Hosted by editor and journalist Michael Schneider, it delves deep into the rapidly evolving film industry. In this episode, we bring together a diverse group of industry experts for a dynamic conversation about the ever-evolving world of TV series. We delve into what makes a series truly international—what allows a show to break through cultural and language barriers and resonate with audiences worldwide? Is it the warmth of relatable characters that audiences are seeking during challenging times, or is it the exploration of social-political issues and dystopian themes that capture our collective attention? Ultimately, the answer lies in universally compelling stories that speak to viewers beyond the confines of a single market. While it may be a tougher feat for comedy, there's a clear call for future series to transcend these boundaries and reach a global audience. In this discussion, Anna Rohde, Steve Matthews, Maria Cervera, and Paul Telegdy offer their unique perspectives on the international series market, providing predictions on where global audiences are headed next. They also explore the current trends shaping the industry, including the impact of financial shifts. Tune in to hear the experts tackle the future of series content and its journey across the globe. The Berlinale Series Market is the EFM's boutique market for serial content from all over the world. From February 16 to 19, industry experts, creatives, buyers and distributors will meet again at CinemaxX at Potsdamer Platz and Gropius Bau. Steve Matthews is the Head of Scripted, Creative, at Banijay Entertainment, where he plays a pivotal role in the group's production development process, leading on creative initiatives for original drama projects. Before joining Banijay Entertainment, Matthews was VP and Executive Producer, Scripted, at HBO Europe, having joined the business back in 2014. In that post, he partnered with local teams across Central Europe, Spain and Nordics, to spearhead the development of original series, miniseries, and international adaptations. His portfolio included Pustina, Umbre, Blinded By The Lights, Uspjeh, The Sleepers, Foodie Love, Gösta; and from Banijay Entertainment's footprint specifically, 30 Coins (Pokeepsie), Beforeigners (Rubicon), and Beartown (Filmlance). Additionally, Matthews is dedicated to mentoring talent, and set up Banijay Bootcamp, a specific programme for scripted creatives. Before joining Germany's distribution and production house Beta Film GmbH as International Creative Executive & Content Editor, Anna Rohde studied dramaturgy, philosophy, and literature at Munich's Theatre Academy and at Ludwig Maximilian University Munich. Before her studies, she worked as assistant director in many national and international TV and feature films. She is member of Germany's VeDRA (Verband für Film- und Fernsehdramaturgie e.V.), jury member of e.g. the International Emmy's semi-finals, the Council of Europe Eurimages development award and – among others - mentor of SFF's (Sarajevo Film Festival) CineLink workshop, the post-graduate Serial Eyes writing program. As content editor, she has been working on many internationally successful shows from the CEE region, most recently on the multi-awarded THE SILENCE (2021-2023) and GOLDEN BOY (2021), Jasmila Zbanic's Venice premiered I KNOW YOUR SOUL (2023), and the Canneseries-awarded OPERATION SABRE (2024). Maria Cervera is Head of Content for Cattleya Producciones, part of ITV Studios in Spain. During her 20 year+ professional path she has focused on series development and production for local and international markets, with previous roles at Paramount's International TV Studio as Head of Content for EMEAA and within the Netflix International team. She also teaches at several writing programs including Berlin's Serial Eyes and Spain's screenwriters' guild-sponsored master. Paul Telegdy has worked across all genres of content, on brands as diverse as Top Gear, Teletubbies, Dr Who, The Voice and Planet Earth, to name a handful. Paul worked at NBCUniversal for 12 years, becoming Chairman of NBC in 2019, before that the BBC for ten years. In 2021, Paul co-founded The Whole Spiel, a media, entertainment, and gaming company based in Berlin and Los Angeles. With a degree in Korean and Japanese, and having lived in Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Japan, The US and the UK, Paul has a distinctly global view of content and opportunity. The host Michael Schneider has been covering the business of television for more than 25 years — most of that time at Variety, where he oversees television coverage as its TV Editor. Schneider has won several entertainment journalism awards and also regularly contributes to local outlets including Spectrum News 1 and KCRW. He was previously Executive Editor at IndieWire; the Chief Content Officer for TV Guide Magazine; and TV Editor at Daily Variety. Mike regularly moderates industry and TV show panels at events including Comic-Con, PaleyFest, HRTS, NATPE and others, and once won a staring contest with Jon Hamm on the