The London Underground is one of the oldest metro systems in the world, opening in 1863. When the Central Line Railway opened in 1900, it was called the Twopenny Tube, referencing the price of a ticket. The nickname has stuck ever since!A Transport for London spokesperson has since stated that the actions in the video in question was dangerous to both passengers and the cleaners involved. They said: "Our cleaning schedule for Tube trains consists of two different levels of cleaning: pre-service cleans (daily), and a deep clean of the interior and exterior of the train around every 28 days.“All floors and surfaces are cleaned daily on every train as part of the pre-service clean. Seats are inspected and cleaned as required during this pre-service clean, with further cleaning as part of the deep clean.”There's an average of 1,864 colonies of bacteria on a single cinema seat. Comparing this to the average toilet seat, which they found around 135 colonies on average.“Obviously she mentions, the cleanliness of the seats will vary across different cinemas, seat styles and fabrics. Some of the dirtiest cinema seat they tested had around 3,000 colonies of bacteria living on it,” they continued. On the other hand, they said the cleanest cinema seat had just 80 colonies of bacteria, which is around 55 times less than the average toilet seat.

Disciplined, Dedicated and a Rationalist. Evren Ozka has long had a strategic eye for business, starting his professional career in textiles and manufacturing. At age 18, he ran his division at his family's textile companies for seven years before beginning Mallet London in partnership with Tommy Mallet. They realized a gap in the market - quality-designed shoes at an achievable price point, and the brand evolved from there. Evren is now Founder and Business Director of Mallet London and spends his time between London and Dubai. Mallet London has played a central role in blurring the lines between sportswear and luxury. Since its launch in 2015, there have been many significant milestones for Evren, all relative to the size and age of the journey. Standout moments for him include the brand's first wholesale order, which was from an independent luxury store, followed by getting stocked in Selfridges and Harrods, then Saks Fifth Avenue in New York and their most recent collaboration with Transport for London (TfL). Evren Ozka finds no better feeling than seeing people out and about wearing Mallet London. Since expanding to the Middle East, he has noticed an appetite for European brands in the region, especially those in the premium and luxury markets. With the ever-growing fashion scene where consumers take pride in their style, he believes that Mallet London's unique designs will resonate with the people of the Middle East.

After a week that included the attempted assassination of former President Trump and the breaking news that President Biden will no longer be standing in November's US election, we discuss how political polarisation so rapidly fosters an environment in which cancel culture thrives. Of particular note is the manner in which many on the right are now calling for the cancellation of people making off colour remarks about the attempt on President Trump's life, a troubling phenomenon that Brendan O'Neill writes about this week in the Spectator. Closer to home, and in the wake of last year's debanking of Nigel Farage, we discuss the findings from a review by the Financial Conduct Authority (‘FCA') on whether parliamentarians, senior public servants and their families are treated fairly by financial institutions. As the Guardian reports, the FCA is telling financial firms to ensure their definition of a PEP (politically exposed person), family member, or close associate is “tightened to the minimum required by law” and not to go beyond that. In light of the FCA's advice, the FSU will be writing to Tulip Siddiq, the Economic Secretary to the Treasury and City Minister, to remind her that the amendments to the Payment Services Regulations that we campaigned for enjoyed cross-party support and the present Government should now get on and make them. The fight against politicised Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (‘EDI') training in the workplace looks set to continue as the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, launches a four-year scheme to ‘embed an inclusive culture' and reduce ‘microaggressions' at Transport for London (TfL) – something that is expected to ratchet up a bill close to £2.5m. As the Telegraph highlights, unconscious bias training was scrapped at central government level four years ago after an official review found the courses did not change behaviour or improve workplace equality. Like the Lernaean Hydra, it seems that no sooner do we chop one head off the EDI monster than two more grow back. ‘That's Debatable!'  is edited by Jason Clift.

In this episode of Better Cities by Design, Katherine Drayson, Senior Environment Manager at Transport for London (TfL), is our guest. We speak with Katherine about the vital role TfL plays in managing much of London's sprawling public transportation system and how climate change is impacting all of this.London has the world's oldest underground rail system, and this is only one part of TfL's portfolio, which also includes the Docklands Light Railway and the London Overground, along with buses and other modes of transit. But with the negative impacts of climate change on the rise, TfL has a dual role in helping London achieve the ambitious targets set out in the Mayor's Transport Strategy. First, TfL is working to make its operations more resilient against the warmer, wetter winters, and hotter, drier summers London is experiencing. Second, TfL is also focused on ensuring that Londoners have safe, reliable, convenient, and comfortable transit options that will help more and more residents choose public transportation over the use of a personal vehicle, thus reducing emissions in the city.Join Host Davion Ford and Katherine as they discuss the role that cities and transportation play in contributing to and potentially solving the climate crisis. Katherine also talks about both the history of public transportation in London, as well as what the future may hold.

