As Trump's approval rating soars to 55%, commentators warn that without serious consequences for Democrats, the country could see a return to the violent chaos of the 2020 “Summer of Love.” The discussion covers the massive damage from past riots, concerns of renewed unrest, and Trump's shift in tone as he vows law and order. Meanwhile, Democrats are accused of escalating tensions, including Rep. Eric Swalwell's veiled threats toward ICE. Trump's tougher stance is clear in his sharp rebuke of Rep. Monica MacGyver's actions. The episode ends with praise for a new legal strategy to bypass Sanctuary City protections and deport criminal illegal immigrants—signaling a major shift in enforcement ahead of the 2024 election.

First, the Supreme Court in an 8-1 decision yesterday ruled that the Trump administration had the legal authority to end to so-called TEMPORARY Protected Status program that President Joe “Auto-pen” Biden had granted to hundreds of thousands of third-world migrants, lifting an injunction that had been imposed by an Obama-nominated federal judge in San Francisco. Second, Biden head of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, who repeatedly testified to Congress that the American borders were secure even as millions of illegal criminal migrants were invading our nation, is reportedly looking at possible treason charges to be brought Attorney General Pam Bondi. The days are dwindling but the fire is heating up. The final six begin with the highest stakes reward challenge of the season and unfortunately for Shauhin, it is not leg day. First up, Jay asks Jeff about the making of a great endurance challenge. One thing is for sure, it's made all the more dramatic by the pouring rain. Jeff details what it takes for the Survivor crew to be prepared for any and all elements, including a massive rainstorm in the middle of the ocean. Then, the aftermath - how important is getting to the Sanctuary one final time, and what's it like for those who don't make the cut? And what happens to all of those other letters from home? Rachel remembers her experience on the beach while other lucky tribemates got that final fuel and theorizes about how winning the biggest reward of the season can also come with a cost. Later, Joe's impactful moment remembering his sister. Jeff gives his thoughts on watching it back. And the big move that took everyone by surprise. Plus, your questions, including what Rachel crammed before her time on the island that was ultimately completely useless. "International Menstrual Hygiene Day" is May 28th. Hear about the many challenges women face in taking care of this natural process, and the many ways that the Mooncatcher Project helps menstruators both here and abroad. Ellie von Wellsheim, MCP founder, explains how a project started in her Schenectady home has grown to provide reusable menstrual kits to millions of people in 38 (or more?) countries around the world, as well as started seven sewing cooperatives. The distribution of kits is supplemented by health education for both boys and girls. You are invited to join a "Moon Bee" to help make kits, no sewing experience needed. Ellie also notes that MCP's "Period Pantries" in this region (including one outside the Sanctuary's Nature Lab) are like Little Free Libraries for tampons and pads. For more information on activities, donation options, and International Menstrual Hygiene Day, visit www.mooncatcher.org. Produced by Brea Barthel for Hudson Mohawk Magazine.

Send us a textOn today's podcast, we're joined by Rev. Kelly Dignan. In 2017, Rev. Dignan advocated for, and led her congregation – the Unitarian Universalist Church of Boulder, Colorado – to become a sanctuary congregation, housing a Peruvian refugee mother and her children. Today's conversation will focus on the resurgence of the Sanctuary Church Movement during the past 10 years, and how this influenced the Unitarian Universalist Church – Boulder to open up their building as a sanctuary space. We will also discuss the difficulties involved with a congregation making the complicated decision to become a Sanctuary Church as well as the victories, joys, and celebrations involved with being a Sanctuary Congregation. 05-11-2025 Sanctuary Service, I'll Be With You - Rev. Dr. Brian R. Paulson
In his second term in office, Donald Trump has revived his fight against sanctuary jurisdictions. For decades, local government agencies across the country have restricted law enforcement officials from cooperating with federal immigration enforcement. Trump's efforts to withhold federal funding have so far been blocked in court, as they were during his first term. Still some cities are downplaying their sanctuary status as the Trump administration continues its crackdown on immigrants and pledges to deport millions of people. We'll talk about what “sanctuary” means in 2025, what Trump is trying to do, and how communities across California are responding. Guests: Marisa Lagos, politics correspondent, KQED; co-host, KQED's Political Breakdown Sergio Olmos, investigative reporter, CalMatters Nick Miroff, staff writer covering immigration, the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S.-Mexico border, The Atlantic Learn more about your ad choices.
