We all like to have goals, but is that goal taking up too much space in your brain? Today, we look at Future Tripping and ways to release anxiety from our daily journey. One of the major goals of training should simply be, not being distracted by things that don't matter right now. How do we get there on a daily basis? How do we get from not wanting to workout to putting on the shoes? There's so much power in falling in love with the day to day and minute to minute. Wanting to be perfect or on the podium is a lot of unnecessary weight on our shoulders right now. We are much better off doing the work that is right in front of us and staying on track. Every aspect and every area of your life will benefit if you view yourself as a leader, and if you apply the principles of leading others to leading yourself. Leadership needs no title You don't need an official title to lead. If you are at the bottom of the rung, you can still set the tone, and take on responsibility. Leadership is influence The very nature of leadership is not that it demands obedience, but that it conveys influence upon others. Very few people obey a title. But many will follow the example of someone who is a positive influence on them, and who strives to help them improve. Leadership is service Leadership is about service. Big picture, they talk about their goals in selecting graduate students to work on their labs, and whether they've gotten good at the process. They also examine typical application requirements - including recommendation letters, personal statements, GPAs, and (sometimes) the GRE - and consider which they'd keep, and which they'd prefer to never deal with again.

A LONG TIME AGO, IN THE 2005 MOVIE ADAPTATION OF PRIDE AND PREJUDICE: You've got no sons to inherit your estate, only five daughters, so what the hell are you going to do to ensure your family's housing and security? Why, you send Jane, the oldest and prettiest to catch a cold in the rain so rich Mr Bingley will fall in love with her! You let your boring cousin take his pick of the flock, Lizzy; but when she's not into it, he goes off and marries her best friend so your plan is again RUINED! You don't take any of the rest of your daughters seriously, till the youngest one SCANDALOUSLY runs off with Mr Wickham. Luckily there's a Mr Darcy around to fix the situation with money and marriage, because is there a problem that money and marriage can't fix? In the end, neither pride nor prejudice can get in the way of Bennet sisters marrying for love plus, conveniently, carriage-loads of money. Join Jenny Owen Youngs, Helen Zaltzman and Vanessa Zoltan to investigate the 2005 movie adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, and investigate such mysteries as whether this could be recut as a horror film, why is everyone so mean to Mary, whether rainstorms are sexy or just soggy, and why the hell are these wigs allowed. This week, Your Favorite Stylist Holly Katz talks hats - and how to style all types for summer. Get the new episode now! Let's keep it real: It is the worst time of year to add something extra to wear as temperatures are at an all-time high. However, a hat is a really fun way to add an extra zhuzh to any outfit. Even if you feel like you might spontaneously combust at any moment. #fire Here's a nice truth bomb for you: Nothing is more in style than keeping the sun off your face, and nothing ages you more than alcohol and the sun. We know. We hate it too. But dammit, if you're going to be drinking in the sun, then do it under an umbrella and wear a fabulous hat. That's all we are asking. It's not a lot to ask! When to wear a hat, what kind of hat, what do you do with your hair, when NOT to wear a hat! The hat game can be a confusing one. So, let's start at the beginning: “Remember, the hat is the star. So don't upstage it with some crazy ass complicated outfit. – Holly Katz, personal stylist. Holly's Top Hats for Summer (no fashion crimes here): The Fedora The Trilby The Baseball Cap The Wide Brim The Bucket (Style Tip: go to Holly's Pinterest board to see all these hats and styling ideas!) FEDORA: The classic Fedora is Holly's favorite for summer. It can be made of straw for keeping you cool, and you can dress them up with a grosgrain ribbon or leather hatband around the crown – and even add a brightly-colored feather or sparkly hat pin! She recommends wearing your Fedora by the pool or at the beach with a flowy, sheer kimono over your swimsuit or even over a tank top and shorts. Top it all off with statement earrings, chunky jewelry and a high wedge sandal – PERFECTION! TRILBY: The Trilby