Contemporary artist Barby Asante moves through the London Transport Museum to Stratford Station, coming together with Black women TfL staff to take public space in a collective choral performance, a Declaration of Independence (2023). In 2023, Transport for London (TfL)'s Art on the Underground invited Barby Asante to present a new iteration of her Declaration of Independence, a participation-based work which draws on West African communing traditions. In collaboration with TfL employees, the ensemble vocalise the contemporary experiences of people of colour, and reactivate oft-static historical documents. Barby talks about her time in the photography archives at the London Transport Museum, finding images of women of colour at work in different roles, including those employed by London Transport's direct recruitment in Barbados and the Caribbean in 1956. She details the role of public art, in widening access, and encouraging connections between personal, postcolonial, and migration histories. Plus, Barby shares the many Declarations - many of which are neither written, nor codified - which have influenced her practice, and how the testimonies and collective work has changed on its travels between Berlin, Germany, and Bergen, Norway. Great leaders foster great innovation. Rikesh Shah is driving innovation at Transport for London (TfL), and Larnzell Harper helps level up transit leaders. Learn about both sides of the equation in two dynamic interviews. People think innovation is all about new shiny things, but it's really about finding new ways to solve problems. Rikesh Shah, Head of Open Innovation at TfL dives into some of the innovations he's led--and some of them have less to do with moving people than understanding everything about the environment of moving them. We continue with our leadership series with Larnzell Harper, Manager of Training and Development at VIA Metropolitan Transit helping people level up as leaders with pragmatic advice on decision-making and creating a toolbox of leadership tools you can leverage across jobs and situations. Innovation and leadership are so closely aligned. Building a culture of innovation requires leaders who are okay with false starts and mistakes. Leaders who look at how everyone else has done it and ask, "Can we do this better? Is this really working?" Larnzell and Rikesh typify leaders who make it safe to ask questions, try new things, and push us--and our agencies--to be better. In this week's pod, we welcomed Ines Lopes to discuss The Spiritual Project Manager. Ines fell in love with Project Management at University. So much so that after her Engineering degree she completed an MSc in Strategic Project Management. She spent 9 years working at Transport for London leading complex high-profile highways and sustainability projects such as the Ultra Low Emission Zone to improve air quality in London and the programme to help Transport for London (TfL) become zero carbon by 2030. During that time she also went through an awakening of sorts, embarking on a spiritual holistic journey to be able to heal her body. As a result, she felt in the middle of two worlds. On one side a structured work-life is guided by analysis and organisational skills. On the other side, an intuitive personal life looks into the energy behind everything to continue with her personal growth. In 2020 she left TfL to focus on her spiritual journey. But turns out you can't take the project manager out of her! She felt the pull to join a couple of initiatives as a project manager and decided to do things her way. She combined the two worlds she had been living in. Focusing on deadlines and outputs but also helping the teams involved to let go of limiting beliefs and anything else that was not serving them. And this is how Spiritual Project Management was born. The main topics we discussed on the podcast were as follows:· Spiritual Project Management is the concept that a project can deliver growth for a business as well as personal growth for its contributors The concept does not focus on religion, just personal growth within the project space It aims to create a “safe space” for people to be themselves within a project environment The covid pandemic has helped to dispel the myth of presenteeism “I never knew how strong I was until I had to forgive someone who wasn't sorry” Focus on what you have and how you will get what you want. Create lists and schedules to identify how you will achieve your goals Turn chaos to order! Welcome to the Elevator World News Podcast. Today's podcast news podcast is sponsored by elevatorbooks.com: www.elevatorbooks.com FEAR OF COVID LEADS TO ESCALATOR FALLS IN LONDON Officials with the London Underground report that passengers are falling down Tube station escalators because fear of catching COVID-19 is making them reluctant to hold onto the handrail, Evening Standard reports. London Underground chiefs say a spike in accidents is also being blamed on intoxicated passengers celebrating the end of lockdown. Twelve deaths or serious injuries have been reported on the Tube between April and June, and 23 on buses — an increase compared to the same three-month period last year. Transport for London (TfL) plans to expand a trial, launched last year, that attaches