(bell and breath)(loud sound of train passing at close distance)(once the train has passed, cross fade between quiet city and very quiet mountain forest)(indigenous artist and curator France Trepanier from conscient podcast é55 trépanier - a very small moment in a much larger space, in French):I think that with this cycle of colonialism, and what it has brought, that we are coming to the end of this cycleand with hindsight, we will realize that it was a very small moment in a much larger space, and that we are returning to very deep knowledge. What does it mean to live here on this planet? What does it mean to have the possibility, but also the responsibility to maintain harmonious relationships? What does a very small moment in a much larger space sound like? *This quote is from indigenous artist and curator France Trepanier from conscient podcast é55 trépanier - un petit instant dans un espace beaucoup plus vaste (a very small moment in a much larger space) recorded on June 7, 2021. When I recorded this train I felt great relief once the train had passed, but also a feeling of accountability for the life forms that were masked by the violent rumble of the train. Thanks to France Trepanier for her permission to use her quote for this episode. This passing train on Adanac street in Vancouver was recorded on a Zoom H4n Pro audio recorder on October 14th, 2022 at 10am.I am grateful and accountable to the earth and the human labour that provided me with the privilege of producing this episode. (ocean shoreline)The problem with beauty is that it can distract us from reality.Sit with me, please, take a moment. Sit and listen… Over there, about 56 kilometers to the northeast, is the traditional territory of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh nations, also known as Vancouver.Listen to the ocean flowing, like the blood and liquids in your body. We are water.Listen to the ravens passing by and croaking. They are poetry in motion.Listen to the city rumbling at a distance, but it's hard to hear, isn't it? Let me help by filtering out high frequencies… (cutting out of high frequencies) Ah, there is the drone of the city. It's both beautiful and bewildering, isn't it?A plane is coming. I'll bring back the high frequencies.(bring back high frequencies) The sky is littered with aircraft around here - seaplanes, jets, helicopters - but they can have a strong aesthetic effect as they inch their way across the sky, merging with the rumble of the city.(Fading to silence)One of the problems with modern aesthetic experiences is that we tend to choose the ones that reinforce our own world view and deny the shit around us. Dr. Vanessa Andreotti suggests that we learn to ‘hold space for the good, the bad, the ugly and the messed up, within and around'How can we ‘de-modernize' art?*This episode is dedicated to my colleague Hildegard Westerkamp whose voice, from her Kits Beach Soundwalk (1989) composition, was in my head when I wrote the narrative for this episode. I respectfully borrowed her technique of filtering a soundscape as part of a narrative. The recording was made on a Zoom H4n Pro in one take on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 8am at the Boat Pass at Winter Cove National Park, Saturna Island, BC. I thank Dr. Vanessa Andreotti for the use of her words. I am grateful and accountable to the earth and the human labour that provided me with the privilege of producing this episode. (Deep breath)TensionI was thinking about the tensions in our lives and the art of finding a balance point… So I went for a sound walk in Vancouver and came upon a piece of fishing line. I brought it home, strung it up and recorded myself plucking it (sound of fishing line being plucked by hand) I held the fishing line with my left hand while I gradually reduced the tension with my right hand. Later that day I went for another soundwalk and came upon a white metal fence. I started to gently tap one of the rods with my middle finger tip, like a heartbeat... (sound of metal fence rod being tapped) Finally, as I continued my search for sounds of tension, I came upon another metal fence, this one by the ocean and struck it with a wooden stick while slowly decreasing my walking pace. (sound of metal fence tapped by a piece of wood)I invite you to sit with me for a moment and feel these sounds. Try not to think, just feel. (sound of decreased tension by filtering and slowing down) How do you feel now ?