Polestar has announced that it will adopt Tesla's North American Charging Standard (NACS), joining other automakers like Ford, General Motors, Rivian Automotive, and Volvo Cars. This agreement will give Polestar drivers in the United States and Canada access to Tesla's Supercharger network. Volkswagen is currently in discussions with Tesla about potentially adopting Tesla's North American Charging Standard (NACS). Volkswagen's EV charging network unit, Electrify America, has already established over 850 charging stations in the US and Canada. Electrify America, the second-largest electric vehicle fast-charging network in the US, plans to add Tesla's connector to its charging stations, aiming to adopt Tesla's plug as the industry standard. By 2025, Electrify America aims to incorporate Tesla's connector into both existing and future chargers. Blink Charging, a provider of electric vehicle charging solutions, has announced plans to integrate the North America Charging Standard (NACS) by Tesla into its entire product range. The company aims to make all its charging products NACS compatible by October 2023. According to a study by J.D. Power, Tesla's chargers are more reliable than those of its competitors. Tesla vehicle owners reported the highest satisfaction with public charging, scoring 734 on a 1,000-point scale. Chevrolet has announced that the base trim of the 2024 Silverado EV will start at $50,000. However, the actual MSRP is subject to change, and there will be different price ranges available to cater to buyers' needs. Germany is planning to allocate up to 900 million euros in subsidies for the expansion of electric vehicle charging stations for households and companies. The country aims to have one million charging points by 2030. South Korean battery supplier LG Chem is expanding its main plant in Holland, Michigan to increase its production output of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles (EVs) from 5 gigawatt hours to 25 gigawatt hours. Tesla's upcoming refreshed Model 3 is rumored to feature CATL's new M3P LFP cells, which are expected to increase the vehicle's range. CATL has become one of Tesla's main battery manufacturers. Tesla is reportedly examining StoreDot's XFC Extreme Fast Charging battery technology. StoreDot is an Israeli startup known for producing EV batteries capable of rapid charging. Suzuki's first electric vehicle for global markets has been spotted in images ahead of its planned launch in 2025. The production car closely resembles the EVX concept unveiled earlier in India. It has decided to source parts from its shareholder, Geely, in an effort to cut costs and expedite the arrival of its electric vehicles. The EU parliament has approved new legislation aimed at making electric vehicle (EV) batteries more environmentally friendly and efficient. The regulations will impact the design, production, and waste management of all batteries sold in the EU. Toyota has fallen in brand loyalty rankings in the United States, dropping to seventh place in a study by S&P Global Mobility. This demotion was partly due to customers defecting to Tesla. The UK is set to gain its first lithium mine in Cornwall through a joint venture between British startup British Lithium and French mining company Imerys. The mine aims to produce enough lithium for 500,000 electric cars per year by the end of the decade. Domino's Pizza is set to have the largest electric pizza delivery fleet in the US, with over 1,100 custom-branded Chevy Bolt electric vehicles planned for use by the end of the year. The electric vehicles provide various benefits including longer battery life, zero emissions, advanced safety features, and lower maintenance costs.

Show #1478 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily, your trusted source of EV information. It's Wednesday 25th May, and in case you missed it, Martyn is off on his holidays. I'm Blake Boland, and I've gone through every EV story today so that you don't have to! First up, let's look at our headline story for the day. Modified Nissan Ariya To Drive From North To South Pole In 2023 - British adventurer and Guinness World Record holder Chris Ramsey will become the first person in automotive history to drive Pole to Pole in an all electric vehicle in a bid to raise awareness of the climate crisis and the role that electric cars can play in reducing our carbon footprint. - This will be the first time that any vehicle has driven from the Magnetic North Pole to the South Pole, and Ramsey believes it is the ideal way to highlight just what electric vehicles are capable of – even in the most extreme climates. - After nearly four years of planning, the Pole to Pole Expedition is scheduled to start in March 2023, covering 17,000 miles across 14 countries as the team make their way from the Magnetic North to the finish line at the South Pole. - In preparation for the brutal Arctic and Antarctic conditions, Ramsey's expedition Nissan Ariya e-4ORCE will be modified and equipped by Arctic Trucks, a renowned specialist in polar vehicles. They will also provide logistical support and expertise to help plan a safe and accessible route through the most remote and hostile environments on Earth. Original Source : The Expedition – Pole to Pole EV 2022 report rates the US on EV readiness - The transportation sector accounts for approximately 30% of carbon dioxide emissions in the US alone. As the United States and the rest of the world for that matter, continue to lean into the paradigm shift of BEV transportation, more and more countries, states, and their consumers must prepare. A new 2022 report from LeasePlan USA has measured a number of data factors and scored an EV readiness index for all of the US. - The index was based upon five factors: Favorable state legislation and incentives Percentage of EVs on the road Charger to vehicle ratio Charger availability Climate suitability for EVs  Original Source : 2022 report rates the US on EV readiness: How prepared is your state? - Electrek Polestar invests in extreme fast charging battery company StoreDot -Polestar makes first financial investment in another company; becomes shareholder in Israel-based extreme fast charging pioneer StoreDot - StoreDot is pioneering the development of silicon-dominant extreme fast charging batteries for electric vehicles. The Israel-based company aims to produce batteries for EVs capable of charging up to 160 km of range in just five minutes, by 2024. - As part of the strategic deal, Polestar is collaborating with StoreDot to explore adapting and applying their technology to proof-of-concept Polestar cars. Test cases already being  explored include customising StoreDot's cell technology for Polestar cars, to enable faster charging and improved circularity. - The new funding comes as part of StoreDot's Series D investment round. Polestar is joining an impressive list of the company's global investors and partners, including Daimler, BP, VinFast, Volvo, Ola Electric, Samsung, TDK and EVE Energy. Original Source : Polestar invests in extreme fast charging battery company StoreDot (electriccarsreport.com) Vancouver Requires Gas Stations & Parking Lots Without EV Chargers To Pay $10,000 Per Year - The Vancouver city council has approved a new $10,000 annual fee for gas stations and commercial parking lots that don't install EV chargers by January 2025. - In order to comply with the new rule, gas stations will have to install at least one DC fast charger with a minimum charging speed of 50kW. Parking lots will need to install four Level 2 chargers in order to meet the guidelines. Lots with fewer than 60 parking spaces will be exempt from the new fees. - In a report to the city council, the city staff said, “There would be an incentive to invest in EV charging to avoid the higher annual license fees.” That report estimated it would take gas station and parking lot owners about 8 years to recoup their investment in EV charging equipment. Business owners cited lack of space, lack of available electricity supply, and limited demand for EV chargers as concerns. - According to a city staff report supporting the initiative, it will cost about $135,000 for a gas station to install a DC fast charger. The report also estimates it will cost an average of $100,000 to install four Level 2 EV chargers. Once they are in compliance, the normal yearly business license fee will remain at $163 for parking lots and $263 for gas stations. Original Source : Vancouver Requires Gas Stations & Parking Lots Without EV Chargers To Pay $10,000 Per Year - CleanTechnica VW CEO Follows GM's Lead, Reiterating Goal To Overtake Tesla By 2025 - CNBC asked Diess why Tesla is so highly valued. More specifically, why are investors so willing to pay a massive premium for Tesla over other automakers. Diess explained that markets are "always