A love letter to you, the Forty Thrive listener. On December 12, 2018, I launched this show. No big team, just my awesome editors to help me. I produced over 100 episodes, talking with incredible experts, and other badass women over 40. Over those 20+ months, while I've done a lot of talking (like, A LOT) I've also been listening -- to you. I've heard what you love about the show, what you'd like more of -- even what you'd like less of. One of the challenges I've had since Day 1 was letting women know that Forty Thrive is NOT just for women in their 40s, it's for women over 40. So if you're in your 50s or 60s — or hell, even beyond that, this is for you, too. But if you have to explain something more than a couple of times, you might need to tweak your messaging. I learned not only the age of the woman listening, but who that woman really is. She's someone who wants more out of life. She's a lifelong learner. She dares to dream. She knows this is the time to leap but is a little afraid of the idea… and even if she wanted to, HOW would she do it?She wants to take care of her shit. Like really wants to. But the self doubt creeps in… and she needs some support here. She cares less about what other people think and is starting to really tune into what her gut says. She's a GROWN-ASS WOMAN. And likely, she is YOU. Sure, the calendar says you're over 40. And that, to me, says something. It says we've lived a lot of life. We've got so much experience. But it's not just women over 40 that get me fired up, who turn to me for coaching and collaboration — it's GROWN-ASS women over 40. They're my spirit animals, for real. The past few years getting to help women find that spark inside of them and recommit to their own lives has been an honor. The fact that I get to do it for a living?
Forty Thrive's Top 10 of Season 2: #2 Meet Dr. Paria Hassouri, a pediatrician, mother of three, transgender rights activist, and author of Found in Transition: A Mother's Evolution During Her Child's Gender Change. I met Paria in 2019 while my family was going through our own transition, when one of our children came out as transgender. Paria and her family were a little bit ahead of us, going through a transition of their own with their teenage daughter. Now while you may not be familiar with transgender children or transgender issues and challenges, Paria's story is universal to any mom, really any human, who at one time believed that life would look one way until a bomb is completely dropped. Through Paria's story, you can feel her slowly begin to grow, find acceptance and express the unconditional love that was always within her. But it wasn't pretty and it wasn't easy. Get Found in Transition absolutely free with a trial of Audible. Forty Thrive's Top 10 of Season 2: #3 Raise your hand if you've ever looked at a woman who does yoga and envied not only how grounded, centered and balanced she is, but those arms and shoulders are serious workout goals. 50 is here, baby! And I've learned a few things in my 50 years on this beautiful planet. Today, I'm sharing 10 of those hard earned lessons in hopes that they can help you too. Psst: This is a great episode to share with your younger friends. (I'm like the ghost of Christmas future over here). Mentioned in this episode: Check out this post in our Forty Thrive FB group! Join the Forty Thrive Hive! Check out these reads by Forty Thrive guest authors! Get a FREE month of Audible HERE. Top 10 Lessons from (My First) 50 Years 1. You are not for everyone. This is something I tell my podcast students all the time. I actually tell my kids this all the time. It is okay if someone just does not prefer you. Just keep being yourself, showing up and doing you. Say it with me: I. AM. NOT. FOR. EVERYONE. The sooner and more often you remember this, you'll be given a sense of freedom no longer worrying or even wondering what everyone else thinks. 2. You're leaving a lot of progress on the table. I love my trainer, Joan. She's awesome. I see her three times a week. And when I'm there, we do all the sets and reps and what not that you'd expect from a training session. But one day, I noticed as she counted down three, two, one...I'd actually put the weights down on three. And then I started doing math. 3 seconds x 12 exercises per section times four (or five or six) sections, that equals 144 seconds at the very least. 144 seconds of a missed strength-building opportunity. Multiply that by three days, we're talking 432 seconds per week, almost 1900 seconds per month, that's almost 7500 seconds per year -- over two hours! It may not feel like a lot but when we give up too early, we're missing out on some serious progress. 3. You have everything it takes within you right now to do the thing you want. Unless you're going for a big degree that's necessary, you probably don't have to learn more. You don't have to be more. You don't have to wait until you've lost the weight or you've moved houses or whatever it is... you have everything it takes right now. So what are some really small steps you can take to get started? Stop putting things off until everything is aligned, because you know by this stage of your life, it's probably not going to happen that way. I meet women all the time through my work, the Forty Thrive community or even IRL (not online)...we're just constantly waiting until we are "enough" or at some magical place before we even get started. I just think it's time to let go of that whole idea and just know that whatever it is we want, let's just start small -- but start. Let's do the damn thing. 