(further decrease of tension by filtering and slowing down to silence) What about now? (silence)How do you feel now? (Deep breath)*This episode was recorded on a Zoom H4n Pro audio recorder in Vancouver in September, 2022. I composed it as a pilot episode with the intention of exploring somatic and embodied listening. It's basically a sketch but I thought it would be a good way to start this 4th season of the conscient podcast because it asks an open ended question that will come back again and again throughout this project : how do you feel now?I am grateful and accountable to the earth and the human labour that provided me with the privilege of producing this episode. While I believe that having a quality microphone when you're podcasting is important, that doesn't always mean you have to be in an office or studio environment. Today, I'm going to run through some things that would improve your recordings on the phone as well as in an on-the-go setting, and still make sure that you have great quality. What You Will Learn In This Episode: - It is never enough to just record straight onto your phone if you're podcasting for business - Why you need to have a couple of clip-on microphones in your bag - Besides your computer, consider a handheld recorder as an on-the-go option - How having a portable microphone stand can help you If you've done all the hard work to attract listeners, you want to make sure that they stay and that they come back. Think about audio quality first, because a podcast is a powerful vehicle to bring, attract and retain your audience. Lots of people have been asking me about podcasts recently. It's easy to get started and some hosting providers - like Podbean have a basic free plan which allows you to get started. You don't need much equipment - £20 or so will get you a couple of lavalier or clip-on microphones which you can connect to your phone and start recording. More advanced set ups could use portable multi track recorders, like the Zoom H4nPro or similar models from Tascam. If you're based at home or in an office try to avoid recording your podcast in an echoey room with hard surface and big windows. You're better in a room with soft furnishings and a decent carpet. A USB microphone can be a good purchase and be sure to wear headphones - even if it's just the in-ear bud type. Podcasts are getting longer - the average duration was about 20 minutes a few years ago, it's now gone past half an hour and some of the most popular podcasts are even longer than an hour. It is a competitive space and having a podcast doesn't mean people will listen to it. So what is it that's unique or special about it and how will you make sure people will find it? Remember another good place to start is to appear on someone else's podcast as a guest.
A special extra November edition of the programme and an opportunity to hear the superb 3/12 Wurlitzer in the Victoria Hall at Saltaire near Shipley in West Yorkshire. Many people will know that the organ originally started life in the Gaumont Cinema in Oldham but after its removal from there in 1961 has has three additional homes across the pennines before its installation at Saltaire 22 years ago. We were lucky be able to record a concert on Remembrance Sunday presented by the COS Northern Society starring NICHOLAS MARTIN B.E.M. at the console but on this occasion our microphones were sited in the balcony to capture the nuances of what is regarded to be one the areas finest theatre organs. If you would like to hear the ex Oldham Wurlitzer live - organist Michael Wooldridge will be entraining next month with no doubt some seasonal favourites on Sunday December 12th at 2.30pm. for details of that telephone 0845 400 2208 after 7pm or visit www.cinema-organs.co.uk/tickets. Recording by kind permission of the artist and the COS Northern District Committee, using Zoom H4N Pro recorder, additional Rode Microphones and no post-processing or enhancements. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/communitykeyboards/message
The first time I ever saw a Buchla system I was curious and intrigued. When I first heard a Buchla system I instantly fell in love with the timbres and have been exploring Don's circuits ever since. The sound of the Easel's Complex Oscillator or the Programmable Complex Waveform Generator Model 259 are unlike any other oscillator I have ever used. And the in depth interconnected relationship with their Modulation Oscillators makes them instruments in their own right. There is truly something magical in Don's designs. Something that attracts and inspires musicians from all corners of the world and all walks of life, to push their boundaries and think outside the musical status quo. In my mind the Buchla ecosystem is the perfect platform for live musical improvisation. Raw stream of consciousness materialized by the musicians creativity and rewarded through careful exploration of the system. My favorite quote from Don is "Anything is possible. We're not limited by technology; we're not limited by instruments. We're limited only by our mindsets." Its this quote that continues to inspire me to explore new ideas in the creation of sound and to be fearless in my approach to improvised live performance. This piece of music is a manifestation of that quote and a glimpse into my creative mindset. An eclectic mix composed of various patches reflecting and archiving where I was and what I was feeling during that moment in time. One of my favorite ways to create music is to wake up, fire up the Buchla, hit record, and just explore the endless possibilities. Whether I end up liking the patch or not I always make it a habit of documenting the results and adding it to my personal sonic journal. I