A Golden Age Hollywood star in every sense, at just 16 Ruta Lee was  cast in the all-time great movie musical, 'Seven Brides for Seven Brothers', subsequently becoming the designated smoldering beauty, spicy sexpot and fiery vixen in  iconic TV Westerns, mysteries and dramas of  the '50s and '60s. She is celebrating her 90th birthday in classic Ruta fashion: with a one-woman show, fabulously titled 'Consider Your Ass Kissed! This week she brings her legendary inside showbiz lore and boundless energy to the Media Path studio!Ruta's story begins with her Lithuanian background and parents who escaped the oppression of the Communist regime to Montreal, Quebec, where Ruta was born, singing and dancing. Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth Interview with Founding Member of The Four Preps, Bruce Belland About Harvey's guests: Today's guest, Bruce Belland, is a founding member of one of America's most popular and beloved vocal groups, commonly referred to as America's First Boy Band, The Four Preps.   As young teenage students at Hollywood High in 1954, our guest, along with singing partners Glen Larson, Ed Cobb and Marv Ingram, entered a high school talent show, and they kept on performing at high schools until that fateful day in 1956, when they were signed to a recording contract at Capitol Records, making them the youngest vocal group in history to ever sign with a major record label.   They recorded dozens of classic songs and produced 8 gold singles and 3 gold albums featuring their signature tunes, “Dreamy Eyes”, "26 Miles (Santa Catalina)," "Big Man," "Lazy Summer Night," “Down By the Station”, “More Money for You and Me”, and many more.   In 1957, Cashbox Magazine named The Four Preps the Most Promising Newcomer of the Year.  They made numerous appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show, American Bandstand and many other TV variety shows, in addition to singing backup for Ricky Nelson for 4 years on “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet”.  And of course, they appeared with Sandra Dee in the 1959 movie, “Gidget”.  And they sang the theme song from the 1957 Clark Gable movie, “Band of Angels”.   The Four Preps headlined at nightclubs, concert halls and college campuses across the country, and toured with everyone from Tennessee Ernie Ford, George Burns and Carol Channing to Henry Mancini, Johnny Mathis, Buddy Rich and Glen Campbell.  They received an official commendation from the Air Force for their extraordinary contribution to National Guard Recruitment.  And in 2007, they were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame.    And now, our guest has released a fascinating and highly entertaining memoir entitled, “Icons, Idols and Idiots of Hollywood:  My Adventures in America's First Boy Band.”   This delightful book details our guest's remarkable show business journey, full of great anecdotes, many colourful adventures, and poignant memories of pop culture history.  And let me tell you, the chapter about his hilarious experience filming a TV commercial with Annette Funicello at Disneyland is easily worth ten times the price of the book.    For more interviews and podcasts go to: https://www.harveybrownstoneinterviews.com/ To see more about Bruce Belland, go to:https://www.brucebelland.com/ https://the4preps.wixsite.com/thefourprepshttps://www.facebook.com/BruceBelland https://www.facebook.com/the4prepshttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UC9J0TACPReX2IRCFPgDStZwhttps://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/the-four-preps/19280148https://open.spotify.com/artist/5MsnoFODDc5nxWrjm99Zew https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=the+four+preps #BruceBelland   #TheFourPreps  #harveybrownstoneinterviews

Today our guest is Ruta Lee, one of Hollywood's most multifaceted and top-notched civic contributors. Born in Montreal, Lee is the daughter of a Lithuanian tailor. While at Hollywood High, Lee's career in show business began at the famed Grauman's Chinese Theatre… as an usherette, then candy girl. She was quickly promoted to box office cashier and just as quickly fired. Her dancing was better than her math. She vowed to return to that famous courtyard (years later, talent and serendipity placed her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, directly in front of that box office from which she was fired). Soon after, she was signed by MGM as the youngest of the Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and subsequently in Funny Face with Fred Astaire and Audrey Hepburn, as Tyrone Power's secret love in Witness for the Prosecution, and Frank Sinatra's leading lady in Sergeant's Three, to name but a few of the many films in her credits. Simultaneously, Lee launched into television, with over 2000 appearances on shows from Perry Mason to Power Rangers, Twilight Zone to Murder She Wrote, Hogan's Heroes to Love Boat, and Roseanne. Lee was also