Just last year, Sony had grand designs of a new PlayStation leadership structure executing on an exciting multi-pronged strategy, but only three fiscal quarters later, the plan has come undone. Case Summary - A Presentation of Heart Failure and Heart Block with Elusive Genetic Origins - Cambridge University A man in his 40s with a history of cardiac issues, including prior myocarditis and complete heart block, presented with progressive heart failure symptoms. Extensive cardiac investigations were conducted, revealing dilated left ventricle, mild to moderate left ventricular systolic dysfunction, normal coronaries, infero-lateral late gadolinium enhancement on cardiac MRI, and low-level uptake on PET-CT. Differential diagnosis included worsening underlying cardiomyopathy, recurrent myocarditis, tachycardia-related cardiomyopathy, pacemaker-induced LV dysfunction, and sarcoidosis. The patient's condition improved with heart failure medications, and cardiac MRI showed a mildly dilated left ventricle with moderate systolic dysfunction and active inflammation in the anterior wall. Further evaluation indicated a family history of hereditary cardiomyopathy, and the patient exhibited phenotypic features such as early-onset heart disease, arrhythmias, family history of cardiomyopathy, learning problems, intellectual disability, and mild proximal myopathy. Genetic testing confirmed a LAMP2 mutation, leading to the diagnosis of Danon disease. E., Rai Abstract: Primary motor cortex (M1) has been thought to form a continuous somatotopic homunculus extending down precentral gyrus from foot to face representations1,2. The motor homunculus has remained a textbook pillar of functional neuroanatomy, despite evidence for concentric functional zones3 and maps of complex actions4. Using our highest precision functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data and methods, we discovered that the classic homunculus is interrupted by regions with sharpy distinct connectivity, structure, and function, alternating with effector-specific (foot, hand, mouth) areas. These inter-effector regions exhibit decreased cortical thickness and strong functional connectivity to each other, and to prefrontal, insular, and subcortical regions of the Cingulo-opercular network (CON), critical for executive action5 and physiological control6, arousal7, and processing of errors8 and pain9. This inter-digitation of action control-linked and motor effector regions was independently verified in the three largest fMRI datasets. Macaque and pediatric (newborn, infant, child) precision fMRI revealed potential cross-species analogues and developmental precursors of the inter-effector system. An extensive battery of motor and action fMRI tasks documented concentric somatotopies for each effector, separated by the CON-linked inter-effector regions. The inter-effector regions lacked movement specificity and co-activated during action planning (coordination of hands and feet), and axial body movement (e.g., abdomen, eyebrows). These results, together with prior work demonstrating stimulation-evoked complex actions4 and connectivity to internal organs (e.g., adrenal medulla)10, suggest that M1 is punctuated by an integrative system for implementing whole-body action plans. Thus, two parallel systems intertwine in motor cortex to form an integrate-isolate pattern: effector-specific regions (foot, hand, mouth) for isolating fine motor control, and a mind-body interface (MBI) for the integrative whole-organism coordination of goals, physiology, and body movement. There are no mushy retrospectives for Hooks & Runs' 1st Anniversary episode. That would take foresight and planning -- nobody's got time for that! Instead Eric and Craig dove right in to current events -- the Grammy Awards, Stephen Strasburg on the shelf (where else?), Luis Guillorme's 22-pitch Spring Training at bat, MiLB experimental rules, the NCAA brackets and MLB stadium capacities -- Eric and Craig offered opinions on them all. Some are half-baked; others are a bit over done. YOU be the judge which are which.In Chapter Two, Eric and Craig welcome Ryota Nishino, Site Expert at Sodo Mojo, Fansided's Seattle Mariners blog. The AL West is the podcast's favorite division and the Mariners our second favorite team in that division. The Mariners are knee deep in a rebuild with one of baseball's best farm systems. Kyle Lewis claimed last year's Rookie of the Year Award and the team as more than one candidate for the honor in 2021. Nishino gave us a tour of this year's squad -- still at least a year away, but poised to make a move, possibly challenging for third. The team's achilles heel appears to be its shaky rotation and an unsettled bullpen -- not a recipe for long-term success, but hey, it's early, right?As for the division, Nishino likes the Angels. The consensus picks are the Astros closely followed by the A's with many picking the Angels as best of the rest, so this is something of an outlier pick. You never know with those Pacific Northwest guys. We all agreed the division lacks a dominate team -- 90 wins may well win this division outright in 2021. The podcast's series looking at each division continues next week.

A volcanic island in the western Pacific Ocean just can’t settle down. After not changing much for thousands of years, it’s undergone a series of eruptions in recent decades. That’s made it much bigger. And the eruptions may not be done. Nishino-shima is about 600 miles south-southeast of Tokyo. It’s the tip of a volcano that rises two miles from the ocean floor. Before 1973, the island was only a couple of thousand feet wide, and its volcanic cone rose only a few dozen feet above the waves. And the volcano probably hadn’t erupted in 10,000 years. In May 1973, though, it roared to life. It created a small second island. As the eruption continued, the islands merged. Another big eruption came along in 2013. It also formed a new island. But lava quickly paved over the whole complex. The merged island covered a square mile, and its volcanic cone towered 450 feet above it. Other eruptions followed, with another big one starting in 2020. This one was more violent than the previous ones. Columns of steam and ash rose five miles into the air. Big blocks of rock, known as “bombs,” were blasted up to a mile away. And flowing lava expanded the island even more. By August, it had grown to 1.6 square miles, with the volcano rising higher than ever. The style of this eruption suggests it could go on for a while -- keeping Nishino-shima from settling down.

