In this episode, Rina and Lauren talk with New Yorker and lawyer, Rachel Pears about her experience as a 'sandwich carer'. The “sandwich generation” is defined as those who are caring for both elderly parents and their own dependent children. Rachel, an only child living in London, describes the challenges of caring for her 8 year old daughter Amelia who has a rare genetic condition, at the same time as becoming designated carer for both her parents in New York. As Rachel puts it, she felt like she was competing in the caring olympics, but without any time for training! Rachel eventually faced burnout and had to take time out and relook at how she juggled and prioritised everyone's needs, including her own, differently. It is a heart-warming and beautiful discussion, which covers the pain of dementia and value of being in the moment, to finding your own village and enjoying a cheesy New York pizza!Content WarningsGrief and parental lossDementiaParkinson'sCancerDiagnosisGuest BiographyRachel lives in London with her husband, Peter, their daughter, Amelia, and their two cats, Rosie and Brother Cat (both affectionately named by Amelia). Cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide. People living in countries affected by conflict and war, as well as those in politically, socially, and economically fragile countries, experience worse cancer outcomes compared to more stable regions. Conflict and war result in displacement, destruction of physical infrastructure and supply chains, and the breakdown of healthcare systems. As a result, preventive measures and crucial health screenings often do not take place. For example, Sudan, which was once a hub for cancer care, has seen its healthcare facilities and access to treatment disrupted due to war and conflict. One individual working to address this issue is Dr. Susie Stanway, a cancer specialist and guest of the Purposely Podcast. After a successful career as a consultant oncologist, Susie shifted her focus to becoming a cancer advocate and activist for countries affected by conflict. She has played a crucial role in connecting fragile countries to funding and cancer resources, including treatment, doctors, and research. Motivated to bring about global change, Susie co-founded London Global Cancer Week, a series of meetings that provide a comprehensive understanding of the rising global incidence of cancer, the challenges posed by the cancer pandemic, and the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on existing cancer treatment and research. These meetings also focus on strengthening cancer prevention and control in emerging countries, with a particular emphasis on the UK's contribution. Susie recognised that to bring about real change, she needed to go beyond the cancer world and influence people worldwide to understand the issue and help solve the problems. As a result, she collaborated with musicians to create a single titled 'More Than Fairy Tales,' which aims to raise funds for cancer care in war-torn Ukraine and Sudan. The money raised will be directed to the Challenge Fund, which supports organizations working on the ground to provide cancer care in these countries. Musicians from around the world, including Sudanese and Ukrainian singers, as well as English singer-songwriter Newton Faulkner, 19-year-old singer-songwriter and producer Jasmine Foxall, and British rapper Blackk Chronical, have come together to release this single as part of a campaign to support those in need of cancer care in war zones. More about Dr. Susie Stanway: Dr. Susannah Stanway is a consultant medical oncologist in London, specializing in breast cancer. She founded and chaired the steering group of the “Cancer control in low- and middle- income countries” conference held annually since November 2016 that in 2019 became London Global Cancer Week. She has co-founded the UK and Ireland Global Cancer Network. She teaches in the UK on global oncology (for example on the ICR MSc Course, UCL Global Health MSc and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine on the Diploma of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene Course) and internationally. She has received awards from the Global Challenges Research Fund to collaboratively contribute to research projects in sub-Saharan Africa. She sits on the ECO inequalities network and has historically been on the ESMO global policy committee. She is currently working with colleagues in several low- income countries and conflict zones to contribute to capacity building. She has recently studied Public Policy Analysis at the London School of Economics. Alongside reducing between-country cancer outcome inequalities she has interest in reducing within-country inequalities in the UK for example sitting on Breast Cancer now Inequalities Funding Committee, contributing to the recently published Health Policy Partnership toolkit (Inclusion by design: building equity in clinical trials through the lens of metastatic breast cancer) and advocating. She sits on the Development Board of Breast Cancer Now. Source: London Global Cancer Week website --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/mark-longbottom2/message

