The best cinematography is the one that most faithfully reflects what the director seeks to convey. Andrew Wehde is a cinematographer, known for his work on Bo Burnham's Movie, Eighth Grade, and for the Netflix series, Grand Army. He entered the Digital Cinema Program in DePaul University, one of the most important digital schools. In that place, he began to have access to all the equipment and took advantage of them to work with models and made short films. That's where he developed his expertise in naturalistic lighting, his understanding of lenses, and photography. All that work from a very young age made him realize that he wanted to work more with a group of people than alone, and he focused on making cinematography. He is currently working on an Amazon original series called Lightyears and was part of Queenpins, an action drama film with Vince Vaughn and Kristen Bell. Here is what you'll learn: What made Andrew Wehde want to pursue a career in the film industry. How Andrew likes the execution and the satisfaction of seeing something finished made from scratch. The importance of trusting the people around you to elevate the work you do.Roles you need to have while working; technical side, creative side, managerial side and a political side to play the game and understand your role.Andrew is focused on making sure he can execute what the director envisions. His next project; Queenpins, a beautiful film which he thinks has incredible visual execution. Why Andrew doesn't like cinematography that stands out, but one that tells the story well.To learn more about Andrew, follow him on Instagram, or visit his website.Interested in knowing more about the show? A load of old rubbish, or the secret to unlocking everything you've ever hoped and dreamed of? Those are the two sorts of reactions that you get when the subjects of ‘Manifestation' and ‘The Law of Attraction' come up. Like many, I watched ‘The Secret' and was ever so slightly skeptical that if I visualised a Maserati turning up in my garage it would happen … (I actually don't have a garage, so I would have been doubly impressed!) But over the past two years I've been actively exploring the Law of Attraction and manifestation and I've had results with it that I can't ignore… that's why I wanted to bring Andrew Kap onto the show. Andrew is the author of “The Last Law of Attraction Book You'll Ever Need To Read” and it offers readers a different take on it from the usual books you'll find. It addresses WHY people who get excited about trying it still can't manage to get in the habit of using these methods for just five minutes a day. The book has enjoyed continued success, including over 1,500 five-star rave reviews, #1 Best Seller status in multiple categories on Amazon, and a growing YouTube channel devoted to it. I'm getting the low down on his work and how he manages skeptical audiences too! Whatever your current position on it, I hope you'll listen with an open mind to what he has to say … you never know it might change your life! What you'll learn: How Andrew discovered the Law of Attraction and how he used it when his life fell apart. The results he's personally experienced using it in his life and business. Why we consistently fail to get results in different areas of our lives, even though we know exactly what we need to be doing. How Andrew was taking a risk when he chose the title of his book. Why Andrew didn't include many stories or social proof in his book. How Andrew presents this topic to a cold audience to give his message the best chance of landing. Why you don't need to believe in it or care about the Law of Attraction for it to work. The side benefits of practicing gratitude in your life. The biggest obstacle to people getting results using the Law of Attraction in their life and business. Why you should let go of the ‘when' and the ‘how' and surrender to enjoying the experience of living in the future you want right now. How mindfulness and the Law of Attraction are connected. The ‘Time Lapse' method that Andrew used to bring abundance into his life and how to use it. The five minute gratitude tool that can get you results in just five minutes a day. Why there's no way to do these techniques wrong if you're having fun. The ‘Story Scripting' and ‘Instant Replay' methods that can make you the movie director of your life. How Andrew uses speaking and storytelling build his audience and get his message out there. How your ego is keeping you from succeeding with the Law of Attraction and in other parts of your life or business. Why you shouldn't be looking for a perfect life. In his early 20's, Andrew and his brother Aaron amassed several million dollars of real estate within a 2 year period. They have bought over 300 houses, and are currently doing 4-6 house deals per month. What you'll learn about in this episode: What big deals Steve and Andrew were able to complete in the month of January, and why both have had successful months with their investments Steve shares the biggest mistakes he sees in new investors, and he explains why believing in yourself and having the right mindset is key Andrew explains why too many new investors go into a deal with only one strategy and box themselves in, and why multiple strategies and being flexible are powerful assets Why delegation is important for maximizing the amount of deals you can do, and why following up on your leads is critical Why it is important to avoid taking too low of a non-refundable option deposit, and why you should set aside money from the deals you do for when you have to make a payment Why taking massive, intentional action is the only way to move the needle, and why paying too much is a painful pitfall to avoid Why Andrew regrets cashing out of too many deals and wishes he had stayed in some of his past deals Why there's a major difference between a tenant and a lease optioned tenant-buyer, and why lease option is always the preferable solution Why many new investors give up too soon rather than sticking with the system, and why lack of money should never be an obstacle Why being too focused on cost control is a bad idea, and why spending a little money to make a lot of money is always worthwhile Additional resources: Register for Ron's Webinar: www.TheMentorPodcast.com/pc Get Ron's $599 Wholesaling course for FREE when you join his Gold Club for ONLY $59 a month!