4. It's okay to change your mind -- and more than once. I've talked about this on the show for so long. Sometimes we have an idea; I want to be a teacher, or I want to work in television... I want to be a nurse or [insert idea here]. And then down the road, you're not really feeling it anymore. But many of us don't even consider that it's okay to divert from the original plan. If you decided when you were 30 that you wanted to live in a certain area and no longer want to live there, cool! It's okay! People evolve and change and our minds do too. I know I am not the same as I was when I turned 40 -- so much life has happened and I've had so many experiences. If I expect to want everything in my life at 50 that I wanted at 40, that will just lead to frustration and disappointment. Would you ever expect a 20 year old to want exactly what they wanted at 10 years old? That would be ridiculous. So don't do that to yourself. It's okay to change what you want and pivot into a new course. And if someone questions your decision, just let 'em know I said it's okay and to take it up with me. 5. You can make time for health or you can make time for illness. Read it again: You can make time for health or you can make time for illness. I know so many people, myself included, who have allllll the excuses we can't make time for health. No money... no time... other people come first. Listen, if you have money for three bottles of wine per week and time for Netflix or Candy Crush, you have time. And there are more free workouts online than ever before. Your excuses suck. It's time to put yourself first on the list. Fuel that mind, body and soul so you're the strongest, happiest human possible. 6. Move your body. This isn't about body building contests or the Peloton leaderboard, unless you're into that kind of thing. (There are huge benefits to strength training as we get older) Getting up and moving your body every day; walking the dogs, dancing in the kitchen. jumping on a trampoline, taking a sunset hike, walking the beach; whatever makes you feel good -- do that. Moving our bodies helps physically and mentally. We always talk about living longer, but it's very rare that we talk about living longer, better. Wouldn't you rather be that sassy mall walkin' granny than the one hunched over in the rocking chair? Same, girl. Same. 7. Take care of your skin. I really wish someone had drilled this into my head and shown mea crystal ball what my skin would look and feel like. My chest is like wrinkled tissue paper and at least once a year, I have something surgically removed from way too much sun exposure. Sunscreen, hats, glasses... they make moisturizers and lotions with sunscreen in them -- there are no excuses. There is absolutely no reason that we can't protect our skin. It's not too late, even for us, the baby oil and tanning mats generation. 8. Life is too short to sit in "what if?" Stop taking a passive role in your own life. There is something out there you've been wanting to do, it may be deep down (because we've been pushing stuff down order to take care of everybody else, haven't we?) but there's power in "what if?" It's an opportunity to ask yourself what you truly want. Don't just sit in it, use it for action. Use it for inspiration. Use it to move forward. You deserve what's next. 9. Love yourself as is, exactly as who you are right now, where you are right now. We have been programmed as women of this age and stage to only love ourselves if we are making a certain paycheck or we hit a certain number on the scale, or we're in the perfect romantic relationship, the mother of 2.2 kids and an Instagramable dog. No, no, no, no, no. You right now are the most lovable, incredible human ever exactly where you are and who you are. We are no longer going to listen to that BS programming that we have to achieve or accomplish something for us to be of value. I can't say this enough. You are incredible and amazing and beautiful and lovable and valuable. Right now as yourself. Exactly where you are. 10. It is not too late. If you are reading this right now, you are breathing. You are living. You are here for a purpose. If you are approaching 40, 50, or even 80, it doesn't matter. If you have a dream or a goal (or a thought or a wish or something you want to try), it is not too late. It's not too late to build that business. It's not too late to run that race. It's not too late to volunteer with that organization or travel the world. When we look at these things in front of us, they seem so daunting and overwhelming. "Oh, I can't do that. It's too late for me." There are likely people much older than you (possibly even with less talent, skill and opportunity than you have) doing incredible things. When you use the excuse that it is too late, that you're too old, all you're doing is letting yourself off the hook and setting yourself up for regret. Listen, you will never be as young as you are today and you will never be as capable as you are today. It's a fact. Everything you've ever wanted is right there in front of you. Are you ready to go for it?