co-host on NBC's High Rollers with Alex Trebek, and a regular on Hollywood Squares with Peter Marshall. Ms Lee's connection to her roots in Lithuania, stem from her grandmother, whose release from Siberia made international headlines, and the subject in her recently released, best-selling memoir title Consider Your Ass Kissed. A title referencing the actions required and gratitude for the monumental effort to bring her family to America from Russia during the Cold War. At the time her grandmother made all the news and even went on Johnny Carson with her. Lee is highly acclaimed for her leadership role in The Thalians, a charitable organization which is committed to good mental health from pediatric to geriatric. She has been either chairman or president for over 45 years… roles exchanged between herself and Debbie Reynolds. The Thalians honored Ruta Lee for her dedication to mental health, where she joined the ranks of previous honorees, Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Mary Tyler Moore, Whoopi Goldberg, Angela Lansbury and and Clint Eastwood, to name just a few. Recently, the legendary actress received Lithuania's highest honor from President Valdas Adamkus at a magnificent ceremony in the Vilnius Presidential Palace. Her famous Hollywood Estate served as the perfect backdrop to receive a visit from the Lithuanian President and First Lady, with Lithuanian Ambassador To the US Audra Plepyte in attendance. The President and First Lady remarked on how the visit to the estate gave them the rare experience of Hollywood's golden era, as the former home of entertainment icons, Rita Hayworth and Orson Wells.  In addition to the Hollywood luminaries that were imagined to have gathered at galas in the estates palacios living room, or having dinners of 20 or more in the dinning hall, as well as the thought of Ms Hayworth and Mr Wells themselves making an entrance on the grand staircase, is like stepping back in time, as mental images of Citizen Kane come to mind. www.rutalee.com https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/consider-your-ass-kissed-ruta-lee/1139109864

Michael Joseph Farrell was born on February 6, 1939 in St. Paul, Minnesota. At the age of 2 a move to Hollywood, where his father's work as a studio carpenter provided young Mike's first glimpse of the world behind the studio walls, began his fascination with the "movies, one he has never fully lost. After graduating from Hollywood High and a hitch in the Marines, he worked a number of jobs - including a stint as private investigator - while pursuing a career as an actor, beginning with small parts in films like "The Graduate" and "The Americanization of Emily". Stage roles and small parts on TV eventually landed him in the soap "Days of Our Lives", where he starred as Scott Banning for two years. "Days" was followed by leading roles in two series, "The Interns" and "The Man and The City," then a four-year contract with Universal Pictures. Mike is best known for playing Captain B.J. Hunnicutt in the ever popular series M*A*S*H. His eight years with the memorable show allowed the opportunity to both write and direct several episodes, earning him nominations for Director's Guild and Emmy Awards. His first production experience outside of ""M*A*S*H was the CBS-TV film "Memorial Day", in which he starred opposite Shelley Fabares. On the documentary front, among many others, Farrell co-hosted "Saving the Wildlife" for PBS, hosted "The Best of the National Geographic Specials" and had a great adventure scuba diving with his children, Michael and Erin, among hundreds of sharks in French Polynesia for "The World of Audubon". On December 31, 1984 Mike married actress Shelley Fabares (star of ABC-TVs "Coach") Together with partner Marvin Minoff he formed 'Farrell/Minoff productions'. Farrell/Minoff's first production was "Dominick and Eugene", a film starring Tom Hulce and Ray Liotta. After making a number of TV movies, one of their more recent productions is "Patch Adams", starring Robin Williams. Beyond the film industry, Mike is a very active and outspoken citizen. Promoting human rights and opposing the death penalty are two of his prime concerns, making him a regular lecturer to interested audiences. In 1996 Mike was presented the Valentine Davies Award by the Writers Guild of America, given to members: "whose contribution to the entertainment industry and the community-at-large have brought dignity and honor to writers everywhere." In February 1998 Farrell was appointed to a three-year term on the Commission on Judicial Performance, an 11 member California State Commission that adjudicates complaints against judges in the state. 1998 also brought him NBC-TV"'s "Providence" playing veterinarian Jim Hansen with cast-mates Melina Kanakaredes, Concetta Tomei, Paula Cale and Seth Peterson. In 2002 Mike was elected First Vice President of the Screen Actors Guild in Los Angeles and served three years in that capacity. In 2004 he received the Donald Wright Award from California Attorneys for Criminal Justice, only the third time in its 28 year history that the award has been presented to a recipient who was neither a lawyer nor a judge. In his spare time Mike loves to read, spend time with his wife and kids and enjoys cross-country motorcycling. His bike trips have crisscrossed, amongst others, the US, Canada, Australia and Europe.- www.mikefarrell.com