about the future.” He added: “Tesla currently is in the lead when it comes to EVs, probably also it is the most digital car company already and they have some advantages. We are still aiming at keeping up and probably overtaking by 2025 when it comes to sales.” Original Source : VW CEO Follows GM's Lead, Reiterating Goal To Overtake Tesla By 2025 (insideevs.com)  Tesla Research Partner Publishes Details About 100-Year Battery - If you follow Tesla, you're probably aware of Jeff Dahn and his team of researchers at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada. Dahn is the man responsible for the talk about a "million-mile" EV battery, which sounds fascinating, though perhaps not that out of reach. However, more recently, the team with ties to Tesla published a new paper about an energy-dense EV battery that could last 100 years. - Abstract or paper: ‘'NMC cells, particularly those balanced and charged to 3.8 V, show better coulombic efficiency, less capacity fade and higher energy density compared to LFP cells and are projected to yield lifetimes approaching a century at 25 °C.'' Audi is also offering a special model limited to 520 for the market launch. - The Ingolstadt company will only offer the Q4 in China in the Q4 40 e-tron and Q4 50 e-tron quattro variants. The 40 e-tron is powered by an electric motor in the rear with an output of 150 kW. The 50 e-tron quattro is a four-wheel drive with a maximum output of 220 kW. The top speed is also 160 km/h, just like in this country. - However, there is a difference with the battery. In Europe, the chemical storage unit has a usable energy content of 76.6 kWh. For the Chinese market, on the other hand, it has a capacity of 79.7 kWh, which, according to Chinese standards, should allow a range of up to 605 kilometres. The battery cells with the NCM 811 chemistry come from CATL. There are also differences in the charging time from 5 to 80 per cent: the Q4 40 e-tron takes 29 minutes and the Q4 50 e-tron quattro 36 minutes for the European versions. In China, however, both variants need a full 41 minutes for the charging process. Storedot is developing fast-charging batteries, but there is so much news and buzz about the company. I sat down with Doron Myersdorf to understand what is so special about StoreDot, their journey to date, and where they are heading. From the beginning, there has been a clear mission from StoreDot's side to achieve extremely fast-charging batteries. They have some 2,000 tests and experiments ongoing in world-class laboratories at all times. And attracting 200 million $ in funding from companies such as BP, Daimler, Vinfast, Ola Electric, and Volvo Cars, there is serious interest in scaling up the technology. And how to go from the early-stage failures from which you draw the learnings to a scaleup when failure is not an option.Globally, there is a need to establish probably some 100 gigafactories and we are only in the beginning of this journey. It was great getting the insights into the technology and the company also from Doron. Thanks for the participation; good luck with your continued commercial traction./Mika This is a public episode. Show #1404 Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily, you trusted source of information. It's Monday 14th March, it's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. VOLKSWAGEN AND FORD EXPAND COLLABORATION ON MEB ELECTRIC PLATFORM - Ford Motor Company and the Volkswagen Group are expanding their e-mobility partnership. Ford plans to produce another electric model for the European market based on the MEB platform - The automaker will also double its planned MEB volume to 1.2 million units over a six-year timeframe. - The first Ford model to use the MEB will be an all-electric crossover. It is expected to roll off the assembly line at the Ford Electrification Center in Cologne from 2023 and will give a further push to the automaker's e-mobility strategy. Ford had originally planned just one model based on MEB with a total volume of around 600,000 units. The company has not yet released any details about the second planned model. - The MEB platform, which can be used by various brands and manufacturers, already provides the technology base for ten electric models from five brands. Used to build approximately 300,000 units in 2021, it is one of the leading electric platforms worldwide. Original Source : https://www.volkswagenag.com/en/news/2022/03/volkswagen-and-ford-expand-collaboration-on-meb-electric-platfor.html FORD TO LAUNCH SEVEN NEW ELECTRIC VEHICLES IN EUROPE BY 2024 - Ford will launch seven new electric vehicles in Europe by 2024, with the three-strong range of new cars spearheaded by a new crossover utilising Volkswagen's MEB platform technology. - The three new electric cars will come under the new Ford Model E division, set up to separate the firm's battery-electric business from its combustion-engined one, now called Ford Blue, as part of a structural shake-up instigated by boss Jim Farley earlier this month. - The first car to be launched is expected to be based on the Volkswagen ID 4 and sit below the Ford Mustang Mach-E in Ford's line-up. It will be built at Ford's new state-of-the-art EV manufacturing centre in Cologne, Germany, launching in 2023 and being described officially as a “medium-sized crossover". - The cars will be joined in Ford's all-electric line-up by the Ford Puma EV, which will be sold as a stand-alone model from 2024. As a result of reworking Ford's production capacity to achieve this, the Ford Ecosport will cease production later this year. - The Transit Custom one-tonne van and Tourneo Custom multi-purpose vehicles will go on sale in 2023, followed in 2024 by a smaller, new Transit Courier and Tourneo Courier multi-purpose vehicle in 2024. Original Source : https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/ford-launch-seven-new-electric-vehicles-europe-2024 FORD COMMERCIAL VEHICLE BATTERY PLANT TO BE BUILT IN TURKEY - A newly announced Ford commercial vehicle battery plant figures to play a big role in those plans, too.  This new Ford commercial vehicle battery plant will operate under a newly formed joint-venture between Ford, SK On Co., Ltd., and Koc - the three companies plan to create one of the largest EV battery facilities in the European wider region. - The new joint venture is planned for Ankara and will manufacture high Nickel NMC cells for assembly into battery array modules. Production is currently expected to start as early as mid-decade with an annual capacity likely to be in the range of 30 to 45 Gigawatt hours. This new battery joint venture will receive support directly from the Turkish Government and will directly benefit large and small commercial vehicle operators across Europe, reducing energy and running costs and providing a significant contribution to CO2 reduction, according to Ford. Original Source : https://fordauthority.com/2022/03/ford-commercial-vehicle-battery-plant-to-be-built-in-turkey/ NEW ALL-ELECTRIC ABARTH 500 COMING SOON - Abarth is set to launch its first all-electric car, a rapid hot hatch based on Fiat's electric 500. Promising to deliver more power, sharper handling and more extroverted looks, it will also mark the first step in the brand's transition to an all-electric range of cars when it hits showrooms, possibly as soon as next year. - Speaking to Auto Express, Fiat CEO Olivier François said, ‘The looks are the same. We need to be a little bit more extrovert. Abarth is always a little bit over the top, with spoilers and wheels.' - In the standard car the mid-level and range topping versions get a 42kWh battery producing 116bhp, allowing for a 0-62mph time of 9 seconds and a 93mph top speed. Abarth's electric 500 will need a significant boost in power to match another upcoming retro hot hatch - the 215bhp Renault 5-based Alpine R5. Original Source : https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/abarth/500/357558/new-all-electric-abarth-500-due-soon?amp NEXT ALFA ROMEO SPIDER GOES ELECTRIC - Alfa Romeo is planning to crown a revitalised range with a new Spider sports car - ending a decade-long interregnum with no mainstream roadster in the range. - The Stellantis group has ‘locked and funded' a new model programme, in a bid to transform Alfa Romeo from everyone's theoretical dream car into a fast-growing stable of irresistible premium products. - Likely be spun off the STLA (pronounced Stella) Medium platform, due to come on stream in 2023. That offers up to 104kWh of battery capacity, and electric motors punching out up to 241bhp. But how many e-motors would the Spider deploy, and where would they be mounted? - ‘The question of rear-drive or all-wheel drive is on the table at the moment,' Alfa CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato tells CAR in an exclusive interview. ‘Why not rear-wheel drive – if I have the performance! Obviously I love rear-wheel drive, but if I lose Alfa power or torque because I'm only rear-wheel drive then I prefer to be all-wheel drive.' - But head of design Mesonero-Romanos will insist on strong proportions, including a long bonnet emulating history's great combustion-engined GTs. - Even the industry has axed many convertibles and coupes as sales have plummeted, it won't be easy. ‘Today, there's not a single electric cabrio: it is hard,' admits the head of design. ‘But we need to make people fall in love with cars again.'  