Editors - Harry Yoon, ACE and Angela M. Catanzaro, ACE THUNDERBOLTS editors Harry Yoon and Angela M. Catanzaro each gained a whole new appreciation for production crews, having spent considerable time themselves cutting on-set and as a integral part of the process. Harry reflects on his previous working relationship with director Jake Schreier on Beef and how he came on board for THUNDERBOLTS.  Angela also shares her excitement about joining the MCU after working on the feature film Prey. The editors delve into the collaborative process and the importance of depicting mental health themes, and also touch on the critical balancing act of creating a film that feels both intimate and action-packed. The discussion includes the unique musical approach of involving the composers early in the production and the nuances of fine-tuning comedic timing in the edit. Directed by Jake Schreier from a screenplay by Eric Pearson and Joanna Calo, THUNDERBOLTS* is the 36th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  The story follows former black widow Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) as she carries out deadly operations for CIA director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). De Fontaine faces imminent impeachment for her work with O.X.E. Group, so she dispatches Yelena, John Walker, Ava Starr, and Taskmaster to a covert O.X.E. facility under the pretense of a special assignment. Once there, they find themselves ensnared in a death trap, uniting the unconventional team of antiheroes as they take on a dangerous mission that will force them to confront the darkest corners of their pasts. HARRY YOON, ACE THUNDERBOLTS* marks Harry's second stint in the MCU with the first being Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021).  Immediately prior to his work on that film, Harry was being lauded for his work with director Lee Isaac Chung on the Oscar®-nominated film, Minari (2020).  Harry's other work includes the films The Last Black Man in San Francisco (2019), First Man (2018) and Detroit (2017). [04:09] Metabolic Flexibility and Macronutrients Carbohydrates and fats are two of the four major fuels for the body and are often referred to as macronutrients. Many people struggle to process and burn carbs and fats efficiently, frequently favoring one fuel source over another. Metabolic inflexibility refers to the body's inability to process both carbs and fats effectively, whereas metabolic flexibility refers to the body's ability to burn both carbs and fats efficiently. The Met Flex Diet is a six-week program that teaches the body how to effectively burn both fuels by exposing it to carbs and fats and incorporating keto and carb-loading elements. According to scientific evidence, cyclical keto cycling (alternating between periods of ketosis and carbohydrate consumption) can help improve metabolic flexibility. [08:07] Intermittent Fasting: Achieving Metabolic Flexibility Intermittent fasting helps to shift the body into fat-burning mode. Fasting depletes the body of energy from food and glycogen, allowing it to use stored fat as an energy source. By depleting energy from food and glycogen, intermittent fasting attempts to use stored fat as an energy source. A simple approach for beginners or those new to fasting is to wait a few hours after waking up before eating the day's first meal. Sleeping is a form of fasting because no food is consumed during that time. Extending the fasting period after waking up allows for more fat-burning time. [15:04] How do Fasted Cardio Workouts Enhance Fat Burning Fasted cardio involves working out on an empty stomach, usually without eating before the workout and for about an hour afterwards. Fasted cardio may not be appropriate for everyone, so pay attention to your body's signals and adjust accordingly. With depleted stored glucose (glycogen) and no food energy available during a fast, the body relies on fats for energy during the workout. The energy demand during exercise is significantly increased, prompting the body to draw even more energy from fat stores to meet the increased energy requirements. [18:51] Balancing Sleep and Workouts for Fat Loss Sleep is necessary for metabolic flexibility, hormonal rhythms, and body restoration. For optimal health and weight management, it is critical to maintain good sleep hygiene and prioritize adequate sleep. Morning workouts are appealing because they provide the benefits of endorphin release and fewer distractions. However, if morning workouts interfere with your sleep, consider switching to an afternoon workout or finding alternative times that work best for your schedule. Eating a high-calorie meal before bedtime causes excess calories stored as fat. Avoiding late-night eating allows the body to draw energy from fat stores while sleeping. The body is more likely to use fat as an energy source overnight if there is a gap between eating and sleeping. [23:09] Metabolic Boosters: Protein and B12 Consumption Increased protein consumption can boost metabolism due to the increased work required by the body to digest protein. Although lean protein is preferred, plant-based proteins such as beans and legumes are also beneficial. Protein from natural food sources is more bioavailable than protein supplements, ensuring that the body can use a higher percentage of the protein. The difficulty of breaking down protein signals the body to increase metabolic activity. Adequate B12 levels promote optimal metabolism and health. Prioritizing natural, protein-rich foods and getting enough B12 can improve metabolic function and help you lose weight. [33:17] Focusing on Food-Based Nutrition The desire to obtain nutrients through food stems from the belief that natural nutrients are more bioavailable and safer for the body than synthetic products. Natural nutrients in their natural state contain additional beneficial compounds and a more complete nutrient package than whole foods. While some supplementation may be required, caution should be exercised due to the market's proclivity for over-supplementation. Before beginning any supplementation regimen, individuals should thoroughly read and comprehend product labels. AND MUCH MORE! NBC Universal Studio Exec. Shares How To Build Professional Relationships

