“Beware lest you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.' You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth…” - Deuteronomy 8:17-18This passage powerfully reminds us that God owns everything, and we are merely stewards of what He has entrusted to us for a season. Today, Cody Hobelman joins us to discuss how you can establish your first financial finish line.Cody Hobelmann is a Certified Financial Professional (CFP®), a Certified Kingdom Advisor (CKA®), and is the Chief Business Development Officer at Turning Point Financial. He and his brother Kealan founded the Finish Line Pledge and cohost the Finish Line Podcast, where they discuss the intersection of faith, generosity, and personal finance. The Challenge of ProsperityProsperity presents a significant challenge—perhaps more so than hardship. While we live in one of the most prosperous nations in history, this struggle with abundance is not unique to our time. The book of Deuteronomy mentions how the Israelites stood on the edge of the Promised Land after 40 years in the desert. Moses knew that once they entered the land flowing with milk and honey, they would face a new kind of test—not hunger, disease, or war, but the temptation to rely on their own strength rather than God's provision.Just as the Israelites needed a reminder that all wealth belongs to God, we, too, need to set guardrails against the deceptive power of wealth. One of the most effective tools for doing this is the concept of a financial finish line.Five Approaches to GivingBefore diving into how to set a financial finish line, here are five major approaches to giving:Spontaneous Giving—Giving as needs arise, without much planning.A Giving Goal—Setting a target amount to give annually.Percentage Giving—Committing to give a fixed percentage of income.Incremental Percentage Giving—Increasing the percentage of giving over time.A Financial Finish Line—Setting a cap on personal spending, allowing everything beyond that to be given away. The first four methods focus on how much to give, while the financial finish line flips the paradigm. Instead, it asks, “How much do I truly need?” and commits to giving away the excess.Breaking Down the Financial Finish LineSo, how do you actually set a financial finish line? Financial stewardship can be broken down into four key categories:Personal Spending—Lifestyle expenses (housing, food, transportation, etc.).Taxes—The portion owed to the government.Future Planning—Savings for upcoming expenses, investments, and retirement.Kingdom Building—Everything given to ministry, charity, and impact projects.Since lifestyle spending is the primary determinant of financial behavior, the crucial first step is to cap personal spending.Three Methods to Set a Finish LineHere are three practical approaches to setting your first financial finish line:Maintenance Spending Finish Line—Freezing your current lifestyle spending at a set amount, preventing lifestyle creep as income rises. Benchmark Spending Finish Line—Using census data or external benchmarks to determine a reasonable spending cap based on objective measures. The Finish Line Pledge website offers a calculator to help with this (finishlinepledge.com/calculator). Prioritization Spending Finish Line—Evaluating where your money currently goes, eliminating non-essential expenses, and focusing only on what aligns with God's priorities for your life.Whichever method you choose, the goal is the same: determine what is “enough” and dedicate the rest to Kingdom impact. This concept is not just for the wealthy. Defining ‘enough' changes everything; if you never define it, you'll never reach it.Testing your financial finish line for three to six months. Many who do find it transformative—not just financially, but spiritually. It shifts the mindset from ownership to stewardship, freeing us to see money as a tool for God's Kingdom rather than a source of security.Next Steps: Where to BeginTo get started:Visit finishlinepledge.com and explore the calculator.Set a trial finish line for 3–6 months.Adjust over time as you refine what “enough” looks like in your life.Discuss this approach with a Kingdom-minded financial advisor, especially a Certified Kingdom Advisor (CKA), who can help integrate this principle into a broader financial plan.Setting a financial finish line is a process, not a one-time decision. It's a faith journey that requires intentionality, wisdom, and a willingness to surrender financial control to God.If you're ready to take the next step, check out finishlinepledge.com and consider taking the pledge. It may just transform your relationship with money—and with God.Faithful Steward: FaithFi's New Quarterly MagazineIf you'd like to explore this idea further, you can read Cody's full article, “Setting Your First Finish Line,” in the latest edition of Faithful Steward. You can receive this quarterly magazine and help equip believers with biblical financial wisdom by becoming a FaithFi Partner. In this special 100th episode, the shoe is on the other foot as Kealan and Cody are interviewed by Todd Harper, co-founder of Generous Giving, and David Wills, President Emeritus of the National Christian