On this episode of Headliners Greg is joined by singer of THE DIONYSUS EFFECT CHRISTOPH PAUL to talk about his new song NEVER NEVER.New York-based trio, The Dionysus Effect, was formed in a dark basement with a passion for writing songs that conjure up raw energy but are still catchy af with boundary-pushing hooks. Members, Christoph Paul (lead vocals/ bass), Sean Quinn Hanley (guitar/backup vocals), and Brett Petersen (drums) combine their diverse musical backgrounds and talents for a unique explosion of sound. Their music is an enthralling hybrid of grunge rock, darkwave indie, alt-rock and pop, that forges a poetic expression filled with furious arena energy. The band blends several different eras of rock but the term Cocaine Rock encapsulates the sound. With songs ranging from stories about a cuckold named Darryl, going to rehab because of heroin addiction, and a love that feels like joining a cult. Encapsulating the influence the band has on many of their listeners, the name ‘The Dionysus Effect' is when the passion overtakes you and you feel most alive with Dionysus energy. Dionysus was a Greek God, who in ancient times brought about ecstasy, insanity and ritual madness, mirroring when the band performs their live show and puts the audience under a trance — that is The Dionysus Effect. The Dionysus Effect is here to play rock music that captures the spiritual and sexual danger and excitement of being alive. Merry Christmas to you and yours! Our guest to close out the season of Advent is friend of the podcast, Matthew Milliner, Professor of Art History at Wheaton College. His new book is Mother of the Lamb: The Story of a Global Icon. Mother of the Lamb tells the remarkable story of a Byzantine image that emerged from the losing side of the Crusades. Called the Virgin of the Passion in the East and Our Lady of Perpetual Help in the West, the icon has expanded beyond its Byzantine origins to become one of the most pervasive images of our time. It boasts multiple major shrines on nearly every continent and is reflected in every epoch of art history since its origin, even making an appearance at the Olympics in 2012. Matthew Milliner first chronicles the story of the icon's creation and emergence in the immediate aftermath of the Third Crusade, whereupon the icon became a surprising emblem of defeat, its own fame expanding in inverse proportion to Christendom's political contraction. Originally born as a Christian response to the Christian violence of the Crusades, it marked the moment when Mary's ministry of suffering love truly began. Having traced the icon's origin and ubiquity, Milliner teases out the painting's theological depth, and continues the story of the icon's evolution and significance from its origins to the present day. As the story of the icon moves well beyond Byzantine art history, both temporally and thematically, it engages religion, politics, contemporary art, and feminist concerns at once. Always, though, the icon exemplifies dignity in suffering, a lesson that--through this image--Byzantium bequeathed to the wider world. Encapsulating eleven centuries of development of the mourning Mary in Byzantium, the Virgin of the Passion emerges as a commendable icon of humility, a perennial watchword signaling the perils of imagined political glory. The Virgin of the Passion, emblemizing political humility, the powerful agency of women, and the value of inter-Christian and extra-Christian concord, is an exemplary Marian image for the fledgling twenty-first century.

Sufficiently taking account of the extensive repertoire of this iconic musician/writer/painter/actor in a single film – even one that runs more than two hours – is a gargantuan undertaking just to include what Bowie did, let alone examine how and why he did it. The language of a land most effectively captures and communicates the worldview of its people. In ancient Bharat, Sanskrit was that medium that effectively encapsulated the breadth and depth of its civilisational aspirations in its basic sound structures, word-formations and syntactic expressions. Words like Dharma, embodying the CODE or the 'Collective Oath for Development and Excellence', represent the gold standards that generations strived to achieve concretely in every aspect of their individual and collective lives, leading to the enjoyment of a natural state of abhyudaya or prosperity, freedom in the material world, as well as nishreyasa or spiritual freedom at a personal level. This conversation is an attempt to decode the multi-layered thought-frames that are embedded in the wordscapes of this ancient and potent tongue.