hat, which looks like a Fedora, has the same crown, but a very narrow brim. The crown is the shape of a teardrop, if that helps. To be more specific, it's the hat Jason Mraz and Bruno Mars wear, and they are both Holly's boyfriends. #truth #duh Since the Trilby is like the Fedora, Holly recommends styling it in a similar way. One chic idea is to wear the Trilby with a crop top (not too short!), a long maxi skirt and a heeled-mule. BASEBALL CAP: We know what you are thinking: a baseball cap MUST be a Fashion Crime! For sure! But actually, it's not, in this instance. This is a hat that can be dressed up or down. It never goes out of style. When you wear it the right way it looks super chic and fashion forward. We've seen it styled in so many different ways - from a dress - and we mean a nice dress, like a cocktail dress - and sneakers, to a bright-colored suit and a chunky dad sneaker. Baseball caps can be plain, they can have cute sayings or fun logos on them, and even Trucker hats are back. If you don't dress like a slob, you can pull this off! WIDE BRIM HAT: If you go to the beach, you've seen wide-brimmed hat (which are PERFECT to protect you from the sun. Or, if you've attended the Kentucky Derby or Derby parties, those large, decorated hats are wide brim hats. There are many variations, but mainly they can be floppy or structured. Holly prefers a structured brim. You want it to keep its shape when you are wearing it. The floppy one is more casual, and best for the beach or the pool. For styling, she recommends pairing a hat like this with a crisp white cotton buttoned down for a really cute play on menswear with a high-waisted colorful maxi skirt, and a crossbody bag which we think is a great travel outfit, or a day outfit, and you can even wear this into the night. BUCKET HAT: The Bucket Hat was super popular when ‘some of us' (ahem) were in high school in the 90s. It's back again and worn by men and women alike. It has been seen all over the runway and beyond for the past few seasons. We are seeing it every turn! It's been shown by Prada and Gucci. And some of the more high-end streetwear brands like Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton. This is probably Holly's least favorite style of hat (#sorrynotsorry), but she will agree that it looks great with the right outfit on the right person! She recommends pairing with denim frayed shorts, a fitted top with a blazer or a jeweled cardigan, maybe a high-top sneaker…. something to make it a little bit more street! Julian Tregoning has worked in the asset management business for many years, having had senior roles in the Flemings Group (where he also covered Latin America) and at BNY Mellon. He has held multiple Director and Chair roles and is a member of the investment committee for SAUL, a multi-employer defined benefit scheme for the non-academic employees of the University of London, which is where we met.Our conversation goes back to some common ground Julian and I share - schooling in Ireland. His dates from the 1950s, when he attended boarding school near Kells, Co Meath. He then took a gap year in France where a passion for wine was born, and joined the navy, fulfilling a love of boats and exotic travel. Julian's career in the navy came to a shattering end following a skiing accident, and in a theme that we have seen again and again in this podcast series, from that crisis came opportunity - it was while recuperating from that injury that he read about the world of investing. There began a fascinating career which saw him move from the era of top hats (and little diversity) in the City of London to a global career which saw him visit a wide sweep of Latin American countries as well as much of Asia. He saw the most fierce of bear markets as well as the most stunning recoveries. When asked what advice he has used to guide him through this journey Julian refers to the adage of the KISS principle - Keep it Simple Stupid. We talk about that as well as the current wave of ESG investing in order to round out this chronicle of a truly unique career journey. This series was made possible by the kind support of MainStreet Partners, a London-based independent and dedicated sustainable investment advisor that provides ESG multi-asset and multi-manager portfolios and a range of holistic portfolio analytics tools including sustainability ratings and bespoke sustainability intelligence. It was also supported by Carbonado Partners, an industry expert in capital raising for all asset classes, that endeavors to provide thoughtful solutions that address emerging managers' perspectives and challenges.