(Today's edition comes with an audio edition! Listen to today's nine-minute story by clicking the play tab above.)A quick diversion from photography and my recent dive into family history today to take a minute and marvel at a news bite from this week. (There is a photo angle, but you'll need to read all the way through to get there. Bear with me!) Newsflash! Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, the two longtime Hollywood trade publications, are now corporate siblings. Wow! This is like Coke swallowing Pepsi. Or Toyota bringing Nissan into the fold. Hard to believe. The company that owns Variety snapped up THR as well. Read on and you'll see why I think this is such a huge deal. As you may or may not know, at an earlier time in my life, I was a THR reporter, at a time when Variety was king and THR was a very weak, No. 2. Competition was fierce, unlike anything I ever experienced anywhere else, at any other time. Like heart-thumping, every morning intense. Each night I would go to sleep, hoping I wouldn't be scooped in the morning. I'd wake up, and that's all I could still think about, with a pit in my stomach, on the drive into Hollywood. I'd arrive to the offices on Sunset Blvd., in-between Hollywood High and the Corners of the World building, breathing heavily, and immediately grabbing what was awaiting me, on my desk. The latest issue of Daily Variety, already marked up in red pencil. The stories that were on my beat were highlighted, and the subtext was simple: why didn't you have this too?Because Variety and THR were so competitive, the Variety reporters told their sources that if they “gave” their story to us, they wouldn't be noted in the Show-Biz Bible. And Variety played really hard. Sometimes, they gave an inch, and agreed to note the story. It would appear on the next to last page, as a two-to-four paragraph short. It was that rough. Variety, of course had the storied history that created such pieces of slang as the words “Boffo,” (for great) “Biopic,” (biography) and “Nix” (for reject.) The famous headline “Sticks Nix Hick Pix,” was immortalized in the George M. Cohan biopic, “Yankee Doodle Dandy.” THR had the Rambling Reporter (and the late Robert Osborne before he became….that Robert Osborne.)A Variety front page article, a mention in Army Archerd's column, those were the places Hollywood power wanted to be. THR was an afterthought, but one they indeed wanted as well. The two Trade papers had small circulations of around 15,000 each. But talk about influencers! Every subscriber was the ultimate influencer, from studio chiefs, to network heads, show buyers and schedulers, producers and other industry “pros” who wanted to be in the know. My phone rang every morning between 9 a.m. and 9:15 with an intensity I never would see anywhere else in my career. Ever. The feedback was amazing and instantaneous, and the screaming was at high-level decibels. My job was to get an exclusive. Or at least the same story, day and date. My competitor was a crusty reporter, now deceased, named Morrie Gelman. He was a veteran with the best Rolodex in town, or so it seemed to me. I was young and learned on the job, by going to lunch with sources every day, and attending every industry function there was. I didn't care about anyone else than Morrie. If the LA Times got a scoop, it was irrelevant. If Time or Newsweek wrote about something, it was old news. Variety was all that mattered to me. THR was founded in 1930 by Billy Wilkerson, a one-time owner of the Ciro's nightclub on the Sunset Strip as his answer to Variety, which had begun in 1905 as a New York based weekly chronicler of vaudeville and theater. The L.A. version, “Daily” Variety, started up in 1933. The trades were mostly about casting news, executive appointments, labor updates and “slate” stories. Like that Paramount was set to produce 8 new films in the coming year. It would go on to name them, and the attached producers and talent. But it was the exec appointments that were the lifeblood, because it told our subscribers who was in, and who was out. In other words, whom could they call on? My beat was home video and pay TV, two areas that were brand new, at a time when new channels like MTV and Disney Channel were launching. HBO was becoming a force in Hollywood, and the studios hated them back then. I reported that, and HBO despised me. I went out to lunch every day, pulling up to the valet in my white, beaten up and really dirty Mazda that was