ultraviolet (UV) light devices to handrails to eradicate the COVID-19 virus. A TfL spokesman said 93 escalators had been fitted with UV virus-busting units by September, and a further 340 were due to be installed by the end of 2021. In this week's pod we welcomed Lorraine Humphrey to talk about Project Assurance and Risk Management. Lorraine is the interim Director of Risk and Assurance at Transport for London (TFL), a post she has held since April 2021. Lorraine moved to Project Assurance in 2018 after 12 years of project delivery as a Senior Project Manager. Lorraine recently completed her MBA and has also been shortlisted for Inspirational Women of the Year in the Women in Rail awards for her mentoring work and support of autism initiatives at TfL. The main topics we discussed on the podcast were as follows: Assurance is ultimately about keeping honest Assurance teams will point out where things are not right and provide recommendations to senior management based on evidence PMO should be a critical friend to Project Teams Assurance team often sits under General Counsel / Company Secretary in an organisation structure. This promotes the independence of the team It is important to understand the political environment of the area you are working and not get dragged into it There is no ideal experience required to be successful in Project Assurance. The majority will have experience in project delivery, however, leadership is the most important skillset Transport for London reduced the number of assurance reviews in order to allow more time to analyse the findings and provide continuous improvements 10% contingency at the start of a project is often a red flag from an assurance perspective Avoid watermelon reporting! Where Level 1 milestones are reporting as being on time without supporting Level 2 / 3 milestones Transparency and being evidence based is the key to effective project assurance. Leaders may not agree with the findings but it should be as open as possible The best way to avoid biases and groupthink is via evidence Seeing Project Teams who actively avoid scrutiny on Quantitative Schedule Risk Analysis is often a symptom that the underlying assumptions may not be strong EFC/EAC should be a dynamic figure. Static numbers may be due to hiding issues. Use assurance, don't fight it ----------------------------------------- --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/project-chatter-podcast/message

Doing amazing things for autonomous vehicles… In a trans-Atlantic lunch – with one guest in California and the other  in the UK – Leon Daniels meets with dRISK.  Chatting with CEO Chess Stetson in California and Business Development/Programme Manager Rav Babbra in the UK, they talk about their work with the government-owned Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (C-CAV). We hear how they have been tasked by the UK government, through the C-CAVS to build the ‘ultimate driving test' – not for human drivers, but to test self-driving cars. Their test will determine that autonomous vehicles (AVs) are not simply ‘as safe' as those driven by humans, but much safer than human drivers. We learn that the test is being used with current AV technologies, to establish how we can get to a ‘vision zero' (for accidents) in the UK. Leon asks why it is acceptable that 1,500 people a year in the UK are killed by human drivers, yet critics say that AVs must have zero accidents? He discusses why people are not as outranged by existing UK road deaths as they should be, given that 1,500 deaths a year wouldn't be acceptable in industry or commerce, for example. Chess opines that the UK's ‘zero vision' towards accidents is a “World-leading vision and a much more holistic approach to safety than many other places.” He explains how the driving test for AVs will be used by the DVLA/DVSA when an AV is to be certified for use in the UK. Like the UK driving test for humans, the AV version will present a range of scenarios to test the AV. We learn how, using Transport for London (TfL)'s 1,000 traffic CCTV cameras, dRISK has been capturing ‘edge cases' - high-risk incidents - and re-creating them in the simulation environment to see what the AV will do.  And, he poses the oft-asked questions: Will an AV stop for a child running out from behind an ice-cream van, or will it kill it? Other questions discussed include telling the difference between a real human and a dummy. Chess explains why an AV will be able to recognise that a child dressed in a costume as a green traffic light, is recognised as a child crossing the road, not a green traffic light, even though it's a situation the AV has never come across before. “AVs predict what's going to happen, not what has happened – and they can do that now already – for example, how to deal with the guy in the chicken suit at a level crossing,” he says. The wide-ranging conversation turns to the ‘naked highways'  - ones without physical traffic signs and traffic lights – as the AV ‘talks' with the infrastructure and receives instructions. The thorny subject of cyclists and their interaction with AVs is mulled over. Says Chess “Cyclists and human drivers never get on; AVs will be able to negotiate their way around them.” Then they look at how automation will develop. Will it be a progressive change, or an overnight switch from manually-driven cars to AVs? This leads onto to the increasing automation of existing new vehicles, with systems such as lane keeping and emergency braking already mandatory. The move to full automation in commercial vehciles is examined, and the reasons for hub-to-hub trunking with trucks being the most likely first-adopters. The wider applications for automation are explored, with its use to de-risk the entire transport network.  