Award winning vocalist Emma Pask, has firmly established herself as one of Australia's favourite voices in Jazz. Her effortless, honest stage presence combined with her powerful vocal ability, leaves audiences spellbound and inspired whenever she takes to the stage. While Emma's voice and style are unique, and individually her own, her performances are reminiscent of the classic era of jazz, when swing was top of the charts. Her talent was first spotted by internationally renowned Jazz great James Morrison, when she was just 16 years old. She joined his band as the lead vocalist and went on to spend a solid 20 years touring the world with Morrison. On request Emma performed the Bridal Waltz for Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban at their wedding. More recently she played support to Legendary Guitarist/Vocalist George Benson when he toured Australia. Emma opened for Grammy Award winning American vocalist Kurt Elling, on his 2018 Australian Tour. Emma is a “Mo' award winner for Jazz Vocalist of the year, and has received two ARIA award nominations for Best Jazz Album of the Year in 2014 and 2016. Emma has had the honour to sing for VIP audiences including the late Diana Princess of Wales and Princess Mary of Denmark. She has sung in London at The Queen Elizabeth Hall with the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Sydney Opera House with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Emma has performed in China with The Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Auckland with the NZ Philharmonic, and with the WA Symphony Orchestra in Perth. In 2019 the Emma Pask Band headlined at the Havana Jazz Festival in Cuba. Emma has toured her band throughout Europe, Asia and Australia. She has received rave reviews for her performances in Uruguay, South America, and is a regular at the prestigious Ascona Jazz Festival in Switzerland. Despite her achievements and the international recognition of her talent, Emma retains her natural, refreshing and unpretentious, positive approach to life. Jazz virtuoso James Morrison says of Emma, “Whilst it's fashionable to be a jazz singer these days, she is the real thing!” In 2020 amidst the Covid 19 lockdown, Emma was chosen by The Sydney Opera House to launch the first of their concerts live streamed from the stage of the hallowed Joan Sutherland Theatre. This performance won the offical Time Out (in) award for favourite Arts livestream. In 2021 The Emma Pask Big Band brought Sydney's music scene back to life after lockdown, as they featured with a sold out performance at Sunset Piazza. The STAGES podcast is available to access and subscribe from Spotify and Apple podcasts. Paweł Bobołowicz i Artur Żak poruszyli temat decyzji polskiego rządu o czasowym ograniczeniu eksportu do/i przez terytorium Polski produktów rolnych z Ukrainy. In this episode Josh Pask, Managing Director of Pask's Removals, discusses how he got involved in the industry only 2 years ago during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. Josh is a professional football player and after a transfer from West Ham United to Coventry City he suffered ligament damage to one of his ankles at the start of the football season. Once back to playing midway through the season the pandemic hit, and realising the career of a professional footballer is so short Josh set about thinking of ideas of way to provide long term financial sustainability for his family. Josh kept remembering how a local man and van service made good money from his move from London to Coventry, and so the idea of being in Removals was born. Pask's Removals opened for business in November 2020, and are a London based company providing domestic and commercial moves, a full packing service, storage (containerised through a third party), and they have also provided a couple of European moves. Pask's Removals run 4 vehicles (loloaders) and have a team of 7 guys that carry out the moves and a team of 3 ladies that provide the packing service. Josh's biggest challenge was ignorance and therefore learning something new, but he is grateful for the advice given by fellow movers (some of whom have been previous podcast guests!). Another challenge is running the business from Coventry when it operates from London, but systematising processes through the use of IT has helped massively. Josh wouldn't change anything from his moving past, he is very happy with where Pask's Removals are currently, however, he is constantly changing, evolving, and refining everything as he goes. Josh has two highpoints of being within the industry, the first being the two overseas moves (for two fellow professional footballers), and more importantly, the second providing jobs for people. Josh believes there are many things that need improving within the industry but the one thing he would like to change is the perception and education of moving as a whole, something Josh is trying to do using the company's social media platforms. The advice Josh would give himself just starting out in the industry again is encouragement (no fear, no anxiety, no worry), learning from every mistake made along the way. In the next 5 years Josh has no idea where he will be, 5 years ago he never thought he would be in the moving industry in the first place. Industry wise, new technology especially in the form of AI (artificial intelligence) have and will continue to make significant roles in the moving industry. Outside of the industry Josh doesn't really switch off, he is still currently playing professional football (for The New Saints F.C. in the Cymru Premier), he is part of a football and faith charity, he enjoys golf in the summer months, but he does make a conscious effort to find time for loved ones (family and friends). And as always we end Moving Matters with a funny moving story regarding a mix-up in delivery addresses. Enjoy! Today we're chatting with the Men's Fashion Director for Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus, Bruce Pask. Bruce has had an amazing trajectory in menswear over the last 30 years, especially for someone who grew up in Southern Arizona. Today's conversation on collecting is a little different than something I have done in the past. As a Fashion Director of two of the biggest names in the industry, Bruce's role is really curating collections for well, all of us. Curating for multiple brands has become a fairly easy task for him as he's always got his eyes on the next thing, but what really goes into curating collections and how it relates to collecting as a whole is what I wanted to know. Collecting as a hobby can come in many different forms, and Bruce is the perfect example of that. And without realizing it, he also collects one very specific item of clothing which has become a staple in his everyday wardrobe. It's safe to say that we could all learn something from Bruce. But for now, please enjoy Bruce Pask, for Collectors Gene Radio.B.