As we wrap up the year, I’ve got an episode for you that’s short, sweet and impactful. Janet Ioli is the author of Less Ego More Soul: A Modern Reinvention Guide for Women and the creator of 2021 Power Presence Practices calendar journal. Both of which she’s generously giving away to one of our lucky Forty Thrive listeners. Have you ever seen those posts where people choose a word that sort of serves as their compass for the year to come? I love choosing a word each December . Something that inspires me to try new things and have new experiences. My word for 2020 was Connection. Little did I know that circumstances would make that a little bit more difficult. But it was a great reminder when things got crazy that I could still create connection, it just might look a little different. My word for 2021 is CURIOSITY. My plan is to come from a place of curiosity. To hear people out. To discover things about myself that I maybe haven’t yet tapped into. What’s one word you’ll carry into 2021? Pop into our free and private FB group and share in the dedicated post I created there. In fact, when you comment on that post, you’ll be entered to win both Janet’s book, Less Ego More Soul, as well as her 2021 Power Presence Practices calendar and journal. “I started to make choices and they would work out. Some of them -- if you looked at them on paper -- you're like, 'Are you really going to do that? It doesn't seem like the most reasonable choice.' But they would work out. And if they didn't, I'd make a new choice. I started to get the confidence that no matter which direction I went, it was going to be okay because I could adjust.” Adjusting with life is a necessary part of enjoying it. But Jackie MacDougall takes it a step further: She helps women THRIVE. Her specialty? Women in their 40's and up. Have the last two months taught you anything about yourself or shed light on something going on in your life? I asked this question to the Forty Thrive community and the answers were profound. Today, I highlight two of our community members who have come together to connect us all through storytelling and the human experience. Kim Lamontagne is a certified speaker and state trainer in the “In Our Own Voice” program through the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) New Hampshire chapter. Kim is also a NAMI NH support group facilitator and a certified teacher in the Family to Family program. Pam MacDougall is an Emmy-winning writer/producer and chief visual storyteller at Promission Productions, where they believe doing good is good business. Together, Kim and Pam have created Wall of Hope: Voices of Gratitude, a Facebook community that celebrates the humanity, strength, and selflessness of doctors, nurses, healthcare workers, first responders, military personnel, farmers, maintenance workers, and so many more, who are putting our well-being ahead of their own. They share their story of serving others and creating a positive space for people during this time in history.
As we approach mothers day 2020, I wanted to take the opportunity to talk with three of the most important humans in my life — my sons. As a family, we’ve been through a lot over the years… health issue, special needs, adoption challenges are just a few. I don’t want to dive too far into any of it out of respect for their privacy. Also, I call each of my kids by their first initial, per the request of one of my kiddos. Speaking of privacy, I asked the ladies in the Forty Thrive community if they could ask their kids one question — that they’re actually afraid to learn the answer to — what question would it be? From sex to drugs to parenting mistakes… the community certainly has some questions. No matter what you ask your teens, grown adult kids or littles, this time together could be a perfect opportunity to connect. Grab a phone or recording device and ask them questions. Tell them about you… see how you’re alike and different. Whatever happens here on out, we’ll never get this time back. What a gift it could be to you, your kids and future generations to learn more about you and who you were in this ever changing world. Welcome to this special episode of Forty Thrive. What makes it so special? Well I’m glad you asked. First of all, April 2, 2020 is my 49th birthday. That’s right, it’s my last year in my 40s. To celebrate, I invited five incredible women on to the podcast for this episode. These women are resilient…they’re smart… they take no BS… and they are like sisters to me. Actually they’re more than like sisters to me, they are my sisters. To give you some context to the conversation you’re about to hear... The six of us also have 7 brothers — so yeah, there are 13 of us in total. There were 11 kids originally when my mom died from breast cancer at the age of 39. She’s the mother of the first 5 sisters you’ll hear from today, I was the baby. Two of us — including myself — carry the genetic mutation that led to our mother’s cancer. My dad remarried a little while later and they had two more kids. That’s where girl #6 comes in. Are you following? So you’ll hear from six women ranging from 42-64; kickass women who work hard, crack inappropriate jokes and who have experienced a whole lot of life between us. Here’s a little cheat sheet. — Two of my sisters are now sober — One of them stayed sober even after experiencing the tragic and sudden loss of her 30 year old daughter in a car crash — One of my sisters is currently fighting glioblastoma, an incurable brain cancer that she’s been battling for over two and a half years. — Our father died four years ago from Alzheimers. This was after suffering from rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes for decades. He was the strongest, biggest personality we’ve ever known and I’m willing to say, the most influential human being in all of our lives. –– We were raised in the suburbs of Boston. They all live in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. I live 3000 miles away in California. –– We recorded this with a studio audience — okay, not really… but we did have some family members sitting nearby and heckling at times. Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE to Forty Thrive wherever you listen to podcasts!