The Debbie Nigro Show

Michael Swanson Sr. VP Production NBC Universal Studio Group, was just featured in the Forbes Magazine article called, ‘How To Build Your Network” by Maya Richard-Craven.   Michael who's a giver by nature, was called on for his expert advice. He shared that ‘helping other people is a great way to form long- term relationships”.  When it comes to creating professional relationships, Michael says, “Go out of your way to be of service with a genuine motive and an earnest heart”. “Then over time, someone may ask if there is anything you need."  Since 85% of jobs are filled through networking rather than traditional hiring, (yes, it's true), then Michael's advice should help lead you in the right direction to build your career.  Michael's own professional journey has been one of working his way up through hard work, and is filled with many accomplishments. Being of service to many along his jounrey has surely led to the many professional relationships he has come to enjoy. Besides being an Emmy Award winner, and a Hollywood TV studio executive, film producer and theatre producer, Michael is also a visionary entrepreneur and President and CEO of the entertainment company, Faith Filmworks.  At NBC Universal, he's the studio executive responsible for the production of Universal Television's Parks and Recreation, Hacks, The Good Place, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Good Girls, Never Have I Ever, Community and Master of None. And throughout his distinguished career in entertainment, Michael has produced movies to critical and audience acclaim including All About You, All About Us, For the Love of Ruth, To Hell and Back, Andraé Crouch: Making The Journey, Two Seasons, Notre Dame First Time Fans: Legacy, The Wayman Tisdale Story and Fannie. He's a guy many in the professional entertinament business aspire to meet, but if you do meet him, please don't ask if he has a card! Or a QR Code! LOL Michael said, " I find that a little off-putting. I think it's more important to really engage a person and get to know him or her, ask questions, but in a very genuine and authentic way as opposed to kind of bouncing around collecting information and calculating in your head what's the best way he or she can help boost my career or advance my career so I can climb the ladder. Frankly in my opinion it's just the opposite. How can we be of service to others? I find that when you are in service to others in a genuine way, with an authentic heart and no ulterior motives, but really just want to help and learn, then I think there comes an opportunity where that executive or that person can eventually reach back out to you and say, you know what, you're doing such a great job. Is there anything I can do for you? How can I help? And then it becomes a more authentic relationship and it can even perhaps turn into a long-term mentoring relationship. And I think that's the best way to navigate a career because it's a little bit more personal. It's not about just taking from someone but learning how to be of service to others." I'm personally aware that networking is challenging for people who don't have ‘connections or ‘experience' in their fields yet, but I always champion the idea of finding ways to meet the people you want to meet, especially in your desired industry, ‘in person'. I think ‘in person' matters for connecting genuinely with people. For getting them to ‘see' who you really are.  How do you think I got Michael Swanson on my show today right after Forbes got him? I had the good fortune to meet Michael ‘in person' when he was in NY from LA when The Temptations and The Four Tops performed at the Westbury Music Fair in Long Island NY. Michael, is involved with the Tony Award Winning Broadway smash hit musical ‘Ain't Too Proud: The Life and Times of The Temptations' and is also co-producing the upcoming Four Tops Musical, ‘I'll Be There' with my buddy Paul Lambert and Duke Fakir. Duke is the only surviving member of the group.   Michael is a beautiful human with a beautiful family. He serves on the board of directors for Wedgwood Circle, Notre Dame's Performing Arts Advisory Council, Success Through Education Program, FEAST and is a member of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. A South Side of Chicago native, Michael resides in Los Angeles with his wife of 29 years, filmmaker and screenwriter Christine Swanson, and their four children. Michael Swanson joined me live from LA on The Debbie Nigro Show to share much more of his warm advice about how to build your professional ‘relationships'.  Enjoy the podcast of our conversation.  If you prefer to read, the Audio Transcript is below. ************************************************************************  AUDIO TRANSCRIPT  0:00:00 And now, back to the Debbie Nigro Show! 2 0:00:24 Okay, life is all about relationships. Let me explain, okay? Actually, I'll let somebody else explain. Hi everybody, I'm Debbie Nigro. I am so excited to introduce you to my next guest. You know, I always say meeting people in person matters, right? I really do think it totally matters, especially in this virtual world we live in. I met Michael the night I went to see The Four Tops and also the Temptations at Westbury Music Fair in Long Island back when. It was a wildly fabulous night.  