We discover that already dRISK's software is used to re-route human driven vehicles to reduce risk. What would be the positive effect on fleet managers if by rerouting, they could reduce their accident claims by 10% in a year? How artificial intelligence (AI) uses data to plan routes that are safest at certain times of day, is explained. Rav discusses how the integration of AI into transport is no pipe dream, and talks about how dRISK re-purposed its ‘object detection' software for Covid, to take feeds from TfL's roadside CCTV cameras. In this new guise, AI counted people and vehicles, to see the effects of lockdown and monitor social distancing. The results are fed back to councils which can establish if the measures it put in place, for example barriers for pavement widening or space for tables and cafes, are working or not. It can also identify hotspots, for example at pedestrian crossings, where reducing the wait time reduces pedestrian congestion. The conversation concludes with Rav talking about two surveys that are currently open about fleet managers' opinions on the risks of vehicle routing, and the public's opinion on AVs. Show #676   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Friday 24th January 2020. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story to save you time.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   VW CEO SAYS RACE IS ON WITH TESLA "Volkswagen Group CEO Herbert Diess is sending a message to Elon Musk: We are coming for Tesla." repotrs Automotive News Europe: "VW is buying software companies and ramping up investments in sustainable vehicles and battery cells, Diess said Friday at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Tesla's market value surpassed VW's for the first time this week, even as the U.S. company sells a fraction of the cars VW produces and has yet to record an annual profit.Diess last week called on his top managers to speed up overhaul efforts to make the company more agile or risk being pushed aside."   He said: ""It's an open race. The company which adopts fastest and is most innovative but also which has enough scale in the new world will make the race. 2020 for the auto industry will be a very difficult year, But we're doing the right things to be competitive."   https://europe.autonews.com/automakers/vw-ceo-says-race-tesla   THE UK NOW HAS 30,000 EV CHARGING CONNECTORS "The United Kingdom‘s electric vehicle charging network continues to grow. There are now more than 30,000 EV charging connectors located across the nation, according to a tweet from UK-based online vehicle charging point locator Zap-Map." says The Next Web: "As of today, there are now 30,140 connectors spread across 10,753 locations, listed on Zap-Map. Trends show the recent growth in the UK EV charging network, particularly over the past 3 years, is a result of fast, rapid, and ultra-rapid charge points being installed."           https://thenextweb.com/cars/2020/01/24/electric-vehicle-charging-connectors-uk-30000-zap-map-ev/   CHARGING NETWORKS FINANCE GROWTH AS EV SALES BOOM "Fastned, the charging company which is building a European network of fast charging stations for electric vehicles, has exceeded its fundraising target as it expands the number of sites it operates." reports Asset Finance Intl: "Around €12 million has been raised from 1,000 subscribers in a bond issue, four times the minimum of €3 million that Fastned wanted to raise. Fastned currently has around 114 stations operational in the Netherlands, Germany and the UK and wants to expand to the rest of Europe, with an initial focus on Belgium, Switzerland and France. It recently received approval for 13 motorway locations in Belgium, which are part of a collaboration with the Highway and Traffic Agency to provide motorway parking in Flanders with fast charging stations."   https://www.assetfinanceinternational.com/index.php/auto-finance/auto-emea/auto-emea-articles/19074-charging-networks-finance-growth-as-ev-sales-boom   MG ZS EV GARNERS 2,800 BOOKINGS IN 27 DAYS "MG (Morris Garages) Motor India garnered 2,800 bookings for the new ZS electric vehicle in 27 days during the first round of bookings. The carmaker claims that the number of bookings received for the ZS EV outpaced the total number of electric vehicles sold in India in 2019." reports IndiaToday.in: "The deliveries of MG ZS electric vehicle will start on January 27 across Delhi/NCR, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad."   https://www.indiatoday.in/auto/latest-auto-news/story/mg-zs-ev-garners-2800-bookings-in-27-days-check-out-all-the-details-here-1639514-2020-01-23   TESLA FINALLY DECLARES VICTORY OVER TERRIBLE LAW "According to the Associated Press, a deal has just been made between Tesla and the state of Michigan." says CarBuzz: "The agreement will allow Tesla to deliver vehicles in Michigan. There does appear to be a catch: Tesla buyers will have to have their vehicles titled in another state and then transferred to Michigan. Furthermore, the vehicles will be serviced and sold by a Tesla subsidiary. Tesla hasn't been completely absent from Michigan, home to America's Big Three automakers. In the Detroit suburb of Troy, there's a so-called "gallery" Tesla store at a local mall. Anyone can walk in and look around, but employees are forbidden from discussing pricing, leasing, or any other sales-related topics."   