Foundation (NCF). Together, Kealan and Cody share about their family and faith backgrounds, how they got started on their journeys of generosity, and some of the amazing things they've learned along the way. The interviews conducted over the last 99 episodes have been life-changing for the Hobelmann brothers in many ways by providing opportunities for “spiritual templating,” implementing what they've learned from others into their own generosity strategies, and by facilitating connection between like-minded Believers. Major topics include: What life looks like now for Cody and Kealan The inspiration for the Finish Line Pledge How setting Financial Finish Lines has changed both of their lives The evolution of the Finish Line Podcast Making the Finish Line Pledge relational Most memorable podcast moments The many ways they have seen God work through the podcast QUOTES TO REMEMBER Cody: It kinda felt like I was walking up a staircase that I could not see the end of. It just continued up into the clouds. But when I set a financial finish line, suddenly I could see the top of the staircase, and I realized I was most of the way up it in terms of the course of my career. Kealan: I appreciate so much more now the true breadth and diversity of expressions of generosity. Cody: We realized that God's up to something that we didn't even notice. We had no idea. It really humbled me and helped me to understand that even though it's a lot to ask of our guests and our wives to carve out this time once a week, once every other week, and do the editing and all that kind of stuff. It is such an honor to be able to do this and we hope to be able to do this for a very long time. Kealan: At this point, I don't ever say for myself or for anybody else, “this is how generosity has to be expressed,” or “this way is how God intends it.” There is too much range of expression that God gives us for anybody to say “it has to be this way.” Cody: I've learned that giving is a lot of fun and it's a relational thing. As a financial planner and as someone who was not giving or living generously, it seemed like a transactional thing. But I'm starting to understand that it's far more complex than that and far mor joy-creating for everyone involved. Cody: I'm learning that generosity and giving are not the same thing. Giving is an expression of generosity, but when done in community as a relational thing, there's nothing better and it's become my favorite use of money. Kealan: I just want constant stories and relationships to help me grow as a Believer and not just in generosity. We've grown in prayer and community and so many other areas that are all interrelated to generosity. Cody, seeing the impact this decision had on his brother, decided to also make a finish line pledge. Through his gift of generosity, Cody has found inspiration in the many organizations that are advancing access to the Gospel through Bible translation. This episode explores the possibilities of setting a financial finish line to achieve contentment and redirecting your focus towards God's mission. Learn about the practical impacts of living within this financial boundary, such as how to create a Finish Line Pledge, and how to research what options are available to donate to. B2B Tech Investing Kealan Doyle returns to The Next 100 Days podcast to discuss what's hot in B2B Tech Investing. His company Symvan Capital has made dozens of strategy SEIS and EIS investments into B2B Tech companies. So, what should we look out for right now, in a market downturn? Summary of the Podcast Kealan provided an overview of venture capital trends in the UK, noting the growth of the EIS/VCT market and resulting boom in early-stage tech investing. While valuations ballooned, many inexperienced investors entered, not understanding the risks and volatility inherent to the sector. Current market conditions Kealan described the current B2B tech investing market. It's a bear market. The bear market started 2 years ago (2021-2) as interest rates rose globally. Many overvalued companies face steel down rounds as funding dries up. The Corporate Finance Institute describes 'down rounds': Down round refers to a scenario where the value of a business at a time of investment is below the value of the same business during a previous period or financing round. Normally during a down round, investors purchase equity in the business at a lower price, in comparison to previous investors. Companies who require funding now, need much stronger business cases to raise capital. Custodiex and digital asset security Kealan highlighted Symvan Capital's investment in Manchester based Custodiex. Custodiex is a startup that secures digital assets through "cold storage' offline vaults. Their B2B Tech investing opportunity is about tokenised real estate, art and funds. While regulation remains key, Kealan believe the digital asset sector will emerge from its early volatile years. Potential Policy Changes Under a Labour Government A new labour government may negatively impact EIS/VCT incentives. Potentially individual wealth could be impacted through inheritance and other tax increases. Kealan acknowledge political