Encapsulating all of Jewish Spirituality in one word= Yearning. First though need to differentiate between superficial yearning and intrinsic longing. Then progressing to manifest this yearning (in the 3 dimensions spelled out in the most ancient text of Torah mysticism). A key divergence between the outlook of the Stoic & the Jew emerges. Concludes with bringing it to date as a resolution to the rampant feelings of alienation, division, & isolation that is prevalent today between people, and ultimately in our self. In the first installment of this three-part chat, Phyllis Levinson introduced her intuitive outline of modern life lived in balance: the "Tree of Life". Today, the author of Life-Ku: 101 Life Coaching Tips, 17 Syllables at a Time expands on her powerful metaphor for personal fulfillment. She also sheds light on how time management is a flawed goal and the limiting power of the word "should" in Part II of this inspiring interview.[1:00] Levinson's "Tree of Life" in Full Bloom  Levinson opens the second segment of this conversation by expanding on her "Tree of Life" analogy illustrating a life in sustainable balance. The driving visual behind the metaphor is a complex system of interdependent elements, the interests that we all attempt to fit into our everyday routines. She also discusses the struggles that women in executive positions can have in fully assuming their roles in an organization. These difficulties are directly connected, as unresolved issues in one aspect of their life can greatly impact other aspects.[3:36] Transcending "Should"Levinson identifies the word "should" as one that most greatly restrict us from unlocking our potential. In her experience, an idealized image of what "the perfect life" SHOULD look like can cause undue anxiety. While acknowledging the difficulty of achieving a well-rounded life, she encourages us to concentrate on what most fulfills us without guilt. At times, sacrifices must be made...and there is nothing wrong with that. In the end, we have the power to look beyond what we "should" be doing and choose the roles that define us to ourselves.[6:58] The Time Management TrapThere's no getting around it: there are only so many hours in a day. As a result, we all want to make the most of every waking hour. Still, Levinson cautions against compartmentalizing our time too rigorously. Efficiency is a virtue, but too much of a focus on efficiency alone can rob us of the time to enjoy what we accomplish. For these reasons, it important to measure awareness of the time we spend against an appreciation for the way we spend it.[8:00] Contextualizing CoachingThere is a common misconception that the services of a life coach decrease in value as your career path moves forward. On the contrary, many of Levinson's most regular clients are women in leadership positions who simply want a credible outside perspective on their process. She sees her role as helping these women refine their decision-making process through organic conversation, leading them to the best version of themselves. Assembling the big picture from the puzzle pieces of professional and personal pursuits is her passion.[10:07] Confidence in a NutshellA dedicated minimalist, Sylvia Levinson wrote her latest book "Life-Ku" with an eye on making the formula for personal success easy to digest. By rendering some of her most potent guidance into a collection of haikus, she hopes to make self-improvement more approachable. Encapsulating her perspective on a life well-lived, she exemplifies her penchant for brevity: "You only get one chance, live it your way."About Phyllis Levinson:Website: https://www.phyllislevinson.com/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/PhyllisLevinsonCoaching/Blog: https://www.phyllislevinson.com/phyllislevinsoncomLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/phyllis-levinson-mcrp-pcc-45a81218Connect with MindTeam Solutions: Website: https://ca.linkedin.com/company/mindteamsolutionsEmail: Info@MindTeamSolutions.comLinkedIn: https://ca.linkedin.com/company/mindteamsolutions

VIDEO CLIP : www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjiTocpFXXE After ten years of silent maturation, now is the time of awakening. ‘Les Frequences Interdites’ is the latest studio album from acclaimed French artist, Christopher Kah, a cinematic experience via the form of sound, providing an all round stimulation of your senses. His unconventional approach to music has led him on an illusive career thus far, traversing through multiple shades of techno, from discerning to industrial. Unintentionally collecting these tracks for the last ten years this project sees the sheer passion leak into unmarked territory, there were never any boundaries with time, or limits to sound, leaving an incessant freedom for the Roland affiliate to delve deeper with experimental explorations, and approach numerous styles. It is to no surprise that the nine track album has already received enormous support from fellow French pioneer, Laurent Garnier on his ‘It is What It Is’ radio show, an immediate stamp of approval from a highly respected peer, only expected to increase over the coming period as the world receives Kah’s latest statement. Each of the outings on the album attract you in with a soft whispering female voice, setting the tone for the next chapter, with opening track ‘Enlightenment’ igniting with the words “The Beginning”, and so it begins. Steering clear of the generic four to the floor, the thudding broken drums, flashing vocal, and pensive synth work make this an eclectic inception to the body of work and Christopher Kah’s universe. ‘History’ follows up with a gradual and steady lift through organic drumwork, a somewhat eerie and dark mood that grips you. Shuffling movements in ‘Paternity’ lean this toward a trip hop entity, conjoined with melodic synths which bring an engrossing angle. ‘Glorious Sun’ is 3 minutes of distinctive ambience, as the female chants drag you out of the rain, transcending you in the next soundscape. A sense of panic in urgency in ‘Run Run After’ creating