https://carbuzz.com/news/tesla-finally-declares-victory-over-terrible-law   AUDI SHOWCASES MOBILE EV CHARGING FACILITY AT WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM "Audi has provided the mobility and charging stations solutions at the World Economic Forum in Davos and 90 per cent of the shuttle fleet were electrified models, claims the company." reported by Economic Times: "The auto company used mobile charging containers made with used Audi e-tron batteries, specially developed for the purpose. It claims using roughly 100 electrified Audi models in combination with the shipping containers for charging allowed the company to operate a virtually CO2-neutral shuttle fleet for the Davos event. Audi claims that it has plans to use the mobile charging stations in 20 further cases in 2020 alone, with one being the Formula E in Rome."   https://auto.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/passenger-vehicle/cars/audi-showcases-mobile-ev-charging-facility-at-world-economic-forum/73581670   UBER LANDS ELECTRIC CAR DEAL WITH NISSAN "Uber will offer drivers in the U.K. electric cars from Nissan at a discount, the company said Friday, as it faces a potential ban in London."n according to CNBC: "The ride-hailing operator has signed an agreement with Nissan to introduce a fleet of 2,000 of the Japanese automaker's Leaf hatchbacks for drivers using its app in Britain. While the deal is technically open to all U.K. drivers, it's primarily targeted at those working in London. The deal with Nissan arrives at a difficult time for the company, which faces being blocked in the U.K.'s capital after Transport for London (TfL) stripped it of its license. Uber has since appealed the move, and can continue operating in the city while it fights the ban in the courts."   https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2020/01/23/uber-signs-electric-car-deal-with-nissan-in-uk-as-it-fights-london-ban.html   DAIMLER TO BUILD 50,000 MERCEDES EQC MODELS THIS YEAR "Daimler on Thursday said it plans to build 50,000 Mercedes EQC electric cars this year, denying a report in Manager Magazin which claimed it had been forced to pare back its 2020 production targets due to battery supply problems." says Reuters today: "Manager Magazin said Mercedes had slashed its production target to 30,000 from about 60,000 because of a shortage of battery cells from LG Chem. A Daimler spokesman said its production plans for 2020 had not been amended. Daimler’s works council chief Michael Brecht told Manager Magazin that one of the reasons the company is struggling to meet battery demand is because Tesla bought Grohmann Engineering, a battery automation specialist hired by Mercedes-Benz to build up its own battery manufacturing capacity. This caused problems for Daimler which was in the midst of ramping up production at its electric vehicle battery production unit Deutsche Accumotive."   https://www.reuters.com/article/us-daimler-electric-eqc/mercedes-halves-ev-production-target-due-to-battery-shortage-manager-magazin-idUSKBN1ZM1SA     NEW QUESTION OF THE WEEK The MYEV.com Question Of The Week…   With increasing attacks on EVs and vandalism caught on camera, why do some people have a problem with EVs?     I want to say a heartfelt thank you to the 230 patrons of this podcast whose generosity means I get to keep making this show, which aims to entertain and inform thousands of listeners every day about a brighter future. Who runs transit in your city? In many places, this is a complicated answer that involves a mix of different levels of government, transit agencies, and departments of transportation. In London, the answer is slightly more straight-forward. Leon Daniels is former Managing Director, Surface Transport at Transport for London (TfL). In this episode, Leon tells the story of what happened after the London government took responsibility for its transportation program in 2000 back from the central government. This maneuver resulted in many aspects of transportation such as taxicab regulation and bus service planning to be brought under one roof. Since that reorganization, Londoners have benefitted from increased frequency and improved service on public transit routes. In turn, TfL has also been rewarded with historic shares of transit mode share over the years. Finally, Leon shares some lessons from his experience at TfL as US transit agencies like New York’s MTA undergo their own reorganizations.“Cities are full of people who like to complain about they currently have, but don’t want the disruption about anything that they might have instead. And you just have to keep plugging away…and do what you think is right.” - Leon DanielsDisclaimer: Political views raised by guests on the podcast do not reflect the views of TransitCenter. You can read more about the trajectory of London and New York City transit for the past couple of decades here.Click here to learn more about the recent TransitCenter event that Leon spoke at.Music: “Comma” - Blue Dot SessionsHosted by Kapish SinglaProduced by TransitCenter