Dolby Theatre stage. This podcast episode has been developed in collaboration with Variety. The Berlinale's European Film Market is the first international film market of the year, where the film industry starts its business. Industry Insights - The EFM Podcast puts a spotlight on highly topical and trendsetting industry issues, thereby creating a compass for the forthcoming film year. Get in position! This week, Emily and V look at one of the most impressive fan campaigns that we've ever covered on the show, and we also got to revisit one of our favorite fandoms to cover: Forever Knight. When FK was canceled mid-season in 1996, the fandom scrambled to cover all bases and make sure USA Network knew that these vampires needed their day in the sun. So to speak. What ensued was a bold takeover of the NATPE (National Association of Television Program Executives, aka TPTB's bosses' bosses) conference in Las Vegas. The tale is delightful. Those seven ladies were seven Nick Furies, only with a deep love for Canadian vampire cops. Have you ever been part of a fannish campaign to save a show? Let us know! A Panel with Podcasting Over-Achievers: Desai, Washington, Wilson, Lantigua-Wilson – Epi 33

I had the good fortune of being asked by NATPE – the global trade association focused on the business of content, to help produce the first ever conference in the media/marketing industry dedicated to the topic of iterating IP from podcasting to TV and back again. What the heck does that mean? Well, it's basically around how TV shows are turning into podcasts to find new audiences and podcasting content has turned into TV shows and films.  Think Homeland, Dirty John, even Dirty Diana! So of course I made myself one of the moderators (oh, and a did a little co-hosting with actor Amy Hill (“Magnum, P.I.”)). But I wanted my panel to feel a little more like a podcast. So you'll hear some mini-1:1s with major insights from Steve Wilson, Chief Strategy Officer of QCode Media, Shaleen Desai, SVP of Adult Series for Warner Brothers Animation and their Blue Ribbon Content podcast division, Juleyka Lantigua-Williams (yes, from my “bonus episode,”) of Lantigua-Williams & Co., and Glynn Washington, Host/Executive Producer of Snap Judgment Studios. There's good news/bad news: This conference streams free on July 14, 2021. If you missed the full four hour event you'll want to join NATPE and to play that - and their myriad other conference about the content business, on demand. The good news is that at least you can hear some of THIS panel right here. The bad news? The audio is lifted right off of the conference recording. So some of the quality of the sound might not be perfect, but the quality of the content is excellent. With that, hear why I called this a panel of over-achievers who will wow you with their accomplishments, and their insights. Lantigua-Williams:  I am the founder of Lantigua-Williams & Co. We're an independent podcast and film studio, and we adopted the slogan erasing the margins earlier this year, after three years of thinking about what it is that we want to do in the world. And that seemed to fit. We try to tell stories that make it really complicated to put things and people in boxes. Washington: My name is Glynn Washington. I am the host of Snap Judgment and Snap Judgement Studios. We created the shows Spooked, Heaven's Gate and Snap Judgement. Wilson: I'm Steve Wilson. I'm chief strategy officer at QCode Media. We specialize in making original scripted fiction podcasts. We're really trying to tell new stories, with amazing creators and see them become the next wave of content that we all love in the world. Desai: I'm Shaleen Desai the senior vice president of Animation at Warner Brothers Animation. I also oversee our company's scripted podcasts initiative for Warner Media. Transcript: Moss: Steve, you spent 15 years at Apple, you're a font of knowledge. I think that you're probably putting that to good use at QCode, which is a relatively newer to the industry. So, I wanted to start with you so that you'd give us some building blocks. What inspired you to join QCode and skip retiring with the 'gold Apple watch'? Wilson: Well, I certainly did enjoy my time at Apple, working with partners in the content space. I did editorial and partner relations and marketing for apple podcasts for some time. In working with partners, always envisioned myself, going to the publisher side, having the opportunity to, not just be on the platform side, but really work with original stories and amazing partners. Got to work with everyone in the podcast industry, some incredible people, including the panelists here. And, as I looked across the industry, I was fascinated by what QCode was doing. The company that started about two years ago by a former agent named Rob Herting. And Rob had seen time and again how Hollywood can be risk-averse, and it can be challenging, to start new stories. QCode was founded to try to build new properties and audio experiences for people that the world had never heard before. And something I'd point out at the top is it's interesting in all the media that we consume how,

