Huberman Lab Key Takeaways The human sense of smell is innately extremely sensitive and can be trained to be even more sensitive, especially in the absence of other senses (like vision or hearing)Every time you meet someone you are taking chemicals from that person and applying it to your own body to process information about that person – this may explain why some people become “fast friends” or click right awayIf you lose your sense of smell for 1-1.5 years, it's unlikely you'll ever get it back; it's a ‘use it or lose it' systemLoss of smell is an early indicator of neurological degeneration and diseaseWe're constantly shifting our nasal cycle AKA which nostril we use most through a mechanism driven by the sympathetic/parasympathetic nervous systemInformation processing & cognition is linked to our olfactory systemWe are always sensing our own odor clouds to change our cognition and behavior – whether you realize it or notIn our most basic behaviors, we follow our nose not our eyes: if a food is visually appealing but smells bad, we are less likely to eat it; we'll be more attracted to a romantic partner who smells pleasant regardless of looks versus a potential partner who looks nice but smells badThe future of digitized olfaction may be used in medical diagnoses (but nowhere in the near future)Read the full notes @ podcastnotes.orgIn this episode, my guest is Noam Sobel, PhD, professor of neurobiology in the department of brain sciences at the Weizmann Institute of Science. Dr. Sobel explains his lab's research on the biological mechanisms of smell (“olfaction”) and how sensing odorants and chemicals in our environment impacts human behavior, cognition, social connections, and hormones. He explains how smell is a crucial component of “social sensing” and how we use olfaction when meeting new people to determine things about their physiology and psychology, and he explains how this impacts friendships and romantic partners. He explains how smell influences emotions, hormone levels, memories and the relationship between breathing and autonomic homeostasis. He describes how smell-based screening tests can aid disease diagnosis and explains his lab's work on digitization of smell — which may soon allow online communication to include “sending of odors” via the internet. Dr. Sobel's work illustrates how sensitive human olfaction is and how it drives much of our biology and behavior. For the full show notes, visit hubermanlab.com. It's back to school time 2020 - pandemic started - heard about a school that had a graduation for the 2020 students. Good on them. 2021 - The mask year 2022- the normal year filled with learning gaps, online/in-person teaching, and quarantines 2023 - Let's call this one back to normal. - so what do we need to do The 3 most important things teachers should do this year Get way into your subject and get consistent about communication and deadlines. Become a team with your students. Gen Z wants the subject first and you second. Millennials were a little bit the other way. Gen X was totally the other way. Remember to a Gen Z Wi-Fi and cell phones are like lights and running water. Deadlines are so important. Accountability will be key this year. Increase and develop interpersonal skills. Handshaking with gloves if you have to. Encouraging them to speak up and develop their voice. I've heard many teachers talk about how they forgot how to act. Of course, they were forced into a zoom world and told to stay home and not touch anything for a long time. Mask up and stay 6 feet apart. Covid is still real but this has caused the strange behavior. Stress that career and retirement are really important. Grades matter - remember people with 4-year degrees make about double what people who don't have a college education do. Building some long-term career is super solid advice. How many people do you know will never be able to retire? This all starts in high school. Changing jobs every 3 years is hazardous. Wouldn't it be much better to figure out what you want to do and go all in on it? This is the point of high school. You may have little deflections on the way up, but you can't see what you don't aim at. High school is to teach people how to aim.

