Für die aktuelle Folge des Elektroauto-News Podcast hatte ich das Vergnügen, ein ausführliches Gespräch mit Roland Prettner, dem Präsidenten von Magna Steyr, zu führen. Dabei ging es um die Rolle und Bedeutung des Unternehmens in der Automobilindustrie. Prettner stellte sich und Magna Steyr vor und betonte, dass das Unternehmen, das vor 65 Jahren gegründet wurde, heute einer der größten Automobilzulieferer weltweit ist, mit 350 Standorten und 180.000 Mitarbeiter:innen. Eine interessante historische Perspektive brachte Prettner ebenfalls ein: „Wir feiern heute 125 Jahre Mobilität an diesem Standort. 1899 hat Johann Puch ein Werk gegründet in Graz.“ Diese lange Tradition bildet die Grundlage für die heutige Stärke und Flexibilität des Unternehmens. Prettner erklärte, wie Magna Steyr in den Wandel zur Elektromobilität involviert ist und welche Bedeutung die Produktion des Jaguar I-Pace im Jahr 2018 hatte. Für unseren Podcast wollte ich von ihm wissen, wie tief Magna Steyr in die Entwicklung solcher Autos involviert ist und Prettner erläuterte, dass sie verschiedene Geschäftsmodelle anbieten: „Wir bieten reine Produktion an. Wir bieten auch reine Entwicklung für Automobilhersteller, die von uns Entwicklungspakete haben wollen an. Und wir bieten Komplettpakete an, wo wir sowohl das Fahrzeug entwickeln als auch produzieren." Spannend war der Fakt, dass Magna Steyr bereits in den späten 80er-Jahren den ersten Fiat Panda Electro entwickelt hat. Ein zentrales Thema unseres Gesprächs war die Anpassung der Mitarbeiter:innen an die neuen Technologien. Prettner betonte: „Ich glaube, es ist ganz entscheidend, die Mitarbeiter da mitzunehmen und abzuholen.“ Diese Herangehensweise ist besonders wichtig, da der Übergang von Verbrennern zu Elektroautos auch eine Veränderung der erforderlichen Expertise bedeutet. Die aktuelle Marktentwicklung stellt natürlich auch Herausforderungen dar. Prettner bestätigte, dass sich das Unternehmen stets an die Produktionsschwankungen anpassen muss: „Das war in der Vergangenheit so, das ist auch heute noch so und wir gehen auch davon aus, dass es auch in der Zukunft so sein wird.“ Diese Flexibilität ist entscheidend, besonders in Zeiten, in denen Projekte wie der Jaguar E-Pace und I-Pace auslaufen und neue Projekte wie die elektrische G-Klasse von Mercedes anlaufen. Wir sprachen auch über die geopolitischen Aspekte und die Chancen, die sich aus den aktuellen Handelsbedingungen ergeben könnten. Prettner berichtete: „Sehr viele chinesische potenzielle Kunden zu uns kommen, wir zu ihnen kommen, die sich mit uns austauschen möchten.“ Diese potenziellen Partnerschaften könnten Magna Steyr helfen, die Produktionskapazitäten optimal auszulasten. Zum Abschluss unseres Gesprächs wollte ich wissen, was die Zukunft für Magna Steyr bereithält. Prettner zeigte sich optimistisch: „Wir haben vor, noch weitere 125 Jahre hier erfolgreich zu sein.“ Das Gespräch hat einen tiefen Einblick in die dynamische und vielseitige Welt eines der größten Automobilzulieferer gegeben und verdeutlicht, wie wichtig Flexibilität und Anpassungsfähigkeit in der heutigen Industrie sind. It was a commercial van rather than a people hauler, with a bulkhead behind the front seats fully partitioning the cargo area; all of ours will be passenger versions. It also sat on the shorter 117.6-inch wheelbase that will be offered in Europe, while the plan is to bring only the longer-wheelbase variant to America. The U.S. version will also have a bigger battery pack than the prototype's 77.0-kWh unit. - The prototype used what will be the entry-level powertrain consisting of a single electric motor driving the rear wheels - Like the ID.4, it makes 201 horsepower and 229 lb-ft of torque. Volkswagen engineers say an all-wheel-drive version using a second motor to power the front axle will also be offered. Beyond basic dimensions - We're also promised that the finished car will support forthcoming Plug & Charge technology, which will allow cars to communicate directly with chargers to eliminate the need for cards or apps. We don't have official range figures yet, but the engineering team says they would be happy with a 250-mile rating under the European WLTP testing protocol - We haven't been given a peak charging speed either but are assured that rapid DC charging will be supported (the ID.4 supports rates of up to 125 kilowatts). A spinoff could generate the kind of earnings multiples that have given Tesla a market value approaching $1 trillion. - Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo said last week it could split off its electric and internal combustion drivetrain activities into two “dedicated entities,” as the automaker targets a 100 percent full-electric lineup in Europe by 2030. - Investors have awarded immense value to pure EV makers, such as Rivian Automotive, whose market value briefly topped Ford's late last year despite producing relatively few vehicles. - As Farley sought to maximize the value of Ford's EV operations, his vision evolved over time, from initially considering a smaller spinoff, to contemplating a full breakup, to now looking at an internal split, the people familiar with