covered head to toe with bumper stickers. I arrived to fancy places like the Polo Lounge, Brown Derby, Jimmy's, the Palm and other long gone industry hang-outs because that's where the people I interviewed wanted to meet. Even with the THR/Variety rivalry, plenty of people were happy to talk to me. I just couldn't reach the top caliber as often as Variety did. Meanwhile, things were pretty crazy in the newsroom. Gina, Rena and Tina were three of the reporters, and every time one of their names was called out, they all turned and said, “Yes?” One of the sales associates, Pat, was all over the newsroom, daily, urging us to cozy up to her advertisers and write glowing pieces about them. Especially during AFM time. AFM was the American Film Market, and it was a venue where cheap independent movies were brokered in suites at a Sunset Strip hotel. Producers got attention for their shlocky titles by buying full page ads in THR. Menahem Golan and his Cannon Films was our benefactor. I didn't write about movies. But I wrote about Menahem. It was mandatory. He was a big advertiser. He paid our salaries. (Some of his films included titles like “Hospital Massacre” and “Enter the Ninja,” along with some “Death Wish” sequels and a Sylvester Stallone vehicle about arm wrestling called “Over the Top.”My first editor was fired after the publisher's daughter requested to have her boyfriend installed as editor instead. They married a year later, and when they returned from the honeymoon, the publisher fired her new son-in-law. No reason given. I left soon after. In recent times, THR engineered what seemed to be an amazing comeback, investing millions, switching from daily publication to online focus and producing a once a week glossy magazine that was like Vanity Fair with more of an industry bent. Variety, meanwhile, lost its muscle and took a backseat to the two hot online “trades” of the internet era, Deadline and TheWrap. Meanwhile, all that money THR spent on expansion wasn't paying off. The company had some big layoffs earlier this year, and now, it's part of the Penske Media Group. Which also owns Deadline and Billboard too. The only independent left is TheWrap. It's all so sad. But at least the THR reporters don't have to endure having their rivals stories circled anymore. P.S. And speaking of the photo angleIn keeping with the Photowalk theme of this newsletter, where are my great photos of the newsroom? I can only find one roll of Black & White Tri-X that was snapped during this time period, on a contact sheet. First of all, shame on me, for not being more proactive. But look at how far we've come folks! Back then, you had a choice of pro-level 35mm cameras, which were hard to operate for most people. “Disposable” cardboard cameras began appearing in the 1980s, but they were only used for special occasions and places with great light. So for everyday life, most of us never bothered. Compare that to now, where everyone you know has a camera in their pocket, and you can ask anyone to grab a shot of you with no issues. And the smartphone cameras are so good, they can shoot in pretty much any kind of light. Still, I would have loved to illustrate this post with historical images from the newsroom. For those of you reading, who may be in this position in a few years, some friendly words of advice. Take more photos, and back them up!Song of the WeekWho's a fan of “Dream a Little Dream of Me?” It's one of my favorites to play on the guitar. Any requests for next time?Today's morning beach photoUntil next time, thanks as always for going down memory lane with me. Bobby Goldwater, Innovative Sports Executive and Consultant, on when he realized he could come up with a strategy to bring a Major League Baseball team back to Our Town~ "The first five people, Andy, that I met with inside baseball, did not know a basic fact about Washington DC and the light bulb goes off, this is a marketing project. I can do that." Bobby Goldwater, Innovative Sports Executive and Consultant, and host Andy Ockershausen in-studio interview Andy Ockershausen: This is Our Town. This is Andy Ockershausen and a conversation with a very dear friend and a very important person to me and to Our Town. His name is Bobby Goldwater. Many, many times. I have thought to ask you this question, are you related in any way to the Arizona Goldwaters? Senator Barry Goldwater Distant Relative Bobby Goldwater: Yes. I am told, that there is a distant relation. My sister, once upon a time did a family tree. We are, this is what she told us, fourth cousins twice removed, from the Arizona Goldwaters. I never met Senator Goldwater. My father and my brother did, but I did not. Andy Ockershausen: Well, a fabulous human being, to me- Bobby Goldwater: Yes indeed. Andy Ockershausen: ... and a member of Our Town, he lived in Our Town in an apartment complex, and I used to go into the drug store, he went into the druggist all the time, but I met