Today on the REI Branded podcast, Matt Holmes helps you discover how a handshake helps you build long-term relationships and larger businesses. Matt Holmes is the world record holder for the longest handshake. He talks about how handshakes and relationships play into success for your local company or online business. Matt is a marketing entrepreneur, world record holder, crypto 'hodler,' and the Founder & CEO of Handshaking.com, a company that connects contractors with local customers seeking quotes (allowing contractors to shake hands with more customers in their city). In an effort to learn how America's 1% all became friends and leveraged relationships proactively to reach success, Matt interviewed venture capitalists, members of Congress, and billionaires in the early days of Handshaking and learned that providing instant value is the best way to begin all relationships. This led Matt to begin to help others connect with 'hard-to-get' investors, big-time CEOs, and others by building their personal brands through Handshaking services. Handshaking only worked with clients for a temporary period of time and now does not sell any services but rather donates hundreds of free leads to service providers annually before finding the right partner to profit with. handshaking.com/assets (Passive income sites for sale) puebloconcretecontractors.com (an example of one of his concrete lead gen sites) mattholmes.io (his personal site) matt@handshaking.com (best email) LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/handshakin Facebook: https://facebook.com/holmematt Twitter: https://twitter.com/handshakin YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_xaKnXsBJYJfVYIE2rCzzg Instagram: https://instagram.com/mattholmesmba Topics Covered: 03:35 - What has changed with the way people do networking during the pandemic 04:35 - How the handshake and starting a business around it started 06:56 - What you need to know about a handshake 07:31 - How he went into the handshake business 09:45 - The kinds of customers he serves 10:46 - How his handshake business model works 11:39 - Choosing contractors 12:54 - Hacks that can get you additional leads 16:08 - Advice in creating multiple businesses 18:08 - Identifying the value you bring to your customers 18:44 - How mentorship helped him grow his business 19:47 - Maintaining a Philippine-based team 20:55 - Tips on outsourcing remote workers 24:55 - Securing a record holder handshake 27:15 - Talking about his digital real estate and insights about cryptocurrency 29:56 - Personal favorite brand that he considers bold and great 32:13 - A favorite resource he loves using for internal purposes 33:01 - Favorite quote 34:20 - Buying a URL Key Takeaways: “Your goal is to drive traffic to the real estate that you own online, which is your domain name and website. That's the land that you build your empire on.” - Matt Holmes "I've always focused on relationships, before worrying about making income or a sale. And, you know, I look for long-term win-win relationships. And I think that's the primary focus that will result in us becoming a large, even more successful business." - Matt Holmes "The beautiful thing about a handshake is, that it must be done in person. And although the Internet is a powerful tool for maintaining relationships, and starting new relationships, the in-person relationships more than ever, is where you can find the people that you trust and the people that trust you." - Matt Holmes "The first thing you've got to do is, if you have an address at your home, you need to go and register your business on Google. Without websites, we've seen that act alone get anywhere from four extra leads every single month for the next many years to 70 leads." - Matt Holmes "I would also recommend, in addition to Google, go ahead and launch the five important social networks. And don't worry about keeping them active until you have the time or support for that. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and then make sure you're easily accessible via email." - Matt Holmes Additional Resource: Are you a real estate investor looking to build your business and stand out from the crowd, and you don't want to wait for all the knowledge, strategies, and how-tos to be slowly delivered to you via this podcast every week? Matt Holmes is the World Record holder for the longest handshake between two people - you'll have to listen to the episode to find out how long it was! His company, not surprisingly is called 'Handshaking', but what is surprising is that it has no clients and doesn't sell any services. It's a very interesting concept and it all came about through networking.
In late 2014, Handshaking was launched by Matt Holmes as the Handshakin Video Series where he interviewed top entrepreneurs, billionaires, and venture capitalists on networking. He learned that his strong personal brand was getting him in front of almost anyone he wanted. That was his AHA moment--he started helping other entrepreneurs build their personal brand so they could connect with mentors, investors, and high-net-worth clients. After great feedback from his fans, Handshaking offered services to help others connect with 'hard-to-get investors, big-time CEOs, and others by building their personal brand through Handshaking services. In this episode, Matt is explaining "How you can get started investing in online assets and properly setting up assistance to keep your assets growing?".If you need help connecting to contractors: concrete, roofing, and window tinting, or anything related, you can visit:Website: HANDSHAKIN.COM Do you have a story on business development, real estate investing, or other wealth-increasing tips? In this podcast, I share a few thoughts about how events have evolved, my thoughts around in-person and virtual events, what it was like to be back onstage, and some behind-the-scenes into how I prepare for a new keynote.Helpful tips to prepare for a keynote: Get to the venue early - do a sound and tech check. Get onstage. Walk the stage. Get to know your A/V team - they are your best friends. Ask ahead of time what the stage set-up will look like - where are the screens? What is the seating? Go through your slides onstage - check your videos if you are playing videos. Rehearse - physically practice, stand up, wear the shoes you will wear onstage. I start creating a keynote by doing a brain dump first: my older content, stats, stories, examples, etc. What do you already have that you can repurpose? Be cognizant of your time constraints with your presentation. Prepare to have to cut or add time. Be respectful and do not go over with your time! What you wear onstage is important - can you move? Are you comfortable? I don't script my talks - prepared but not scripted. I do heavily prepare for my opening and closing. I rehearse those over and over! Be prepared for anything! You never know what will happen! I use slides - but less is more. I use PowerPoint - but I create all of my slides within Canva. Slides are essentially images - so they don't look distorted on someone else's computer. Your slides should be a prompt. Additional thoughts:As we move into this ‘post-pandemic' era - I think it's important personally to be prepared for events by understanding the protocols in place, be prepared with items such as masks, sanitizer, and your vaccination card. Also, be prepared ahead of time with your own personal boundaries. What are you comfortable with? Handshaking? Hugs? Selfies? How will you navigate that? I think it's important to make those decisions ahead of time. What events are you going to? Shaking hands hasn't been so popular in social distancing Covid times, but it is a widely accepted gesture that has existed for thousands of years. The handshake ritual Is deeply embedded in a range of cultures and it's not just the exclusive domain of humans. Chimpanzees and bonobos also shake hands. The ancient social gesture has so captivated paleoanthropologist and evolutionary biologist, Ella Al-Shamahi, that she's written a book about it - The Handshake - A gripping history.