the effort said. - Analysts have said Ford needs to shed its legacy business model to achieve the profit margins that Tesla commands, which Farley has estimated top $10,000 a car. Once again, the top-rated electric cars are the Tesla Model 3 for the premium electric vehicle segment, and the Kia Niro EV for the mass market contenders. based on a 1,000-point scale, is measured by 10 factors, including range, access to charging stations, at-home charging and cost of ownership. Acing many of the categories is the Model 3, which scored 777 points. The Model Y comes in second place Moving into the mass-market side of things, the Kia Niro EV ranks highest with 744 points, The study doesn't just look at the cars individually. It takes the temperature of EV newbies and EV "veterans," those who've owned a battery-powered car for a longer period of time https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/tesla-model-3-kia-niro-ev-jd-power-ev-study/ First-time owners of electric vehicles were reluctant to switch back to gasoline-fueled cars even as concerns continued to loom about the availability of charging infrastructure, a report from JD Power showed on Thursday. On Friday, the German carmaker announced it broke the Guinness World Record for shortest charging time to drive across the U.S. in its $87,030 battery-powered car: 2 hours, 26 minutes, and 48 seconds. Last year, Kia set the record (and grabbed it from Tesla) with a 7 hour, 10 minute, and 1 second charging time while making the 2,834-mile journey in its soon-to-be-released EV6. Now the title belongs to the Taycan, Porsche's first EV, which used Electrify America's ultra-fast chargers across the U.S. on the cross-country trek. https://mashable.com/article/porsche-taycan-ev-charging-record STOREDOT CLAIMS EV BATTERY LIFE BREAKTHROUGH Fast battery charging  battery specialist StoreDot has unveiled technology that it claims will enable a dramatic extension the lifespan of electric vehicle (EV) batteries. The Israeli firm, whose core  XFC battery technology is said to provide a 50 per cent reduction in charging time, claims that this latest innovation will extend the lifespan of EV batteries thereby reducing their environmental impact and enabling drivers to maintain performance of their vehicles for many more years without compromising on range. It claims that the technology enables batteries to maintain a robust performance after 1000 cycles and 80% capacity, the point at which rival lithium-ion fast charging technologies start to rapidly deteriorate in performance.  Indeed, even after 1700 cycles, long after the accepted industry norm, StoreDot's batteries are said to maintain 70% of the original capacity. This potentially makes them effective  for second life usage in applications such as energy storage and grid load balancing. https://www.theengineer.co.uk/storedot-claims-ev-battery-life-breakthrough/ CONNECTICUT LAUNCHES 'COMPREHENSIVE' AND 'COMPLEX' CHARGING PROGRAM Connecticut utilities kicked off 2022 with the launch of a new electric vehicle (EV) program designed to spur the deployment of more than 60,000 charging ports by 2030, along with rates and demand response solutions to help manage the growing load. The Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) approved the nine-year program in July, clearing the way for Eversource and United Illuminating (UI) to offer $500 off the cost of a networked residential charger along with incentives for fast charging, fleets, multifamily buildings and other EV market segments. Connecticut finished 2021 with 21,382 EVs registered in the state, according to the group's web site, representing an almost 55% year-over-year increase. The state's long-term transportation strategy calls for 500,000 EVs on the road by 2030. The new charging incentive program is targeting 50,000 residential installations by 2030, almost 5,000 "destination" chargers at locations like stores and shopping malls, more than 7,000 in workplaces and serving light-duty fleets, and 550 direct current fast chargers. The campaign's theme, "Your journey at its most evolved," comes to life in two new commercials starring Jason Bateman. News from Germany brings the issue into clear focus, as Tesla's Model S has come out rather unfavorably versus its EV competition, as reported by Merkur.de. In Germany, rigorous automotive inspections are regularly carried out, first after the car has been in use for 3 years, and then every 2 years after that. The Smart Fortwo Electric Drive performed best of all, with only 3.5% showing any defects upon reporting for inspection. BMW's i3 was not far behind, clocking in with 4.7 percent having a notable defect. For comparison's sake, the average defect rate for all cars from 2-3 years old in Germany is 4.7 percent. However, other models weren't so lucky. 