I'm incredibly excited to bring you this episode all around aging and feeling empowered and becoming embodied through some of the most challenging identity shifts we face as women. This time of life is not always thought of with excitement or love or grace or… really anything except dread and resistance. And quite frankly, I don't think enough women talk about the honoring, surrendering, grieving, and celebrating of this transition. This initiation. We're so deeply programmed to be in the “crone” mentality vs what Amanda calls the “mystic.” The mystic is the deep embodiment of the aging woman—the wisdom keeper—and I cannot wait for you to hear her share more about what that is and means! As you know, this year has been one of the most transformative for me. Recently, I attended the ReWild Retreat with Davana May, and one of the guest speakers was Amanda Young, a women's leadership mentor, embodied mythologist, an OG in the divine feminine space with over 18 years of experience.Amanda, like me, is 53 years young. Beyond that, there is so much synergy and beautiful energy that assisted this very potent conversation, one which is deeply supportive for women who are awakening to a lot of different perspectives and insights right now.One of the main reasons I wanted to bring Amanda on is because at the retreat, she talked about this concept of maidens, mothers, and mystics. Our conversation begins there and weaves in so many juicy directions! In this conversation, we discuss everything from motherhood even not as a biological mother, to grieving identities, to goddess archetypes, “The Triad of Feminine Power” and we wrap with a simple and sacred embodiment practice that all women can easily begin to bring into their daily lives.May this discussion awaken an aliveness in you. May it ignite the spark you've forgotten was there and remind you of who you really are. Let's journey! → Save your spot at the Soul Essence Retreat! This podcast featured an interview lead by Dr. Amanda Young and her Master students from California State University, Long Beach, where they interview educators in the APE field about working with students with behavioral issues. Specifically, one guest works as an APE specialist for charter schools in California, and the one teaches PE at an alternative school for special education in Vermont. The group goes into common definitions and misconceptions in the APE community, such as the population of students that these educators serve. After outlining the different types of support in place at the alternative school in Vermont, such as different types of classroom clinicians working with the teachers, the guests then reflect on the transition process from public school into these more specialized types of programs that collaborate as a close knit community. At this program, the end goal is to get the students able to return to their public school with a behavior plan that allows for independence as well as inclusion. Strategies that these schools use are proactive behavior management, strong communication between teachers, and creating a safe space for students to have what they need. The ability to implement this comes from the ability to be vulnerable and not being afraid to embarrass yourself as a teacher. While these programs might be unique in what they can offer to students, things like the language used to teach students self advocacy can be applied in many settings to help children understand their emotions better. A piece of advice that was given from the teacher's perspective was to get to know the student, to try and truly understand them as a person. When a student feels like a teacher cares, everyone benefits. This can be found in the community based programs at the Vermont based school, such as basketball, soccer, and gymnastics camp. At the end of the day, flexibility, connection, communication are key to the success of APE programs.

Today is Friday, Feb. 16 #1 – From ONE TOYOTA – Environmental engineer Amanda Young has worked for Toyota West Virginia for three years. She spoke to One Toyota about her role, why she's passionate about biodiversity and why you should always speak up. “Environmental work is unpredictable. However, my team and I are working every day to make sure Toyota West Virginia is always in compliance and meeting our goals. We physically inspect equipment, write reports and mitigate any issues as they arise,” Young said. She is part of the Region 1 team that assists non-manufacturing sites with their environmental compliance. She also works with the sustainability team through the biodiversity working group to try to effect change across Toyota North America to protect native species and help build native habitat. Young has found that women at Toyota are extremely supportive of each other. “I was nominated to attend the women's conference last year and met some amazing women who are still my friends to this day. We