The Horror Trans Podcast is a “show” hosted by “trans” “woman” named Stephanie Bri. Doug from Who's Right did a deep dive on this character that includes toy unboxing videos and music critiques. Stephanie likes the Beastie Boys but two of their songs are in the worst 25 songs of all time? After Doug's thorough analysis on the highs and lows of Mr. Bri, Harrison Young tries to figure out a gender neutral word for “farmer.” Then we play the debut We Are The Dabblers, an epic song put together by Cardiff, Mr. Magenta, and Tony Muskrat featuring everyone (link to video below). Paco then joins us as we discuss John's latest failed relationship, this time with Kate Meaney. Then we break down Steel Toe's latest performance, pretending to be outraged about one of Nick Rekieta's kids testing positive for cocaine. He can't stop embarrassing himself. Then Nick did his own livestream to defend himself against people who may or may not exist. We wrap things up with Annie, your voicemails, and the Isotopes newest recording of the song Popcorn by Hot Butter. What was that Frankenstein music machine with all the dials, sliders, patch cords etc., that made other-worldly sounds that were supposed to resemble “real” instruments, like strings, horns and flutes, but didn't? It was the mighty Moog, invented by Cornell doctoral student and Theremin salesman, Robert Moog. He hooked up with musician-educator Herb Deutsch, developed the voltage regulation for oscillators and modulators, and the thing caught on.The first time most of us heard it was on Wendy Carlos' SWITCHED ON BACH record, which, by aligning itself to one of the world's most beloved composers, became a sensation in 1968, and was a defining feature of Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange. Not long after that it became an absolute must have for the Prog matadors like Keith Emerson of ELP. The Beatles also used it extensively on Abby Road, etc. The list goes on and on. Speaking for myself, I've always found the Moog and the electronic sounds it made cold and clinical (though fascinating). However, on this record its positively cuddly, and it makes me smile when I recall that it was used by the Muppets for the Swedish Chef routine. Composed by Gershon Kingsley, this hit version of Popcorn was recorded by Stan Free of Hot Butter, and its lighter than air.

FPL is a game that's often characterized by the feeling of disappointment. Cold, hard, and unadulterated disappointment. And yet, before every seemingly juicy double gameweek, it seems like we FPL managers have a genuine reason to be hopeful. Double Gameweek 25 was one of those gameweeks—how exciting was it that Man City and Liverpool, two of the best teams in the league, would have two nice fixtures each? Alas, disappointment struck once again, especially when we realized that Darwin and Jota together played a mere quarter of the minutes that they could have played. In MJ's words, perhaps we should come to expect disappointment; that way, we'll never be disappointed. But there is reason to be hopeful, surely! The stars of today's shows are Wolves's dynamic duo up front, Hwang Hee-chan and Pedro Neto. Here's a fun fact: Man City and Sheffield United are the two teams who have played the most games since a 0-0 (for diametrically opposed reasons, might I add). I daresay it seems almost inevitable—though that is admittedly a dangerous term—that Hwang and Neto will carve through the Blades's defense (ironic nickname, isn't it?) like a knife through hot butter. Or is it a hot knife through butter? Either way, the butter doesn't remain intact…
What up nerds! Mike Recine was kind enough to bless the pod this week. We've never really met, but that didn't stop us from talking about going to the movies alone, our experiences with traveling in Italy, and the ole popcorn trick. Butter has set a record high every day since last Wednesday. In beef, we are still seeing tight supplies and restrained production. Ground beef is moving higher but everything is else is moving up in preparation for the holidays. We are seeing lower production in poultry as well. Breasts and tenders are moving lower and wings are holding on to recent gains. On the avian flu front, one new case was reported affecting 70 birds in Idaho. Pork production picks up this time of year and is