It's been a busy couple of months for me in podcasting... so I didn't get to podcasting! Here's what I mean: This is a BONUS episode...actually a republication of Epi 12 featuring my interview with Juleyka Lantigua-Williams from exactly one year ago. She is a force to be reckoned with, a holder of two masters and embracer of two kids and a proud publisher of a show with 1 million downloads now. Yup, "Latina to Latina" just crossed the million listen mark this week. But there's more you can hear in my interview with her as part of CONTENTCAST next week! Whaat? Well, I've been busy with podcasting...and TV...in producing the first-ever conference about the intersection of those platforms as cross-over IP. That means a HECK of a lot of companies are turning popular podcasts into TV or film content and TV companies are expanding their shows into fan engagement podcasts. Trust me, it's all the rage. Want to hear it from the experts? Then register for free and catch this huge conference created by NATPE, the global content trade association, on July 14th, 2021: https://natpe.com/contentcast. Just look at the SPEAKERS tab! See what I mean? From Kevin Pollak to Glynn Washington...the heads of SiriusXM to Tegna to iHeartMedia to Triton Digital to...well, you get the picture. Did I mention I also corralled my friend Amy Hill into hosting?(And yes, you heard us chat around a year ago on my other podcast, "It's Quite A Living!" Keep your friends close....) So, that's why this is Epi 12 REDUX. What Juleyka had to say a year ago is still important and appropriate today...only the numbers have changed. (But there are also twice as many podcasts published now as there were then! Yup, we also have Edison Research and Nielsen sharing info at ContentCast. Thanks for listening...and learning... and I hope I see you at ContentCast!

From Print to Podcasts and Back: Kathy Doyle of MacMillian

Insider Interviews

Kathy Doyle embodies the early bird that catches the worm. Early into her freshman year of college she aimed to give the commencement speech for her class in four years’ time. She got the honor -- and forty-eight hours later was offered her first job in media. Then, as you’ll hear her describe in this episode, Doyle was part of the earliest team building out The Wall Street Journal Online (yes, I sing the dial up tones for her). Then, being an early riser, she started to listen to podcasts well before Serial was even a thing. And guess what? She was an early-stage employee on the podcast team of Macmillan Publishing. The Macmillan division of morphed out of a prescient move to team up with Grammar Girl podcast phenom Mignon Fogarty – and quickly evolved into the Quick and Dirty Tips Network of short form helpful content. (Perhaps it’s fitting that Doyle’s career was launched with a speech.) Now, with the addition of a narrative network, their podcasts garner millions of monthly listens – and recently also scored an inaugural Ambie Award for their stunning show, Driving The Green Book. Macmillan is the only one of the “big five” publishers with its own podcast network. As Doyle says, “It’s been our vision to serve our authors the best way possible. And audio emerging the way that it did certainly created an opportunity for us to use podcasting as best advantage whether that's through an audio book excerpt or interviews or guest series...” In a media world where everyone is aiming to flow content cross platform it’s a surprising exclusive advantage. (As a matter of fact, we discuss the conference I’m producing for NATPE about the proliferation of TV brands leveraging podcasting, as well. Please register free to attend ContentCast on July 14th!) While she provided many serious business takeaways, we also learned how one phone call, and frequent dog walking, helped lead to Doyle’s career success, and of the drama of “dial-up days” during early-stage internet jobs. And you won’t believe what's got Doyle’s gobsmacked about podcasting these days (yes, I checked the spelling, Grammar Girl fans out there): the evolution of the host read ad. I know, I wasn’t expecting that answer either. But you’ll appreciate how she illustrates the issue with an example from a men’s underwear advertiser. In all seriousness, host read ads are a major topic in the business of podcasting as we balance the goal for perceived alignment with an influential personality with personalization enabled by companies like A Million Ads or Frequency. (Note: I’ll discuss the power of influencers in the upcoming Epi 32 with Danielle Wiley of Sway.) For Doyle, the learning was about balance: how to deliver a strong response while preserving the integrity of hosts and authors. But another balancing act is tied to revenue and the competition for ears and ad dollars. Another business consideration is discoverability. That’s where Doyle and team did a wide scale collaboration with Apple for the notable Driving the Green Book. Hear how they did, in fact, leverage cross-platform promotion in innovative