imagery of an intense chase, a nod towards the hay days of Drum & Bass, an expected, thrashing number adding to the bizarre curation. Another discerning journey lowering the heart rate in ‘Disturbancy - Initiate’ a chugging sci-fi trip leading you into murky waters or mystery. Psychedelic and peculiar spoken words work their way around the body of the track in ‘Damaged’, the voices embedding firmly in your mind enforcing a loss of your surroundings. The aptly named ‘Mirage’ tantalises your thought process, launching you deeper into this out earth excursion to the point of no return. Encapsulating the rollercoaster of emotion your body has encountered in one track, allowing the escapism to intensify, painting the last strokes on the canvas, building mellowly to a graceful ending of the visual experience. An unimaginable force that has cut deeper than the skin. Bonus track ‘14 Ans’ lifts spirits with probably the most funk orientated arrangement out of the nine, a pleasant experience allowing time to stop and reflect on the experience that laid before you. Kah’s recent endeavours do not halt here, as he recently propelled his ECHO LIVE project into the music cosmos, a collaboration with veterans of the game, Roland. The live moniker sees Christopher utilising the bare amount of two machines, a Roland MC-707 and Roland TR-8S, proving once again it is more than possible to create intelligent music with minimum resources. There was never a doubt in anyone's mind that Kah could take us to this visually outer universe location, but now there is evidence for all to absorb and endure. A fantastic display of sound variation, bridging across contrasting moods and atmospheres, with pure emotion seeping through the gaps.

Research on perovskites has progressed rapidly for PV and LEDs, with new solar-cell efficiency records being set at a regular pace. There are hints of the first commercial products reaching the market by 2020, just a decade since perovskite photovoltaics were first discovered. MRS Bulletin presents the impact of a recent advance in this burgeoning field. Read the abstract in Science (doi:10.1126/science.aau5701).TranscriptWelcome to MRS Bulletin’s Materials News Podcast, providing breakthrough news & interviews with researchers on the hot topics of 3D bioprinting, artificial intelligence and machine learning, bioelectronics, perovskites, quantum materials, robotics, and synthetic biology. My name is Bob Braughler. Metal-halide perovskite solar cells degrade when exposed to oxygen and moisture. Encapsulating the devices makes them more stable and long-lasting, but it does not solve one issue that crops up during regular device operation. Light, electric field, and thermal stress can all make lead and iodide ions more reactive, generating lead and iodine defects that serve as recombination centers for charge carriers and bring down device efficiency and lifetime. Researchers at Peking University have invented a novel technique for combating these defects. They added a rare-earth europium ion pair to lead-iodide perovskites. The redox pair shuttled electrons in a cyclical fashion from the defects, oxidizing lead and reducing iodine to recover lead and iodine ions. Devices with this redox shuttle have a power efficiency of 21.52%, and they retained more than 90% of this efficiency under 1-sun continuous illumination or heating at 85°C for 1500 hours. This work was published in a recent issue of Science. My name is Bob Braughler from the Materials Research Society. In JavaScript: availableVariants - big array with Item, Colors, Sizes - replaced with variantFactory(34,2345,2345,) just passing ID's Extract Function into class - 182 Consolidate up a bunch of related functions into a parent class Split Phase 154 - Variant of Extract Function When a function is dealing with two different things - look for a way to split it out - was cleaner approach. JavaScript Cart.js - logic of API calls associated with the user input Split this into discrete functions Ruby Notification logic was calling Twilio Encapsulate this into it's own method Later then it was a service object to itself My Cart.js Story - (Refactoring in Vue / JavaScript) addItem - for adding item to cart removeItem - for removing item from cart increaseItemCount - for adjusting line item decreaseItemCount - for adjusting line item setLineItemCount - for adding to cart an initial value First - Rename Methods (Change Function Declaration) 124 addItem - became - addItemToCart removeItem - became - removeItemFromCart increaseItem - became - increaseLineItemCount decreaseItem - became - decreaseLineItemCount Second - Extract Function 106 Both increaseLineItemCount and decreaseLineItemCount were doing something very similar. So I created a new function of setLineItemQty Both my methods of increaseLineItemCount and decreaseLineItemCount were then calling this setLineItemQty that accepted a qty parameter - function. Second - parameterize Function 310 This did take a refactor of my vue listeners. Since I had this new setLineItemQty that accepted a qty parameter I replaced increaseLineItemCount and decreaseLineItemCount a single function of setLineItemQty Deleted a lot of code Third - Used inline function 106 to simply alias another function. Through the above refactors I realized that addItemToCart was doing the same transactional work as setLineItemQty to 1 I removed the body of addItemToCart and replaced it with setLineItemQty with the default params accordingly. Fourth - Again used inline function 106 to alias another function Through the above refactors I realized that removeItemFromCart was doing the same transactional work as setLineItemQty to 0 I removed the body of removeItemFromCart and replaced it with setLineItemQty with the default params accordingly Fifth - I used I realized that all these functions were just doing the same thing. Adjusting CartLineItemCount. The final refactor simply deleted removeItemFromCart and addItemToCart In closing: Code went from 160 lines to around 60 It's way DRY It's way more reusable The interface to my cart.js is now just a single function of setLineItemQty Updated my vue listeners - Every interaction within this front end is just calling setLineItemQty Picks: vue.js - https://vuejs.org/ - Burnout Reddit thrread: https://www.reddit.com/r/cscareerquestions/comments/b6xzr0/how_do_you_keep_from_burning_out_at_your_job/