5.7% of Renault Zoes presented with defects in a below-average result. ALFA ROMEO GIULIA IS GOING ELECTRIC - In an interview with Auto Express, Alfa Romeo's CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato revealed a bunch of details about the future of the company and electric vehicles. But the most interesting is that, despite the world's insatiable appetite for SUVs, the Giulia sport sedan will get another generation, and one that's entirely electric. - the car will be built on the STLA Large platform, one of several EV architectures Stellantis announced back July. - the Large platform is said to accept 101-kWh to 118-kWh of battery capacity and up to 500 miles of range. It may also be sharing the platform and development with the future Stelvio, like the current one does with the Giorgio platform. - Stellantis aims to have its 500-mile STLA Large platform cars, among the others, ready for 2024. Odds seem good that the electric Alfas will start showing up at that time, since the brand is planning to be fully electric in 2027. That will make it the first Stellantis brand to be entirely electric. President Biden now only has to sign it into law, effectively freeing $15bn in funding for electric transportation, after he had to make concessions. - Specifically, the trillion-dollar package includes $7.5 billion for expanding electric vehicle charging infrastructure nationwide and $7.5 billion for electric buses. However, Biden had to make concessions. For example, for the national network with 500,000 EV charging stations, the compromise has been reached leaves $7.5Bn of the $15Bn Biden had initially envisioned. - For the purchase of electric school and public transport buses, the bipartisan draft now also provides $7.5Bn, instead of the previously wanted $45Bn. The second bill contains more of the Build Back Better plan and Biden's EV vision, including an renewal of the EV tax credit—currently containing a controversial provision boosting union-built EVs—and other money potentially going toward equity, manufacturing, the supply chain, other incentives, and building out charging infrastructure. - That bill faces challenges, although it's worth noting that the EV tax credit itself, prior to the union riders, had bipartisan support. The EV was meant to debut back in 2020, but LA Auto Show organizers canceled the event. A redo of the show meant for May 2021 didn't happen either. Now, the show will go on this month, with the Ocean ready for the spotlight. - As for power, it should come from an 80-kilowatt-hour battery, which Fisker said this week will be supplied by China's CATL. The company will make five gigawatt-hours of production available for the Ocean to churn out battery packs. Magna Steyr will handle final production of the Ocean in Austria, unless something changes. A study of 2,000 UK drivers by Volkswagen Financial Services found 35 percent of those questioned said they would be more likely to go electric thanks to the fuel shortage. - Volkswagen Financial Services survey shows the impact of the shortage on buyers' intentions, with more than a third saying they are more likely to go electric when they come to change their car. Similarly, 32 percent of Brits say they are likely to buy a second-hand electric vehicle when the time comes to change their car. A study done by online lender Lending Tree showed that Tesla buyers are willing to take on a loan of five and a half years to be able to drive one of the EVs. - To get the data, Lending Tree looked at 29,000 auto loans from October 2018 to October 2021. Loans from 30 auto brands spanning everything from Tesla to Ram to Audi were examined. Tesla came out at number one with its buyers averaging 67.1 months on their loan terms. Back in 2013, SK Innovation founded a joint venture with the BAIC Group to manufacture batteries. BaaS means Battery as a Service, and is a service industry based on EV batteries rental, charging, reuse, and recycling. It was engaging; it was at times entertaining; and it was incredibly thought provoking and educational. To cut to the chase: it turns out that if Austria doesn’t successfully orchestrate a transition of its roughly 314,000-strong automotive sector employees from ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicle production to EV production within about 10 years, it stands to suffer a whopping 5.8% reduction in GDP. In plainer terms, Austria risks losing its entire automotive manufacturing industry if it doesn't fully embrace electric vehicles within 10 years. If this sounds at all familiar, it’s because it bears as striking similarity to what happened in the UK: in the post-war years, manufacturing (of which automotive was a considerable sector) made up some 48% of the country’s economy. By 2013, manufacturing had shrunk to a mere 13%. Similarly, the fate of once-great American cities Pittsburgh and Detroit offer an extreme look at what can happen if a local economy doesn’t act nimbly to change with the times. Regardless, the clock is ticking for Austria where the future of one of Europe’s largest automotive manufacturing companies, Magna Steyr, hangs precariously on the edge as it struggles to transition from an ICE to an EV future. Zeng Yuqun, chairman of Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (CATL), has said the Ningde-based manufacturing firm has the capability of making a battery pack that can last for about 16 years, powering an electric vehicle for 1.24 million miles." writes Newsweek: "According to the SCMP, CATL signed a two-year contract to supply batteries to Tesla in February this year, and its technology is set to be incorporated into the Model 3 range of vehicles being made at Musk's new gigafactory located in Shanghai."   