and her inner voice in shaping her life's biggest decisions, and her mind-bending theories about possible causes of dementia and Alzheimer's disease. The conversation dives deep into creativity, consciousness, and human connection as Lisa explains why acting is ultimately an exercise in empathy, whether great actors may actually be channeling real people, and how portraying "Phoebe" transformed the way she thinks about life, consciousness, and the unseen world around us.Lisa also reflects on recently watching Friends episodes for the first time, revealing how her perspective on "Phoebe" has changed over the years, and shares the invaluable lessons her co-stars taught her about openness, playfulness, and unlocking creativity as an actor. She discusses why she chose acting over medical school, how those career-defining decisions unfolded, and what her intuition continues to tell her about future entertainment projects.Plus, Lisa breaks down why she loves Mayim Bialik's Breakdown and The Big Bang Theory series, and explains why specific episodes resonated with her so deeply, including conversations with Thomas Campbell, Anita Moorjani, Dr. James B. Glattfelder, Dr. Ellen Langer, Dr. Kevin Knuth, and Dr. Tara Swart.Enjoy Lisa's deeply personal exploration of the mysteries that exist at the edges of science, spirituality, creativity, and human experience, as she reflects on life's biggest questions—from consciousness and intuition to grief, purpose, and the possibility of something beyond what we can currently explain!Follow us on Substack for Exclusive Bonus Content: https://bialikbreakdown.substack.com/BialikBreakdown.comYouTube.com/mayimbialikIf you're struggling with OCD or unrelenting intrusive thoughts, NOCD can help. TODAY'S QUESTION: Hi Fellas, My group of friends from high school wanted to rent a house for a week by a lake and relive our glory days. I was the most enthusiastic when planning started and said I would be there the whole week. Now the house is rented and it's a 2.5 hour drive. I have a job currently and already took the vacation block for the whole week. I have been applying for better jobs, but did not expect anything in today's job market. I applied and interviewed to the perfect job. Promotion, raise, easier commute, better work life balance, everything. I was given a job offer but they want me to start the Monday of the lake weekend. Now I'm looking for advice. Thanks, Troy Tulowitski (My real name is ***** but I would prefer to stay anonymous and thought you would appreciate the Rockies reference.) Everybody arguing about the Nolan Wells case online is arguing about the wrong hour. Not the autopsy. Not the phone. The boat ride home — the moment a group of eighteen-year-olds untied from a barrier island and left one of their own behind on it.Horn Island sits about ten miles off Ocean Springs, Mississippi. The National Park Service keeps it undeveloped. There is no shelter out there, no drinking water, no store, no cell tower. For one day a year it's the best party on the coast. Every other hour of the year it's empty, and after dark on the Fourth it goes right back to empty.Nolan Wells was a college wide receiver, eighteen years old, out there with kids he grew up with. They came home. He was found in the water two days later by a National Park Service ranger, off the island's northwestern tip.Tony reads the mailbag straight. Nobody wrote in asking about tide charts. They wrote in asking how you get on a boat and look at an empty seat and pull away from the dock. They wrote in asking whether anybody counted. They wrote in asking what that island offers a person who's still on it at midnight, alone, with no way to call anyone. The sheriff's office has said a friend reached the Coast Guard that night and that Nolan's mother called the sheriff's office soon after. Officials have said they believe he drowned while simultaneously insisting the work to determine what actually occurred is ongoing. No cause of death has been released. Ben Crump is investigating for the family. A grand jury is coming. The island first. Then everything else.END_LINKS:Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Ken learns that Shedeur Sanders' inner circle and some fans are upset over comments questioning whether his off-field ventures could be affecting his focus on football, and pushes back hard, insisting he never said anything unfair. He and Anthony dig into whether it's normal for a young quarterback to juggle modeling, music and reality TV while fighting for a starting job, and question the oddly specific claim that Shedeur works out four times a day. The conversation also touches on the short film where Shedeur says old friends stopped reaching out once things got hard in Cleveland, with Ken arguing that reaction is understandable rather than mean-spirited. It closes with Ken standing by his takes and refusing to back down from the backlash.

Subscribe at thecyclingpodcast.comThe fifth instalment of our wall-to-wall, behind-the-scenes look at Paul Seixas's début Tour de France begins where Seixas's love affair with cycling and the Tour also started, in Magland, just a few kilometres from the stage 15 finish on the Plateau de Solaison. It was indeed an intense and emotional few days for the 19-year-old, as Daniel Friebe reports in this episode. As always, we hear from team-mates, coaches and opponents, as Seixas underlines his credentials as the man most likely to end Tadej Pogačar's reign. Of course no one is any closer to knowing when that will be, or indeed how Pogačar will fall or abdicate.

What if couples devastated by sexual betrayal could heal together instead of separately? Clinton and Charity Muñoz expose a massive gap in traditional porn recovery's focus on sexual addiction for husbands and betrayal trauma for wives that leaves couples without guidance on how to actually restore their relationship in community. Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski | True Crime News & Commentary
Nolan Wells went to Horn Island on the Fourth of July with a group of friends. They came back. He didn't. Two days later, his body was pulled from the water by a park ranger — and the people closest to him started offering different accounts of what happened. The Wells family says his Snapchat data was wiped after his death. The FBI is running forensics on his phone. Over sixty witnesses have been interviewed. Death threats linked to the case are under separate investigation. And the friends who left Nolan behind on a federally protected island without water or transportation have given investigators stories that contradict each other.Jennifer Coffindaffer, a retired FBI Special Agent, joins Tony and Robin to examine the cracks forming between the friends' public statements and the facts investigators are piecing together. She addresses the Snapchat allegation directly — whether it constitutes evidence of a cover-up or whether there are plausible explanations — and what it means that the FBI is involved but maintains the local sheriff has jurisdiction despite Horn Island being federal land. The case is being investigated as a death — not yet classified as a crime. But the distance between what the friends are saying and what the evidence appears to show is growing. Coffindaffer walks through what that gap means from an investigative standpoint and why the next thirty days may determine whether anyone is ever held accountable for leaving an eighteen-year-old alone on an island.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video?
