now there's a live dog. Did you watch Goodfellas back in 1990 and think “Hey, this should be a wacky comedy with Rick Moranis and Steve Martin”? If so, you're in luck. You're in so much luck.Like Goodfellas, My Blue Heaven is loosely based on the story of Henry Hill, the mobster who went into the witness protection program. Goodfellas ends with a vision of Hill standing in front of an dull suburban tract home, haunted and disappointed, an anonymous schnook. My Blue Heaven starts at that very moment, as Steve Martin's smooth criminal slides into suburbia like a streak of mercury. There, restless and bored, he meets his case handler, a buttoned-down bureaucrat played by Rick Moranis. From that point on the film becomes a perverse buddy comedy, as Martin teaches Moranis to loosen his buttons a bit, and Moranis teaches Martin… well, nothing really. But he writes an extremely entertaining book! Listen to Adam and Aidan talk about sartorial tips and merengue lessons below, or find us on your podmaker of choice.
Listener suggestions are rated on the Yachtski Scale, with songs by Ronnie Laws, Rick Moranis, and Mylon LeFevre.

Tonight on the show, we're diving into a trio of cult-favorite musicals that blur the lines between horror, comedy, camp, and tragedy: The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975, starring Tim Curry), Little Shop of Horrors (1986, starring Rick Moranis), and the 2001 filmed stage production of Jekyll and Hyde: The Musical, featuring David Hasselhoff in a career-defining dual performance. At first glance, these might seem like wildly different productions—ranging from glam-rock alien chaos to doo-wop-infused plant horror, to a dark, gothic tale of split identity—but together they tell a broader story about how musical theater has embraced monstrosity as metaphor. Each of these works asks: What happens when the line between man and monster blurs? What desires are we really afraid of? And can we sing our way through the madness?Tim Curry's Frank-N-Furter is a force of nature—part scientist, part seducer, part destroyer. Rocky Horror was a revolution in form and content, upending gender norms, mocking genre tropes, and creating an interactive cult ritual that has endured for nearly 50 years. It's a cultural milestone not just because of what it is, but because of what it unleashed—a safe space for the weird, the queer, and the outsider.Rick Moranis' Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors gives us a very different kind of mad scientist: a nebbish pushover corrupted by power, ambition, and a bloodthirsty plant. The film (based on the Howard Ashman and Alan Menken stage musical) blends 1960s Motown stylings with Faustian tragedy, capturing the dark side of the American dream—and warning us what happens when we feed the things that promise us love and success. And then there's Jekyll and Hyde, the most classical of the three, but perhaps the most psychologically intense. Hasselhoff's performance—often memed, but undeniably committed—gives us a musical take on Robert Louis Stevenson's timeless story of duality. It's a sweeping, gothic powerhouse of repression, temptation, and the dangers of scientific hubris—a thematic cousin to both Frank-N-Furter and Seymour in ambition and eventual ruin.Reviewing these three together allows us to trace how musicals have uniquely adapted horror and moral ambiguity to the stage and screen. From parody to tragedy to grand melodrama, these stories use music to heighten emotion, build absurdity, and expose the deep fears and fantasies lurking behind every monstrous transformation. So grab your fishnets, your gardening shears, or your top hat and cane—we're about to explore the darker, stranger side of musical theater, where the monsters are often the ones singing the loudest.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

Another time, another place. That time? 1984. That place? The movies! Where a rock & roll fable was born, yet no one watched it at the time. In America, anyway. In Japan, someone saw it. A few someones. A few someones, that would go on to make some of the coolest anime and video games around. Now, in 2025? It's the perfect time to go back to that another time, and another place. SNL celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2025 but we didn't start watching it until the 1990s. As Canadian kids with bedtimes in the 80s, we had more exposure to SCTV, the incredible sketch comedy show that featured an outrageously talented cast from Second City. Andrea Martin, Catherine O'Hara, Joe Flaherty, Eugene Levy, Dave Thomas, John Candy and Harold Ramis and later Rick Moranis and Martin Short on one show! In this episode, we reminisce with our good friend, Marcus J, and revisit our favourite movies featuring SCTV alumni. It's a beauty, eh!

Audrey II was more than just a mean green mother from outer space. Back in 1984, and voiced by Levi Stubbs, he was the main attraction of the movie musical, Little Shop of Horrors. Based on an off-Broadway show, which itself was based on a 1960 horror comedy of the same name, the Frank Oz directed flick achieved cult classic status on VHS and Beta. But now, decades later, are we still singing its praises? Are abusive boyfriends, exploitive bosses, and blood-thirsty plants the stuff of sing-a-longs? Or is this Rick Moranis' finest hour? Stand-upcomedian en muzikant Johnny Trash is ook een Disneyfan. Dat weet ik, omdat hij vorig jaar nog last minute naar mijn boekvoorstelling van ‘Do you speak Disney?' is gekomen. The First Avenger' zou maken.