ways – from reading lists to playlists. (Note: Hear show producer Juleyka Lantigua Williams on this from Episode 12 of Insider Interviews.) “I think it keeps a lot of us in this industry up at night. We talk about revenue diversification a lot. In fact, I just did a panel for Digital Hollywood on revenue diversification. ...You can't just rely on the ad model anymore. You have to find new ways -- like exploiting a podcast into a book or a film and TV. I think it's going to be fascinating to see how podcasters leverage new tools that are available now through Spotify and apple, which have been available through Stitcher and Luminary, to be strategic about your content and then finding ways to expand and enhance that through a premium subscription. I think three or four years ago, I would've said absolutely not,

Jason Gregory, writer and producer of the film Waking Up White Who is Jason Gregory? Jason D. Gregory is a recent film production MFA graduate from the University of Central Florida’s Nicholson School of Communication and Media (Go Knights!). As a child, he recalls that his friends wanted to “be like Mike,” while Gregory’s dream was to “be like Spike.”   He received his undergraduate degree in film from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2002 and during his studies, Gregory was selected, twice, as a participant in the Zora Neale Hurston/Richard Wright Writer’s Workshop.   In 2010, Gregory founded his own Telly-award-winning, multicultural advertising agency, Gregory Media Group, LLC. Yet, he still yearned for the “business of show.”   Jason Gregory took the plunge to chase his childhood dream and in 2016 enrolled in the MFA film production program where he immediately began writing his thesis project, Waking Up White. Filmed as a television pilot, Waking Up White is the story of a Black family that wakes up White and has 30 days to determine if they’d rather return to their cultural roots or stick with the “new skin” they’re in. Since its development, the pilot script for has been selected as a 2018 Quarterfinalist in ScreenCraft’s Film Fund and Pilot Launch TV Script competitions and a 2018 Semifinalist in the WeScreenplay Television Competition. The television pilot has recently been submitted to various local, national and international film festivals, while also garnering local and regional media coverage.   And because of his commitment to nurturing and mentoring the next generation of filmmakers, Gregory was recently appointed as the president of the Orlando Urban Film Festival; a festival dedicated to promoting and supporting minority films and filmmakers.   In 2018, Gregory was selected to participate in the National Association of Television Producers and Executive’s (NATPE) first Emerging Producers Workshop, where thirteen “emerging producers” where brought together to discuss the future of unscripted, reality television programming. As a result of that workshop, Gregory and the other producers formed 13 Brains; an unscripted, reality television “think tank.” Under the mentorship of Scott Sternberg Productions, 13 Brains develops unscripted, TV concepts and pitches them to networks and streaming platforms. Since its establishment in 2018, 13 Brains has successfully sold its first concept to Netflix, and continues to cultivate and pitch additional programming.   As a graduate student, Gregory was the recipient of the 2019 College of Arts and Humanities Graduate Student Teaching Award and the inaugural Nicholson School of Communication and Media’s Outstanding Teaching Graduate Programs Award. He was nominated for his commitment to teaching his students to “fail their way to success” and is honored to have received both awards.   In 2019, Gregory completed another childhood dream and joined UCF’s English department as a scriptwriting lecturer. In this position, he will continue to mold, mentor and challenge his students to find their voice through the art of scriptwriting.   Finally, Gregory has been married to his wife, Monique, whom he affectionally calls “the girl next door”, for 16 years and they reside in Oviedo, Florida with their two sons, Austin and Miles.   Key Questions answered by Jason Gregory: How to write a winning screenplay Advice Jason has for creatives Is an MFA necessary Why it’s OK to start your dream job later in life Best piece of advice Jason has received Jason’s definition of success Who inspires Jason and why A habit that’s helped Jason on his journey What Jason wants his legacy to be   Jason Gregory Discusses: Writing vs Producing Understanding the game Fears writers grapple with Age and following one’s dream     Key Takeaways from Jason Gregory:   You’re never too old to pursue your dreams The older you are the more life experiences you will have to draw from There are many free options to learn and study on the internet Keep at it, don’t stop Take calculated risks Be consistent     Listen on Apple Podcasts, Soundcloud, Stitcher and Google Play Click here to subscribe via RSS feed (non-iTunes feed): https://funnybrowngirl.libsyn.com/rss   Announcements