really putting a damper on any market moves higher. Ribs and loins represent very good values. This month we've gone back half a century to 1972, where only one of us exists, to talk about the best ear slicing soundtracks, epic prog, shiny glam, & spooky folk. We've each chosen our 10 favourite songs of the year and sent them over to Ian's wife Lydia, who put the playlists together and distributed them so we were each given a playlist of the 20 songs from the other two hosts, along with our own 10. We then ranked the playlists in order of preference and sent them to Colin's wife Helen, who totalled up the points and worked out the order. Helen also joined us on the episode to read out the countdown, which we found out as we recorded so all reactions are genuine. Now, admittedly, in parts we're a little bit brutal to some of the songs in the list as we're three separate people with differing music tastes, but please remember that to be in this episode at all the songs have to have been in one of our top 10's of that year. Bands featured in this episode include (In alphabetical order, no spoilers here!) - Aphrodite's Child, Big Star, Black Sabbath, David Bowie, Can, Alice Cooper, Deep Purple, Nick Drake, Marvin Gaye, Genesis, Al Green, Hot Butter, Curtis Mayfield, Don McLean, Mott The Hoople, Harry Nilsson, The Osmonds, Pentangle, Lou Reed, The Rolling Stones, Slade, Roxy Music, Todd Rundgren, Stealers Wheel, Steeleye Span, Steely Dan, Sweet, Thin Lizzy, Yes, & Neil Young. I. In this episode of Highway On My Podcast, Rocky, Mayur, Abhinandan and Prashant head to Sikkim to indulge in some spiritual seeking, try the food of the monks, and meet the most beautiful human they have ever seen in the unlikeliest of places. Mayur gets into the mood and pulls a Shashi Tharoor, offering elaborate, poetic descriptions of Sikkim’s beauty. Rocky says Sikkim’s geographical layout resembles a chicken’s neck, and Mayur chips in with how Sikkim’s location influences its cultural and culinary traditions. Discussing the Rumtek Monastery and its “wide-ranging colour palette”, Abhinandan, as always, reminisces about the beautiful drive to their destination, with wild-grown orchids that reminded him of his childhood in Siliguri. The team attended a morning class at the monastery with the monks where they discovered that irrespective of age and subject matter, a classroom always has its backbenchers — even if it is a religious setup.Rocky, usually known for his activities in front of the camera, was inspired by his surroundings and the favourable habitat it naturally provided for birds. So, he got behind the camera instead, and Abhinandan says it was in Sikkim that Rocky took some of his best photographs. On the subject of Sikkim’s scenic beauty, they talk about how in the last few years, Sikkim has been the only Indian state to only consume and produce 100 percent organic food. Prashant and Mayur, the inhouse trekking enthusiasts, talk about an underrated trek in Sikkim that all nature lovers should go for. They also talk about the state’s cuisine, Danny Denzongpa’s brewery, and the taste of hot butter tea.All this and more, only on Highway On My Podcast. Proving that the black audience will take, a non 'super black' exploitation movie seriously. 31. QUESTION: What pops out for you? 32. Socio-political (1st major shift to a new direction, political power) 33. Shirley Anita Chisholm, (@ 47): politician, educator, and author of "Unbought and Unbossed! -1970 autobiographies. 34. in 1972, she became the first black person EVER to run for POTUS AND the first woman to run for the Democrats. 35. Already, in 1968, she was the first black woman elected to Congress. 36. Her campaign was underfunded, dismissed as a symbolic, & basically ignored by the power structure. 37. And she was not instantly a heroine for black people. 38. Of course, black male colleagues showed little love: "When I ran for the Congress, when I ran for president, I met more discrimination as a woman than for being black. Men are men.... They think I am trying to take power from them. The black man must step 39. forward, but that doesn't mean the black woman must step back." 40. QUESTION: Is this the real reason more black women haven't run? (only other black woman was Carol Moseley Braun from Il in 2004) 41. About her legacy, she said, “I want to be remembered as a woman … who dared to be a catalyst of change.” (Obama?) 