On Elon: "We're getting along well and he's a fun guy. The Escape PHEV might be one of the top-selling plug-in hybrids and a major competitor to the Toyota RAV4 Prime. It will start at less than $35,000 (MSRP), before destination charge and an eligible federal tax credit of probably over $6,700." says InsideEVs: " The EPA-estimated all-electric range will be about 37 miles (59.5 km) so really not bad, although the RAV4 Prime is able to go up to 42 miles (67.6 km). The battery pack (14.4 kWh) is installed under the second-row seats."   Hau Thai-Tang, Ford chief product development and purchasing officer said: “The original Ford Escape was the world’s first hybrid SUV and the all-new Ford Escape plug-in hybrid represents how far we’ve come in technology and efficiency. The all-new Escape plug-in has more power and more passenger space than the Fusion Energi plug-in, as well as four times the cargo volume behind its second-row seats. He takes over the role from Herbert Diess who is currently the CEO of both the VW brand and VW Group as a whole. " reports Motor1.com: "The company's board positions this change as letting Diess put a greater emphasis on running the business, rather than splitting his focus between two roles.  The shakeup comes amid VW having some problems in Europe. The company had to halt deliveries of the new Golf because of an issue with the software for the emergency call function – a mandated feature in Europe. The problem affected around 15,000 cars that the automaker had already delivered to customers.  There are also rumors about problems with the software suite in the company's forthcoming ID.3 electric car. The exact nature of the issue isn't clear, but elements within the system are allegedly not able to communicate correctly. The UK would be BYD’s first European battery cell factory but the company is also looking at other European locations, the source said. JLR currently sells the Jaguar I-Pace electric crossover, which is built by Magna Steyr in Austria. WiTricity's charging coils, which China chose for its national wireless standard in May, can reach parked electric sports cars and SUVs alike with clearance ranging from 4 in.–10 in." says CNBC: "Charging vehicles in motion is on the table with existing technology too, since the distance between a car's carriage and the road stays fairly constant. Fellow wireless charging company Qualcomm Halo, which WiTricity acquired last year, has built a 300-ft test track in France that can charge cars driving at highway speeds. And Israeli start-up Electreon is electrifying short stretches of road in Israel and Sweden. If automakers can settle on one standard technology, omnipresent, automatic charging stations would let electric vehicles go farther on smaller batteries, reminiscent of Tesla's imagined fuel-free planes. The New 500 ‘la Prima’ hatchback – including the fitment of the easyWallbox – is priced at £26,995, including PiCG. The lithium-ion batteries, with a capacity of 42kWh, give the New 500 a range of up to 199 miles in the WLTP cycle. To optimise charging time, the New 500 electric is equipped with an 85kW fast charge system. The New 500 also comes with a 11kW onboard AC charger. Sherpa mode optimises the available resources to reduce fuel consumption to a minimum -  maximum speed is limited to 50mph; accelerator response is managed in order to reduce energy consumption; and deactivation of both the climate control system and heated seats. The electric motor has an output of 87kW, providing a maximum speed of 93mph (self-limited) and acceleration from zero to 62mph in 9 seconds and zero to 31mph in 3.1 seconds. The New 500 electric is the first FCA car to be equipped with the new UConnect 5 infotainment system, the connected platform designed for the future. Developed with the idea of providing customers with a completely new user experience, UConnect 5 is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto operating systems and can be used in wireless mode. My Remote: checks the battery charge level from a smartphone; schedule vehicle charging during the most convenient time periods; know the exact location of the car; lock and unlock the doors and set the climate control system.   MERCEDES GLA 250 E 2020 REVIEW Mercedes-Benz CLA 250 e Coupé, CLA 250 e Shooting Brake and B 250 e plug-in hybrids are available to order now.  . The GLA with plug-in hybrid drive system will follow a few weeks later   "The new GLA 250 e is plug-in hybrid motoring at its best, and for many prospective buyers this could be the GLA to go for. Impressive all-electric running combines with surprisingly sporty yet economical hybrid drive when the petrol engine is brought into play." is how AutoExpress reviewed it: "Joining electrified versions of the latest CLA and CLA Shooting Brake in British Mercedes showrooms is the new GLA 250 e, which shapes up as a rival for plug-in hybrid versions of the latest BMW X1 and X2 and the Volvo XC40. Total system power stands at 215bhp and 450Nm, while the electric power is stored in a 15.6kWh battery. It is only available with AMG Line Executive equipment grade or higher, so prices start from £35,280.   