risks, but felt the digital asset sector's growth would not be significantly curtailed. INVESTOR ALERT - act now before the socialists take power! Chris Parsons A Little Spark Interview with Chris Parsons about A Little Spark and Be That Spark #ALittleSpark #Author #ChrisParsons Hi, and welcome to the show! On today's My Future Business Show I have the pleasure of welcoming to the show, founder of Zuroam Media Mr. Chris Parsons to talk about his book ‘A Little Spark' which is redefining children's literature. Originally from a fishing village in Newfoundland, to a global technology executive, Chris Parsons is now making his mark on children's literature. Because of Chris' ability to tap into wonderfully rich storytelling in an innovative way, people are noticing Zuroam Media and ‘A Little Spark'. In fact, Chris' work has received the Mom's Choice Award for Excellence. Going back a little bit, Chris left his executive position at AT&T behind to focus full time on his true passion and life mission of creating meaningful experiences for children. He subsequently formed a publishing start-up called Zuroam Media and began assembling an amazing team of editors, illustrators, animators and musicians. Chris' vision for “A Little Spark” was to create an experience incorporating a great story, fantastical illustrations with a music soundtrack and an audiobook adaption. In short, to make it an interactive experience for families and classes to read and listen to together, appealing to “kids from 2 to 82.” Chris believes that, by utilizing engaging stories, reading and music, children can be encouraged to Be That Spark and do amazing things with their little lives. Today, Chris lives in Dallas with his wife, Kathleen and their two children Kealan and Maggie where they share a love of all God's creatures including their two Newfoundland Dogs, Bear and Abbey. This is a content-rich conversation in which Chris shares his journey towards turning A Little Spark into a big success. There are many people involved who have helped create this wonderful children's resource, and credit goes to each and every person who has contributed to this amazing book. This week we are joined by soloist of the Estonian National Ballet, Ketlin Oja. Having performed together for years, Ketlin and Kealan are able to draw from their lived experience on stage to share stories – raw and honest – and give the listener real access into the quiet intensity that exists in every dancer in the moments surrounding a debut. It is a very different thing to premiere a role than it is to partner somebody through their premiere. This is amplified if the role is the first foray into soloist or principal dancing, as was the case in 2018 when Ketlin premiered the role of Odette/Odile at only 20 years old, with Kealan as her Prince Siegfried, in front of the entire Estonian ballet community. In this episode they tell stories from the pivotal premiere, discuss the differences – from seemingly small to positively profound – a dancer may feel as they make this transition from "new" to "veteran," and contrast the impacts that an inexperienced partner can have on a male and female dancer.Host: Kealan McLaughlinGuest: Ketlin Oja@ketlinoTwo Two Guys can be reached at:Instagram and Facebook:@twotwoguysEmail:twotwoguyspod@gmail.comLeave a review! Two Two Guys resident sports reporter Dash Grundy is back on the pod and this time he's really bringing the heat. With the addition of Skateboarding, Surfing, and Climbing to the Tokyo Olympics, and the announcement that Breakdancing will make its Olympic debut at the Paris 2024 Summer Games, we discuss the possibility of ballet ever becoming an Olympic event. We look at the process any discipline must go through to become part of the Olympics, address the hurdles specific to ballet, and walk through scenarios of how the event could be structured by comparing it to similar Olympic sports. It's a loose, fun time. Hop in our sidecar and go for a ride with us.PS: Dash drops multiple seriously pitch-worthy ideas and Kealan experiments with creating a richer soundscape for the listener.Host: Kealan McLaughlinGuest: Dash Grundy (IG: @DashGrundy)Two Two Guys can be reached at:Instagram and Facebook:@twotwoguysEmail:twotwoguyspod@gmail.comLeave a review! This week our guest is Joan Jeffri, Director and Creator of the Research Center for Arts and Culture at The Actors Fund in New York City, and former director of the Graduate Program in Arts Administration at Columbia University. Having spent decades teaching arts management, spearheading institutions, and conducting research into the later stage of artists' careers, she brings an unparalleled level of expertise, illustrated in her co-authorship of the 2004 research project "Life After Dance: Career Transition of Professional Dancers." (linked below)Over the course of the episode, Joan and Kealan dive deep into the challenges - both internal and external - a dancer may face as they contemplate and embark on a career change. The reality of this inevitable transition is something most dancers don't consider until late in their careers, and often only when their careers have come to an abrupt