From classical concertos to jazz and rock & roll, from symphonic masterpieces to the most experimental compositions of living composers, Haas has championed, commissioned, unearthed and celebrated music for his instrument, becoming, as Ovation magazine hailed him, "The Paganini of the timpani."His concerts on the world's most prestigious musical stages and his ground-breaking recordings have delighted critics and listeners on both sides of the ocean. The New York Times wrote, "Wherever one finds a percussion instrument waiting to be rubbed, shook, struck or strummed, [Haas] is probably nearby, ready to fulfill his duties with consummate expertise... he is a masterful young percussionist."Most recently, Haas has garnered widespread praise and attention for his performances of Philip Glass' Concerto Fantasy for Two Timpanists and Orchestra, a piece conceived by Haas and completed because of his quest to spotlight the timpani. The Concerto Fantasy features not only two timpanists, but also 14 timpani, all placed downstage in front of the orchestra. In 2000, Haas performed the world premiere of the piece with the American Symphony, and he has subsequently performed it at Carnegie Hall and in Phoenix, New Jersey, Baltimore, Pasadena, Long Beach (California), St. Louis and Mexico City. Haas also performed the European premiere with the BBC Symphony in London, the world premiere of a chamber orchestra version with the Iris Chamber Orchestra in Memphis, the Czechoslovakian premiere with the Prague Symphony Orchestra at the International Music Prague Spring Festival, the Norwegian premiere with the Bergen Philharmonic, and he will perform the Australian premiere with the Sydney Symphony and the Turkish premiere with the Istanbul Philharmonic.Haas' successful efforts to expand the timpani repertoire have led him to commission and premiere more than 25 works by composers in addition to Philip Glass such as Stephen Albert, Marius Constant, Irwin Bazelon, Eric Ewazen, Thomas Hamilton, Robert Hall Lewis, Jean Piche, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Andrew Thomas, and many others.Haas built the world's largest timpani and debuted it in 2003 at the Aspen Music Festival. This unprecendented, incredible instrument -- nearly 6' wide and nearly 4' tall – beats the world's second-largest timpani — a 48-incher used by Amsterdam's Concertgebouw Orchestra — by almost half.Haas' recordings include the trail-blazing 18th Century Concertos for Timpani and Orchestra and Johnny H. and the Prisoners of Swing, both on Sunset Records. The latter was named for his jazz group and features innovative renderings of jazz compositions featuring "hot timpani" in front of a full jazz ensemble. His rediscovery of Duke Ellington's brilliant composition for jazz timpani, "Tympaturbably Blue," is included on this recording, as are other jazz standards played on a set of ten kettledrums.Demonstrating a remarkable versatility as a musician, Haas has performed and recorded with Emerson, Lake and Palmer, played on the Grammy Award-winning recording Zappa's Universe, recorded with Aerosmith, Michael Bolton, Black Sabbath, and explored heavy metal with his rock group Clozshave. The rarest of modern virtuosi, Haas embarked on his career as a solo timpanist by performing the only solo timpani recital ever presented at Carnegie Recital Hall in 1980. As an orchestral soloist, he made his debut with the New York Chamber Orchestra under Maxim Shostakovich and his European solo debut with the Bournemouth Sinfonietta. He made his French debut performing Andrez Panufnick's Concerto for Percussion, Timpani and Orchestra with the Orchestra de la Garde Republicaine. He was the soloist in the Druschetsky Concerto for Eight Timpani, Oboe and Orchestra with the Aspen Chamber Orchestra. He has also performed as a solo timpanist for the Distinguished Artists Recital Series at New York's 92nd Street ‘Y' and as a guest artist with the Lincoln Center Chamber Society, the Chamber Music at the ‘Y' Series, and the Newport Chamber Music Festival. He has championed new music by presenting adventuresome programming such as The Music of Frank Zappa, showcasing the music of Edgar Varese and Frank Zappa, under the auspices of Lincoln Center's Great Performers Series.Haas is the principal timpanist of the New York Chamber Orchestra, the Aspen Chamber Orchestra and EOS Ensemble, principal percussionist of the American Symphony Orchestra, and a member of the American Composers Orchestra. He performs with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, New York Pops, and New Jersey Symphony and has performed and recorded with the New York Philharmonic, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra and the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra.A graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, Haas received his Master's Degree from the Juilliard School as a student of Saul Goodman. An inspiring teacher, he has been the director of the Peabody Conservatory Percussion Studio for twenty years and a faculty artist of the Aspen Music School, and he conducts the percussion ensembles at both schools. He has presented master classes throughout the United States and internationally at the Toho Gauken, Hanoi Conservatory, Paris Conservatory, and the Graz Percussion School. Sharing his enthusiasm for music with