Happy new year, welcome to the first episode of the year; we hope everyone is safe and enjoying themselves. This week we are bringing you stories about the new horizon project with pictures of MU69 or as it has been dubbed, the Ultimate Thule. This could be the perfect piece of real estate for those wanting to avoid those door to door sales people. We discuss the distances to it, the distance the New Horizons travels near the Ultimate Thule, the fact it travels in what is low earth orbit, also the lunar distance just for a laugh.Next up is a discussion about the new season of Stranger Things, and we don’t mean the crazy movie named Mad Max Fury Road either. Which Buck says was an ok movie but not a ‘Mad Max’ movie by any stretch of the imagination. We have a laugh of at the poster and the atomic wedgie of one of the kids, ah the eighties and bad fashion, thank goodness it is over. Also once again it appears that Hollywood is copying Australia instead of creating origional IP. It appears that ‘Stranger Things’ is copying the movie and series ‘Puberty Blues’ folks; that’s right you heard it here first. Then we talk about tattoos and gaming with the recent lawsuit regarding LeBron James and his appearance in various video games. We then wonder about who owns the artwork on your body. Also the levels of insanity, with people selling advertising on themselves by getting tattoos for organisations such as Golden Palace. Some of these people are all kinds of crazy with where they get these tattoos. Once again, happy new year and keep listening as we approach our first birthday in a few weeks.EPISODE NOTES:New Horizons space program- https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2018/12/nasa-spacecraft-readies-new-years-rendezvous-primordial-object-far-beyond-plutoStranger Things Season 3- https://au.ign.com/articles/2019/01/01/stranger-things-season-3-release-date-premiere-netflixTattoos and Game development- https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/27/style/tattoos-video-games.htmlGames currently playingBuck– Red Dead Redemption 2 - https://www.rockstargames.com/reddeadredemption2/Professor– Bandersnatch - https://www.netflix.com/title/80988062DJ– Injustice 2 - https://www.injustice.com/Other topics discussedFirst picture of Ultima Thule- https://imgur.com/wmY1LXdMore news about the New Horizons program- https://spacenews.com/new-horizons-ready-for-ultima-thule-flyby/How far is the Moon?- https://spaceplace.nasa.gov/moon-distance/en/Deep Space Network- https://eyes.nasa.gov/dsn/dsn.htmlMoons of Jupiter- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moons_of_JupiterSpace events that occurred in January- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/January_3- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/January_4Mars Polar Lander- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mars_Polar_LanderHappy Feet 2 movie- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Happy_Feet_TwoMad Max the movie franchise- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mad_Max_(franchise)Stranger Things Season 3 poster- https://oyster.ignimgs.com/wordpress/stg.ign.com/2018/12/pasted-image-0.pngThe Runaways- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Runaways_(TV_series)Puberty Blues- 2012 TV Series - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puberty_Blues_(TV_series)- Novel - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puberty_Blues_(novel)- 1981 movie - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puberty_BluesCensored tattoo from Madrid Art Tattoo- https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQFTD3f0_gJSUkNb2Me3ea89WA1VQAvpJc7BCAgylmHW5Av-vTgawHangover 2 Mike Tyson tattoo lawsuit- https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr-esq/warner-bros-settles-hangover-ii-203377Woman gets Golden Palace tattoo- https://www.casino.org/blog/did-womens-forehead-casino-tattoo-gamble-pay-off/Cat Stevens’ multiple lawsuits on various songs- https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20090504/1649054744.shtmlMen at Work Kookaburra riff lawsuit- https://www.abc.net.au/news/2010-02-04/men-at-work-plundered-kookaburra-riff-court/321624Controversial Red Dead Redemption 2 feature- https://www.sportskeeda.com/esports/red-dead-redemption-2-news-the-controversial-game-economy-of-red-dead-online-explainedCourt stops GTA cheating programs- https://www.kotaku.com.au/2018/08/court-blocks-maker-of-gta-online-cheating-programs-from-selling-them/Local airsoft field runs live action PUBG games- https://www.reddit.com/r/PUBATTLEGROUNDS/comments/7av8l1/my_local_airsoft_field_runs_pubg_games_regularly/Battle Royale - 2000 Japanese movie- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_Royale_(film)Donald Trump’s hair meme- https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/donald-trumps-hair/photosTrapped in a Video Game trope- https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/discussion.php?id=5uwcwznf9eze3y1ffsasdrnaHoover Dam- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoover_DamPacific Rim 2013 movie connections- https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1663662/movieconnectionsShoutoutsDec 30 2018 – Don Lusk passed away - https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/don-lusk-dead-pinocchio-fantasia-charlie-brown-animator-was-105-11720271 Jan 1992 – Grace Hopper passed away - https://www.onthisday.com/people/grace-hopper1 Jan 1994 - Cesar Romero passed away - https://www.onthisday.com/people/cesar-romero2 Jan 2018 – “Mean” Gene Okerlund passed away - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gene_OkerlundGeneral Queeries Podcast- https://www.thatsnotcanonproductions.com/generalqueeriespodcast/Famous Birthdays1 Jan 1895 - J Edgar Hoover, American law enforcement administrator and the first Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the United States - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._Edgar_Hoover1 Jan 1912 - Kim Philby, British intelligence spy who worked as a double agent before defecting to the Soviet Union in 1963. The team returns with another traditional episode this fortnight. James, Steven and Daniel all return to discuss the latest news and announcements, including the (finally) release of Retro City Rampage, the announcement of Cult County and all that juicy information that Nintendo finally let loose about Mario Kart 8.The team also covers more localised, Australia centric news - including the recently announced Electabuzz/Magmar Pokemon event, the Pink 2DS and it's Australian release date, as well as recent additions to Club Nintendo and the confirmation of the Pokemon VGC returning for another year. There's some bad news in there too, for good measure. The team does a bit of housekeeping and covers some games we previously missed, including the controversial Senran Kagura Burst and the fashionably late Retro City Rampage. Of course, James gets some sizeable discussion about Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney too.So that's it for another fortnight! Don't forget that our next proper in-depth critique episode is going to debut in the next fortnight, and we've got the competition winner to be announced in that episode too. Moss by Beck Siàn Unfurling Beck's mother is Welsh, and her father was born in England, but is from an Irish family. With Welsh and Irish blood, it seems only natural that Beck was going to be drawn to all things Celtic – everything from the Celtic artwork and mythology, Druidic reverence for nature and trees, tales of banshees, wraiths and faeries, to the musical instruments and haunting singing-styles. There is definitely a strong Celtic thread in Beck Siàn’s music – even when singing Australian songs and modern compositions. Related to English singer Kate Bush, it was her influence and artistic inspiration (as well as having a talented artist for a father) that sparked Beck's own desire to dance, sing and create. So we're incredibly proud to be able to bring you this astounding example of her music, with Moss! Be transported along with us into strange and fey realms.... You can find out more about Beck Siàn and where to get hold of her fantastic music on her Contributor Page or on her website. Dragons & Unicorns Interview Dragons & Unicorns, Photo by Lunaesque We stopped for a chat with A.J. and Steve from Dragons & Unicorns. They say: "Dragons & Unicorns is a made to order costumers based in the UK. Set up in 2006 by myself, "A J" Machin and my daughter Natalie, the company was created after we met Richard Taylor & Tania Rodger, co-owners of Weta Workshop, at the Fellowship Festival in 2005. Richard and Tania were very impressed when they saw Steve dressed in King Théoden's war armour which we had built and said that we were "incredibly talented people". This was all the inspiration we needed to create and re-create costumes for like-minded people, at affordable prices. " The rest.. as they say.. is history! You can find out more about these amazing costumiers on their website. Andrasta by Jonathan Kershaw Bizarre Tales "'Too medieval to be folk; too folk to be rock; too rock to be medieval...!' Jonathan is a guitarist/songwriter originally from Yorkshire in northern England but now based on the south coast. Although known in various areas for his rock playing, he has quietly been applying his talents to an altogether different sound. In his early 20s, Jonathan relocated for a number of years to Somerset in the Southwest of the UK. This was quite a rural area and provided his first insight into folk and Celtic style music. Andrasta (Andraste) was the Romano-Celtic goddess of war. Her name means the "Invincible One". Andrasta was a patron goddess of the Iceni tribe. It was said that Boudicca, the British warrior queen prayed to Andrasta, before going into battle the against her Roman foes. It is believed that the goddess received human sacrifices. [source] Queen Boudicca by John Opie Acoustic Goth A quick mention that both Jonathan Kershaw and Beck Siàn are touring together with a collection of their music with a Beautiful Ghosts and Bizarre Tales tour! He has us spellbound with his intricate music built up using his specialist, self-designed guitar (with a wiring loom to make Mercedes-Benz proud!) and multiple loop-machines to add vocal layering. He built up songs that were almost operatic in scope (along with a unique version of Shine On, You Crazy Diamond which can be found on YouTube!). We were also lucky enough to see him perform a soulful duet of 'Vincent' with Beck Siàn! Ash's studio and Live work are focused differently. The stage show is about entertainment. The studio work is about making art. The live show incorporates hats, stories, comedy, loop machines, a double necked guitar and theatrical engagement with the audience. All soundscapes are built live without the use of backing tracks. Choice of genre is wide ranging and eclectic. The show brings together covers and originals in sets which are carefully crafted to move through changes in energy and emotional states, leaving the audience on a high. It was a dark and stormy night when she walked in, some Italian girl with all sorts of grapes in her eyes... So begins our first wine review. Other podcasts just review wine. We review wine with panache. Our first victim? Villa Artimino, Carmignano Vigna Grumarello, DOCG Tuscan blend. But rather than just review the wine, we incorporate the review into a Film Noir style drama, complete with bad music and crappy acting. You're welcome posterity...you're welcome. Ben gave this wine 7 out of 10 Top Hats, I gave it 5, for a grand total of 6 Top Hats on the Wine For Sophisticated Homies Review Scale. Check it out and tell us if you agree.......Ya lousy animals'.