Encapsulating Collection Properties Encapsulation is a key aspect of object-oriented programming and software engineering. Unfortunately, many systems fail to properly encapsulate collection properties, resulting in reduced quality. Sponsor - DevIQ Thanks to DevIQ for sponsoring this episode! Check out their list of available courses and how-to videos. Show Notes / Transcript Encapsulation essentially means hiding the inner workings of something and exposing a limited public interface. It helps promote more modular code that is more reliable, since verifying the public interface's behavior provides a high degree of confidence that the object will interact properly with collaborators in a system. One area in which encapsulation often isn't properly followed is with collection properties. Collection Properties Any time you have an object that has a collection of related or child objects, you may find this represented as a collection property. If you're using .NET and Entity Framework, this property is often referred to as a navigation property. Some client code can fetch the parent object from persistence, specify to EF that it should load the related entities, and then navigate from the parent object to its related objects by iterating over an exposed collection property. For example, a Customer object might have a set of Orders they've placed previously. This could be represented most simply by having a public List property on the Customer class. This property must expose a getter, and in many cases system designs will have it expose a public setter as well. In that case, any code in the system would be able to set a Customer's order collection to any list of Orders, or to null. This could obviously result in undesired behavior. Some developers might offer token resistance to this total lack of encapsulation by removing the setter (or making it private), but the damage is done as long as the property exposes a List data type, with all of its mutable functionality. This kind of design exposes too much functionality from the Customer, since it inherently allows any client code that works with a Customer to: Directly add or remove an order to/from the Customer Clear all orders from the Customer In these cases, the Customer object in question has no way of controlling, preventing, or even detecting these changes to its Orders collection. Why is this important? Well, there is probably a decent amount of workflow involved in placing a new order for a customer. It's probably not sufficient to simply add a new order without any additional work. Now, you can argue that somewhere there's a service that does all the required work, but how does the object model enforce the use of said service? If any client code can instantiate an order and add it to a customer, how is the design of the system leading developers toward doing the right thing (using a service, in this case)? On the other hand, if there is no way to directly add an order to a customer, developers will probably quickly discover that there is a service for this purpose, and it's more likely that this service will provide the only way of adding new orders to customers. In most cases, there are only certain operations on related collections that an object should expose, and these it probably wants to have direct control over. If Customer collaborators shouldn't be able to directly delete all of a customer's orders, don't expose the collection as a List. Instead, expose a ReadOnlyCollection, or an IEnumerable. Both EF 6 and EF Core support properly encapsulating collection navigation properties, so don't feel like you have to expose List types in order to keep EF happy. Check out the links in the show notes at WeeklyDevTips.com/011 to see how to configure EF to support proper collection encapsulation. Thanks to a dedicated production and writing team, the channel has been providing hope and meaning to a worldwide audience from a small production studio in Montgomery County, PA, since 2010. Creator, producer, and host Curtis Childs became part of the Swedenborg Foundation in 2012 because of their mutual goal to share the work of eighteenth-century spiritual teacher, philosopher, and writer Emanuel Swedenborg with the world. Swedenborg and Life, which streams live every Monday at 8:00 p.m. ET, launched in 2014. The addition of the hour-long weekly web series added depth to the channel’s preexisting short video repertoire as well as viewing consistency for its 30,000+ subscribers. The Swedenborg Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, independent, educational organization and book publisher based in West Chester, PA. About Curtis Childs Curtis Childs is the digital media producer at the Swedenborg Foundation, a nonprofit organization whose goal is to spread eighteenth-century philosopher Emanuel Swedenborg’s timeless message of hope to all. While obtaining his degree in communication studies from Oakland University, Curtis experienced an internal battle with depression that led him to question God, existence, and his lifelong interest in Swedenborgian theology. After a period of intense suffering, he recovered from his depression with the help of modern medicine, therapy, and a return to the spiritually uplifting messages he found in Swedenborg’s writings. Now, Curtis is applying his education and desire to help others find peace through Swedenborg’s insights by producing and hosting a weekly webcast called Swedenborg and Life on the offTheLeftEye YouTube channel. Each week, Curtis and his behind-the-scenes team pour their talents and passions into creating for a worldwide audience a new episode that focuses on spiritual and societal topics such as the afterlife, angels and spirits, near-death experiences, overcoming worldly issues, and more.

