Mental health problems, just like physical problems, range from a boo boo to a full blown crisis. We know how to take care of our physical bodies but business owners are both stoic and, with mental health - kind of accident prone. There's a lot of pressure. In this deeply personal episode, Mike Morrison (founder of Membership Geeks) joins me for an honest discussion about mental health in entrepreneurship, sharing his own experience of clinical depression and building a successful online business.3 Key Takeaways:1. Create a "zone of peacefulness" around your business by setting clear boundaries and being selective with clients. It's not about being difficult - it's about protecting your mental wellbeing.2. The gap between your public persona and private reality can create mental strain. Being authentic about your struggles doesn't diminish your brand - it makes you human.3. Success doesn't eliminate mental health challenges. Even highly successful entrepreneurs deal with imposter syndrome and anxiety. The key is acknowledging these feelings and seeking appropriate support.Resources MentionedMembership GeeksInstagram: @membershipgeeksConnect with Mike MorrisonFind Mike Morrison and Membership Geeks across social media platforms @membershipgeeks, with Instagram being his primary platform for engagement.----Get your copy of my Personal Brand Business Blueprint It's the FREE roadmap to starting, scaling or just fixing your expert business.www.amplifyme.agency/roadmap----Subscribe to my Youtube!! The Whole You: Work, Home Life host Joe Serio and Forbes Senior Writer and behavioral scientist Tanya Tarr continue their dynamic conversation about the how and why of personal well-being. Together they delve into the intriguing concept of a "House of Well-Being" and a "Workplace of Well-Being." This transformative discussion will leave you inspired to redesign your life for success. Here are just a few of the mind-opening lessons learned that can truly reshape the way we approach our health and work environment. 1. The concept of your "house of well-being" encourages exploring the different rooms of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health for a well-rounded life journey. 2. Simplify your well-being check-ins by focusing on 3-4 key areas instead of overwhelming yourself with endless objectives – it's all about keeping it nimble. 3. Pay attention to the rooms you neglect in your well-being house; they often hold the keys to unlocking your true balance. 4. Community connections are essential for emotional and cultural health - find your 'church energy' in unexpected places like kickboxing clubs or adult kickball leagues. 5. By breaking down your environments into different spaces, such as bedroom, office, or car environments, you can effectively pinpoint areas that need immediate attention and those that can wait. 6. The power of intentional transitions lies in helping your nervous system and overall well-being find a sense of closure and rejuvenation. 7. Approach your workplace of well-being with the same mindfulness as your house of well-being; navigating office dynamics, policies, and relationships play a vital role in your overall wellness journey. Why Listen: If you're feeling overwhelmed by the demands of daily life, seeking ways to enhance your overall well-being, or looking to foster a healthier work environment, this episode is a must-listen. Joe and Tanya's practical advice, deep insights, and relatable anecdotes will inspire you to make small, impactful changes that lead to significant transformations in your physical, mental, emotional, and cultural health. Tune in for actionable strategies, expert tips, and a fresh perspective on living your best life, both at home and in the workplace.

Jeremy Walker is the co-founder of Exercism and Kaido. In this episode, Jeremy first shared about Exercism, a not-for-profit online platform for learning different programming languages. Later, Jeremy then talked about Kaido, an employee culture platform for building happier, healthier, and better connected teams. He shared how companies could strive to do more to build company culture before then shared some practical tips on how we can improve our personal wellbeing. My definitions of success and joy are my own and I must not forget how I will be remembered. I must work daily on retaining my originality, my integrity and my undying resilience. And I must self-preserve if I have to strive for freedom, justice and equality for our future generations. I must not give up and not wait for another moment to buy a meal for anyone less fortunate than I am. Yes, I can feel unbridled joy even in the middle of social isolation. Like Nature that is continuous, eternal and unyielding, I can seek refuge in my present moment. Even in the presence of a pandemic with no end in sight. Why Covid-19 is causing you anxiety, and what to do about it. Some initial research into the first month of COVID-19 found mental health difficulties were at least twice as prevalent as in non-pandemic circumstances. For some people the restrictions around COVID-19 are a blip in their lives, for others the impact is significant and ongoing. And, as to be expected, the people most impacted are the most vulnerable in society. The need for practical, positive, flexible self-care to manage this ongoing anxiety and stress is clear. In this podcast I share with you some positive and practical self-care tips from my Live YOUR best life: The RoadMap to Personal Wellbeing for Women who do too Much and the Positive and Practical Self-Care for Mental Health Professionals Programs, based on the Five Foundations of Self-Care. For further information on anything in this podcast email Kim at creatingconnectionsthatmatter@gmail.com And of course, if your level of stress and anxiety is significant please seek professional assistance. I am available for online consultations, there are a number of organisations providing free support, in particular Beyond Blue, otherwise check in with your GP as your first point of call.- _____________________ How can I feel more connected? A required course for all Freshmen on Personal Wellbeing facilitated by a Wellbeing Coach? A multi-layered system for educator support? It's actually a thing at the high school in Lake Forest, IL, a suburb of Chicago. Dr. Matt Dewar, the wellbeing coach for the district describes the program and why it's so effective. In addition to providing his go-to tips for on-the-spot stress reduction, he explains the importance of breath and our mind-body connection as well as how our society's view of intense exercise as a stress-reliever might not be as effective as we think it is.

Do you use mobile apps on your cell phone to monitor your health? Dr. Laura Crosswell, an Assistant Professor of Health Communication, says that “though these apps can help facilitate the communication between a physician and/or medical facility, they also leave a gap.” This, because not all people have access to tech gadgets, computers, or smartphones. Dr. Crosswell recently published a paper in Perspectives in Public Health titled "The doctor in my pocket: examining mobile approaches to personal wellbeing." Dr. Todd Felts, an Assistant Professor of Strategic Communication, and a co-host on this episode, agrees and says that “there is room for improvement in training doctors on how to communicate in a ‘mobile format’ in today’s modern world”. The host and producer for this episode is Issmar Ventura, a graduate student at the Reynolds School of Journalism.
In episode 009, I I had the pleasure of chatting with Mikey Lion. Mikey is a DJ, label boss and cofounder of Desert Hearts. The importance of Desert Hearts in my own life can not be overstated and so this episode with Mikey means quite a bit to me. We covered some good ground with the limited time we had for the chat. Here, we talk about what it's like to be a touring DJ and one of the faces behind a surging movement, while learning to take better care of mind and body. Mikey also opens up on having a major anxiety attack before his set at Desert Hearts 2019 and we compare notes on our quest for the “Super Brain”.