CHINA’S EV MARKET IS RECOVERING "In China, exactly 55,829 battery electric cars and 14,370 plug-in hybrids from local production were sold in May. The sales figures for so-called New Energy Vehicles were thus 25.8 per cent lower than in the same month last year, but 19.5 per cent higher than in April 2020." reports Chris Randall for electrive: "The best-selling electrified model in May was the Tesla Model 3: CPCA statistics show 11,095 units of the locally manufactured American electric sedan sold in China. That is a good three times as many as in April (3,635). However, sales of the Model 3 in April were also down sharply on March (10,160). Tesla itself probably contributed to the new high with a price reduction for the Model 3 Standard Range announced at the end of April. "   That price drop kept it in the window for Chinese subsidies. And what about the Long Range RWD Model 3 they started delivering at the end of May?   David Leggett, Automotive Analyst at GlobalData: "This is the second consecutive monthly rise for the Chinese vehicle market, as it rebounds from sharp declines in the first quarter caused by the COVID-19 coronavirus. Themen heute:    Magna baut den Toyota GR Supra ///   Opel setzt Umweltprämie auch im neuen Jahr fort 1. Auf der North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) präsentiert die globale Automobilwelt ihre Neuheiten und zukünftigen Produkte. Unter anderem feierte der neue Toyota GR Supra seine Weltpremiere in Detroit. Dazu gab Magna bekannt, dass der neue Sportwagen in seinem Werk für Fahrzeugauftragsfertigung bei Magna Steyr im österreichischen Graz gebaut wird.   Magna ist mit seinem Magna Steyr-Werk der weltweit führende, markenunabhängige Automobilzulieferer mit ganzheitlichem Know-how in Design, Entwicklung und Gesamtfahrzeugproduktion. Mit dem Toyota GR Supra erweitert das Unternehmen seine Fahrzeugauftragsfertigung um einen vierten Kunden. „Diese neue Partnerschaft mit Toyota beweist unsere Fertigungskompetenz und unsere Fähigkeit, die hohen Qualitätsstandards, die unsere Kunden bei der Fertigung ihrer Fahrzeuge erwarten, zu erfüllen“, sagte Günther Apfalter, President Magna Europe & Magna Steyr. „Es ist ein weiteres Beispiel dafür, dass wir in einzigartiger Weise in der Lage sind, Automobilhersteller und Neueinsteiger auf der Suche nach hoher Entwicklungs- und Produktionskompetenz zu unterstützen.” Bis heute hat Magna Steyr in Graz mehr als dreieinhalb Millionen Fahrzeuge für verschiedene Kunden produziert. Neben der Produktion des Sportwagens liefert Magna auch Sitze, Karosserieteile, Türverriegelungen, Heckklappen und das Kraftstoffsystem für den Toyota GR Supra.   2. Opel setzt auch 2019 die hauseigene Umweltprämie fort. So können bis auf Weiteres die Besitzer älterer Dieselfahrzeuge aller Marken der Abgasnorm Euro 1 bis Euro 4 von bis zu 8.000 Euro Prämie profitieren. Voraussetzung: Das zuvor mindestens sechs Monate auf den Neuwagenkäufer zugelassene Diesel-Altfahrzeug wird verschrottet. Zudem gilt eine Eintauschprämie für Kunden mit Wohn- oder Firmensitz in Schwerpunktregionen auch bei Inzahlungnahme von Euro 5-Modellen der Marke Opel. Den modellabhängigen Bonus gibt es bei allen deutschen Vertragshändlern der Herstellers für Neuwagen der meisten Baureihen. Das Unternehmen hat bereits im vergangenen Jahr sein Produktportfolio an die ab September 2019 für alle Neuzulassungen geltenden Euro 6d-TEMP-Anforderungen angepasst. Wir haben uns je schon längst daran gewöhnt, dass die Einzelteile von Autos auf der ganzen Welt hergestellt werden und dann beim Autohersteller selbst zusammengebaut werden. Der hat seine Werke oft auch über die ganze Welt verstreut. Es kann aber noch weiter gehen. Magna, einer der weltweit größten Automobilzulieferer, baut sogar komplette Autos im Auftrag des jeweiligen Herstellers.  Einer dieser Hersteller ist Jaguar Land Rover! Darum geht es diesmal!Also ich werde Sie jetzt gleich zu Beginn mal etwas verwirren. Wir sprechen über ein Auto, das in Österreich gebaut wird. Na, was könnte das sein? Es ist der Jaguar E-PACE. Der Hintergrund: Wegen vollausgelasteter Fertigungsstätten im Vereinigten Königreich ist Jaguar Land Rover für die Montage des neuen E-PACE eine Partnerschaft mit Magna Steyr in Graz, Österreich, eingegangen. Dort wird übrigens auch der erste elektrisch angetriebene Jaguar, der I-PACE gefertigt. Das Outfit!Der E-PACE ist ein kompaktes, fünfsitziges SUV mit dem Design und der Performance eines sportlichen Jaguar, aber eben als SUV. Das Exterieur-Design wurde vom Jaguar F-TYPE inspiriert und entsprechend SUV-like angepasst. Power und Drive!    Jaguar setzt in der E-PACE-Baureihe ausschließlich 2,0-Liter-Vierzylinder-Motoren aus der neuen Ingenium Familie ein, die wir jetzt aber nicht alle aufzählen können. In unserem Testfahrzeug, dem E-PACE S - P200 tat – der Name lässt es schon vermuten - ein 147/200 (kW/PS) starker Motor mit 9-Stufen-Automatikgetriebe Dienst. In Kombination mit dem hier serienmäßigen Allradantrieb wird der Wagen in 8,2 Sekunden von 0-100 km/h beschleunigt und erreicht eine Höchstgeschwindigkeit von 216 km/h.  