Welcome Back to The Courage to Change: A Recovery Podcast! Season 6 Begins In this special mini episode, I'm excited to share some major updates and the new direction for The Courage to Change podcast as we launch into Season 6. After a much-needed longer break, I'm back, but this time, I'm flying solo. I'll dive into why I've taken this new journey without my usual team. Big Changes and New Beginnings: After 14 incredible years, my journey with Lionrock Recovery, the company I built with my co-founders, has come to an end. It's been sold to a fantastic organization that's set to take it to new heights. With the transition, I've taken The Courage to Change with me, stepping out like a baby bird from the nest, ready to navigate the world of podcast production on my own. What's Next for The Courage to Change: A Recovery Podcast? Episodes will now be released every Wednesday. Mark your calendars to catch every update and story we're eager to share. As I take on the helm of production single-handedly, I'm also funding the podcast personally. Your support means more than ever. David Procyshyn grew up in the suburbs of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. In his late teens he started feeling chronically tired. He experienced near constant pain in his gut and chronic tension around his head. He eventually came to realize they were all symptoms of significant depression and anxiety.  He'd tried to hide his feelings from everyone and the hiding caused him to dissociate and be plagued with social anxiety. He began to search for something different to help him heal and started dabbling with meditation and yoga.At 22 he desperately needed to get out of the spiraling feeling he was experiencing and took a trip to South Africa as a journey of self discovery. The experience found him seeking deep exploration far off the beaten path. When he came home, he felt changed and he wasn't willing to live in the same way as before. He moved to Victoria and found his people. He got deep into Yoga, Pranayama, meditation and holotropic breathwork. He started doing yoga training and found even greater depth and healing with silent retreats. In 2008, he created doyogawithme.com which aimed to provide online yoga that was accessible to all. Amy Farnan grew up in a loving home with three siblings and lots of laughter. Even with all the good she found at her core, the inability to feel like she had worth or a voice. In middle school she found alcohol and immediately felt powerful and pretty. She began saying the things she'd always wanted to say and the feeling hooked her.She had some level of management of her drinking through high school and college and upon graduation began a spiritual journey with her brother, a professional rock climber and someone who sought the spiritual in the same way she did. The trip was incredible and opened her eyes to what other people were doing in the world, but 6 months later, her brother died in an avalanche while climbing. As the search for his body began, she was put in the strange position of communication liaison with the search efforts and caretaker to her parents. In that place, she was unable to grieve in the way she needed to and instead placated herself and those around her with “He died doing what he loved.”And thus kicked off her destructive relationship with alcohol that caused her to lose her child, her romantic relationship, and her life. Finally with the help of AA and Lionrock Recovery, she was able to find sobriety that has remained.Episode ResourcesConnect with AmyInstagram | @afarnan1Facebook | @afarnan1Connect with The Courage to ChangePodcast Website | lionrock.life/couragetochangepodcastPodcast Instagram | @couragetochange_podcastYouTube | The Courage to Change PodcastTikTok | @ashleyloebblassingamePodcast Email | podcast@lionrock.lifePodcast Facebook | @thecouragetochangepodcastLionrock ResourcesLionrock Life Mobile App | lionrock.life/mobile-appSupport Group Meeting Schedule | lionrock.life/meetings

Diverse persone sono state colpite. L'elettricità è stata tagliata in zone pericolose. Crisi globale. In case we haven't met yet, I am a certified Recovery Coach and Hypnotist. I am obsessed with all things recovery, including neuroscience, reprogramming the subconscious mind, law of attraction, all forms of personal growth and spirituality. I have been practicing abstinence from drugs and alcohol since 4/23/94, and I believe in people finding what works for them. I honor all forms of recovery, but I do not indulge in, or encourage any form of shame based recovery. My fabulous guest today is Ashley Loeb Blassingame, CPO (Chief People Officer) at LionRock recovery, an Online Substance Abuse Counseling. Ashley was guest #121 and is here for an encore interview to talk about National Online Recovery Day, which is Sept 22.  Link to past episode: http://odaatchat.com/index.php/2020/09/15/oc121-ashley/   She also wrote: “You Are Not Alone: How to get your life back when there is a drug or alcohol problem” and is the host of the VERY popular podcast “The Courage to Change”.   Soooo little disclaimer here, the beginning of our conversation is highly inappropriate. We were giggling quite a bit because apparently, we both have a very juvenile sense of humor. But once we settle down, and I promise, it's quick, we get right into talking about important things like how she has learned to cope with the obsession to use even though she's in long term recovery, raising twin boys, running a company and all the while trying to stay sane.   She's super funny, and I'm excited for you to meet her!   Oh! And just one more thing before we start: I'm working on a book project and looking for anonymous volunteers who are willing to talk with me about core wounds. I'm looking for people in recovery who were raised with absent or emotionally unavailable parents. If you are interested, your story could be featured in the book and help an untold number of people. All you have to do is email me at podcastvolunteer@gmail.com and I'll send you a short questionnaire with additional details. and don't forget to follow the podcast on Instagram for contests, challenges and prizes! @odaatpodcast So there you have it, please enjoy this conversation with Ashley.

