This week on Revenue Rehab, our host Brandi Starr is joined by Janice B. Gordon, Founder of Scale Your Sales. Meet Janice B. Gordon, a trailblazer in customer growth and sales innovation with over 20 years of experience. Named one of LinkedIn Sales' 15 Innovating Sales Influencers, Janice bridges the gap between people and processes to fuel revenue growth. As the founder of the Scale Your Sales Framework and host of the "Scale Your Sales Podcast," she's a vocal advocate for diversity within sales teams. In this episode of Revenue Rehab, Brandi and Janice delve into the transformative impact of having diverse voices in leadership. They explore why traditional recruitment methods fall short and how to effectively engage a diverse customer base by building inclusive sales teams. Listen in for insightful strategies on fostering diversity, the economic imperative behind it, and actionable steps for creating high-performing, diverse teams. Bullet Points of Key Topics + Chapter Markers: Topic #1: The Economic Imperative for Diversity [08:14] "It's crucial to shift from a moral standpoint to an economic one. Diverse teams are 33% more likely to outperform. This isn't just about doing the right thing—it's about enhancing productivity and profitability," asserts Janice B. Gordon. Topic #2: Traditional Recruitment Pitfalls [15:22] "Traditional recruitment methods are not serving us anymore. We need to reach a wider community early on to truly increase diversity in our recruitment pools. It's about creating opportunities, not just checking boxes," emphasizes Janice B. Gordon. Topic #3: The Importance of Diverse Leadership [29:08] "To drive real change, we must start by assessing the diversity of our senior management and board. This promotes awareness and gentle agitation for change," Janice B. Gordon says. "It's about understanding where we are and what steps we need to take to improve." These key topics explore Janice B. Gordon's insights on the economic benefits of diversity, the necessity of revamping traditional recruitment methods, and the importance of diverse leadership in driving significant organizational change. What's One Thing You Can Do Today? Janice's 'One Thing' is for leaders to conduct an introspective evaluation of their organization's senior leadership and board diversity. “Take a close look at who is on your senior management team and board. Assess the level of diversity within these groups, and acknowledge any gaps that exist. This awareness is the first step in agitating for change, and it will set the groundwork for creating a more inclusive and representative environment at the highest levels of your company.” By starting with this evaluation, you pave the way for fostering diversity that naturally trickles down through the organization, setting a precedent for an inclusive company culture. Buzzword Banishment Janice's Buzzword to Banish is ‘hunter' and ‘target'. Janice wants to banish these terms because she feels, "they are militaristic and disrespectful to customers, framing the relationship as adversarial rather than collaborative." She advocates for using more respectful language that recognizes the value and humanity of the customers. Welcome to a brand new episode of the ¿Quién Tú Eres? podcast, where we explore the conflict we often face between "professionalism" & being our authentic selves. This week's guest is Rachel Lowenstein. Rachel is the Global Head of Inclusive Innovation at Mindshare, leading strategy and innovation for how brands use marketing, media, and technology to reshape society for good. A respected industry thought leader, Rachel has worked with some of the biggest brands in the world, including Unilever and Booking.com. As an autistic woman, Rachel is a content creator on TikTok, LinkedIn, and Instagram to educate and advocate for neuroinclusion. Rachel has over 90,000 people in her community across platforms because of her unique perspectives as a creative leader who is autistic. In this eye-opening episode, we dive into Rachel's incredible journey of self-discovery, as she shares how her autism diagnosis became a catalyst for improving her mental well-being and unleashing her creativity in the workplace. Before receiving her diagnosis, Rachel grappled with a challenging concept known as "masking," commonly experienced by autistic individuals. She felt compelled to hide her true traits or behaviors to fit into society's mold of being "neurotypical," leading to feelings of being misunderstood and overstimulated by societal pressures to be constantly available. However, everything changed after her diagnosis. Armed with the knowledge of her condition, Rachel realized that she wasn't "crazy" for feeling the way she did. This newfound understanding empowered her to embrace her authentic self and unapologetically express her unique qualities. Now, she passionately helps others in the workplace and their daily lives to embrace their true selves, fostering a culture of acceptance and inclusivity. Unser heutiger Gast hat Wirtschaft in Furtwangen, Hagen, Moskau und London studiert. Seinen Master of Science hat er an der “London School of Economics and Political Science” - kurz LSE - in Management , Organisations and Governance abgelegt. Der von uns ebenfalls sehr geschätzte Autor Daniel Pink fasst “The Serendipity Mindset” für uns so zusammen: “A bracing and hopeful antidote to a world addicted to efficiency and control." Ihr seid bei On the Way to New Work - heute mit Christian Busch.

In this episode, Valencia Martin Wallace and I do a critical examination of our innovation ecosystem and how we can make it more diverse and inclusive. Valencia is the Deputy Commissioner for Patents for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and is the executive lead for the USPTO's Council for Inclusive Innovation (CI2). Valencia shares data regarding how women and minorities are underrepresented in the innovation ecosystem. You can feel her passion for the topic and for strengthening the innovation and IP community as a whole. In this episode, Jeff Harty and Valencia Martin Wallace discuss: Valencia's passion for growth and support in the IP community. The creation of CI2 and why it is necessary. The benefits of having a more diverse innovation ecosystem. Strategies and initiatives to build a more diverse and inclusive innovation ecosystem by encouraging participation demographically, geographically, and economically.Key Takeaways: While 30 percent of engineers and scientists who are working professionally are women, less than 12 percent have their names on patents. The story does not end when an invention is patented—it takes a community to take the patented invention further into commercialization and usage. By closing the gender gap, $12–$28 trillion can be added to the global economy. Innovators are not created; they are born. It is a matter of helping those innovators get a rich education and giving them opportunities to help not only themselves, but also the nation. “It takes a community to move forward in every field but especially when integrating technology and law.” — Valencia Martin Wallace About Valencia Martin Wallace: As deputy commissioner for patents, Valencia manages and leads the USPTO's efforts related to international IP harmonization and provides executive oversight over patent-examining functions in the technologies of communication, mechanical engineering, manufacturing, and medical devices and processes. She provides executive leadership on international patent legal issues and various work-sharing efforts with international partners. Valencia is the executive lead for the USPTO's Council for Inclusive Innovation (CI2). The CI2 will help guide the USPTO in developing a comprehensive national strategy to build a more diverse and inclusive innovation ecosystem. As deputy commissioner for patent quality, Valencia was responsible for sustaining the quality of the patent examination processes and products. In her 28-year career at the USPTO, she also oversaw software technology centers, served as executive co-lead on the implementation of the AIA First-Inventor-to-File statutory framework, and led the implementation of the Office of Patent Examination Support Services.Valencia earned a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from Howard University and a juris doctorate from The George Washington University School of Law.