At this point of the game, couldn't we all use a little lighthearted laughter? I invited comedian Tammy Pescatelli into the free and private Forty Thrive community for a chat I thought you'd enjoy. You may know Tammy from Last Comic Standing, the new Showtime special More Funny Women of a Certain Age or on talk shows like The Tonight Show, The Talk and The View. Tammy was also the star of A Stand Up Mother on WETV, which was all about her life as a mom, wife and comic. Download Tammy Pescatelli's Way After School Special on... Apple Amazon Vimeo Vudu
Angela Chee’s mission is to help people break through their barriers, step into the spotlight and live their legacy. Now she’s highlighting those people in her brand new — and soon to be wildly successful — podcast the Power of the Only. We talk the evolution of women, how fear presents itself when we’re over 40 (vs when we were younger) and getting comfortable with our own voice, in whatever life’s season we find ourselves in. If you’ve ever felt like “the only” — the only woman, the only person of color, the only anything… in your work, community or family… I think this episode — and Angela’s message — will resonate deeply. Speaking of resonating deeply… a few days back I shared three key ways to support Forty Thrive and help me to build a team of women over 40 in creating more resources for YOU. Welcome to another episode of Thrive in 40, a quick tip to kickstart your week, in 40 seconds or less. In this episode, creative coach, midlife mentor and founder/host of Forty Thrive, Jackie MacDougall, shares a life lesson she learned from a pair of seagulls. Recently a popular '80s band was playing nearby so a flock of us decided to go. It’s been 30 something years since their heyday and you could certainly feel it. In fact, they played one of their popular songs a second time because they kind of bombed the first time. But what stood out to me most was that they showed up anyway; they didn’t say, "Oh no one will come" or use their age as an excuse. Not only was the room packed at the end of the concert, people were lined up to meet them to buy an overpriced bobble head. This is a lesson in not overthinking it, or comparing yourself to a younger version; just do the damn thing you want to do because life‘s too short to let it pass you by. Why is Gwyneth Paltrow and Goop so polarizing? We’ll hear two very different opinions about the brand. Plus, one of Goop Guides go-to healers is here in the Forty Thrive studio. Not only do we discuss the brand new Goop Lab on Netflix (spoiler: I share my own opinion on episodes 1-3), but we dive deeper into what’s really happening when we claim to be supporting each other as women. Plus, my big, fat mess up. I totally call myself out. If you are part of our free and private community, I’m sure you saw the post recently about Gwyneth Paltrow’s new Netflix show, Goop Lab. The website's been in existence for over a decade but the Netflix show just launched and is definitely getting people talking. I asked a simple question, “How do you feel about group in three words or less?“ • Overpriced vagina candle • Snake oil con woman • Vile elitist pseudoscience These were just a few of the comments that were flowing in soon after posting. But not everyone was hopping on the anti-Goop bandwagon. There were actually plenty of women who shared quite positive opinions. • Optimizing your life • Interesting, relevant, refreshing One woman shared, "She's innovative and pushing the envelope, whether you agree with her or not." Dr. Suzanne Gilberg Lenz, OB/Gyn and Advocate for Women's Integrative Health, weighs in, calling Goop "a wolf in sheep's clothing." Guest: Stacey Justis, professional intuitive tarot card reader and energy healer. She is also is certified in Hypnotherapy, past life regression, EFT and Reiki. Goop Guide calls her “Refreshingly laid-back and smart, equal parts straight-up psychic and intuitive life coach.” Stacey helps private clients and groups connect with spirit through her energy work and collaborates with them to guide them to their own personal power and supports truly transformative healing. She provides insight as well as practical tools to achieve goals. She is a conduit for the journey of self-discovery and delivers messages, helps heal emotional wounds and fears, and even unlocks reasons for unexplained physical pain. Stacey is devoted to empowering her clients to create the lives they’ve always wanted and realize