want to see each other succeed and be role models for others,” she said. The DNR plans to observe the hares in their natural habitat. The snowshoe hare can be spotted in the upper regions of the state, from Tucker and Grant counties to Greenbrier County. The snowshoe hare has always been a resident of the state, but a population influx in the 1940s increased their numbers. The snowshoe hare undergoes a color change in winter, from brown to white. Instead of burrowing underground like rabbits do, they inhabit dense, low areas on the ground and are active mainly at night. The research team uses trail cameras to record the hares and even collects their droppings. The droppings are unique to each hare and can provide data about the location and population of these hares in West Virginia. She was experiencing unimaginable levels of burnout, and compassion fatigue and was barely surviving… it broke her heart, but she knew that she had to prioritize herself and her mental health if she wanted to be a better human, friend, wife, daughter, or sister… let alone run a developing brand she'd created, full-time. Through this process, she was able to find that her identity WASN'T just in being an animal trainer; She had so much to offer the world and it was time she focused on herself to begin sharing that voice. We Discuss:Amanda's personal journeyHow she is normalizing the conversations around mental healthWhy she feels it's so importantHow she's doing itHer wise words for others Links to Check Out:Amanda's website - That Manda GirlLink to Amanda's BooksAmanda's Instagram - that_manda_girlAmanda's Twitter Account - @that_manda_girlAmanda's Facebook Page - @ThatMandaGirlAmanda's Pinterest - That Manda GirlAmanda's LinkedIn - Amanda YoungNAMI - National Alliance on Mental IllnessInternational Bipolar Foundation Follow Daughters of Change:Website:Facebook:InstagramLinkedInMarie's LinkedIn:Daughters of Change Podcast Editor: Sarah StaceySarah's LinkedIn Profile

Amanda Young is a Bestselling Author, Mental Health Advocate and Podcast Host. When life threw her a massive curve ball resulting in the loss of her dream job, Amanda used that moment to pivot her mindset instead of dwell in misfortune. She's used that setback to help set up dreams she never thought were possible: becoming a bestselling author who uses her voice to inspire conversations surrounding mental health, breaking societal norms and advocating for inclusivity. After her Bipolar 2 diagnosis in 2021, Amanda learned the necessity of speaking up and has been using her voice to advocate towards mental health awareness and acceptance. Using her voice, regardless of who is listening, truly has become Amanda's superpower - one she's extremely proud of. In episode 218 of the Fraternity Foodie Podcast, we find out why Amanda chose the University of South Florida, what was special about the women of Sigma Delta Tau sorority, what her goal was in working with killer whales and the people that work with these animals, what she did when she was laid off from the job - sharing her journey online and building a community to support mental health, how contracting COVID-19 pushed her to daily panic attacks, the goal for her mental health podcast called Sunshine and Rainbows, more about her children's book series and how it reached Amazon's Bestseller List, how finding a psychiatrist that would actually listen to her symptoms helped to get clear, aligned, and under control, the warning signs we should be looking for in our fraternity brothers and sorority sisters, and where students can go for help with their mental health. We're all familiar with CEOs and CFOs, but we're well overdue for a Chief Officer in the HR department. That's why Amanda Young is here as Chief Human Resources Officer at Bankers Trust — to talk about what that role means and how the expectations have changed over the past two decades. Amanda started her career in HR, working through internships and learning from mentors along the way. She found herself as an HR manager at 27, and today she is one of Fortune's 40 under 40 as the CHRO at Bankers Trust. She manages a team of 525 employees and, although banks are known for being stuffy and structured, Amanda brings new life to the industry by focusing on creating the meaningful work experiences employees want. Just over the past two years, the talent landscape has changed. People are leaving behind traditional roles for a variety of experiences that bring new depth to their careers. It's less about climbing the corporate ladder and more about enriching the work experience. For Amanda, it's about creating the flexibility for her team to do just that. Like many businesses, Bankers Trust transitioned to a more flexible workplace over the pandemic. But more than going online, the bank relaxed the dress code and maintained its focus on leadership and managerial training. Amanda is still facing a few obstacles in the