young people, he has presented over two hundred concert-demonstrations with his "Drumfire" program, under the auspices of the Lincoln Center Institute, the New York Chamber Symphony's Sidney Wolff Children's Concert Series, and the Aspen Festival Young Person's Concert Series. As active an entrepreneur as he is an artist, Haas heads Sunset Records, Kettles and Company, and Gemini Music Productions which contracts musicians for Lincoln Center, New York Pops, and many other organizations. He also works closely with percussion industry manufacturers Pearl/Adams, Promark and Zildjian, among others.Clayton Craddock founded Broadway Drumming 101, an in-depth online platform offering specialized mentorship and a carefully curated collection of resources tailored for aspiring and professional musicians.Clayton's Broadway and Off-Broadway credits include tick, tick…BOOM!, Altar Boyz, Memphis The Musical, Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill, Ain't Too Proud – The Life and Times of The Temptations, Cats: The Jellicle Ball, and The Hippest Trip: The Soul Train Musical. Band It About - Proudly Supporting Live Music "Podcast Series"
Liam Weedall has been playing live and recording with bands since the age of 14 after picking up the sticks at age 11. He has played many different genres such as pop, rock, jazz, funk, punk, Latin, and big band, which have all had a profound influence on the way that he plays his main genre of choice: progressive metal/fusion. Liam's first band was 'The Peaves' (girl band), with his sister Gemma (on vocals) in 2005. During his mid-late teens, the most notable bands he was involved with were Sonic Euphoria and Asphyxia, the latter of which supported Whitechapel and Psycroptic as well as winning the award for “Best Youth Band” in the Australian Metal Awards in 2009. Liam was part of the Rostrevor College Big Band that took out 2nd place in the National School Band Competition ‘Generations in Jazz' in 2008. He was also selected by acclaimed brass player James Morrison as a Future Finalist for the James Morrison Scholarship in the same year. The following year he completed a Diploma in Jazz from the University of Adelaide. Liam joined Adelaide metal heavyweights ‘Double Dragon' in mid-late 2010 at the age of 19. Seeing as the band had played national tours with the likes of Slayer, Megadeth, Chimaira, and The Haunted, it was an easy decision to make. While with Double Dragon he played shows all around Australia including shows with Soilwork, Darkest Hour, Carnifex, and Tim Ripper Owens. The band released their sophomore album ‘Sons of Asena' on the 4th of December 2011 which received airplay on Triple J and was followed by extensive touring around Australia. Following the dissolution of Double Dragon in May 2012, Liam formed the band ‘Voros' with two of his band mates from Double Dragon. Since then, Voros has released 2 Eps and a full-length album. The band has toured around Australia several times and played with such notable bands as At the Gates, Napalm Death, Arcturus, Kataklysm, Entombed AD, Psycroptic, Be'lakor and King Parrot. 2016 saw the band tour Taiwan and China including Wake Up Festival in Taipei. In January 2015 Liam joined Adelaide progressive metal band Dyssidia, who have since played shows with international heavyweights Opeth, Trivium, Tesseract, Between the Buried and Me, Katatonia, Fallujah, The Ocean, as well as regular shows with Aussie veterans such as Caligula's Horse & Voyager. Dyssidia have now released 3 EPs and a full-length album "Costly Signals" and have toured Australia several times. Liam is currently playing live with Dyssidia, Voros, Alarum, Hadal Maw, James Norbert Ivanyi, and new funk rock trio Cliff Racer, as well as occasional gigs with various bands spanning multiple genres. Past jazz/cover band work has included playing with the Baker Boys Band, Party Club Band, Triplescore, Mr Goodnight, Bill Parton Trio, Chesterfield Brass, and Twisted J. He has been teaching drum lessons in Adelaide since 2008. Liam is proudly endorsing Gretsch Drums, EVANS drumheads, PROMARK by D'ADDARIO, Czarcie Kopyto Custom Drum Pedals from Poland, and Precision Kicks triggers from Melbourne. Music: "Band It About" theme song, written and recorded by Catherine Lambert & Michael Bryant. Outro "Arrival" which is track 5 on the 'Dyssidia' "Costly Signals" album. In this episode… Amazon FBA sellers that regularly source their inventory from overseas know the adverse effects that shipping delays and increased shipping costs can have on a business. They can lead to high unit costs, which may mean higher selling prices and, therefore, reduced sales. These are the challenges most US-based e-commerce sellers have been facing since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. For over a year, there have been shortages and delays in getting containers — and even when available, the shipping charges have more than tripled. In this episode of the Buy Box Experts podcast, James Thomson is joined by e-commerce sellers Sanjay Chandiram, Chuck Gregorich, and Rick Fung to discuss how shipping delays and increased shipping costs have impacted Amazon brands. The sellers talk about the changes they've made to reduce overall business costs, the lessons they've learned over the last year, and their thoughts on the future of the e-commerce market.

