Tara Erickson & John Humphrey react to Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021), the heartfelt and nostalgic supernatural adventure directed by Jason Reitman (Juno, Up in the Air) and produced by Ivan Reitman, returning the franchise to its roots while introducing a brand-new generation of Ghostbusters. Set decades after the original films, Afterlife blends legacy, mystery, and family in a story that honors the past while forging an exciting new future. The film stars McKenna Grace (The Haunting of Hill House, Captain Marvel) as Phoebe, a brilliant but socially awkward young girl who discovers her connection to the original Ghostbusters. Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things, IT) plays her brother Trevor, navigating teenage chaos while uncovering the truth about their family's eerie inheritance. Carrie Coon (The Leftovers, Gone Girl) portrays their mother Callie, struggling to rebuild her life after inheriting a mysterious farmhouse in Summerville. Paul Rudd (Ant-Man, Clueless) adds charm and comedy as Mr. Grooberson, a science teacher with a passion for the paranormal — and for Ghostbusters history. The film also features returning franchise legends including Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and unseen archival elements honoring Harold Ramis as Egon Spengler. And for me and my bro, one of those games was Jaws for the NES.To be fair, it actually isn't the worst NES game based on a movie in the NES library. Or the worst LJN NES game for that matter. You sail around in a boat killing animals and collecting shells that you use for stronger guns to shoot Jaws. You also bomb jellyfish from a plane. And that's, well, that's pretty much. It isn't particular deep, but it's not particularly awful, either. My boy Dan from Dissect That Film returns to this week to talk about hunting sharks. He also gives me a bit of an explanation as to how this ties into the movie, WHICH movie it ties into, and we talk about ideas for a modern jaws game as well. This episode is longer than the game is. It's not a flex, but it is a fact. And before we look for a bigger boat, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week someone asks if Mass Effect 1 is worth getting through to reach the phenomenal Mass Effect 2? A few people ask about Kingdom Hearts, so I share my long-standing thoughts on that series and why I don't want to touch it. And what do I consider to be must-play NES and SNES games??Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 NES movie games: Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, and Nightmare on Elm Street.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Hi everyone, Happy Tuesday! This year, I dressed up as the Marshmallow Man for Halloween, so it's only fitting that I have Ernie Hudson on the show this week! Ernie famously played Winston Zeddmore in Ghostbusters. He has also appeared in many, many other projects, including films like The Crow, Airheads and Miss Congeniality and on TV on Oz, Grace and Frankie, LA's Finest and most recently as L. C. Duncan in The Family Business. It was such an honor to sit down with Ernie and we immediately got along. We talk about his childhood and the emotional moment last year when the street he grew up on was renamed in his honor. We also get into the inner strength he's developed riding the highs and lows of an almost 60 year (!) career in show business. There is so much we can all learn from Ernie and I hope you get as much out of this conversation as I did. If you want to hear more about Ernie and get updates on my own life, be sure to check out the Hindsight for this episode over on Patreon! Tara Erickson & John Humphrey react to Ghostbusters (2016), the high-energy supernatural comedy reboot directed by Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, Spy) that reimagines the beloved franchise with a hilarious all-female team of paranormal investigators. Combining sharp humor, wild ghost action, and nostalgic callbacks to the 1984 classic, this reboot brings new life (and slime) to a fan-favorite world. The film stars Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids, The Martian) as Dr. Erin Gilbert, a physicist determined to establish her credibility when her old paranormal book resurfaces. She reunites with her eccentric former colleague Abby Yates, played by Melissa McCarthy (Spy, The Heat), who continues to research the supernatural alongside brilliant engineer Jillian Holtzmann, played by Kate McKinnon (Saturday Night Live, Barbie). Look, when it came to calling people in the 80s there were only two options--the Ghostbusters, and 976-EVIL. This is the movie about the folks who picked wrong, and if you want a fun campy silly 80s horror schlock spectacular then this is the film for you!
As Star Wars was being developed back in the mid-70s, the maverick special effects crew at ILM were pioneering new filmmaking technologies in often unconventional ways. In the early days, machinist Stuart Ziff found himself thrust into the action on day one. In the years that followed, Stuart used his skills in a variety of ways at ILM including working on Return of the Jedi creature costumes like Admiral Ackbar, Nein Nunb and Ree Yees, and on many projects from Dragonslayer to Ghostbusters to Jurassic Park. This week on RFR, Stuart joins us In The Cantina to share fascinating stories about working on the Star Wars Original Trilogy and beyond. Plus, our review of Star Wars Visions season 3 and Jimmy Mac had the opportunity to see a Star Wars Holiday Special legend perform live in Chicago. Listen to find out who it was!

It is really hard to make a good comedy sequel, and the Ghostbusters team did their best. While it is not even close to the original, Ghostbusters II has to be considered one of the better comedy sequels. We pinpoint what prevented it from being as good as the first, which has a lot to do with its shift to a more family-friendly script off the success of The REAL Ghostbusters cartoon. Thanks for listening to our nostalgic movie podcast, and let us know what you think of the new intro music. We got ordered a takedown of AAF! Be kind, rewind, relax, and enjoy the podcast!

Explore the lore this Halloween... if you dare!

In this episode of The Filmumentaries Podcast, I sit down with sibling filmmakers Claire and Anthony Bueno, the creative team behind Cleanin' Up the Town: Remembering Ghostbusters - a feature documentary more than a decade in the making, and the definitive oral history of one of the most beloved comedies of all time. The Buenos spent years interviewing dozens of cast and crew members from the original Ghostbusters, including Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and the late Harold Ramis. The result is an extraordinary behind-the-scenes portrait that captures both the technical wizardry and the creative spirit that defined the 1984 classic. Claire's new companion book, also titled Cleanin' Up the Town, builds upon the documentary by presenting full-length interviews, previously unseen material, and new reflections from the filmmakers and craftspeople who brought Ghostbusters to life. In our conversation, Claire and Anthony share what it took to get the project made -the years of persistence, the challenges of rights and access, and the rewards of telling such a beloved story from a fan's perspective. Whether you're a lifelong Ghostbusters enthusiast or simply interested in independent documentary filmmaking, this is a fascinating glimpse into the dedication required to bring such a massive project to life. This podcast is completely independent and made possible by listener support. LOOK OUT! It's only Films To Be Buried With! A REWIND CLASSIC! Join your host Brett Goldstein as he talks life, death, love and the universe with the truly hilarious comic, writer and author, LESLIE JONES! Original writeup below, and for the record this is a top 5'er right here! So funny. ––––––––––––––––––––––––– An absolute award winner of an episode right here folks, as Leslie gets involved in the cinematical life and deathness of this whole thing we're in... It's nothing but joy from the first moment, but she and Brett also get into a ton of bits and pieces including leaving Saturday Night Live, the desire of a return to acting (villains specifcally), doing a bunch of standup, being a night owl kid, Ghostbusters, Shirley Temple, bad knees as an aphrodisiac and on top of all that, a RED HOT new film pitch or two from them both. Could you ask for more? I mean, you could but it would speak well to your sheer greed... ENJOY! It's one for the books.