And the Spaniard believes that as electrification eliminates tail-pipe emissions, public opinion might again favour cars that some currently consider unforgivably indulgent. Original Source : https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/spy-shots/alfa-romeo/spider/ A COMPANY AIMS TO SNUFF OUT RANGE ANXIETY BY OFFERING 100 MILES IN 5 MINUTES - With its “100inX” technology roadmap, the company aims to achieve a mileage of 100 miles per five minutes of charging by 2024 - The company is at the advanced stages of developing groundbreaking semi-solid state technologies and targets mass manufacturing of its fast-charging battery cells, 100in5, which offer 100 miles of travel in five minutes of charging in 2024, then improve its charging abilities by 40 percent to three minutes by 2028 with 100in3, and finally achieving complete charging in two minutes by improving an additional 33 percent by 2032 with 100in2 batteries. - ‘100in5' cells of StoreDot's XFC technology are already being tested in the real world by a number of original automotive equipment manufacturers. - proven battery chemistry can now be applied to any cell format, including both pouch and the 4680 family form factors, which are the formats increasingly favored by the majority of global car manufacturers. - XFC is a silicon-dominated anode that can accept lithium-ions much faster than a graphite anode can, thanks to silicon's lower resistance, but it also controls the tendency of silicon to swell when it accepts those ions that would otherwise generate damaging mechanical forces inside the battery. - The company became the first one to reveal fast-charging 4680 cylindrical cells that can be fully charged in 10 minutes last year, and produce silicon-dominant extreme fast charge (XFC) cells for electric vehicles on a mass production line. Original Source : https://interestingengineering.com/storedot-100-miles-in-5-minutes WSJ: APPLE PARTNER FOXCONN WANTS TO BUILD CHIPS AND CAR PARTS IN SAUDI ARABIA - Foxconn is reportedly in talks about opening a new $9 billion multipurpose facility in Saudi Arabia. The new factory would be able to make "microchips, electric-vehicle components, and other electronics." - The company is also sounding out the United Arab Emirates about the same project, potentially as a way to put pressure on Saudi Arabia as it works to get tax breaks and more. - Foxconn's links to Apple will no doubt make it an interested party here, especially given the fact that the plant will be able to produce parts for electric vehicles. The 2022 US Electric Vehicle Experience (EVX) ownership study showed that satisfaction among owners who are new to BEVs averaged 754 (on a 1,000-point scale), which is comparable to 766 among BEV veterans (those who have owned a BEV prior to their current one). https://gadgets.ndtv.com/transportation/news/electric-vehicle-ev-car-first-time-owner-traditional-gasoline-fuel-car-jd-power-2734490 PORSCHE TAYCAN DEMOLISHES KIA'S EV CHARGING RECORD A Porsche Taycan drove from Los Angeles to New York City in record time — at least in terms of charging the EV. On Friday, the German carmaker announced it broke the Guinness World Record for shortest charging time to drive across the U.S. in its $87,030 battery-powered car: 2 hours, 26 minutes, and 48 seconds. Last year, Kia set the record (and grabbed it from Tesla) with a 7 hour, 10 minute, and 1 second charging time while making the 2,834-mile journey in its soon-to-be-released EV6. Now the title belongs to the Taycan, Porsche's first EV, which used Electrify America's ultra-fast chargers across the U.S. on the cross-country trek. https://mashable.com/article/porsche-taycan-ev-charging-record STOREDOT CLAIMS EV BATTERY LIFE BREAKTHROUGH Fast battery charging  battery specialist StoreDot has unveiled technology that it claims will enable a dramatic extension the lifespan of electric vehicle (EV) batteries. The Israeli firm, whose core  XFC battery technology is said to provide a 50 per cent reduction in charging time, claims that this latest innovation will extend the lifespan of EV batteries thereby reducing their environmental impact and enabling drivers to maintain performance of their vehicles for many more years without compromising on range. It claims that the technology enables batteries to maintain a robust performance after 1000 cycles and 80% capacity, the point at which rival lithium-ion fast charging technologies start to rapidly deteriorate in performance.  Indeed, even after 1700 cycles, long after the accepted industry norm, StoreDot's batteries are said to maintain 70% of the original capacity. This potentially makes them effective  for second life usage in applications such as energy storage and grid load balancing. https://www.theengineer.co.uk/storedot-claims-ev-battery-life-breakthrough/ CONNECTICUT LAUNCHES 'COMPREHENSIVE' AND 'COMPLEX' CHARGING PROGRAM Connecticut utilities kicked off 2022 with the launch of a new electric vehicle (EV) program designed to spur the deployment of more than 60,000 charging ports by 2030, along with rates and demand response solutions to help manage the growing load. The Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) approved the nine-year program in July, clearing the way for Eversource and United Illuminating (UI) to offer $500 off the cost of a networked residential charger along with incentives for fast charging, fleets, multifamily buildings and other EV market segments. Connecticut finished 2021 with 21,382 EVs registered in the state, according to the group's web site, representing an almost 55% year-over-year increase. The state's long-term transportation strategy calls for 500,000 EVs on the road by 2030. The new charging incentive program is targeting 50,000 residential installations by 2030, almost 5,000 "destination" chargers at locations like stores and shopping malls, more than 7,000 in workplaces and serving light-duty fleets, and 550 direct current fast chargers. Baseline incentives for DCFC are $150,000, rising to $250,000 in underserved communities. https://www.utilitydive.com/news/connecticut-launches-comprehensive-and-complex-charging-program-to-supp/617838/ NATIONAL MARKETING CAMPAIGN FOR HYUNDAI'S IONIQ 5 Hyundai is comparing its evolution to that of other human innovations in the new national marketing campaign for the all-electric IONIQ 5. The campaign's theme, "Your journey at its most evolved," comes to life in two new commercials starring Jason Bateman. The 60-second hero spot titled, "History of Evolution," finds Jason Bateman in different historical eras explaining how initial inventions got better over time. The ad showcases how the IONIQ 5 represents the advancement of the electric vehicle comparing it to the evolution of human language, navigation, phones, and televisions. "History of Evolution" will first air this Sunday during both of professional football's conference championship games. The second spot, "Campsite," is a 30-second ad that highlights IONIQ 5's vehicle-to-load function that can power equipment to make camping much more comfortable. https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/national-marketing-campaign-for-hyundais-ioniq-5-illustrates-the-evolution-of-the-electric-vehicle-301470471.html OVER 10 PERCENT OF TESLA MODEL S EVS FAIL GERMANY'S STRICT INSPECTION AFTER 3 YEARS While Tesla has become one of the foremost players at the cutting edge of electric vehicle technologies, it has for a long time struggled to match traditional automakers in terms of industrial output and, crucially, quality. News from Germany brings the issue into clear focus, as Tesla's Model S has come out rather unfavorably versus its EV competition, as reported by Merkur.de. In Germany, rigorous automotive inspections are regularly carried out, first after the car has been in use for 3 years, and then every 2 years after that. The Smart Fortwo Electric Drive performed best of all, with only 3.5% showing any defects upon reporting for inspection. BMW's i3 was not far behind, clocking in with 4.7 percent having a notable defect. For comparison's sake, the average defect rate for all cars from 2-3 years old in Germany is 4.7 percent. However, other models weren't so lucky. 