He is also the Founder and CEO of 3P Marketplace Solutions, a third-party marketplace retail company that helps apparel and footwear manufacturers achieve marketplace exposure and sales. Jerry has a BA in Finance & Marketing from the University of Washington's Michael G. Foster School of Business. In this episode… Over the last year, many e-commerce businesses in the US have experienced delays in products being shipped from Asia. This, in addition to an exponential increase in importation costs, has had a negative impact on their businesses, revenue, and brand reputation. So, what is causing these delays and high costs, and what can you do about it? According to Amazon experts Sanjay Chandiram, Chuck Gregorich, and Jerry Kavesh, the delays at the ports can be traced back to an increase in demand for products, a shortage of containers, and delayed customs clearance. As they say, the effects of these shipping issues have been felt not just by sellers but also by retail stores, buyers, and customers. Luckily, they have some tried-and-true strategies for working around these disruptions and making the most out of the current shipping situation. In this week's episode of the Buy Box Experts podcast, James Thomson is joined by Amazon experts Sanjay Chandiram, Chuck Gregorich, and Jerry Kavesh to talk about the shipping delays and high importation costs of products coming out of Asia. They discuss what has caused these disruptions, how they have affected business operations on Amazon, and the strategies sellers can take to ensure that their products get shipped on time. Stay tuned.

“Can you become a better person and simultaneously help your surroundings and improve other people’s lives? Then you got it all figured out! Now just keep doing that day in day out and enjoy it. That’s how you live a good life, I think.” Siros Vaziri is a Swedish drummer and entrepreneur. He is one of the very few who have managed to exist on social media and turn his online presence into a business within the drumming community. With a highly engaged audience on Instagram and Facebook, Siros has painstakingly ensured that he inspires his audience to find more productivity and personal growth in their lives. His original concept, “Fill Of The Day”, blew up gaining him a tremendous audience. This method of direct teaching was just the beginning of his journey of creating an online business. He then began creating a la carte products that contained lessons that pushed the level of quality up from his regular social media posts. Since then, he has been gigging, hosting drum camps at his studio, diving headfirst into physical fitness and nutrition, and most recently his newest endeavor “Daily Drum Bites” which is a subscription-based service. Siros never ceases to amaze me due to his dedication to his path. He is constantly evolving and showing us the power of proper social media management and entrepreneurship. For someone in their early twenties, Siros is a fantastic role model for all people in this community. He demonstrates that if we stick to something, over time a net positive result is possible. Siros endorses Tama, Meinl Cymbals, Evans and Promark. You Will Hear About…. Siros’ new subscription service “Daily Drum Bites” How people connect with online branding The reality of subscriber/follower counts vs paying customers and super fans Thoughts about why people place such a low value on online media Smartphone addiction and the benefits to disciplined usage and mono tasking Siros’ average screen time on his smartphone The virtues of social media and communicating with our audience Siros’ journey to healthier living through good nutrition and exercise The long-term virtues of investing in yourself even when it doesn’t give you a direct monetary return Why Should You Listen? This episode contains a lot of conversations that are often avoided in our community. I have been asked personally by aspiring content creators on how to start something like a podcast. Almost every single time the idea of monetization is brought into question. I always suggest to people that this is not the thing we need to aspire towards. Consider the early stages of content creating a free education rather than giving things away. Eventually, you will learn a lot about how this is done and perhaps an opportunity will come as a result. But most importantly you must LOVE what you are doing and treat it as a nice hobby in the beginning. Another part of this conversation that really bears tremendous value is the topic of mono-tasking within a world of smartphone addiction. It is true that many of us have an issue with ignoring our phones because they are always calling us. I personally feel that our quality of life becomes deeply affected by this