end. With Covid-19 increasing the level of job insecurity across the dance world, finding the courage and developing the tools to prepare for one's next steps has never been more important. There are dancer transition centres and resources around the world that are there to help.Multinational - International Organization for the Transition of Professional Dancershttp://www.iotpd.org/Canada - Dancer Transition Resource Centrewww.dtrc.caUnited States - The Actors Fund-Career Transition for Dancershttps://actorsfund.org/services-and-programs/career-transition-dancersThe Dancers Resourcehttps://actorsfund.org/servicesandprograms/dancers-resourceAustralia - AusDancehttps://ausdance.org.au/UK - Dancer's Career Developmenthttps://thedcd.org.uk/France - Centre National de la Dansehttps://www.cnd.fr/fr/Germany - Stiftung Tanzhttps://stiftung-tanz.com/Czech Republic - Dance Career Endowment Fundhttp://tanecnikariera.cz/Poland - The Institute of Music and Dancehttps://www.imit.org.pl/Netherlands - Omscholing Dansers Nederlandhttps://www.omscholingdansers.nl/Korea - Dancers' Career Development Centrehttp://www.dcdcenter.or.kr/Switzerland - Danse Transition (fr, en)https://www.danse-transition.ch/The Transition Centre SSUDK (de, it, en)https://ssudk.ch/Research material referenced in episode:Life after Dance: Career Transition of Professional Dancers (mobile only):https://neumann.hec.ca/aimac2005/PDF_Text/JeffriJ_ThrosbyD.pdfMaking Changes: Facilitating the Transition of Dancers to Post-Performance Careershttps://artsandcultureresearch.org/portfolio/making-changesReach the show at twotwoguyspod@gmail.com or on Instagram @twotwoguys

There is significant benefit to setting a financial finish line early in your career. Kealan and Cody offer a number of pieces of advice for college students interested in the idea of a finish line. We are often caught up in our own stories, our own careers, and our own actions. But as the guys have learned in their own experience, there is a much greater story going on. Rather than being the main character of our own story, we are minor characters in God's story. After discussing some of this foundation, the guys also dive into some practical financial advice for anyone getting started. QUOTES TO REMEMBER "I don't want to get to the end of my life and look back on everything and realize that I had just accidentally made it all the way through life without ever actually doing anything" "That next phase where everything becomes easy and you have all the time in the world to do what you care about most and want to do - that never actually comes. The things that really matter, you really need to start doing now." "The Bible is the collective story of God and what He is doing, and we are all characters in God's story." "At some point, there has to be a point where you've reached enough, where that standard of living does not need to keep increasing as income keeps increasing." "Just like how much space you have in your home determines how much stuff you will have, however much income you have - you'll always find a way to spend it." As the finish line movement has grown, an increasing number of retired people have asked the question, "What does a financial finish line look like if I'm already retired?". Kealan and Cody tackle this questions along with a number of related questions like, "Does it make sense to keep all my savings and give it away when I die?". They also share some practical advice and strategies for giving generously and effectively during retirement. QUOTES TO REMEMBER "For somebody in retirement, there are all these different sorts of income - retirement accounts, social security, pensions, etc - and somebody can ask themselves that same question, 'How much do I need to live on realistically, so that I can be freed up to use any excess beyond that amount for greater things beyond myself?'' "The typical question people are asking after retirement is, 'How much have I saved? And from that, how much can I spend every year or every month?'. And what you're saying is that's the wrong question altogether. We should be asking, 'How much should I be spending?'" "I don't think for us, that every penny in excess of our living expenses should go towards additional security and moving us farther away from ever having to depend on God or others." Are you not of more value than they? 27 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? 28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Luke 12:16-21 | The Rich Fool 16 And he told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man produced plentifully, 17 and he thought to himself, ‘What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?' 18 And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods.19 And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.”' 20 But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?' 