5.7% of Renault Zoes presented with defects in a below-average result. The worst by far, however, was the Tesla Model S. 10.7 percent of the model showed up for testing with a defect of some sort. https://www.thedrive.com/news/44068/over-10-percent-of-tesla-model-s-evs-fail-germanys-strict-inspection-after-3-years HENRIK FISKER TAKES ANOTHER SWING AT LUXURY CAR-BUILDING The Austrian manufacturer Magna Steyr is building the Ocean in front- and all-wheel-drive configurations. The base Ocean uses a 275-hp motor and offers a range of around 250 miles; all-wheel-drive Ultra and Extreme trims have two motors good for a combined 540 and 550 horsepower, respectively. Prices will start under $40,000. The Ocean is the closest to market, scheduled to begin deliveries in November. What's different with the Ocean? Let's say there are three fundamental things that I learned from the Karma. No, four. One, timing is everything. Number two, you've got to have enough money from the beginning to the end of the launch. I didn't want to really kick off this program until we had a billion dollars, which we raised last year. You can't build something start-stop. That kills you. So, number two, get all the money. Number three, you have to look at technology and assess the risk. Battery is the biggest risk in [electric] cars, so we spent a long time working closely on a deal with CATL [Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd., a lithium-ion battery manufacturer]. What's number four? The manufacturing of the vehicle—we need a solid manufacturing partner. https://www.caranddriver.com/features/a38870530/henrik-fisker-takes-another-swing-at-luxury-car-building/ LUCID AIR DREAM EDITIONS EMERGE ON EBAY: ALL PRICED OVER $200,000 The Lucid Air entered the market on October 30, 2021, but the initial Dream Edition of 520 cars (which equals the 520 miles/837 km of EPA range) have been fully booked for a long time. WILL TESLA SELL OVER 1.5 MILLION ELECTRIC CARS IN 2022? - The starting point is over 936,000 in 2021. Assuming that the rate of 300,000+ units per quarter would be maintained for all of 2022, the company would be at 1.2 million total. - In terms of new plants, according to the latest reports, Tesla Giga Austin in Texas should start production soon, and Tesla Giga Berlin in Grünheide near Berlin, Germany also appears ready to start production. - If those two new plants would add 300,000 together, with a maintained rate from Q4 by the plants in California and China, the total would then exceed 1.5 million. That's 600,000 additional BEVs in a year. Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/558267/tesla-ev-sales-2022-forecast/ 4 MILLION PEOPLE WILL DRIVE TESLAS BY THE END OF 2022 - According to our data, Tesla has delivered by the end of 2021 more than 2,335,000 all-electric cars, which is by way more than anyone else. - This number includes more than half a million Model S/Model X and more than 1.8 million Model 3/Model Y. - considering the recent production rate of 308,600 units in Q4 2021, we should see 2.5 million total and 2 million Model 3/Model Y in February/March. - Assuming 1.5 million new Tesla cars in 2022, there would be over 3.8 million total, maybe more, depending on what the current year will bring. 4 million Teslas would be a tremendous achievement. Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/558272/4-million-teslas-2022-forecast/ FORD F-150 LIGHTNING PRICING ANNOUNCED - Ford announced pricing and more details about the Ford F-150 Lightning, which later this week will be available for order (by reservation holders, in batches). As we know, there are four versions of the truck, Pro, XLT, Lariat and Platinum. Production of all four types will begin in Spring. MSRP price of Ford F-150 Lightning in the U.S.:  Pro: $39,974 XLT: $52,974 Lariat: $67,474 Platinum: $90,874 - The Pro version comes with the Standard Range Battery for up to 230 miles (370 km) of expected EPA range. There is also the Extended Range Battery that extends the range up to 300 miles (483 km) - optional in the case of XLT and Lariat ($10,000), and standard in the Platinum trim. - there is a Pro version with the Extended Range Battery ($10,000 option) but it's envisioned only for fleets. - According to the previous report, the difference between the two battery options is 33 kWh of usable battery capacity:  Standard Range Battery: 98 kWh Extended Range Battery: 131 kWh Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/558716/ford-f150-lightning-pricing/ F-150 Lightning Options Add Up To Rivian Territory Real Fast - The Lightning really begins to pale when you start adding luxuries, like heated seats. Butt warmers require equipment group 312A, which also includes Ford's CoPilot 360 2.0 Level 2 driver assist suite, a power tailgate and a heated leather steering wheel in addition to other, less noteworthy bells and whistles. That's another $9,500 on the sticker. - Couple the extended range battery with 312A to get the Lightning relatively close to the R1T's base spec in terms of interior comforts and performance, and you're spending $74,169 including destination. - Poking around both electric pickups' build-and-price tools, here's the impression I get: the F-150 Lightning is obviously the more affordable truck and actually attainable for those with less to spend. However, if you plan on checking boxes for options, the R1T will quickly become the better value. For $60K-$70K, it's the more compelling package. RIVIAN PLANS ON DELIVERING 1,000 R1T MODELS BY THE END OF 2021 - Only last week it had been revealed that Rivian's production was going at a snail's pace with it just managing to manufacture two cars per day on an average. But now it is slowly ramping up. As of the end of October, it has produced 180 R1T electric pickup trucks and delivered 156 of them. - Rivian says that production ramp-up will happen in December. By the end of this year, it wants to make a total of 1,135 vehicles. - It wants to make 1,200 R1T models, while it will slowly start production of the R1S SUV and make 25 units of it as well. On top of this, it will even manufacture 10 units of an electric delivery van it has to make for Amazon.  Overall, the plan is to deliver 1,000 R1T models, 15 R1S models,s and all 10 EDV's it makes for Amazon in December itself. - Rivian believes it will have a backlog of orders all the way into 2023 and so far, it seems like production of the current orders alone will take two years to complete. Rivian however also notes that it has the capacity to make 150,000 vehicles annually but this level will be reached only in 2024. After updates, its plant will also be able to handle up to 200,000 vehicles. The electrified GV70 will be produced at Hyundai's Alabama plant, and will mark the first EV manufactured in the US by the Korean automotive umbrella. With this decision, Hyundai looks to make a larger impact on the growing EV market in the US, and take advantage proposed subsidies for electric vehicles produced on US soil. - According to a report from Business Korea, Hyundai Motor shared its decision to begin US manufacturing with its labor union during a job security committee meeting at its Asan plant in South Korea. - The company is planning to begin manufacturing early next year at its US facility in Montgomery, Alabama. This plant currently manufacturers several different ICE Hyundai models, as well as various combustion engines, but will now shift toward EV manufacturing beginning with the GV70 EV. Each 10 x 22-foot rectangle holds 20 battery packs that once powered Nissan Leafs. But they've lost some of their juice. Inside a car, they can no longer power speedy accelerations, and their 85-mile ranges have been reduced to about 55 miles. - But the batteries still work. Research suggests they may retain two-thirds or more of their original capacity. So for the past 18 months, these batteries have been living a second act: storing energy from nearby rows of solar panels. Their owner, B2U Storage Solutions, wants to know how effectively, and for how long, they can do that. - By 2030, retired EV batteries could provide 200 gigawatt-hours of energy storage globally each year, according to analysis from the consulting firm McKinsey—roughly 50 times the annual output of the Hoover Dam. B2U wants to be a part of that. - One question: Who owns the reused batteries, and who's responsible if something goes wrong? Automakers know they may be blamed if one of their old batteries is involved in a fire. - B2U's Lancaster project looks promising. The company says its solar panels generate up to 1.65 megawatts of power, while its retired Nissan Leaf batteries can retain 10 megawatt-hours of storage—about as much as the average US home uses in a year. Freeman says the company is profitable, and planning expansions. The certainty and consistency that this advancement provides could also improve