If you’re looking for a community of supportive creative entrepreneurs to elevate your journey to the next level, join me here: https://funnybrowngirl.com/facebook Subscribe to my newsletter of creative resources, including opportunities and fellowships at https://funnybrowngirl.com/subscribe    Social Media Info Connect on Instagram:   Jason Gregory – @jaydgreg FunnyBrownGirl – @funnybrowngirl    Resources for Film and Screenwriting Episodic Labs: https://episodiclab.staymacro.com/   Script Lab: https://360.thescriptlab.com/   Script Anatomy: https://www.scriptanatomy.com/ Black List: blcklst.com List of 2020 screenwriting competitions: https://www.wgfoundation.org/fellowship-writing-programs-for-screenwriters-masterlist   Ultimate Film Budget Guide: https://nofilmschool.com/film-budget-template   Screen writing course I took for the Issa Rae competition: https://www.coursera.org/learn/script-writing   #CreativeBreakthrough #CreativeBreakthroughPodcast #CreativeHustler

Latin talent manager Isabel Echeverry had a vision many years ago while working at ICM to help Latinos make it in Hollywood. She has a self-described gift of connecting people and lifting them up. Cut to 10 years later and her vision is now a reality. Echeverry founded Kontakto and now represents some of Hollywoods top Latin actors and entertainment companies. Kontakto represents Emmy Award winner Sandra Vidal (Rica, Famosa, Latina), Vivian Lamolli (Warner Studios’ The Latin From Manhattan and Hulu's original East Los High), Eddie Martinez (Netflix’s Narcos: Mexico), Gabriel Tarantin (EL Baron on NBC/Telemundo), Natasha Perez (HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm), Mario Ponce (Mi Tu’s Cholo World), and Briana Roy (Reclaim, Recovery Road) just to name a few. Echeverry dropped by the MIH studio where she patiently waited for me to address some technical issues so we could begin our interview. And I'm so glad she did because our conversation was lively and full of great advice for latinos and non-latinos in the industry. Actors will appreciate this conversation the most because generously gave me advice on getting out of a non-booking rut that I think everyone will appreciate. It's not often you get to hear inside tips on auditioning, and industry trends straight from a manager who's in the thick of it. It's her generous spirit that has also helped her company grow. Kontakto currently has two films in pre-production, Bella and Aura.  The thriller feature film, Bella is produced by The Conjuring creators/producers Carey & Chad Hayes and Miles Hardy. Director Dylan Hayes is attached and the film is being packaged by CAA and slated to release in 2020.  Echeverry’s novel titled “Being Bella: Three Times Cursed" will be published simultaneously with the release of the film. Horror flick Aura is produced by Lucidity Entertainment and helmed by UTA’s James Moran. The much-anticipated films are also produced under the Kontakto slate and will star some of Hollywood’s top-tier talent.  In May 2019, it developed and produced True Exorcisms, a television documentary series which was an official selection at NATPE’s Omni Cultural Television Festival at the Egyptian Theatre. And she's risen to prominence as a latin talent manager while being a mom of three. She started her company 10 years ago just months after giving birth. She says her husband was instrumental in helping her succeed by helping at home and with the business. He is now her partner in all things Kontakto as well. Even though there is a lot on her plate and her company is growing, she tells me she still has plenty of big ideas for her clients and this business. And I for one will definitley be cheering her on. Devin Alexander, Media Personality, Multi-time New York Times Bestselling Author, Restaurateur, Healthy Comfort Food Chef, Weight Loss Expert, and Chef of NBC’s “The Biggest Loser,” is passionate about making women feel good. Today on the EO Podcast, Devin discusses her journey to entrepreneurship and overall health. Tune-in to learn how Devin put herself on the scene with persistence, research, and a bit of “stalkiness,” despite the challenges she faced personally and with others. Find out how Devin can now, with a smile, truly say that she’s “fantastic.” Time Stamped Show Notes: 00:40 – Devin’s Entrepreneurial Journey: She set out to make women feel great 00:49 – When she was 15 she weighed 200 pounds and was bullied in school; she wrote poems and knew that there was something better in store for her 01:15 – She didn’t get into school for theater, which is what she wanted; she started reading cookbooks and trying to lose weight by cutting just 100 calories a day 02:24 – She lost 25-35 pounds in the first year and never planned to be a chef, but through transforming her cooking and losing the weight, she transformed her mindset 02:50 – Devin feel that she still doesn’t have willpower, but by cooking in better ways she doesn’t need it 03:06 – She graduated from Smith College and got an apprenticeship with the Television Academy in LA 03:53 – She volunteered to cook