their true purpose and potential. Thriver of the Week! Julie Neale, founder / host of A Mother's Quest podcast and community. My 40's have been a time in my life that I like to refer to as my mid-life renaissance. My life is far from perfect, but I'm seizing the opportunity to embrace who I am, share my voice, and have an impact in ways that I did not until this stage of my life. Congratulations, Julie! What's a guy's biggest fear after turning 40? What does he think women are really going through? In this Forty Thrive Podcast episode with Rick Clemons, the guy behind the "no excuses, no fears, no apologies" movement and the host of the 40 Plus: Real Men. Real Talk Podcast, as well as the Life Uncloseted Podcast, we asked our own audiences over 40 (his male community and Forty Thrive's female community) the very same questions and come together to uncover some answers that may surprise you! Join us as we discuss everything from our biggest fears to how men and women can come together and thrive at 40 and beyond! More About Rick: Over the past 20 years he’s been helping people and organizations get real about the suffocating closets they live in and he has the distinct pleasure of lovingly kicking them in the ass to make their bold moves without apologies – personally and professionally. From leadership to creativity, sexuality to parenting, and truth telling to living by your own rules, his motto is “Bust a bold move. Live life your way!” He’s survived raising two daughters (thus the bald head), broken two world records, and once upon a time did something unbelievable at a whorehouse in Texas. Starting over is nothing new for the ladies in the Forty Thrive community. New careers, new cities, new relationships and so many other big changes are taking shape. Diann Wingert is no stranger to starting over. The former therapist turned life coach recently uprooted her entire southern California life for a new adventure in Portland, Oregon. Hear what she thinks are the three things every woman over 40 must know and do before making a huge, life-altering change. Mentioned in this episode: Midlife Crisis or Midlife Awakening? Change Your Mindset, Change Your Life About Diann Wingert After two decades of being a successful therapist, Diann changed walked away from her private practice to become a masters level certified coach, helping women over 40 ditch their excuses, discover their courage and go after their most audacious goals. Diann passionately believes that this stage of life is the most powerful, if we are willing to let go of whatever is holding us back. Diann’s powerful combo of expertise on the midlife brain and menopause, coupled with her own unique personal experience makes her the go-to resource for women 40+. Personally, since turning 40, Diann has gotten divorced, raised her three children to adulthood, embraced Buddhism, traveled the world, gone skydiving, studied German, remarried and became a first time entrepreneur. From gray hair to menopause, Jackie and Dr. Suzanne Gilberg Lenz talk choices that can help you thrive in midlife and beyond. Plus, your common questions answered: What exactly is peri-menopause? How do you know menopause is about to happen? What kinds of changes can you expect? What kind of impact will it have on your sense of well being? About Dr. Suzanne Gilberg Lenz I’m a hard-core science nerd with a deep respect for the holistic approach to health and life. Believe it or not, there is a science to self-care! After earning my medical degree at Southern California School of Medicine and completing my residency at Cedar-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, I wanted to expand my knowledge beyond conventional medicine. In 2010 I graduated from California College of Ayurveda as a Clinical Ayurvedic Specialist, which has truly expanded and informed my practice of medicine. Being able to integrate this incredible ancient healing tradition has been a game changer and allowed me to go deeper into the study of health and healing. As more “natural” solutions, medicines, and technologies emerge in the global marketplace, I find myself referring back to Ayurveda- the original lifestyle medicine, which incorporates the mind, body, and spirit. Jackie MacDougall, fellow midlife podcaster, and I had a really honest conversation. We talk about the mixed messaging women hear, how she feels about aging, and about our shared passion in elevating women’s voices in midlife. We also talk