him and then I had the misfortune fortune, I was a delegate to the Republican National Convention to support Barry Goldwater because he was such a, at the time a fresh breeze and a thing. He was a Westerner as you know, and he lived it and breathed it. His family lived it. I went to his department store in Phoenix one time, just to make sure it was there, but he didn't have anything to do with it. I think his brother ran that. The Goldwater's Fine Department Store Bobby Goldwater: Well, the family did, and the first time I was in Phoenix I said to myself, “You know, I've got to go to the department store because it has my name on it.” So I went in, I did some shopping, and I hand my credit card to the clerk, and she sees my last name, and she calls the assistant manager, and the assistant manager is going, “Oh, Mr. Goldwater, Mr. Goldwater, was everything okay?” I'm trying to convince her that I am not that Goldwater, I am not part of that part of the family, and I couldn't convince her so I just let it go. She was very nice, she couldn't have been nicer, but it was just funny, but I took a shopping bag with my family name on it. It was great. Andy Ockershausen: And your own Goldwater. Bobby, that's a great story, but that was a big part of your life. The name I'm sure when you were growing up in the business and you're a New Yorker. Scarsdale High School. Scarsdale High School Alumnus | Scarsdale, New York Bobby Goldwater: Yes sir. Andy Ockershausen: That's a very wealthy neighborhood, Scarsdale, I would say. Bobby Goldwater: People think that, yes. Andy Ockershausen: Scarsdale High was sort of like Hollywood High on the east. I mean they had all the celebrity. And you went to Miami University of Ohio, which is a long way from Scarsdale but not. Scarsdale is the upper grade high school as I remember. Bobby Goldwater: Mm-hmm (affirmative), it is. Andy Ockershausen: And the University of Miami is fabulous. Miami University of Ohio Alumnus Bobby Goldwater: Miami University. Andy Ockershausen: I mean, I mean- Bobby Goldwater: We're very sensitive about that. Andy Ockershausen: And they make a big thing of that too. Bobby Goldwater: Yes, we do. Andy Ockershausen: Donna Shalala, right? Donna Shalala Attended the University of Miami Bobby Goldwater: Yeah. She was at the University of Miami- Andy Ockershausen: I know that. Bobby Goldwater: ... in Florida. Other Ohio Universities Andy Ockershausen: But Ohio is such an important part our culture because there's an Ohio school, it's not Ohio State, right? Bobby Goldwater: Nope. Andy Ockershausen: University of Ohio.

JOHN GRANT is an award-winning location manager who knows the Greater Los Angeles Area like the back of his hand. From feature films to reality TV shows, John has a genuine love for finding real-world settings for producers and directors to use in creating make-believe worlds. (43:28)     EPISODE NOTES:  I’ve lived in the Eagle Rock area of Los Angeles for 20 years and in that time I’ve seen a lot of film and television shoots on my street and around the neighborhood. Clint Eastwood lived in the house behind me in “Million Dollar Baby.” The Italian Bakery at the end of my street had a recurring role in “Sons of Anarchy.” “The Office” shot at Pete’s Blue Chip Burgers, and Zooey Deschanel rode down Colorado Boulevard in a pedicab for her show “New Girl.” Pharrell Williams used Eagle Rock High School, our bowling alley All Star Lanes, and the local CVS for his “Happy” music video. HBO’s “Togetherness” was not only filmed in Eagle Rock, but actually set in Eagle Rock -- it usually passes for other places. The tidy Craftsman house they used for the series is just a few blocks over. And get this: the male lead character’s name is Brett Pierson. Talk about close to home. But no matter what part of the city you live in, there’s a pretty good chance you’ll see some Lights, Camera, Action! at one point or another. Like it or not, LA functions as a gigantic backlot for film and TV producers. And as longtime location manager JOHN GRANT tells me, there are plenty of people who don’t like it: “Managing the location is a lot about public relations. And when you’ve got a resident or merchant screaming at you about your presence there, I’ve got to remember that I’ve got to go back and shoot in that neighborhood again sometime. So, I’ve got to maintain a level of decorum in the neighborhood so that everybody feels that this wasn’t a production that screwed them over.” Of course, there are some people who aren’t satisfied unless they get something out of it for themselves. “Gratuities” is the line item in a production budget for dealing with persistent grumblers: “If there’s somebody who feels like they’re getting shafted, I’ll say ‘Let me pay you a thousand bucks and do catering on your lawn or in your backyard’ or ‘For 150 bucks a truck, can I park 3 trucks in your driveway?’” But John says pacifying a vocal local doesn’t always mean handing over a fistful of cash: “I remember on Fear Factor I could fix the problem just by giving people a hat. They’d say, ‘Hey, look. They gave me a hat!’” With over 30 years of experience in the field, John is a seasoned professional who’s been around the block – actually lots of blocks – many times: “In Los Angeles you can get knee-high in the tall grass if you’re not careful. You bring a large footprint of trucks and trailers and you don’t prep it right, you’re going to have trouble in the neighborhood. And I pride myself in the way that I prep things. I’m very thorough and leave no stone unturned."   