Johtuiko poisto K18-merkinnästä - vai toiko Lost Boysin aihe huumeet liian lähelle ihmisten arkea? Vastaamme myös kysymykseen, miten musiikinrakastajien pää kestää musabisnestä. "Everyone has a plan until you get punched in the face." That's a quote from Mike Tyson, but people, COVID-19 has punched the world in the face. This is the 19th strain of the COVID virus and it won't be the last. This thing will keep changing and mutating to avoid being killed off by any vaccine we come up with. This virus has killed a lot of businesses and it will probably kill more before it's done. Facemasks are the new seatbelt. Temperature checks are the new Homeland Security scans. Social distancing will be the new norm. Handshaking and hugs will not be the norm anymore. Virus threats are the new terrorist threats. Live concerts and sporting events may go the way of the 8-track player. The one constant is change, and you're gonna need to survive and thrive in this new world we're living in. That's what DIVOC 91 is- It's flipping the script on COVID 19. Have you changed? Are you going to change? What is your DIVOC 91 plans? Business, life, get and stay healthy plan? If you don't have a plan, you better start right now. Come up with your DIVOC 91 plan and PUNCH BACK. Don't let the circumstances control you, it's time that you control the circumstances. CULTURE RESET VOL.1PODCAST© 2020ISBN 978-1-64871-604-1(COVID-19) Pandemic is no myth but a disease which appears to have activated Culture Reset.Plausibly the aforesaid theoretical statement implies that Newton’s third law, Paradigm shift, Culture and Pandemic theories are at work because they intertwined, and inter phasing whereby creating a synergy within every cultural space globally. Given the specificity and logistics of this declaration evidently it also appears that metaphorically and symbolically global citizen’s are perceived as conduits or vehicle whereby such theories are expressed in this conversation.Plausibly although Culture and Pandemic can be construed as theoretical constructs; conversely, they do not foster a symbiotic relationship but are antithesis to Culture. A case in point, The World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention both advise that to stop the spread of communicable disease, physical contact with others should be avoided, including specifically, handshakes. Most public health jurisdictions in the United States and Canada echo this plea in their own public communications. For example, Ottawa Public Health’s website advises under the Influenza tab, “[y]ou can get the flu by shaking hands with someone who has the flu or by touching surfaces that have come into contact with flu droplets ….” (ottawapublichealth.ca). Handshaking practices in Liberia came under assault during the 2014 Ebola outbreak (e.g., Doyle 2014). A recognizable genre of news story targeting the handshake repeats annually in most major news media at the beginning of every “flu season.” Thus, in pandemic culture, the handshake is an increasingly recognized, scrutinized, restricted, and even prohibited social ritual.. Culture is defined as the characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people, encompassing language, religion, cuisine, social habits, music and arts. Citizens are going to stop going to shops or restaurants. Consequently, this action will affect the global economies, hence creating a decrease in income for local, regional and international business. Avoiding a handshake is difficult. If you want to insult someone -- don't shake her hand. Handshaking is a social expectation. Here's how I get out of it: I take on the responsibility by saying, "I don't want to shake your hand because I've been sick recently." It's true, I have been! That doesn't mean I'm contagious. Rather than go into the reasons it doesn't make sense for me to shake hands, I give this simple reason. Even when perhaps I should be more explicit...