Today we're going to talk about the people behind the flats and apartments we live in – the people building our homes that is. Construction firms, as we know, have been hit by supply chain disruptions and a manpower crunch during the pandemic. While things are looking up as work resumes and supply chain bottlenecks ease, industry players continue to face challenges such as working with pre-pandemic contracts that do not account for higher material costs. So how are construction companies navigating choppy waters, and how are they adjusting their business strategy to remain financially viable? Let's pose these questions to our guest Straits Construction. Starting small in 1969, Straits Construction is a builder that got its first breakthrough in 1982, when it built its first Housing and Development Board of HDB project at Serangoon Avenue 4. Since then, the firm has taken on more public and private projects. Some past projects include the Royal Square at Novena, which houses Courtyard by Marriot Hotel. On Under the Radar, Drive Time's finance presenter Chua Tian Tian caught up with Kenneth Loo, Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer, Straits Construction Singapore for more.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

jQuery(document).ready(function(){ cab.clickify(); }); Original Podcast with clickable words https://tinyurl.com/2hwfg78b Contact: irishlingos@gmail.com Cost of New Children's Hospital Costas Ospidéal Nua na Leanaí 'os cionn €2bn'. The cost of the New Children's Hospital may end up being over €2bn. Is féidir go mbeidh costas an Ospidéil Nua Leanaí os cionn €2bn sa deireadh. That's what David Gunning, Chief Officer of the National Pediatric Hospital Development Board, (NPHDB) told the Oireachtas Joint Health Committee this morning, when he warned that the cost could be even higher and there could be further delays to the proposal if -the contractor will change manners. Sin é a d'inis David Gunning, Príomhoifigeach Bhord Forbartha an Ospidéil Náisiúnta Phéidiatraicigh, (NPHDB) do Comhchoiste Sláínte an Oireachtais ar maidin, nuair a thug sé foláireamh go bhféadfadh an costas bheith níos airde fós agus tuilleadh moille bheith ar an togra mura n-athróidh an conraitheoir béasa. The committee also heard that less than 1% of the rooms that were supposed to be finished by now, have been finished. Chuala an coiste freisin go bhfuil níos lú ná 1 faoin gcéad de na seomraí a bhí ceaptha bheith críochnaithe faoi seo, críochnaithe. The increase in cost relates to a claim made by the contractor, BAM, for an additional fund of €756m. Baineann an t-ardú sa chostas le héileamh atá déanta ag an gconraitheoir, BAM, ar chiste breise €756m. Out of a total of 2,175 claims, €573m relates to 16 of those claims. As 2,175 éileamh san iomlán, baineann €573m le 16 de na héilimh sin. Said that those 16 claims from BAM seek compensation for a delay of 2,376 days that BAM is imposing on the Development Board of the National Pediatric Hospital. Dúirt go bhfuil na 16 éileamh sin ó BAM ag lorg cúiteamh as moill 2,376 lá atá BAM ag leagan ar Bhord Forbartha an Ospidéil Náisiúnta Phéidiatraicigh. The proposal was to be completed by August 2022. Bhí an togra le bheith tugtha i gcrích faoi Lúnasa 2022. These latest bills would see the cost of the building itself at up to €2.2bn, excluding the cost of commissioning the hospital. D'fheicfeadh na billí deireanacha seo costas an fhoirgnimh féin ag teach suas le €2.2bn, gan costas choimisiúnaithe an ospidéil le cur san áireamh. If these demands are accepted, they will be added to the €1.43bn budget, of which €1.35bn has been spent so far. Má ghlactar leis an héilimh seo, cuirfear iad leis an mbubbhuiséad €1.43bn, as a bhfuil €1.35bn caite go dtí seo. BAM now says the new center will not be completed until mid-2024. Deir BAM anois nach mbeidh an t-ionad nua críochnaithe go dtí lár 2024. David Gunning said his team of experts are inspecting '4 air-conditioned grills in 11 of the 12 theatres' after reports they did not meet standards. Dúirt David Gunning go bhfuil dá fhoireann saineolaithe ag iniúchadh '4 ghril aerádaithe in11 de na 12 obrádlann' tar éis tuairiscí nar bhain siad caighdeáin amach.