The concealments include black tapes on the body and other tapes on the headlights to hide details from eagle-eyed spy photographers. Of course, Porsche's comically installed fake exhausts are also present but the lack of exhaust sounds and the yellow round sticker on the rear windshield should be dead giveaways." says Motor1: “The long-roof version of the Taycan will more likely inherit the performance numbers of its sedan version, although performance will naturally be different because of their differing body size and weight."   https://www.motor1.com/news/378681/taycan-cross-turismo-spy-video/   EVGO INSTALLED 300 FAST CHARGING STATIONS IN CALIFORNIA "EVgo has expanded its fast-charging network in California by some 40% year-over-year to 300 locations, so more than 80% of Californians live within a 15-minute drive of one of the stations. This year, the company already installed more than 100 chargers and the plan for 2019 is to add over 200, usually more than one per site." according to InsideEVs: "Overall, EVgo has more than 750 locations in the U.S. with over 1,200 fast chargers, which means that California represents some 40% of the network. That's in line with EV sales, which is around half between California and the rest of the country. According to EVgo, the number of customers using the network exceeds 180,000, compared to some 800,000 all-electric car."   https://insideevs.com/news/378379/evgo-300-fast-charging-stations-california/   DYNAMO ELECTRIC BLACK CAB FOR LONDON UNVEILED Dynamo, UK-based vehicle manufacturer, has unveiled the first 100% electric, zero emission, ‘Hackney Carriage’ black cab for London that has been officially approved by Transport for London (TfL), the Dynamo Taxi. Dynamo Managing Director Brendan O’Toole unveiled the Dynamo Taxi, based on a Nissan e-NV200 Evalia MPV, at the International Clean Air Conference at London City Hall. The Dynamo Taxi is expected to accelerate the retirement of current diesel taxis from city streets across the UK, improving air quality. Taxis currently account for 16% of all vehicle nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions in central London, according to TfL figures. 80kW of power, 40kWh battery and 50kW DCFC."   TESLA RELEASES UPDATE WITH MORE POWER "some owners are starting to report already getting the new software update with a “power increase”. Tesla wrote in the release notes: “Your car’s power has been increased by approximately 5%, improving acceleration and performance." reports electrek: "That’s due to Tesla figuring out how to optimize motor control through software."   https://electrek.co/2019/10/26/tesla-update-power-automatic-navigation-more/   TESLA ROLLS OUT ‘SCHEDULED DEPARTURE’ "Tesla Model S, X, and Model 3 owners are getting their first look at a new “Scheduled Departure” feature as part of an over-the-air software update that enables a vehicle to complete a user-determined battery state of charge at a specified time." says Teslarati: "As its name implies, Tesla’s new “Scheduled Departure” feature, previously known as “Smart Preconditioning,” will prepare a Tesla’s battery state of charge for a specific time of departure each day. By enabling the ability to set a departure time by day of the week, Tesla owners can better control when a vehicle reaches charge completion, thereby timing it close to their actual departure time. An added benefit to being able to end charging at a specified time is cost savings."   Tesla themselves say:" “It’s now easier to have your car comfortable and ready to drive with Scheduled Departure. “We’re responsible for keeping London moving.” Transport for London (TfL) hauls six million passengers every day on their buses alone. That’s intense. And it makes Simon Reed’s job crucial to the mobility of Londoners. Reed, Head of Technology and Data, Surface Transport at TfL, does a deep dive into congestion charging – its history, how it works in London, and how it helps fund TfL. He gives Paul an update on their contactless card system and lets us in on how and why TfL has gone completely cashless. Like most places in the Western world, bus ridership is declining. Reed talks about the potential reasons for the decline, drawing correlations to new mobility options and how authorities aren’t matching the supply of resources against the demand from the people.   He also expresses his ideas on the death of single-function smartphone applications and offers alternative solutions to provide transportation information through the apps your riders already use. Finally, he questions public transit’s role of being the mobility aggregators, suggesting that open-sourced data and third parties might offer better solutions. If you want to know more about TfL, check out their website. Remember to check out transitunplugged.com to learn from top transit professionals and stay up to date to catch all the latest episodes.

