What If the CIA and Weyland-Yutani Merged? (Spoiler: Everyone Dies) This week on the podcast, Alien: Earth Episode 5 and Episodes 3 & 4 of The Terminal List: Dark Wolf reviews. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Alien Earth: The Terminal List: Alien: Earth (FX/Hulu) Episode 5 – “In Space, No One…” Summary: A flashback shows the events that occurred on the Maginot starting seventeen days before it reached Earth. Junior security officer Clem wakes Morrow from cryosleep and tells him there has been a fire in one of the containment rooms. Two facehuggers have escaped and latched upon ship’s captain Dinsdale and science officer Bronski. Dinsdale dies from the facehugger’s acid blood when medical officer Rahim attempts to cut the tail from his neck. After being told by engineer Shmuel that the ship’s navigational systems were also damaged in the fire, Morrow concludes that a crew member has sabotaged the ship. Executive officer Zaveri assumes command of the ship, but Morrow threatens to relieve her if she does not prioritize the creatures above the crew. Bronski is placed in cryo-sleep to prevent the gestation of the Xenomorph, but this fails. In science officer Chibuzo’s lab, one leech specimen manages to open its test tube from the inside, and lays its larvae in her water bottle. Witnessing this, the Ocellus also escapes after Chibuzo fails to seal its containment vessel. Apprentice engineer Malachite drinks the water, and the larvae kill him from the inside; Chibuzo and Rahim are also killed by their defensive toxic gas when trying to extract them. Witnessing this, Zavari is in shock and Morrow relieves her of command. After being interrogated by Morrow, navigator Teng is killed by the fully-grown Xenomorph. Chief engineer Petrovich is revealed to be behind the sabotage at the order of Boy Kavalier, who promises him a hybrid body if the ship crashes in Prodigy territory. Petrovich kills Clem and is in turn killed by Morrow, who retreats to the control room and seals himself in. Zaveri is killed by the Xenomorph outside the door. With everyone dead, Morrow locks himself in the panic room and awaits the crash. Back in the present, Morrow meets with Yutani, offering to retrieve the specimens by force and kill Kavalier. Danawi’s phone shows he received $5 million in cryptocurrency to deliver to Balaz Molnar, a nuclear physics professor in Budapest. Texts come through from another number identified as Thana Haddad. Farooq questions her and discovers she is Danawi’s estranged daughter, but can’t bring himself to follow orders to kill her. Varon agrees not to tell the others after he confesses that, as a teenager, his sisters were raped by Uday Hussein, but he later helped the Americans in eliminating him. Edwards and Perash bond, but he becomes more estranged from his wife stateside. Impersonating Danawi, Farooq meets with Molnar and purchases proof of concept for proprietary bearings he is selling to Iran, which will enable them to still enrich uranium with the smaller number of centrifuges mandated by the nuclear deal. A third-party team tail Farooq after the meeting until he is extracted by Landry, and one kills Reinhart. Edwards has Varon cut CCTV and guns the man down on the Budapest Metro, taking a photo for identification before being extracted himself. Hastings becomes concerned about collateral damage with the convoy ambush plan and Edwards’ change in attitude. Edwards argues their current posting allows them to take real action compared to serving under military red tape. Haverford kills Molnar. Impersonating Austrian Federal Police, the team attacks the Khalid Network convoy and obtains the bearings, but are met by a large team of shooters on exfil. Farooq is injured and extracted by Landry. The Israelis betray the team, hacking Haverford's phone and stealing the bearings after incapacitating Edwards. Une batterie, une basse électrique, une basse synthétique, une guitare électrique, une guitare acoustique, un synthétiseur, un saxophone, une flûte, un accordéon, un chœur, des percussions, un piano électrique et un piano droit : la gamme de couleurs qu'il m'a fallu pour dépeindre en détails les sentiments que je déploie dans mes douze nouvelles chansons. Donc, à l'heure où j'écris ces lignes, ce n'est encore qu'un tas de dessins et de textes plus ou moins ordonnés. J'ai du pain sur la planche. Car un premier livre de ce type, comme un premier disque, est un peu constitué d'une vie entière, et quand on a 50 ans passés, il y a du tri à faire. À partir du deuxième, si