Darren Grimes' guest today has a new book out next month, ‘Free Speech and Why It Matters’, which will be published on February 25th. The book comes at a time when the democratically elected President of the US can be kicked off of social media platforms, when banks that used to provide loans to his businesses shut off access to their capital and the new social media Twitter alternative, Parler, loses access to its hosting platform via Amazon Web Services. All of these things suggest there's a real problem when it comes to the new, de facto public square. In realising that we have a problem my guest argues that a new form of social justice activism, which perceives language as potentially violent, has prompted a national debate on where the limitations of acceptable speech should be drawn. So where should they be drawn and how do we go about doing it? That guest is of course Andrew Doyle, the writer, comedian and good friend of Twitter legend Titania McGrath. 00:00 - Welcome from Darren Grimes 02:15 - Why we need a book on the importance of free speech 06:35 - Andrew Doyle's religious upbringing 09:45 - How religious are today's social justice movements? 14:51 - Why Andrew reads his Twitter replies 21:40 - The 'gaslighting' around Parler and 'far-right' accusations 33:08 - How do free speech advocates tackle 'disinformation' 37:55 - Does Andrew Doyle still identify as 'Left wing'? 40:44 - Being obsessed with identity politics isn't 'Left wing' 53:27 - Will Titania McGrath place us in the gulags soon? 57:57 - Why we all need to fix the bravery deficit 01:05:34 - Closing remarks Buy Andrew's book: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Free-Speech-Why-Matters/dp/034913538X Follow Andrew on Twitter: https://twitter.com/andrewdoyle_com ****** To make sure you never miss a single Reasoned video, click here to subscribe: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCX469QlvW5gdPCMek-d-kuQ?sub_confirmation=1 Reasoned Conversations with Darren Grimes is also available as a podcast on all good podcast platforms: https://audioboom.com/channels/5028757 Reasoned is fan-funded through monthly and one-time donations: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-us-fund-and-grow-reasoned ****** Follow Reasoned on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ReasonedUK Follow Reasoned on Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ReasonedUK Follow Reasoned on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ReasonedUK Follow Darren on Twitter: https://twitter.com/darrengrimes_ Follow Darren on Facebook: https://twitter.com/thedarrengrimes Follow Darren on Instagram: http://Instagram.com/darrengrimes_

Andrew Schena is the owner and founder of Capital Equity Partners and co-host of the podcast Cash Flow Giants. Capital Equity Partners is a real estate syndication company that develops real estate investment strategies. They focus on acquiring and operating multifamily assets in emerging markets across the U.S. Andrew believes in the power of shifting your mindset in order to live a great life. He also underlines the importance of harnessing personal growth to drive growth in your business. Here are some power takeaways from today’s conversation: Why Andrew started a podcast The first thing Andrew ever sold How his mindset shifted through a Tony Robbins organization The benefits of attending Tony Robbins’ live events You can’t have business growth without personal growth. How Andrew started and grew Capital Equity Partners Building one business after another within one silo Increasing the value of a parcel through the ZBA (zero balance account) process Influence marketing vs. direct marketing Their criteria for buying land and their land play How being an operator in real estate makes you a better investor Episode Highlights: Balancing Business Growth and Personal Growth You can't talk about business growth without discussing personal growth. You have a life outside of your business. Especially once you start to have a family, you can't spend all of your time on business. Otherwise, you'll ruin the relationships in your family. You have to create those types of freedoms. There are plenty of people who are incredibly successful but are completely miserable individuals. That's where the personal growth comes in. Life isn't worth living if you're miserable all the time. Find that balance and understand personal growth because personal growth not only resonates with your family life, but it also resonates with your business life. Starting and Growing Capital Equity Partners They initially used other people's money to help source and build out their deals and they ultimately educated themselves on the proper way to do it. So they went from flipping real estate properties to doing partial renovations on some single families. They soon started the general contracting firm and the real estate brokerage. They started a lot of different things