Episode 334 features Ed Banos, the son of Les Banos, a World War II spy who saved more than 200 lives during the Holocaust and later became a sports photographer, and Aaron Huentelman, competition meat manager at Mr. Brisket Ed Banos serves as the President and CEO for University Health and was recognized as a Healthcare Hero by the San Antonio Business Journal.  However, it is not his story we are focused on, but rather the story of Ed's father, Les Banos.  The following are excerpted from online obituaries, "Raised in Budapest, Hungary, Les Banos hid countrymen from the Nazis during World War II and infiltrated German SS headquarters as an Allied spy. He helped hide and save the lives of hundreds of Hungarians.  After the war, he immigrated to the United States, attended the University of Pittsburgh and worked as a cameraman for local TV stations and as a  photographer for the Pirates, Steelers, and Penguins.  Les Banos' favorite subject was his friend, Roberto Clemente, who died Dec. 31, 1972, in a plane crash during a relief mission to earthquake victims in Nicaragua.  Les Banos often said he should have been on that plane, but that was the day the Steelers, played Miami in the AFC championship. The game was made possible by the Steelers beating Oakland the previous week on the Immaculate Reception.  Les Banos captured Clemente's 3,000th hit in a frame-by-frame sequence, and many of his photos have been displayed in exhibitions through the years. A current collection can be seen at the Roberto Clemente Museum in Lawrenceville. Aaron Huentelman is the competition meat manager at Mr. Brisket, a premium quality butcher shop.  He has a degree in restaurant management, has worked in numerous kitchens over the years, and has also managed several restaurants.  His passion, however, is meat smoking. He has been a regular in competition barbecue for the last ten years, with numerous top ten finishes, including a Grand Championship at the Dayton BBQ Rodeo in 2017.  He is the owner of an award winning sauce and rub company, Go Big Or Go BBQ.  To learn more about Aaron's sauce company go to https://www.gobigorgobbq.com/ and to learn more about Mr. Brisket go to https://www.misterbrisket.com/ We recommend you go to Rogue Cookers website, https://roguecookers.com/ for award-winning rubs, Chef Ray Sheehan's website, https://www.raysheehan.com/ for award-winning saucess, rubs, and cookbooks, Baseball BBQ, https://baseballbbq.com for special grilling tools and accessories, Magnechef https://magnechef.com/ for excellent and unique barbecue gloves, Cutting Edge Firewood High Quality Kiln Dried Firewood - Cutting Edge Firewood in Atlanta for high quality firewood and cooking wood, Mantis BBQ, https://mantisbbq.com/ to purchase their outstanding sauces with a portion of the proceeds being donated to the Kidney Project, and for exceptional sauces, Elda's Kitchen https://eldaskitchen.com/ We conclude the show with the song, Baseball Always Brings You Home from the musician, Dave Dresser and the poet, Shel Krakofsky. No Kings to Hungary: Ezra Levin & László Upor on Fighting Fascism, Trump & Orbán [Re-Air - Uncut Conversation]

Synopsis:  If you're worried about authoritarianism, this episode reminds you that people-powered resistance still wins. Indivisible's Ezra Levin and Hungarian organizer László Upor share creative, community-driven tactics — from joyful protests to bold campus actions — that pushed back against autocratic agendas. Their message: you have more power than you think. This show is made possible by you!  Make a tax deductible donation and become a member, go to LauraFlanders.org/donate.  Description [orignal airdate December 2025]: If you care about resisting autocracy and building democracy, the U.S. has much to learn from Hungary. While Donald Trump rails against Europe, he and Hungary's strongman leader, Viktor Orbán, have praised each other for years. Anti-democratic, anti-immigrant, anti-woman, anti-queer — Orbán and Trump came to power on parallel tracks with similar values. In their first interview together, Ezra Levin, the co-founder of Indivisible (the group behind No Kings!) and László Upor, a leader in one of Hungary's most creative and visible resistance efforts, share their experiences of resisting authoritarianism. Upor is former Vice Rector and Acting Rector of the University of Theatre and Film Arts in Budapest — the one university that fought back when the Orbán administration began taking control of Hungary's universities. Levin is the co-founder and co-executive director of Indivisible, the grassroots movement behind such protests as the historic Hands Off and No Kings rallies. From the principles of their organizing to frog suits and caution tape, today's episode is a masterclass in creative resistance. Plus a commentary from Laura. “Our enemy in this isn't Trump, it's not the Republicans. It's not the broader regime. Our enemy is this sense of cynicism or fatalism or nihilism . . . I do think a core principle in our communication philosophy is convincing people, you have power, you just gotta use it. The best way to use it is in concert with a lot of other people in your