Williams-Witherspoon. Encapsulating conversations regarding HIV/AIDS, queer identity and cancer, this theater production team found a way to tell a story about "life, death and letting go" without being trite and adding a splash of levity along the journey!! #tuneIn For more Q2TT episodes, visit: www.Queer2TheT.blogspot.com

FTC Regulations - a whole lot of buzz out nothing? Is it to target the late night advertisers that promise results with no accountability? Is it punishing everyone for the sake of a few? Will it raise the reputation of the blogosphere? Are these regulations targeted at bloggers that aren't accustomed to traditional print regulations?Macworld and PC World don't disclose the sources? Were the products paid for out of pocket or provided by the manufacturer? Dave reviews products that he's paid for harder than those provided for review. Doyle recounts his days at Maxtor where they expected the review units back due to publication policy, but wished they hadn't had to deal with the returns. They end up losing money on the units. In Australia, several review units were shipped with no expectation of return.Ultimately these regulations will have no affect. Though the precedent in cases is that they'll go after the larger fish, first.Windows 7. Launch parties around? Microsoft is sending kits with the Ultimate version included. It's better than Windows Vista, and XP. Wait to make a purchase until it ships natively. This is a plumbing update to XP though Vista. Max OS X Snow Leopard is a plumbing update too, with little visible on the desktop. No PowerPC support in Snow Leopard. Did Leo Laporte call it a service pack? Snow Leopard has some small compatibility issues, nothing major. Dave had to install it twice. We've all left Microsoft Office for Apple's iWork suite. Dave is having trouble adjusting from Entourage. Windows 7 has no email client - get Windows Live to get the missing software (email, anti-virus, etc.). Microsoft Antivirus has spawned a new free antivirus industry. Windows XP SP 2 turned on the firewall by default, ending many type of infections. None of use run anti-virus on our Macs. Time Capsule/Machine is the great undoer.Google Wave. Flying blind. If your community isn't invited, it makes less sense. What is Google Wave. Is it profound? Scoble says it's a non event. Other say it's the best. Collaboration on a document - wiki with live comments? Interesting on an enterprise level? Doyle is afraid of the preview typing - afraid we'll see what he's really thinking. No one wants to. :)Encapsulating conversation is interesting to Dave. Concerned that everyone would have to live in the Google universe. It's brand new, will other software integrate with the APIs? Chicken egg problem? It just opened to 100,000 people. Bottom line? Jury is still out.Blogworld: Dave and Doyle are going, and are running a workshop. People will put you on Twitter or Linked in - they want to focus on what the C suite needs to know to get there and make it useful. Dave thinks BW is terrific, and can't wait to go. Michael isn't going, but his Twitter stream is. Doyle liked hanging with the leaders in the industry. Dave took his own Jones soda bottles last year (provided by Jones Soda, full disclosure :). Doyle drops an S bomb. If you're thinking about going, go, best show in 2008. Dave wasn't impressed with SXSW - he's old. Doyle and Michael haven' been. Dave's favorite show is CES and thinks you should still go to experience the back halls (which is hidden from most people.) They focus on the least expensive items, not the coolest, but the most innovative. We all watched the streams to find out what was going on. There's also the social side, the after parties and clubs. Apple is rumored to be attending.Show called at 25 minutes. Thanks for joining us! Thanks to the B-Side Lounge in Boulder, CO.