addiction. There is nothing wrong with the phones themselves and in many cases, it is a tremendously powerful and helpful technology to make our lives more interesting and engaging. But we MUST maintain a sense of discipline of ourselves when it comes to this. Between these two topics alone, this podcast is something you really need to check out. “I feel pretty fearless because of all the crazy stuff I’ve done. But it’s also just trust and life is life and you kinda just go with the flow. And that is what makes life interesting ya know? If it’s predictable then I think you lose the now.” Paul Wertico is a performer, teacher, bandleader, and clinician. He is a seven time Grammy award winner, Readers Poll winner for Modern Drummer magazine and DRUM! Magazine, 2004 Chicago Tribune “2004 Chicagoan of the Year” among many other lifetime accolades. He is most famously known as Pat Metheny’s drummer for 18 years but should not be pigeon-holed into only that role. He is also a bandleader for his Paul Wertico Trio and improvisational trio Wertico, Cain, and Grey. He is highly experimental with his approach and the instruments he tends to use during his performances including bizarre cymbals, kitchen sinks, and other strange percussion instruments. Claiming that “music plays me”, Paul is a devout musician who lives for the moment of what music can bring. In this episode, we will hear about many of his deep philosophies on performing on the drums, how the human element of imperfection brings out the real beauty in art, how we can become more confident and rooted in what we as artists connect with, and much more! Paul endorses DW Drums, ProMark, Remo and Shure. You Will Hear About…. Paul’s adventures in Russia, Spain, Italy and China this summer. Paul’s high energy levels at the age of 66 even after recently needing surgery for two heart stints. He left for Spain three days later. The time Paul flew a Robin aircraft as a reward for getting a fan an extra Pat Metheny ticket. The grey areas in music and art that brings life and character to any given work. Letting the music play you. What a “front beat” is. How we as drummers can tap into what connects us to our playing confidently. Learning how to judge what your playing ACTUALLY sounds like while you play. Why Should You Listen? People should pay close attention to his philosophies about the relationship between life and the flow of it in particular. If there are musicians out there that have a lot of knowledge and understanding of vocabulary but feel like they aren’t allowing their creativity to flow out of them, you will find this episode particularly helpful. He also shares his perspectives on phrasing ideas with his coined term “front beat” and how that can bring forward a stronger sense of time and pulse within the music. Beyond that, Paul is simply a nice person to listen to. He is incredibly thoughtful, filled with great stories to enhance his perspectives, and is incredibly experienced with this art form. He has been featured on many podcasts in the past, so if this episode interests you, I would recommend checking out any other podcasts that he has been a guest on. An interview with Ben O'Brien Smith and Cody Rahn who host the new drum based YouTube channel, Sounds Like A Drum. Full article, and socials are below. Sounds Like A Drum Socials Instagram | Facebook | YouTube Cadence Independant Media Socials Instagram | Facebook | Website Ben’s Instagram | Cody’s Instagram DrumGAB’s Socials Instagram | Facebook | Website Ben O’Brien Smith and Cody Rahn are the hosts and developers of a new content channel called Sounds Like A Drum. Both of these dudes have extensive experience in the music industry. Ben is a former employee of D’Addario for 6.5 years and during his time at D’Addario, Ben was in charge of the social networks of both Evans drum heads and Promark drumsticks. He also was involved with product development, which includes many of the innovations that we are all familiar with today from Evans including the UV1, Black Chrome, and Level 360 technology. It is also important to note that besides the multimedia end of the industry, Ben is also a drummer with over twenty years experience and also studied classical percussion at Crane School of Music. However, in the role of Sounds Like A Drum, Ben is primarily assuming the role of content creator, brand developer, and social media strategist through his company Cadence Independent Media. Due to Ben’s extensive knowledge of drumhead technology he also hosts some of the content that is focused on these subjects. What Cody Rahn brings to the table is years of studio and live music performance experience where he has utilized his long-term obsession with tinkering with drums to find all of what they