John’s serious attention to detail has not gone unnoticed. He’s been nominated for 8 California On Location Awards and won his first COLA in 2005 for his work on MTV’s reality show “The 70s House.” The win was a huge surprise for John because he was up against the location managers working on two major network episodics: CBS’s “NCIS” and NBC’s “ER.” John won a second COLA in 2013 for “Face Off” on the SyFy Channel. In talking with John it’s clear that he truly loves Los Angeles. He grew up here; went to Hollywood High; and knows the city like the back of his hand. He’s got a long list of spots around town he loves to shoot in – and a very short list of spots he hates shooting in. In fact, it’s just one place. And you might be surprised to hear where it is. (No, it’s not Eagle Rock.) BP   Many thanks to the Blue Dot Sessions for the music featured in this episode royalty free through Creative Commons licensing: 1. "The Zeppelin"  2. "Anders" 3. In the Beginning: Mokenstef came together in 1990.  Kenya and Stef, cheerleaders at Inglewood's Morningside high, were looking for a third member for a hip-hop dance crew.  Hollywood High student, Mo auditioned and demolished the competition. They started dancing for various hip hop acts on stage and in videos, most notably for rapper AMG ( Bitch Betta have my money), And Big Daddy Kane(This is for the lover in you)  Looking to become more then just  hard bodies in the background, they started developing their respective vocal talents. They hooked up with a local production company, which didn't go very far, and signed a contract with a shady management company went absolutely no where. But they stuck with it, working on their music careers between college classes and normal 9-5 jobs. "We were struggling.  We didn't have a manager.  We were our own self-support group, "says Stef resolutely. Their break came when they dropped in on AMG one afternoon at the office of "Greedy Greg" Jesse and Anthony "Anti" Lewis, owners of Outburst Records (Domino).  The owners were listening in on AMG and some local artists clowning around, tossing out rhymes .  Mo chimed in with a few notes, and Suddenly she and her two partners had a captive audience with their rhyming and singing.  Soon after, Mokenstef officially became part of the Outburst, Island, and Def Jam family and started work on the album.

I want a damn jetpack. Is that so hard to understand? There was actually a guy on the “Jimmy Kimmel Show” recently who had one and used it to fly around Hollywood High’s football field in Los Angeles. But he was on the show because it was unusual. I think everyone who wants a jetpack and has the balls to use one, should have one. Maybe it’s a guy thing – I also want to see a man walk on Mars in my lifetime. (Not me, mind you, but some guy.) It’s not like I’m asking for some silly flying car, like in the Back to the Future movies. No, that would be silly. And while we’re at it, I want to drive a really cool car that doesn’t look like every fourth car on the road. Is that too much to ask? Mac Montandon knows exactly what I’m after. My mother was there, and my son was there and my wife was there." Roger Cossack, ESPN Sports Legal Analyst and Law Professor A Ockershausen: This is Our Town. This is Andy Ockershausen, and we're talking and going to talk to Roger Cossack, the 1999 Vanity Fair one of the movers and shakers of Washington radio, TV and broadcast. 1999, do you remember that year, Rog? Roger Cossack: I was going to say that must be another Roger Cossack. A Ockershausen: Vanity Fair of all mag. What happened to Broadcasting and USA Today and so forth? Roger Cossack: No, they never recognized me. A Ockershausen: Sports Illustrated. Roger, tell us now. You are from the West Coast. You're a West Coast guy, but you grace our town and have for many years, and we have really appreciated it. Tell me about your early life on the coast, LA. Roger Cossack: Well, I went to UCLA undergraduate and UCLA law school. A Ockershausen: Where'd you go to school? I mean, to grammar school. Cheremoya Avenue Grammar, Hollywood High and Ricky Nelson Roger Cossack: I went to Cheremoya Avenue Grammar School, but probably the most notable place I went was, I went to Hollywood High School. A Ockershausen: Hollywood High. Roger Cossack: I went to Hollywood High School, and my