love the places I go and the emotions I experience when freely improvising on my Buchla. I believe I produce my best work with this method and it has personally become a powerful creative technique that I continue to explore. All sounds heard in this piece were one take recordings with no overdubbing or multi tracking. Recorded between March and December of 2020 straight from the mixer to a Zoom H4n Pro. While I have a growing collection of 200 series clones that were used in these recordings from time to time. This piece of music was done almost entirely on a Music Easel through various outboard effect units. Modules used in performance: - 2016 Bemi Music Easel (208 and 218e) - Progammable Complex Waveform Generator Model 259r - Source of Uncertainty Model 266 - Mixer/Preamplifer Model 207r -Quad Lopass Gate Model 292c - Quad Function Generator Model 281r - Dual Voltage Processor Model 257r Effects used in performance: - Sony TC-366 reel to reel (for tape delay) -Strymon Timeline -Strymon Big Sky - Make Noise Mimeophon - Make Noise Erbe-Verb - Make Noise Echophon - Make Noise Morphagene For more music, videos, and tutorials: soundcloud.com/musicalfungus youtube.com/musicalfungus kriyarecords.bandcamp.com musicalfungus.bandcamp.com instagram.com/musicalfungus (@musicalfungus)

Warum und was genau? [newsletter]

A reasonable short episode with thoughts on a new podcasting direction, some eclectic topics that help explain the bizarre experience of my life/career. Offers a couple of life lessons, some Grateful Dead talk, and a realization of the connection between many software developers and artist formerly known as the autism spectrum. Funny stuff as always. Short episode. Includes some distorted single guitar played through my amazing new all tube Blackstar Studio 10 KT88 with my Squier Tele that I am personally upgrading. Recorded on the little Zoom H4NPro just capturing a stream of consciousness jam. I was playing with a concept in mind of "Shenanigans Ensuing" as a result of recent events and upcoming D-day (I mean E-Day for Election). Excited for a family gathering at our house for my daughter's bridal shower. Taking a few days off to prepare, play guitar, and capture the energy and creative streak I've been feeling. As I state in the episode, my interests are proportional allocations to those interests are constantly evolving. They seem to universally include Music, Technology and Life. I discuss a new series I am currently working with a new format. This series will live on for the regular listeners. They are not large numbers, but many are people I care for and if they want this continue I will do it just for them. Their friendship, technical skills, and support has been invaluable.

Note: for 80 bucks more, you can get the DR-40X, which adds USB audio interface functionality to the base DR-40. The Zoom H4n Pro has this feature built-in. However, you can get it in a different color for $30 more!Still looking forward to Kyle's updated Rode VideoMic NTG for podcasting tests. And if Deity wants to send us a V-Mic D3 Pro to review, we're game.Tom Kelly!Gilbert's Rode VideoMic Go.Does The Brave Little Toaster hold up?The Land Before Time?Gilbert's A6600 pairs beautifully with the delightfully compact Zeiss f/2.8 35mm.Gilbert's Elgato Cam Link 4K is working out nicely, but it's selling for obscene prices everywhere. Please do not pay more than $150 for it. As an alternative, you can try one of these random white label cards that Kyle mentioned. It's at your own risk, but hey, it could work.Gilbert's Black Magic ATEM Mini backorder was indeed auto-canceled.We're still looking forward to Kyle receiving his ATEM Mini Pro. Like, c'mon, it's got "pro" right there in the name.Mark Gurman assures us the ARM transition is being announced. As an aside, wtf is ARM anyway?Gilbert's Logitech G602.The Aperture MC is way better than Gilbert anticipated. He should probably order 1-2 more. In fact, he just did. The price is good. Shh, don't tell Kyle. The bridge deck versus the standard poker deck. Aside: what a weird site to link to. We sure hope they haven't been canceled or something. We're sure there's some sort of database we can check but we're sure the internet will be more than happy to let us know.Sidus Link is the app Gilbert couldn't find thanks to its very logical name and extremely lazy searching because, duh, Kyle would know offhand anyway.Happy WWDC, everyone.

Episode 22 As we continue to focus on how we as Followers of Jesus Christ can live a life that will cause others to want to know more about Jesus, I want to look at Paul’s letter to the churches in Galatia. As we read Galatians 5:16-26 and how Paul addresses the battle between the flesh and the Spirit with in us. My prayer is that we all will focus on the Fruit of the Spirit and how we are to live as Followers of Jesus Christ. God Bless You and Yours, thanks for listening and sharing. *recorded with my Zoom H4N Pro also notice at time stamp 2:11 to 2:21 I turned off the recorder and go back to my Canon SL2 microphone to show you the difference in sound quality.