The Art of... | Talk [08.03.2022] What if machines and works of art would engage us in conversations? »The Art of...« invites you into the world of one of the most brilliant figures of cybernetics in the 20th century - Gordon Pask (1928-1996), the creator of learning machines and cybernetic artworks. Gordon Pask (1928, Derby–1996, London) fascinated his contemporaries not only by his appearance – an Edwardian dandy in a bow tie and cape – but also by his pioneering experiments in the field of adaptive teaching machines. As early as the 1950s, he proved that it was possible to build teaching machines that could adapt to the abilities of human learners. What makes his work unique within cybernetics, however, is its close connection to the arts. Pask was not only a cartoonist, painter, and poet, but also founded a theater company in the early 1950s for which he wrote his own plays and songs. Thus, theaters and music halls became the experimental laboratory for Pask's first cybernetic machines. Among his best-known projects and works are »Musicolour« (1953-1957), the 'moody' light organ, and the »Colloquy of Mobiles« (1968), which he developed for the legendary exhibition »Cybernetic Serendipity« at the ICA London. Often overlooked when considering Pask is the influence of his cybernetic thinking– his »Conversation Theory« – on 20th-century architecture: Pask collaborated on the conception of the »Fun Palace« (1964), the visionary project of architect Cedric Price and theater activist Joan Littlewod, and taught for many years at the Architectural Association in London. It is also too little known that he served as a consultant to Nicholas Negroponte's Architecture Machine Group at MIT, informing its ideas about the relationship between artificial intelligence and design. Titled »The Art of Living in Conversation«, Paul Pangaro, President of the American Society for Cybernetics, and historian of science Andrew Pickering, in conversation with Margit Rosen, explore how Pask's machines and his »Conversation Theory« might change the way we think about living with machines. »The Art of Living in Conversation« belongs to the online conversation series dedicated to artists and theorists related to the ZKM collection and archives.

This week's guest is Bruce Pask (@BrucePask), the Men's Fashion Director of Bergdorf Goodman & Neiman Marcus. Bruce also curates a shop called the B. Shop, which features some of his favourite menswear essentials and some exclusive collaborations. I discovered Bruce during the hashtag menswear movement where I often saw street-style photographs of this stylish gentleman wearing classic American menswear on the streets of Milan, Paris, Florence, and New York. I quickly learned that Bruce wasn't just a stylish bystander but a prominent voice in the men's style community contributing to the likes of GQ, the late great Cargo magazine, and the New York Times. So how did this guy from Yuma, Arizona go from a shy retail stockboy to the Men's Fashion Director at one of the biggest luxury department stores in the world? Bruce talks about his journey through the industry, What menswear items he's excited about, and some simple style advice we could all use.
Dažkārt atklājumi vēsturē notiek ilgu gadu garumā, citkārt tos uziet pavisam nejauši. Tā tas noticis arī Latvijā, pētot Latvijas teritorijā uzietu poēmu, kurā pirmo reizi aprakstīts Freizera sindroms jeb reta anomālija. Medicīnas vēsturniece Ieva Lībiete atklājusi, ka iedzimtā anomālija Freizera sindroms novērots jau krietni agrāk nekā 19. gadsimta otrajā pusē. Pirmais to aprakstījis 16. gadsimtā Rīgā dzīvojošais humānists un dzejnieks Daniels Hermanis (1543 - 1601).