about why it’s important to open your heart and mind to others, and what is the hardest question we need to ask ourselves. Finally, Jackie answers what it means to thrive in your 40s – which might not mean what you think it does. The conversation turns to podcasting and Jackie not only pushes me, which I truly appreciate, but opens up about how her own insecurities bubble up to the surface. She even gets me to admit how I worry about my voice and presence, which is not easy for me to do. Jackie MacDougall worked for over two decades in TV and digital marketing, creating content for women with some of the most recognizable and innovative names in entertainment like Queen Latifah, Harry Connick Jr., Tyra Banks, Chrissy Teigen, and Sharon Osbourne. Jackie combines her personal and professional experience in finding her purpose, helping women over 40 find their voice and build their tribe through podcast coaching, live events, and online programs. She is the founder of Forty Thrive and host of the Forty Thrive podcast and lives in the Los Angeles area with her husband and three kids. I will let you know how to connect with Jackie in the show notes, which you can find at www.fortiesstories.com. I hope you’ll check out her podcast Forty Thrive. Jackie and I cannot remember how we met, but we do remember that we dig each other a lot. We are both on a mission to unleash women. Jackie is doing it through her company Forty Thrive (link to website) via Forty Thrive podcast (live link here), community and workshops. She is curious, delightful, and vulnerable lady. Have a listen and subscribe. Jackie is Founder & CEO of Forty Thrive bringing her wisdom from over two decades in TV and digital marketing, creating content for women with some of the most recognizable and innovative names in entertainment like Queen Latifah, Harry Connick Jr., Tyra Banks, Chrissy Teigen and Sharon Osbourne to help women launch themselves. Now instead of just creating content for others to market to women, she taps into her own personal insight and voice to connect with women — online and in person — helping each find their voice and use it in an authentic way. She can also help you start your own podcast. Thank you Jackie for being of service to better the world. That's just excellent.

This summer on the Forty Thrive podcast, we're focusing on our bodies and how to look and feel our absolute best. No better time than the present to get that started! Alicia Schoroth is the owner of HERPowerlifestyle.com a platform that provides effective online programs for fitness, weight loss, and wellness with a focus on hormone balance. Click here to download... In this episode, we talk: • How our bodies react to exercise differently as we age. Are you feeling frustrated with the lack of results; caught in a cycle of over-exercising, creating stress and perpetuating the lack of results. • How to feel better today than you did in your 20s. Alicia started bodybuilding competitions in her 40’s simply to show women what we are capable of in fitness and how important mindset is. • How to shift from eating from foods for weight loss to foods for hormone balancing - (psst: this actually leads to weight loss anyway) Eating for hormonal health makes weight loss and muscle growth possible. About Alicia Schoroth: Alicia left a 15-year career in the finance world, after the birth of her son. When she was 41, she founded HER Power Lifestyle to help other women achieve their health and fitness goals. She wanted to provide a program that addresses what others haven’t in the past. She combines her knowledge from her own personal struggles and expertise on hormones and women’s changing nutritional requirements and reaction to stress and exercise as they age. Alicia is a certified trainer, Certified Health & Nutrition Coach, Certified Hormone Specialist, Certified Culinary Nutrition Expert, Fitness Nutritionist & holds other fitness certifications including Pilates and Level 1 Kickboxing. To prove that we cannot be limited by our age and there is power in our mindset, Alicia decided to enter her first body fitness competition at the age of 42. In her first 2 years of competing, she earned five top 5 finishes and four 1st place finishes. Last year at the age of 45, she captured 3 Pro Cards (defeating women half her age) Alicia is also a published Fitness Model, and regular contributor to women’s fitness magazines. She was named in the FAB 40 over 40 by D’FYNE Fitness magazine.