42. Famous Quotes: 43. "Tremendous amounts of talent are lost to our society just because that talent wears a skirt." 44. "The emotional, sexual, and psychological stereotyping of females begins when the doctor says, 'It's a girl'." 45. "In the end, anti-black, anti-female, and all forms of discrimination are equivalent to the same thing - anti-humanism." 46. Conclusion: In our lifetime we saw THE MOST successful path for black advancement. Politics. Only 36 years from Shirley to Obama. 47. Shirley Chisholm was an underappreciated legend and icon. 48. Other Comments? 49. Meanwhile...the Black Power Movement is falling apart! (2nd major shift) 50. 1971-1972 the Panthers split into different camps. Huey vs Eldrigdge 51. They went "Hatfield vs McCoy" and started retaliatory assassinations. 52. H. Rap Brown (@ 29), is the latest high-profile BPM figure to fall. 53. Others include: Angela Davis, Assata Shakur, Elaine Brown, Eldridge Cleaver, Fred Hampton, Huey P. Newton, Stokely Carmichael, and Bobby Seale 54. H Rap Brown sentenced for an attack on a New York City bar?!?! 55. Currently serving a life sentence for murder after shooting of two Sheriff's deputies in 2000. 56. He was known for taking over SNCC after Stokely and his autobiography, Die Nigger Die! 57. Probably most famous for saying, "violence is as American as cherry pie” -and- "If America don't come around, we're gonna burn it down." 58. QUESTION: Was the decline of the BPM more internal (reliance on the gun and violence), external (black people lost interest) -OR- did black people choose to go the "integration" route? 59. Conclusion: The BPM had a great message: Pride, Self-reliance, and education. But, I think they were too extreme. 60. Other Comments: 61. Key Artist - Diana Ross (@28): Singer, songwriter, actress, and record producer. Born and raised in Detroit. 76. Became famous as the lead singer the Supremes, the best charting girl group in history. With twelve number-one hit singles. ("Where Did Our Love Go", "Baby Love", "Come See About Me", "Stop! In the Name of Love", "You Can't Hurry Love", "You Keep Me 77. Hangin' On", "Love Child", and "Someday We'll Be Together", etc...) 78. The movie dream girls was inspired by the group 79. She also did a few big films: Lady Sings the Blues, Mahogany, The Wiz, etc... 80. Question: Here's my problem with The Boss. Mary Wilson was the heart and soul of the Supremes. Florence Ballard was the best singer. Diana was what? 81. Conclusion: The Supremes were deliberately glamorous, because Gordy wanted all of Motown to be crossover artists. Beyonce has real game, I'm not convinced Diana wasn't just hyped up. 82. Other Comments: 83. Key Artist - Al Green (@26): singer, songwriter and record produce. Born in AR, grew up in Michigan, discovered in Memphis. 84. Kicked out of the house when his very religious daddy caught him listening to Jackie Wilson. 85. Quote: "I also listened to Mahalia Jackson, all the great gospel singers. But the most important music to me was those hip-shaking’ boys: Wilson Pickett and Elvis Presley. I just loved Elvis Presley. Whatever he got, I went out and bought." 86. Started out in 1967, flashed in 1971 with the album, "Al Green Gets Next to You", PEAKED in 1972 with 2 albums - "Let's Stay Together" & "I'm Still in Love with You", and capped 1973 with the lp "Call Me", a critically acclaimed "Masterpiece!" 87. Basically, everything we love about Al was dropped in that 3-year window. 88. 1974 he was born again 89. Soon after that his "girlfriend" dumped boiling grits on him in the bathtub before shooting and killing herself. (with his gun!?) 90. By 1976, he was ready to go gospel. 91. His longtime producer, Willie Mitchell (the guy who discovered him and crafted his music), passed on doing gospel music. (Bounced check story) 92. 1977, he dropped "The Belle Album", his 12th. Rolling Stone magazine said, "We may someday look back on The Belle Album as Al Green’s best" 93. Question: Just an observation really. This is the 3rd major shift in 1972. Al didn't make political or activist music. Some said he was the last great "Soul Man". In 1971 Marvin asked, what's going on. During 1972, in the middle of war protests, Watergate, an 94. election, civil rights protests, the Panthers shooting up the streets, Al Green made LOVE ok again. 