The grief and sense of loss surrounding his death was compounded with extreme isolation due to Covid. The result was a calling to action and a dedication to the task of supporting people who are seeking treatment and freedom from substance abuse.Vanessa divides her time between Madison and Chicago with her husband and 2 little boys. Her life as a Photographer, in addition to being a dedicated part of the Lionrock team, is evolving as she adds the title of Cookbook Author. We're excited to introduce our new series, Ask the Expert, where your host, Ashley Loeb Blassingame, exchanges views with and picks the brains of industry leading experts. Our first episode of the series features Dr. Adi Jaffe.Adi Jaffe, Ph.D. is a #1 best-selling author and a nationally recognized expert on mental health, addiction, relationships and shame. He lectured in the UCLA Psychology department for the better part of a decade and was the Executive-Director and Co-Founder of one of the most progressive mental health treatment facilities in the country - until he started IGNTD.Dr. Jaffe, through IGNTD, is changing the way people think about, and deal with mental health issues. His passion in the role of shame destroying lives is the philosophy behind IGNTD Recovery and its aim to greatly reduce the stigma of addiction and mental health. Dr. Jaffe attended UCLA, graduating with a B.A. in psychology. It was during his undergraduate career that Adi began struggling with drug issues himself, eventually leading to a 4 year hiatus from studies and into the Los Angeles drug-dealing world where he became quite successful. During that period of his life, Adi's days looked more like a re-enactment of a beatnik novel or a Quentin Tarantino film than the life of an upper-middle class suburban kid. Following a SWAT team arrest in his apartment, and extended court case and a year-long jail sentence, Adi began rebuilding his life. This eventually led to his attainment of a Ph.D. from UCLA's top-rated doctoral program in psychology, where he graduated with honors. Even before he graduated Dr. Jaffe's name had become known through his online and academic writing. His views on addiction and his research on the topic have been published in dozens of journals and online publications and he has appeared on numerous television shows and documentaries discussing current topics in addiction and the problem of addiction as a whole.Dr. Jaffe now writes a blog on Psychology Today, and several other online and print sources. His goal is to bring the latest knowledge about addiction to the people who could benefit from it most – those who are suffering because of it. His writing combines personal experience with a decade's worth of fine-detail research regarding the mechanisms involved in the addictive process. Dr. Jaffe has been featured in CNN, The Huffington Post, Bustle, Los Angeles Times, KTLA.Episode ResourcesDr. Jaffe's Book | The Abstinence MythIGNTD | Hero ProgramConnect with Dr. Adi JaffeDr. Jaffe's Instagram | @dradijaffeIGNTD Instagram | @igntd.meIGNTD Website | igntd.comConnect with Us  at The Courage to ChangePodcast Website | lionrock.life/couragetochangepodcastPodcast Instagram | @couragetochange_podcastPodcast Facebook | @thecouragetochangepodcastPodcast Email | podcast@lionrock.lifeLooking for Online Support?Lionrock.life provides a variety of aa meetings and aa alternative meetings via Zoom. Norman Curtiss has been a practicing pharmacist for about 8 years.  He grew up always playing sports as a child and throughout high school.  Norman struggled with substance use disorder with either alcohol, Adderall or both throughout most of his 20's and early 30's.  His journey to recovery started with a phone call to Lionrock.  That was June 2, 2018, and he has been sober from alcohol since that day.  His addiction to Adderall continued until July of 2019 when he was arrested for diverting medication from the pharmacy where he was working.Norman's goal is to be more open about his past in order to help eliminate the negative stigma associated with substance use disorders, especially in the healthcare field.   He has now put himself in a position to be as happy as he's ever been - living a sober, active lifestyle.  He now works part-time as a pharmacist and has started taking classes to become a physician assistant.  His goal is to become a PA in order to work directly with patients who are suffering from addiction disorders and mental health issues and help them on their way to recovery. Subscribe to The Courage to Change: A Recovery PodcastApple Podcasts |  Google Podcasts | SpotifyStitcher | iHeart | TuneIn | Overcast | SoundCloud Contact Norman with any questions here Looking for Online Support?Click here to view Lionrock.Life's online support groups and meetings (12-step and other) Connect with Us:Podcast Website | Podcast Instagram | Podcast FacebookQuestions, comments or feedback?  Email us at podcast@lionrock.life