on a bien fait son boulot dans le premier, on part d'une page blanche ou, au pire, d'une page beige. Nous verrons. L'album Toi là-bas. Paris, le 1er décembre 2024. Après quelques saisons très denses, j'ai ressenti à l'automne dernier le besoin imparable de me retrouver seul. Du moins face à moi-même. Je suis parti m'enfermer à la Villa Médicis où j'ai terminé d'écrire et de dessiner mon premier livre (Mes battements, paru en mars 2025 chez Actes Sud), un voyage intérieur qui, depuis des mois, me baladait loin dans le passé, mon village, mon enfance, mon adolescence. Je me suis amusé à reprendre quelques chansons de mes débuts comme Je te manque, Avril 4000 ou Non merci (2005), et j'ai remarqué que je leur donnais quelque chose que je ne voyais pas à l'époque. Je les habitais d'une nouvelle façon. J'ai tiré le fil, et d'autres chansons comme J'aime lire (2008) et enfin Pourquoi on pleure (2017) sont sorties naturellement de la pelote. Alors j'ai eu envie de les enregistrer à nouveau, comme de les photographier dans leur nouveau costume. Je me suis laissé aller sans faire de plans, sans pression, juste pour le jeu de la réinterprétation, pour le plaisir. Beaucoup de plaisir, musical autant que vocal. Les chansons en sont sorties plus sereines et plus sensuelles aussi, je crois. Boîtes à rythmes et basses profondes, synthétiseurs en halos suaves autour de mes instruments acoustiques chéris, comme mon piano Una Corda, et aussi cette incroyable Fender VI chère à The Cure ou Richard Hawley, une guitare électrique des années 60 accordée une octave plus grave, dont le son me retourne (écoutez le solo dans La valse des lilas). J'ai invité Alice on the Roof – avec qui je travaille pour son prochain album et que j'adore – à partager Pourquoi on pleure. Alice a accepté. La chanson en duo a pris un sens nouveau. Je pensais faire un petit EP à sortir à l'occasion de la parution du livre, mais comme je fouillais dans le rétroviseur depuis des mois, j'ai croisé quelques autres chansons importantes dans ma vie. La très souchonesque C'est bien moi que j'ai chantée l'an passé en hommage à Françoise Hardy avec Sage. La sublime Valse des lilas de Michel Legrand dont j'ai tant aimé la version américaine Once Upon a Summertime par Blossom Dearie ou Miles Davis. Et le temps s'arrêtait, d'Adamo, que nous avions arrangée avec Julien Chirol et Renaud Létang en 2003 pour le grand Salvatore lui-même. Et surtout, Ma gueule, lourdeur de Johnny qui me renvoyait au pire de la préadolescence brutale et masculiniste, jusqu'à ce que je découvre en la chantant qu'elle pouvait m'aller comme un gant et m'émouvoir même. Puisque mon livre et mon disque sortent en même temps, puisque leurs visuels et leurs thématiques sont cousins, j'ai quand même eu envie d'écrire une chanson nouvelle pour faire le pont entre les deux. En laissant errer mon regard dans les arbres de la Villa Médicis, j'ai revu Laurence, Natalia, Maud, Sidonie, Ouria… premières amoureuses qui ne m'ont pas connu. Que j'ai aimées, follement, mais de loin. Que j'ai regardées, sans relâche, dont j'ai étudié les gestes, les habitudes, les vêtements, ne détournant le regard que si je sentais le leur se tourner vers moi. J'avais trop peur. Peur de quoi. J'ai aussi entendu dans les arbres les échos de Charlotte Sometimes des Cure, sur laquelle je pleurais ces amours à distance. Trois jours plus tard, j'ai terminé la première maquette de Toi là-bas. Hubbard fell ill with knee swelling on April 3, 2019, and was taken to Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, Colorado to receive treatment. She was later sent to the hospital emergency room. On April 6, a doctor reported that she hadn't woken from treatment easily and her condition continued to worsen. On April 8, Barbara expressed that she was preparing to leave. Hubbard is survived by four children: Suzanne Hubbard, a tapestry artist, Woodleigh Hubbard, an artist and illustrator; Alexandra Morton, a marine biologist and environmental activist, and Lloyd Hubbard, retired USAF Lt. Colonel. Her eldest son, Wade Hubbard, a musician, preceded her. She has 8 grandchildren: Danielle Hubbard, Peter L. Hubbard, Jarrett Morton, Renee Brown, Clio Morton, Savannah Hubbard, Liam Hubbard, and Teagan Hubbard. She is survived by her siblings financier Louis Marx, Jr.; artist Jacqueline Barnett; social-change activist Patricia Ellsberg, wife of Pentagon Papers whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg; and Curtis Marx, a computer scientist. Her longtime partner, Sidney Lanier, passed in 2013.