95. Other Comments: 96. Vote: Key Artists, ________________________________ 97. Movies 98. Lady Sings the Blues: Based on Lady Sings the Blues by Billie Holiday 99. Starring: Diana Ross (@28), Billy Dee Williams (@35), Richard Pryor (@32) 100. Blacula: important because it was a successful black horror film 101. Buck and the Preacher: important for casting blacks as leads in a western and was the first film Sidney Poitier directed 102. Super Fly: 4th Major shift (The streets are talking) 103. Priest is done with the clothes, the cars, the drugs, the money, and the white women. 104. But, his partner, Eddie isn’t. 105. Quote (Eddie talking to Priest): "You're gonna give all this up? 8-Track Stereo, color T.V. in every room, and can snort a half a piece of dope everyday? That's the American Dream, nigga! Well, ain't it? Ain't it?" 106. Curtis Mayfield (@30) wrote and produced the AMAZING soundtrack. 107. Starring: Ron O’Neal (@35), Carl Lee (@46), Sheila Frazier (@24) 108. At the time of its release, lots of black folks didn't like what Super Fly was representing. 109. Quote from the Hollywood NAACP branch: “we must insist that our children are not exposed to a steady diet of so-called black movies that glorify black males as pimps, dope pushers, gangsters, and super males.” 110. The filmmakers (White producer / black director) say they wanted to show the negative and empty aspects of the drug subculture. 111. Regardless, Super Fly landed BIG TIME with the "post-Civil Rights" generation. 112. They thought Eddie spoke the gospel. 113. Quote (Eddie talking to Priest): " I know it's a rotten game, but it's the only one The Man left us to play. That's the stone, cold truth." 114. Question: Ultimately, what is the legacy of Superfly? 115. Conclusion: I really enjoyed the movie. However, it blatantly dismissed the BPM, and spoke directly to the criminal elements in the black community. This movie, along with the "Urban" writers, Donald Goines and Iceberg Slim, helped spawn a generation 116. of criminals. That can't be a good thing. 117. Other comments: 118. Vote: Key movie, ____________________________________ 119. Television 120. Jan - Sanford and Son debuts on NBC (6 seasons) 121. Groundbreaking: 1st "Black" cast sit-com on the air...at least 2yrs before: That's My Mama ('74), Good Times ('74), The Jeffersons ('75), and What's Happening!!('76) 122. Theme music by Quincy Jones (@39) 123. Starring: Redd Foxx (@50), and Demond Wilson (@26) 124. Foxx was born in St. Louis, raised in Chicago, and ran the streets with pre-Muslim Malcolm X back in the day. 125. He came up performing raunchy comedy and developed a cult following in the 50's and 60's. 126. In 1970 he flashed in the comedy movie "Cotton Comes to Harlem" and the producer of All in the Family hit him up. 127. Question: Is Lamont crazy? Quote: "MLK left black people hooked on economic dependence and Sanford and Son taught entrepreneurship" 128. Conclusion: Undeniably funny. Redd had the respect and help from some of the best young comics in the business, black and white. Classic! 129. Other Comments: 130. Sep - Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids (8 seasons) 131. Fat Albert first popped up in 1967 during Cosby's stand-up comedy routine "Buck Buck," 132. Starring: Bill Cosby (@35) 133. Born and raised in Philly. High school drop-out. Got his G.E.D. and went to Temple Univ. on a scholarship. While bartending, he discovered his comedy talent. 134. He dropped out of college and mastered crossover comedy in the early sixties. 135. In 1965 he broke out in the hit tv series I-Spy and by 1970 he was America's top Black comic. 136. He went back to college in 1970 and got involved with PBS and the Electric Company. 137. During this time, he cooked up "Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids" 138. It was based on his childhood friends and every show had an educational lesson in it. 139. A long time ago, I met a (French) woman at Haven's Kitchen that ate honey turmeric toast every single morning - and she was gorgeous and chic and amazing. This dish is inspired by her. Join me and Foursquare's Kayleigh Harrington as we girl talk and make Honey Turmeric Labneh with Poached Eggs & Hot Butter.