that are all pretty vertical in that one silo to help facilitate the business. As they matured, they got more into development and repurposing assets and increasing density on parcels within the city. Influence Marketing vs. Direct Marketing Direct marketing works with sellers because you have to have a presence. You need to get their attention through something directly targeted at them. Whereas marketing for investors is more about influence. A seller just wants to know that you've got the ability to close and help their situation and make the best deal for them. So it's important to build your credibility online and have a bit of social media influence. But for investors, you need to meet people one-on-one and have all the social media influence out there to get somebody to potentially invest with you. So it's a multi-tiered touch approach before somebody invests with you. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/erikecabral/support
On today’s show, we are happy to welcome someone we’ve wanted to have on for some time now, Andrew Wilkinson. He is currently a Managing Partner at Tiny Capital, as well as the Founder of MetaLab, which helped design Slack. Along with this, Andrew is also invested in a range of other companies. In this episode, we learn more about his incredible journey and how he grew a passion for tech and design into a range of flourishing businesses. Andrew also sheds light on his investing education and overcoming his initial reluctance to see the power of investments. For Andrew, being an entrepreneur is about freedom to create the life you want, and having time to pursue your interests, which is how he saw the value of delegating. This is not easy when you are starting out your entrepreneurial journey, as Andrew knows, but as a company scales, so too should the owner’s levels of delegation. We take a look at the types of businesses Tiny Capital is interested in and why they are only pursuing simple business models. Our conversation then takes a turn into a different interest of Andrew’s — subscription podcasts. We discuss why these are such effective, yet untapped income-generating models and Andrew shares some of the work they are doing in this space. We then circle back to Tiny and leadership more generally where Andrew unpacks the importance of incentives along with his characteristic lazy leadership style. Andrew’s self-reflexivity and ability to talk openly about his weaknesses is truly refreshing. This conversation was a great look into what it really means to be an entrepreneur. Andrew's research focuses on risk innovation and the responsible development and use of emerging technologies. He also directs and produces the YouTube science education channel “Risk Bites” and blogs at 2020science.org.Andrew’s science training is in nanoparticle analysis – and for many years he conducted and led research on aerosol exposure in occupational settings. In the early 2000’s he became increasingly involved in guiding US federal initiatives supporting nanotechnology research and development, and in addressing potential risks. In 2005 he became Chief Science Advisor for the Project on Emerging Nanotechnologies (and later the Synthetic Biology Project) at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, and for five years helped inform national and global initiatives addressing the responsible development of nanotechnology. This interest continued between 2010 - 2015 as Director of the University of Michigan Risk Science Center, and Chair of the Environmental Health Sciences Department. This week Oliver interviews Andrew Salzberg, former head of Transportation Policy at Uber, and now a Loeb Fellow at Harvard about his work in radically decarbonising transport. Oliver worked with Andrew at Uber, and he’s been thinking about the intersection between climate, transportation and technology longer than most. It’s a great conversation touching on the challenge ahead and opportunities that abound.Specifically, they dig into:his work at TfL, the World Bank and Uber and then now, focussing on decarbonising transport.the challenges and opportunities for decarbonising the transport sector, and where Micromobility might be able to helphow can these modelling exercises actually get integrated into decision making processes and funded, and who in the US is talking about it.The intersection of landuse change, PT, EV’s and Micromobility and others, and how the conversation can be ‘unsiloed’Why Andrew doesn’t think that decarbonization is inevitable, but how the renewable energy sector offers instructive examples of how tech can change the conversation. The opportunity for ‘policy feedback’ in further accelerating and ratcheting up new technologies to reduce emissionshow EVTOLS/‘flying cars’ represent an asymmetric risk to overall decarbonisation effortsEditor note: Andrew’s audio got lost towards the end, so we reverted to the backup. Apologies.

