In episode 635, Prerna Malik teaches us how to create a welcome sequence to share content from our blog as well as sell digital products, like courses and ebooks, without being salesy or icky. Co-founder of Content Bistro and a Copyhackers-certified, conversion copywriter, Prerna is the sales strategist and copywriter behind multiple million-dollar launches and 6-figure evergreen sales funnels in niches as diverse as astrology and homesteading! She has written for iconic brands such as Pat Flynn, Amy Porterfield, Copyhackers, Vanessa Lau, Handle the Heat, School of Traditional Skills, and 1000s of others! She is also the creator of the strategy-focused sales copywriting program — Ready-to-Sell. Prerna and her co-founder-slash-husband, Mayank have built an intentionally profitable business while living in India and raising their daughter, Manini. In this episode, you'll learn about how to sell in a way that you would want to be sold to, Prerna's 6C framework for an effective welcome sequence, and why you should not use generic email templates. Key points discussed include: Avoid using generic, plug-and-play templates for your welcome sequence: Your welcome sequence should be personalized and reflective of your brand and connection with your audience. A welcome sequence is not just one email: It should be a series of emails that guide your new subscribers through getting to know you and your offerings. Connection-based welcome sequences work best for food bloggers: Lead with building a personal connection before asking for a sale. Sell in a way you'd want to be sold to: Avoid tactics that make you or your audience feel icky, like fake promises or guilt-tripping. Use the "6C" framework: Celebrate the sign-up, Connect with your audience, Cultivate community, Convert with a sales pitch, Connect again with social proof, and Close by preparing them for your regular emails. Space out your welcome emails: Send them one day apart to improve deliverability and engagement. Include a story, specific details, and your expertise ("3S") in each email: This makes the content more engaging and valuable. Vary your offers in the email signature/footer: This allows you to show relevant products to different segments of your audience. Pay close attention to your subject lines and preview text: These are crucial for getting your emails opened. Remember that "selling is serving": Your products and offerings are valuable, so don't be afraid to promote them to your audience. Connect with Prerna Malik Website | Instagram

One of the things I love most about our community is how we always keep it real about the highs and lows of entrepreneurship… and Vanessa Lau embodies this spirit in such a profound way. Vanessa Lau is a creator and entrepreneur on a mission to inspire business owners and creators to lead more authentic and fulfilling lives. In this episode, Vanessa and I are chatting about the common traps in business and how these led to her dissolving her business for a year and how to follow your intuition if you find yourself in need of a break. She also shares key lessons she learned about her health, relationships, and most importantly herself when she stripped her business away from her identity, and the changes she's made in her business this time around to avoid making the same mistakes that led to her burnout!
Today, I'm coming to you not from my usual studio setup but rather from the driver's seat of my car. This freestyle episode is all about embracing what I like to call "sacred simplicity" in both our personal and professional lives.06:41 A Busy weekend led to a much-needed rest.09:11 Appreciate health because it can be fleeting.11:52 Woman shares emotional video, regrets, seeks comfort.15:21 Working for a year, not just privilege.18:40 Experiences shape us and make us strive for self-actualization.21:27 Regret over past, compassion for self, insignificance.24:04 Prioritizing joy, learning, and mastering paid traffic.27:10 Uncertainty about shift, preference for simplicity explained.32:50 Tangible benefit motivates discussion of white labeling.33:43 Offer writing, content, SEO services, validate organically.39:07 Discussing lead gen and content strategies for ads.40:42 Optimize traffic ads, capture leads, and test.43:45 Focusing on quality work and living with ease.A Time of Transition and ReflectionI'm currently in a season of significant change, counting down the months until my move to Costa Rica. As part of this transition, I've been tackling the task of decluttering and sorting through years of accumulated belongings at my dad's house, now up for sale. This process has been both physically demanding and emotionally revealing. It's amazing what we hold onto over the years, isn't it?During a weekend dedicated to clearing out my storage unit, I realized that some boxes hadn't been