I met Michael and met his lovely son. What a gentleman. There was something very special about him and there's something very special about him that you guys are going to sense and find out about right now. Michael is a giver by nature. He's not only some big wig Hollywood TV studio executive and film producer and theater producer, which he is all those things, but he is a guy who's created relationships over time that have been really heartfelt and he's spending some time right now educating others on how to do it. Forbes just did a story on how to build a network of professional relationships. He was their first person. They went to interview him as an expert. What Michael said that really just needs to be shared because he's a giver by nature, I mentioned that, is that helping other people is a great way to form long-term relationships. So more about that, but first, welcome Michael and thanks for helping me out by coming on my show today. 1 0:02:10 Good morning, Debbie. It's so wonderful to be with you. Thanks for having me. 2 0:02:13 You're welcome. So you, being the first guy that Forbes called about relationships, probably took a moment, sat back and thought, wow, all my life's work has mattered because I know this matters to you. You have incredibly important advice to people about giving before taking. 1 0:02:31 Yes, yes. I think we are all called to be of service. One thing about networking and mentoring which Forbes wanted to focus on is how do you do it? What's the best way for someone who has had a long career and they wanted me to give advice and some tips. My whole thing is not about going to networking events and some of the less savvy networkers may their first question may become, Do you have a card? 2 0:03:01 Does anybody have a card anymore? 1 0:03:04 Yeah, I know, right? QR codes. Can I scan your QR codes? I found that a little off-putting. It's not about just taking from someone but learning how to be of service to others. 2 0:04:23 If somebody didn't know you and know that you are this heartfelt guy that you are and just saw your title, Hollywood TV studio executive, film producer, theater producer, and they were a young person trying to get into the business. They might be very intimidated by approaching a gentleman like yourself. You're giving some good advice, but how would you like someone to approach you if they were trying to get to know you? 1 0:04:48 My advice would be to simply be yourself. When I meet with a lot of especially recent college graduates or young professionals, that's my advice. There is only one you in this entire world who God has created. So be yourself because no one can be better at you being yourself than you. And then I find that you will relax, you will get centered, you can be yourself and communicate without trying to morph into someone else who you think you're supposed to be to move ahead. 2 0:05:21 Has anybody ever tried to impress you by doing something really out of the box to get your 6 0:05:26 attention? 4 0:05:29 Probably Debbie. But I don't know. 1 0:05:33 I can't think of anything right now. 2 0:05:36 I guess I'm thinking of something funny and I'll share it with you because you did you know one of the key points that was Made in the article and that you know I made Promoting your being on the show today It says that 85% of jobs are filled through networking rather than traditional hiring which is very loud It's a big number and what came to mind is you know a father Always tries to help a daughter or a son and my father God rest his soul He's dead 40 years now once went and repaved some guy's driveway and put in all new shrubs for a guy who wasn't in the TV business because he wanted to make sure he knew who I was by the time I called him. The guy woke up like, what? He didn't even know who I was. So I'm just saying that's funny but people do crazy things to try and get attention to create a relationship and that's the only reason I brought it up. But if in fact 85% right of all the jobs are filled through networking rather than traditional hiring. Like why do people even bother with these, you know, sending resumes into a virtual, you know, hole, a black hole? 1 0:06:36 Yeah, it can become very, rejection is hard for any of us, right? And so when you apply for a job, and even repeatedly sometimes, and you get that rejection or that disappointment, it can be deflating, it can be discouraging, it can even sometimes become depressing because it's like, I've done everything, what can I do? But I have hope in that 15%. You didn't say 100%, you said 85%. So stay positive, is my advice. Stay encouraged and keep submitting. Also, this is one thing that I like to say, which has been true in my life, God will take you to where He needs you to be when He needs you to be there. Sometimes we get rejections or we don't get that job or we don't get that meeting or we don't get that promotion. Sometimes perhaps it's for our own protection. We just may not know that. I'm a big believer, believe it or not, in failure. I think failure is your friend. The key is to learn from your failures, learn from your mistakes, learn from the setbacks, because all of those things are equipping you and preparing you for where you ultimately will end up. So it's not always a bad thing. You know, it's like adding tools to your toolbox that informs how you proceed. So life is hard, right? There are challenges, there are ups and downs, but stay encouraged is the advice that I always get. And importantly, you have to know that things take time. Things take time. Hang in there. Don't get discouraged. Most overnight successes are about ten years. It takes about ten years. 