Show #503   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Monday 17th June 2019. UK MODEL 3 DELIVERIES New Patreon PRODUCER IAN TURNER: "Great work - have been listening for the last 6-8months. I'm one of the lucky (dozen?) to pick up their model 3 Performance Plus from West Drayton this coming Thursday.   Since there will probably be 4,000-5,000 picking up their model3's over the next few months I decided to create a UK RHD Model 3 "Delivery Checklist" . This is based on the US equivalent so I'm not taking all of the glory here!"   NEW RENAULT ZOE   Highights of the new Zoe and your comments.   TESLA DISCONTINUES LONG RANGE REAR-WHEEL DRIVE MODEL 3 "One of the latest change in the constantly changing Tesla offer is reportedly the discontinuation of the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive version of the Model 3." says InsideEVs: "The Long-Range RWD was the first version of the Model 3, introduced in mid-2017. In recent months, Tesla removed the LR RWD and Standard Range RWD from the online design studio, offering the two only through direct call or a visit in the store. Now, it seems that LR RWD Model 3 will not be available anymore - at least temporarily - probably to simplify the production process."   https://insideevs.com/news/355122/tesla-discontinued-long-range-rwd-model-3/   VOLKSWAGEN WILL GUARANTEE THE CAPACITY OF THE ID. BATTERIES FOR EIGHT YEARS OR 160,000 KM Volkswagen will launch production of the ID.3 before the year is out. The compact-class model is the first member of the ID. family – a new generation of progressive electric vehicles whose lithium-ion batteries will allow for a range of up to 550 kilometres (342 miles), making the models perfect for comfortable long journeys.   The future owners of ID. models won’t need to worry about the durability of their batteries either, as Volkswagen will guarantee that the batteries will retain at least 70 per cent of their usable capacity even after eight years or 160,000 kilometres (100,000 miles).   VOLKSWAGEN CONFIRMS SALES OF E-GOLF IN CANADA IN 2020 "Relatively low availability of  heVolkswagen e-Golf in Canada prompted some doubt over the future of the only all-electric VW in 2020." according to Mark Kane at InsideEVs: "According to the latest news, Volkswagen confirmed that the e-Golf will be available in 2020, which is reasonable, especially since the Volkswagen ID.3 is not coming to North America, and the CROZZ version will follow probably from 2021 on."   https://insideevs.com/news/354954/volkswagen-confirmed-sales-e-golf-canada-2020/   NISSAN E-NV200 SALES SOAR UK sales of the fully electric Nissan e-NV200 have increased by 200% in 2019 as small business leaders look to increase fleet efficiency and reduce costs, amid changing emissions legislation and the introduction of London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone.   The surging demand echoes the results of a recent Nissan survey, showing that 24% of UK small businesses expect van fleets to be fully electric within a decade.   PSA GROUP TO PRODUCE BATTERY PACKS IN SLOVAKIA "PSA Group (Peugeot, Citroën, DS, Opel/Vauxhall) is the latest carmaker that decided to produce battery modules/packs for hybrid/plug-in electric vehicles in Eastern Europe." reports InsideEVs: "According to Reuters, PSA selected Slovakia's plant in Trnava, which will later be supplemented by a plant in Vigo, Spain. Currently, there is no details about volume and models."   https://insideevs.com/news/354972/psa-group-to-produce-battery-packs-in-slovakia/   LONDON LOOKS TO INSTALL AS MANY AS 50,000+ EV CHARGE POINTS BY 2025 "London Mayor Sadiq Khan has unveiled an updated electric vehicle infrastructure delivery plan which aims to put as many as 50,000 EV charge points in the city by 2025, as London looks to become a zero emission transport city by 2030." writes Phil at Electrek: The plan looks to eliminate barriers to further accelerate the already rising rate of EV adoption in the city — estimates show EVs could increase from around 20,000 in the city today to more than 330,000 by 2025  — and it looks to address that by installing thousands and thousands of charge points, as Khan calls for “an electric vehicle revolution.” Transport for London (TfL) has already committed to installing 300 rapid charge points by the end of 2020, and it’s expected that over 3,500 “slow to fast” AC charge points will also be installed by the end of 2020. But many more will be needed if the city is to achieve its infrastructure goals, with anywhere from 36,000 to 51,600 total charge points seen as needed by 2025"   https://electrek.co/2019/06/17/london-ev-charge-points-2025/   DELHI LAUNCHES APP TO BOOK SLOT AT EV CHARGING STATIONS "The first electric vehicle charging station in a public area has been installed in India’s capital city Delhi. Along with the charging station, a mobile phone application has also been launched to help electric vehicle users." reports Clean Technica: "To assist the vehicles users with charging, a mobile application has also been launched that allows users to book a slot to charge their vehicles using the application."   COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week. Keep your comments coming in on email and YouTube…   What’s the best way to spread the word about EVs?   