In the latest episode of Black Girls Eating, we dive into a captivating conversation with Kamae, a former MasterChef finalist who is breaking stereotypes and redefining success on her own terms. With a career in privacy law by day and a passion for culinary arts by night, Kamae embodies the essence of being multifaceted and unapologetically pursuing her dreams. The podcast episode unravels the journey of Kamae, who not only made it to the top three of MasterChef Generations but also continues to excel as a consumer protection attorney. She shares her experiences of navigating the intense world of reality TV, the challenges of time constraints in the MasterChef kitchen, and the importance of staying true to oneself despite the pressures of being in the public eye. Kamae's story is a testament to the power of fear as a motivator. She reveals how embracing fear helped her excel in the MasterChef kitchen, pushing her to deliver top dishes that honored her Haitian heritage. Her culinary journey is deeply rooted in family traditions, with her grandmother's influence playing a significant role in her love for cooking. This connection to her roots fuels her desire to preserve and pass down ancestral recipes, a mission she is passionate about as she embarks on writing her own cookbook. Listeners will find inspiration in Kamae's resilience and dedication to her passions. The episode also touches on the broader themes of being a Black woman in media, the societal pressures of perfection, and the importance of creating space for oneself to fail and grow. Kamae's insights resonate with anyone striving to balance multiple interests while staying grounded in their cultural identity. This episode is a must-listen for those who appreciate stories of courage, cultural pride, and the pursuit of excellence. Tune in to hear more about Kamae's journey, her reflections on life after MasterChef, and her plans for the future. Whether you're a foodie, a fan of reality TV, or someone seeking inspiration to chase your dreams, Kamae's story will leave you motivated to embrace your own multifaceted journey. About Kamay: Kamay Lafalaise is shattering stereotypes and rebuilding success in her own image. By day, she's negotiating the complex landscape of privacy law as a consumer protection attorney for the federal government. By night, she's turning up the heat as a former contestant and a Top 3 finalist on this recent season of MasterChef Generations, hosted by Gordon Ramsay. Kamay is artfully crafting a career that combines her legal expertise with her passion for cooking, proving that success and joy aren't mutually exclusive.

Could investing in innovative food services at senior living and healthcare facilities lead to better patient outcomes and satisfaction? Can elevating the food experience in hospitals help shift public perception of healthcare environments? In this episode of Associations Thrive, host Joanna Pineda interviews Leah Reily, Executive Director, Association for Healthcare Foodservice (AHF). Leah discusses:Her Journey from environmental conservation to association leadershipHow AHF members run self-operated food services in hospitals and senior living facilities, meaning the facilities hire their own staff instead of outsourcing to contract management companies to cook and serve food. How self-operated services provide better outcomes for patients, staff, and families. How self-service foodservice is not always more expensive to manage, AND they provide more direct benefits, such as improved food programs and a closer relationship with the facility's needs. Why and how AHF modernized its brand to adapt to changes in the healthcare food service industry. How the AHF annual conference is ultimately a food conference, which is why AHF brings chefs to help decide on the venue, and there is a cooking competition (Iron Chef style!) that is a highlight during the conference. How sponsors provide food that is part of the meal planning during the annual conference. The positive results from the rebranding: National conference attendance grew by 38%.How the rebrand lifted a weight off the staff, creating a sense of ownership and rejuvenating creativity and innovation.References:AHF WebsiteAHF 2023 Culinary Competition

Food has and will always be a major staple in everybody's life. As humans, we need food to keep us constantly active and living. Even if you aren't the most "food educated" we all have feelings and conversations about food. Along with this, the idea of watching somebody else cook has been a growing phenomenon for many decades. The ability to watch someone else make an exquisite (or even simple) dish that later you could attempt to replicate in your own home is exciting and can make food more enjoyable. Cooking shows have been the corner stone to educational television since their conception. Later cooking shows would became repolarized with the technology boom of the early 2,000's. With heavy hitters such as; Julia Child, Jamie Oliver, Rachael Ray, Martha Stewart and many more. It is no wonder the world fell in love with food through the screen. This week I am talking with Lee-Sean Huang, a food lover in his own right. We hangout and talk about how food and the ability (or lack of abilities) to cook shaped our childhoods. We discuss how food played a major role culturally, along with how we we observe different calibrations and festivities depending on the food options (if their are any at all). We really get into the topic of Competitive Cooking Shows and what does it actually mean to be a contestant on one. What are the crazy tactics TV Programs are taking in order to keep peoples attention when cooking. Are they loosing the thing viewers love most of the shows (learning how to cook), or are they targeting an audience that is less interested in learning and more interested in the shock value of the competition?