2 0:08:25 At least. Right? 9 0:08:27 I think I'm just peaking, Michael. 4 0:08:28 I love that. 8 0:08:29 That's okay because you know what, Debbie? 2 0:08:30 All of the experience and all of the knowledge and all of the things that you've learned 4 0:08:31 and now you've continued to hone your craft all of these years, it just makes you even 5 0:08:32 more prepared for where you are now. 7 0:08:33 Yes. 1 0:08:34 And have an even bigger platform. So I'm okay with that. I think we live in a microwave society now. Yep. And I think we live in a microwave society now. And I think we live in a microwave society now. And I think we live in a microwave society now. And I think we live in a microwave society now. And I think we live in a microwave society now. And I think we live in a microwave society now. And I think we live in a microwave society now. And I think we live in a microwave society now. 5 0:08:46 And I think we live in a microwave society now. 1 0:08:47 And I think we live in a microwave society now. But you're also the production executive on so many shows that we all love and know, Parks and Recreation, The Good Plays, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Master of None, Good Girls, Never Have I Ever, you've been out there in the movie world, Oh My Gosh, All About You, All About Us, For the Love of Ruth, it goes on, Broadway, Ain't Too Proud, The Life and Times of the Temptations, and then of course the upcoming Four Tops musical with Duke Fakir, the only living member producer and your co-producer. I'm excited to know you. I have to think that as you look back at your life and you are having this conversation with me about how important relationships are to going forward in a career, who is loud in your head right now that helped you along the way? Somebody that did something nice for you in your business? 1 0:10:02 Oh yeah, well you know so many people, Jerry D'Acanio, Clay Mattel, Adrian Backus, there are so many people who have impacted my life, my career. Mentors who I've had, Erwin McManus, pastors along the way like Charles Stanley. You don't always have to know. I know all those folks or know of them, but most of them I've had personal relationships with. But I also want to share, you don't have to know them personally. You can have a mentor or someone who can be very influential in your life or your career by reading his or her book, by listening to their podcast, their interviews, by kind of studying their business decisions, if they are entrepreneurs, kind of seeing what pivots they made when the landscape was changing. So you can learn from everyone, even if you've never met him or her along the way. Excellent. That has really impacted my career and my life as a husband, father, friend, executive and entrepreneur. 2 0:11:12 Excellent advice. And we do live in a world where there is an exorbitant amount of information for everybody to tap into free of charge if they have the energy and the desire, right? Absolutely. Let's talk about your family real quick. I know you have a beautiful wife you married to a long time who's also a great talent, Christine Swanson, and then you have four kids. This is a beautiful life you're living. And I've met one of your sons who was adorable. Which one was that? 1 0:11:35 That was Cole. That was our oldest son, Cole Swanson, who recently graduated from college and now he is doing his thing. He is also in the entertainment industry. He graduated from NYU Tisch School of the Art and focused on directing. So we have another filmmaker in the family. 2 0:11:50 Awesome. And the other kids, are they in the business? Are they coming up behind you? 1 0:11:55 I think they are, Debbie. You know, I have a rising sophomore at Stanford University who will probably major in filmmaking and business. I think he has a great producer's mind. My third son, Luke, that was Kenji who is at Stanford, my third son Luke recently completed the acting and theater workshop this summer at USC. Although he is a rising senior in high school, he wants to study acting and he would say be an on-screen actor to make it clear. I said, well you have to start in theater, that's where you really get your training. And then my daughter Julia is entering high school and she is just as smart as anyone. I think it would be great to have an entertainment attorney in the family, so who knows what her career path would be. But Christine, my wife, and I are blessed to have wonderful children. We've been married 29 years, about a week ago. I'm really grateful and just trying to raise some grounded children in Hollywood. 2 0:12:52 Wow, that is a huge accomplishment. So Michael Swanson, you're doing great. Thank you so much for being my guest today. I remembered your good energy when I met you in person. I knew that you would be accommodating and love to share your information about what you said in Forbes, which is how to build a network of professional relationships. Remember, helping other people is a great way to form long-term relationships. Go out of your way to be of service with a genuine motive and an earnest heart. Michael Swanson, NBCUniversal Senior VP of Production, you have a terrific day. Thank you, Debbie. 1 0:13:24 You too. Thanks for having me. 6 0:13:26 See you again soon, I hope. 2 0:13:27 Okay, real soon. 1 0:13:28 Bye-bye. 5 0:13:29 Bye-bye. Bye-bye.