Club Paradise begins in Chicago Illinois where a retired firefighter played by Robin Williams takes his insurance money and opens a resort at a tropical island. Directed by Harold Ramis, this movie could've been another lampoon-esque classic but instead gets too busy with various themes and subplots muddy up the films cohesiveness. Rick Moranis and Eugene Levy are both funny in this.
We're celebrating 100 episodes this week by returning to not one but two recurring themes from nearly two years of the podcast: the filmography of Steve Martin and the belief that February belongs to romance -- two concepts that combine decently well with some magical realism in our movie of the week, an absurdist take on life and love in Los Angeles that still feels like a cutting send-up of the city more than 30 years later. It's 1991's L.A. Story, directed by Mick Jackson, written by Steve Martin, and starring Martin, Victoria Tennant, Richard E. Grant, Marilu Henner, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kevin Pollak, Patrick Stewart, Frances Fisher, Iman, Larry Miller, Woody Harrelson, Rick Moranis and John Lithgow. So tonally cartoonish that it feels Martin is moments away from being crushed by a grand piano and popping out the top of it unscathed at any moment, that silliness conceals an earnest goodness about love, the universe, and everything finding a way to work out as it should. Are these beliefs that go hand-in-hand with the movie's wacky exterior, or does the film find itself at odds with itself? Find out, as we dive into a movie Hayley recently picked up on VHS. Plus: J Mo's still sore from having climbed into the wrestling ring over the weekend! If you'd like to watch the movie before listening along to our discussion, L.A. Story is currently streaming for free on the CTV app in Canada at the time of publication. Other works discussed in this episode include the video games Mario & Luigi: Brothership and Balatro, as well as TMNT: Mutant Mayhem, Only The Brave, 24, The Departed, The Nice Guys, Mission: Impossible - Fallout, Jurassic Park, the JJ Abrams Star Trek trilogy, the Disney Star Wars sequel trilogy, A Goofy Movie, Bowfinger, The Lonely Guy, Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid, Cheaper By The Dozen, The Tooth Fairy and They Came Together. Feb2ary Is For Lovers continues next week as we run it back for another 100 episodes beginning with Nicolas Cage and Cher in 1987's Moonstruck, which may be the most readily available film we've ever covered as it's currently streaming on Amazon Prime, Crave, Starz, Criterion Channel, Tubi and Hoopla as we release this. Thank you so much for listening for 100 episodes, or however long you've been on the ride. We love you, and see you at the movies!!

Is it a Christmas movie? Not in the conventional sense, but yes, it takes place over Christmas and culminates with a bunch of New Yorkers singing on New Year's Eve: it's the return of the Ghostbusters in the underrated Ghostbusters II! Starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Sigourney Weaver, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis, Annie Potts, and Peter MacNicol. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thegenxfiles/support
If Rivers Cuomo of Weezer were to walk past you on the street, you probably wouldn't notice him…if you did, you might think that this stranger kinda looked like Louis Tully, the nebbish accountant played by Rick Moranis in a couple of “Ghostbusters” movie. Chances are he'd be wearing skinny jeans, a t-shirt, a hoody, maybe a baseball cap, indistinguishable from a hundred other short, slight, guys with glasses that you encountered that day…and that's just the way he likes it. But Rivers Cuomo is an unlikely sort of rock star and is extremely committed to being a rock star—or at least doing the things that he hopes will keep him at that level. He's highly educated, deeply introspective, very private, and always looking to learn something new, be studying the mysteries of writing the perfect song to computer programming to intense forms of meditation to careful study of the music industry… and one day, he wants to make a weezer movie—not a tour film, but some kind of actual movie. Weezer has been together for more than 30 years…there have been no break-ups and reunions…there haven't even been any official hiatuses. But Rivers has also taken up pickleball with a vengeance…he's a very good chess player, too…he's fascinated with Japanese culture. What else?...PETA once voted him “the sexiest celebrity vegetarian,” although he confesses to hating carrots…he doesn't have a middle name because his parents wanted him to choose one when he got old enough—but he never got around to it. Fox filmed a pilot for a tv show based on the years rivers went to harvard…and he once had a pet squirrel named “Mr. Peanutbutter. That's just a start…think we can fill up an entire program with fascinating facts about Rivers Cuomo and Weezer …I bet we can. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
In our biggest episode to date, Mike, Brian, and Stephen strap on the proton backs and try not to cross the streams as we take on the mother of all 80s comedies: GHOSTBUSTERS. Something this funny, this quitable and this memorable could only come from a group that defined comedy in the 70s and 80s, and there's nothing like watching Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, and Dan Akroyd just hang out and do there thing. We talk about the trials and tribulations it took to bring this film to life, as nothing like it had existed before. We discuss its place in the pantheon of 80s movies and wonder where this kind of family friendly movie went. We talk about the gags and ghosts, from Stay-Puft, to Rick Moranis' loveable loser Louis, to a theme song you just couldn't get out of your head, and everything in between. Most of all, we answer the age old question, "Does bustin' make you feel good?" If you like what you're listening to make sure to subscribe wherever you get your podcast feeds. Who you gonna call? It's hard to understate just how large of an impression this movie made on the kids who grew up in the 1980s (and 90s). This movie felt like it was EVERYONE'S favorite movie. Deadpanned Bill Murray, nerdy Harold Ramis, golden retriever Dan Akroyd, skeptical/wtf Ernie Banks, goofy Slimer, possessed Sigourney Weaver, that-neighbor Rick Moranis...it's alchemy. One of those films that captured magic. We're watching it!
