Henson has never been afraid to say exactly who she is, a quality she's carrying into her Broadway debut in Joe Turner's Come and Gone. In this conversation from September 2024, Henson joins Hoda to talk about the power of using her voice, taking care of her mental health, and fighting for what she deserves after years of overcoming doubt and dismissal. There are employees who are motivated, and those who aren't - employees who care, and those who don't. Usually, business owners leave the motivated employees alone since they're not a problem. And they spend a lot of their time and energy on the unmotivated ones, trying to get them to care. But no matter what you do, trying to inspire your employees to care more, work harder, and perform better doesn't work. Either they already want to win, or they don't.

In this episode, I talk about how to get super fit without going to the gym—and how it doesn’t take much time, equipment, or even budget to get started. I share how a simple morning routine—even just five minutes to get the blood flowing and shake the cobwebs out—can become a powerful daily habit, and how I originally built this to “elevate the platform” after dealing with nagging injuries from that weekend warrior approach. I also break down what I call micro workouts—short bursts of movement to break up long periods of stillness, which can start to impact your metabolism in as little as 20 minutes—and why I consider this one of the biggest breakthroughs in fitness. And finally, I explain why you still “have to hit it hard” with brief, high-intensity efforts to preserve muscle and cardiovascular health—but without the overly stressful, time-consuming routines most people default to. The goal isn’t to grind yourself down—it’s to challenge your body, then stop. These are simple strategies you can start today to increase energy, avoid breakdown, and age gracefully from the comfort of your own home. “Send Coach John a message”I started my day like I always do, looking for inspiration and lessons to learn from. I found this one from Damon West (@damonwest7), the co-author of the wonderful & powerful book, “The Coffee Bean.” (it's one you should make sure to check out). Most people let the day decide how they show up. The difference is choosing it before anything else does. That's where consistency and real leadership start.” This was a reminder for me to try and make the right choice, at the start of my day - each and every day! The post shared was this: “Start your day with one question: how am I going to show up today? For myself and for others. Because your attitude, your effort, and your presence will shape every room you walk into.” A question I need to ask myself, and looking back is a bit easier since things have already happened - Is on my “good” days, why were they good? Also on my “bad” days, why were they bad? I am betting that the start to each of those days had something to do with it. I am thinking that if each of us made a bit more of a conscious effort to start our days out thinking about how do we want to show up today? This goes for the person looking back at ourselves in the mirror, to all the different people that we come into contact with every day - especially our loved ones. Awesome reminder by an awesome difference maker. Thanks Damon!! Thanks for listening. This episode of Fishing Without Bait concludes our powerful conversation with Jessie Notarius, known in the wrestling world as The Unwilting Tatiana. Jessie opens up about the realities behind her wrestling journey—what it truly takes to pursue a passion while navigating injuries, setbacks, and the emotional toll that comes with them. She shares her experience with a recent wrist fracture, the frustration of repeated injuries, and the importance of patience and proper healing. Beyond wrestling, Jessie explores her creative side through painting and artistic expression, revealing how creativity plays a role in her personal growth and recovery. She also reflects on mentorship, resilience, and the courage it takes to keep going—even when giving up feels easier.
