What does it look like to take a neuroscience degree far beyond the lab? In this episode, we explore a career path that crosses scientific research, government regulation, and biotech entrepreneurship with Dr. Amanda Wiggins, CEO of The cGP Lab. Amanda began her career investigating neurodegeneration and cortical spreading depression. Over time, her passion for real-world impact led her into public policy—where she helped shape New Zealand's Human Tissue Act and advised on regulations for stem cell research and genetic technologies. Today, she leads a company advancing neuroprotective health supplements based on cyclic Glycine-Proline (cGP), a molecule with growing potential in aging and cognitive health. We talk about: How to navigate transitions between academia, government, and business The challenges of working across disciplines—and how to build confidence in new spaces Lessons learned from leading regulatory change and scaling innovation Amanda's work at The cGP Lab and the science behind cGP's potential in brain health Advice for scientists who want to move into leadership, entrepreneurship, or public engagement This conversation is for anyone considering a non-linear career in neuroscience or wondering how to apply scientific training in new and meaningful ways. Hey lady! This week Terri and Dr. Dom pump up the volume and encourage you to do the same as you listen to the fun and inspiring wisdom from Dr. Arlene Gordon-Hollingsworth, co-founder of the uber popular Gracie's Corner, a show dedicated to showing Black kids that learning is fun and something they can be excited about!Arlene and her husband Javoris were inspired to create the energetic, engaging kids YouTube show during the pandemic. They noticed that while they searched for educational programs for their toddler and infant they also needed a form of edutainment for their eldest daughter Gracelyn, the muse and voice actress for her eponymous show. One day Javoris turned to Arlene and let her know he noticed the lack of representation in those shows and wanted to do something about and thus Gracie's Corner was born! The two parents didn't have a huge team or financial backing to get the show off the ground. They just had a deep belief in their mission and desire to figure it out with the tools at their disposal. The dynamic husband and wife team credit the bulk of their success to keeping a focus on the family and maintaining their authenticity. And, supporters have noticed! They've attracted a loyal fanbase that tune into the show in the billions of views. Yes, you read that right, Gracie's Corner has more than a billion views. Thanks to superstar contributors like Snoop, Big Freedia, Charlie Wilson, and Paul Wall the show keeps a fresh perspective on education and entertainment. So, if you have a little person in your life and looking for ways to turn screen time into enjoyable enrichment time, tune in to this week's episode and find the groove that will keep you and your loved one uplifted and singing along with Gracie! Quote of the Day:"Don't you know that you are special?"– Gracie's Corner  Goal Map Like a Pro WorkbookCultivating H.E.R. This book is one that I know I will be recommending to many people. As I  continue to read Jon Gordon's latest book, “The 7 Commitments of a Great Team”, the lessons that are available for all of us remind me that I need to simply just work on getting better every single day. I hope, since you are listening to this podcast and probably others, that you want to keep improving too.  In this final part 5 of 5 Ways to Stay Positive, this one is titled “Talk to yourself. Don't listen to yourself.” Remember there is the acronym of LIGHT for these 5 steps and this is the final one, the “T”.  This is one of my favorites because I need this reminder every single day!  Instead of letting my own negative & self-defeating voice direct my day, I need to talk to myself and be my own biggest encourager & cheerleader!!  Since we are the thoughts that we think & believe, we might as well be thinking and believing our best!!  I can't believe the negative ones, I need to connect with & live out the positive ones. Nobody is going to do this for me, I need to speak these into existence into my own life.  Love these reminders of these 5 lessons.  Thanks for listening.  Please take a few moments to subscribe & share this with someone, also leave a 5 Star rating on Apple Podcasts and ITunes or other services where you find this show.  Find me on Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/coachtoexpectsuccess/   on Twitter / “X”:  @coachtosuccess   and on Instagram at:  @coachjohndaly  - My YouTube Channel is at: Coach John Daly.   Email me at: CoachJohnDalyPodcast@gmail.com     You can also head on over to https://www.coachtoexpectsuccess.com/ and get in touch with me there on my homepage along with checking out my Top Book list too.  Other things there on my site are being worked on too.  Please let me know that you are reaching out to me from my podcast.