This week’s guest is author of The Naked Truth, Leslie Morgan. If you’re looking for a summer read that’s got grit, a point of view and gets a weeee bit (a lot) racy, this one’s for you. In the Naked Truth, Leslie shares her story of finding herself — and a whole lot of men — after ending a 20-year-marriage. But my conversation with Leslie is about so much more than sex. Leslie shares what was happening in her marriage (I think a whole lot of women can relate) and how she felt stuck — just shy of turning 50. While the answer for her might not be the same for you, I think there are so many thought-provoking nuggets in this interview. Click here to download... It’s been 25 years since Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown were murdered. Every year on June 12th, networks, 24-hour news channels and social media outlets quote Kim Goldman in short soundbites meant to captivate listeners and viewers, not to share the real story of those who continue to live with the impact of the murders. This year is different. Kim – who some of you may also know as my co-host of a previous podcast I hosted – is taking her story into her own hands, launching a brand new podcast you definitely want to listen to. In confronting OJ Simpson, Kim sits down with prosecutors, investigators, and witnesses who never got to speak and jurors who voted not guilty. In this 10-part series, Kim takes you on a journey as she reclaims and reflects on the part of her life that was changed permanently. Kim is an advocate, a speaker and a multiple NY Times best selling author. But most of all, I’m honored to call her my friend. Click here to download... In this episode: Kim reveals the catalyst for launching the podcast Who she speaks to in the 10-episode series The people who surprised her along the way The witness we never heard from during the case The ultimate goal behind the podcast (it's not what you may think) What it means to her to Forty Thrive and how she embraces life over 40 Subscribe to Confronting OJ Simpson on your favorite podcast app and connect with Kim on Instagram at ConfrontingPod and Twitter at KimEGoldman.
Every once in a while you meet someone who stops you in your tracks and forces you to take notice. That's what happened to me when I first met Jennifer Tracy. Jen was a guest at The Self Care Project, an event I co-hosted in late 2018. Here I was, standing on the stage, watching the ladies in front of me receive all of the gifts our incredible speakers were sharing. Jennifer was light a ray of light, embracing the day like no one else. I knew I needed to meet this woman and hear her story. Well you are in for a real treat! In this first-time-ever pod swap, the Forty Thrive podcast is being hosted by Jennifer Tracy, host of the MILF podcast. And yes, that also means you should head over to the MILF podcast and listen to this week's episode, hosted by yours truly! Special Event Jennifer Tracy presents her breakthrough podcast, MILF Podcast (that’s Moms I’d Like to Follow) in front of a live audience. Jennifer welcomes several of her MILF guests on stage to openly riff about sex after kids and, well, just sex. There will be bawdy-ness, there will be sexy-ness, and mostly there will be milf-y-ness. Oh, and also some pole dancing. What? Did you really think there wouldn’t be? Come on! Special guests to be announced prior to event. Doors 7:00 | 18+ General Admission Tickets: $20 Advanced / $25 Day Of Show* Lineup subject to change | No item minimum | No late entry TICKETS ARE NON-TRANSFERRABLE | We do NOT honor tickets through third party sellers *Day of show tickets based on availability. If an event is sold out online, there will be no tickets available at the door unless otherwise posted on our socials. About Jennifer Tracy Telling women’s stories is at the heart of everything I do. The rich, complex, and sometimes messy lives we lead as women allow us to birth remarkable stories and experiences. And those are the stories that heal us and connect us to one another. We need that more than ever. There is no “village” to raise our kids. We create the village; on the internet; in our kids’ schools. Within these communities, we find the antidote to feeling profound isolation. Providing listeners with the conversations on MILF podcast is a way for me to help mitigate that isolation for moms in all stages of motherhood. At least for one hour. I never felt so alone as when I was first home from the hospital, by myself with my newborn, and I was certain that I was already failing. No one was telling me that, but no one was there to tell me that I wasn’t. I needed support. I didn’t have it. I didn’t know how to ask for support. This is ultimately why I created the MILF Podcast, it’s why I’m a novelist, and it’s why I’m driven to bring women together to create powerful connection and community with them. (I also like to push boundaries of societal norms and what is “appropriate” for