There's a difference between looking strong… and actually being resilient. In this conversation, I sat down with Kris Gethin—someone who has spent decades pushing the limits of performance, recovery, and discipline. But what stood out to me isn't just how hard he trains. It's how clearly he understands that real strength isn't just physical. It's mental. It's behavioral. And it's built through the small decisions we make every day.Kris didn't come into this world through a perfect path.He found training through injury, through losing his identity, and through having to rebuild himself from the ground up.And that's really what this conversation is about. Not optimization for the sake of looking better. But using discipline as a way to stabilize your life.In this episode, we cover:Why doing hard things first thing in the morning changes your entire dayThe difference between physical strength and mental capacityHow community—not just programming—is what actually drives long-term changeWhy most people struggle to change even when they want toThe role of identity in building (or breaking) consistencyHow nutrition, sleep, and environment shape your ability to performThe balance between intensity and recoveryAnd what it really means to be “harder to kill”A bigger takeawayA lot of people are chasing performance, success, or some version of “better.”But if your system—your sleep, your stress, your habits—isn't aligned…Everything feels harder than it should.Kris has a very direct way of saying it:Do the hard things first.Build resilience. And stop negotiating with yourself.CONNECTFollow & Connect with Gabby ReeceWebsite: gabriellereece.comInstagram: @gabbyreecePodcast: The Gabby Reece ShowFollow & Connect with Kris GethinWebsite: krisgethin.comInstagram: @krisgethinPrograms & Coaching: Available through his website and training platformsSupplements: Unmatched SuppsEpisode Sponsors:Get 15% off OneSkin with the code GABBYREECE at https://www.oneskin.co/GABBYREECE #oneskinpodSupport your cells and how you age with Mitopure® Gummies from Timeline. Today, I'm excited to welcome Michael Long to the podcast. Michael is a physicist-turned-writer and the co-author of the international bestseller The Molecule of More. His work explores one of the most powerful forces shaping our lives: the brain chemical dopamine — and how it influences motivation, ambition, and our constant drive for "more." Michael is also the author of Taming the Molecule of More: A Step-by-Step Guide to Making Dopamine Work for You. Over the course of his career, he has written speeches for members of Congress, presidential candidates, Fortune 10 CEOs, while also teaching at Georgetown University and producing award-winning screenplays. In our conversation, Michael explains why dopamine isn't actually the chemical that makes us happy, it's the chemical that makes us want more. More trips, more gadgets, more fun stuff on our phones. We discuss how this pursuit of "more" drives innovation and progress, but can also leave retirees feeling restless or unfulfilled if they're not careful. Michael also shares practical ways to recognize when dopamine is driving your decisions, how to create healthier habits that restore balance, and why learning to live more fully in the present moment can transform your experience of retirement. GET A FREE COPY OF MICHAEL'S BOOK, TAMING THE MOLECULE OF MORE Here's how: Step 1: Subscribe to the podcast and leave an honest rating & review on iTunes. Step 2: Text the word BOOK to 888-599-4491, and we'll send you a link to claim your free copy! In this podcast interview, you'll learn: Why dopamine isn't the "happiness chemical" — it's the chemical that drives our desire for more. How dopamine helped humans survive in a world of scarcity and danger. Why modern technology and social media can hijack your dopamine system. How retirees can redirect dopamine toward curiosity, purpose, and meaningful goals. The difference between dopamine (future-focused) and "here-and-now" brain chemicals. Simple habits that help reduce impulsive dopamine-driven decisions. Why learning to pause and appreciate the present moment can dramatically improve life satisfaction in retirement. “Send Coach John a message”This podcast from John O'Leary (@JOLearyInspires)- (Episode 870) This is an incredible episode that made a big impact on me while I was mowing my front lawn yesterday. John has a conversation with Piera Gelardi and here is a bit from the show notes: “Today, Piera shares how growing up in a small town in Maine shaped her sense of wonder, how building a global brand led to unexpected self-doubt and burnout, and how reclaiming play became her path back to creativity, connection, and joy. She explains practical ways to integrate playfulness into our daily lives and how small moments can shift perspectives, deepen connection, and bring more curiosity, wonder, and joy into everyday life.” As I was listening to this, there were many thoughts running through my head as to why I needed to connect to this connection of joy, wonder, happiness, authenticity, and to continue trying to be the best version of myself. One of the biggest impacts this made with me was connected to something from my previous episode, #1846 - “The Magic You're Looking For” and the part where my former student Ashley posted a picture from our Principles of Leadership class. It got me remembering that really, I don't think there was ever a day in my teaching career, where I did NOT laugh at school! Mostly from my students, but my coworkers too! How much I missed this truth in my life today being retired. It's