Surprise billing … it sounds like so much fun. Who doesn’t love a surprise? Except receiving a surprise bill is zero fun. In case you’ve been out of the loop on this, surprise billing is when the patient, unbeknownst to them, racks up out-of-network charges, usually at a hospital. The patient may have done absolutely everything right—selected an in-network hospital, got all their tests preapproved—and then, wham! A month or a year later, the patient gets a bill that could be a few hundred dollars or a few hundred thousand dollars, usually from someone they’ve never heard of. And that’s an important point. The vast majority of physicians out there, especially the ones with relationships with patients, don’t surprise bill. Unfortunately, surprise billing isn’t a one-off random event: 54% of Americans have received a surprise bill. And that 54% of Americans … not happy about it. So unhappy, as a matter of fact, that lots of legislation is pending to curtail the practice. Surprise billing has been identified as a solid barrier to access and to patients who need care getting it. Patients fear the looming threat of having their bank account emptied out no matter how diligent and smart and well insured they are. Why does surprise billing—or balance billing, as it’s usually called by those engaging in it—continue when it’s so clearly a problem for patients? If you read a recent Brookings Institute report, you’d have discovered that surprise billing is a lucrative gambit for some, certainly not all, hospitals. It’s especially lucrative in, but not limited to, emergency rooms (ERs). So much money can be raked in from incapacitated or, at a minimum, injured patients, in fact, that certain ER-staffing companies have turned surprise billing into a business model. If you follow me on LinkedIn, you’d know that I wrote an article about this on Medium recently. Today I speak with Devon Herrick, PhD, who is an expert in surprise billing. Devon is a health care economist and public policy analyst who has authored many articles on surprise billing. You’ll find some links in the show notes. Devon is also an adviser to the Heartland Institute, which is a free-market think tank. I find it incredibly thought provoking that a free-market think tank, for reasons we discuss in this podcast, finds unfettered market-driven surprise billing as egregious as the most progressive socialists do. Handshaking across aisles everywhere. If you’re a hospital or insurance carrier executive, what are you doing right now in light of all this public attention and legislation? I hope your response includes actions to protect your patients—and not just an industry-centric lobbying effort. You can learn more and connect with Devon on Twitter at @DevonHerrick or on Facebook at Devon Herrick. Devon M. Herrick, PhD, is a health economist and former hospital accountant. He is currently a health policy adviser for the Chicago-based Heartland Institute. Dr. Herrick worked for the Dallas-based National Center for Policy Analysis (NCPA) for 21 years until it ceased operations in 2017. He also served two terms as chair of the Health Economics Roundtable of the National Association for Business Economics (NABE). Dr. Herrick focuses on health insurance issues, including state health care regulations, federal health reform, managed care, Medicare, Medicaid, and the uninsured. He also researches issues such as consumer-driven health care, telemedicine, medical tourism, pharmaceutical economics, and emerging trends in retail medicine. While with NCPA, Dr. Herrick authored more than 100 studies and papers based on his research. Dr. Herrick is a sought-after speaker on health policy issues and is quoted widely in the press, including on radio and television. He has testified before Congress and numerous state legislative hearings and meetings. His articles and comments have appeared in hundreds of newspapers across the country. He is a coauthor, with John C. Goodman and Gerald L. Musgrave, of Lives at Risk: Single-Payer National Health Insurance Around the World. Dr. Herrick began his career in health care as a staff accountant with Baylor University Medical Center (Dallas) in 1986. He later transferred to Baylor Center for Restorative Care, where he worked as an accounting manager. Prior to joining NCPA, Dr. Herrick was a research assistant at the Bruton Center for Development Studies at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD). The Bruton Center integrates geographic information systems, spatial analysis, and exploratory data analysis in the social sciences, applying research on trends, forces, and public policy. While a teaching assistant, Dr. Herrick also taught the economics of health at UTD. While pursuing a doctorate in 1995, Herrick came to the National Center for Policy Analysis as a policy intern. He subsequently became manager of information systems and later the research manager. Dr. Herrick was a senior fellow at NCPA from 2003 to 2017. 03:33 How common surprise billing, or balance billing, actually is. 03:55 The statistics behind how pervasive surprising bills are. 04:49 Balance billing vs business law. 05:55 Why patients fear hospitals. 06:27 How transparency can solve the problem of balance bills. 06:50 “If there’s no meeting of the minds, it’s not an enforceable contract.” 07:27 How to solve surprise billing in ERs. 09:32 The tipping point of surprise bills. 10:32 The negative incentive in stopping this problem. 11:11 “Health care is similar to a gold rush.” 13:26 Is there spillover into other financial models? 13:50 What doctors think of surprise billing. 16:14 How surprise billing became a default practice to begin with. 19:50 “Hospitals can wield more power than they realize.” 21:07 How balance billing affects insurance carriers. 22:15 Doctor fees vs hospital fees. 23:28 “Someone’s prices are going up.” 24:09 “It’s partly based on opportunity.” 26:00 Devon’s advice to insurance companies on eliminating balance billing. 31:18 Devon’s consulting practice.