In the fall of 2017, Enrique Garibay Ruiz—a physicist, mathematician, and writer—left Budapest for what he promised would be a short trip to the United States. He visited New York, then flew west to Los Angeles, checking into a hostel and renting a gray Toyota RAV4. He told his family he'd be home soon. But Enrique never came home. On October 3rd, he checked out of the hostel. On October 4th, he rented the car. On October 5th, he told his wife he was at the airport, waiting for a flight back to Hungary. Just hours later, in the early morning of October 6th, his credit card was swiped at a Carl's Jr. near LAX. After that—nothing. The car was never returned. Enrique was never seen again. Graham Plattner is running for Senate in Maine. He's not a career politician. He's not a household name. He's a newcomer, and he's coming in with the kind of video that's designed to break through the noise. It's everything you'd expect from someone trying to signal that they're different — kettlebell lifting, scuba diving, oyster farming, military gear. This is Fetterman-core, and I mean that in the pre-stroke, media-savvy, meme-friendly way. It's intentionally loud, intentionally masculine, and intentionally designed to get people talking.But this isn't just a vibe campaign. Plattner's already built a real team. He's working with the same media shop that did ads for Zohran Mamdani in New York and helped elect Fetterman in Pennsylvania. These aren't DCCC types. They're insurgent operatives with a history of getting attention — and winning. That tells me Plattner's not just here to make a point. He's running to win. And in a state like Maine, where ideological boundaries don't map neatly onto party lines, he might actually have a shot.Democratic leadership, though, has other plans. Chuck Schumer and his operation would clearly prefer Janet Mills. She's the sitting governor, she's 77 years old, and she'd walk into the race with a national fundraising network already behind her. But that's exactly the kind of candidate a guy like Plattner is built to run against. If she enters, it turns this race into a referendum on the Democratic establishment. And it gives Susan Collins exactly what she wants: two Democrats locked in a bitter primary while she gears up for a calm general election campaign.Maine is weird politically. I don't mean that as an insult — I mean it's unpredictable in a way that defies national modeling. This is a state that elects independents, splits tickets, and shrugs at coastal assumptions. A candidate like Plattner, who's running a progressive but culturally savvy campaign, could actually catch fire. He's already signaling that he's not going to run from the Second Amendment — which would make him a unicorn among progressives — and he seems to get that guns, culture, and economic populism all intersect here in a way that's not neat or clean.It's early, and most people outside the state probably haven't even heard of him. But he's getting coverage. And he's trying to frame himself as the guy who will show up everywhere — from left-wing podcasts to centrist fundraisers to gun ranges in rural districts. If he pulls it off, it won't just be a Maine story. It'll be a signal that Democrats are still capable of producing candidates who can speak across class and cultural lines without watering down the message. We'll see if he holds up under pressure.Trump, Zelensky, and the Shape of a Ukraine DealTrump's pushing a peace summit with Russia and Ukraine, and the location that's gained traction is Budapest. That's not a random choice. Budapest is where Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons in exchange for guarantees that turned out to be meaningless. Putin invaded anyway. So now, years later, trying to broker a peace deal in that same city feels almost poetic — or cynical, depending on how you look at it. Macron wants Geneva. Putin wants Moscow. Orbán, who runs Hungary, is offering Budapest as neutral turf. That offer seems to be sticking.The terms of the talks are shifting. Zelensky isn't being required to agree to a ceasefire before negotiations begin — which is a major departure from the Biden administration's stance. Trump's team seems to believe that real movement can happen only if you start talking now, without preconditions. That's risky. But it's also more flexible. The Russians are now suggesting they might accept something like NATO-style security guarantees for Ukraine — just without the name “NATO.” That's a big shift. If they're serious, it opens up a lane for something that looks like independence and protection without triggering all-out war.Zelensky, for his part, is in a bind. His approval rating has dropped. His party just lost ground. The economy is on life support. And the longer the war goes on, the harder it is to keep Ukrainians fully on board with total resistance. That's not a moral failing — it's exhaustion. What Ukraine wants now, more than anything, is certainty. If they're going to give up territory — and no one's saying that out loud, but everyone's thinking it — then they want to know they'll never have to fight this war again. That's where the Article 5-style guarantees come in.Trump's envoy, Steve Witkoff, is reportedly testing those waters. And Marco Rubio said the quiet part out loud — that if Ukraine can get real security commitments in exchange for ending the war, it's worth exploring. This isn't the “bleed Russia dry” strategy the Biden administration backed. That was about regime change through attrition. This is something else. It's about containment, closure, and trying to make sure the region doesn't explode again five years down the line.No one's pretending this is clean. Crimea isn't coming back. Parts of the Donbas are going to remain contested forever. But if a deal gets Ukraine real protection, even without NATO branding, and gets Russia out of the areas it's willing to surrender, that's movement. And right now, movement is the only thing that separates this from another decade of trench warfare and broken promises. Whether it holds is anyone's guess.
