Build Rapport The Way Your Prospects Want To Connect | Darren Reinke - 1553

As a salesperson, you (hopefully) enjoy interacting with your prospects. However, a typical sales mistake is forcing the prospect to fit our communication style rather than the other way around. In today's episode of The Sales Evangelist, Donald is joined by the author of The Savage Leader and founder of Group Sixty, Darren Reinke, to discuss building rapport the way the prospect wants.  Sellers assume prospects like to communicate in the same style as the seller. Selling should start with the understanding that we're all different. Establishing that early on will impact your ability to build rapport. Some people might like starting with a conversation; others prefer to focus on the tasks at hand. We're all different. Get a sense of the customer's style by learning what motivates and drives them. Listen to the prospect and pay attention to their tone and how they conduct themselves to understand how to communicate. Three steps to learn a prospect's communication style: Intention: Have a willingness to change and do something different. Question if there are better ways to build rapport as a seller and think about the potential achievements. Reflection: Know what kind of seller you are and use that understanding to change your communication (when necessary.) Action: Analyze someone's body language, tone of speaking, and how they interact and put that change into play. A focus on the commission can ruin the relationship.  If you see someone as a dollar sign, you probably won't build rapport anytime soon. Ask prompts to directly understand the audience - How do you like to receive information? How do you want to communicate? Asking questions (and listening to the answers) will indicate how you can best communicate. Be more intentional with your questions. People will come back to the conversation repeatedly because they like talking to you. Less talking and more listening is the best way to build relationships. Darren's biggest takeaway? Don't sell the way you like to sell; sell the way the prospect wants to be sold. Tailor your style to engage your audience. Their conversation covered how leaders can form a better bond with their tribe by being humble, showing their curiosity and eagerness to learn. Darren tackled and shared his learnings over the years and how the willingness to put in hard work will eventually pay off. And his definition of perseverance means getting out of your comfort zone, even if you need to face your own fears. But does facing your fears mean saying yes to everything? Tune in until the end of the show as they talk about how his experience taught him that great leaders are authentic and how reaching deep inside to know your values will help you prioritize which things to say yes to.Find nuggets of wisdom in this episode as they talk about self-limiting beliefs and encouraging your team to face their fears and take risks with you.Episode Quotes:How do you connect with your tribe better?"People generally think of communication as voice inflection, how you frame a conversation, project, vision, but I think there's something actually more fundamental than that. It's about humility, curiosity, empathy, and being present. Accepting that other people have value to any conversation. You don't know everything. You don't know the answer to every question. There's something that can be gained from even the rank and file in your organization. I think the same thing holds true for curiosity. The intrinsic curiosity that leaders should have about the world, around them, about the people around them. I think that connects back to humility."How do you become a great leader?"The willingness to be introspective. So that gets to the points of being humble, being curious, being more self-aware of yourself and the people around you. You have to be willing to put in the hard work because growing and changing is definitely not easy. It requires two things, which is that desire to be great, which creates that North Star for yourself. The introspection, which allows people to get to who they are as a person. What they need to do to get better. Then they have to put in the work because we can't just think about change."Thoughts on Surfing and Facing Fears:"I think to me, the upside for surfing is just too valuable. It makes me think about life. We're so anchored on things we can and can't control. I think I started to have this moment, I don't know if it was lucid or the opposite of that. I realized if I can just truly let go of the things that I can't control, it's like a superpower. In the same thing, it's like when you're surfing. All you can control is what's above the surface."Show Links:Darren on LinkedInHis Book: The Savage LeaderHis Company: Group SixtyTheir Podcast: The Savage Leader PodcastSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/onehaas/donations

Welcome back to the Catapulting Commissions Podcast with your host, Anthony Garcia. Today, Anthony is sitting down with Darren Reinke, founder of Group Sixty, an executive coaching and training company based in San Diego, to bring his purpose to life and to transform leaders, their teams, and their organizations. He's diving into everything leadership and how to build those skills from the inside, out.    First things first, much of leadership is learned through experience--putting ourselves in situations that demand growth over time. Are there people who are more natural at it than others? Sure, but everyone has it within them to develop those skills.    Darren's book, The Savage Leader: 13 Principles to Become a Better Leader from the Inside Out, was written because there's an inner journey to connecting to your values, but also becoming more authentic. It starts from the inside--greatness is something we define individually. Darren believes to become great, you have to first have a burning desire to be great, secondly, you have to be willing to be introspective. Without accepting feedback we can't get better. And thirdly, how do you activate those things? There, it's about adapting your communication to your audience to what is going to motivate them most. You can empower people to become leaders this way and create a culture by investing in people.    Transitioning from a contributor to a leader of your former peers can be difficult--not everyone is equipped for that, but you have to earn it either way. Most importantly, don't assume because your title says you're a supervisor, that you've earned being a leader. Start with listening and ask people what they're trying to achieve--what's important to them? Check your title at the door. You're all on the same field with the same goal, but you have different roles to reach it. Quarterbacks talk to their Wide Receivers about how/when they want the ball. Being a leader is a position of service.    Being an authentic version of yourself while being in a position of leadership can pose challenging hurdles to overcome. Darren reminds us that it comes down to your personal values and beliefs within the context of your work. The same way people have different styles of sales, styles of leadership start with your personal strengths. If you're more authentic, you'll be more confident. Be who you are vs. who you think you should be. When you do that, the people you lead will do it to. If you can create that alongside your team, you're winning--talking the talk and walking the walk are two different things.  LINKS   https://www.groupsixty.com/ thesavageleader.com @darrenreinke  https://www.linkedin.com/in/darrenreinke/