In this enlightening episode of Elevate, Andrew shares what he learnt from the various crises that can help agents get through today’s tough climate, including what the 1987 stock market crash taught him about consumer confidence and how understanding the difficult steps ahead can make you the most powerful person in the market. Join me for this week’s episode of Take The Leap as I interview Andrew Kaplan. Ask Andrew whether he prefers CEO, Entrepreneur, or Top Ranked Author, and he’ll likely be the last one with a clear answer for you. He would much rather be known for the impact he helps make through his Shatter The Mold Podcast and various book projects. Recognizing that others often consume way more information than they should before taking a step forward, he often focuses on topics that many find overwhelming, and condenses them into actionable, more consumable content. His latest offering, “The Last Law of Attraction Book You’ll Ever Need To Read” was written with the understanding that the only thing most people are missing when it comes to mindset and manifestation, is a way of understanding and enjoying visualization techniques enough to finally use them with consistency and get real results. Andrew is currently based in New York, where he publishes new content daily. It was a pleasure to have him teach us a few key lessons in life that could save you some time and energy. My guest this week is Andrew D'Souza, the Co-founder and CEO of Clearbanc, a fundraising alternative to traditional venture capital. The company is based in Toronto and helps businesses fuel their marketing spend – because right now 40% of venture capital invested in companies goes directly to funding Facebook and Google ads. Equity is an expensive way for founders to fund repeatable growth and Clearbanc exists to solve that problem. Here's how it works – Clearbanc gives startups anywhere between $5,000-$10 million and in exchange Clearbanc typically receives a 5% to 10% revenue share of that company's earnings until the funding is paid back plus a 6% fee. Now here's the secret, Clearbanc picks merchants by developing technology that scans the merchants' Stripe payments and Facebook ads and that way they can assess the financial health and momentum of the company. In 2018, Clearbanc poured more than 100 million dollars into 500 companies. SUBSCRIBE TO MY “MONDAY MUSINGS” NEWSLETTER TO KEEP UP WITH THE PODCAST. Andrew Burnett is a veteran teacher of Math who took a few years to do research, and is back in the classroom making a big splash with going gradeless. Study measuring the effect of immediate feedback and whether it helps kids learn. It does. Change is hard. How to help educators change. Why Andrew made the change when he came back to the classroom. Teachers going Gradeless. Mathematical Mindsets by Jo Boaler Student Self-assessments, engaging math. Isn’t every kid going to say they deserve an A? Show me what you can do - low stakes, no grade. We spend a lot more time on student “show me what you can do’s“ Give specific details on what they did well and what they did not do well. Not grading assignments, but giving feedback on learning. No grades go on the papers. They were no longer looking for a grade. Evidence vs. completion Seesaw online portfolio Workload decreased in some areas and increased in other areas. Worst-case scenario is I could go through all their work and give them a grade if I needed to. Learning opportunity vs. homework. Many of these grades had no indication of whether students understood the concepts! Students complete learning opportunities on assistments. Check-ins vs. Grade book accountability. Why did I not learn this sooner? Teachers say they have to have a minimum number of grades. Need support around you. Letter to parents. Other barriers: fear of change. It’s ok to wait for the new year to start. Doesn’t this mean that kids never show anything because they aren’t getting a grade for it?