women’s roles, which is why I chose the acronym MILF as the name of the show. Not only did I want to turn MILF (and its original definition) on its head, reclaiming and redefining our sexuality as women with children, but I also had a deep desire to embolden femininity in its most powerful form (creating and sustaining life through our divine sexual bodies) and the fierce strength of that which translates to so many other creative forms. I’ve also learned everything I know about motherhood by literally Following other Moms who paved the way before me or alongside me. Much of my formative years were spent as a film student in Boston, France, and Australia, and then I moved to Los Angeles to work as an actress. I pressed pause on that path when I became a mother. After giving birth to my son in 2009, I used writing as a form of survival and therapy, exploring motherhood, postpartum depression, and its struggles. Telling my story in essays and articles online ultimately inspired me to write my first novel which ultimately led to working with other writers who are finding their voices in story which then led to starting this podcast and hearing the stories of brilliant women I’d love to follow every week who are also figuring out how to balance motherhood and their creative lives as entrepreneurs, artists, and badass women! In this very special edition of MILF Podcast, Jennifer is switching roles to become the interviewee. She shares stories from her early life that shaped her into the woman she is today, including a moment of realization in her early thirties that gave her clarity on life. If you've followed online marketing expert Amy Porterfield for more than five minutes, you know she's constantly tossing out actionable tips and online strategies -- it's her superpower. But as a regular listener of Amy's podcast, I felt something shift in her several months ago. How she showed up on her show started to feel... well, different. I wondered... is it because she's now over 40? Did she have a coach or confidante pushing her in this new direction? Was she tired of hiding behind who she thought she should be, instead of who she really is? Yes, yes, and yes. Amy shares the pivot she's taken in her life, both in front of the camera and behind it. Plus, hear how her friends called her out for being one Amy privately, and another when showing up in business. Click here to download... Amy Porterfield is an online marketing expert and host of the top-ranked business podcast, Online Marketing Made Easy. But before the multiple 7-figure revenues and 250,000+ loyal subscribers…she was a self-proclaimed corporate “yes” girl. She shares how the time she took notes (at a separate table, mind you) for personal development guru Tony Robbins and a table full of men working in marketing that she discovered she wanted a piece of the action. But it wasn't all smooth sailing when Amy decided to break out on her own. It wasn't until she built a successful business filled with consistent clients that she realized she actually haaaaated what she was doing and made a pivot. That brings us today when she's killing it in the online game and even expanding her team and creating big goals for the future. Plus, Amy shares what "Forty Thrive" means to her. Random Amy facts: • She authored one of those big yellow “Dummies” books all about Facebook. • She was named by Forbes as one of the Top 50 Social Media Power Influencers • She can’t get enough of The Real Housewives. • She's embarrassingly obsessed with her dog, Scout. • And she can be found playing Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin” on repeat.

Let's talk about mentorship and why it's so important for women over 40 to work with a mentor. If you're like millions of women in midlife, you think you're supposed to be able to do it all alone -- raise kids, eat healthy, work out, balance a full time job... we put so much pressure on ourselves to be able to live, learn and grow without ever reaching out to someone who can help us get there. Today's episode is brought to you by my live workshop, coming up in just a few weeks! Are you ready to Find Your Voice and Build Your Tribe through podcasting? Get more info and register HERE. Click here to download... It's time to flip the script on this flying solo thing, ladies. Meet Elsie Escobar, my personal mentor and one of the most honest, thought-provoking Thrivers I know. If you're a woman over 40, there's a good chance you saw the recent NY Times piece entitled Puberty for the Middle Aged. In it, writer Lisa Selin Davis compares peri-menopause to puberty in a way that has women talking, sharing and tweezing their facial hair. I invited Lisa onto the show to discuss the piece and why it resonates so strongly with women in midlife. What I didn't expect was the story behind the story where Lisa was badgered (and ultimately ostracized) by a community of her peers. Click here to download...