(Originally aired in August 2020) Emma Pask has firmly established herself as one of Australia's favourite voices in jazz, and has toured with her band across the country as well as throughout Europe and Asia. For many years she has worked alongside James Morrison, who says of Emma, "whilst it's fashionable to be a jazz singer these days, she is the real thing." As Emma prepared to perform to live audiences again following the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions, she spent an hour sharing the music that inspires her, and the story of her life and career to date.

Hi everyone and welcome to the Smell Podcast, I'm your host, Katie Boateng. This week, join me in listening to an episode with Dr. Greg Pask, an insect neurobiologist. His bio on the Middlebury College website states that he is “interested in understanding the powerful sense of smell insects use to locate food, find mates, and communicate with others.” Greg is a professor there and the college is located in Vermont. We had a great conversation about how insects use their sense of smell to navigate the world, his work as a professor, and much more. To connect with Greg on Twitter, click here. Emma Pask. Award winning vocalist Emma Pask has firmly established herself as one of Australia's favourite voices in Jazz. Her effortless honest stage presence combined with her powerful vocal ability, leaves audiences spellbound and inspired whenever she takes to the stage. While Emma's voice and style are unique, and individually her own, her performances are reminiscent of the classic era of jazz, when swing was top of the charts. Her talent was first spotted by internationally renowned jazz great James Morrison, when she was just 16 years old. She joined his band as the lead vocalist at 16, and went on the spent a solid 20 years touring the world with Morrison. In 2013, Emma was asked to try out for season 2 of The Voice, then promised by Ricky Martin to sing on his album. That didn't happen. She secured a recording contract with Universal, that didn't quiet go to plan so after an amicable split with the record company, Emma was again an independent artist. Also add to all the that, there's solo records, tours all around the world, and always high praise for her band and musicians she works with. And did you know that Emma was also the voice of Dorothy the Dinosaur? We talk about all that stuff. I also asked her about vocal technique vocal scatting which is part of Emma's sound. We were supposed to meet up in person for this podcast, but COVID 19 hit so we connected via video. Please excuse the sound quality in some places. As the great jazz virtuoso James Morrison says of Emma, “Whilst it's fashionable to be a jazz singer these days, she is the real thing!” Recorded 05/04/2020. Greg told us SO many cool ant stories during his session!
On this weeks episode, F3 speaks to Coventry City right back Josh Pask on his career, dealing with set back and disappointment and his faith in Jesus Christ.
Jian DeLeon and Noah Thomas start off this week’s very special Dropcast episode from their respective home offices. The hosts are joined by Philip Post, the founder of Dertbag, and Bruce Pask, the Men's Fashion Director at Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus, who give advice and feedback to upcoming designers. Make sure to stick to the end as we announce the winner of our “New Shoe, Who Dis?” giveaway. Philip and Bruce perform a quick Vibe Check by sharing their work from home situations before moving into the quick hits, Covid-19 edition. With luxury houses including Balenciaga and Saint Laurent producing surgical masks in their French workshops in order to fulfill escalating demands, the cast speaks on the industry’s cooperative attitude and how situations such as this serve as important reminders of fashion’s sense of community (4:30). Up-and-coming designers definitely came through by sharing their brands on the Dropcast hotline for this episode’s Question of the Week (QOTW), and the pitchathon sees the top three featured in no particular order (15:37). First up is Tombogo with a mission to construct character through the design process. Tombogo’s designer sees the brand as a reflection of himself as well as the world, an experiential learning outlet for him to think outside the box. Jian’s drawn to Tombogo’s originality and clear identity, which Philip believes will allow the brand to explore new grounds whether it be streetwear or potential collaborations with unconventional partners such as NASA. Up next is Crescente Patricio, an upcycled denim brand based in Dallas, Texas (21:43). By adopting the approach of an indie rapper, Crescente Patricio’s designer began making “clothing mixtapes” to get his name out. His designs are centered around this concept, with each “mixtape” and piece having their own titles and stories, resulting in narrative-driven clothing. The cast is all for Crescente Patricio’s strong silhouettes, contrasting details, and overall presentation. Bruce makes a note on the importance of sustainability, which is reflected in both brands so far, leading to agreement that sustainability is sure to become an