coming year, but learning to respond to changes instead of just reacting to them isn't one. Her intentional responses and the deliberate and collaborative programs she's implemented for her team continue to provide them with the meaningful experiences they need. Of course, not every program can be a success story. Amanda shares her pitfalls and what happens when the programs you plan don't have any follow-through. It really takes a team to manage a company, and she takes care to enrich and empower her team just as much as she empowers herself. Tune in now to hear more about the role of a Chief Human Resources Officer and the resources Amanda uses for herself. If you would like more information on the resources Amanda discusses in this episode, check out: Fear Is Not The Boss Of You by Jennifer Allwood

A decade ago, ESG was a term deployed as social lip service; now, it's part of daily boardroom discussions, and top of the agenda for G7 leaders, financial institutions and businesses. The Paris Agreement propelled the conversation to the forefront of everyone's minds, and today ESG credentials are key to securing anything from bank loans to equity investment. While progress has been made, the sector is still in its infancy and, with new regulation coming in seemingly every month, with its concomitant challenges, there's still plenty of work to be done. However, get it right and the future should still look bright. To help us navigate the subject, Amanda Young, Global Head of Responsible Investment at abrdn joins us on the show. Post credit to Alissa Walker and Wade Sutherlin, the lucky husband of Amanda Young who was my guest on episodes 172 and 173 A CONVERSATION ABOUT PERCEIVED VALUE: A customer asked a contractor friend of mine how much it would cost to do this project. My friend gave him a proposal: $4500 The customer responded: That seems really high. My friend asked: What do you think is a reasonable price for this job? The customer answered: $2500 maximum My friend responded: Ok, then I invite you to do it yourself. The customer answered: I don't know how to. My friend responded: Alright, then how about for $2500 I'll teach you how to. So besides saving you $2000, you'll learn valuable skills that will benefit you in the future. The customer answered: Sounds good! Let’s do it! My friend responded: Great! To get started, you are going to need some tools. You will need a chop saw, table saw, cordless drill, bit set, router, skill saw, jigsaw, tool belt, hammer, etc.. The customer answered: But I don't have any of those tools and I can't justify buying all of these for one job. My friend responded: Ok. Well then for an additional $300 I can rent my tools to you to use for this project. The customer answered: Okay. That’s fair. My friend responded: Great! We will start the project on Monday. The customer answered: I work Monday through Friday. I’m only available on the weekends. My friend responded: If you want to learn from me then you will need to work when I work. This project will take 3 days so you will need to take 3 days off work. The customer answered: That means I’m going to have to sacrifice my pay for 3 days or use my vacation time! My friend responded: That’s true. Remember, when you do a job yourself you need to account for unproductive factors. The customer answered: What do you mean by that? My friend responded: Doing a job completely from start to finish includes time spent to plan the project, pick up materials, travel time, gas, set up time, clean up, and waste disposal amongst other things. That’s all in addition to the actual project itself. And speaking of materials, that’s where we will start on Monday so I need you to meet me at the lumberyard at 6:00 am. The customer answered: At 6 am?!! My workday doesn’t usually start until 8 am! My friend responded: Well then you’re in luck! My plan is to start on the deck build by 8 am. But to do so we have to start at 6 am to get materials picked up, loaded, and delivered to your job site. The customer answered: You know, I’m realizing that a lot more goes into a job than what a customer sees in the finished project. Your proposal of $4500 is very reasonable. I would like you to handle the project. CONCLUSION: When you pay for a job, especially a custom job, (whether it’s a physical project or digital project) you pay not only for the material and the work to be completed. You also pay for: ✔️ Knowledge ✔️ Experience ✔️ Custom Skills ✔️ Tools ✔️ Time to plan ✔️ Time to prepare ✔️ Professionalism ✔️ Work Ethic ✔️ Excellence ✔️ Discipline ✔️ Commitment ✔️ Integrity ✔️ Taxes ✔️ Licenses ✔️ Sacrifices ✔️ Liabilities ✔️ Insurance If you request a proposal for custom work to be done, please don’t disrespect a service provider by trying to get them to lower their prices. If their proposal exceeds your budget, there’s nothing wrong with getting other proposals. Just remember.. you get what you pay for.