Sein Verbrauch liegt in Verbindung mit 17 Zoll-Felgen bei 8,2 Liter/100 km, was umgerechnet 186 g/km CO2 entspricht.      Die Innenausstattung!Natürlich verfügen alle E-PACE-Modelle von Jaguar über eine reichhaltige Serienausstattung. Dazu zählen neben dem Infotainmentsystem Touch Pro unter anderem eine Rückfahrkamera sowie moderne Fahrassistenzsysteme wie ein Notfall-Bremsassistent, Spurhalteassistent und Aufmerksamkeitsassistent. Weiterhin sind eine Einparkhilfe vorne und hinten, eine Geschwindigkeitsregelung mit Geschwindigkeitsbegrenzer, eine perimetrische Alarmanlage inkl. Wegfahrsperre und eine 2-Zonen-Klimaautomatik an Bord.  Es gibt ein Bluetooth®-fähiges Telefonsystem, eine Sprachsteuerung und das Touch Pro mit 10" Touchscreen. Die Kosten!Die Preise des Jaguar E-PACE  reichen ohne weitere Extras  von 35.625,00 € bis 61.350,00 €. Themen heute:    Beleuchtung am Fahrrad   ///   Magna und Altran gründen gemeinsames Engineering Center in Marokko 1. Die Tage werden kürzer und wer viel mit dem Rad unterwegs ist, fährt immer häufiger im Dunklen. Fahrradfahrer sollten daher jetzt die Beleuchtung ihres Gefährts checken, empfiehlt man bei der D.A.S. Rechtsschutz Leistungs-GmbH. Sie sollte vollständig und funktionstüchtig sein. Vorgeschrieben sind vorn ein weißer Scheinwerfer und ein weißer Rückstrahler. Hinten muss es ein rotes Rücklicht und einen roten Rückstrahler geben. Übrigens: Seit Juni 2017 sind nicht nur Fahrradbeleuchtungen mit Dynamo, sondern auch solche mit Batterie oder Akku zulässig. Die Dynamopflicht ist also passé. Die Beleuchtung einschließlich Energiequelle darf abnehmbar sein. Ohne sie zu fahren, ist allerdings nur bei hellem Tageslicht erlaubt. Auch rote Rückleuchten mit Bremslichtfunktion und weiße Frontlampen mit Tagfahrlicht- und Fernlichtfunktion sind erlaubt. Allerdings darf die Beleuchtung andere Verkehrsteilnehmer nicht blenden. Unzulässig sind blinkende Leuchten. Zur Pflichtausstattung eines Fahrrads gehören auch Reflektoren vorn und hinten an den Pedalen. Um von der Seite gut zu sehen zu sein, müssen Fahrräder entweder je zwei gelbe Speichenreflektoren am Vorder- und Hinterrad oder weiße Reflexstreifen an den Reifen oder Felgen haben. Nicht vorgeschrieben, aber empfehlenswert sind reflektierende Kragen, Gurte oder Westen, die sich Fahrradfahrer bei schlechten Sichtverhältnissen umhängen können. 2. In den vergangenen Jahren hat sich Marokko zu einem wettbewerbsfähigen, exportorientierten Produktionsstandort für internationale Automobilhersteller entwickelt. Das Joint Venture zwischen Magna und Altran Technologies SA schafft eine neue Ressource für Ingenieursdienstleistungen im Bereich Fahrzeugtechnik. Die Magna-Gruppe für Gesamtfahrzeugentwicklung und -produktion und der weltweit führende Anbieter von Forschungs- und Entwicklungsdienstleistungen Altran halten jeweils 50 Prozent an dem Gemeinschaftsunternehmen. Unter dem Namen MG2 bündelt das Joint Venture mit Sitz in Casablanca, Marokko das Gesamtfahrzeug-Know-how und die Prozesskompetenz von Magna mit den Stärken von Altran als lokal etabliertem Partner. Zunächst werden rund 500 Ingenieure aus beiden Unternehmen dort für das Joint Venture tätig sein.  „Durch das Joint Venture mit Altran kann Magna seine Wettbewerbsposition stärken, da wir nun auch in Marokko erstklassige Entwicklungsdienstleistungen anbieten können. Well good morning, good afternoon and good evening, wherever you are in the world, hello and welcome to the Monday 2nd July edition of EV News Daily. It’s Martyn Lee here with the news you need to know about electric cars and the move towards sustainable transport.   "I THINK WE JUST BECAME A REAL CAR COMPANY" The latest numbers for Quarter 2 have been confirmed from the investor relations portal at ir.tesla.com so let's dive into them, and have a think about what it means. Plus in a minute or two, I'll reveal the exact number of Model 3 reservation holders still on the list - and I'll tell you why I has to ask Ride The Lightning’s Ryan McCaffery first - but more on that in a mo. Stay with me. The first clarification I wanted to make today was just to counter all those articles today which said the 5k Model 3 achievement was simply a burst rate and couldn't be replicated. Whilst you might understand if this week staff took a day or two R&R, and maybe that went down to 4.5k, the hardware is there to hit that number. Maybe a supplier is late with something and that slows you down, but General Assembly is built. So that argument doesn't make sense. And it's fair to say that in the past Tesla has taken a one day rate of production and multiplied by 7 to get a theoretical week, but I don't think that point was made very clear by many websites today. So a reminder the 5k figure is how many Model 3's they made last week. Reuters have a couple of quotes: "“It was pretty hectic,” said one worker who described the atmosphere as “all hands on deck.” Another worker speaking after the 5,000th