residual values of vehicles, lowering leasing costs and further benefitting both consumers and global automotive manufacturers utilizing the technology. - StoreDot is now making rapid advancements in extreme fast charging lithium-ion batteries for use in the automotive sector, increasing the number of miles per minute of charge. It is currently shipping samples to global car makers for real-world testing and remains firmly on track to deliver mass-produced XFC batteries, which deliver a 50% reduction in charging times at the same cost, by 2024. What's it all about? Extreme fast charging of electric vehicles! I love batteries, and cars, and of course electric vehicles, and I've been watching Storedot for some time, and how they are creating batteries that can charge a car fully in 5 minutes. Now I don't mind a 30-40 minute charge whilst stopped at a service station, or trickle charging at home, but for some people it's still a barrier to entry, and faster charging will remove another excuse for adoption, and make it easier for us all. A great story of cross discipline research and collaboration. I hope you enjoy the episode. About Doron Myersdorf As the CEO of StoreDot, Doron brings vast experience in business and technology management to StoreDot. Prior to founding the company, he served as senior director of SanDisk SSD Business Unit (NASDAQ: SNDK), establishing and managing the division in Israel, building product strategy, marketing and business development, resulting in sales to leading laptop makers amounting to over $100M in revenue in under 3 years. Previously, he was VP Flash and Operations of systems, a flash memory global leader, where he managed strategic sourcing of $1B annually, resulting in annual revenue of over $1.5B. Doron's diverse record also includes founder and CEO of InnerPresence, a Silicon Valley security software company, and co-founder and VP business development of Siftology, a pioneer in interactive media search. Earlier, as Partner at Tefen – Semiconductor Operations Management, Doron managed US West Coast operations, in charge of the design and setup of over 40 semiconductor, pharmaceutical and biotech manufacturing facilities worldwide. Doron holds PhD in R&D Management (1994), MSc in information systems (cum laude, 1991) and BSc in Industrial Engineering Management (cum laude, 1989) - all from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. About StoreDot: StoreDot is a pioneer and leader of extreme fast charging (XFC) batteries that overcome the critical barrier to mainstream EV adoption – range and charging anxiety. The company has revolutionized the conventional Li-ion battery by designing and synthesizing proprietary organic and inorganic compounds, making it possible to fully charge an EV in just five minutes – the same time it takes to refuel a conventional combustion engine vehicle. StoreDot's battery technology is optimized for best driver experience with XFC in Li-ion batteries, as well as future technologies for extreme energy-density (XED). Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Wednesday 25th August. It's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they've built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It's a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. 2022 LUCID AIR DREAM EDITION R EXCLUSIVE FIRST DRIVE - “The 2022 Lucid Air Dream Edition R is a 933-hp electric luxury sedan that can drive more than 500 miles on a single charge. I witnessed and experienced the latter firsthand. The former? Not so much, but you'll need to keep reading. There's also an Air Dream Edition P (P stands for Performance, R means Range) that makes 1,111 horsepower and offers a range of better than 450 miles. Now get this—they cost the same price. You choose: Do you want a sleek-looking EV with nearly 100 hp more than the Tesla Model S Plaid? Or do you want the car that makes more horsepower than any Lamborghini ever made, beats the Tesla Model S Long Range at its own game by more than 100 miles, and puts the very notion of range anxiety out to pasture?” - Jonny Lieberman- Author - My 2022 Lucid Air Dream Edition R had the potential to go 475 miles, whereas Rawlinson's could have traveled 517 miles on a single charge. That's a gauntlet dropped at the feet of you know who. Also, remember range anxiety? As with the internal combustion engine, it's a thing of the past. Original Source : https://www.motortrend.com/reviews/2022-lucid-air-dream-edition-r-exclusive-first-drive-review LUCID AIR DREAM EDITION: 500-MILE RATING LIKELY FOR RANGE VERSION - In Dream Edition Performance form, the Lucid Air will be able to accelerate to 60 mph in less than 2.5 seconds and make 1,111 horsepower, while the Range version does it in 2.7 seconds and makes 933 hp. Total torque for both versions is more than 738 pound-feet, and both versions will reach 168 mph—although we should note that prototypes have gone much faster. - Performance versions ride on staggered-width, specially developed Pirelli P Zero 21-inch tires, while the 500+ mile Range version rides on a 19-inch version of the same tires - It's built on a 924-volt architecture, with a 113-kwh battery pack, and will be able to regain up to 20 miles per minute at 350-kw CCS DC fast chargers (utilizing peak charge rates of over 300 kw), with unlimited Electrify America charging included for three years. - It will be also be compatible with a bi-directional home charging station to enable car-to-grid functionality, and a 19.2-kw onboard charger can regain up to 80 miles per hour on 240V AC—at 80 amps, on a 100-amp circuit, with a special Connected Home Charging system to be installed by Qmerit. The trade fair, previously known internationally as the "Frankfurt Auto Show," is also coming to Munich for the first time. - We have newly included the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV, and it is now officially certain that the EQE will be shown. We have also added the VW ID.5 GTX and (on a speculative basis) the Polestar 3. · Highlighted Source : https://share.getliner.com/bBx7O/ · Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/528864/munich-iaa-electric-car-debuts/ - Audi's highlight will probably be the Grand Sphere, as the brand has already officially confirmed. - The BMW i4 electric sedan is one of the confirmed exhibits at the IAA. One of the highlights of the four-door model based on the new 4 Series Gran Coupé is the astonishing range of up to 590 kilometers according to the WLTP standard. - The Dacia Spring Electric is described by Dacia as the cheapest electric car on the market, and with a base price of around 20,000 euros - Mercedes has confirmed that the new EQE will also be shown - The Swiss company Micro is represented at the IAA, and rumor has it that it is showing the production version of the Microlino 2.0 at the show. - VW has announced the ID.5 GTX for the Munich show, again only with the red and yellow camouflage film. · Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/528864/munich-iaa-electric-car-debuts/6068864/ Jolly good! It's safe to say that we're still in the early years of EV station building, so most of the new stations really are aimed at suburban sprawl, urban centers, or linking up the two coasts—often producing no-go zones for electric cars if their owners want to visit a national park. - Electrify America has worked with Yosemite Westgate and Buck Meadows Lodge to build an EV charging station in Buck Meadows, California, with the goal of giving those driving to Yosemite National Park a spot to charge their EVs. The Yosemite Westgate and Buck Meadows Lodge station is located just 12 miles from this popular national park, and is not that far from other EA stations in Bishop, Oakhurst, and Bridgeport. After offering subsidies to the tune of 100 billion yen ($911 million) in fiscal 2012 to build charging stations and spur electric-vehicle adoption, charging poles mushroomed. - Now, with EV penetration only at around 1%, the country has hundreds of aging charging poles that aren't being used while others (they have an average lifespan of about eight years) are being taken out of service altogether. They can be booked for as little as £5.90 per hour. - Murray McAdam, Enterprise business rental sales manager for Scotland. “Local residents, business travelers, and tourists alike can now quickly switch to a rental vehicle after taking a train, ferry, bus, or plane, making their onward journey much more straightforward, especially to places that can only be accessed by car. The solution, which the company says it will make available as an open-source license, includes hardware and software enhancements that create a “booster” function. - StoreDot claims this will allow the battery to analyze charging station performance in real-time and adjust the battery to accommodate higher currents if so provided by the charge column. This, of course, requires communication between a vehicle's battery and charging system, thus making the open-source license a must for the start-up. Studies show that driving range and a lack of charging infrastructure are the primary reasons people do not consider electric vehicles when buying a new vehicle. StoreDot has it's own solution to eliminating range anxiety... the ability to fast charge an EV in 5 minutes. StoreDot's solution is to re-engineer the chemistry of the lithium-ion batteries most commonly used in EVs so that graphite is replaced by a nano-silicon formulation as the primary anode material with vastly superior performance.Guest: Doran Myersdorf - CEO Founder | StoreDot