intrinsic component of design. Flyson is a brand fusing elegance with sporty elements with an overall focus on providing complete looks rather than individual pieces to convey its idea of a modern uniform (28:08). The brand draws inspiration from both the tangible and intangible, including extreme sportswear, aerospace suiting, and architectural references to popular culture. Noah and Jian are impressed with Flyson’s debut pieces, which Bruce believes are diverse yet cohesive. Flyson’s uniform concept is one of its strong suits, quite literally, as the cast comments on the importance of establishing a clear identity and fashion universe for consumers to dive into. A Dropcast episode isn’t complete without a segment of “What’d You Cop?” (44:30). Philip’s practical cops include protection for his kicks, and they double as inspiration for his next collection when the world is up in flames. Bruce picked up an Officine Generale chore jacket from his plug in preparation for the spring and summer, and Jian was gifted this episode’s “Mule of the Week,” the Neighborhood UGGs, a pair of cozy shearling-lined slippers perfect for the quarantine life. On that note, Jian announces the winner of our “New Shoe, Who Dis?” giveaway, which asked readers of HIGHStyle, Highsnobiety’s new magazine, to guess the sole of what’s been revealed to be a pair of Balenciaga sneakers (47:07). It has been 160 years since Charles Darwin first published ‘On the Origin of Species,' detailing the amazing ability of living things to evolve through natural selection. Today, human activities and Earth's rapidly changing climate require that species adapt and evolve at an unprecedented rate in order to survive a great ecological disruption. What genetic tools are available to enable species to evolve? Which species are most at risk? How can we avoid a collapse in biodiversity, and what can humans do to help? Join us to celebrate the anniversary of Darwin's accomplishment for this very special participatory event, held in the 160-year old facilities of the Royal Society of Victoria, combining live music performance and discussion on the convergence of science and music, and the potential for species to evolve and adapt in a time of changing climate. This one-off event showcases the important research conducted by Melbourne scientists, along with cutting edge musicians and new music of artists drawing their inspiration and musical vocabulary from climate science. Comprising a quintet of some of Australia's leading musicians in an idiom-bending mix of live jazz, improvisation and contemporary classical, the Gene Tree Project sonically explore climate change science, and ‘re-tell' the story of the peppered moth. The original music draws upon aspects of evolutionary biology and species adaptation in response to changes in climate, and to themes of adaptation, extinction and resilience. Gene Tree Project Gene Tree Project quintet are Elissa Goodrich (composer / vibraphone), Adam Simmons (saxophones / shakuhachi / bass clarinet), Gideon Brazil (saxophones / flute), Elliott Folvig (electric guitar) and Tamara Murphy (double bass). These critically acclaimed Melbourne-based musicians perform, compose and tour both within Australia and internationally in various contemporary jazz, experimental and ensembles and multi-artform projects. Speakers: Andrew Pask Professor Andrew Pask is a geneticist in the School of BioSciences at the University of Melbourne. His research focuses on Evolution, Development and Reproduction, using marsupial, mouse and human models. Andrew's lab recently sequenced the genome of the extinct thylacine and is using this data to understand more about the biology of this unique marsupial predator. The Pask lab is also developing methods to examine the possibility of de-extinction for this species as well as tools to help preserve and conserve current threatened and endangered marsupial species. Amy Coetsee Dr Amy Coetsee is a Threatened Species Biologist at Zoos Victoria, where she works on the Eastern Barred Bandicoot. Focussing on habitat requirements, threat mitigation and island releases, Amy's work has contributed to this marsupial being well on its way to recovery. Amy is passionate about conservation, actively engaging communities to care for threatened species and fight their extinction, and to inspire students to uphold Zoos Victoria's commitment that no Victorian terrestrial vertebrate species will go extinct. Elissa Goodrich Ms Elissa Goodrich is a musician (percussionist), sound artist & composer. She records & performs in contemporary classical, jazz & pop groups and also works in independent theatre & dance. A Victorian College of the Arts graduate and University of Melbourne Masters postgraduate, Elissa's sound-art works have played numerous Australian and international festivals. In 2016 Elissa founded the Gene Tree Project researching and composing new music in collaboration with evolutionary biologist Dr Anna Syme and Nadja Kostich (dramaturg), and is currently composing a large-scale work ‘Gene Tree: Listen.Now.Again.' in partnership with St Martin's Youth Performing Arts Centre and with a composer's commission from