at charity events and celebrities figured out that she could make people’s favorites much better 04:20 – She went to culinary school thinking she’d eventually go back to screenwriting 04:50 – She wound up owning a catering business and “ghostcooking,” where she’d cook and the client would take the credit 05:28 – She learned that this would be great for dates 05:56 – She went through a premature mid-life crisis at 27; she was too thin and her food issues came to a head and she didn’t feel good 06:20 – She wound up in Overeaters Anonymous and realized that catering was not her passion; she is an entrepreneur with a love for cooking 06:57 – She took a job in the media world (Muscle and Fitness Magazine) so she could understand it 07:20 – This catapulted her career, she learned the media side and made demo reels with her friend that made it look like Devin was the host of a cooking video series called “A Slice of Devin” 08:31 – She went to NATPE (National Association of Television Program Executives) every year, learned the guest list, interned, and sought to meet the right people 09:14 – She sat in the lobby of Weller Grossman Productions because she knew that one of the principals was really nice 09:27 – She felt that she had a chance to convince him to put her on the show “Smart Solutions” on the Home & Gardens Network and it worked 09:40 – This was her first ever national TV spot (her first TV appearance) 09:54 – She went to NATPE every year; Devin and Karen Kripalani found a Craigs List ad looking for people that didn’t go to their high school prom for a TV pilot for Bravo 10:30 – She went in for an interview, she knew the company did shows on Food Network 11:00 – Her dad was in the hospital at the time, she was working at Muscle and Fitness Magazine, and she got a callback asking her to be on the show and attend a prom in Glendale 11:13 – They offered to send her to her high school’s prom, realized she could cook well, and were able to get her a pilot offer on Food Network 11:35 – After that (and some “stalk-y” things she did on her own) she was getting TV bookings; after her first book was done, her book got publicity she met the producers of Biggest Loser 12:15 – She turned down a pilot offer on Food Network but it wasn’t the right fit; she was attached to 13 different shows before she got her first show on Discovery Health and Fit TV 13:00 – She stalked the Food Network’s production companies and continued being persistent until someone making the decisions changed their mind 13:25 – How does someone transform their mindset out of a negative state? 13:39 – Devin has a sister who had always loved to work out 14:10 – It wasn’t until she was at a Biggest Loser resort, she was getting paid to be there, and she was taken on a 2.5 hour hike, that she realized that she loved it 14:20 – Devin wished she could always get paid to work out; she doesn’t like the time it takes to work out 14:55 – She used to think working out was a waste of time; the only thing she could think of was when she was going to be done 15:10 – Now Devin plays tennis with a group and they also have parties together; she realized that she was being hypocritical by telling people to pursue their dreams while not pursuing her own to become a mom and find a guy 16:10 – She’s in the process of fostering a baby; her heart is attached to foster children and she might have a baby this year 17:00 – She has a few big projects coming up; she had a good run and was on top of the healthy movement for a long time 17:10 – She had restaurants on Royal Caribbean Cruise Line thinking it would make her long-term income, but it wasn’t as easy as she thought 17:44 – It took her out of the TV world and she was in a car accident that caused a TBI that took 1 year to fully rehabilitate 18:00 – She’s back and getting involved with a start-up, a TV deal is pending, and a couple other things are in the works 18:18 – She feels like she’s back and going in the right direction; she just got back from an event in Loretto, Mexico at a spa “Celebrity Chef Pastry Week” 18:36 – She decided that she is going to pursue love; she wants to be “in love” with every aspect of her life and this has inspired her entrepreneurial journey, confidence, and journey to have a child 19:15 – Many people have reached out to support and love her in the journey to have her child 19:57 – Many doctors and dieticians are in a hurry to give blanket diet instructions; those statements like “never eat red meat,” or “get enough sleep and cut out stress,” aren’t so simple 22:22 – She takes the calorie-counting out of her diet and recognizes the things she loves and what needs to be eaten in moderation (meat and fried foods) 23:10 – She usually doesn’t eat so many vegetables when she eats out because they are sopped in oil; she’d rather skip those and eat a little chocolate and plain tomatoes in her room later 23:40 – When she travels she gets a room with a fridge and gets her healthy snacks at a grocery store 24:27 – She knows herself; if she’s tired she craves food, so if she has to pick between