It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   FORD MUSTANG MACH-E CALIFORNIA ROUTE 1 IS U.S.' CHEAPEST 300-MILE EV "Ford Mustang Mach-E California Route 1's full EPA range and efficiency rating has just emerged with a few more details, compared to the Monroney sticker that we have seen a month ago. It's the longest range and the most efficient version of the Mach-E, with the Extended Range battery (98.8 kWh) and rear-wheel drive, combined with a few additional elements, like the special aero wheel covers. The price of this model is effectively $43,400 (MSRP of $49,800)." says InsideEVs: "The combined EPA range is 305 mi (491 km)"   https://insideevs.com/news/477997/ford-mustang-mache-california-route1-epa-range/   BMW I4 TEASES TAIL-HAPPY ATTITUDE WITH ELECTRIC DRIFTS IN NEW VIDEO "BMW, like other automakers, are developing electric vehicles in anticipation of a complex and crowded future. The Bavarian brand is putting its all-electric i4 sedan through its final phase of driving dynamics testing, teasing the model at the same time. The crew produced a short video showing off the model's tail-happy attitude with i4 project leader David Ferrufino behind the wheel for the car's "final test drive."" says Motor1: "The video shows the coupe-like sedan drifting with ease, though it's too short for any real analysis. The car is still covered in camouflage, hiding its finer styling details, though the i4 Concept did provide a nice preview of what to expect. The i4 will feature model-specific damper technology designed to reduce dipping movements in the body. The i4 will arrive offering up to 530 horsepower (395 kilowatts) of power, which will be able to rocket the sedan from zero to 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in four seconds."   372 miles range (600kms) expected. Made in Munich. Sales begin in U.S. and Europe later in 2021. M-badged version rumored to be the first 'M' electric. Expect a BMW i4 M50, AWD.   Factory chief Robert Engelhorn: "“We are preparing our Munich plant for the future. Once the remodel is complete, we will be able to produce diesel, gasoline and hybrid vehicles, as well as the fully electric BMW i4, all on the same line, to respond flexibly to customer demand”.   https://www.motor1.com/news/481547/2021-bmw-i4-drift-teaser-video/   TESLA FREMONT GIGA PRESS MACHINE CAUGHT IN ACTION "The massive Giga Press machine was installed last year at Tesla’s Fremont factory. The machine is so big it had to be installed outside the factory, and a structure built around it to protect it from the elements. Since then drone flyovers around the building have given us glimpses of the single-piece cast aluminum rear underbodies produced by the machine for the Model Y." according to Drive Tesla Canada: "Thanks to a large opening in the roof of the building, we get to see what appears to be almost the entire process to make the rear underbody for the Model Y. There are likely other processes happening before the casting enters the area visible through the opening, but there is about 2 minutes between each time a casting is removed by a robotic arm. When the Model 3 was released its underbody featured over 70 parts. Tesla reduced that to two parts in the first Model Y’s, before moving to this single-piece casting, which was first spotted in a production vehicle last month."   Seems slow. Only 1440 a day. What do I know?! That's still 10k a week so more than they need.   STOREDOT LI-ION BATTERY "StoreDot announces the availability of its first-generation 5-minute charge battery engineering samples. This represents a significant milestone for the company in its mission to eliminate the range and charging anxiety of electric vehicles (EVs), demonstrating the commercial viability of XFC batteries for the first time via a small form-factor battery cell." StoreDot is releasing the first production batch of sample cells, which is targeted at showcasing the technology to potential EV and industry partners. This first-generation battery was used to demonstrate the full charge of a two-wheeled EV in just 5 minutes for the first time (see video) and can offer ultra-fast charging to a number of other industries, such as commercial drones and consumer electronics. The first-generation engineering samples demonstrate to EV OEMs and battery manufacturers the successful replacement of graphite in the cell's anode using metalloid nano-particles - a key breakthrough in overcoming major issues in safety, battery cycle life and swelling. StoreDot XFC batteries are designed to be produced on existing Li-ion production lines. StoreDot's strategic investors include BP, Daimler, Samsung Ventures and TDK.   NEWSOM’S $1.5 BILLION PLAN FOR ELECTRIC CARS SHIFTS REBATE MONEY TO EQUITY PROGRAMS "Gov. Gavin Newsom’s plan to spend $1.5 billion to speed up California’s move to electric vehicles would amount to a sharp change in the state’s strategy on who should receive subsidies for zero-emission cars." repots San Francisco Chronicle: "Newsom wants to erase most state funding for a popular rebate program for new-car buyers, money that has overwhelmingly gone to drivers with annual incomes above $100,000. Instead, he’s asking lawmakers to spend big in two other areas: building a large network of vehicle charging and refueling stations, and increasing subsidies to help lower-income buyers afford the higher price tag of electric models. The governor said his strategy would show that “it’s not just about expensive, fancy cars, and the rest of us are left behind.”"   https://www.sfchronicle.com/politics/article/Newsom-s-1-5-billion-plan-for-electric-cars-15891774.php   ELECTRIC CARS ARE BETTER FOR THE PLANET "Electric vehicles are better for the climate than gas-powered cars, but many Americans are still reluctant to buy them. One reason: The larger upfront cost. New data published Thursday shows that despite the higher sticker price, electric cars may actually save drivers money in the long-run." writes New York Times: "Massachusetts Institute of Technology calculated both the carbon dioxide emissions and full lifetime cost — including purchase price, maintenance and fuel — for nearly every new car model on the market. They found electric cars were easily more climate friendly than gas-burning ones. Over a lifetime, they were often cheaper, too. Hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles are about the same price as traditional cars, but cut emissions roughly in half. In the United States, the transportation sector is the largest source of emissions, most of which come from cars and trucks. Dr. Trancik estimates that an electric vehicle’s production emissions would be offset in anywhere from six to 18 months, depending on how clean the energy grid is where the car is charging.  Dr. Trancik’s team released the data in an interactive online tool to help people quantify the true costs of their car-buying decisions — both for the planet and their budget."   https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/01/15/climate/electric-car-cost.html   https://www.carboncounter.com/#!/explore   ELECTRIC VEHICLES CLOSE TO ‘TIPPING POINT’ OF MASS ADOPTION "Electric vehicles are close to the “tipping point” of rapid mass adoption thanks to the plummeting cost of batteries, experts say. The tipping point has already been passed in Norway, where tax breaks mean electric cars are cheaper. The market share of battery-powered cars soared to 54% in 2020 in the Nordic country" ays The Guardian: "The fall in battery prices in the past decade has been dramatic and much faster than most people predicted.  Battery packs passed the milestone of $100/kWh in 2020 for buses in China, said [James] Frith [Bloomberg NEF]. But he expected further manufacturing improvements to mean this would be the average price for all vehicles in 2023, making a small-car battery cost $3,000 and electric cars the same price as their conventional counterparts."   