Something we wanted to understand through this podcast is how expert investors find, evaluate and make decisions on stocks. End-to-end, what is their process? Andrew Brown, Executive Director of East 72 Holdings and first repeat podcast guest, agreed to spend some time walking through his process for a company he recently invested in. If you want to understand how expert investors think and understand what they look for, then this episode is for you. [If you haven't listened to Part 1 of our interview with Andrew Brown (episode 52 here), we'd suggest checking that out first] In this episode you will learn: • How Andrew identified Cabcharge as a potential investment. • Andrew's research process to study the company. • Why Andrew drove Uber for 3 months, and what he discovered. • How Andrew identified and valued 'non-core' assets the business owned. • The questions Andrew took to the Cabcharge auditor at their Annual General Meeting. • How Andrew then looked at Cabcharge's balance sheet and valued the business. • What happened with Cabcharge between our first interview and now. • Andrew's approach to managing his investments and staying on top of information once he's made a trade. Stocks and Resources Discussed: • Cabcharge (ASX: CAB)
This episode marks a first for Equity Mates. Our first repeat guest! Who better to have back on than Andrew Brown, the Executive Director of East 72 Holdings. Andrew is one of the most insightful investors we've met in our time doing Equity Mates, and is a true contrarian. Do you think the internet has made old media a bad investment? Not Andrew, who since our first interview last year has done extremely well investing in legacy media companies like News Corp, Fairfax and Channel 9. Or do you think Uber's rise means we should avoid investing in the taxi industry? Not Andrew, who has been investing in Cabcharge (he takes us through his logic behind the Cabcharge investment in great detail in part 2 of this interview, to be released Thursday). So we hope you all enjoy listening to Andrew as much as we enjoyed talking to him. In this episode you will learn: • Who Andrew is and how he invests at East 72 Holdings. • How Andrew's stock tips from our last interview are going. • Andrew's thoughts on McGrath Real Estate's struggles. • Why Andrew's old-school media picks have done so well over the last year. • Why Andrew isn't backing down from his Apple short (Even after Warren Buffett has invested in the American tech giant). • Good ways to manage investing information. • The information sources Andrew doesn't consider valuable. • Where you can find client letters from some of the world's best hedge funds. • How Alec managed to overload his inbox trying to keep up with information. • How Twitter helped build the case against Blue Sky Stocks and Resources Discussed: • PM Capital Global Opportunities Fund (ASX: PGF) • McGrath Real Estate (ASX: MEA) • Kogan (ASX: KGN) • News Corp (ASX: NSW) • Nine entertainment group (ASX: NEC) • Fairfax (ASX: FXJ) • Domain (ASX: DHG) • Apple Inc (NASDAQ: AAPL) • Subreddit 'Security Analysis' • The three hedge fund letters Andrew mentioned: • Horizon Kinetics • Greenhaven Road • Greenwood Investments • Blue Sky Alternative Investments (ASX: BLA) [We know the audio isn't perfect in this interview (especially with the background noise between 30min - 33min). Trust us, it's worth persevering. Every time we speak to Andrew we leave as better investors and we're confident listening to him will have the same impact on you.]

My guest on today's podcast is one fascinating dude. His name is , and originally (after setting the world record for the world's longest bungee jump), he founded Corsidian, which grew to be the largest provider of call center software in Latin America. After Corsidian installations in 13 countries and offices in 5, Andrew sold the company in 2011. He then turned to coffee. It was clear to Andrew that coffee had tremendous health benefits, and decided to work with the best in defining what makes coffee so good for you, and to figure out how to get rid of notorious bad stuff in coffee such as pesticides, yeast, mold and a series of flavor imperfections. He worked with a Professor named Adriana Farah for over 18 months to lab test coffees and to figure out how to source the right beans, with no consideration for cost and convenience, with the correct roast curve, organic source and freshness. He then validated his coffee against 49 of the most popular brands in the market. His goal was to decide on every step of the production chain what decision would avoid damage and maintain antioxidants in the coffee. That is not the driver for most decisions about coffee because the concern normally is taste and cost. Andrew asked a different question and the answers led him to decisions not normally made by coffee companies. The result was a coffee called "", that is not the result of what Andrew did in the lab but the result of over 30 choices in the production chain prioritizing health above everything without exception. Andrew personally made every one of those decisions and explains why on today's podcast, explaining how he asked different coffee questions to the best experts in the industry, not just coffee scientists but from the farmers and everyone else involved in every step of production. He is truly knowledgeable about the difference in the process from bean to cup as it relates to the compounds that hurt or harm health, and during our discussion, you'll discover: -The mysterious debilitating illness that Amber's wife experienced while drinking 4-6 cups of coffee a day...