In the SPaMCast 827, we will begin cracking groupthink in prioritization with a discussion of urgency vs. importance Evaluating the interplay between urgency and importance is a powerful work intake approach. Teams and project management offices regularly use an Eisenhower Matrix or variant to visualize the relationship between these two factors. The bottom line in this approach is that you should prioritize work that is important and urgent above work that is just urgent. We also have a visit from who brings her You Are Not Alone column to the podcast. Keis and I discuss the career path of a Scrum Master. Is there a career path or is the role a life avocation? Master Work Intake! Mastering Work Intake by and I hit the bookshelves earlier this year. We have also been running cohort-based workshops to help expose and solve this dirty little secret. Re-read Saturday News Chapter 2 of (buy a copy and read along) is titled “A Roadmap For The Journey.” In recent months, my wife and I have been beginning to travel in a class B van. We are taking short trips (learning the ropes) with longer trips in the offing. We rely on GPS a lot. I guess that's not very different from most travelers. However, the more we deviate from the heavily populated and traveled routes, the less ubiquitous and solid WiFi and cell coverage we find. GPS becomes somewhat unreliable. When the GPS is intermittent you must plan for it to be unreliable. We have discovered that we need an old-school paper map. For those of a certain age, a paper map provides turn-by-turn instructions via a static interface. It also provides a sense of the overall broad journey; an early version of a search albeit manual. Chapter 2 titled “A Roadmap For The Journey“ is a paper roadmap for the remainder of How To Be A Stoic. The Software Process and Measurement Cast 781 begins with a discussion of prioritization and sequencing. These two ideas often get conflated. Work might be important but if it has predecessors and successors it will require sequencing. You can't deploy a new piece of hardware unless you have it. The acquisition of the equipment comes before deployment. Not letting teams control or have input into sequencing has consequences. Let us discuss avoiding those negative outcomes. We also have a visit from Keis Kostaqi who returns with her You Are Not Alone column. Keis and I discuss the new Scrum Master that gets thrown to the wolves. Get a coach or risk being eaten? Re-Read Saturday News Chapter 8 is titled, The Enabling Play: Connect. This Chapter begins with the story of the Deepwater Horizon disaster. The disaster may have been avoided if a single button had been pushed. The button went unpushed until it was too late because the person did not have permission. Marquet states “How is it that a person could be more afraid of pushing a button without permission, than dying in a fiery explosion?” Hierarchy above all is a power play from the Industrial Age, a play that remains entrenched in corporate life. The term “values” comes up a lot these days, but I'm pretty dissatisfied with how surface level the conversations are around it. “Hire for values train for skill” “Core Values are the foundation of a strong culture” “They didn't align with our values” You get the gist. Now we can all agree values are extremely important and deep, but I always want to get behind the buzzwords and figure out what's really going on. Talvel kukuvad paljud libedatel teedel, vigastavad end ja satuvad traumapunkti. Ehkki seda juhtub sageli, on erakorralise meditsiini osakonna igapäevatöö tegeleda kõigi tervisemuredega, millega inimesed nende poole pöörduvad. Kukkumist tuleb ka kodustes tingimustes sagedamini ette vanemaealistel inimestel, koroonapiirangute tõttu on väljakutsete ja pöördumiste arv kahanenud vaid kahel korral, kui suur osa tegevustest ära jäeti või inimeste arvu piirati. Suveperioodil satuvad aga inimesed endiselt sagedamini traumapunkti mitmete vigastuste tõttu. Neil teemadel räägivad Tartu Ülikooli Kliinikumi EMO juhataja dr Annika Uue ja EMO arst dr Aime Keis.