21 So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.” We Want to Hear From You! A financial finish line is a point at which you say, "Any money God blesses me with beyond this point, I will use to serve others and advance God's kingdom." But what does that look like for someone with an irregular income. Many people have varying sources of income through the year, like seasonal jobs, year-end bonuses, side gigs, temp work, and self-employment. Is a finish line still possible for someone in these situations? If so, how should they think about the process of choosing a finish line? Kealan and Cody break down all these questions and share their thoughts (and personal experience) with finish lines in the context of variable income. QUOTES TO REMEMBER "An irregular income might change over the course of the year which seasons you have excess to give and which seasons you don't, but I don't think it changes that core fundamental question of 'How much do I need for myself and my family to live on?'" "For people earning less than their selected finish line, I think it's actually more important to have that finish line in place when you do have irregular income." Then he went away. 16 He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he made five talents more. 17 So also he who had the two talents made two talents more. 18 But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master's money. 19 Now after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them. 20 And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me five talents; here, I have made five talents more.' 21 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.' 22 And he also who had the two talents came forward, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me two talents; here, I have made two talents more.' 23 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.' 24 He also who had received the one talent came forward, saying, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you scattered no seed, 25 so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here, you have what is yours.' 26 But his master answered him, ‘You wicked and slothful servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I scattered no seed? 27 Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received what was my own with interest. 28 So take the talent from him and give it to him who has the ten talents.29 For to everyone who has will more be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. 30 And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.''' Kealan and Cody dive into another listener Q&A where they answer the question, “How does setting a finish line affect saving for retirement?”. As with many things, setting a financial finish line flips around much of the traditional personal finance wisdom. Kealan and Cody first break down some of the traditional wisdom on saving for retirement. Afterwards, listen as they share their thoughts on how setting a finish line changes our strategy and goals for retirement. QUOTES TO REMEMBER “If you can say, this is a lifestyle that I am perfectly happy with, and will be into retirement, then you can get a ballpark estimate for what it will cost to fund that.” “You can make the mistake of putting so much energy into the forward looking mindset of saving for retirement that you miss out on all sorts of opportunities for generosity and the rich life that Paul talks about.” LINKS FROM THE SHOW Finish Line Calculator Finish Line SPRINTs BIBLE REFERENCES FROM THE SHOW 1 Timothy 6:17-19 | The Uncertainty of Riches 17 As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 18 They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, 19 thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life. Kealan and Cody dive into another listener Q&A where they answer two finish line questions. The first is “Do gifts come out of our budget, or the excess?”. This is one of a variety of questions that get into the fine details of a finish line, sand one that is particularly relevant for December. The second question is “When is it okay to change my finish line? How should I approach that process?”. Anyone who sets a finish line will consider this question at some point, and the guys share a helpful framework to go about the process. QUOTES TO REMEMBER: “Would the average American family spend money on this kind of gift?” “We look at gifts through the lens of ‘was this gift expected?'” “There is a deep joy to be found in living a life where you are constantly struggling to categorize an expense as spending or giving, because that means you have oriented your life and the things you are using your money for in a way that God is using you and your family.” “I hope that through my life, we are constantly blurring the lines between spending and giving.” “You might have to step back and think about why you have a finish line in the first place.” “Does this change in finish line best help me to handle the money God has given me to manage?” “If you are considering changing your finish line, is there another way to rearrange your budget or change your spending habits to avoid changing your finish line?” LINKS FROM THE SHOW The Bible Project Finish Line Calculator Finish Line SPRINTs WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! Welcome to Two Two Guys! On this episode, hosts Adam and Kealan introduce themselves, give a little backstory on who they are, and share why they wanted to start a podcast in the first place.