opened since my move from Boise in March of 2021. Items were still labeled "go through before Costa Rica," a reminder of postponed decisions. Yet, this clean-up wasn't just about sorting through physical objects but also about reassessing what's essential in my life. This is where the concept of sacred simplicity really comes to life—finding clarity and joy in the essentials, shedding the excess that no longer serves us.The Refreshing Break from Digital ClutterThe physical labor of sorting and moving boxes provided a much-needed break from the digital clutter of my daily life. There's something profoundly liberating about stepping away from screens and focusing on physical tasks. It allows for a mental reset, which is increasingly rare in our hyper-connected world. This disconnect from digital work brought a surprising freshness to my thoughts. It reminded me of the importance of balance and taking time to enjoy simple pleasures—like the perfect weather we had, a crisp 76 degrees of pure sunshine. It was a reminder of the beauty of living in the moment and appreciating the small, simple joys that life offers.Learning from Vanessa Lau: A Lesson in Sacred SimplicityDuring this time, I watched a video by Vanessa Lau, an influential content creator who recently returned from a sabbatical. Vanessa chose to step back at the height of her career to prioritize her well-being—a decision that resonates deeply with the concept of sacred simplicity. It's about making life choices that honor our deepest needs and values rather than constantly pushing for more.Vanessa's courage to choose herself over perpetual business growth is a powerful testament to the strength found in simplicity. It's a reminder that sometimes, the best thing we can do for ourselves and our businesses is to take a step back, reflect, and recalibrate.Sacred Simplicity in MarketingIn the realm of digital marketing, sacred simplicity can transform how we approach content and engagement. It's about stripping back the unnecessary and focusing on what truly matters—connecting with our audience in authentic and meaningful ways. For instance, my philosophy of "Everything is Content" is an embodiment of this simplicity. It's about seeing the...

While working a corporate job, she realized the potential income content creators could earn, prompting her to dive into the world of content creation. At the start, her YouTube channel didn't take off as expected, and she had to work a part-time job for five months. She experimented with various topics like social media, productivity, and budgeting, but it was a random video about Instagram that unexpectedly gained traction.Capitalizing on this success, Vanessa launched an Instagram course and earned $200,000 in a year. She refined her focus to Instagram courses for coaches searching for clients and built an automated sales funnel, scaling her income to $200,000 per month.Vanessa and Ryan discuss how some platforms are excellent for generating traffic, while others generate more sales. In Vanessa's case, her revenue primarily comes from Instagram posts where she drives sales, while YouTube serves as a platform for search-driven content. Different channels have varying key performance indicators (KPIs), and creators must adapt to their audience's reactions. She also praises TikTok for its effectiveness in searching for content due to its extensive results and excellent SEO. Vanessa advises newcomers to start with YouTube or Instagram, depending on their goals.Engaging with comments and encouraging audience interaction is crucial for building a community. The Global Phenomenon Podcast | for Online Coaches, Consultants and Solopreneurs
Vanessa Lau shut down her business. One of the biggest names in the coaching industry just switched her multi-million dollar business OFF last week, much to the shock of everyone. I've admired her since I came on the scene 5 years ago, and I wish her well in her sabbatical… but I am left with my own feelings about what her shut down may mean for me and my fears. Am I alone in this? If she had to shut down to deal with the pressure, what does that mean for YOU? Let's unpack that today. And on this episode our focus will be on what does Vanessa Lau's news mean for YOUR business? There is so much expectation on business owners and founders to build their businesses a certain way. I'll bet you know what I'm talking about - the set of criteria the internet tells you to check off in order to achieve success. This topic is huge for me, and today's episode was inspired by a multi seven figure business owner who is winding back and taking a permanent sabbatical.Vanessa Lau is an online business owner who achieved one hundred thousand YouTube subscribers and a six figure business within a year. She was ticking all the boxes and from the outside, it looked like