Singapore shares started the day on a softer note despite overnight gains on the global market. We are back for another great interview in our Entelechy Series. In today's episode, we chat with Geeta Sidhu Robb. She is an Author, Speaker, Life Coach, CEO & Founder Nosh Detox. She also sits on the board of a Montessori group and is the Chair of Women's Development Board, a Microloan Foundation a women's empowerment and poverty alleviation charity supporting women in Southern Africa. Geeta's story starts when she was very successful but suddenly she lost everything and had to start her life from scratch. This included having to live with her friend as she looked for a new job. That was where Geeta started https://noshdetox.com/ (noshdetox.com) which is an organic food and juice program delivery business back in 2008. As a business leader and a charity chair, Geeta believes in living & leading from her purpose. Standing up for what you believe in and having the courage to change the course of the river. As the chair of Microloan Foundation, Geeta says that the benefits of empowering one woman has a ripple effect in that she uses the resources to grow her family, and benefit the community at large. She says that the moment we start to see the world as a community, then we are able to contribute to not just cases in the developing world but right where you are in your neighborhood. Geeta encourages corporates to have more compassion and not just take resources but remember that the priority is on the people who live in those communities where the resources are found. Her work in Montessori teaches children to grow at their own pace so that they don't feel wrong about not growing at someone else's pace. This eventually creates strong and stable adults. She is now scaling this model of teaching children to areas that have refugee children. In that way, breaking the vicious cycle of children who are faced with trauma and that's all they grow up knowing. In conclusion, Geeta says Change is inevitable and suffering is totally optional. So you must constantly work on yourself because you are the biggest impediment to your own growth. You can reach Geeta at: Geeta's Website: https://noshdetox.com/ (Nosh Detox) Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/geetasidhurobb/?hl=en (@geetasidhurobb) LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/geetasidhu/?originalSubdomain=uk (Geeta Sidhu Robb) Microloan Foundation:https://www.microloanfoundation.org.uk/ ( Microloan Foundation)
“The government and its housing agency are thus constantly, indeed permanently, engaged in acts of balancing competing demands.” This is the situation that the Housing & Development Board, which builds public, owner-occupied housing for the vast majority of Singapore's citizens and permanent residents, has created for itself. And they've been phenomenally successful at maintaining that balance: 85% of Singaporeans own a public housing unit — on a 99-year lease, not permanently — and prices for new homes have stayed relatively affordable for decades. What did it take to get there, where has Singapore's leadership fallen short along the way, and what lessons can be exported to other nations? Professor Chua Beng Huat of the National University of Singapore and Yale-NUS College gives us a detailed history of the small island nation's public housing program, and explains how a responsive government and a program of constant policy “patches” keeps it all running.

In 2006, Singapore's Housing and Development Board wanted to improve work processes and better support it's own mission. They enlisted the help of Accessway V2 Innovation & Quality Circle to help. Accessway V2 used the Lotus Blossom Technique to identify problems and solutions. They decided the problem with the most potential solutions would be the easiest to solve. This revealed that the tool to check accessible ramp gradients would be the easiest problem to solve. Also in 2006, at this time, Singapore's Ministry of National Development announce that the entire island would have to be fully barrier free by the year 2011. So, improving the tool to accurate measure the ramps made sense. The current tool, the dumpy level, was cumbersome, time consuming, and it was possible operators were not trained well to use it. After discussing, brain storming and product research, the Accessway V2 team determined that making a specialized tool would be best, and they were right. The Gradient Measuring Tool was developed. Not only did the new tool surpass the goals of the team, it was modified to be used in a number of other public works projects. https://asq.org/quality-resources/articles/case-studies/quality-tools-help-singapore-housing-and-development-board-develop-award-winning-new-product?id=521e70dea6e444f5830247e7a8794362 Learn more about #QualityMatters & Texas Quality Assurance :LinkedIn | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | YouTubewww.qmcast.com | Texas Quality Assurance

How many times from pregnancy to parenting do you feel like you are doing it all wrong? The truth is, we need to have open and honest conversations about the changes in our bodies as a result of carrying our babies. Often after childbirth, moms are forgotten and everyone is focused on the baby. Yes, that's wonderful but we are left feeling exhausted, in pain, and reeling from the birth experience. This episode is all about our bodies as women and our health after we have our beautiful babies. My wonderful guest, Wendy Powell, the founder of the MUTU system , talks about how our bodies change and what we can do about it! Many women experience urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, painful sex, and diastasis recti which can lead to embarrassment, anxiety, shame and lack of confidence. Wendy believes every woman deserves the dignity and pleasure of a body that works and feels good. She helps women, get their power back by supporting them through this time and teaching them how to build their pelvic floor and supporting them with a community of women so no