community.” - Ezra Levin “You have to laugh at them, not be afraid of them . . . They don't understand mirth. They don't understand the derision. They think they are invincible. And when we don't give in, they don't understand what's going on.” - László Upper Guests: • Ezra Levin: Co-Founder & Co-Executive Director, Indivisible • László Upor: Former Vice Rector & Acting Rector, University of Theatre and Film Arts (SzFE), Budapest, Hungary   Watch the episode released on YouTube; PBS World Channel Sundays 11:30am ET, and on over 300 public stations across the country (check your listings, or search here via zipcode). Csaba B. Horváth, PhD earned his PhD in International Relations at Corvinus University of Budapest after completing degrees in History and Political Science at Eötvös Loránd University. He is a member of the General Assembly of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. His research focuses on geopolitics, with a particular emphasis on the Indo-Pacific as well as on Central and Eastern Europe. He has held visiting research fellowships at several universities in Australia, China and Taiwan, and earlier in his youth, spent two years living in Japan, where he acquired conversational proficiency in Japanese. He is also a regular participant in international conferences and held public talks across the Indo-Pacific, including in Australia, China, India, Korea, Malaysia and Singapore. The talk explores the idea that East-Central Europe is currently experiencing a rare strategic “window of opportunity” not seen since the 18th century. For centuries, the region functioned largely as a buffer zone dominated by external imperial powers. Today, the effective disappearance and disintegration of traditional continental empires has created a structural power vacuum in the region, which, combined with shifting global power balances and growing strategic interest from the United States, is generating unprecedented conditions for East-Central Europe to emerge as a more autonomous geopolitical actor. The presentation examines the risks, constraints, and potential pathways for such a transformation. This lecture is part of the 18th Annual Symposium of the Kosciuszko Chair of Polish Studies. The Kościuszko Chair serves as a center for Polish Studies in the broadest sense, including learning, teaching, researching, and writing about Poland's culture, history, heritage, religion, government, economy, and successes in the arts, sciences, and letters, with special emphasis on the achievements of Polish civilization and its relation to other nations, particularly the United States. This year, the 17th annual Kościuszko Chair Conference focuses on the topic of threats and opportunities in the Intermarium. **Learn more about IWP graduate programs: https://www.iwp.edu/academics/graduate-degree-programs/ ***Make a gift to the IWP Kosciuszko Chair of Polish Studies: https://wl.donorperfect.net/weblink/WebLink.aspx?name=E231090&id=4

In this episode, I'm speaking with Emmanuel Ahiafor, who started travelling solo to Russia in his first year of university, visited over 15 countries, moved to Budapest because of a song, and now lives in New Brunswick with his family. When I asked him if he feels fully Ghanaian when he goes back, his answer was no. Things he once accepted as normal, he now questions. And yet, no place feels like home as much as Ghana for him.He thinks he'll go back eventually.----------Emmanuel and I chat about:How a song, a spontaneous trip, and a failed credit card led to four and a half years in BudapestThe gap between what the algorithm sells you about Canada and what you actually findWhy parenting far from home forces you to become your own villageThe lessons he'd share with anyone thinking about moving----------Dozie's NotesA few things that struck me as I listened through this week's conversation:Every country you live in installs something in you that you can't uninstall. Emmanuel picked up a European habit in Hungary, which is mind your own business even in the elevator. Then he moved to Canada and found people who wanted to chat as "too friendly." Every country you make home, even for a little bit reshapes your sense of what's normal, what you tolerate, and how much control you expect over daily life.Home doesn't require you to fit perfectly inside it. Emmanuel is probably never gonna fit in fully into Ghana again. And I think one lesson I took from reflecting on this point he made is that home isn't the place you currently agree with on everything. You can question it, outgrow parts of it, or feel frustrated by it. But deep in your bones, you just know it's home.Immigration will reveal all your biases. For Emmanuel, things that were fine in Ghana aren't fine to him anymore. Things that were normal in Hungary feel strange in Canada. Each move peels back another layer. And if you're not willing to do that work, you'll struggle, because the country you moved to doesn't care about preserving the version of yourself you arrived with.----------Official Links✅ Connect with Emmanuel Ahiafor on LinkedInOne AskIf you found this story helpful, please consider sharing it with one immigrant you know.