Learning about new and improved ways to navigate archaic structures in our line of business is always very interesting. So, this week, I wanted to take you on a deep dive into blockchain entertainment financing- refined by entrepreneurs and producers Kim Jackson and Jake Craven of Breaker.io.Kim is a member of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, co-Owner of SingularDTV, and CEO of its umbrella company, Breaker Studios, where Jake also works as Vice President of Content Partnerships.Breaker, founded in 2017, is a leading blockchain development and services company in the Media & Entertainment industry. It provides an innovative, intuitive, and user-friendly end-to-end royalty management platform for independent creators and distributors. Simply put, it uses blockchain and cloud-based technology to enable creators to maximize their revenue by automating revenue collection, backend accounting, and royalty payments while ensuring transparent reporting. I discovered Breaker when I stumbled upon Alex Winter's award-winning feature-length documentary Trust Machine: The Story Of Blockchain produced by Kim. The film explains how Blockchain technology is already being used to change the world, fighting income inequality, the refugee crisis, and world hunger. If you are new to Blockchain or have felt overwhelmed by all the information Google threw at you in an attempt to learn the rudimentary theory of Blockchain and cryptocurrency, check out Vinay Gupta's 'A Brief History of Blockchain, Kim referenced during our chat.Breaker's concept is definitely the future of entertainment finance and, dare I say, global financial transacting. Being ahead of its time, Breaker is introducing products that allow for media revenue and royalty to be tracked via blockchain technology, which allows for an open-source network of data.Basically, Breaker provides a better model for instantaneous recording and eliminating mistrust, especially for independent companies that want to sustain a business and revenue model for themselves.I wish we had more time to continue the conversation because it was packed with filmtrepreneurial and blockchain knowledge bombs, and we could all do with the extra crash course. But I made sure to ask many important questions for you guys from today's experts. So, enjoy my conversation with Kim Jackson and Jake Craven.

An Impressionist Painter, An Inspired Madman, A Restless Innovator, A True Legend of Jazz Drums, A Master of Drumming Insanity, and a Genius of the Sticks. These are some of the words that describe Grammy Award-winning drummer Paul Wertico. Hailed in the press as “One of the most versatile and musical drummers in music today,” Paul Wertico was a member of the Pat Metheny Group from 1983 to 2001. During that time, he won seven Grammy Awards (three for Best Jazz Fusion Performance, three for Best Contemporary Jazz Performance, and one for Best Rock Instrumental Performance), won numerous magazine polls, received several gold records, and played drums & percussion on David Bowie's hit recording (with the Pat Metheny Group), “This Is Not America.” He has played with countless artists and has performed in all 50 states and over 60 countries. Paul has also played drums and percussion on hundreds of recordings, including Paul Winter's Grammy-nominated release, Earth: Voices of a Planet, and four vocalist Kurt Elling's Grammy-nominated releases. He also hosted his own weekly radio show, Paul Wertico's Wild World of Jazz, from 2010 to 2012. Paul is also extremely active in the field of education. In addition to teaching drums privately for over 45 years, Paul is an Associate Professor of Jazz Studies at Roosevelt University's Chicago College of Performing Arts. Before becoming a full-time faculty member at CCPA, he served on the wind & percussion faculty of Northwestern University for 16 years. For over four decades, he's conducted drum masterclasses, clinics, and workshops worldwide and has written educational articles for numerous magazines. He also serves on the Advisory Board and the Pro-Panel of Modern Drummer magazine, the Education Committee of the Jazz Institute of Chicago. In addition, he served five terms on the Board of Governors of The Recording Academy Chicago Chapter. In 2004, Paul was a Chicago Tribune“Chicagoan of the Year.” In 2010, the Cape Breton International Drum Festival honored him with a “Life Time Achievement Award” for his “Major Contribution To The World Of Drumming & Education.” That year, he was also a recipient of the Montréal Drum Fest's “Lifetime Achievement Award.” In addition, as Musical Director for the crowdsourced TV video series Inventing The Future, Paul was nominated for a 2012-2013 Emmy Award in the “Outstanding Achievement In Interactivity” category by The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Midwest Chapter. He's also the inventor of his signature product, TUBZ, made by Promark, who also makes the “Paul Wertico Signature Drum Stick.” Paul's recordings have all received great critical praise as a solo recording artist, and DownBeatmagazine listed Paul's CD, Impressions of a City, as one of its “Best CDs of 2010.” In addition, his DVD, Paul Wertico's Drum Philosophy, was named “One of the best drum videos of the last 25 years” by Modern Drummer magazine. LA Weekly even wrote, “His recent records, such as the 2000s Don't Be Scared Anymore and the new StereoNucleosis, are stunning examples of the electronic, rhythmic and intellectual directions jazz could be going."   