she had everything - the greatest speaking engagements, digital products and huge success on social media. However, Vanessa found herself on a hamster wheel that she knew would never get off. Although she had achieved so many goals, she found herself losing her quality of life and her mental wellbeing. So recently, Vanessa announced she was retiring her signature program to step back and reassess her life.I love the courage and vulnerability that Vanessa showed in admitting her truth, and it provokes the questions that we as business owners should be asking ourselves too.Am I actually enjoying the work I do? Have I structured my business with as much ease and simplicity as possible? Am I squeezing time with my loved ones around the limited time left over from my business? If you're regularly overworking and finding that your business is constantly causing you anxiety, I encourage you to ask these questions and get really honest with yourself. Reflect on what you can do to stay in alignment with your life goals while cutting out the noise of external pressures. You are the expert on you, and I encourage you to get really clear on what you are looking to achieve. I hope this episode challenges you to stay on course and build a life and business you truly love. Vanessa Lau, multi-million dollar online coach and super successful YouTuber, just announced that she is going on an indefinite sabbatical. Talk about a mic drop moment. She specifically specializes in helping coaches and online personalities to start building education platforms and turning those followers into clients. We actually go into a lot of deep topics about hacks you can use on Instagram right now! We discuss what it was like for her starting out as a barista making minimum wage on the graveyard shifts, to figuring out her YouTube game, to eventually quitting and making $10K per month, which eventually turned into $200K per month! Audacious Mamas - Inspiration and Strategies for Mompreneurs
Avoid Burnout - learn from these Entrepreneurs and tap into intuitive guidance for your business Entrepreneurship can be a lonely and stressful journey. It's important to avoid burnout by learning from those who've been on the path just ahead of you. Tap into your intuition and let it guide you to success. I noticed some of the entrepreneurial women I adore and look up to were sharing some of the same challenges. All followed the same patterns and hit a point of burnout. While none of these women are mamas yet, they have inspiring success stories and a willingness to be vulnerable and share openly. There's so much to learn from them! Sadly, this came with a loss of identity, being subsumed into their businesses and following the leaders and coaches with a blueprint to follow—and by being hyper-focused by stats, followers, and views. They had no time to reflect on what makes them happy and what motivated them to create their businesses. They had the sense that success was solely about building millions and their lives were missing the personal aspects of fulfillment and joy in life that aren't related to income. They all shared similar ways of recovering. A lot of what they shared that helped had to do with being "true to themselves," listening to their inner voice, intuition, and what their bodies were telling them. Basically being guided by internal cues vs. focusing solely on external forces and voices. This episode is all about my observations following Sunny Lenarduzzi, Vanessa Lau, and Cathrin Manning. Each has their own story, and if you're not familiar, all have YouTube channels, so I'm linking some key burnout and lessons learned videos they shared. Check out Sunny Lenarduzzi's story Check out Vanessa Lau's story Check out Cathrin Manning's story If you're interested in slowing down and listening to your intuition, check out this episode about surrendering to your feminine. Do you have a burnout and recovery story? I'd love to hear what helped you get through it and what you do now to avoid burnout. Shoot me a message! Thanks for listening, subscribing, and leaving a review!! xo Sending Lots of Love and success to you!

Should you offer lifetime access for your online courses? Online courses usually sit in one of two camps. Either you offer lifetime access to your courses or you offer limited access. Vanessa Lau, a really talented online business owner, recently did a video on why she no longer offers lifetime access and why she switched to a limited access model. Since I 100% believe in the lifetime access model for all of my courses, I wanted to dive in with a response. In this episode you'll learn: Vanessa's reasons for a limited access model, my comments on the limited access model and why I stand by the lifetime access model and why I believe it's the best decision for your business as well. Hope you enjoy!