car was made described the factory as a “mass celebration". One worker told Reuters that, to meet the goal, employees from other departments were dispatched to parts of the Model 3 assembly line to keep it running constantly, and breaks were staggered “so the line didn’t stop moving.” On Twitter I asked Domenick at InsideEVs how many the final number was, because their monthly sales scorecard is the best out there in terms of accuracy. The answer is 5,031 Model 3's and 1,913 Model S and X vehicles. So Domenick that you for your reply. According to Tesla: "Q2 production totalled 53,339 vehicles, a 55% increase from Q1, making it the most productive quarter in Tesla history by far. For the first time, Model 3 production (28,578) exceeded combined Model S and X production (24,761), and we produced almost three times the amount of Model 3s than we did in Q1. Our Model 3 weekly production rate also more than doubled during the quarter, and we did so without compromising quality." "GA4, our new General Assembly line for Model 3, was responsible for roughly 20% of Model 3s produced last week, with quality from that line being as good as our regular GA3 line. We expect that GA3 alone can reach a production rate of 5,000 Model 3s per week soon, but GA4 helped to get us there faster and will also help to exceed that rate." "Tesla expects to increase production to 6,000 Model 3s per week by late next month. We also reaffirm our guidance for positive GAAP net income and cash flow in Q3 and Q4, despite negative pressures from a weaker USD and likely higher tariffs for vehicles imported into China as well as components procured from China." And now onto how many Model 3 reservations there are outstanding. I'm no Tesla expert, because this podcast covers all markets and all car makers, so when you want really in depth knowledge I'd always say your go-to shows are Ryan McCaffery's Ride The Lightning coming up on it's 3rd birthday, and Trevor from Model 3 Owners Club, and Rob from Tesla Daily for things like the financial side. So Tesla revealed the exact number of outstanding Model 3 reservation holders, and it's something I’ve only ever heard in vague numbers before. So I asked the expert and Ryan for whether Tesla have done this before? "Hey Martyn. Not quite the first time, but you're right that they've kept it close to the vest, mostly. I believe last quarter they had mentioned that they still had ~450k reservations. The reduction now is obviously because they've delivered a bunch of cars. Cheers!" "The remaining net Model 3 reservations count at the end of Q2 still stood at roughly 420,000 even though we have now delivered 28,386 Model 3 vehicles to date."   MAGNA CEO SEE EV FUTURE I'm a huge fan of the Jaguar I-PACE and it's being made by Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria. Don Walker is CEO of Magna International, the largest North American auto parts supplier, and has been talking to News Editor of Autonews.com Lindsay Chappell: "We've been working on electric vehicles for at least 10 years now. We proposed the electric Focus to Ford 10 years ago and worked with them to develop it. It wasn't a ground-up electric vehicle, but we took out the internal combustion engine componentry and made it a pure electric vehicle. We took the lead on bringing that vehicle to market. We also worked with Volvo about eight years ago to create an electric rear-axle drive. And we've also signed a contract to develop an electric vehicle for Volkswagen in China. We bring that project the motors, the software, the electronics, the controller, the gearbox. Japan's second-biggest automaker said the Chinese investment firm lacked the funds to make the purchase. The deal could not be closed by the June 29 deadline, Nissan said, ending a process which had faced several delays since its announcement almost a year ago." according to Nasdaq.com: "In August, Nissan had announced its plan to sell Automotive Energy Supply Corp, which includes battery plants in the United States, England and Japan, for an undisclosed sum. A source told Reuters at the time that GSR had agreed to pay Nissan a total of $1 billion for the deal. Tuesday 10th April 2018. AUDI E-TRON VISION GT When is a concept, not a concept? When is vapourware, not vapourware? The Audi e-tron Vision Gran Turismo was developed for virtual races on PS4, but now Audi is making the car a reality in conjunction with Formula E. You’ll first see it with the race in Rome this Saturday, April 14, deployed as a race taxi. Electric Vehicle News reports: “The customers and guests of the brand with the four rings will be able to experience Formula E’s city circuits as passengers in the Audi e-tron Vision Gran Turismo starting at the race in Rome (April 14). Employees at Audi’s pre-production center developed and produced this one-of-a-kind car within the space of just eleven months based on the example of the Audi e-tron Vision Gran Turismo from the “Gran Turismo” PlayStation game. The Audi e-tron Vision Gran Turismo has permanent all-wheel drive as well, the fully electric e-tron quattro all-wheel drive with variable power distribution. Three