The ultimate guide on recruitment: here is everything you need to know to hire your best employees! As your contracting business grows you're going to encounter an interesting and complex scenario (and you may have already) that you are recruiting for, and hiring, a role that you know very little about. Here's a classic example - you've expanded to the point where you're hiring for a dedicated full-time office manager. Someone who oversees all the complex administrative elements of your multimillion-dollar contracting business. You get (generally speaking) how you want things to look when it comes to business organization, but my question is do you fully understand the intricacies of managing a CRM, or a project management software? Have you ever managed five different inboxes while handling all the calls that are coming in? Have you ever developed all these office processes that make sure that no details get missed? Whether you've gone through this process or are about to, you can definitely see how hard it would be to successfully hire and onboard for this. Maybe that's why most contractors' first office manager is literally running out the door in the first six months. There are going to be dozens of roles like the example above as you expand. Whether it be a marketing manager or an executive assistant, the point is that you are going to run into this situation many times in your career and it's going to require you to educate yourself on these roles that you may not understand, but you desperately need. In this week's episode, we brought back Dr. Ken Keis to share his insights and thoughts on this topic. Dr. Keis has been on episodes in the past and is a foremost expert on Personality Styles and how they relate to leadership. In this episode Dr. Ken Keis shares: - The exact 5 step method that seasoned employers use to successfully hire for roles they don't understand. - The right way to research what responsibilities the new role will have (it's not Google). - Why it's a bad idea to copy and paste a job description from another company. - A process that allows you to select the right skills AND the right personality. - The big mistake that almost every employer makes when they first hire for a role they don't understand. - What you need in place before a new hire starts that fosters loyalty and eliminates frustration. Ved. Domantas Razauskas

Born and raised expected to take over his family's dairy farm, Ken is no stranger to radical change and growth. It wasn't until he owned a farm himself that he woke up one day at the crack of dawn (as usual) and asked himself, “if I did this for the next 20 years, would I be satisfied?” The answer was a resounding and immediate “NO!” Ken decided to take action. It was terrifying. But after an extremely awkward and intimidating conversation with his family–where he had to explain why he was breaking three generations of Eastern European family tradition–he began to pursue his passion in speaking and sales. Ken learned not to let fear hold him in a position where he would ultimately be miserable. It was the first step. Ten years as a sales trainer later, Ken found himself traveling worldwide as a speaker. At first it seemed like he was living the dream: highly sought after, hopping from country to country, bringing in a six-figure salary working for big names like Chrysler. Except that he never saw his wife or kids. And soon, the stress of never taking time off began to take its toll. Once again, Ken found himself in an unsustainable situation. He learned the hard way that what he values most is his family and health… and thankfully was able to make a change before it was too late. He became the leader of Consulting Resource Group, an organization that has helped more than 1 million people in 50,000 organizations worldwide improve employee satisfaction and productivity. Today, Ken's passion remains leading others to experience the same clarity and joy he did by creating a life of purpose, and empowering leaders to empower others. With more than 4 million written words, 10,000 hours of consulting and speaking experience, and co-authoring of 10 professional development tools, Ken has had a profound impact on the world's leadership landscape for the last 32 years.

Dr. Ken and I talk about his newest book, the power of operating with integrity and tons more!!! Coming from a place of victimhood is not a powerful place to be. All of us have stories that can help take others to the next level, no matter how old you are. Age brings insight, wisdom, and maturity. Along with a healthy diet of real food, have the mindset to not participate with illnesses like the flu. Ken Keis - Personality and Purpose What's your personality like? Today, we are discussing how your personality and your purpose effects your business team, customers, staff, and so on. Ken Keis is a bit of an expert when it comes to personality. He is keen to help others: "Increase [their] capacity to make a difference!" So then, how do you increase your capacity to make a difference? Personality and purpose in business It's a good question. Research on development is increasing on such things as mindfulness, self-awareness, emotional intelligence and so forth. Kens' business works on helping people to be conscious, awake and aware. In other words, self-aware. The real question is, what do we need and want? It's something we don't often have the answer to. Graham, Kevin and Ken have all come out of corporate and this question needs answering - what do you need and want? When you set up a small business, you set it up to serve your strengths and your purpose. This is calculated through asking this question of personal needs and wants. When Ken wrote the book, "why aren't you more like me", he was wondering how he could create a really deep awareness about "who I am, what my strengths are and then make intentional decisions on my business, my team and my vision". Click to buy the book. The idea is, you don't create a small business from a self-centred point of view but a self-honouring point of view. You play to your purpose. So, personality is one thing to think about as part of thinking "this business starts with me". Because really, your business is you and then you expand out from that and think what that means for everybody else. How do you hire the right people? How do you put the right people in the right seats, doing the right things? Another thing to think about is the personalities of who you hire? Graham has recently hired Ellie - someone who is completely opposite to him. She's a young female. http://thenext100days.