That niggle, that inner knowing that something is out there and it's meant for you. Andrea and I dive deeply into a conversation about the unexpected and pleasant surprises switching careers brought her and what she's seen in the work that she does, relating it to what you can expect to happen to give you even more reasons to take the leap and follow your destined path. Through real life examples of our own and our clients, you'll discover;- - 5 unexpected pleasant surprises switching careers brought - How to believe it's possible to have a dream career - How to trust yourself and your inner knowing - What it means to live in alignment (this comes up so many times)! - Why you'll never regret taking the leap Andrea Horvath is a Career Transition Coach who helps women determine the career that ultimately lights them up and then supports them to confidently make that transition, even if they have no freaking idea of what that looks like. Her signature approach helps women connect with who they really are at their core and shows them how to make decisions that are in alignment with who they are and what they actually want. Through that process a new career vision is born and then created. Andrea was a Certified Professional Accountant in the corporate world, managing budgets between $10M-$20 and realized she was totally unhappy and unfilled. By all outside appearances she was successful, but she felt completely empty on the inside. From that place she began searching for and ultimately, finding the answers of how to feel completely excited and passionate about her career. She first started her business as a side hustle around her 9-5 corporate job and since then has been able to transition to full-time and do what she absolutely loves and help other women step into their power and follow their hearts. The Book Leads – Episode 60 – Patricia Ortega & Building A Story Brand Clarify Your Message So Customers Will Listen by Donald Miller The tough challenges Patricia, a Career Transition Coach and host of the podcast The Uncommon Career, had to overcome early in her life set the stage and lay the foundation for the work she's doing today helping people recognize their value and tell that story to the world. This was the perfect book for Patricia to discuss with me. In general, people are horrible at telling our stories – our REAL stories – and using them to reflect who we really are. So, we need to dial it in and tune it up. And that's exactly the work Patricia does to help others. What I took away from this conversation is the reinforcement of what coaches preach, namely that value is already inside who we're working with. It's a matter of realizing it, refining it, and presenting it that makes up the journey forward. Patricia understands that process based on her own experience growing up and into her own career. It's a reminder to both her and I, as well. All the pieces we discuss in the episode are the building blocks of our own commitments to our craft, namely building up our brand before an audience is there by knowing our story, recognizing our own value, and delivering it for others. It keeps us showing up – especially as podcast creators, episode after episode. We all need that constant reminder. It was great to share this exact conversation with a fellow coach and podcaster. Episode Highlights Breaking out and building up from the belief she was only ever meant to be at the bottom of the food chain, scraping up what no one else wanted. The tight parallels between entrepreneurship and being career savvy. The power of confirmation and validation for others. A conversation of what Artificial Intelligence (AI) can and cannot provide in the career coaching space. Confidence doesn't come from success but from the endless hours -- sometimes of blood, sweat, and tears -- practicing and refining our craft. The MAIN QUESTION that underlies my conversation with Patricia is, How much do we understand our story to then communicate our value to others? About Patricia Patricia is a master's level career counselor & coach with a decade of professional experience. Her mission is to use everything she's learned to help career seekers overcome mindset challenges and walk out their career goals. She helps people explore options and strategically navigate their career journey. Through the power of coaching, she also helps candidates develop a professional brand and communicate signature strengths so they can become confident, sought-after professionals. She is also a Christian, wife, dog mom, and of course, host of The Uncommon Career Podcast. I was introduced to Patricia by Erin Harrigan, my guest in Episode 55, in which Erin covered her book, Pursuing Success God's Way: A Practical Guide to Hustle with Heart. “That career you want, that unretirement career, second career, sustainable career over 50 is already inside you,” encourages John Tarnoff, Career Transition Coach. John joins Mike Horne in conversation to talk about midlife career transitions and finding purpose in a new career later in life. Many people are held back by the limiting belief that once they reach a certain age, they can no longer have a fulfilling career. Through coaching exercises, John helps his clients realize their potential and defy ageist stereotypes. Mostly it comes down to engaging the imagination and helping clients gain the confidence to believe and trust in themselves. We are living longer, and by midlife many people experience a mindset shift that encourages them to look for more profound meaning. This meaning can often be found in a new career. Tune into this week's episode of the Authentic Change Podcast to learn more about defying ageism in the workforce and the potential for finding a meaningful new career at age 50 and beyond. Quotes: “We're living longer. We still want to work. We're a generation that is very motivated by work, and get a lot of meaning and purpose out of that. What are we going to do? So I came up with a prescription, a kind of a self responsible prescription for how people can go about evading the ageist workforce and the broken recruiting and hiring system and sustaining and prolonging their careers.” (5:22-5:53 | John) “That career you want, that unretirement career, second career, sustainable career over 50 is already inside you. On some deep level, we already know what it is that we want to do. That thing we do best, which is the thing that is most useful. But on the other side of it, getting back to the question of baggage, in order to create that career, in order to create that future, we have to reconcile the past.” (13:02-13:32 | John) “Getting out of our heads and back into our hearts is where I see a lot of the work.” (18:42-18:49 | John) Links: Learn more about Mike Horne on Linkedin Email Mike at mike@mike-horne.com Find more about Leading People and Culture with Authenticity Learn more about John Tarnoff: Johntarnoff.com https://www.linkedin.com/in/johntarnoff/ Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm
On this episode, Kristin has a compelling interview with Emmy Petersson, originally from Sweeden, now working as a Career Transition Coach in Melbourne Australia. Emmy begins by telling of her journeys around the world and how she learned that “You don't need a lot of resources, you need a lot of resourcefulness.” Kristin and Emmy then examine the question: How do we get comfortable with being uncomfortable? -Where did we get the idea that things have to be perfect the first time? Emmy discusses the 3 Universal Needs: Fear of not being good enough/being found out Fear of not being loved Fear of not belonging Emmy encourages listeners to learn that they do not need to do everything alone and she has adopted a mantra that she learned from a coach she worked with in the past. “Whatever happens, I can handle it, with some help.” Kristin agrees and says, “If you're able to admit that you don't know something, that is a far greater strength than pretending you know something that you don't and you are just trying to mask that weakness.” In learning to become more comfortable with the workplace, Emmy encourages: “Don't put on a shield to go to work; go to work as you.” --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/soshedidpodcast/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/soshedidpodcast/support
The psychologist Douglas LaBier believes all life forms have purpose, and we as humans feel a drive to define a purpose for our lives. Maybe it’s okay to be comfortable just existing, not being aware of why we do things or behave as we do, but the drive to find meaning may also be essential to our human experience. Your purpose is unique to you. Your purpose helps to create meaning in your life, and it offers a sense of direction guiding your path. If you’ve ever wondered about purpose, join us in this interesting conversation with Chiara Woods! She is a Mindset and Career Transition Coach, and host of The Soulicitor Podcast.