Chiqui Cartagena: The Public Policy Implications of Hispanic Marketing (Ep. 164) Chiqui Cartagena joined Joe Miller to discuss the public policy implications of Hispanic marketing amidst an increased demand for Latino data. Bio Chiqui Cartagena (@ChiquiCartagena) is the author of Latino Boom II and most recently served as senior vice president of the Political & Advocacy Group at Univision Communications Inc., the leading media company serving Hispanic America. At Univision, she was responsible for increasing the understanding of the importance of Hispanic voter and the key political issues that affect them among key political constituents across the country. In 2014, Ms. Cartagena was named one of Campaigns & Elections "50 Influencers". In 2013, she was recognized with a Multiethnic TV Leadership Award from Broadcasting & Cable magazine and in 2012, Cartagena received the ADCOLOR® Legend Award in recognition of her tireless efforts in leading the conversation about the Hispanic market. In 2007, she was named the Hispanic Direct Marketing Professional of the Year by the Direct Marketing Association. And finally, she is the author of Latino Boom II, Catch the Biggest Wave Since the Baby Boom, her second book on the Hispanic market which was published in 2013. Ms. Cartagena, a graduate of the University of Miami, is a member of the Awards Committee for National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and lives in New York City. Resources Latino Boom Nielsen LatinX The Next 100 Years: A Forecast for the 21st Century by George Friedman News Roundup Can Facebook overcome its woes with Zuckerberg and Sandberg still leading the company? Facebook, which has lost about $100 billion in market value since March, can’t seem to right itself after a year of the Cambridge Analytica and election interference debacle. The UK Parliament got hold of senior level communications from a company in the U.S. called Six4Thirty which is suing Facebook. Six4Thirty, whose core business model was scanning Facebook data for bikini photos, obtained the communications in the discovery process in an attempt to establish that Facebook knew about the loophole it used to obtain Facebook’s users data, which was allegedly the same loophole that Cambridge Analytica used. Some of the communications are said to be from Mark Zuckerberg himself. So normally, the communications would be shielded from disclosure as the matter is being litigated. But it just so happens that Damian Collins, the Chair of the Parliament’s Culture, Media and Sports select committee, caught wind of the fact that one of Six4Thirty’s founders was in London—bringing the company within the UK’s jurisdiction. So that enabled Collins to seize the documents by sending a Serjeant at Arms to the founder’s hotel room and requiring him to turn over the documents within 2 hours or face a fine or potential jail time. So there’s that. And as far as Facebook’s hiring of a lobbying firm that allegedly worked to play into anti-Semitism against George Soros, Facebook’s head of public policy Elliot Schrage announced in an internal memo that he was responsible for hiring the firm. However, he said that it was never his intention to play into anti-semitism. Facebook COO Cheryl Sandberg weighed in in a comment, saying that she was ultimately responsible. Schrage has been planning to leave the company for some time, and he will be replaced by former UK Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg. Calls by some shareholders and others for Mark Zuckerberg and Cheryl Sandberg to step down from at least some of their responsibilities has fallen on deaf ears. As Zuckerberg said in a CBS Business Interview that, while he apologized for the company’s woes, said that stepping down or replacing Sandberg is “not the plan”. Can Amazon be humbled by pushback from its workforce? Amazon has huge, global aspirations. But will the company go as far as it needs to in order to resolve internal labor disputes? In the U.S., Amazon raised its minimum wage to $15 per hour but eliminated other perks, including employee benefits. But on Black Friday, thousands of European workers went on strike, demanding better pay and working conditions. All of this is happening amidst Amazon’s aggressive expansion efforts beyond ecommerce. For example, the company is bidding for 21st Century Fox’s 22 Regional Sports assets—including YES TV which broadcasts the New York Yankees. The Wall Street Journal also reports that Amazon is now the Number 3 digital advertising platform, behind just Google and Facebook, with ad sales growth projected to be at over 400% between 2017 and 2020, way ahead of second-place Tencent in China whose ad sales growth is projected to be at just under 200%. Roger Stone crony Jerome Corsi says he won’t take FBI plea deal Conspiracy theorist and Roger Stone ally Jermone Corsi told CNN that Robert Mueller offered him a plea deal on one count of perjury connected with statements Corsi made saying that he had no communication with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. Trump confidante Stone himself said that he’d never had direct communication with Assange either, saying that he got