can offer him as a player. Cody presents incredibly informed methods in the Sounds Like A Drum YouTube series, and they tend to lean on more practical solutions, other than the whole "what you need to buy to get this to work" type of solution that finds its way into a lot of content usually. Together with Ben and Cody’s strengths, they have combined forces to create an incredibly insightful resource for the drumming community. With podcasts, normally a host says that their episode is jammed packed with the good stuff. Almost every podcaster is really trying to convince you that you should listen to the show for a multitude of reasons. Whether it is because there is tons of information, or it is inspirational, or it was a natural conversation...you get the point. So it is difficult for me to write down exactly what this episode is without coming off as canned but believe me when I say this....actually let's back up just a second. If you listened to Episode 77 with Tim Buell you will have a good idea of how this episode with Ben & Cody went. It is again, kind of a textbook style episode. There are stories and it is fun and all that, but there are some things said in this episode that are basically giveaways to the audience and it is coming from Ben & Cody's long-term and professional experience. I was so happy with how easygoing, comfortable, professional, and value-packed this episode was. You will learn about why the drum set's sound is so absolutely crucial. And it actually goes beyond just tuning methods, and drum head/drumstick, the drum kit, the cymbal selections, etc. Cody, in particular, gets into some detail about the sound of someone's playing. The sound is such an overall thing that is made up of many small components. The interpretations, the application of creativity, the execution of technique, the implication of time and feel, and of course every little piece of hardware, and of course the musical instruments that you selected to play. If a musician is thoughtful and caring about their sound and can also do everything else well that is required, you will be in good shape hopefully. So make sure you listen closely to this episode and take some mental notes.

Today's episode I speak with Cory Caruso, the drummer of Rusted Root. Rusted Root wasn't a band I was familiar with in the late 90's until, that is, a co-worker I once worked with turned me on them. As soon as I first listened to their album, I immediately fell in love with it and couldn't believe the harmonies and the sounds from the drums and percussion. My ears were having an outer-body experience. They're sound was so amazing. I listened to the CD several times before I could pick it apart and try to play to it. Well, today, I'm lucky enough to get Cory Caruso the drummer from Rusted Root on the show to talk drums and how you should never give up on your dreams. Cory is not only an amazing drummer, but, he is also an engineer. He attended Duquesne university where he honed his skills. His solid influence became his go-to when someone needed an amazing drummer. Here's a list of some of Cory's favorite things: Evans Real Fee Practice Pad Pro-Mark Drum Sticks If you don't already own any Rusted Root CD's you can pick one up here: Rusted Root CDs Be sure to watch Cory play with Rusted Root Live: Cory Live on Stage And stay in touch with Cory: Cory's Website Cory's Instagram Page Thanks for listening. Clutter is one of the single biggest reasons projects are so hard to get made in Hollywood. Every night, studio executives drag home a pile of scripts, 99% of which will end up in the reject bin. The way you decrease your script's chances of suffering the same fate is by doing your due diligence and not sending it out until it's at its absolute best. Unfortunately, too many writers, directors, and producers aren't skilled enough to know when that is. On Monday, September 20th, Paul Chitlik, The Rewrite Mentor, and author of "Rewrite" will appear on Inside Urban Hollywood to discuss how to know when your script is ready. Paul Chitlik has written for all the major networks and studios. He was story editor for "The New Twilight Zone," and staff writer for Showtime's "Brothers." He has written features for Rysher Entertainment, NuImage, Promark, and others. He received a WGA award nomination for his work on "The Twilight Zone," a GLAAD Media Award nomination, and won a Genesis Award for a Showtime movie. He has taught screenwriting at UCLA, Loyola Marymount University, and ESCAC, the film school of the University of Barcelona. He began teaching advanced residential workshops in 2008, in Cortona, Italy, and will lead workshops in Telluride, Colorado, and Spain in 2010.Listeners are welcome to call-in to ask questions at (646) 200-3290.