If employees aren’t engaging in substance use while on the clock, why is it so imperative that employers champion substance use disorder recovery? “The research shows that 180 billion dollars are lost annually in productivity, turn over, and health care costs in untreated substance use disorders,” says Peter Loeb, one part of today’s father/daughter guest duo - Peter Loeb and Ashley Loeb Blassingame, co-founders of Lionrock Recovery. Together, along with their third co-founder Iain Crabb, they have pioneered the path into telehealth for substance use disorder (SUD) recovery, using technology to make treatment more private and attainable to people who could not otherwise get help. With employees in nearly every state, Lionrock Recovery has been convincing the world that virtual treatment is effective far before COVID19 forced us online. In this episode, Peter shares some of the background in founding Lionrock, and Ashley touches on the benefits of using a platform like Zoom in therapy. They define SUD and discuss why employers should care about recovery, how workplace cultures feed into SUD, and what employers can do to help.  Lastly, Ashley shares a few personal stories to humanize SUD, and they each leave us with a tangible tip we can use to help further the discussion of recovery in our own companies and lives. This episode is sponsored by University of Wisconsin Health and Wellness Management, offering online bachelor’s and master’s degrees in wellness management. You can visit hwm.wisconsin.edu for more information. Graduates of the program have launched successful wellness careers with healthcare systems, wellness program vendors, community agencies, insurance providers, even the military. Here are some really cool things about UW Health and Wellness Management: Courses are designed and taught by distinguished faculty from the University of Wisconsin, many of whom actively work in the field. UW Health and Wellness Management is also supported by an advisory board, industry experts from corporations such as Children’s Wisconsin, Willis Towers Watson, and the Wisconsin Department of Employee Trust Funds, who offer advice on changing trends in health and wellness so that students are learning the most up-to-date methods. Students often say the flexible, online format is a big factor in their ability to earn a degree. (Our recent situation is an indication of the advantages of online learning.) Although the program is online, you’ll make strong connections with peers and faculty, just as you would on campus. UW Health and Wellness Management bachelor’s and master’s degrees provide the skills you need to manage comprehensive employee well-being programs that foster healthier lifestyles and promote the value of staying well.  Turn your passion for wellness into a healthy career with University of Wisconsin Health and Wellness Management. Welcome to the first episode of Couch Surfing. This is a new section of Sofa Dogs, devoted to weekly discussions about the latest news in entertainment. Joining me on this experimental, maiden voyage is Scott Carelli, from Two Geeks, A Mic & A Podcast. Taking a page from the book of Kevin Smith (more like downright ripping out that page), we adopt the Smodcast structure, by playing music behind our random conversations. This is my first attempt at a podcast like this, so please send me feedback and let me know what you think. The following artists can be heard in this episode:Lionrock, Peter Gabriel, Portishead, Remy Zero, Shampoo, Lemon Demon, Sugarloaf, Sarah Michelle Gellar, New Order, They Might Be Giants, Prince, Gnarls Barkley, The Pixies, Camille Saint-Saens, U2 Darlene Love, Yoko Kanno, Danny Elfman, Telefon Tel Aviv, CinderellaAngels & Airwaves, The Dandy Warhols, DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, Elmer Bernstein, Christophe Beck, Brad Fiedel, Justin TimberlakeSupertramp, Dave Pimer, Flyleaf, Fugazi, Charlie Clouser, Lazlo Bane Coldplay and John McEntire.