I want to say a heartfelt thank you to the 222 patrons of this podcast whose generosity means I get to keep making this show, which aims to entertain and inform thousands of listeners every day about a brighter future. We all know about the problem with obesity and chronic disease that plagues modern society and there are measures on a variety of fronts being taken to help curb the trend around the world. But the following story out of the UK should be incredibly disturbing to anyone who embraces the value of consuming real, whole foods. Bacon and butter 'banned from Farmdrop London Underground advert': https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-l... Vilifying foods like bacon, butter, and eggs as "junk food" is absolutely abhorrent to health podcaster and international bestselling author of KETO CLARITY Jimmy Moore who chides the Transport for London (TfL), which oversees the London Underground advertising, for irrationally lumping together sugar and fat as equally harmful. Watch Jimmy set the record straight and issue a warning that this could happen in other parts of the world like the United States if it is not countered in this video. Research released by Deloitte in October this year showed that the release of open data by Transport for London (TfL) is generating annual economic benefits and savings of up to £130m a year For almost ten years, TfL has been releasing a significant amount of open data, from air quality information to wifi access points, allowing developers and partners to bring new products and services to market more quickly. TfL has worked with a wide range of professional and amateur developers, ranging from start-ups to global innovators, to deliver new products in the form that customers want. This has led to more than 600 apps now being powered specifically using TfL's open data feeds, used by 42 per cent of Londoners. Rikesh Shah, Head of Commercial Innovation at TfL, will talk about their open data journey, how open data has created an eco-system of innovators. Rikesh will also highlight the successful factors and outcomes around start-up engagement with corporates and some of the challenges around procurement. About the speaker Rikesh Shah is the Head of Commercial Innovation at Transport for London, the authority responsible for delivering the London Mayor’s transport strategy. He has been at TfL for over 16 years, previously in the areas of commercial development, communications and digital. He is responsible for creating value in the future mobility space from market innovators including start ups, academics, transport operators, regional agencies, R&D organisations and corporates. This involves on-going engagement with this community, utilising the right procurement processes, developing the right culture and providing the right level of access to data and policy makers. Previous to this role, Rikesh led TfL’s open data programme, digital commercial activity, stakeholder engagement and communications supporting TfL’s digital transformation strategy. By building digital and data partnerships with start- ups, as well as leading technology platforms including Twitter, Amazon and Google, Rikesh has been at the forefront of TfL’s Open Data provision to over 13,000 developers producing over 600 customer facing travel apps used by 42% of Londoners. This has placed customer digital at the core of TfL’s business.

In Episode 13 of the Art of Waging Small Business Warfare podcast, we bring you up to speed with Guerrillapreneur News, news about the sharing, gig and circular loop economies that is expected to grow to $335B by 2025. First, we discuss the Ford/Lyft partnership around self-driving cars. Juniper Research released the Sharing Economy: Opportunities, Impacts & Disrupter 2017-2022 report that forecasts that the number of ride sharing drivers will increase from an estimated 4.3 million in 2017, to 8.6 million by 2022. Given this forecast, it makes sense for Ford to seek a partner that can help them convert their manufacturing business into a "revenue by the ride" services company. Second, WeWork teams up with IBM to manage an entire office for the tech giant. This arrangement marks a shift in WeWork's strategy. Given it's technical infrastructure, I discuss how I believe WeWork will eventually become a full service talent management business. Third, I explain how the Ikea/Task Rabbit merger is a sign that more mainstream companies are going to buy their way into the Sharing Economy. Expect players like McDonalds to purchase delivery companies like Deliveroo. Fourth, I discuss some of the headwinds that might slow the Sharing Economy. Uber lost its license to operate in London because the the Transport for London (TFL) was concerned that Uber was not carrying out appropriate background checks on drivers or reporting serious criminal offenses when they occur with their drivers. Given this action, I speculate about the future of background checks and how ride-sharing services will operate in the future. Fifth, First Data launches a new instant "Disburse-to-Debit Card" service which enables instant payments for gig workers. This innovative solution will eventually disrupt traditional banking relationships. Sixth, Airbnb is facing a headwind in Akron, Ohio where the City Council prohibited a man in an upscale neighborhood from placing his house on the home-sharing platform. The homeowner has never had an issue with any of his guests, but his neighbors successfully argued that the activity could adversely impact their property values. Seventh, two new camping startups are taking on Airbnb. Tentrr and Hipcamp have platforms that help individuals locate and book campsites that they setup for the landowners. Eighth, I give you an update on the Chinese startup, E-Umbrella. The umbrella sharing service has lost all 300,000 of their umbrellas. Customers used their smartphones to obtain the umbrellas, but their failed to return them. I provide a few ideas on how to save the business. Finally, I ask the question, "What will you own in the future as the Sharing Economy are bigger part of the US GDP?" The answer might surprise you. How is it happening, what did we have to do to solve the issue, and do the powers that be at Instagram and Facebook need to fix it? Also, Transport for London (TfL) has launched a new chatbot, allowing you to chat to an artificial intelligence on Facebook Messenger and ask about the bus timetable. We want to know what TfL is trying to achieve with this, when there are already a million and one ways to check the bus network. Is another layer of automation in customer service just going to serve to peeve people off? We also take a look at BT's latest superfast broadband technology and have a whinge at how bad consumer broadband is in the UK, and our Techno Dinosaur, Michele, has heard a rumour that she could be inadvertently scratching her laptop hard drive. Is this true? Could you be accidentally destroying the data on your computer? Recorded on 15 June 2017 at Park Town Studios, London, England. All rights reserved.