https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/jan/22/electric-vehicles-close-to-tipping-point-of-mass-adoption   HAS THE ELECTRIC CAR’S MOMENT ARRIVED AT LAST? "With scientists saying net fossil-fuel emissions must hit zero by mid-century to avoid the worst of climate change, China, Japan, and much of Europe have all been moving to ban the sale of new gas-powered vehicles by 2035, if not sooner. California, the world’s fifth largest economy, is also moving to ban sales of new non-hybrid gasoline-powered vehicles by 2035, as are a few other states." says National Geographic: "Just this week, Biden ordered the government to start investigating whether it can restore stricter fuel-economy standards that were weakened by Trump. But he also is eying procurement policies that require federal agencies to buy electric vehicles. He’s proposing incentives to encourage consumers to purchase clean-fuel cars and trucks and would like to offer money to get them to retire gas-guzzlers early. Biden also wants to boost the nation’s network of electric charging stations by half a million, while dumping money into research and innovation."   https://www.nationalgeographic.com/environment/2021/01/has-electric-car-moment-arrived-at-last/   QUESTION OF THE WEEK When did you first know you wanted to drive EV?   Send me your answer: hello@evnewsdaily.com   You can listen to all 970 previous episodes of this this for free, where you get your podcasts from, plus the blog https://www.evnewsdaily.com/ – remember to subscribe, which means you don’t have to think about downloading the show each day, plus you get it first and free and automatically.   It would mean a lot if you could take 2mins to leave a quick review on whichever platform you download the podcast.   And  if you have an Amazon Echo, download our Alexa Skill, search for EV News Daily and add it as a flash briefing.   Come and say hi on Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter just search EV News Daily, have a wonderful day, I’ll catch you tomorrow and remember…there’s no such thing as a self-charging hybrid.     PHIL ROBERTS / ELECTRIC FUTURE (PREMIUM PARTNER) BRAD CROSBY (PREMIUM PARTNER) AVID TECHNOLOGY (PREMIUM PARTNER) PORSCHE OF THE VILLAGE CINCINNATI (PREMIUM PARTNER) AUDI CINCINNATI EAST (PREMIUM PARTNER) VOLVO CARS CINCINNATI EAST (PREMIUM PARTNER) NATIONALCARCHARGING.COM and ALOHACHARGE.COM  (PREMIUM PARTNER) DEREK REILLY FROM THE EV REVIEW IRELAND YOUTUBE CHANNEL (PREMIUM PARTNER) RICHARD AT RSEV.CO.UK – FOR BUYING AND SELLING EVS IN THE UK (PREMIUM PARTNER)   DAVID AND LISA ALLEN (PARTNER) GARETH HAMER eMOBILITY NORWAY HTTPS://WWW.EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM/  (PARTNER) BOB BOOTHBY – MILLBROOK COTTAGES AND ELOPEMENT WEDDING VENUE (PARTNER) DARIN MCLESKEY FROM DENOVO REAL ESTATE (PARTNER) JUKKA KUKONEN FROM WWW.SHIFT2ELECTRIC.COM RAJEEV NARAYAN (PARTNER) IAN SEAR (PARTNER)   ALAN ROBSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALAN SHEDD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALEX BANAHENE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALEXANDER FRANK @ https://www.youtube.com/c/alexsuniverse42 ANDERS HOVE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ANDREA JEFFERSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ANDREW GREEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ASEER KHALID (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BÅRD FJUKSTAD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BRIAN THOMPSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BRUCE BOHANNAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHARLES HALL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHRIS HOPKINS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHRISTOPHER BARTH (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) COLIN HENNESSY AND CAMBSEV (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CRAIG COLES (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CRAIG ROGERS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAMIEN DAVIS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVE DEWSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID FINCH (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID MOORE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID PARTINGTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID PRESCOTT (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DON MCALLISTER / SCREENCASTSONLINE.COM (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) EDWYN CORTREEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ERIC HANSEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ERU KYEYUNE-NYOMBI (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) FREDRIK ROVIK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) GENE RUBIN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) GILBERTO ROSADO (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) GEOFF LOWE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) HEDLEY WRIGHT (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) HEINRICH LIESNER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) IAN GRIFFITHS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) IAN (WATTIE) WATKINS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JACK OAKLEY (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JAMES STORR (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JIM MORRIS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JOHN SCHROEDER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JON AKA BEARDY MCBEARDFACE FROM KENT EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JON MANCHAK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JUAN GONZALEZ (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) KEN MORRIS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) KEVIN MEYERSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) KYLE MAHAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LARS DAHLAGER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LAURENCE D ALLEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LEE BROWN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LUKE CULLEY (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MARCEL WARD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MARK BOSSERT (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MARTY YOUNG  (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MATT PISCIONE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MIA OPPELSTRUP (PARTNER) MICHAEL PASTRONE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MIKE WINTER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NATHAN GORE-BROWN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NATHANIEL FREEDMAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NEIL E ROBERTS FROM SUSSEX EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NICHOLAS MILLER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NIGEL MILES (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) OHAD ASTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PAUL RIDINGS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PAUL STEPHENSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETE GLASS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETE GORTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETER & DEE ROBERTS FROM OXON EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PHIL MOUCHET (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PHILIP TRAUTMAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RAJ BADWAL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RENE KEEMIK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RENÉ SCHNEIDER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RICHARD LUPINSKY (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ROB HERMANS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ROB FROM THE RSTHINKS EV CHANNEL ON YOUTUBE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ROBERT GRACE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RUPERT MITCHELL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) SEIKI PAYNE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) STEPHEN PENN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) STEVE JOHN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) THOMAS J. FRANCIA. Wednesday 23rd May 2018. First a word for any EV groups meeting up soon. Like the group organised by Mark Goudie (Pron: Gordy) who organises regular EV meet ups with other EV owners here in the UK, so hello to the Northwest England Owners group on Facebook, and all the information you share and conversation you have. Any other groups listening? Let me know I’ll give you a shout.   Mark also opened up the Tezla / Tessla debate – I think I just say what comes naturally BUT apologies to those who insist of Tessla, if I ever say Tezla I’m sorry. From now on I promise to try harder at Tessla.   