mama has to face this alone. Wendy has also launched a campaign called #ByMySide, which is all about raising awareness of the importance of birthing partners during the pandemic. The campaign encourages women to take to social media to post a picture with their birthing partner alongside a message about how important they were. About Wendy Powell MUTU System was founded by mother of two Wendy Powell, a globally recognised leading voice on equality and empowerment for women’s health, with almost two decade’s experience in personal training. As the woman behind the best-selling online programme for mothers, trusted by over 70,000 women worldwide, Wendy is loved and recommended by specialist women’s health experts, surgeons, Hollywood celebrity trainers and their clients and even Royalty. The birth of MUTU System as a company stems from the births of Wendy's own children. It was the experience of a traumatic childbirth, which almost caused Wendy to lose her life, which would go on to reshape her entire career and give her a whole new perspective on what mothers have to deal with. Feeling physically and emotionally broken, powerless, useless at performing the most basic of female human functions, Wendy was left reeling from her childbirth experience. She realised that many women feel like this, hurried by well-meaning others to ‘get over it’ or move on. Many women struggle to see their beauty, strength and power. Whether it was recent or many years ago, and however it plays out, she knew that births stay with mothers and can leave them feeling battered, broken and disconnected. It was here that MUTU System was born. A service for mothers, much like herself, who become out of touch and feel as if they lack control of their own body. She built what she had needed, but couldn’t find. The company would go on to fill this void and provide tens of thousands of women across the world with a crucial support system to reconnect with themselves, physically and mentally. Today, Wendy is shifting the conversation on women’s bodies towards equality and empowerment for health, confidence and power. She is also on the Women’s Development Board of charity Microloan Foundation UK and works with medical professionals around the world to improve education, dignity and empowerment for mothers. About MUTU System MUTU System is a digital 12-module specialist core and pelvic floor programme for all mothers, proven to improve physical symptoms including urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, painful sex and diastasis recti which can lead to embarrassment, anxiety, discomfort and lack of confidence. Launched in 2009, MUTU System has a 94% success rate for clients feeling better in their bodies and the programme is backed by medical professionals. The concept is grounded in the belief that every woman deserves the dignity and pleasure of a body that works and that feels good. MUTU System is for all mothers whether expectant, new or experienced, safe to use during pregnancy, right after childbirth, and beyond. I’m not allowed to have favorite episodes and honestly, each one is pretty different. But my interview with Bud Isaacs is certainly one of my favorites. Mines grad, Vietnam vet, a career in oil and gas, lover of the outdoors, and most recently advocate for the water shed on the western slope. The co-authored book- “Oil and Water” is a fascinating dive into the world of water and what keeps 40 million Americans hydrated from the Colorado River. Water is THE crisis of the next 50 years and the book is a pretty powerful introduction to the concepts and thoughts around how society gets its water. Oh yeah, and he, his wife and most of his direct family had COVID in a February. Lots of learnings, insights and just a wonderfully enjoyable day for me to spend with Bud at his house. #hottakeoftheday podcast Episode 59 w/Bud Isaacs https://youtu.be/bsH5CDLiyOs Audio Podcast About Bud Vernon A. (Bud) Isaacs Mr. Vernon A. (Bud) Isaacs, Jr. graduated from the Colorado School of Mines in 1964 with a Professional Degree in Petroleum Engineering. Upon commissioning as a Second Lieutenant, Mr. Isaacs served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, including combat operations in Vietnam with 1st Brigade, 101st Airborne Division, receiving a number of Vietnamese combat ribbons, the Combat Infantry Badge, Silver Star, Bronze Star with Valor, and a Purple Heart for wounds suffered during combat. Following military service, Mr. Isaacs emerged as an industry leader in petroleum engineering. He held positions with Coquina Oil Corporation, Union Oil Company, and CALCO in drilling and production engineering as well as planning and property valuation. Mr. Isaacs joined Petrol-Lewis Corporation in 1976 and accepted a promotion to Senior Vice President of the corporation in 1981. In 1985, he founded V.A. Isaacs and Associates, Inc. to advise companies in the purchase and sale of oil and gas properties, and in 1989, established RIM Companies, a private oil and gas property management firm with production operations across the continental United States. Mr. Isaacs contributes significantly to the community as both a leader and volunteer, serving as the Director of Enduring Resources, LLC; a member and former distinguished lecturer of the Society of Petroleum Engineers; and previously as an Executive Board Member of the Independent Petroleum Association of Mountain States and Chairman of the Coalbed Methane Committee. He is a current member and past President of the Denver Chapter of the Society of Petroleum Evaluation Engineers. Mr. Isaacs has been an active volunteer of Boy Scouts of America and currently serves on its Executive Board. In addition, he is on the Board of Trustees for Denver Inner City Parish, the Development Board for Uplift, and serves as a Trustee for Alliance for Choice in Education. Welcome to this week's episode of The Mindset Mentor Meets Podcast which hears Angela interviewing Matthew Blagg, CEO at Criticaleye. About our guest A true entrepreneur, Matthew's experiences setting up