Here's what we covered on the episode: How Prerna Got Started in the Online World + Copywriting () How I've known who Prerna was for 3+ years and how I really got to know her work through The Copywriter Club and how we met in person last year Prerna sent me a pdf of all her services, which is brilliant so I asked her to come on the podcast to get into the nitty gritty of that because it's such an underrated thing people can be doing to make it easier for people to hire them How connecting with others in your industry is important and you should be intentional about it The story of how Prerna got started online as a mom blogger, from there her and her husband decided to go into business together, they started with business blogging and social media management—at that point copywriting was not in the picture About 6 years ago clients started asking if they would write sales pages for them, or since they had done all their blogs they asked them to write their emails, so Prerna said yes but she needed to learn how Prerna tells us how she started learning from the Copyhackers with Joanna Wiebe, read all the books, and took The Copywriter Mastermind, that had a certification attached to it, which was hard to earn but very worth it she says Building Relationships Through Social Media () How Prerna loves copywriting because she can see the direct impact it has and because there are so many opportunities within copywriting The reason Prerna loves social media is because she feels like it's her own social circle even though she doesn't live in the same country as most of the markets she's working in—she loves making relationships through social media When Prerna gets on Facebook, she pictures herself walking into a cafe where everyone knows your name and takes the time to have a conversation with you Prerna says her husbands approach to social media is very business based, which is okay and says if that's your style; do social media in a way that works for you—don't try to fit yourself into a mold that's not you If you are on social media for your business, Prerna says it's important for you to show up consistently, show up authentically, be transparent, and not be afraid to voice your opinion, which she admits took her a while to get used to Content Bistro's Unique Process for Bettering Customer Experience () They have a menu of services for their business, Content Bistro, and Prerna shares that they have a whole copywriting team that works on the copy and marketing but says they have a food angle as well with all their services The idea behind their menu of services pdf and branding of their business was to add another layer when filtering for prospects—by sending prospects a menu of their services it makes it easier for both sides to tell if they will be a good fit Prerna shares that their pdf of services includes their packages, their process, client testimonials, mini case studies, etc How Content Bistro serves two different audiences, those who need copywriting and service providers and how they created separate pdfs for each audience so each only gets the information they need If you're a designer, Prerna recommends creating a pdf of services because it helps you streamline your process and makes for a better client experience Prerna compares her service pdf to a website sales page, but more concise because it tells the prospect what the package is, who it's for, what you get, why you need it, an estimated timeline, testimonials, pricing and more When Prerna and her husband were brainstorming ideas for their business name, they wanted to blend their love for food and their passion for writing, which is how they landed on Content Bistro and now all their services have a food connection Prerna shares that coming up with names for their services is one of her favorite things to do, and says she has a document with different categories of foodie themed words and marketing words to help her come up with the names Prerna says that it's important for service providers set themselves apart and says you can do this by making your processes easy for you to show up, serve and by making it easy for people to work for you Connect with Prerna on Instagram or on their website Links mentioned: Content Bistro Website Ready to Sell Copyhacker Website Copywriting Services for Course Creators Connect with Prerna on Instagram Like what you heard? Every so often, the stars align, and an entrepreneur becomes successful right out of the gates. Such is the case with my latest podcast guest, Vanessa Lau. Vanessa is an online business coach for millennials. She had the high-paying corporate job, and once she found out about online business, she started to feel trapped in her cubicle. She stumbled on my webinar, and the potential of YouTube blew her mind, so she decided to invest in herself. Nine months ago, Vanessa purchased YouTube for Bosses, my signature course, with zero subscribers. Now, she's quickly approaching 70K subscribers. She's grown an engaged community on social, and she just launched her first online course. Her total sales literally almost made me fall out of my chair. We do the big reveal in the podcast of how much she sold and how many clients she enrolled, and it will astound you. And if you're thinking ‘yeah, but I don't think I can do that', I want to stop you right there. Part of the beauty with Vanessa is that she takes very good notes. She documented her entire process, and she's sharing everything with you today. This is not a pipe dream. This is a real woman from Vancouver B.C., who has just gotten started, and already has surpassed her goals by a mile. I'm so excited for you to listen to this podcast, celebrate Vanessa's success with us, and then take the tips she gives (SO MANY TIPS) and use them for yourself.