My podcast coverage of Nashville Film Festival continues in this short-films episode where I interview the directors for two different short films that got my attention at the festival. One has more of a documentary feel while the other one is a more stylized film with elaborate production design, so I paired the two interviews to explore how shorts can come together and the creative possibilities they can offer. The first interview is with Amanda Young, one of the directors behind Every Two Minutes, a compilation of stories relating to human trafficking. The short was done through StoryGive, which partners filmmakers in Nashville with non-profits that tackle various social issues. For Every Two Minutes, StoryGive connected local filmmakers with End Slavery Tennessee, a non-profit dedicated to caring for survivors of human trafficking and tactically addressing the issue. The second interview is with Chilean director Vicente Manzano. His experimental short Bubble uses bubble framing in a novel, story-driven way. In this episode I continue my interview with Amanda Young and learn more about how this single soccer mom goes about buying houses after losing her job and while unemployed. Yes, you read that right, she lost her job, and THEN bought rentals! Amanda also dives into how she began to attract private money with no prior experience in doing so. Later in the episode; Amanda discusses how adding a partner to the mix (a local realtor friend) she was able to get more deals done in less time and with greater profits. Amanda loves to buy sinkhole homes for pennies on the dollar after she learned that most people (including me) are scared of them. Amanda has taken this niche seriously and for doing so, built herself a nice portfolio of rentals. She deep dives into the history and misinformation about buying sinkhole homes and how she has leveraged this knowledge to her advantage as a rehabber. Amanda has learned to look for problems and uses common sense and patience to orchestrate offers that sellers accept because they are custom to their situation. Many people think that all sellers want all cash. While its true that many sellers think they want or need cash the reality is that the sellers often don’t need cash at all, they need what the cash will do for them. I hear many people say that they don’t believe a seller will take payments for their home. Much of this belief comes from within your own system of beliefs, afterall, how can you predict what a seller needs or wants? Yes, many sellers may want and insist on all cash, however Amanda is yet another example of an investor who leverages problem solving into seller financed deals. I bet, if you believed it was possible you could structure seller financed deals, you would own a few seller financed deals. My beliefs have helped me structured tons of seller financed deals, some with no money down and / or zero interest! I believe these two episodes are some of the best content we have recorded, I hope you take the time to listen to them more than once.
In this two-part episode I sit down face to face in the studio with a local investor Amanda Young. Amanda has been investing for many years now, beginning as a buy and hold landlord and later including house flipping to her resume. Amanda believes in getting face to face with the sellers while taking the time out to build rapport with them before trying to buy their house. In this episode, Amanda breaks down the steps she takes in getting to know the sellers and how she learns about whatever problem they may have that can be solved by the sale of their home. When we focus more on the seller’s problem than we do on the property we build strong relationships with the seller. Anyone can throw an “all cash” offer at a seller and hope for the best, but those who take time to invest in the seller will yield far greater results. Amanda outlines how she has been in multiple offer settings and won the bidding as the LOWEST bidder! Sellers that “like” us are far more likely to do business with us. People generally avoid doing business with people they do not like. To be liked we need to be good listeners which means applying that 70/30 rule. This means that 70% of the time we should be listening, and 30% of the time it’s ok to talk; BUT during that time we should be asking questions. The more we learn about the seller’s situation, the more prepared we are to help them and heal their pain. Offers that solve problems get accepted, its really that simple.
The third episode of Toxic Podcast is a reckoning of sorts. SAW III proves to be too much for Alejandro, who wonders for the first time if a podcast in which the host constantly exposes himself to toxic media is not the healthiest idea. The drama of Jigsaw and Amanda Young grows ever more tortured as the question looms--who's game is this? Don't drown in pig guts--have a listen!

First and foremost, we are deeply saddened by the events that took place in Las Vegas on October 1st. Our hearts go out to the victims and their families, and we continue to keep those affected by this tragedy in our prayers. This week, JP and Matt are joined by Amanda Young, a colleague of JP's from their film school days! Amanda just wrapped her first short film, LOVE, GWEN, a deeply personal crime-thriller that was written and directed by her in order to attend the American Film Institute's Women's Directing Workshop. The project began to take a life of its own however, and became something more than an application, and became an astonishingly moving debut. Amanda tells us her story, how she became a filmmaker, the origins behind LOVE, GWEN, her personal connection to the characters and events in the film, and the subject matter of addiction and co-dependency. Join Dr. Angela Lauria of The Author Incubator as she interviews Amanda Young on the writing and publishing of her book, Finding Clarity. Amanda had set a goal in the writing of this book. In her mind, it just had to come out in spite of her having another book in mind. The topic of the book kind of mirrored what she went through in the process of realizing it, because at the beginning, she lacked a focus and it wasn't clear who she was writing for. But after several tries, she finally got her ideas straight and everything became clear to her - from what her business really was, to who she intended to serve. "I found clarity by writing Finding Clarity!" she said, and adds that clarity is the best thing that's come out of having the book. She now has defined steps for helping people with the same problem.