Summary In this episode, Andy interviews Dave Garrison, author of The Buy-In Advantage: Why Employees Stop Caring and How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Give Their All. We've all faced moments where our team seems checked out or disengaged. But what if the real issue is that they don't feel invited to care? Dave challenges conventional approaches to engagement and offers practical, actionable strategies for fostering true buy-in. In this conversation, Dave shares the difference between engagement and buy-in, how traditional methods like bribing or badgering can backfire, and how leaders can use curiosity, clarity, and inclusive decision-making to fuel commitment. You'll learn how to better structure meetings, make feedback more meaningful, and identify red flags that indicate declining motivation. If you're leading teams and looking to create cultures where people don't just show up but they fully buy in, this episode is for you! Sound Bites “It's not about satisfaction. It's about whether people are bringing their head, heart, and gut to work.” “Leaders go last all the time. Except when it comes to vulnerability. Caroline Livesey is an adventurer, extreme triathlete, ultracyclist, elite gravel cyclist and triathlon and life coach.  Caroline started her journey into triathlon while serving with the Royal Engineers in the British Army. After 10 years service she left as a Major in 2013 and pursued a career as a professional triathlete (while working full time as a geotechnical design consultant), originally in Ironman events.  In 2019 circumstances conspired to throw her into her first extreme triathlon, Canadaman XTRI. Winning this event was the catalyst for her to work on her mindset and physical adaptations to take on the gruelling climate conditions which are typical for the Extreme Triathlons such as Norseman and Celtman. She has since won numerous extreme events, and has just returned from winning Patagonman in Chile for the second time.  Caroline is also an elite gravel cyclist, competing for Team GB at the last two World Championships (where she thinks she was the oldest on the start line by some 20 years). She loves single day UCI gravel races but also ultra distance, and has competed at Badlands (3rd), finished Transcordilleras (Colombia), and completed coast-to-coast across Costa Rica in less than two days. She completed the 1000km Transcordilleras, an 8-day stage race, in February this year. Caroline's husband Mark is a documentary / film maker and they make films about their adventures (YouTube, Amazon Prime - The Brick Session). Their purpose is to provide information and inspiration to others so that they might break down their own false beliefs to take on their own challenges.  Caroline and Mark have founded Peak Education Nepal - a charity bringing education to the children of poor families in Nepal who cannot afford to go to school. They became involved in this while in Nepal for an event in 2022, and plan to go back this year to develop the charity and do another mountain trail running adventure.   New episodes of the Tough Girl Podcast drop every Tuesday at 7 AM (UK time)! Make sure to subscribe so you never miss the inspiring journeys and incredible stories of tough women pushing boundaries.  Do you want to support the Tough Girl Mission to increase the amount of female role models in the media in the world of adventure and physical challenges? Support via Patreon! This book is a good one. As I  continue to read Jon Gordon's latest book, “The 7 Commitments of a Great Team”, the lessons that are available for all of us are powerful and life-changing.  In part 4 of 5 Ways to Stay Positive, this one is titled “Have Faith.” Remember there is the acronym of LIGHT for these 5 steps and this one is the “H”.  When it comes down to it, Faith helps us to connect with the idea that things are going to get better. Of course we need to understand that challenges will come along in life.. Many of them of course… but we also need to understand (and believe) that we will overcome them.  Love this line from the book - “Trust that struggle leads to strength and setbacks lead to comebacks.” This is something that I need to work on for sure. John O'Leary (https://johnolearyinspires.com/) says it all the time, that we should believe that “the best is yet to come.”   Thanks for listening.

In this episode of the RPGBOT.Podcast the team learns how to build a Warhammer character that's equal parts tragic backstory, terrible life choices, and statistically improbable survival! Want to roll dice in a Greek villa, vanquish monsters in the shadow of the Acropolis, or experience horror, myth, and mayhem online or in-person? Book your next legendary session with Dungeon Master Adamantine at www.dungeonmasteradamantine.com or find him at startplaying.games/gm/dmadamantine. You bring the characters—he'll bring the chaos. In this episode, the hosts brave the stormy chaos of Michigan weather and minor audio goblins to dive deep into Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay character creation. From choosing your species to deciding whether your character is motivated by vengeance, coin, or the sweet smell of Middenheim sausage, the gang walks through every gritty, grimdark, and occasionally hilarious step of crafting a Warhammer persona. Whether you're rolling a rat catcher with dreams of knighthood or a noble elf who is definitely not judging the humans, this episode is your roadmap to making a character that lives, breathes, and probably dies violently in the Old World. What We Talked About (Between Coughs and Cackles) Michigan Weather Attacks Again: A brief detour into real-life weather horror before we get into fantasy horror. Species Selection – AKA “So You Want to Be a Goblin?” Humans get all the talents (and none of the respect). Dwarves are magically allergic. Species choice directly affects talents, skills, and your odds of surviving past session one. Attributes and Talents: Why it matters if your character is strong, smart, or just very good at gossip. Random rolls can turn a future hero into a chaotic gremlin with a heart of gold (or just halitosis). Skills: Basic vs. Advanced (and How to Not Die by Failing a Perception Check): Not all skills are created equal, and sometimes “Swim” really matters. Advancing your character's skills is key to surviving rats, cultists, and angry cows. Careers and Equipment: Your career defines your gear, your class skills, and whether you start with a sword or a dead ferret. Equipment makes a big difference—especially when one character has armor and another