all of his info through a backchannel alleged to be New York radio personality Randy Credico, which Credico has denied. Russian hacking is resurgence American officials and security firms are reporting that Russian hacking efforts are on an uptick following the U.S. midterm elections. The hackers are apparently trying to test the waters with the new Congress coming in. But experts are concerned that we won’t know the full scale of the hackers’ capabilities until the 2020 presidential election. Is China’s TikTok the next big video karaoke app? Axios has a report on the growth of TikTok, which has seen impressive user growth over the last year. The platform is now up to 7.2 million monthly users. It’s now ranked in the Top 5 U.S. apps in both Google Play and  the iOS app store and its global monthly usage comes in around 130 million. So some are asking how big TikTok can become in the U.S. NASA lands on Mars again For the 8th time, NASA has landed on Mars. “The mind is a fertile garden – it will grow anything you wish to plant – beautiful flowers or weeds. And it is with successful, healthy thoughts or negative ones that will, like weeds, strangle and crowd the others. Do not allow negative thoughts to enter your mind, for they are the weeds that strangle confidence.” Bruce Lee had a really strong practice of planting seeds of beautiful flowers in the fertile mind. Often we have people come into the office to look through Bruce’s journals and they wonder where his writings on his doubts and struggles are, and Shannon tells them that these don’t exist. Bruce had a regimented practice of keeping his mind on the things that he wanted instead of the things he didn’t. Bruce would turn anything that did not feel like success into a learning moment, converting it into something that would lead towards success. He would keep focused on the things that he wanted saying: “You will never get anymore out of life that you expect.” Optimism takes effort, it is a practice, especially in the face of difficulties. “If you think a thing is impossible, you’ll make it impossible. Pessimism blunts the tools you need to succeed.” If you’re constantly worrying about all the possible bad scenarios, it takes you out of the moment. These “what if” scenarios might never happen, but they can distract and worry us. “Suffering is mostly self-manufactured.” “Suffering itself does less to afflict the senses than the anticipation of suffering.“ The mind is neutral but it will grow anything you plant, including negative or positive thoughts. “One who is possessed by worry not only lacks the poise to solve his own problems, but by his nervousness and irritability creates additional problems for himself and those around him.” Every time we retell our problem stories to others, we are putting that negativity on that person too. “Defeat is a state of mind; no one is ever defeated until defeat has been accepted as a reality.” “Every man is what he is because of the dominating thoughts which he permits to occupy his mind.” Take Action: Become aware of your negative thoughts. Know what they are, think about any place in your life where you are struggling. Take anything you are having negative thoughts about and make a list on a piece of paper. Then on the other side of the paper take the time to write the negative thoughts as positive ones. Example: Change “I don’t have enough money” to “I am in the process of finding a way to make more money.” You can return to this list to affirm what you want. #AAHA This week our #AAHA shout-out goes to Chinese American Steven Ho, martial artist, stunt coordinator, stuntman, director, writer, co-founder of interior design firm, and member of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. He has followed his passions with a positive attitude, and he came to prominence in martial arts as one of the first martial arts tricksters in open martial art competitions. He is well regarded for his stunt work as Donatello in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He and his wife founded Plush home, a successful interior and furniture design firm. Steven, we admire your positive, Bruce-like energy, and we want to say you’re awesome! #BruceLeeMoment This week we our moment is from listener Anthony S.: “I've recently graduated college at the untraditional age of 28 and sometimes it's difficult to stay motivated, often feeling like "my time is running out" I have many ambitions and I only seem to get to the "dream phase" of what my life could be. These messages you share give me hope in a way to say to myself "it's never too late," and I am grateful for that…I firmly believe if I engrain or instill your father's message over and over my subconscious will take over and I will follow my own path to happiness and peace of mind.” Share your #AAHAs, #BruceLeeMoments, and #TakeAction progress with us at hello@brucelee.com Find the full version of our show notes at BruceLee.com/podcast