Seit seiner erstmaligen WM-Qualifikation 1998 war Japan in jeder der darauf folgenden Weltmeisterschaften dabei. Nachdem vor 4 Jahren in Brasilien nach 3 sieglosen Spielen bereits nach der Gruppenphase Schluß war, versuchen die Japaner nun an ihren Achtelfinal-Erfolg von 2010 in Südafrika anzuknüpfen. Text: Kevin Kaschner (90PLUS) Der Weg zur WM: Als Gruppenerster qualifizierte sich Japan für die WM, allerdings nicht ohne ein paar unerwartete Probleme. Zu Beginn der Qualifikation gewann Japan die meisten Spiele deutlich. Allerdings konnte sie die Spiele gegen den vermeintlich schwächeren Konkurrenten Irak im ersten Spiel nur knapp mit 2:1 gewinnen und im Rückspiel reichte es nur für ein 1:1 unentschieden. Auch in weiteren Testspielen kam gegen Mali nur ein 1:1 unentschieden und gegen die Ukraine eine 1:2 Niederlage zustande. Die Konsequenz, ein Trainerwechsel kurz vor dem Turnier soll neuen Schwung bringen. Der Star: Wer ist der Star bei den Blue Samurai? Ohne Frage dürfte das Shinji Kagawa sein. Er ist bei Borussia Dortmund neben Mario Götze der Motor im Mittelfeld. Problem ist nur, durch eine Knöchelverletzung konnte er lediglich 19 Spiele in der vergangenen Bundesliga-Saison absolvieren. Seine WM-Teilnahme ist fraglich. Deshalb ist Keisuke Honda der erfahrenste und beste Spieler der Japaner. Der Mittelfeldspieler wechselte 2017 vom AC Mailand zum mexikanischen Primera Division-Club CF Pachuca. Dort erzielte er in der vergangenen Saison 10 Tore. Mit 36 Toren für die japanische Nationalmannschaft ist er mit Abstand der effektivste Spieler zur Zeit. Der Routinier wird mit seiner Erfahrung und seiner Torgefährlichkeit garantiert der Schlüsselspieler der Japaner. Der mögliche Shooting-Star: Die Anwesenheit mehrerer erfahrener Spieler wie Honda, Sakai und Hasebe könnte Yuya Kubo nutzen. Der 24-jährige Mittelstürmer des belgischen Klubs KAA Gent könnte in Russland die Geheimwaffe der Japaner werden. Durch seine Technik und Schusskraft ist er nicht nur aus dem Spiel heraus jederzeit brandgefährlich, auch bei Standards ist er immer für eine Überraschung gut und nie zu schüchtern auch mal frech direkt aufs Tor zu schießen. Auch in Zweikämpfen zeigt sich Kubo dominant. In Zusammenarbeit mit den Routiniers im Mittelfeld könnte sich Yuya Kubo zu einem explosiven Stürmer im Turnier entwickeln. Der Trainer: Für Trainer Vahid Halilhodzic ist nach drei Jahren in Japan kurz vor der WM bereits Schluss. Mitte April löste der japanische Fußballverband nur zwei Monate vor WM-Start den Vertrag des 65- jährigen Bosniers auf. Grund hierfür war die schlechte Leistung der Japaner in den letzten Qualifikations- sowie Testspielen. Übernehmen wird der ehemalige Nationalspieler Akira Nishino, der bereits die U20 und U23 der Japaner trainierte. 1996 führte er die U23 zu dem historischen 1:0 -ieg gegen Brasilien. Brasilien hatte damals unter anderem Größen wie Ronaldo und Roberto Carlos im Kader. Er kennt das Team und ist mit den Abläufen im Verband bestens vertraut. Sein Ziel ist das Erreichen der K.O.-Phase. Stärken & Schwächen: Der Kader der Japaner ist besetzt mit jeder Menge erfahrener Spieler aus der Bundesliga, sowie anderen Top-Ligen der Welt. Dazu kommen einige junge Talente die von der Erfahrung der anderen profitieren können. Die Mischung findet sich in allen Bereichen, sodass in allen Aspekten des Spiels sowohl erfahrene als auch talentierte Spieler zum Einsatz kommen sollten. Das große Problem werden allerdings die Umstellungen des neuen Trainers Akira Nishino sein. Nicht nur was den Kader angeht, bei dem es sicherlich einige Änderungen im Vergleich zum Kader des alten Trainers geben wird. Auch die Taktik dürfte sich noch einmal drastisch ändern. Nishino steht für traditionellen japanischen Fußball, wohingegen zuvor eine eher europäische Spielart vorgelebt wurde.