has… hope. Backstory, Motivation, and Ambition: Motivation adds depth. Like onions. Or ogres. Ambitions can be personal, professional, or deeply petty. XP bonuses reward you for actually having character goals, so “revenge on Barry the Baker” might just be worth it. Names, Physical Traits, and Psychological Flavor: A name can reveal your culture… or just make the DM sigh. Physical and psychological quirks bring your character to life—or at least make them memorable when they die. Party Dynamics and Relationships: What happens when your elf hates your dwarf and your priest keeps judging everyone? Exploring how party tensions, bromances, and grudges make the game world richer (and weirder). The Final Ingredient: Humor and Collaboration: Why character creation should be as fun as the game itself. You don't build a hero alone—you do it with friends, dice, and questionable life choices. Key Takeaways Species isn't just fluff—it shapes your whole character experience. Skills are life. Pick wisely, and don't forget “Perception” exists. Talents can turn a bland character into a legendary weirdo. Backstory + motivation = juicy roleplay and extra XP. Random rolls aren't a curse—they're an opportunity to improvise hilariously. Psychological traits help characters feel real (and often unstable). Your party is your story's emotional core—and chaotic powder keg. Character creation is where the game really begins. Embrace the madness. Be strategic. Be creative. Be weird. It's Warhammer, after all. Listen if You've Ever Wondered… How to build a character that could actually survive in the Warhammer universe. What to do when you accidentally roll “terrified of the color red.” Why “pet rat” is both an equipment choice and a career path. If being a barber-surgeon really counts as a heroic class. Big trouble in little old Gladdy over the weekend. The boys are back, Bandit is fresh off a swing and tells us all about it, including all the highs and lows. We talk about old school game shows that used to be on Aussie telly and run through a nice Roast Lamb we cooked over the weekend, plus our plan to set the tone and bring back the Big Brekky. PLENTY to cover in the News, including the local Gladstone mall incident and even us making the shit town power rankings this week. We cover a little bit of Motivation before hitting off with a new segment to top it off, the Poo's Reviews: all things covering the dirty ol' box of stick books sitting in the studio. Was great to sit down as a team and cover what's been happening and some future plans over the next couple of weeks. Enjoy legends!Got a yarn? Send us a text Dr. Holly Catterton Allen reveals that spirituality is crucial to childhood resilience. She explains that children are born as spiritual beings with an inherent capacity for deep relationships with self, others, and God. She challenges traditional approaches to children's faith formation by emphasizing contemplative practices and "wondering questions" instead of formulaic answers.• Children are born spiritual beings, not just physical, emotional, and intellectual ones.• Spirituality encompasses three essential relationships: with self, others, and God.• Research shows spirituality ranks as a key protective factor in childhood resilience.• Creating space for questions without immediate answers builds authentic spiritual growth.• Simple practices like asking "Who are you in the story?" can open meaningful spiritual conversations.• Children don't need all protective factors to be resilient if they have a meaningful connection to God.• Knowing God as present, understanding, and healing provides "the most powerful resilience armor."Try asking the children in your life open-ended "wondering questions" this week, and see how it enriches your conversations and deepens your connections.Visit Dr. Holly Catterton Allen here: InterGenerate ConferenceOrder "Forming Resilient Children."Support the showBegin Your Heartlifter's Journey: Visit and subscribe to Heartlift Central on Substack. As I gladly continue to read Jon Gordon's latest book, “The 7 Commitments of a Great Team”, I am fired up about continuing to gather so many life lessons. In part 3 of 5 Ways to Stay Positive, this one is titled “Get To.” Remember there is the acronym of LIGHT for these 5 steps and this one is the “G”.  This one is right to my heart as Jon reminds us about when we find ourselves complaining - which I still need to work on - we need to remind ourselves that we “get to” do things in our miracle of life, instead of “having to do” them.  When we are able to focus on Gratitude, we can move from being selfish, frustrated, and stressed to more of an attitude of gratitude, appreciation and abundance.  I love this reminder: “Research shows that you can't be stressed and thankful at the same time. If you are feeling grateful, you won't feel stressed.”  He is 100% on target. I just need to do it a bit more often, every day!! I am working on it so it becomes more of a habit.

Actually, it's necessary. If you've ever downplayed your success, brushed off compliments, or felt awkward about sharing your win, then this one's for you. I share how societal conditioning (and a few saboteurs like the Judge and Pleaser) can mute your confidence and keep you from acknowledging the amazing things you've done. Come on! We want to know! We'll explore the difference between self-assuredness and ego, and why authentic self-celebration is a service. One that is not just to yourself, but to those watching you lead. You'll get practical tools like how to keep an achievement journal, build a “brag buddy” system, and start owning your growth without second-guessing it. If you're ready to replace perfectionism with self-respect and finally embrace the power of your own story, listen in.

My guest is Michael Easter, a professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and best-selling author. We discuss how particular daily life choices undermine our level of joy, our sense of purpose, our physical and our mental health and the daily, weekly, monthly and yearly steps we can all take to vastly increase our level of motivation, gratitude and overall life satisfaction. We discuss how effortful foraging for information, undistracted reflection and physical exercise are ways to ‘invest' and therefore grow our levels of dopamine, energy and motivation, whereas low-friction activities are specifically designed to hijack or diminish them. We also discuss dopamine reward circuitry in the context of how to build and reset one's energy levels and create a deeper sense of purpose in work, creative pursuits and relationships.