something that I seek every day, and usually find it - joy, gratitude & laughing. What an important part of life! It's a must! Thanks for listening. Please take a few moments to subscribe & share this with someone, also leave a 5 Star rating on Apple Podcasts and ITunes or other services where you find this show. “Send Coach John a message”Found a great post connected to “The Masters” (@TheMasters) - this post from Brad Stulberg (@BStulberg) where he shares a wonderful picture of golf fans watching “One of the best parts of the Masters golf tournament: the no phone rule. It's awesome to see so many people locked in and sharing an experience with full presence. As I write in The Way of Excellence: “Excellence requires intimacy—minimizing distractions and getting as close as possible to your pursuit. It is a powerful antidote to modern feelings of disconnection, dissociation, and numbness.” I have no doubt a big part of the aura at the Masters is its intimacy. This would be impossible if everyone had their phones. There's much to learn from this, and not just for golf.” I shared two posts about this on my Twitter / X account and I'll do the same on my Facebook page too - and I'll try to put them on Instagram too. The other one was from Matt Van Swol (@mattvanswol) where he shared this thought: “Say what you want about The Masters... But there is nowhere else on planet earth where you will see a photo of humans like this where not a single one of them is looking at a phone. Truly one of the most beautiful things.” As I'm typing this, I am asking for you to go use your “device” to look at people having an amazing time, when they are not using their “devices.” HA… as I'm typing this line, I had to laugh out loud as to what I'm asking you to do. I know I need to stay off my “devices”, but there are good things out there that we can connect with to help us live our best lives. Part of this for me coming up is a breakfast connection with one of my longest known & best friends, Scott. We have known each other for roughly 55 years and we had breakfast celebrating my birthday back a couple of months ago, and now it's his turn. This is one of those things that I know I need to continue to make time for because it's really what life is all about. Great lessons and reminders from sports, especially (what I feel) is the greatest sporting event around. Thanks for listening. This week's stories: *Bartonella Hides in Cat Scratches — and It Might Be Why You Feel Like Garbage A stealth bacterial infection transmitted by everyday cat scratches and flea dirt has been quietly linked to chronic fatigue, brain fog, and neurological symptoms for decades. Dave breaks down how Bartonella slips past standard testing, why it's almost never on a conventional doctor's radar, and the specific PCR protocol you need to actually find it. Sources: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/ *High Tyrosine Levels May Be Cutting Years Off Men's Lives A Mendelian randomization study of 270,000 UK Biobank participants found that elevated tyrosine is causally linked to nearly a full year of lost lifespan in men — with zero effect in women. The culprit appears to be an inflammatory oxidation pathway that men metabolize very differently. Dave examines what this means for every guy stacking L-tyrosine nootropics or eating high-protein keto. Dave covers the mechanism, who benefits most (screen workers, TBI recovery, gamers), and how to find a provider. Sources: https://altiusvision.com/chromatic-aberration/ https://altiusvision.com/science-of-altius/ https://www.westvalleyvision.com/-altius--performance-tinted-contact-lenses *Taurine Plus B Vitamins Actually Moves the Needle on Motivation A randomized crossover trial found that a daily stack of taurine, B6, folate, and B12 sustained effort-reward motivation and cut cognitive lapses significantly compared to placebo — and the mechanism runs through glutathione production in brain astrocytes. Dave breaks down why this combo works when either ingredient alone doesn't. Dave makes the case for building a daily scent ritual. Sources: https://time.com/ https://www.southtabor.com/healthy-living-tip-stop-and-smell-the-flowers/ This episode is designed for biohackers, longevity seekers, and high-performance listeners who want mechanism-level clarity on infection-driven cognitive decline, amino acid optimization, sensory performance, and evidence-based supplementation. Host Dave Asprey connects emerging clinical research, Mendelian randomization data, and real-world protocols into actionable frameworks for extending healthspan and sharpening performance. New episodes every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. Today's guest is Dr. Ben Merkle! Dr. Merkle is the President of New Saint Andrew's College. He has served as a minister at Christ Church, Moscow and also a part-time campus minister with Collegiate Reformed Fellowship, a campus ministry of Christ Church. Dr. Merkle is the author of The White Horse King: The Life of Alfred the Great. Mystie and Brandy decided they need to ask Dr. Merkle whether New Saint Andrew's College is hard on purpose and whether that counterintuitively provides a lot of motivation for young men (and develops initiative). You're going to love this conversation! *** The Sistership's annual Spring Training Sessions are coming up soon, which means now is the time to upgrade your membership from the free level to the Sophie level. This year's coach is none other than John Muir Laws who will be talking with us about all things nature study and nature journalling. It's going to be amazing.