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Personality-Difference.mp4 By using other people's differences, you can progress the business; they may compliment the business or address issues you as the creator do not. These are all strategies to think about. Leadership and work environments Kevin points out that he couldn't work under a Chief Executive who wouldn't listen to feedback or allow the challenging of management decisions. Now, there is a shift, as Ken suggests. The challenge is that most people are not equipped to be in management positions despite their being promoted there. So, it may be your tenacity hat has caused you to be successful, but when promoted it comes to how can you bring out the best in others. A lot of times, leaders get into these management positions and haven't been skilled and people haven't challenged them because of things happening and it just perpetuates itself. One question to ask is, how conscious, awake and aware, and how do you view your self and is that how others view you? 95% of people say that they know themselves and how they view their selves is how other people interpret their presence. However, only 10% of people do actually see their selves in the same way as others see them. This shows self-awareness isn't as acute as is needed; self-awareness is the meta skill for the 21st century. For the business environment, self-awareness can be found through actively engaging with feedback and also seeking it. This can help increase the capacity of others. http://thenext100days.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Feedback.mp4 Self and others: finding the middle ground Now, we've just discussed being true to ourselves (effectively) and now we're talking about how to consider and facilitate relationships with others. How can you serve your own needs and yet be seeking to serve others? If there is a tension between the two, how can you optimise personal situations without 360 degree-awareness? Well,
Dr. Ken Keis is a global authority on behavioral assessment strategies and process and an expert in leadership, purpose and wellness. He is an author, speaker, podcast host and life coach who focuses on holistic living, self-awareness, self-mastery, and Dr. Ken Keis –Live, Lead & Work with Purpose emotional intelligence. As the President and CEO of Consulting Resource Group International, Inc., Dr. Ken believes his purpose in life is to help others live, lead & work with purpose. At his core, Dr. Ken believes every person is here for a reason and every single person has a contribution to make. Dr. Ken himself spent 6 months with a coach to find his purpose. He even hand wrote over 60 pages of narrative to get a clear direction of his purpose. Before hiring a coach, Dr. Ken grew up on a dairy fam and woke up one morning asking himself, “Would it be okay if I was doing what I am doing now 20 years from now?” The answer was no, and Dr. Ken went on his self-discovery journey to determine what to do next. Driven by the data which states only 13% of the global workforce is engaged in their work, Dr. Ken is motivated to make a difference. Not only are you doing a disservice to your employer if you are unfulfilled working 6-10 hours a day, but you are doing a greater disservice to yourself. Meaning really comes into engaging and doing what you love. Dr. Ken asks you to ask yourself: Can the majority of what I'm doing have an intrinsic meaning? He encourages everyone take responsibility of their life and to find their true purpose and passion. So many people are confused. They are not willing to do the work to find their purpose or passions. So many people are too busy being busy. Many people have jobs to pay the bills, but are live in fear to change what they are doing. The certainty of misery versus the misery of uncertainty. Sometimes when someone is on a new path, they feel like they constantly have to explain themselves. Dr. Ken encourages you to make the changes best for you. Keep your relationships, but understand you are not going on the same path your loved ones may be on. Seek advice from those who have been in your position before, in your desired field, and those who have “been there and done that”. Do not expect past relationships to continue as your journey goes. You may feel guilty about leaving people behind, but remember you have left them stronger and better. You are on your own journey and you cannot always take everyone with you. Part of Dr. Ken's work is to develop the whole person and a person's whole potential. All of the cogs in the wheel are important as part of the development pathway. Dr. Ken explains how important it is to be a lifetime learner and to not get too focused on certain things. As clarity increases, performance increases. High performers know who they are and where they are going. Dr. Ken helps his clients to create clarity to have them optimize and realize their potential. We all have talent and something valuable to say, find your pathway to say it. If you do not know what your purpose is, then your first purpose is to find your purpose. As a free gift to the listeners of the Roots of Leadership, Dr. Ken is providing an electronic copy of his newest book: The Quest for Purpose. “Is it okay if I was here 20 years from now…? And I said, no! What I'm doing I'm good at, but it's not okay to be here for the next 20 years. And that was the beginning of saying ok, what direction then. I think this is what everybody needs to ask themselves.” – Ken Keis From growing up on his family's dairy farm and making the difficult decision to leave the farm to his path of becoming an international speaker, corporate coach, business owner and more, Ken Keis' journey to becoming an Everyday Millionaire is one of hard work and important lessons learned. Growing up, Ken learned to work around his dyslexia and has now written over 4 million words of content for his training programs, books and articles. He has earned big money but has also paid the price of being away from his home and family for extended periods of time. That's when he experienced a turning point in his life. Ken purchased Consulting Resource Group (CRG), which had its beginnings in 1979, co-created CRG's development models and is an industry leading expert on assisting individuals, families, teams, and organizations to realize their full potential and to live on purpose.