sleep and working out, she’d rather sleep 24:45 – There’s no amount of working out to combat the amount of food she’d eat when she’s exhausted trying to get energy 25:05 – These are the things she knows about her body that she helps clients learn about themselves to find success 25:16 – Tips for entrepreneurs: Operate with passion 25:56 – She knows that she has a message and knows that she can help people and this excites her and keeps her going; she truly wants women to feel good 26:10 – Dave Kerpen, author of “The Art of People” and Mark Moses have really affected her with their EO talks 26:50 – She learned that anytime someone asks you how you are you should be fantastic 27:11 – The next time she was in Trader Joe’s, she was totally in her head and remembered to say she was “fantastic” 27:50 – The bagger and checker were surprised and asked her why so she told them about the seminar and realized that she is, in fact, doing fantastically 28:55 – We all have the same struggles and challenges as entrepreneurs, but at the end of the day, it is pretty fantastic 29:16 – Get centered on what is good for you in your life, diet, and business  Key Points: Be persistent when pursuing your goals; don’t stop until you get a “yes” and don’t quit because of other’s negativity. Operate with passion; this will keep your work exciting, impactful, and mission-driven. Be centered, balanced, and fantastic...because you truly are.   Resources Mentioned: Entrepreneur's Organization – The EO Network “The Art of People” – book by Dave Kerpen Devin’s Official Website Devin’s Books

New Podcast with Director/Actor/Writer Richie Keen! In this episode of "Kahnversations," we interview Richie Keen. Richie is a WGA award winning writer and director whose work is diversified across the comedy landscape. Richie directed the feature film FIST FIGHT (New Line/Warner Bros), starring Ice Cube, Charlie Day and Tracy Morgan, which will be released February 17th. Richie is also one of the resident directors on IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA, having directed multiple episodes. Other recent directing credits include the TV Land pilot for TEACHERS (now going into it’s second season), SHAMELESS for Showtime, multiple episodes of the Billy Crystal half hour show THE COMEDIANS for FX, and multiple episodes of the new Netflix comedy DISJOINTED, from Chuck Lorre, starring Kathy Bates as the owner of a marijuana dispensary. Richie also directed an award winning ESPN 30 FOR 30 short on “Tommy John surgery," entitled TOMMY AND FRANK, as well as numerous other network and cable series. After a very successful career as an actor and stand up comedian, starring in dozens of sitcoms and national commercials, Richie became one of Hollywood’s top acting coaches under Lesly Kahn & Co. Working with the famous, infamous and soon to be famous, Richie quickly became the go-to guy for comedy, which taught him to be a true actor’s director. Richie won the Writer’s Guild award for “Outstanding Achievement in Writing Original New Media” for AIM HIGH, a show about a high school aged hit-man, which was produced by Warner Premiere and McG. He also executive produced, co-wrote and co-created the show, which was the first Facebook series from a Hollywood studio. In addition, Richie was awarded the “Digital Luminary Award” at the NATPE convention for AIM HIGH. Richie has also written pilots for CBS, Fox and NBC, collaborating with producers such as Greg Daniels and The Tannenbaums. Currently, Richie is attached to direct the feature PARTNERS, starring Mark Wahlberg, for New Line Cinema. You can download or subscribe to the podcast for FREE by clicking below. If you like “Kahnversations,” please leave a rating or review on our iTunes page! There are so many inspiring podcasts with fabulous stars out there. But their careers feel light years away from ours, don’t they? Wouldn’t it be great to hear from the guy who just booked his first pilot? Or the kid finally doing a studio pic after a bunch of low budget indies? Or the woman who’s been a series regular a few times but is only now becoming a name? What about the guy who’s been on a show for years and you know his face but what’shisnameagain? Or that actress who is now a freakin’ showrunner???? How’d THEY do it, right? How did they transition from relative obscurity, bartending and bottle service, to buying that house in Brentwood? We’re producing “Kahnversations,” a podcast that provides access to THOSE people -- your immediate predecessors -- so that you can learn from them while their battle scars are still fresh. In “Kahnversations,” our own Ryan Bailey interviews some of Lesly Kahn & Company’s working actors, directors, and writers in order to learn how they got started in Hollywood, the challenges and hurdles they faced, and how they overcame the odds. (They also dish out some crazy stories!) Listen in and enjoy as these entertainers speak candidly about their paths, processes, and experiences. You might even hear a bit about how Lesly and the Kahnstitute have influenced and shaped their careers.