STUDY PREDICTS INCREASE IN ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLES Starting with a study by Statista, reported by RideApart.com and then ono InsideEVs, which is like a russian nested doll of credit I'm giving there, they are forecasting global e-bike sales will reach approximately 40 million units sometime in 2023. That's a huge number, and it starts to make more sense when you realise 35million of the 40million will be in China. But even so, 5 million electric bikes is a big number for North America and Europe. They say: "Unsurprisingly, one of the strongest forces in the entire e-market equation is urban (and suburban) areas. An increasing amount of electric two-wheeler sales are coming from scoot-sharing services like BMW’s DriveNow program, or the San Francisco-based Scoot Network e-scooter sharing offering. Both of these services, in addition to buying large fleets of bikes, also serve as a sort of motorized, two-wheeled test-drive, introducing the non-riding public to life on two-wheels. The number of EV startups risen sharply for the last couple years as well, and signs point to that trend only intensifying."   https://insideevs.com/study-predicts-huge-increase-in-electric-motorcycle-sales-by-2023/?utm_source=bambu&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=industry   RIVIAN TO DEBUT 800-HP ELECTRIC TRUCK AT LA AUTOSHOW Detriot-based electric car startup Rivian Automotive is getting ready to take the stage later this year at the Los Angeles Autoshow and debut the company’s first electric truck. “according to Christian Prenzler for Teslarati. "Rivian is also creating an 800-HP version of the vehicle capable of more than 450 miles of range, making it an SUV having the longest all-electric range on the market" These will serve the popular American consumer truck segment which we don't have in the UK or Europe to such a large extent. It's easy to quote numbers on something not yet made, but they say 0-60 in 2.8 seconds. “It’s stiffer than a supercar,” said CEO RJ Scaringe in speaking with Engadget. “There are only a few cars in the world that are going to be as fast as ours, and we have a large five-passenger truck.” The price they say is in the $50K to $90K region which seems way too cheap for all that performance. Rivian have their factory, the old Mitsubishi plant in Illinois, which they bought in January 2017.   https://www.teslarati.com/rivian-800-hp-electric-truck-la-autoshow/   ADVANCED E-BUSES HIT ROADS QUICKER THAN EVS The latest long-term forecast from Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) shows sales of electric vehicles (EVs), increasing from a record 1.1 million worldwide last year to 11 million in 2025, and then surging 30million by 2030 which cost-parity with combustion is achieved. China will lead this transition, with sales there accounting for almost 50% of the global EV market in 2025 and 39% in 2030. The advance of e-buses will be even more rapid than for electric cars, according to BNEF’s analysis. It shows electric buses in almost all charging configurations having a lower total cost of ownership than conventional municipal buses by 2019. There are already over 300,000 e-buses on the road in China.   https://www.windpowerengineering.com/business-news-projects/advanced-e-buses-to-hit-the-roads-quicker-than-electric-vehicles/   CHINA CUTS CAR TARIFFS "China will cut tariffs on most imported cars to 15 percent from July 1, the finance ministry said on Tuesday following a thaw in trade tensions with the United States" says the UK's Daily Mail. Whilst Bloomberg say: "For Tesla, a tariff cut will provide a boon until they set up local production. Tesla has been working with Shanghai’s government since last year to explore assembling cars in China. China saying that it will allow foreign new-energy vehicle makers to fully own auto factories as early as this year removed a primary hurdle for Elon Musk."   https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-05-22/china-is-said-to-cut-car-import-duty-in-boost-for-lexus-bmw   http://www.dailymail.co.uk/wires/afp/article-5756777/China-says-cut-auto-import-tariffs-July-1.html   MODEL 3 PERFORMANCE COULD END UP BEING EVEN QUICKER Staying with Tesla and it seems Ryan McCaffrey from Ride The Lightning Tesla Podcast has a direct line to Elon - which some superfans of both would probably compare to that old saying about The Pope having a direct line to God. I'm joking. Mostly. However Ryan said on Twitter: It’s probably not *this* simple with manufacturing, but wouldn’t the robot just reach into the red caliper pile on the assembly line for the cars tagged as Performance? In other words, it’s just a different part (in practice if not technically so), not a different process." So he's talking there about the red brake parts seen on other performance models. To which Elon replied: "not promising anything, but we *might* be able to increase Model 3 Performance power output a little" However I think many buyers will be happy to stump up $54,000 for a very quick dual motor Model 3, rather than $78,000 (without Autopilot) for a stupidly quick Model 3. There will be those who always want the fastest, but basic dual motor would do me more than fine.   https://electrek.co/2018/05/22/tesla-model-3-performance-version-higher-power-output-teases-elon-musk/   DS3 DESTINED FOR PARIS MOTOR SHOW Maybe DS are feeling like they're being left out of the EV party because Rachel Burgess in Autocar point out: "DS will reveal the electric DS3 Crossback compact SUV, a rival to the Audi Q2, at the Paris motor show this October ahead of its launch in 2019. The EV variant of the new car, which will run alongside more traditional powertrains, will be available from launch and will offer a range of more than 124 miles on each charge. The urban-focused car is likely to have a 50kWh battery pack. DS product boss Eric Apode told Autocar that "DS has to lead [the electric] innovation" within the PSA Group. "This is also because of pricing. It [electric technology] has to start with premium brands because the prices will be high," he said. "Then, as the pricing decreases, it can go to the other brands."   https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/electric-ds-3-crossback-be-revealed-2018-paris-motor-show   MODEL 3 BRAKE ISSUES WILL BE SORTED SOON Finally on Tesla, Elon Musk has now admitted there was a braking issue with the Model 3. The braking issue was first pointed out by Consumer Reports. He said it can be fixed with a firmware update that the electric car maker will be rolling out in a few days. He said in a reply to Electrek: "Looks like this can be fixed with a firmware update. Will be rolling that out in a few days. With further refinement, we can improve braking distance beyond initial specs. Tesla won’t stop until Model 3 has better braking than any remotely comparable car."   https://www.cnbc.com/2018/05/22/teslas-musk-admits-model-3-braking-issue-promises-fix.html   BP INVESTS $20 MILLION IN FLASH BATTERIES CNBC report on more oil money flowing into electrons: "BP said its venture capital arm was investing in Tel Aviv-based StoreDot as it looks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in its operations. StoreDot develops so-called "flash batteries," lithium-ion batteries that it says can charge electric vehicles in a matter of minutes." "Ultra-fast charging is at the heart of BP's electrification strategy," Tufan Erginbilgic, chief executive of BP's downstream business, said in a statement on Tuesday. "StoreDot's technology shows real potential for car batteries that can charge in the same time it takes to fill a gas tank." The range on their batteries is said to be 300miles but the product won't even start to be commercialised until 2019.   https://www.cnbc.com/2018/05/22/bp-invests-in-israeli-battery-startup-storedot.html   NISSAN: VEHICLE TO GRID SERVICES WILL NOT DRAIN EV BATTERIES Finally Nissan Europe chief Gareth Dunsmore has responded to suggestions that V2G, which is being led in many ways by Nissan because of the CHAdeMO connector, and he says: "“It is not draining the battery, it is using the battery to balance the grid. It uses the battery, but it also puts energy into the battery; it is going up and down rather than draining. Draining the battery is not where the value is for the energy company or the customer.” Accoring to The Energyst: Mike Kerslake, UK technical manager for Chinese battery firm BYD, said V2G services for those customers may require a change of service model in terms of battery ownership and management. “Perhaps the vehicle owner doesn’t own the battery, but it is [instead] leased from an energy resources company, who also gets value from the vehicle to grid capability,” said Kerslake. “So there is quite a potential change in the way it works.”   https://theenergyst.com/nissan-vehicle-grid-services-will-not-drain-ev-batteries/     I’d love to spread the word about electric cars so, if you can, share this somebody who might be interested.