"Punch fear in the face. Fear is the only thing that keeps people from trying. If you don't try, you'll never know." "Love doesn't pay the bills." About: Ceci Johnson- Founder of Ceci New York Ceci Johnson’s story started with an invitation she created for a coworker’s wedding combined with the realization that a truly customized graphic design experience in wedding invitations was not available at that time. Armed with a clear desire to create the best invitations in the world, she started her business out of a shared office space NYC. Ten years later, her love of paper, design and innovation still drives her to create beautiful and completely original pieces every day. Ceci was named “Woman to Watch” by Tory Burch, “Invitation Innovator” by WeTV and garnered Modern Bride magazine’s trendsetter award and New York magazine’s prestigious Expert Stationer award. Her designs and expertise have appeared in the New York Times, USA Today, InStyle, W Magazine, Town & Country and on the Today Show, VH1 and Gossip Girl among many others. Notable clients include the President of the United States, International Royalty, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Sarah Jessica Parker, Katherine Heigl, Dylan Lauren, Rosie O’Donnell, the Empire State Building, Cole Haan, Hugo Boss and the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Overview: Ceci is a graphic designer that was born with the entrepreneurial gene. After seeing the need for custom wedding invitations 16 years ago, Ceci paved the way and eventually started Ceci New York- a luxury invitation and corporate design company. During this interview, Ceci shares what it took for her to start her own company, and also offers great advice on how to stand behind your brand with clients. Click to Tweet: Ep 193: Highlights: Background: Ceci obtained a degree in graphic design and got her first job working as a the designer for the bridal registry for large department stores. She then had a co-worker ask her to design a wedding invitation for her, which ignited the spark. From there she moved to New York City and joined the corporate world doing web design, but missed paper design. She went to the CEO of the corporation she was working for and asked if she'd let her design her wedding invitations. It was all downhill from that point on, and before Ceci knew it, she was meeting with referral after referral. Six months into launching her website, Ceci received the trendsetter award from Modern Bride Magazine. Ceci spent a lot of time working long days to get her name out there, she knocked on a lot of doors in her industry to showcase her portfolio, and was constantly revamping her site. What is Ceci New York: Ceci launched Ceci New York in 2004 without any investors and completely on her own. It's a luxury brand that designs invitations for any event from weddings to non-profit organizations. (From website)- "Our design atelier is driven by a groundbreaking concept that unites the custom and service of couture with the tactile elements of stationery and branding, creating a new niche in the design industry for visual styling. We strive to create a superior experience for each client, offering an incomparable range of couture services and outstanding ready-to-order products that boast flawless craftsmanship and the utmost attention to detail. From one-of-a-kind bespoke designs to original ready-to-order that discreetly bears Ceci’s signature, our creations possess a coveted commissioned quality that lends to the magic we invent. Ceci’s signature is the hallmark of authenticity and never-before-seen originality, ensuring that you receive a true work of art." About Ceci New York: The company currently has 20 employees that all work at the main showroom in New York City. Ceci says if you want to grow your company, you need employees. And with that, you have to learn how to let go of having control over everything to be successful. However, she is a very hands-on CEO that enjoys being a part of the design process and leading the way with her vision of the company. Their main target audience started out as brides and weddings in general, but now they help anyone who is looking to elevate their events through design. Goal: Eventually, Ceci would love to be a part of different markets and use her designs for bedding, phone cases, jewelry, etc. Work-Life Balance: Ceci is the proud mother of a little boy and feels that having him in her life has really helped her prioritize her time at work. She strives to stay focused and be effective while working so that she can spend the time she'd like with her son. Challenges: Ceci shares that it can be difficult to deal with certain clients and stick up for what you know needs to be done in order to accomplish their project. There have also been times when Ceci has been afraid to tell her clients what the prices were for their order. However, she realized that when she confidently explained to her clients the extent of work that goes into their project, they appreciate her time and effort. Advice for Entrepreneurs: When reaching out to others, show them how invested you are in their company and how you can solve potential problems. When creating a sales plan, look at how much you want to make on an annual basis and break it down by month, then by project or amount. It's important to educate your audience and pave the way for what you're offering. Lastly, stand behind your work.       Subscribe to the Outlier Newsletter: Click Here Connect With Ceci: CeciNewYork.com | CeciStyle.com | @CeciNewYork | Instagram | Facebook |Pinterest If you enjoy Outlier On Air, please Subscribe & Review on iTunes or Stitcher Sponsor: Flitch Creative Build your brand identity with Flitch Creative's eXpress Packages.