Last November I had the esteemed privilege of moderating a panel at NCTE, the annual conference of the National Council of Teachers of English. The panel was titled “Redefining the Boy Hero: Empowering Sensitive Boys and Bucking Gender Stereotypes Through Middle Grade Fiction”. Sitting on the panel among a standing room only crowd were four exceptional children’s book authors: Elana K. Arnold, Erin Entrada Kelly, Kekla Magoon, and Katherine Marsh. We only had one mic and it was affixed to the podium, so I wasn’t sure how this recording would turn out. Thankfully my Zoom H4n Pro went above and beyond, allowing this panel and the noteworthy thoughts of my panelists to be recorded for others to hear. It gives me great pleasure to share this conversation with you. I sincerely hope you enjoy listening. Episode at a Glance: Recorded Live at the Howell Branch Library in Fredericksburg during the Virginia Podcasters Association (VAPODA.org) Meetup. Tim and Kyle have been experimenting with how to produce a live show Nate and Preston attended our October 2019 Meetup to see how the secret sauce is made We recorded this BEFORE DC Podfest (dcpodfest.com) where Kyle is attended for the 4th year and Tim for the 3rd Year! Non compos mentis is a Latin phrase meaning not having command of one's mind. This episode is part 1 of a 2 part series dealing with the subject of insanity and the law. Part 1 specifically deals with the insanity defense and provides an overview of its history and structure and then concludes with a brief outline of the process insanity acquittals go through post-trial. Given that the Not Guilty By Reason of Insanity (NGRI) or Not Responsible Due to Mental Disease or Defect is both extremely complicated and can vary widely from state to state much of the specific information provided in this episode is focused on New York's process known as CPL 330.20. Part II of this series will take a deeper look at the process that governs the movement, progress, and eventual release to the community of insanity acquittals and will feature an interview with Sheila Shea, Esq., current Director of the Mental Hygiene Legal Service (MHLS), Third Judicial Department, responsible for the legal representation of all persons found Not Responsible Due to Mental Disease or Defect. Yes, that's right. Liverpool Football Club is going to the the UEFA Champions League Final in Madrid. Bryan and Joe relive that historic evening and discuss finishing second on 97 points. In this mini episode we discuss what brought us to podcasting and why podcasting is a good medium for professionals to use to build communities, develop a professional voice, disseminate information, and for branding. More and more professionals are utilizing social media, such as Twitter, blogs, Facebook, etc. Podcasts are an excellent alternative or supplement to existing online activities. Toward the goal of encouraging others we talk briefly about our trials and tribulations as we learned to work microphones and other audio gear. When we began this endeavor neither of us had any footprint on the Internet to speak of but through hard work, some fun, as well as considerable frustration we've been able to produce this podcast for a year. What gear’s involved? For this episode, Dr. Price used an Audio Technica AT 2005 microphone (approx. $100), an iPad, and an iRig2 (approx. $40) to interface with the iPad. Steve Koonz also used an Audio Technica AT 2005 microphone, an iPhone 8, an iRig2, as well as a Mackie Mix8 (approx. $90), and a Zoom H4n Pro digital recorder (approx. $200). We did the call over FaceTime. Dr. Price was recorded remotely. Neither of us have any affiliation with any of the companies or products listed. We also provide information on upcoming episodes. We are currently on a short hiatus in order to coordinate schedules and line up interviews. Currently we have two major projects in the works including an interview with the Treatment Advocacy Center and an in-depth episode on the insanity defense. Our artwork was hand-painted by Jenn Koonz, Ph.D., and digitalized by Stephen Koonz. Our music was composed and performed by Adam Price. Both are used with permission. Steve Koonz did the general mixing on this episode before uploading to Auphonic (no affiliation). Garden of The Mind || The Audio LogsAL001 MARCH 10TH 2019In this first episode Mike and myself have some fun learning how to use a new device. We took a trip to Guitar Center and bought The Zoom H4N Pro handheld recorder. Naturally we had to get some audio files down to test it. So, we explain what these logs are going to be about while we play with the new toy and learn some things to get ready for interviewing.Stay #TrueSteadfastHumble