claim to fame is, is that I sat next to Ricky Nelson. We both sat on the bench for the football team, and neither one of us played too much. A Ockershausen: What a famous, famous, fabulous high school, though. Hollywood High. Roger Cossack: Yeah, it was- A Ockershausen: Was it on Sunset? Roger Cossack: It is on Highland Avenue between Sunset and Hollywood Boulevard. It was a great time to go to Hollywood High School. A Ockershausen: Oh my God, yeah. Roger Cossack: It was a fun time to go. A Ockershausen: Celebrity school, right? Roger Cossack: Well, yeah. There were a lot of celebrities who went there. I'm trying to think of some of them. I think, as I told you, Ricky Nelson, but I can't remember any of them now, now but there were some. There were always, you know, pretty girls who were leaving to go be in the movies. That's the way our- A Ockershausen: A lot of friends of mine from ABC Television who lived on the West Coast, their kids went to Hollywood High when they were coming up in the business. It was so important that they get that LA feeling. Why would you then go to school, you went down the road to UCLA? UCLA Undergrad and Law School Roger Cossack: Well, UCLA it was a very good reason, Andy. A Ockershausen: Did your family live down there? Roger Cossack: Well, my family lived in Los Angeles, but- A Ockershausen: West Los Angeles? Roger Cossack: Not so much. We lived in Hollywood, and the reason that I went to UCLA is because, it was a very good reason, was that UCLA, it was and is a public university, and that was where I could afford to go to school. It was inexpensive and it- A Ockershausen: One of the most gorgeous campuses in the free world. Roger Cossack: It's a beautiful place. It was a great opportunity for me to be able to go there. It was very inexpensive, and get a great education. In fact, I loved it so much I stayed six years. There was a couple of little- A Ockershausen: That's irregular. Roger Cossack: Yeah, a couple of little interruptions- A Ockershausen: Roger. Roger Cossack: Which we won't go into, but nevertheless I stayed six years. Then, the UCLA law school let me in and I was able to get a legal education at UCLA law school. A Ockershausen: Did Ricky go with? No, he went into showbiz. Roger Cossack: No, Ricky went on to bigger and better things.

Outlaw Southern Rocker Glitter Rose has been breathing music all her life. California born and Texas raised, this Cali-Texan was exposed to rock n' roll in a small town as a kid inspiring rhythm and vigor in young GR. It became her dream to pursue music as a career at age 12 after writing her first song. Shortly after, she began recording albums, started performing live, became a guitarist and lived the music business through her teens. Spanning from country to pop to rock, GR experimented with many genres, styles and looks. Hollywood High was her rock baby born in 2001, and earned her much recognition through 2004. Life changing events led to GR focusing on her solo career and in 2007, she released her album Southern Comfort. Making waves with slice of life songs and rockin' rhythms, GR began to light up the industry, performing at North Texas festivals, hosting live music showcases, becoming a resident at the Dallas International Guitar Festival, appearing on Good Morning Texas and even designing her own acoustic guitar series, introducing her into the equipment industry and leading to performances around the world. After releasing her album Dead or Alive in 2012 and moving to Los Angeles, she was now endorsed with 12 major equipment companies, including brands like Gibson Acoustic, Orange Amplifiers, Telefunken Elektroakustik and Fishman Music and became an 8-time award winner with her album Dead or Alive, co-produced by Dran Michael and Glitter Rose, and her music video "Buda Negra" directed by Amy Campione. GR is known for her magnetic and charming stage presence.  Loved by all ages, Glitter was chosen to host and star in Southern Rock Brunch at Hard Rock Cafe Hollywood Blvd., which ran for 20 weeks.  GR retains residencies with HRC to date. She is the songwriter for the title track of the feature film American Girl and was an associate producer on the film, as well as made a cameo appearance in it. She also co-wrote a song with bass legend Stu Hamm and Korean guitar legend SeHwang Kim titled "Two Lovers", which is featured in the Korean box office smash The Technicians. GR recently was Music Director and Co-Composer for "How To: The Musical" which was a film for the 48 Hour Film Project in Los Angeles and currently finishing her 3rd album "Outlaw In Love". A Southern Rocker at heart and an Outlaw by design, Glitter Rose will go on to be one of music's most unique, and heartfelt success stories in history. Years of dedication and perseverance through hardship, heartache and challenges, makes all the great moments that much sweeter, and you can feel it in the songs she sings.Glitter Rose Videos