Today's episode is a powerful one! I'm joined by the beautiful Rochelle Fox ~ founder of Mindspo and a woman who is doing truly transformative work in the world of meditation, manifestation, and reconnecting with your inner voice. What I love most about Rochelle's work is that it comes from lived experience. Her journey into meditation wasn't just curiosity or trend-based spirituality. It came from navigating deep anxiety, trauma, and eventually being diagnosed with PTSD. She shares so openly about how suppressed trauma showed up in her life ~ hypervigilance, attachment, wearing a mask, people-pleasing, even lying in certain situations because she never truly felt safe. She describes having an inner voice that felt like “the meanest girl in school” constantly in her ear… and how meditation quite literally changed her life.In this episode, we talk about: Following your true calling and going off the “script” society hands you How anxiety can sometimes disguise itself as intuition (and how to tell the difference) A powerful story about listening to intuitive nudges The role of EFT and shamanic shaking ~ and how animals naturally shake after life-threatening experiences (and how we can relate that to modern stress like emails, bills, and pressure) Rochelle's road to being diagnosed with PTSD and how that awareness shifted everything How manifestation isn't just mindset ~ it's alignment between your body and your mind What to do when your manifestations haven't materialised after months How to step into the version of you who already has the life you desireWe also dive into a really magnetic chapter of Rochelle's life in Budapest, where she felt deeply aligned, spacious, and in flow ~ and how that version of her was able to manifest with ease compared to times she felt blocked or contracted. If you've ever struggled with a loud inner critic, felt disconnected from your intuition, or wondered why your manifestations aren't landing… this episode is for you!A Gift for My Smilies Rochelle has generously offered 50% off a yearly subscription to the Mindspo App, plus a free trial. You can access the offer here:http://mindspo.app/75regulate(Just a heads up ~ this deal is only accessible via this link and isn't available directly in the App Store.)AND if you are interested in participating in Rochelle's Meditation & Regulation Teacher Certification - you can get $250 USD off by using the code - CLEO Access below: https://mindspo.com/teachertrainingPASS AROUND THE SMILE TICKETS FOR MY LIVE SHOW BELOW!Buy Melbourne tickets hereBuy Sydney tickets hereBuy Gold Coast tickets hereJoin my Facebook community group here! The Pass Around the Smile podcast is recorded on Bundjalung Country, in South East Queensland, Australia. Host Richard Garnett is joined by Ian Doyle to digest a massive day for Liverpool's European ambitions. Following the UEFA Champions League draw in Nyon, the Reds have been paired with Turkish champions Galatasaray in the Round of 16—a tie that carries plenty of history and a trip to the intimidating atmosphere of Istanbul. But the path doesn't get any easier; should Arne Slot's men progress, they are on a collision course with Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals. The lads break down the "nightmare" side of the bracket and discuss whether this is the toughest possible route to the final in Budapest. Also on the agenda is a look ahead to Saturday's 3pm kick-off at Anfield against West Ham United. Can Liverpool keep the pressure on the top four against a Hammers side fighting for survival? With injuries still lingering, who makes the cut? The panel debates the midfield balance and the frontline. Along with the usual scoreline calls and standout player picks for the weekend. #LFC #LiverpoolFC #FACup #ArneSlot #Anfield #BloodRed Don't forget to like, subscribe, and hit the bell icon to never miss an episode of the Blood Red podcast. The grade-two calf tear he suffered during the World Championship 1500m race in Tokyo in 2025 could have resulted inJosh Kerr stepping off the track and licking his wounds.Instead, he finished the race, committed to rehab, and returned to the stage at the Millrose Games. Kerr lined up in the 2-mile not just as the world indoor best holder (8:00.67), but as the man everyone was chasing. In a tactical, electric“kicker's battle,” he clocked 8:07.68 and finished second to American Cole Hocker, a reminder that even record holders must keep evolving.Josh's career highlights include winning the gold medal in the 1500m at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest; securing another gold medal in the 3000m at the 2024 World Indoor Championships in Glasgow; holding the world best time for the indoor 2-mile event, with a time of 8:00.67 set in February 2024 at the Millrose Games; and holding British national records for the outdoor 1500m (3:27.79) and the outdoor mile (3:45.34).But Milrose 2026 was a statement. If 8:07.68 in February is the starting point, the rest of the year could be something special. Because the best careers aren't built on perfect scripts. They're built on responses to adversity. And Josh Kerr has never shied away from the response.Tap into the Josh Kerr Special. If you enjoy the podcast, please consider following us on Spotify and Apple Podcasts and giving us a five-star review! I would also appreciate it if you share it with your friend who you think will benefit from it. Comment the word “PODCAST” below and I'll DM you a link to listen. If this episode blesses you, please share it with a friend!S H O W  N O T E S-The Run Down By The Running Effect (our new newsletter!): https://tinyurl.com/mr36s9rs-Our Website: https://therunningeffect.run -THE PODCAST ON YOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClLcLIDAqmJBTHeyWJx_wFQ-My Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/therunningeffect/?hl=en-Take our podcast survey: https://tinyurl.com/3ua62ffz