businesses, advising firms on strategy and corporate development and sourcing senior executives for boards have shaped his role as CEO of Criticaleye. His acute understanding of the challenges facing today's leaders means he is well positioned to advise individuals in these roles. Matthew believes that executive collaboration needs careful framing and management so that senior executives get the most out of sharing information and ideas. He also thinks that in an increasingly complex landscape where leaders ‘don't know what they don't know', CEOs should be seizing the opportunity to learn and gain insight from the wider business community. Before Criticaleye, Matthew founded a strategic consulting firm. In this role, he advised firms across a diverse range of sectors, from venture capital to telecommunications, and took responsibility for the international operations of a UK listed business services company, establishing and maintaining its relationships across Europe, the Middle-East, Central Asia, North and Latin America. In 1990, he founded a successful mail order business which he sold in 1995. Matthew has extensive chairing experience having facilitated a variety of events on topics from strategy implementation to emerging economies. Recently, he has broadened these chairing skills to include the facilitation of intensive strategic sessions for the boards of leading UK organisations. He also continues to be a well respected sounding board for several Members within the Criticaleye Community, having established a trusted reputation for sharing both honest and practical insights. He is also a Member of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra's Development Board and a keen sportsman. About this show Matthew is just amazing. Angela loved this conversation and Matthew shares how he built and sold a business by the time he was 24 and went on to build a further 3 companies including his current one, Criticaleye. He believes working with people brings a richness to his life and being curious about people keeps him feeling full of life. He didn't go to university and describes himself as 'academically useless.' His exposure to all aspects of business from leaving school, has meant this hasn't mattered at all. He felt the fear in those early years and was often a swan swimming, yet this feeling of being uncomfortable has helped him build resilience that means new experiences don't phase him. He prides himself on not having a visible ego and believes hard work and facing insecurities has contributed to his success. This half hour really is a joy. For her solo show at the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe, Super Cally Fragile Lipstick, Cally received further 4 star reviews and won the Piccadilly Comedy Club "New Comedian Of The Year" 2017/8. Cally explains why she left her job as Vice President of Viacom, to pursue her career in public speaking and stand up comedy. She says that when reinventing yourself you can upsize rather than downsize, no matter what age you are. Cally explains why everyone who wants to perform should do their stint as a barista, or equivalent, in terms of a developing a work ethic. How marketing TV shows has given her instinct on how to market herself as a comedian and why perception is everything.Cally also breaksdown what NLP is and how her curiosity of people and the world led her to study it and the impact it’s had on her. Why she writes projects at the last minute and why it’s so important to turn up everyday, even when you’re not feeling creatively inspired. She tells the story of how a group of working builders inspired Seinfeld to stick with his stand up career, at the point he was thinking of giving up. We talk about our addictions to our phone's and Cally describes her experiences of the Hoffman process, a retreat where she was cut off from all technology for a week.Cally describes the experience of juggling being a single mother of two, with working full time and then becoming a stand up comedian. She breakdown the Eisenhower matrix and how she applies it to her time management and why time spent on the wrong thing, blocks you from allowing the right things or opportunities into your life. She talks about her debut Edinburgh Fringe Fesrival experience and the transition from being a TV exec, that everyone wanted at their party, to being a comedian that’s not getting to the same level of attention. We also discuss the struggle of dealing with Edinburgh Fringe, both emotionally and mentally. The Housing and Development Board's resale market remained robust in February despite experiencing a seasonal dip from January. The most expensive flat to change hands was a five room unit at Commonwealth Drive which sold for over $1 million dollars. The government has said that it is looking at measures to prevent social stratification in certain public housing estate areas. Nicholas Mak, Head of Research at ERA shares what these measures could look like.

When Singapore gained its independence they went on a mission to re-house the population from densely-packed thatched roof huts into giant concrete skyscrapers. In 1960, they formed the Housing and Development Board, or HDB, and just five years later they had already housed 400,000 people! In Singapore, where land is scarce, it’s not unlikely for apartment buildings to be built on top of land that was graveyards not too long ago. But building on top of a graveyard has its complications. Life and Death in Singapore

In this brief discussion, Mr Murangwe speaks on his excitement for Rwanda’s progress, including several leisure products coming on to the market and the Africa Hotel Investment Forum (AHIF) itself coming to Rwanda in 2016. Currently 9.1% of Rwanda’s GDP comes from travel and tourism - however the MICE strategy outlined in this podcast details how they hope to increase that. The discussion also moves towards the preservation and conservation of Rwanda’s fantastic natural wildlife, from Gorillas to Lions and how that attraction will tie into the growth of the MICE sector.