[12:15] -Why Andrew began to study coffee at the Vanderbilt University’s Institute of Coffee Studies...[14:30] -What science knows about coffee that most consumers don't and why coffee has gotten a bad rap as early as the 1950's...[15:35] -Why coffee has gotten such a bad rap of late in California due to acrylamide levels...[17:35] -The host of chronic diseases that coffee can control or eliminate risk for...[19:40] -How to concentrate levels of chlorogenic acid in coffee to maximize antioxidant levels...[27:30] -The shocking results of the laboratory results that Andrew conducted on 49 different coffees...[30:40] -The unique three step process used to select coffees that allow for extreme flavors combined with a crystal clean health profile...[42:15] -How you can lower the caffeine content of coffee while maximizing antioxidants and taste...[49:15] -Why the highest-standard packaging method is called nitrogen flushing to gain the height of freshness...[54:00] -And much more! This episode shifts us to the science behind running, and beetroot. Beetroot? You heard that right. After listening, you just may want to put it on your next shopping list. We begin by talking about his running records held at an early age and how his running led him to become obsessed with the physiology of distance running. He get into the specifics about his beetroot study. We hear first-hand examples of time spent working with Paula Radcliffe. He discusses his role as the scientific adviser with Nike’s the sub-2 hour project and his reflection to the outcome of it. He shares his experience and what he learned when he visited the Kenyan runners’ camp in Kenya. Today's Guest Andrew Jones Andrew Jones is famous for his study of beetroot as it relates to a runner’s performance. He is a physiologist who has worked with some of the leading distance runners including Paula Radcliffe. His involvement led to huge improvements in her performance. He was the major scientific adviser with Nike’s sub-2 hour marathon project. What You Will Learn About What record Andrew has held for the last 30 years. What Andrew’s involvement was with the Nike sub-2 project. What foods are used as great recovery products. When and how much beet root should be used to see a benefit. Why Andrew says that “the marathon world record is way slower than a human would be potentially be capable of running it.” What Andrew sees as the reasons why Kenyan runners are ranked above the rest. Inspirational Quotes Things like cherry juice are better in recovery and they contain a lot of polyphenols. Taking anti-oxidants and things like polyphenols which are in cherries, also in beet root juice, can sort of help the recovery process a bit. If you consume high nitrate food stuffs you can lower your blood pressure, as well. I’m not saying you should run, you should not have breakfast before you race, but actually in terms of forcing some additional musclar adaptation, it isn’t always a bad thing to get up and to run. You kind of treat your body to, or teach your body to adapt in certain ways by so doing. And you can have your breakfast after you run. Andrew is one of my original students and now runs Facebook ads for some very successful online entrepreneurs. One such client is my guest from last week’s episode, Melyssa Griffin, who shared how she’s created a 7-Figure Automated Webinar Funnel in 18 Months. If you haven’t yet heard that episode, definitely check it out here. You don’t have to listen to it before today’s episode, but it will definitely give you some context for my conversation with Andrew today. We dive into how Andrew left his corporate job to start his Facebook ads business, what he initially charged (and how his pricing has evolved over the past couple of years) and how he niched down to find his ideal client to work with. Then we dive into the specifics of how he runs the Facebook ads for Melyssa Griffin’s 7-figure automated webinar funnel. In the episode, you’ll learn: The technique Andrew used to land his first big clients What mindset he always uses when determining his pricing What types of images work the best for Andrew’s campaigns for Melyssa Why he started with warm traffic for Melyssa Griffin’s campaigns, and the testing process that was used Why Andrew is putting so much focus on video ads, and we talk about what types of videos are working best for him, including what’s being said in those videos Two challenges Andrew faced when scaling the ad spend How he uses Conversion window to test and scale (you know, when Conversions is your Objective you can choose whether you want to optimize for like 1-day click or 7-day click…) We dive into Andrew’s split testing strategy A comparison on how mobile, desktop and Instagram ads are performing against each other for Melyssa Griffin’s campaigns And a whole lot more... It’s been really cool to see Andrew’s evolution as a Facebook ads manager, from taking my FB Ads For Newbies course years ago to where he is now. Next week, Deacon Hayes of Well Kept Wallet visits the show to share how he’s using Facebook ads to amplify his content and generate affiliate income -- including one recent campaign where he spent $8,500 and did $21,000 in revenue.