The 80's vibes can be felt on street. In the spirit of the moment, I've decided to dig around the archive and the web for any local interrelated electronica to the 80's. Firstly a track 'Komputer Muzik' from Fransisca Peter that not quit seems to fit in most of her album (it was never intended to be an electronica music) but the 80's music vibe and the presence of Kraftwerks are an undeniable influence. Secondly, leaping to year 2000, 2005 to be exact. One of the Malaysian godfather of electronic music: Syko G, have released an album called 'Rave-Olusi', its a double cd packed with 'pedas remixs' and an original of several top malaysian artist back in the 80's and late 80's. In this podcast, i'm previewing one my (nostalgic) tracks by Syko G remixs upon 'meniti titian usang by Search'. And lastly, a track by Hotbutter called 'Popcorn' (originally composed by Moog godfather - Gershon Kingsley, used as the intermission & intro by TV Pendidikan Malaysia.
Ana's birthday has come and gone - a more festive time out than she'd thought it would be (still I was hoping for more but as these things go I am always more optimistic than is reasonable). The night began with a re-visit to the Tea Lounge in Park Slope, a gathering and launch off point for the various parties who I had hoped would congregate there before setting off to trip the light retrotastic at the Culture Club. Such was not to be the case - as ominously a Fleetwood Mac CD (Greatest Hits, I do believe) had gotten stuck in an infinite loop and everyone was subjected to two hours of breathless early 80's pap. Due to time constraints Fleetwood Mac will not be represented in this podcast. When complaints were lodged with the staff the music quickly got shuffled around to the likes of Modest Mouse - here freely intrepreted in a nice piece by World Famous Audio Hacker. The highlight of the first phase of the night was the presentation of the video compilation done by our friends back in Portland. A lot of good memories and sad nostalgia got built up and released by this singularly awesome reminiscence. This kernal of solid awesome is represented here by our friends doing a birthday ballad to Ana, a fine little track that is a bit more coherent than anything I've ever done. The fun continued with a surprise visit from super-student Tomohiro. Luckily enough he is a conspicous character, and was quickly besieged by the family of English teachers and their various lessons of puppy and "hanging in there". Tomo is here represented by Hifana a not to be missed breakbeat group that I have featured before. It was due to Tomo that I myself was introduced to their fiery tempo of heavy breaks. Be sure to check out their incredible video over here. When we finally did set out it, wasn't to any high-falutin' Manhattan culture hole, but a half-block down to the Union Hall! A Brooklyn Birthday entirely contained in the space of a football field. Upon entry to the Home of the Park Slope Famous Bocci Ball Courts, we got a the first taste of the retro back pedalling that is a bar playing the Clash's Rock the Casbah. Here to keep the feeling alive I've replaced the original with the mildly modified Rythm Scholars version. The downstairs dance floor was awash with the solid dance tracks of the obscure, which unfortunately I could not find representatives for, such as a track from the Mo'Wax label I couldn't place but know I've heard before, a track from Hot Butter, and many more. Great Fun was had by all and is here represented Blondie's "Heart of Glass", The Beastie Boys "So Whatcha Want", a clip from Grant Stetski, and Belle and Sebastian's "We are the Sleepyheads". Incredibley of those four songs - three were played on the dance floor but the one that was not is actually the most dance dance song of them all. To clarify, yes I shook it like I made it to the intermitentment beats of Belle and Sebastian. Rounding this all out is a bit of primal scream therapy from Aa the tribal electro punk outfit from (drum roll) Brooklyn. Nothing like a soul shattering mournful yelp to express the rightful existential quagmire that are birthdays. Thanks for having another year on Earth with me Babe - we'll try our best to keep this all together. Thanks also to all the well wishers, visitors, guests, dancers, and contributers who helped make it a good night out. 1. World Famous Audio Hacker - Dashboard 2.0 Retouch22.