Kealan and Cody break down the question, “How do I choose a finish line for my spending?”. A majority of the time, when someone's income goes up, their spending goes up some degree as well. But when we really think about the idea that everything that we have belongs to God, we realize that there is only so much that we need for ourselves and our families. A finish line is the maximum amount we need to support ourselves and our families each month. If God blesses us with any income beyond our finish line, we set it aside to give away as God leads us. There are a number of practical considerations when choosing a finish line, and the guys break each of these down one by one. NOTE: The Finish Line Pledge was formerly known as Aspiring to the Median. All references to Aspiring to the Median and to www.aspiringtothemedian.com are interchangeable with the Finish Line Pledge and www.finishlinepledge.com. The former IMPACT program has since evolved into Finish Line SPRINTs. QUOTES TO REMEMBER: “If you think back through the Bible narrative, even back to Genesis 1, God creating everything from nothing, it seems obvious that everything belongs to God, but that's often not how we intrinsically think about our finances.” “There's an intense physical ownership that we feel when it comes to our money.” “When we see ourselves as a manager of something that belongs to God, the question starts to change from ‘How much do I owe back to God' to ‘How much of God's wealth should I be taking for myself?'” “Money and wealth are very powerful, and there are two sides to that coin” “One thing that is clear is that our wealth on this earth certainly will not follow us to Heaven” “You never see a hearse followed by a uHaul” LINKS FROM THE SHOW God and Money by John Cortines and Greg Baumer The IMPACT program BIBLE REFERENCES FROM THE SHOW Ecclesiastes 5:12 | No Satisfaction in Money Sweet is the sleep of a laborer, whether he eats little or much, but the full stomach of the rich will not let him sleep. 1 Timothy 6:9-10 | Money is a Root of All Kinds of Evil 9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. 1 Timothy 6:18-19 | Don't Put Hope in Wealth 18 They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, 19 thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life. Matthew 6:19-21 | Where Your Treasure Is, Your Heart Is 19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. In this episode, cohost Kealan shares his journey through medical school and residency training searching for an answer to the question, "How much money do I really need?" He describes how God graciously answered a radical prayer that set the foundation for how he views money and wealth. After reading through scripture, Kealan and his wife, Alison, sought to answer the question, "How much do we really need for ourselves?". That question led to setting a financial finish line, and ultimately to the Finish Line Pledge (previously known as the Aspiring to the Median movement). Listen now to hear the full story. Have you ever considered the idea that everything we own, everything we have ever owned, and everything we ever will own belongs to God? We tend to think of ourselves as owners, but any serious look at scripture shows us that everything belongs to God, and we are simply stewards, or managers, over whatever portion He has given us. It’s our second week of Feel Good Friday and for week 2, we surprised Jane Donegan, a teacher from Clonmel. Jane was nominated by her friend Sarah who told us what an amazing friend she is. She described her as kind, caring and loving and the sentiments were echoed by her partner Kealan and daughter Alannah. She went above and beyond for her students in the first lockdown, staying up late to print worksheets and plans and posting them to students who didn’t have access to a computer. She is a true everyday hero.
Kealan Harrington owns and operates Going The Ultra Mile, his media company that supports entrepreneurs transitioning into careers that fulfill and align them with their values, passion and purpose. When he's not busy working, or training, Kealan is busy writing part of his upcoming trilogy of books or spending time with family. Despite his many adversities in life, time spent in The Irish Army, Naval Service and French Foreign Legion helped Kealan develop an unparalleled physical and mental toughness, proof being his many athletic and martial arts endeavours and achievements. These include teaching close quarter combat to military and law enforcement personnel and completing 2000 sit-ups and 90-minutes' worth of a plank in 7 hours and 15 minutes. In 2019, Kealan ran nine (separate) one hundred mile courses over nine weeks to raise money for several charities; an incredible feat of stamina that did not go unnoticed by media outlets. In this episode Kealan talks about online communication for your business. We cover the topics: - What do we need to do if we want to develop business in the online world? What are the first steps? - What is the basic equipment we need to have to start producing content online? - Which social media platforms are recommended to start communicating our business online? Listen to the clear and strong mindset of someone who has been to the Irish Army, Naval service, and French Foreign Legion, is a businessman all set to break the record of Wim Hoff aka The Iceman. Join us as Kealan Harrington talks about how he hates running, yet, the compulsion to train his mental capacity and the tipping point for attempting to break the world record by running nine 100 mile marathons over the course of nine weeks. Someone who believes in himself, has taken negative things and used them as fuel to build a ‘Never say Die’ mind-set, follows the principle ‘Success leaves Clues’ and says, “Stop caring what people say, It’s a noose around your neck…” A straight from the heart