In this episode I share everything I've learned about how to create a podcast. This was recorded live when I gave it as a session at the Social Enterprise Unconference in Levin in mid February 2019. One of my dreams for seeds was to teach others so they could start their own podcast so if you are interested in learning more then drop me a line and happy to help answer your questions - steven@theseeds.nz. This is the 86th episode - if you enjoy it then check out some of the others, subscribe and leave a rating and review. Boo! In honor of the Halloween season, I’m serving up advice from our spooky supernatural friends, the ghosts! Ghosting: When a person cuts off all communication with their friends or the person they're dating, with zero warning or notice before hand. You'll mostly see them avoiding friend's phone calls, social media, and avoiding them in public.* Do NOT do this to your podcast listeners! I know, sometimes podcasting is frustrating. It’s a lot more work and takes more time than anyone ever lets on in the beginning. And there’s the whole downloads thing -- Apple is not the promised land of instant subscribers and an immediate crowd of podcast fans. Your show may not be the overnight success you imagined it would be. But trust me -- your listeners are out there, and they need you. So what to do? Shannon Crow from The Connected Yoga Teacher is with me on this episode to talk podcasting and social impact. Actually, she reached out to me originally to talk about impostor syndrome (one of my fave topics), so we cover that too! I LOVE what Shannon is doing with her podcast, and even more so with her community of yoga teachers, the hub of which is her Facebook Group. In fact, you may or may not know that before podcasting, my primary work was teaching yoga and meditation. I even owned and operated my own studio in Chicago for FIVE years and ultimately had to close because I just couldn't find a way to make the business profitable and sustainable with the resources I had available. Shannon Crow is definitely a podcaster using this platform to make a positive social impact. Whether you're into yoga or not, there's a lot you can learn from her. We are talking all about Podcasting for TV Fans! Well… TV AND movies, specific shows AND genres… It’s all things “fan-casting!” So full confession, fancasts are not a genre of podcast I typically listen to so after talking with Troy Heinritz of The Blacklist Exposed in episode 30, I got curious about what makes a good show, particularly the community building aspects because I think ALL OF US podcasters and aspiring podcasters can learn a lot from these producers. To help me out, I enlisted the expertise of 4 show creators: Shannon Entin of Stinger TV and Movie Podcast, Ozarks Dirty Laundry and The Supreme American Horror Story Podcast Theo Burbank of Freaky Franchise Ginger Wiseman of The Outlander Podcast AND The All Souls Podcast Matt Marr of TV Tea Time, a Riverdale fancast — y’all know if you listen to my other show The Creative Impostor, I love Matt. He was featured on episode 072 of The Creative Impostor talking about vulnerability, being an artist and his other podcast The Dear Mattie Show. A halloween gift for you! This month, October 2018, over on my LinkedIn, I’m sharing podcasting tips, practices and fun all around a Halloween theme and I’m kicking it off with a Tarot Card spread for your Podcast Content Marketing Plan. Episode 025. One of the magical things about podcasting is that sometimes you get to have a great conversation with someone who may have different opinions than you AND simultaneously find out how much you have in common. Episode 020. Are you having trouble falling asleep? I’d like to introduce you to, Harris, Host of the Sleep Whispers podcast, whispered ramblings and readings to help you sleep. You know… ASMR stuff! I’ve been featured, or, rather, guided meditations I’ve written have been whispered by Harris on his show. The latest one is here (episode 123 Fade Out!) But if you can’t go to sleep JUST yet, these podcasting tips from Harris will help give you something to think about during your waking hours: #1 - Regardless of what other podcasters tell you, you can't "give" your audience value. The value of your podcast content is determined by each listener, they will decide if it has value. The analogy is like saying you are going to tell a funny joke. Nope, each person who hears a joke decides if it is funny to them. The important message here is to ask for feedback and listen to any you get, that is the only way you will know if your content has value (or if your jokes are funny). Harris, I couldn’t agree more! For more tips from Harris, listen to the episode! --- Subscribe to Sleep Whispers on Apple/iTunes or Android/Google. FEATURED PODCAST ANGEL!