electric motors, each with output of 200 kW, propel the concept car. Two electric motors drive the rear axle and the third one the front axle, using individual components from the future Audi e-tron. System output is 600 kW (815 hp). With a curb weight of 1,450 kilograms the electric race car has a power to weight ratio of 1.78 kilo­grams per horsepower with ideal 50:50 percent weight distribution between the front and the rear axle. The Audi e-tron Vision Gran Turismo accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 2.5 seconds.” “This car incorporates numerous elements of our new design language such as the inverted single frame in the vehicle’s color that will be typical for our new e-tron models,” Marc Lichte, chief designer at Audi, says. “Although the design of a virtual vehicle allows much greater freedom and the creation of concepts which are only hard to implement in reality, we did not want to put a purely fictitious concept on wheels. Our aim was a fully functional car.” Just one final thought for the ex-race driver tasked with piloting this at speed – do not crash it.   MORE DYSON Of all the future car projects, the Dyson company led by James Dyson, and best known for vacuum cleaners, seems to have grabbed a lot of attention. And from a practical point of you, once you get past lazy headlines about their cars “not sucking”, they’re very experienced in making consumer products. And battery products too, because they don’t sell those vacuum cleaners with cords any more – they’re all batteries. In an interview with Wired: Wired: Your development of solid-state batteries is key to your electric car plans, isn't it? JD:Diesel-gate and the pollution in cities was the big changer, to the point where we should be banning diesels immediately from cities. France and Britain have decided to ban internal combustion engines from 2040, so it is happening. The public want electric cars, I think, despite worries about range. And the fact that they are quiet - and by the way we ought to make tyres quieter - there are so many things that we can improve it will make the public really want electric cars. Wired: You now have some heavy hitters in automotive at Dyson, such as Ian Robertson, former BMW board member... JD:He just left BMW, but has been on our board for number of years. He had to leave our board when we announced we were doing a car, but I hope he will now come back on the board. We have a very good relationship with BMW. Crucially, we have taken on people from the car industry and mixed them with our people, who are naïve in this area, but inventive - which i think is a really good mix, actually. Wired: Finally, you say you that your cars are going to be "radically different". Can you tell us anything at all about they will be so different? JD:No! When we started this four years ago, Tesla was still very small, diesel-gate hadn't happened and no one was really considering electric cars. So we are not Johnny-come-latelies on this. We had seen it coming, invested in batteries and started our project.   JAGUAR I-PACE MAKER WORKS WITH CHINESE You know that gorgeous Jaguar I-PACE, well it’s actually being outsourced for the production to a company called Magna. And now Automotivenews reports: “BAIC Group (Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co., Ltd.) and Magna today announced that they will jointly develop a next-generation smart electric vehicle architecture for the Chinese market. China is currently the leading market for electric mobility in the world, with around 700,000 electrified cars sold in 2017. By 2020, the number of all-electric cars on China’s roads is forecast to reach around five million, due in part to subsidies and quotas by the Chinese government. Magna Steyr was selected to be BAIC’s partner due to its innovative and cost-effective solutions throughout its complete vehicle manufacturing and engineering services as well as its full-scale electronic/electrical architecture and lightweight technologies. The agreement was signed on April 8, 2018”.   CONGRATULATIONS ZOE Gilles Normand, SVP, Electric Vehicle Business Unit at Renault celebrated the 100,000th full electric Zoe: “Today is a special day. I had the pleasure of participating in the celebration of the 100,000th Renault ZOE that was manufactured in Flins (France). Already 100,000 customers have fallen in love with ZOE! Launched in 2012, ZOE was fitted with a bigger, 41 kWh battery in 2016, allowing it to go even further. And for enhanced driving pleasure we equipped ZOE this month with a more powerful engine, the R110 (80 kW).In addition of being the leading electric vehicle in Europe for the third consecutive year in 2017, ZOE has been voted Best Electric Car by different juries composed of automotive journalists an impressive number of times throughout Europe. The Magna-Steyr plant in Graz is celebrating the 300,000th G-Class. The iconic automobile has been built here exclusively for Mercedes-Benz since 1979. The landmark vehicle, a G 500 in designo mauritius blue metallic, is powered by a 4-litre V8-engine that has a maximum output of 310 kW (422 PS) with a peak torque of 610 Nm.