kind of unmissable conversation for Entrepreneurs to understand what is not taught in B schools about ’The War Room’ and ‘The Damn Goals’. ============================================================= For more such interesting episodes, follow this channel and hit SUBSCRIBE. Financing New Tech Companies with Kealan Doyle Another returning guest today - the charming Irishman Kealan Doyle talking to us about financing new tech companies. Living in London, things are a bit haywire as Covid-19 rules the roost. We're hoping Kevin will be safe though, being in the folds of the deep North in Northumberland! Kealan has just-about finished anew article to publish. We're in a remarkable time of self-isolation and quarantine. It's all very new and we are seeing very different reactions. Financial markets will probably fall further. However, there are some signs that we can see the light - no new cases of coronavirus in China and the death rate in Germany is only 0.2% in contrast to 7% in Italy. There are glimpses of light. Kealan thinks the market will start coming back before too long. A nasty recession but it'll be short and we will bounce back. Trump and the 'China Virus' Going off track for a little while, Kevin marvels at the cleverness behind Trump's use of words and, in particular, nicknames. Though all politicians are due to lie, he called his opponents names that focussed the mind: crooked Hilary, lying Ted. They all generate a keen eye to find the lie in political campaigns. Financing new tech companies What we like about Kealan is his in depth and sound assertions in regards to finance. And of course we trust what he says as he is indeed working in the world of finance at the heart of London. In particular, he helps finance new tech companies. http://thenext100days.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Technology-and-must-have-problems.mp4 Must have technologies often sit within must have products such as insurance. Kealan and his colleagues are solving must have needs. How does Kealan help people? Kealan's company has an EIS fund. But how does that work? Enterprise Investment Schemes has helped the UK from having little to no enterprise market to having an abounding selection of SME investments that have been generated and invested in. http://thenext100days.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Should-employers-keep-their-employees.mp4 Kealan's opinion is that we're close to a great time to buy. We can often talk ourselves down and, when you turn on the tv, it's talking about the crisis 24/7. It's, quite frankly, depressing. The only thing that the media is putting out is negativity. Kealan thinks its right that there are eminent scientists being interviewed, and researched news be broadcast. There's good debates going on. However, people need to stop buying toilet paper. The actions of the few are affecting the many when it comes to those stock piling resources. It's been a reaction completely to the antithesis of those of earlier generations where people worked together and enjoyed a collegiate community. In contrast, we're riding on the survival mode of 'bugger you, I am getting what I want.' Brexit http://thenext100days.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Brexit.mp4 Graham's disappointed that Brexit is most likely going to be delayed because all the brain power is being funnelled into dealing with coronavirus. However, there's no choice really. This is a bigger priority. Everything else is currently receding in light of the Covid-19 outbreak. What kind of consideration would we have if we checked EIS funds out now whilst the world is a mess? A lot of people are going to be looking at opportunities to invest once the dust has settled. There's good value to be had because prices will be low (for a reason, obviously) and that will provide opportunity. People should be looking at the potential in financial markets and going against the grain when it comes to timing, not going with the herd. When you start running with the herd, you get stamped upon. When it comes to investing in an EIS fund, is it logical that you can buy at this stage and benefit or is it a much longer play? Well, investing in an EIS fund is a much longer play anyway.
Although experts will say we've never lived in a more peaceful time, media has a tendency to manipulate our perspective into thinking the opposite. We hear of violence, division, and hatred all around us. With this narrative playing out in the background, it's not hard to see a connection to the sharply increasing mental health problems in our society.Citizenship has therefore never been more important both as an individual and business competency. And who better to demonstrate how to do citizenship better than... a boxing studio? Calgary-based Rumble Boxing Studio was discovered by undoing co-founder David Gaudet in 2018. He and his daughters became members of the "Rumble Tribe", enjoying the benefits of community and confidence-building first-hand. Taking a deeper interest into how Rumble has gained an upper hand in this rapidly growing fitness trend, Dave convinced co-founder Kealan Bailey to sit down to tell the Rumble story, and share its values. In the opening, Dave and undoing partner Marc Boivin attempt to chat over the thunderous heavy-bag assault of Rumble-trainer Amy Lee at the northwest Calgary location. Dave is then joined by Kealan at a nearby Starbucks.More information about Rumble Boxing Studio can be found at www.rumbleboxing.com. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Born and raised in a small harbor town in the south of Ireland, Kealan Patrick Burke knew from a very early age that he was going to be a horror writer. The combination of an ancient locale, a horror-loving mother, and a family full of storytellers, made it inevitable that he would end up telling stories for a living. Since those formative years, he has written five novels, over a hundred short stories, six collections, and edited four acclaimed anthologies. In 2004, he was honored with the Bram Stoker Award for his novella The Turtle Boy. Dan and I had a wonderful time talking with Horror Writer Kealan Patrick Burke about his writing and lots of other kinda unrelated topics. Topics ranged from toilet sharks, elaborate shorts, death, Roman Polanski, poverty, writing stories about people in bars and other exciting things including the time I accidentally sanded off my fingernails while making a Van Halen key chain when I was a kid and how Dan Pullen may be a turtle murderer. Oh yeah, and we are all nothing but a 'basket of hammers'. Kealan is writing some of the best new Horror out there. We highly recommend his work. Kealan's website Kealan's Amazon Page