APRA AMCOS Art Music Fund 2018. The remarkable Thylacine (or 'TASMANIAN TIGER') was a carnivorous marsupial that existed in Australia and Tasmania up until 1936. DNA exists that could allow us to clone one - but should we?MARK from Evolution Soup catches up with PROFESSOR ANDREW PASK from his home in Melbourne, Australia to talk about Thylacine history, biology, and how he was able to successfully sequence its genome.Andrew Pask is the Professor of BioSciences the University of Melbourne. If you've been with us since the start, you may remember our second-ever episode, in which we sat in Emma's house and discussed coaching and mentoring. We were inspired by a talk by a colleague from another university, Jordan Allers, to chew over the different ways we can help novice teachers (as well as more experienced colleagues) to improve their practice. Well, now we can return to the discussion because the wonderful Jordan Allers has jumped ship and joined us here at Cardiff Met! We managed to track him down and bring him to the microphone to put some substance on the original discussion, and to give us some pointers about how we in the teaching profession can raise our mentoring game! Tackling the regular slots, Jordan reveals himself as a lover of organisation, as well as providing us with some reading material and something to try that relates to today's topic. We hope you enjoy what Jordan has to say. We'll be back in a fortnight, when we'll be discussing the role of educational research with Professor David James of Cardiff University. Even after the introduction of free agency, AFL player movement is still a club-dominated business. That's the inside of view of leading player agent Marty Pask who in this episode of In the Game also calls for the scrapping of free agency compensation and expresses concern about the general media's handling of sensitive player issues. Also, he goes behind the scenes on how a trade is done, and discusses his worry for some players as they transition out of the game.
Off-Field - Sports Stars and Experts Share Sports Marketing, Business, Leadership Insights
The role of the sports talent agent is widely misunderstood. A lot of people will think of Jerry Maguire, or flashy dealmakers driving big money club and brand contracts. Or, to the frustration of our guest, troublemakers who fuel the headlines and movement in the player market.Marty Pask, owner of i50 Management, gives us a fascinating insight into what the world of an athlete agent is really like. And for Marty, who works predominantly with AFL talent including Essendon captain Dyson Heppell, it starts with empathy. As a former AFL footballer who only played a few games at the highest level, he understands the rollercoaster from draft day through to being cut, and everything in between. Marty says it is about joining his athletes on the journey, which starts from that first cup of tea with an 18 year old athlete and his parents. The role of the sports talent agent has changed drastically in the last five years or so. The ruthless nature of social media and a fast paced news cycle is a talent agent’s nightmare. And while social media can make or break a brand in a moment, it has also turned the commercial market on its head. Marty says it wasn’t long ago when it was all about TV exposure and getting as many eyeballs on the talent and brand as possible - now it is about influencer marketing and the athlete’s engaging social channels. We also talk about the key elements of the sports talent market and where it is heading, identifying talent and building player brands, the circus of the AFL trade period and much more. From fly-fishing around the world to the divide between bowhunters and long-range hunters, we dig into the attitudes, ethics and biases that make this industry so damned interesting. We do go especially long but it’s for good reason as we cover some very interesting topics. Settle in and enjoy Tim’s stories, thoughts and an attitude that we should all hope to emulate over the course of our lives. Instagram: @timpask

I've been wanting to do this interview for a while, but Andrew kept pushing me off - he thought that too much of the stuff that he does is just related to us working together. Alas, I had to point out that he works with a class of instruments that I've never touched, he lived 40 years before we even met, and he has a completely unique view of how electronics is used on-stage. So he ended up saying "OK"! Since we've known each other for a long time, the conversation is relaxed, filled with laughter - but also filled with interesting new information. We discuss the role of electronics on stage, how computers change the performance game, and how you approach practice when you are working with massively augmented instrumentation. Super fascinating, and something I'm hoping you'll enjoy. Andrew has put up some audio of his work. Check it out at this link. And enjoy!

Tasmania’s marsupial tiger, the Thylacine, appears to be extinct. But today MonsterTalk interviews Dr. Pask about his experiments, the best chances of resurrecting dead species, and what makes the Thylacine so interesting to evolutionary science.