Have you ever considered how to make more of your investment portfolio? Or perhaps you have a business with big potential that needs investors? Kealan Doyle tells us all about venture capital investing and how a venture capital fund operates. About Kealan Doyle Kealan Doyle from Symvan Capital, an award-winning EIS/SEIS technology venture capital fund manager, joins The Next 100 Days Podcast to explain the potential to deliver exceptional investment returns from identifying start-up and scale-up high growth technology companies. His father was from Dublin and his mother was born in England, he was born in England and grew up in Canada and has lived in London for the last 25 years. His career started in investment banks and performed roles as an economist and running a global equity derivatives team. Alongside his business partner of 13 years Nic Nicolaides, he runs Symvan Capital. They focus on investing in growth companies. In particular, investing in technology companies. How to invest in technology business - Kealan Doyle Where does the word SYMVAN come from? Symvan Capital was started as a corporate finance advisory company for technology businesses. In the last few years, it has morphed into an asset management company. In 2008, at a different company where Kealan and Nic worked, before the collapse of Lehman Brothers, oil was at a very high price and it was causing a lot of the budget airlines to have a real problem, because they hadn't hedged their exposure. A lot of them were loss making. There was a move to consolidate them all, which ended up not working, but they had to come up with a product, a bond that turned into an equity if an event happens. To cut a long story short, they were looking for a name for the product. They asked a Greek colleague how he would describe it. He used the word ‘symvan'. Almost like catalyst. It is something that causes something else to happen. When they went to name their business, Kealan and Nic, felt Symvan had good connotations for them, and so named the firm Symvan Capital. They also wanted a name that wasn't offensive in another language! Venture Capital Investing in Technology Businesses – why it's important to the UK? This podcast is not offering investment advice, but what is interesting is understanding the processes and benefits of investing in technology businesses as part of a balanced investment portfolio. Historically, at the time of the industrial revolution, Britain was the first country to move to the next stage of human economic development. It's still true today. The UK, is a very innovative economy, always has been and probably always will be. Example, from the FT's research of the Top 1000 high growth firms in Europe, 24% of them are British. https://ig.ft.com/ft-1000/ 19% were from Italy and 14% were from France. This is not a new phenomenon. But, according to Kealan, there is a lot of inventiveness in the UK without the necessary financial backing. So, on the one hand, you have the City of London, dominant in global finance. And then you have all these innovators, coming from places like Cambridge, Nottingham, Bath etc. The environment has changed a lot, because technology has changed dramatically, but also it is a very global thing. So, there may be an English person working with French and Italian people to come up with something. The UK creates a great backdrop for them. It is much more business friendly than France and Italy etc. It is a really fertile environment. Welcome to Dark Discussions podcast. Your place for the discussion of horror film, fiction, and all that's fantastic. Have you ever wondered what the aftermath of some of your favorite films would be like? For example, what would the personality of the final girl in the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre be like? What would the victims’ families do or feel after the crime? What made the villains tick? How did their family structure come about? Just released in trade paperback after being a successful hardcover and e-book, Kealan Patrick Burke's newest novel, Kin, takes a fresh approach to Southern American horror. When a bleeding naked girl walks out of a forest near the farmlands of Alabama, a chain of events occur that brings about both death and deliverance to a large ensemble cast. After the horrendous crimes by a sadistic and morally twisted family, Kealan Patrick Burke focuses on the lone survivor and the families of those who have lost loved ones. Kin is a tale that brings the elements of films and novels of such prominent talents as Tobe Hooper and Jack Ketchum. Yet Kealan Patrick Burke's unique approach takes a well traveled tale and makes it innovative and original. If you are a fan of horror, here's a novel that brings classic grind house to the page in a well written and heart wrenching tale. Dark Discussions discusses the novel and why it is a modern masterpiece. To conclude this week's episode, Kealan Patrick Burke joins your hosts to talk writing and the inspiration of Kin.
